If you’re an Anaconda user, you know that conda environments help you manage package dependencies
they can also take over your computer’s hard drive
I write lots of computer tutorials and to keep them organized, each has a dedicated folder structure complete with a Conda Environment
but soon my computer’s performance degraded
Conda helps manage this problem by storing downloaded package files in a single “cache” (pkgs_dirs)
conda checks for it in the package cache before downloading
conda will download and extract the package and link the files to the active environment
Because the cache is “shared,” different environments can use the same downloaded files without duplication
Because conda caches every downloaded package, pkgs_dirs can grow to many gigabytes
And while conda links to shared packages in the cache
there is still a need to store some packages in the environment folder
This is mainly to avoid version conflicts
where different environments need different versions of the same dependency (a package required to run another package)
In addition, large, compiled binaries like OpenCV may require full copies in the environment’s directory
and each environment requires a copy of the Python interpreter (at 100–200 MB)
All these issues can bloat conda environments to several gigabytes
In this Quick Success Data Science project
we’ll look at some techniques for reducing the storage requirements for conda environments
including those stored in default locations and dedicated folders
Below are some Memory Management techniques that will help you reduce conda’s storage footprint on your machine
Cleaning the package cache is the first and easiest step for freeing up memory
conda keeps the related package files in the cache
You can free up space by removing these unused packages and their associated tarballs (compressed package files)
logs, index caches (metadata stored in conda)
Conda permits an optional “dry run” to see how much memory will be reclaimed
You’ll want to run this from either the terminal or Anaconda Prompt in your base environment:
This process trimmed a healthy 6.28 GB and took several minutes to run
Creating a few environments for specialized tasks — like computer vision or geospatial work — is more memory efficient than using dedicated environments for each project
These environments would include basic packages plus ones for the specific task (such as OpenCV
An advantage of this approach is that you can easily keep all the packages up to date and link the environments to multiple projects
this won’t work if some projects require different versions of the shared packages
If you don’t have enough storage sites or want to preserve legacy projects efficiently
consider using environment or specifications files
These small files record an environment’s contents
Saving conda environments in this manner reduces their size on disk from gigabytes to a few kilobytes
you’ll have to recreate the environment to use it
you’ll want to avoid this technique if you frequently revisit projects that link to the archived environments

Using Environment Files: An environmental file is a small file that lists all the packages and versions installed in an environment, including those installed using Python’s package installer (pip)
This helps you both restore an environment and share it with others
The environment file is written in YAML (.yml)
a human-readable data-serialization format for data storage
you must activate and then export the environment
Here’s how to make a file for an environment named my_env:
You can name the file any valid filename but be careful as an existing file with the same name will be overwritten
the environment file is written to the user directory
Here’s a truncated example of the file’s contents:
You can now remove your conda environment and reproduce it again with this file
first deactivate it and then run the remove command (where ENVNAME is the name of your environment):
If the conda environment exists outside of Anaconda’s default envs folder
then include the directory path to the environment
Note that this archiving technique will only work perfectly if you continue to use the same operating system
This is because solving for dependencies can introduce packages that might not be compatible across platforms
To restore a conda environment using a file
where my_env represents your conda environment name and environment.yml represents your environment file:
You can also use the environment file to recreate the environment on your D: drive
Just provide the new path when using the file

