State police will soon provide overnight patrols in Collingdale
The added patrols are set to start on Thursday from 12 a.m
Collingdale's mayor says the staff shortages that the department is experiencing are keeping officers from safely and adequately meeting full-time police coverage requirements
This comes just weeks after Collingdale Borough Council officials hired a new police chief despite opposition from community members

PA — A local man was taken into custody after Pennsylvania State Police said he broke into a home under duress of an oncoming bowel movement
12 at a home on Pusey Avenue in Collingdale
Police were called to the home by a resident who told them a man broke into their home through the basement
identified as 44-year-old Jovan Gray of Collingdale
sitting on top of a bucket with his pants down
Responding troopers noted feces all over the kitchen floor
and he told them he broke into the home because he had to "take a s***."
He is being held after failing to post 10 percent of $30,000 bail and is scheduled for a March 26 preliminary hearing

Officers with the Collingdale Police Department responded to a shooting at the convenience store around 7:20 p.m.
according to an affidavit obtained by USA TODAY
a police investigator discovered the pregnant victim
"laying on the ground in the side parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso," the document stated
told investigators that she fatally shot the victim
The 30-year-old also informed the official that she had a license to carry a firearm

A part-time Collingdale Borough police officer who was sworn in on Sunday to help with a staffing shortage was criminally charged four days later for an alleged 2023 road-rage incident and has resigned
for allegedly pointing a gun at another motorist on April 5
according to the criminal complaint filed Thursday by the Pennsylvania State Police
said in an email that the case was delayed for 21 months because the forensic evidence was sent to a lab and “took quite a while to process and receive which held up the case.”

There are currently five full-time police officers working in Collingdale
explaining that the borough has a capacity for 14 full- and part-time officers
Mayor Donna Matteo-Spadea last fall reached an arrangement with the state police to help with overnight police coverage
announced in a statement that Darden had been sworn in as a part-time officer to work immediately
Matteo-Spadea said in a statement on Wednesday that despite the understaffing problems
she declined to personally swear in Darden
“When I received a request to swear in an Officer
whom I have never met or had any qualifications to go over

I will always prioritize our community’s and Officers’ well-being
with no training for your first tour of duty
Last fall, Collingdale was roiled with controversy when the borough council attempted to hire a Chester police officer as the chief
The president of the Delaware County police union objected and said Rhaheem Blanden was under criminal investigation for alleged misconduct while with the Chester police
The borough decided against Blanden and instead hired Mitchell
Court records show no charges have been filed in Delaware County against Blanden since the Collingdale controversy erupted
the police union president and also deputy police chief in Folcroft

Police were called to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital at about 12:20 a.m
they met a 34-year-old Prospect Park woman who told them she was attacked by her ex-boyfriend
She told them the attack happened in a Collingdale bar
Police said she relayed the man punched her in the face at the bar

A Delaware County police department with a severe staffing shortage will soon receive help from state police troopers
Troopers will be providing overnight patrol and investigatory coverage for Collingdale Borough beginning Thursday
That coverage will be ongoing until further notice
State police will cover the borough from 12 a.m
The Collingdale Police Department is experiencing an extreme staffing shortage with their officers unable to "safely and adequately meet the full-time police coverage requirements until hiring and training of additional qualified police officers can be completed," according to the news release

following serious charges stemming from an alleged road rage incident and shooting in Delaware County
faces charges after reportedly pointing a firearm at a dump truck driver on I-95 on April 5
according to an affidavit of probable cause released by Pennsylvania State Police
on I-95 North near Mile Marker 8.0 in Ridley Township
A dump truck driver reported that the driver of a bright blue Dodge Charger with no license plate pointed a gun at him before continuing toward Philadelphia
The victim later told police the incident escalated on I-476 South when Darden supposedly cut him off
and began taking pictures and videos of his truck
The situation got worse near Mile Marker 1.0 in Ridley Township
He alleged that Darden pointed a black handgun at him through a partially open car window
The victim told police he felt threatened and scared
Darden reportedly called Carusone Construction in Philadelphia
to report the truck driver as the aggressor
Police met Darden at the construction site
where he was identified as the driver of the Dodge Charger
who had facial hair matching the victim's description of a younger Black male with facial hair
identified himself as a Cheyney University Police Officer
Darden returned to the scene in his bright blue Dodge Charger with no registration plate and consented to a search of the vehicle as well as gunshot residue tests on himself and the car
Darden's issued Glock 17 firearm was seized during the search
The weapon had one round in the chamber and 16 rounds in its 17-round magazine
Authorities also recovered one spent casing of FC Luger 9mm ammunition from the trunk of Darden's Charger
Darden admitted to using his phone to take pictures and videos during the incident on the highway and showed officers the images and videos
he refused to consent to a full phone download
Darden denied using his firearm during the incident
Many residents questioned why Darden was sworn in as a Collingdale officer
to which Mayor Donna Matteo-Spadea responded:
