The Coachella Valley Firebirds' Jacob Melanson looks like a hockey player straight out of central casting He has a line of horizontal stitches across his right ear that looks like the top half is sewn onto the bottom half His nose is twice its normal size and there are bruises to go along with it but it's kind of hard to tell where they stop and start after scoring the game-winning goal in a season-saving win for the Firebirds He told the media after the game that it was the first time he'd scored an overtime goal in juniors or pro hockey set up by a gritty defensive play from original Firebird Luke Henman allowed the team to escape with a win on a night when a loss would've been devastating Not just in the way blowing a three-goal lead hurts more than a garden-variety loss but also in the amount of history the Firebirds would've had to overcome to keep their playoffs going Firebirds survive! Coachella Valley wins again in overtime after fumbling three-goal lead I asked Jason Chaimovitch at the AHL communications department for some statistics about digging out of an 0-2 hole Only 13 teams in the long history of the AHL have won a five-game playoff series after losing the first two games Only three of those teams did so after losing the first two at home and none of those three had to win three road games to do it the Firebirds would've had to do something no team in the history of the AHL He did score that goal and those ominous statistics are moot because the Firebirds aren't in an 0-2 hole They are tied 1-1 and heading to Abbotsford for Game 3 on Wednesday with a skip in their skate And winning playoff series is a bit of a tradition in these parts The Firebirds have played in 10 playoff series in two-plus seasons and won eight of them Does the fact that the Firebirds fans and franchise have only known deep playoff runs add any pressure to this year's group but there's a clear precedent that has been set here we have a lot of photos around the locker room and around this building kind of just shows what we've done here and we want to do," Olofsson said "And that's kind of the standard we have is to be playing playoff hockey here and scoring goals at home there's nothing better here with our crowd said for a guy like him who just joined the team this year those lofty expectations and the history of success is not lost on him it's great to see what these guys have done the past two years but I think we have a great team and I'm excited for this playoff run." said the postseason itself brings with it some pressure but he doesn't feel like the ghosts of playoff runs past are haunting this year's team we've had pretty good success here the last two years but there's pressure everywhere when you're in the playoffs," Winterton said we kind of live for pressure and live for these moments so I'd say there's pressure no matter what in the playoffs So these Firebirds aren't burdened by expectations but motivated by them And Firebirds fans understand that this year's team is not composed in the same way the veteran-heavy teams of the first two seasons were And I think Firebirds fans understand that they've been spoiled by the past two seasons And Firebirds fans understand that Abbotsford finished with the better record and is the favorite in this series But that doesn't mean a second-round exit is going to sting any less were it to happen I made eye contact with a woman wearing a Max McCormick jersey walking out after Saturday's win and she said to me "Whew And then she said what everyone was thinking "I really hope it's not the last home game of the year." it won't take a never-before-accomplished feat to make that happen all this team needs to do is win two of three games in Abbotsford The Firebirds are 2-0 already in Abbotsford this year and have a better road record than they do home record this season Until proven otherwise — and they've tried to prove it twice already these playoffs by blowing three-goal leads — winning playoff games is simply part of this team's DNA And that's a good enough reason to believe that the woman in the McCormick jersey will get to see her Firebirds at Acrisure Arena again this year Shad Powers is a columnist for The Desert Sun ShareSaveCommentBusinessHollywood & EntertainmentLady Gaga’s Early Career Singles Soar To New Peaks Post-CoachellaByHugh McIntyre Forbes contributors publish independent expert analyses and insights with a focus on the global charts.Follow AuthorMay 05 09:15am EDTShareSaveCommentAfter Coachella Lady Gaga sees “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance” rise to new global highs More “Judas” debuts and “Shallow” returns to the charts CALIFORNIA - She also shared a series of photos on her own account around the same time Landon and Skyla have one big thing in common – they both have famous parents Landon and Skyla shared photos of a tattoo of a new initiative to provide Coachella Valley farmworkers with a wide range of services entrepreneurship classes and unemployment assistance TODEC Legal Center held an inaugural event Thursday for a "farmworker justice center" that the nonprofit describes as the first of its kind in the Coachella Valley or the Inland Empire The center will occupy half of TODEC’s existing office in downtown Coachella with the organization adding eight new staff members to offer support in the office and out in the fields State and local officials attended the event including California Labor Commissioner Lilia García-Brower and highlighted the center’s importance as both a resources hub and a safe hangout spot TODEC Executive Director Luz Gallegos told The Desert Sun that the center has already been open for a few weeks because the late spring typically sees an uptick in unemployment among valley farmworkers after the harvest season for some crops “There's places that charge them to access (unemployment benefits) because they don't have access to tech or they don't understand so here they can come in (for free),” Gallegos said While the center has long helped with legal aid and applications for healthcare programs Gallegos said the additional staff will be able to better support workers who come in with its wraparound services aiming to address the “layers of needs.” Gallegos emphasized the importance of mental health awareness telling the story of an unnamed man who worked more than 20 years as a valley farmworker After falling behind on his bills during the COVID-19 pandemic and amid fears of deportation “He’s not the first nor will he be the last,” Gallegos told the crowd in Spanish Gallegos told The Desert Sun after the event that she wanted to discuss the story (with the family’s permission) to open a conversation about depression among men working in the fields or we can connect you to resources,’ because we don't want to see no more deaths,” Gallegos said A couple farmworkers also spoke during the event with one man discussing the help he got from a TODEC worker to obtain a work permit after getting a DUI charge on his record “Many people say they don’t know where to get help with paperwork or other things but here there’s help with everything,” she said in Spanish assured the crowd that the “laws of California have not changed” and encouraged people to contact her office if they know of people who’ve faced unfair treatment “My family didn’t know its rights until I entered in the labor movements then could return to my family and help them understand how the government works,” García-Brower said in Spanish “It doesn’t have to be a question of chance.” “We must have a strong government that assures that each worker knows their rights,” she added Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez also spoke telling the crowd that farmworkers have “friends here in the city of Coachella” despite a broader political climate that he described as racist The center will offer the following forms of assistance to farmworkers: Gallegos said the community is particularly excited about the entrepreneurship program which she said will revive a program the nonprofit ran in the 1990s when some laborers in the region lost their jobs after the North American Free Trade Agreement was signed “We wanted to have this the center as a justice center for any justice but housing or different situations that may arise for the workers,” Gallegos said the farmworkers justice center is scheduled to be open from 9 a.m Tom Coulter is a reporter for The On social media the band have also been sharing messages of support they have received. In her first-ever Coachella appearance, Jennie Kim wore one of the most stand-out looks of the festival in a bright red Western ensemble Keeping with the overwhelming popularity of statement belts in the past year or so Jennie wore three over a pair of croc-embossed micro shorts Equally on trend with her ripped fishnet tights embellished bikini top and wide fabric belt was Tyla who drew inspiration from the grungier side of Coachellas past and present.  Menswear, ever-reminiscent of James Charles’ 2019 backless chaps, leaned heavily into Western fashion. Canadian tuxedos and belts with intricate buckles were the more daring outfits worn, almost always topped off with a cowboy hat. Travis Scott, in one of my favorite looks of Coachella 2025 wore a studded outfit custom-made by Chrome Hearts men’s fashion didn’t make too much of a statement this year sticking closely to the comfort of beachy and Western fashion as is already quite popular in the industry.  Coachella’s most noticeable trend this year was the drastically widening gap between general admission and VIP attendees — between the normal people and the elites While one side of my For You page spent their weekends in villas sponsored by fast-fashion labels (Guess Revolve Festival and Fashion Nova were the most common) thousands of non-influencers braved intense heat overpriced food and extreme exhaustion while camping out of the trunks of their cars Founded in 1999 as a relaxed and affordable alternative to festivals like Woodstock the Coachella of today is a far cry from the original intent of its creators It’s become practically impossible to ignore the blatant class divides so casually woven into a festival whose primary purpose has devolved into the promotion of mass consumerism Coachella is the same cultural hub it's always been a music festival in the desert lands of California managed to capture a snapshot of not just the trends we wear but the values we monetize and the disparities so deep amongst us that we’ve started to scroll past them without blinking Charlotte Feehan is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences a day that commemorates Mexico’s victory over the French army in 1862 It’s also a day that celebrates Mexican food Several Latino-owned businesses say they see an uptick in customers today it will get crazy in a few more hours.," said Miguel Molina a Co-owner of Casa Luna Mexican & Seafood restaurant Everybody wants to make a reservation because they know it's going to be busy tonight.” Jose Delatorre says they look forward to the rush every year because they get to introduce people to authentic Mexican flavors made by recipes that have been passed along through generations "But we also have some recipes from Puebla We have the Chile Nogara is one of our signatures items." Although Cinco de Mayo is an isn’t traditionally celebrated widely across Mexico many owners say they’re happy to use the day to educate customers on Mexican culture and traditions we must take that upon ourselves to have the opportunity to show Americans that Mexico has a lot of great things," said Molina an all-female equestrian group also spent the morning with seniors at the Caleo Bay Memory Care and Assisted Living Center in La Quinta The group treated seniors to special traditional Mexican dances like Foclorico They also performed a synchronized equestrian routine while also providing some relief and company to folks living at the home. And over in Coachella hosted a Cinco de Mayo party and giveaway for its customers "Today we’re giving out free tacos to the first 200 people," said Gladys and a cleaning basket.” In addition to the free tacos was drinks Absolute Dollar is also having a fundraiser in partnership with the Coachella Valley Youth Soccer Academy on May 18th The entire store will be 10% off and they will be raffling off a 55 inch TV to customers All of the proceeds will go to a local food bank All of the business owners that News Channel Three spoke with say they are proud represent the Latino community and that they get to share it by celebrating Cinco de Mayo with the Coachella Valley "Cinco de Mayo is for everybody," said Molina It gives them the opportunity to learn a little bit more of what Mexico is all about Several Cinco de Mayo celebrations are taking place across the Coachella Valley on Monday Here are some of the events that are happening: News Channel 3's Tori King will be speaking with businesses about how Cinco De Mayo can bring an economic boost to Latino owned businesses Tori King joined KESQ News Channel 3 as a reporter and anchor in October 2023. the festival spotlighted a shift in artist trends and groundbreaking performances that entranced people around the world One of the most captivating trends of Coachella was the increase of international artists ENHYPEN and XG brought K-pop to the stage with amazing choreography and stage presence This trend reflects the influence of non-Western music on the global stage Coachella’s inclusion of these artists not only broadens their horizons but also pushes against the West-centric norms in the music industry This year’s lineup took genre fusion to a whole new level She included a chess-themed dance battle in her performance of “Poker Face” and an opera twist on “Bad Romance.” This showcased her ability to incorporate theatrical elements in her mainstream hits rock and acoustic elements in his performance “White Iverson” – which draws from hip-hop and R&B stylings – to his latest country-pop hit “I Had Some Help” featuring Morgan Wallen Post Malone’s performance highlighted how the combination of different genres can create new experiences for listeners and keep the music industry going Charli XCX brought hyper-pop energy to the stage blending electronic beats with pop melodies She started off with “365” with glitchy visuals in the background to accompany the song’s fusion between bedroom-pop and hyper-pop sound Her stage design consisted of neon lighting and fast-paced digital projections The lighting and visuals matched Charli XCX’s vibe and music making for a truly immersive experience for her audience One standout moment was when she featured Troye Sivan for her remix of “Talk Talk.” His smooth vocals blended well with her hyper-pop style Lorde then appeared on stage for a collaborative rendition of “Girl So Confusing,” a track that had been remixed specifically for Coachella 2025 Billie Eilish then made an entrance for “Guess,” a song that earned a Grammy nomination in 2024 This duet had visuals flashing the word “GUESS” behind them which added to the song’s provocative nature.  brought adrenaline to their performance with their mix of drum and bass They started with “BACKBONE,” setting the tone with the song’s deep basslines The duo then transitioned into “Gunfinger,” a track that infuses the classic reggae sound with their signature drum and bass rhythms I was impressed with their ability to mix genres keeping the energy levels high in the audience newcomers like Benson Boone and Keshi brought raw talent to Coachella I think this is important as it reminds people that the festival is also a launchpad for rising stars Their performances also serve as a reminder that Coachella is a place for discovery this year’s festival was committed to innovation that extended beyond music Coachella has historically been known for its successful stage productions I believe there was more emphasis on stage production than in previous festivals.  Travis Scott’s opening act featured over 80 crew members creating a performance that was as much about visual storytelling as it was about music The emphasis on stagecraft at Coachella highlights how the festival has become a cultural phenomenon It has shaped trends in live entertainment and immersive experiences that go beyond just a music festival These trends push artists to think beyond their music and also consider the visual experience they create for their audiences Coachella 2025 was a celebration of artistic evolution and cultural fusion It is not only keeping up with the music industry but also setting the standards for what is to come Are you group performed on both weekends of the California festival their performances included heavy political messaging about the conflict in Gaza While Coachella organizers attempted to censor the band after the first weekend by removing their set from the festival's livestream this only increased interest in the performance Here's everything you need to know about the band and what's happened since their Coachella performance The band's "shows and tracks flip between satirical performance art and rampageous raves," reads their Spotify biography "Kneecap," won the BAFTA for outstanding debut recognizing the work of first-time director Rich Peppiatt and DJ Próvaí played versions of themselves alongside Michael Fassbender which is Irish for "rights," on a bus stop and he spent a night in police custody waiting for a Gaeilge-English translator as he refused to speak in English to the police officers on duty which regularly promotes Irish republicanism and opposition to British rule in Northern Ireland The group filed a discrimination lawsuit against the UK government While performing in Australia in March, the band brought onstage the head of a statue of George V which had been removed from a park in Victoria during a series of protests against colonial monuments in 2024 the trio led the audience in a chant about the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher which was censored from the livestream on the festival's official YouTube page saying it was "not the only thing that was cut," as they also included messaging regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict in their set At the end of their show during the second weekend of Coachella on April 18 three messages appeared on the screens behind the band "Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people," the projected messages read "It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes Some uncensored messaging to Coachella 🤝🇵🇸 pic.twitter.com/WbHZBrCZl5 the band led the audience in chants of "Free Kneecap was not the only artist at Coachella who shared political messaging about the war in Gaza at the festival Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong altered the lyrics of "Jesus of Suburbia" and sang "Runnin' away from pain like the kids from Palestine (the original line is: "Runnin' away from pain when you've been victimized") displayed the Palestinian flag during their sets according to video footage taken by attendees One prominent industry figure who spoke out against Kneecap was Sharon Osbourne the wife and manager of Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne which headlined the Saturday evening of the festival on both weekends stating that their inclusion of pro-Palestinian sentiments "would have been more appropriate at their own concert stating that the band "took their performance to a different level by incorporating aggressive political statements." She asked her followers to join in her "advocating for the revocation of Kneecap's work visa." it was reported that the Metropolitan Police in the UK were assessing a video taken at a Kneecap concert in London in November 2024 The BBC reported that the footage appeared to show a member of the group shouting "up Hamas up Hezbollah" while draped in a Hezbollah flag The two militant groups are considered terrorist organizations by the UK, and expressing support for either is forbidden under the Terrorism Act 2000 The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that it had been made aware of the video and had been "referred to the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit for assessment and to determine whether any further police investigation may be required." Chara, whose real name is Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, told Rolling Stone in an email that the band has spoken about Palestinian conflict "at every single gig since the band's formation." "We believe we have an obligation to use our platform when we can to raise the issue of Palestine," he said in the statement published on April 23 "and it was important for us to speak out at Coachella as the USA is the main funder and supplier of weapons to Israel as they commit genocide in Gaza." He added that the band wasn't aware that their performance on the first weekend of Coachella had been cut short on Coachella's YouTube livestream until the next day In response to Osbourne's call to have their visas revoked he said her "rant has so many holes in it that it hardly warrants a reply but she should listen to 'War Pigs' that was written by Black Sabbath." In a social media post on April 25 Kneecap described the response to their Coachella set as a "coordinated smear campaign." The Hollywood Reporter said on April 24 that Independent Artist Group no longer represents the band in the US Primary Talent International represents the band outside the US parted ways with Kneecap between the first and second Coachella weekends The booking agency previously sponsored the trio's US work visas individuals from overseas cannot work in the US The band's website states that they are scheduled to begin a US tour on October 1 which consists of 21 dates and is mostly sold out Representatives for Kneecap did not respond to a request for comment sent from Business Insider regarding the split from IAG and the status of their upcoming US shows Heavenly Recordings, the band's record label, shared on social media on Wednesday an artist statement in response to efforts from the UK government to have the band removed from several summer festivals. Titled "We stand for freedom of expression," the statement reads in part: "The question of agreeing with Kneecap's political viewers is irrelevant: it is in the key interests of every artist that all creative expression be protected in a society that values culture." The statement was initially cosigned by 40 major musicians Scheduled appearances at two German festivals in June were axed shortly after the band's second Coachella appearance, BBC reported A replacement gig that same day in the local area was announced by the band shortly after However, by Thursday, this concert had also been canceled. Organizers said they had canceled the show after taking "advice from relevant authorities and agencies." Britain's Metropolitan police said it was investigating a video that appeared to show a member of the band calling on fans to "kill" their local representative in parliament at a 2023 concert Kneecap said in a statement posted earlier in the week that they rejected "any suggestion that we would seek to incite violence against any MP or individual On Thursday, the nonprofit organization Stop Antisemitism tagged the official American Airlines account in an X post requesting that it remove the band's 2024 biopic from its in-flight entertainment library The following day, the account gave an update that said the airline had removed the movie effective immediately American Airlines confirmed this in a response that read: "We've heard from our Onboard Entertainment team, and can confirm the show has been removed from our movie." A representative for American Airlines did not respond to a request for comment on the matter sent by Business Insider outside regular work hours. Afrojack's favorite moment from the festival:"The two highlights for me were playing 'Take Over Control' at the Heineken House each weekend The fans and the song went off like it was 2012 I also loved playing a surprise back-to-back with Francis Mercier at Zenyara weekend 2."What Afrojack hopes audiences take away:Live life Afrojack's favorite performance at Coachella?Green Day blew me away Highest level of performance and production in my opinion If Afrojack could see anyone perform at Coachella, he said, "Michael Jackson." When I heard their third studio album, 22:22 I knew we were in for a treat to witness this performance on one of Coachella's most dynamic stages Polo & Pan's favorite moment from the festival:Paul: "I really enjoyed playing our new song 'Summer Is Almost Over' from our last album it's been very special to play it here at Coachella."Alex: "We noticed and got feedback from our team that our audience on both weekends was mostly phone-free We're so glad about it."What Polo & Pan hope audiences take away:"We hope they enjoyed the show and had a lot of fun We tirelessly worked on this show with Coachella in mind; there's always a balance to find and the different performances."Polo & Pan's favorite performance at Coachella:"The Marias were amazing and the scenography here was super elegant." I needed extra ashwagandha in my coffee that morning to deal with the claustrophobia of Sahara's overcrowded audience "My favorite moments? I’m so sorry, I can’t choose just one! From Weekend 1, stepping out on stage, seeing the production and the full Sahara tent for the first time was such an incredible feeling and I was shaking like a leaf! Then on Saturday, our Blood Oath B2B moment under the full moon with all the girls was so special I just really loved that set and I felt like it went off without a hitch really long time I've gotten to go to a music festival and actually enjoy the whole music festival I was able to see a bunch of different acts spend time with friends and dance in front of the speakers for once instead of being behind them It’s so hard to choose one highlight when the whole thing felt like a highlight What Sara hopes audiences take away from her performance: I really am moving into this new era of being an artist and it's so important for me to create these special memorable experiences for the people who attend my shows working on building something where we thought about every possible point of the experience I want people to expect more of that creativity from me and I hope I continue to surprise and delight It is my greatest joy and honor to be lucky enough to share these moments with my audiences Sara's favorite performance at Coachella:  It was so cool to watch her do her thing on that stage The crowd loved it and it felt like such a cultural moment If Sara could see anyone perform at Coachella, she said, "For me that’s Lady Gaga and we got to see an incredible show from her It was such a beautiful set to witness  I’m so glad I got to be there It was super cool to run into Amelie Lens in the crowd and vibe with her there I was watching his set so hard that I started leaning to the side Wow."
If SAINt could see anyone perform at Coachella I couldn't fully explain what was happening on stage Judeline's favorite moment from the festival:"Lady Gaga was so special for me as I have admired her for so long my second weekend show was one of the most special shows I have ever done My Miley Cyrus cover had a really special reaction from the crowd."What Judeline hopes audiences take away:"I would love them to feel that they are seeing something special that is going to be big There's a lot of love and dreams in the work we did to prepare the show I hope people can see it."Judeline's favorite performance at Coachella:"Lady Gaga of course...mother."If Judeline could see anyone perform at Coachella "I imagine Britney Spears… or Héctor Lavoe d4vd's favorite moment from the festival:"Favorite memory would have to be not landing the backflip from Week 1 but then landing it in Week 2 It led to so many laughs and funny memes which I always love." What d4vd hopes audiences take away from his performance:"The energy and the emotion behind not just the sad songs but also 'Leave Her' where I just get lost in the beat every time."d4vd's favorite performance at Coachella:"CLAIRO!"If d4vd could see anyone perform at Coachella Eli's a valid link between the underground and mainstream of electronic music and Coachella was the perfect stage to execute his master plan Eli's favorite moment from the festival:"What a weekend this was my first time visiting Coachella — let alone performing — and it totally lived up to the hype.""Both weekends were great but my Weekend 2 performance in the Yuma was definitely my highlight It's hard to describe why Weekend 2 topped Weekend 1 but I guess doing it second time around everyone is a bit more settled in I had my whole family out with me for the first time ever in my career so having them there to share that experience with me made it all the more special."  What Eli hopes audiences take away from his performance:"I wanted to turn the Yuma into a rave and by that I mean capturing the essence and energy of a warehouse rave high energy club music that keeps you captivated and lost in the moment I hope that the people who set foot in the Yuma for my Saturday closing set walked away feeling that energy whether they knew me or my music or if it was their first time hearing my sound." Eli's favorite performance at Coachella:"Hands down Post Malone's closing set on Sunday night I don't often get the time or chance to explore festivals but for Coachella I managed to spend both weekends here taking in a lot of DJ sets and live performances she had banger after banger and really took me back to my childhood I finished the festival watching Post Malone his performance and energy really left a mark on me Other performances to note were Sam Fender a UK singer-songwriter who I love and was lucky enough to see on Saturday afternoon."If Eli could see anyone perform at Coachella and I can only imagine what a show he would bring to that Coachella Mainstage." It's one of my greatest pleasures to discover new favorites at Coachella Yulia's favorite moment from the festival:"On the second weekend I finally got the chance to see Lady Gaga's performance From the moment the lineup came out and I knew I'd be in the desert she was at the top of my list for who I wanted — and needed — to see.""I've always felt so connected to her and her Coachella performance was truly the best performance I've ever seen in my life The whole performance reminded me of theater there was so much happening — it gave me goosebumps from the second she stepped on stage there was nothing else I needed to see."What Yulia hopes audiences take away from her performance:"I always want my audience to have a lifetime experience I really try to express the energy the music gives and the incredible vibes performing gives me some really amazing feedback from people who've discovered me for the first time in the Yuma — it was such a magical moment playing Coachella is such a huge achievement for me and I wanted my happiness for this moment to be expressed in my set when people come to see you play — it's magical almost indescribable." Yulia's favorite performance at Coachella:"Outside of Lady Gaga I saw MAU P for the first time at Sahara both weekends I had the chance to meet him yesterday as well before his Do LaB secret set and he's genuinely one of the kindest people I've ever met."If Yulia could see anyone perform at Coachella I've always been the biggest fan of Sade — but I've never had the chance to see her live it would be so amazing to see her perform — I would really love it!" Kaskade was the first electronic DJ to headline Coachella in 2015 and it was a special moment because that was my first time attending the festival Kaskade's favorite moment from the festival:"Playing with Idris was absolutely my favorite moment There were times in the set where I was brought back to my earliest days not knowing what was about to come next as he and I haven't spent a lot of time together But it's that shape shifting that makes a b2b fun he kept me on my toes."What Kaskade hopes audiences take away:"The reality that we were up there feeding off what they were giving I love having the crowd be part of the performance it was a blast."Kaskade's favorite performance at Coachella:"I'm going to be straight here and say what all of us are thinking: ENHYPEN is probably not from planet Earth These guys are to boy-bands up to now what a tin can and string are to iPhones The amount of talent and stamina and tenacity it must take to participate in their production is extraordinary I'm getting with K-pop still."If Kaskade could see anyone perform at Coachella SALT LAKE CITY — Fresh off a smash appearance at Coachella pop superstar Benson Boone has announced a North American tour that will end with a stop in Salt Lake City will head to the Beehive State on October 8 with the final show of his American Heart tour at Delta Center The tour will follow the release of his American Heart album on June 20 and is set to kick off on August 22 in St According to a release on the upcoming tour was the most-streamed song in the world last year leading to his appearances at Coachella and Saturday Night Live CLICK HERE for tickets for all Boone's concerts beginning on Thursday with a fan presale followed by a public sale starting on Friday The Coachella Valley won 5-4 against the Abbotsford Canucks in a game that went to overtime The teams meet again for Game 3 on Wednesday (KESQ) Indio High School held the first-ever Coachella Valley All-Star Classic a senior-only boys and girls basketball all-star game Palm Desert head coach Adam Emmer led Team Swish to a 42-34 victory over Team Buckets which was led by Shadow Hills head coach Timothy Britton Mia Aceituno from Desert Christian Academy won the MVP of the girls' game Palm Desert head coach Justin Sobczyk led Team Hoopers to a 77-69 victory over Team Ballers which was led by Indio head coach Johnny Flores Be sure to stay with us here at News Channel 3 for continuing coverage of high school sports across the valley Corrections & Clarifications: A previous version of this story misstated the rainfall totals at Palm Springs International Airport and Cathedral Canyon The Coachella Valley saw something it hasn't seen much of lately on Sunday: rain Here's a look at how much precipitation fell across the region during the day Sunday and Here are the National Weather Service's totals for sites across the Coachella Valley and its immediate surroundings as of about 8:40 a.m National Weather Service forecaster Paul Steward said the much larger total near the Living Desert was a result of a storm cell that popped up right over the edge of the adjacent mountains around 1:30 p.m While the storm brought rain to much of Southern California the largest totals were reported in mountain areas Panorama Point received 2.56 inches while Daley Spur and the San Bernardino County Yard each saw 2.20 Will we get more rain?National Weather Service meteorologist Sebastian Westerink said the chances for significant rain in the Coachella Valley and other lower desert areas was done for the most part by Monday morning he said mountain areas could continue to see some rain and that it is possible that a shower or two could spill into areas of the valley and bring additional rain with the most likely chance for showers coming around 3 p.m Any rainfall should end by late Monday night with a sunny and dry week ahead that will see the high climb from 79 degrees on Monday at Palm Springs International Airport to about 105 degrees on Saturday Looking for some live entertainment this weekend Here are my picks for the latest can't-miss live performances in the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities More: 12 things to do in the Coachella Valley this week, May 5-11 Diana Krall is not only a trailblazing female singer/pianist she’s the only artist to debut eight albums at No She’s won two Grammy Awards and has seven multi-platinum albums Some of her prominent songs are her versions of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David song “Walk On By” made popular by Dionne Warwick her duet with Michael Bublé on Gilbert O'Sullivan’s “Alone Again (Naturally)” and the Joni Mitchell hit “A Case of You.” Krall will perform on Saturday at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa If you go: 8 p.m. Saturday, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage. Coach