Using Specifications Files: If you haven’t installed any packages using pip
you can use a specifications file to reproduce a conda environment on the same operating system
Note that the --explicit flag ensures that the targeted platform is annotated in the file
in this case, # platform: win-64 in the third line
You can now remove the environment as described in the previous section
To re-create my_env using this text file
run the following with a proper directory path:
The conda-pack command lets you archive a conda environment before removing it
It packs the entire environment into a compressed archive with the extension: .tar.gz
and moving environments without the need to reinstall packages
The following command will preserve an environment but remove it from your system (where my_env represents the name of your environment):
To restore the environment later run this command:
This technique won’t save as much memory as the text file option
you won’t need to re-download packages when restoring an environment
which means it can be used without internet access
conda stores all environments in a default location
this is under the …\anaconda3\envs folder
You can see these environments by running the command conda info --envs in a prompt window or terminal
Here’s how it looks on my C: drive (this is a truncated view):
Using a Single Environments Folder: If your system supports an external or secondary drive
you can configure conda to store environments there to free up space on your primary disk
Here’s the command; you’ll need to substitute your specific path:
conda will create new environments at this location
This technique works well when your external drive is a fast SSD and when you’re storing packages with large dependencies
If your OS and notebooks remain on the primary drive
you may experience some read/write latency when running Python
some OS settings may power down idle external drives
Tools like Jupyter may struggle to locate conda environments if the drive letter changes
so you’ll want to use a fixed drive letter and ensure that the correct kernel paths are set
Using Multiple Environment Folders: Instead of using a single envs_dirs directory for all environments
you can store each environment inside its respective project folder
This lets you store everything related to a project in one place
suppose you have a project on your Windows D: drive in a folder called D:\projects\geospatial
To place the project’s conda environment in this folder
loaded with ipykernel for JupyterLab
you can call env something more descriptive
environments stored on a different disk can cause performance issues
Special Note on JupyterLab: Depending on how you launch JupyterLab
its default behavior may be to open in your user directory (such as, C:\Users\your_user_name)
Since its file browser is restricted to the directory from which it is launched
you won’t see directories on other drives like D:\
but one of the simplest is to launch JupyterLab from the D: drive
you will be able to pick from kernels on the D: drive

Moving Existing Environments: You should never manually move a conda environment
such as by cutting and pasting to a new location
This is because conda relies on internal paths and metadata that can become invalid with location changes
you should clone existing environments to another drive
This will duplicate the environment
so you’ll need to manually remove it from its original location
we use the --clone flag to produce an exact copy of a C: drive environment (called my_env) on the D: drive:
NOTE: Consider exporting your environment to a YAML file (as described in Section 3 above) before cloning
This allows you to recreate the environment if something goes wrong with the clone procedure
you’ll see the environment listed in both the C: and D: drives
You can remove the old environment by running the following command in the base environment:
latency issues may affect these setups if you’re working across two disks
is it better to move a conda environment using an environment (YAML) file or to use--clone
The short answer is that --clone is the best and fastest option for moving an environment to a different drive on the same machine
An environment file is best for recreating the same environment on a different machine
While the file guarantees a consistent environment across different systems
you can move the package cache to a larger external or secondary drive using this command:
packages are now stored on the D drive (D:\conda_pkgs) instead of the default location
If you’re working in your primary drive and both drives are SSD
then latency issues should not be significant
you can experience slowdowns when creating or updating environments
If D: is an external drive connected by USB
you may see significant slowdowns for large environments
You can mitigate some of these issues by keeping the package cache (pkgs_dirs) and frequently used environments on the faster SSD
One last thing to consider is backups
Primary drives may have routine backups scheduled but secondary or external drives may not
This puts you at risk of losing all your environments
If your project doesn’t require conda’s extensive package management system for handling heavy dependencies (like TensorFlow or GDAL)
you can significantly reduce disk usage with a Python virtual environment (venv)
This represents a lightweight alternative to a conda environment
To create a venv named my_env
This type of environment has a small base installation
A minimal conda environment takes up about 200 MB and includes multiple utilities
such as conda, pip, setuptools
with a minimum install size of only 5–10 MB
Conda also caches package tarballs in pkgs_dirs
These tarballs can grow to several GBs over time
Because venv installs packages directly into the environment
you’ll want to consider venv when you only need basic Python packages like NumPy
Packages for which conda is strongly recommended
should still be placed in a conda environment
you’ll probably want to stick with conda and benefit from its package linking

High impact/low disruption memory management techniques for conda environments include cleaning the package cache and storing little-used environments as YAML or text files
These methods can save many gigabytes of memory while retaining Anaconda’s default directory structure
Other high impact methods include moving the package cache and/or conda environments to a secondary or external drive
This will resolve memory problems but may introduce latency issues
especially if the new drive is a slow HDD or uses a USB connection
For simple environments, you can use a Python virtual environment (venv) as a lightweight alternative to conda.

But what if you are running a different DCC version
This blog post walks through how to build your own conda package, then host a conda channel in an Amazon S3 bucket to make the package available to Deadline Cloud render workers. You can create packages that bundle entire applications and run without dependencies, or build upon the thousands of packages maintained and hosted by the conda-forge community
With the ability to have custom conda packages and channels
you can extend your Deadline Cloud pipeline to support virtually any creative tool you use
you will use a Deadline Cloud queue to build a Blender 4.1 conda package starting from the official upstream binary builds
configure the production queue to use a new custom conda channel to find Blender 4.1
and render one of the Blender demo scenes on your farm

The architecture deployed in this blog post adds a new package building queue to your farm
intended for use exclusively by conda package build jobs
While you can build conda packages locally
in this blog post we build packages with AWS Deadline Cloud
This simplifies delivery of the finished packages to the Amazon S3 bucket that we use as our conda channel
reduces the dependencies for building on your own compute
and allows you to build multiple packages without tying up your computer with build processes
A custom conda channel for AWS Deadline Cloud will require an Amazon S3 Bucket
or reuse an existing S3 bucket from one of your queues
You can find S3 bucket information for a queue in the job attachments tab on the queue details page for the desired queue in the Deadline Cloud:

“Awsdeadlinecloudqueuerole” located above the job attachments bucket
Your bucket name and queue role name will be different
We need both the bucket name and the queue service role from the queue details page to configure the production queue. The goal is for the production queue to have read-only access to the new /Conda prefix in the S3 bucket, while the package build queue has read/write permissions. To edit the role permissions, click the queue service role on this page. This takes us straight to the AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) page for that role
select [+] to expand the policy starting with the name AWSDeadlineCloudQueuePolicy
By default, you will see a limited number of permissions for this queue role, as it obeys the principle of least privilege and is limited to only accessing specific resources in your AWS account
You can use either the visual or the JSON editor to add a new section like the following example
Replace the bucket name and account number
The new addition to the policy must allow the s3:GetObject and s3:ListBucket permissions for both the bucket and the new /Conda prefix
we create a new package building queue to which we send jobs to build specific conda packages for the conda channel
From the farm page in the Deadline Cloud console
you can use the same bucket as the production queue or create a new one
so the artifacts here stay separate from your normal Deadline Cloud job attachments
you can use one of your existing fleets or you can create an entirely new fleet if your current fleet is unsuitable
we recommend creating and using a new queue service role
which is set up and automatically given read/write permissions to the S3 bucket and prefix you specified
Just as we modified the production queue role previously
we must similarly modify the package build queue’s role to give it read/write access to the /Conda prefix

Since this set of permissions needs to be read/write
the policy addition includes all four permissions that the default queue destination does: s3:GetObject
These permissions are needed for package build jobs to upload new packages and to reindex the channel
Please replace the bucket name and account number
The last step is submitting those OpenJD job bundles to the queue using the Deadline Cloud CLI
Run deadline config gui in the bash-compatible shell to open the configuration GUI
and set the default farm and queue to the package building queue that you created
With git clone, clone the Deadline Cloud samples GitHub repository, switch to its conda_recipes directory
and find a script called submit-package-job
Running this script the first time provides you with instructions for downloading Blender
Follow the instructions and when the download is complete
run the job again to create the submission
Use the Deadline Cloud monitor to view the progress and status of the job as it runs
With the default 2 vCPU and 8 GiB RAM instance size specifications
The default fleet settings are relatively small for building conda packages and rendering
In the lower left of the Deadline Cloud monitor are the two steps of the job: building the package and then reindexing
In the lower right are the individual tasks for each step
Right click on the task for the package building step

check “View logs for all tasks” to view additional logs regarding the setup and tear down of the environment that the job runs in
To use the S3 conda channel and the Blender 4.1 package
jobs need to add the s3://<job-attachments-bucket>/Conda/Default channel location to the CondaChannels parameter of jobs you submit to Deadline Cloud
The pre-built Deadline Cloud submitters provide you fields where you can specify custom conda channels and conda packages
In the section that specifies the CondaChannels parameter is a line that sets its default value as follows:
Edit that line to start with your newly created S3 conda channel:
default: "s3://<job-attachments-bucket>/Conda/Default deadline-cloud"
Because Service-Managed Fleets enable strict channel priority for conda by default
building blender in your S3 channel stops conda from considering the deadline-cloud channel at all
This means that a job that includes blender=3.6
that previously succeeded by using the deadline-cloud channel
will fail now that you have built Blender 4.1
Now that you have a package built and your queue configured to use the channel it’s in
switch to your production queue by running the CLI command deadline config gui once more

The download consists of the file called blender-3.5-splash.blend
and it can easily render even on the quickstart onboarding fleet
you may need to increase the fleet configuration values from the Deadline Cloud console
The Deadline Cloud samples GitHub repository contains a sample job that can render a Blender scene by using the following commands

select the session action called “Launch Conda.” You can see that it searched for Blender 4.1 in the two conda channels configured in the queue environment
and it found the package in the S3 channel
When the job finishes, you can download the output to view the result

I like to show tech working in my posts, and on my modest pre-silicon MacBook. So when Meta’s Llama 3.2 and Llama Stack for developers were released
I discovered that the process is still a little complex and not quite flexible enough
although I imagine some of these may be redefined in the future
They are accessed by an API of REST endpoints
The other key term is the definition of a distribution. This is where “APIs and Providers are assembled together to provide a consistent whole.” At the moment
and more time will be needed for these to become established — the success or failure of the platform will be decided on how good these are

You can use a Python-controlled environment to set things up
there aren’t too many references to using Docker
At the moment, the system doesn’t work on Windows — I found that some of the Python libraries referring to the interactive console were Unix-specific. But this seems minor. The main example template in the stack doesn’t play well without a dedicated GPU, but I could get around that by using an Ollama distribution

This is what Meta should be looking to simplify in newer versions

I did wonder if I didn’t quite get this right
it gave the line to actually run the stack:
I could not get our TheNewStackStack to run — it didn’t seem to be aware of the Ollama server
It’s great that Meta has made an early version of their intentions available to access
and if you have a good Unix system and more luck than me it should be accessible
I will have another try on a later release when some of the oddities are ironed out
But this post should give you a feeling for the work you need to do
and the experience you need to push through before you can try out some of the example scripts and actually use the stack
The ModuleNotFoundError: no module named ‘Pandas’ most often occurs when the Python interpreter can’t locate the Pandas library installation
The simplest solution is to make sure Pandas is installed with the following command in pip:
there are more reasons why you might get ModuleNotFoundError: No module named ‘pandas’

The ModuleNotFoundError: no module named ‘Pandas’ often occurs in PyCharm, VS Code, Jupyter Notebook and any other IDE of your choice
The tool is ultimately irrelevant because it doesn’t cause the error
it only reports the result from the Python interpreter

We’ll now walk you through a series of potential reasons why you’re getting the No Module Named ‘Pandas’ error
We have a virtual environment named pandas-env
which contains the latest development version of Pandas - 2.0.0RC1
This Pandas installation is specific to that environment and isn’t accessible outside it
Take a look at the following image to verify:
If you were to deactivate this environment and import Pandas in a global (system-wide) one
you will get a ModuleNotFoundError: No module named ‘pandas’ error:
If you install Pandas inside a virtual environment
don’t forget to activate it before working with Pandas
Failing to do so is likely to result in a ModuleNotFoundError
since the global Python installation doesn’t know of the Pandas dependency
If you name your Python module pandas or if you create a file called pandas.py
you will shadow the actual library you’re trying to import. Doing this could return all sorts of errors
main.py tries to import the Pandas library and print its version
but it imports the pandas.py file since it shadows the actual library
Running main.py would result in the following error:
Make sure your files and folders don’t have the same name as built-in Python libraries
nor the libraries you’ve installed manually

