Elizabeth Scott wasn’t sold on the idea of opening a photography studio in a vacant Collierville church when her mom presented the idea
Elizabeth's parents live near Collierville Town Square
saw that the former Presbyterian Church of Collierville at 111 Walnut St
However, she had a change of heart when she went back to the church and her parents came along. Her father is Carson Looney, a local architect and one of the founding principals of notable Memphis-based architecture firm Looney Ricks Kiss (LRK)
The Scotts then could see the potential for a photography studio at the vacant church
“My wife’s dad being an architect and having all of these ideas and just mentally
we could kind of just see it all put together before it was ever started on and we were like
who is an endodontist at Memphis Endodontics
What are the plans for the former Presbyterian Church of Collierville? The plan is to convert the church into a photography and event space called One Eleven Walnut
The church space was recently used by Simply Done Catering
which now is located in another area in Collierville
Elizabeth said the plan is to open One Eleven Walnut in early June
Once they receive the necessary permit from the Town of Collierville
the Scotts plan to replace the outside part of the church with new wood as well as remodel and reuse the inside of the church
“We’re just basically repurposing everything and keeping it clean,” Elizabeth said
“We’re going to paint it and once we get our permit
We’ll have a storage unit area as well my office area in here where I’ll work during the day
myself and other photographers will be able to come in here and work as well
The photographers will able to rent it out
bring their clients and do their own sessions in here as well."
One Eleven Walnut will also have an event space people can rent and host events including bridal showers
Elizabeth said One Eleven Walnut will supply tables and chairs
Interested parties have the option to bring in their own catering
The Scotts said the space would also be available for people who wanted to get coffee and come over and work there
“We feel like this can be what anybody wants it to be,” Brandon said
it’s not just a studio or not just an event space
It can be any of those and everything in between.”
COLLIERVILLE BUSINESS NEWS: What's the latest on Thompson Machinery's move to Collierville? Here's where things stand
How Collierville ordinance change helped pave way for projectElizabeth has been a photographer since 2008
She started her photography business when she moved to Nashville in 2013
she moved back to the area after marrying her husband and has been running her photography business out of her Germantown home
Before the Scotts closed on the Collierville church property in late 2024
there were some changes that the town had to make to allow them operate a photography studio in the former church space
Collierville Town Planner Jaime Groce told The Commercial Appeal that town staff recently helped the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen rewrite some of the zoning rules in the central business district to help make sure businesses like One Eleven Walnut would be allowed “by right.”
but what was really funny was in the original laws
bylaws or whatever in Collierville that businesses that were allowed on (Town) Square did not include a studio like a photography or art," Brandon said
They really quickly realized that was just an oversight or an old and outdated (ordinance) that was put in
They did the necessary changes before we purchased it
Elizabeth said she always wanted a studio in Collierville on or near Town Square and is eager about bringing something to the Memphis suburb
“I’m very excited and it has always been a dream of mine to have a space and be able to contribute to the town,” she said
“I’ve had a lot of people come up to me about it and say
‘We don’t have anything like this and this is going to be so great for the town.’ And
so it makes me feel good that people are excited about it.”

Dutch Bros Coffee is also known for making strong contributions to the communities it services. According to its website, each year Dutch Bros Coffee dedicates a day in May called “Drink One for Dane” to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association to end Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in honor of co-founder Dane Boersma following his diagnosis and fight with ALS
“The thing we feel will separate us from other competitors is that we have a huge variety of different drinks that are all hand crafted by our 'broistas,' which is our spin on baristas
They are completely customizable meaning we have a huge menu
including both caffeinated and non-caffeinated beverages,” Beeson said
“But the other thing that really separates us is the culture of our company
We are super big on our relationships and putting back in the community
whether doing local giveback days at each of our locations in hopes to serve our community in whatever capacity we can
It’s kind of our blueprint (helping the community)."