Derek Laxdal was also encouraged by the team's play in the latter half of the game and believes it can fuel the team moving forward so we know you have to have short-term memory and we can take the good points from that game and move forward to Saturday," Laxdal said The Firebirds received some tough injury news before the game as it was announced that playoff hero and leading-scorer Mitchell Stephens has a lower-body injury and is out indefinitely Defenseman Cale Fleury also missed this game but is listed more promisingly as day-to-day Stephens' recent scoring touch could've come in handy Thursday as the Firebirds peppered the goal late in the game to no avail "It comes back to finding ways to create more offense," Laxdal said it's dirty hockey and we have to put pucks on the net You have to hold that paint and we did a little bit of that tonight Nikke Kokko had 25 saves in net for the Firebirds but did have a costly misplay that led to the Canucks' second goal Firebirds 1-0: Back after missing the Calgary series Ryan Winterton wasted little time thrilling the crowd as he took a pretty pass from Brandon Biro and slapped it into the open net Tied 1-1: A controversial goal by the Canucks as Max Lajoie was leveled into the boards the puck came right into his vacated area and the Canucks capitalized with a goal by Jett Woo Firebirds coach Derek Laxdal was barking at the official believing it should have been a cross check penalty Canucks 2-1: Abbotsford scored again a minute later when Danila Kilmovich was the recipient of a bad decision by Nikke Kokko as his clearing attempt went right to a Canuck player who quickly dished to Kilmovich for the goal Canucks 3-1: This was the prettiest goal of the night A well-defended 2-on-2 rush to the goal saw Phillip Di Giuseppe with a gorgeous dish to Guillaume Brisebois who flicked it past Kokko 2025 at 09:49 PM · Next stop FYRE Festival 2 2025 at 10:14 PM · Coachella - much better 2025 at 03:56 PM · Great reporting indeed I would always want the undistracting and contemplative setting of a formal concert hall but if this kind of performance creates interest and new listeners then I can only applaud such orchestral evangelism I think Recomposed was an excellent choice for this concert a composition I was quite surprised to like so much when I heard it enough that I listen to my CD of it from time to time This article has been archived and is no longer accepting comments Violinist.com is made possible by.. Dancing around her grand, gothic set for almost two hours, belting out everything from classics like “Bad Romance” to new tracks like “Abracadabra,” Gaga kept her monsters roaring About 7,500 miles from the stage on which Gaga was triggering an alarming number of flashbacks to the Saturday nights of my early twenties the star had also built an opera house on a 75-inch flatscreen in my living room in Sydney where you can watch sets along with some of your favorite creators Multiview gave me a fuller Coachella experience I set up notifications for the starts of livestreams of stages I was interested in, and for individual sets through the new Coachella Livestream app I stayed up far too late the night before kickoff and slept through much of what I had scheduled to see Fortunately, YouTube’s multiview feature* helped get me back on track turned to one of several streams showcasing four stages simultaneously It felt like walking onto the festival grounds hearing flickers of sound from different stages and following the siren call of whichever beckons I spent a little time with Tyla and Djo before opening the Main Stage livestream for Benson Boone's set I’d learned that Boone is known for flipping on stage I tapped the shopping icon just above the progress bar and checked out Missy’s merch with a desert-appropriate beverage in hand and my partner by my side No prep needed for this set (I’ve been gaga for Gaga for years) We cranked the volume and gasped and cheered as the “Mayhem” unfolded What a thrill to have Mother Monster in my living room—and to experience it live along with thousands of people in a California valley and millions more Little Monsters around the world time to countdown to this weekend's livestreams Watch Coachella’s second weekend live on the festival’s official YouTube channel starting Friday Join our newsletter to receive the latest news Your information will be used in accordance with Google's privacy policy May 15 at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino in Rancho Mirage Kim Jagd is one of the founding members/players and we won a gold medal at the Pasadena Senior games together about 10 years ago The Scorpions have games planned in Los Angeles Denver and Kansas City to name a few locations There are a few new indoor pickleball opportunities in the Coachella Valley is a great venue and offers three indoor courts for social play Tuesdays and Thursdays I will be running Saturday drill classes in the morning from 7:30 to 9 a.m for beginners and advanced beginners and 9-10:30 a.m Register with the Salvation Army directly for round robin tournaments I will be running advanced drill and play classes on Saturdays once per month at 10:30 a.m I will also be running indoor round robin events on Saturdays and/or Sundays at the Salvation Army indoor courts The first indoor round robin is May 18 at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park Gym.  Email Mary  at mgbarsaleau@gmail.com for more information Coach Mary's Tip of the WeekThese week's top focuses on topspin dinks Zane Navratil points out that the game has changed ** Be sure to watch the hints in the video about when and how to execute topspin dinks Callie Smith shares insight into topspin roll volley ** Follow-through with your paddle to your opposite shoulder Finally, Callie Smith shares insight into topspin forehand speed ups The trajectory is more important – with the ball going low with topspin This is the most wide-ranging Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in recent years The only real consistent element to the two weekends was the notion that Flavor Flav would show up during someone's set to say "Flay-vor Flav!" with some iconic musical performances mixed in Here are 10 moments that added brushstrokes to the Picasso painting that was Coachella 2025 There's no doubt that Lady Gaga's set will go down in festival lore as one of the greatest of all time Gaga turned the Coachella Stage into her own personal horrifying Watching everything she did in two hours without missing a step It was a nice redemption to see a full-scale glimpse into her creative mind after her 2017 headlining set was a bit watered down as she only had two months to prepare for it as a late fill-in for Beyoncé a whopping 76% said Lady Gaga is the new queen to 24% for Beyoncé but just the fact that we have to ask the question is evidence enough to show how epic Gaga's headlining set was Bernie Sanders drops in for a little (political) heart-to-heartAs people cruised around the grounds after Charli XCX's set on the first Saturday around 8:15 p.m they probably thought to themselves "somebody get Clairo a lozenge." That's because the voice coming from that stage was not the 26-year-old female singer but instead 83-year-old senator Bernie Sanders He spoke for nearly four minutes to the crowd of young attendees urging them to become more politically attentive particularly to the issues that affect their lives It was one of the most out-of-nowhere Coachella moments we can think of in recent years We try to predict what special guests will perform with the scheduled artists let's just say no one had Sanders on their radar with fireworks accentuating certain beats that had the crowd jumping singing in unison and even contributing as Armstrong brought fans out of the crowd to sing and play the guitar both weekends They snuck in a few political jabs with some reimagining of some of their lyrics but mostly focused on the rockin' and not the politickin' More: Coachella 2025: Here's the complete setlist for Green Day's Weekend 2 performance Cynthia Erivo drops in for a 'Wicked' surprise with LA PhilYou know how the tumblers in a slot machine sort of Now imagine a big Coachella slot machine where the first slot is an artist the second slot is a song and the third slot is a backing band Let's pull the lever and see what random moment we can come up with It was surprising (though our Features Editor Niki Kottmann predicted Erivo would show up in some capacity days before) The Weekend 2 crowd got a treat for sure as Erivo belted her way through the song as the sun went down It may have been the best singular moment of the fest Charli XCX brings out the holy trinity of special guestsAs the Coachella team editor I spend a lot of the festival in the press tent but both Saturdays I specifically scheduled my day around Charli XCX's set whose star rose even higher last year with the release of her viral album "Brat," has better stage presence than most of the performers I've ever seen and she has that unique ability to get an entire field of people screaming and jumping (in a good way) while singing along