If you import the Pandas library and then somewhere in your script assign a value to a variable named pandas
that variable will shadow the library name
you won’t be able to access all the properties and methods Pandas library has to offer
it imports the Pandas library and then declares a variable pandas and assigns a string to it
You can still print out the contents of the variable
but you can’t access properties and methods from the Pandas library anymore:
Be more creative with how you name your variables and make sure the name is different from any module you’ve imported.
And there you have it, a list of many, many ways to install Pandas, and many potential issues and solutions you might encounter. As always, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but you’re more than likely to find an answer to ModuleNotFoundError: No module named ‘pandas’ in this article.
Likely, you don’t have the library installed, but if that’s not the case, one of the other explained solutions is almost guaranteed to do the trick.
First, make sure that Pandas is installed. Do so by running either pip install pandas or conda install pandas, depending on your environment. If that doesn’t work, try reinstalling Pandas by running the following sets of commands.
If neither of those works, make sure you don’t have a file/folder named pandas or pandas.py in your project’s directory, and make sure you haven’t named a variable pandas after importing the library.
In case you’re using an IDE such as PyCharm, VS Code or Jupyter, it’s possible the IDE is not recognizing your Python environment. Make sure the appropriate Python kernel is selected first.
A solution to ModuleNotFoundError: No module named ‘pandas’ VS Code:

One likely reason you can’t install Pandas in Python is that you don’t have administrative privileges on your system. For example, maybe you’re using a work or college computer and trying to install Pandas there. That system will likely be protected, and it won’t allow you to install anything, Python modules included.
Another potential reason is that you’re maybe behind a corporate firewall. Before installing Pandas, configure the firewall settings manually to allow outgoing connections to the Internet, or talk to a company specialist.
You can verify if Pandas is installed on your system by opening up a Python interpreter and running the following code:
If you don’t see any errors after the library import and if you see the version printed, then you have Pandas installed. Congratulations!

Let’s start by deploying a Vultr server with the Anaconda marketplace application
Sign up and log in to the Vultr Customer Portal
Select Anaconda amongst marketplace applications
Select any more features as required in the “Additional Features” section
we’ll next deploy a Vultr-managed PostgreSQL Database
We’ll also create two new databases in our database instance that will be used to connect with our Airflow application later in the blog
Open the Vultr Customer Portal
Click the Products menu group and navigate to Databases to create a PostgreSQL managed database
Select PostgreSQL with the latest version as the database engine
Select Server Configuration and Server Location
click Add Database and name it airflow-pgsql
Repeat steps 9 and 10 to add another database in the same managed database and name it airflow-celery
Now that we’ve created a Vultr-managed PostgreSQL instance
we’ll use the Vultr server to create a Conda environment and install the required dependencies
now let’s connect our Airflow application with the two databases we created earlier within our database instance and make necessary changes to the Airflow configuration to make our application production-ready

and port with the actual values in the connection details section by selecting the airflow-pgsql database
We must initialize a metadata database for Airflow to create necessary tables and schema that stores information like DAGs and information related to our workflows:
Link the Vultr-managed PostgreSQL database
Scroll down and change the worker and trigger log ports:
Remove the # and change the result_backend:
and port with the actual values in the connection details section by selecting the airflow-celery database
Make sure to replace all the variable values with the actual values
Enter a password when prompted to set it for the user while accessing the dashboard
Now let’s daemonize our Airflow application so that it runs in the background and continues to run independently even when we close the terminal and log out
These steps will also help us to create a persistent service for the Airflow webserver
Copy and paste the path into the clipboard
Paste the service configurations in the file
airflow webserver is responsible for providing a web-based user interface that will allow us to interact and manage our workflows
These configurations will make a background running service for our Airflow webserver:

Celery is a distributed task queue that will allow us to distribute and execute tasks across multiple workers
The workers connect to our Redis server to receive and execute tasks:

It also checks the status of DAGs and tasks periodically:

We’ve created persistent services for the Airflow application, so now we’ll set up Nginx as a reverse proxy to enhance our application’s security and scalability following the steps outlined below
Log in to the Vultr Customer Portal
Follow the setup procedure to add your domain name by selecting the IP address of your server
Set the following hostnames as your domain’s primary and secondary nameservers with your domain registrar:
Make sure to check if the Nginx server is up and running:
Create a new Nginx virtual host configuration file in the sites-available directory:
These configurations will direct the traffic on our application from the actual domain to the backend server at http://127.0.0.1:8080 using a proxy pass:
Make sure to replace airflow.example.com with the actual domain we added in the Vultr dashboard
Link the configuration file to the sites-enabled directory to activate the configuration file:
Make sure to check the configuration for errors:
Allow the HTTP port 80 through the firewall for all the incoming connections:
Allow the HTTPS port 443 through the firewall for all incoming connections:
The last step is to apply a Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificate to our Airflow application so that it becomes much more secure and saves our application from unwanted attacks.
Using Snap, install the Certbot Let’s Encrypt client:
Test that the SSL certificate auto-renews upon expiry.

If you’ve been working in the ArcGIS Pro Python environment extensively
you may have noticed that the Python installation that ships with ArcGIS is fully isolated from any other Python installation on your machine
it can be inconvenient for users who want to access conda (and Python) outside the pathways provided by ArcGIS
such as the default Windows PowerShell or Command Prompt (CMD)
the conda init command is now enabled for ArcGIS Pro 3.1
which allows users to access conda and Python easily from their preferred shells
we’ll explore how the conda init command works with ArcGIS Pro
Conda is a powerful package and environment manager that lets you create isolated environments with specific versions of packages, including Python and other dependencies. Conda is included with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise and is integrated with the Package Manager interface in ArcGIS Pro
While the Package Manager is sufficient for many users
some users require the more granular control offered by the Command Line Interface (CLI) for conda
we purposely keep conda isolated by default
We don’t modify your Windows PATH environment variable
We do this to avoid interfering with any existing installations of conda
allowing other conda and Python installations to work alongside the one provided with ArcGIS Pro
This means that you do not have direct access to conda or Python environments from the standard CMD or PowerShell
we provide the “Python Command Prompt” for ArcGIS Pro or “Python 3 Command Prompt” for ArcGIS Server (from the Windows start menu or via the proenv batch script)
which runs a profile customized to let you work seamlessly with conda and Python alongside ArcGIS
some users may prefer to work from the standard PowerShell or CMD
Up until now, if you wanted to run conda commands from the command line, you had to use the Python Command Prompt or perform some additional manual setup. This gets easier with the conda init command, part of the conda environment model
the conda init command allows you to easily initialize your preferred shell to use conda without making error-prone or inconvenient changes
like modifying your PATH manually or specifying the full path to the executable
conda init adds startup logic to your preferred shell
ensuring that it is permanently configured to work with conda
You can then activate and deactivate conda environments
Be aware that if you are using a separate installation of conda on your machine
the last install that ran conda init will be the default on the shell
It will be up to you to manage any potential for the two independent instances of conda to clash with one another
We’ll set up both the standard PowerShell and CMD at the same time
you’ll need to set the execution policy to remotesigned to allow the signed conda code to execute
set-executionpolicy remotesigned -scope currentuser
Now you’re ready to initialize both shells
& 'C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\condabin\conda.bat' init
you may need to close and restart your shell for the changes to take effect
Next time you open the standard CMD or PowerShell
If you’d like to reverse the conda init operation and return to the ArcGIS Pro conda installation being isolated
& 'C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\condabin\conda.bat' init --reverse
The conda init command adds access to conda commands to the standard PowerShell and CMD
You’ll also notice some differences between your experience in the standard CMD or PowerShell from that in the Python Command Prompt
the standard CMD or PowerShell does not keep the active environment in sync with the environment active in ArcGIS Pro
While PowerShell starts with a conda environment activated
when running conda commands from the Python Command Prompt
you can run some commands like activate without explicitly prefixing it with conda
conda init does not inherently add access to Esri- developed commands such as proswap to the standard PowerShell and CMD
you need to activate the base environment or use the full path to their script in ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\Scripts
A current limitation is that PowerShell also does not properly support using the conda env export command
you need to use Esri’s conda-env export command
you can use the aliases genv as shorthand for conda env list
The Python Command Prompt is slightly more integrated with ArcGIS workflows
and we still recommend using it for managing your ArcGIS environments
having conda available from your preferred shell is still a major convenience