to every chorus Those screams got louder and jumps got even higher during the Weekend 1 set in particular when she brought out buddy Troye Sivan for "Talk so confusing"; and finally Billie Eilish for their bop "Guess." I'm not sure I've ever screamed louder for any other special guests .. that is until the same exact set during Weekend 2 when the screen flashed to "SNL" star Bowen Yang and his bff/business partner Matt Rogers in the front row during "Apple" so Yang could perform the iconic "Apple" dance "Las Culturistas," is my all-time favorite and I still haven't fully recovered from the high of seeing them onscreen during one of my favorite sets of the four Coachella fests I've attended It’s hard to comprehend what it must be like to perform at Coachella when the artists who we’re paying to see share that they too are just barely wrapping their heads around the experience whose star has risen thanks to his hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” appeared to get briefly emotional during his Coachella Weekend 2 set he’d wished he could play at Coachella and now His voice trembled as he thanked the crowd for changing his life stepping away briefly from the microphone as he quickly swiped at his eyes with one hand “My journey up here was not easy,” he said “There’s multiple times where I thought about giving up or people told me I should go home or something like that and I stayed to it backup dancers and vocalists  — the latter especially notable for someone who is no newbie to massive fame and yet took a moment to give recognition to the people all involved in making her set what it was Coachella newcomer Benson Boone had one of the best sets of the first weekend and one of the biggest moments of the festival came when Brian May joined him onstage to play the Queen hit "Bohemian Rhapsody." It was When the Coachella 2025 set times dropped on April 5 fans had to look closely to notice that each Saturday of the festival a different band not originally on the lineup had been slid into a 3 p.m We're happy to report that both Weezer and Ed Sheeran rocked their respective semi-surprise sets reminding us why they honestly should have been on a much larger stage but why seeing them in a more intimate part of the venue made the experience all the more special The band still rocked out, playing 12 songs in 45 minutes. The setlist included many of Weezer's biggest hits and also included a rare cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman." The crowd went particularly wild for that gem wore his heart on his sleeve and displayed sheer talent during his hour-long show Weekend 2 reminding us that he's the real deal and part of the "A Team" of musicians working today and a looping station to create the beat of each song It was impressive to see him create each part and know exactly when each section needed to come in making the lead-up to the chorus so much sweeter felt like the perfect balance of old and new While we got to see rising stars like Benson Boone skyrocket even further into fame during their Coachella debuts we also got to watch artists who've been around the block get their flowers — and hopefully expand their reach to a new generation high-intensity show both Saturdays left a mark on a festival that has steered away from its rock roots for the past decade or so but is slowly starting to book acts that let that rock heritage live on (even if some of the frontmen are low-key conspiracy theorists cough Glenn Danzig cough) Even newer artists like Megan Thee Stallion got in on the multigenerational fun by bringing out iconic hip-hop star Queen Latifah to sing Megan's "Plan B" and Latifah's own Grammy Award-winning song “U.N.I.T.Y.” Meg gave the Queen her moment offering the best of both worlds as the crowd (and YouTube livestream) went crazy The operator of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival might feel some "goosebumps" because it was fined $20,000 by the City of Indio for going past curfew during Weekend 1 A 2013 city permit outlining the conditions under which Goldenvoice can hold the festival states that all performances must conclude by 1 a.m on Friday and Saturday and midnight on Sunday The agreement states that Goldenvoice will be fined $20,000 each time a performance goes past curfew plus $1,000 a minute starting at the sixth minute after curfew but he wrapped up his performance well before the cut off time The City of Indio said in a statement that was the only fine issued across all three music festival weekends which included Coachella and the Stagecoach country music festival The weather on Saturday during Weekend 2 of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival couldn't have been better with 80-degree temperatures during the day and a gentle breeze Since Saturday is often the busiest day with the most highlights it was off to a great start with Ed Sheeran making his Coachella debut and the Weekend 2 crowd anticipating sets by Charli XCX THE HIGHSEd Sheeran's performance drew thousands of fans to the Mojave tentEd Sheeran's Coachella debut was announced as a last-minute surprise addition for Weekend 2 shortly before the festivals began and the British singer-songwriter didn't disappoint Thousands of people packed into the Mojave tent and its surrounding areas before Sheeran took the stage to hear him perform songs such as "Shivers," "Photographs," and "Don't" with the Blackstreet song "No Diggity" blended in Read the full review: Ed Sheeran shows sheer talent, authenticity during Saturday set Even though the LA Phil had the same guests from Weekend 1 such as Icelandic singer Laufey and Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso the orchestra brought new guests for Weekend 2 Already announced special guest Natasha Bedingfield who sang "Unwritten," former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on “The Sky is a Neighborhood” and "Everlong," and a spectacular ending by Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo who sang "Brick by Brick" and a cover of Prince's "Purple Rain." After spending five days in the media tent next to the "Cactus Jack" installation created by rapper Travis Scott I have begun to view the exposed scaffolding If Scott was aiming for a "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" or other post-apocalyptic theme it could have been executed more effectively with enhanced immersive features and better aesthetics As the winds settle into a gentle breeze and temperatures cool down this weekend the grass is starting to wither and is already dead in many places at the Empire Polo Club and allergens are becoming more prevalent at the festival more festivalgoers are wearing masks this weekend and the situation will likely worsen for Stagecoach next weekend pack your Claritin and any other items you may need to alleviate allergy-related discomfort Related: California's drought outlook will lead to more dust storms, poor air quality, study finds Politicians don't even want to come back for Weekend 2One downside of Weekend 2 is the overall lack of special guests Many of the sets from last weekend have less but most have none at all in Clairo's case Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders didn't return to introduce her tens of thousands of people flock to the heart of the Coachella Valley to camp dance and let loose at the music festival by that same name The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival features hundreds of performers on some half a dozen stages, spread out across two consecutive three-day weekends. This year, performances by the likes of Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Post Malone, Benson Boone and even an appearance by Sen. Bernie Sanders Coachella the festival does not actually take place in Coachella the city which is located in Southern California's Colorado Desert and is also home to cities like Palm Springs and Indian Wells "I think a lot of people who come to this area from other places aren't really sure what's what, and I don't think they really care," says Jeff Crider, a freelance writer and historian who has written a book about the Coachella Valley "I think they just come and want to have a good time." The Coachella Valley's two primary industries have rich histories that intertwine in fascinating ways The Coachella Valley is synonymous with wealth and celebrity, given its long list of famous visitors and winter residents, including many former U.S. presidents and Hollywood stars. But the region — which is also known for its agricultural production, particularly dates — is also home to a large population of farmworkers the rich and famous have winter homes here we have some of the most famous entertainment events in the world taking place here," Crider says "But the majority of the people who live and work out here year round are not rich and famous Coachella itself was a product of the country's railroad system — and a typo As the City of Coachella's website explains the Southern Pacific Railroad laid the first tracks throughout the valley in 1876 linking it to a growing network of railways across California "It was literally just like an offramp from the railroad," Crider explains A railroad employee named Jason Rector was tasked with clearing the trees in that area Rector is credited with becoming the town's first permanent resident and "unofficial mayor" for the rest of his life during the process of laying out the townsite in 1901 Rector proposed "Conchilla," which means "little shell" in Spanish and references the fossils that were found in the area designed a prospectus that would announce the opening of the new town But the product they got back from the printer misspelled "Conchilla" as "Coachella." Rather than delay the announcement the founders decided to roll with the name — which the valley itself went on to adopt even though 'Coachella' itself does not mean anything other than the place that we know as Coachella." sunny climate and fertile soil began to attract both farmers and celebrities Early growers realized their crops could be ready to harvest long before other regions, and started planting dates and other types of produce to sell without competition. It has an important place in the labor movement too: The first significant farm labor strike — against table grape growers — took place in the Coachella Valley in 1965, led in part by Cesar Chavez grand hotels like Palm Springs' El Mirador began drawing high-profile visitors from Los Angeles thanks to the interstate and air conditioning Coachella Valley was a prominent venue for golf tennis and other forms of entertainment long before the music festival came on the scene Crider says it's been "an escape for the elite literally for a century" — and the Coachella festival has only made the area more famous since then when you had the photos of the Hollywood stars lounging by the swimming pool that made this place famous 100 years ago today what makes this place famous is having pictures of the latest celebrities and others who are at Coachella right now," Crider adds but they're making the whole valley famous." The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival made its debut in early October 1999 with headliners including Beck and Rage Against the Machine and tickets costing $50 per day It was the brainchild of concert promoters Rick Van Santen and Paul Tollett organized by Tollett's company Goldenvoice — which made its name in the 1980s booking punk rock acts that other promoters wouldn't Tollett also helped the band Pearl Jam book alternate venues during its boycott of Ticketmaster after a dispute in the early 1990s One of their gigs ended up at the Empire Polo Club — and showed Tollett how prime the venue could be for the large-scale festival of his dreams Coachella's organizers hoped to emulate the multi-act days-long music festivals that were so popular overseas such as those in Reading and Glastonbury in the United Kingdom "For Southern California, this could be the start of something really special," Tollett told the Los Angeles Times in 1999 Coachella took a break in 2000 and returned in 2001 this time scaled back to a single day and scheduled for the milder weather of April ticket prices and crowd sizes kept growing "The desert town of Indio has become the unlikely location of one of the hottest music festivals in the country," NPR's Stacey Bond reported in 2004 That was the year tickets sold out for the first time, drawing a crowd of 120,000 to see acts including Radiohead and The Cure, as well the reunited Pixies (the first of many reunions on the Coachella stage) These days, general admission passes start around $600, not including extra fees for camping and parking. The festival that originally resisted sponsorship deals now boasts dozens of corporate partners And while it still showcases dozens of the moment's biggest artists (144 acts this year), it's about much more than just music, especially in the era of social media and influencers "The word 'Coachella' itself has become shorthand for a tastemaker event," the Los Angeles Times declared in 2019 Crider says the local economy is dependent on events like Coachella to draw people in calling the influx of festival goers "a huge shot in the arm for our economy." "As someone who has lived in this valley for half of my lifetime "And then they line up at grocery stores and they go on buses that take them down to … the polo grounds where they're going to see all the music performed the reality of life in the region — and the huge discrepancies in wealth — are not necessarily apparent to people who associate Coachella simply with the festival that bears its name He says festival goers who complain about the Coachella heat likely don't realize that there are farmworkers harvesting produce in that same sun just miles away or that many of the people putting the food on their restaurant tables rely on food banks themselves "That is something that people might not realize when they're out here spending a gazillion dollars to attend a music festival and being overcharged for drinks and whatnot "You wouldn't think that there would be so much poverty out here at the same time." Crider says a lot of young people leave the area for college and don't return because of a lack of jobs which is something business interests in the valley are trying to change "There have been efforts to try to diversify the economy … so that we don't remain forever dependent on just agriculture or tourism," he adds "But that's how this area was really created — and it works." According to a report by the AEG 73% of Coachella’s attendees were between 18 and 34 years old He told attendees that America’s future is “dependent upon your generation,” saying that “you can turn away and you can ignore what goes on While the long list of festival-goers includes a number of A-list celebrities and influencers — such as Kylie Jenner Paris Hilton and Justin Bieber — around 125,000 people attend each day many attendees arrived a day early on Thursday to set up camp.  But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Some attendees reportedly spent 12 hours waiting to be admitted to the campgrounds as temperatures reached highs of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit Nonetheless, by Friday afternoon, festivities were officially underway, with dozens of performances taking place across the festival’s eight main stages. One of Friday’s performances offered Brown students a sneak peak into what can be expected at Spring Weekend, as Ravyn Lenae delivered a beautiful and ethereal performance of “Genius” that will probably be even better on the Main Green.  took to the Coachella stage for a 110-minute performance that was nothing short of extravagant.  Gaga’s immaculate artistry was evident throughout her whole performance as she delivered absolutely stunning vocals choreography and a career-defining performance Gaga’s voice was perfectly lined with emotion during “Paparazzi,” with her performance paying homage to her 15-year-old video Gaga performed her pride month 2011 classic “Born This Way,” which includes the lyrics “No matter gay But this support for the transgender community felt insincere and despite her mentions of current “mayhem” in the world her words felt shallow in comparison to other artists who more explicitly used their platforms for social good “Brat” was brought to life on the Coachella stage with XCX bringing Troye Sivan onstage for an energetic “Talk talk featuring troye sivan.” Even though the stage setup was simple — fog and bright flashing lights — her stage presence alone was more than enough to engage the audience so confusing featuring lorde,” which was arguably the highlight of the set XCX brought back the energy from “Brat Summer,” and her performance was enhanced by the addition of not just Sivan and Lorde who performed “Guess featuring billie eilish.” continued the political undertones from the previous night The set started off strong with an updated iteration of “American Idiot,” substituting “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” with “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda,” referencing President Trump’s signature phrase “Make America Great Again.”  But that was not the band’s only political commentary Their rendition of “Jesus in Suburbia” included an addition by the lead singer like the kids from Palestine,” to which he received raucous applause Megan Thee Stallion’s stellar performance was overshadowed by faulty technology with her microphone cutting out during “Mamushi.” While she continued to dance and rap silently amid the crowd chanting her name the festival’s technical difficulties did her artistry a gross injustice she brought out multiple surprise guests including Queen Latifah all of whom were received with enthusiastic cheers.  The weekend was closed out by Post Malone’s 90-minute set that delivered an interesting combination of hip-hop and country He put on a strong show that ended the first weekend of Coachella on a high note Talia LeVine is a section editor covering arts and culture They study Political Science and Visual Art with a focus on photography they can be found drinking copious amounts of coffee and thousands have descended on the desert to see the biggest stars in music during Weekend 2 of the two-part festival.See all of the celebrities who have graced the Coachella stage at the buzzy music festival known for its influencer and celebrity attendees as well as its California desert backdrop starting with Green Day performing on April 19 Travis Scott performs at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Ed Sheeran performs at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Cynthia Erivo performs at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Clairo performs at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Flavor Flav introduces Green Day at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Green Day performs at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Tink performs at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 The Original Misfits perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Laufey joins Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic perform during the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 19 Lisa performs at the Sahara tent during the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio Kyle Cappo of San Diego dances atop a friend's shoulders to his favorite Lady Gaga song "How Bad Do U Want Me," during her headlining set at Coachella on April 19 A festivalgoer sits atop a friend's shoulders to watch Lady Gaga during her headlining set at Coachella on April 18 Lisa arrives on stage at the Sahara tent during Coachella on April 18 Fireworks go off during Lady Gaga's headlining set at Coachella on April 19 Lisa performs during Coachella on April 18 Coco and Breezy perform in the Yuma tent during Coachella on April 18 Maxim (left) and Rob Holliday of The Prodigy perform at the Mojave tent during Coachella on April 18 TOPS perform in the Sonora tent at Coachella on April 18 Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 perform at the Outdoor Theatre during Coachella on April 18 Lead vocalist Joe Keery of Djo is known for his role as Steve Harrington on "Stranger Things." While plans have not been finalized, Jeffries said the budget proposal includes “the largest proposed cut to Medicaid in American history.” “It will hurt children and families and seniors and women and older Americans and everyday Americans with disabilities,” Jeffries said of the proposed budget Democrats are “going to do everything we can to stop this budget in its tracks bury it in the ground and make sure it never rises again,” though he did not share specifics on how the party will do so Jeffries and other lawmakers later mentioned that it “only takes four Republicans” to derail Trump’s legislative agenda “We're going to try as far as we can to find those folks,” Jeffries said noting Democrats in the minority prevented a repeal of the Affordable Care Act in 2017 during the first Trump administration Asked by a resident what Democrats are doing to fight Trump’s agenda Jeffries described the current budget proposal as “the most significant battle line that has been drawn at this particular point in time,” saying the party’s three “battlefields” are in Congress The town hall also featured speakers discussing the local impacts of the proposed cuts whose organization is preparing to have fewer meat and dairy products for delivery this summer due to federal cuts described people who go multiple days without food while providing for their loved ones “If there are cuts … it could be detrimental for people because we will start seeing hunger in a way that we have never seen it before in this country and I don’t think that’s what America is about,” Espinosa said Related: Feds cancel shipments of meat and dairy to Coachella Valley food bank Tom Henderson, an Imperial County resident and Vietnam War veteran, criticized DOGE cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs saying it’s become harder for him to book appointments at his nearest VA hospital in San Diego The quartet of elected officials then took questions from the audience with multiple attendees raising concerns about the Trump administration’s immigration and deportation policies “Where’s the due process?” asked a woman from Indio pointing to fast-track deportations of undocumented immigrants Ruiz reaffirmed that he and his colleagues will fight for every person’s right to due process saying many people have been deported in “a very heartless brutal way.” He also noted some court orders have halted actions by the administration In response to a question about how Democrats can produce a more unified message, Jeffries noted that Trump has the lowest presidential approval rating of any president in modern American history through their first 100 days. (An ABC News poll found Trump with the lowest approval rating in the last 80 years.) is actually breaking through more than it ever has against any other president in American history at this particular point in time,” Jeffries said Other attendees asked about proposed cuts to the Department of Education the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Particularly with the potential elimination of the Department of Education Jeffries said it can only be dismantled by an act of Congress who co-chairs a Democratic steering committee that guides caucus priorities told the crowd that the event in the valley is the first of a series of town halls the party’s steering committee is hosting in red and blue districts across the United States “When we go back to Washington to fight this dangerous Republican budget we're taking your stories with us,” Barragán told the crowd “We are laser-focused on talking to the American people and laser-focused on making sure we have Speaker Hakeem Jeffries in 2026,” she added later in the event As someone who’s seen The Misfits many times since the band’s 1995 reunion — an era that began without original frontman Glenn Danzig — I never thought I’d witness a true reconciliation between Danzig and bassist Jerry Only the impossible happened: The Original Misfits came back together And it happened again this month at the Empire Polo Club in Indio Watching them perform Saturday night during Weekend 2 of the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was something I wasn’t entirely prepared for Danzig brought a tension and attitude that simply wasn’t present when Michale Graves fronted the band or even when Only took over vocal duties in later years high-production sets that filled the Outdoor Theatre earlier in the day The Original Misfits’ setup was stripped-down — aside from lighting video projections and two towering inflatable jack-o’-lanterns each painted with the signature Crimson Ghost logo They opened about 15 minutes late with “Death Comes Ripping,” and Danzig immediately set the tone “This is gonna be a loud, obnoxious, un-PC, un-woke, motherf–king punk music kind of set,” he declared, possibly a jab at Green Day, who had just wrapped their set on the nearby Coachella Stage The band came in hot with “20 Eyes,” “I Turned Into a Martian” and “Vampira,” and dug deep into their early catalog The set featured songs not played during Weekend 1 including “Teenagers From Mars” and the full 1978 Bullet EP: “Bullet,” “We Are 138,” “Attitude” and “Hollywood Babylon.” More: The Original Misfits setlist: Here's everything the band played at Coachella Weekend 2 Danzig’s between-song banter was chaotic in the way only he can deliver griping about the festival’s “$20 water” — an exaggerated figure but still a clear jab at the weekend’s inflated prices As rapper Travis Scott’s set kicked off on the Coachella Stage “You would think they’ve had enough f–king techno for one evening,” before launching into “Some Kinda Hate.” Near 12:05 a.m. he claimed the band was supposed to stop playing They tore through “Hybrid Moments” and “Halloween” in defiance of the supposed curfew Then came one of the night’s more unfiltered moments “The California wildfires started by themselves I got a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you right now,” he said before diving into the next song The Original Misfits closed their 20-song set with “Horror Business,” “Skulls,” “Astro Zombies” and “Last Caress," leaving longtime fans grinning like devils One question lingered throughout the set: Were The Original Misfits the right fit for Coachella especially as the Outdoor Theatre’s Saturday night closer and even a few dads bringing their kids to witness punk history The Original Misfits’ set felt like a midnight horror movie screening in the middle of the desert and defiantly out of place in the best way possible Surprise guests have become a cherished tradition at the festival with big appearances sending an electrifying shock through the crowds We're keeping track of all the biggest guest stars for Weekend 2 has really made a name for himself these last two weekends of Coachella he brought out Kesha to sing her bop "YIPPEE-KI-YAY." The pair ended the song in a sweet embrace and Jelly got on the mic to comment on how good of a father Post is which was notable considering Post is in the middle of a custody battle with his ex-fiancee