While the Python Command Prompt is still the recommended choice for working with ArcGIS Pro environments
conda init provides more flexibility for users

If you recently bought or got a new M1 Mac from work and you are using Python to develop or work on data science projects you probably already wasted some hours trying to get some packages to run
but I found a way to get many packages to run inside conda environments
many Python packages will not install properly because they are built to run on AMD64 (x86)
I use conda to set up environments for my projects – preferably with Anaconda or Miniconda
When I wanted to install Tensorflow for the first time on my Mac, I stumbled across Miniforge (https://github.com/conda-forge/miniforge) which is comparable to Miniconda
but with conda-forge as the default channel and a focus on supporting various CPU architectures
Tensorflow works like expected when installed with Miniforge
But as soon as I need to install certain packages that I use for work – like SimpleITK (which is now also available as M1 Python wheel!) – Miniforge does not manage to install it
I realized that I can install and use both
Miniforge and Miniconda on the same system
EDIT: As Lucas-Raphael Müller pointed out to me, you do not need to install both, Miniconda and Miniforge. You can choose whether to use packages compiled for Intel chips or Apple Silicon like stated here: https://github.com/Haydnspass/miniforge#rosetta-on-mac-with-apple-silicon-hardware
After installing Miniforge the initialization command will be set in your .bashrc/.zshrc:
You just need to copy your .bashrc/.zshrc file and change miniforge3 to miniconda3 and chose which one you want to use by default
Changing is as simple as running source .bashrc with the desired conda initialization
I was working on a project in which I needed SimpleITK for preprocessing images and Tensorflow to train a model
I was not able to get both working in the same Miniforge environment on the M1
So I split preprocessing and training into two environments
one utilizing Miniconda to run SimpleITK and one Miniforge environment to run Tensorflow
The good part about it is that you can see both
the Miniconda and Miniforge environments at the same time by running conda env list
The only difference is that you will not see the names of the environments built with the other installer
With Miniconda initialized you will need to run conda activate with the full path to the Miniforge environment
This is still easy to manage in a bash script to run scripts using multiple environments built with multiple conda distributions
I hope this is just a temporary workaround until more and more packages will work on the M1

When I first started using Jupyter Notebooks it took me longer than I’d like to admit to figure out how to get my Conda Environment kernels to show in the kernels list
each of which is best for a specific scenario
This is my preferred method because it is simple
New environments appear automatically (as long as they have ipykernel installed.)
nb_conda_kernels does not yet support Python 3.9
This only affects our base environment which we aren’t going to use for any of our work anyway
Your other environments can use any Python version including 3.9
your kernel list (under Change kernel) will only show your current environment
To get your other environment kernels to show automatically:
It is not that much harder to individually register each environment you want to show in your kernels list
If you have many environments this might be preferable because it allows you to register and un-register your environment kernels which could help keep that list tidy
This method doesn’t actually get your environment to show in Jupyter Notebooks
If you install jupyter in any environment and run jupyter notebook from that environment the notebook will use the kernel from the active environment
The kernel will show with the default name Python 3 but we can verify this works by doing the following
how you choose to interact with your kernels in Jupyter Notebook should be based on your particular needs
and not on lack of information about your choices
I hope this article helps to eliminate the later

Today AWS announced the availability of two new versions of the AWS Deep Learning AMI: a Conda-based AMI and a Base AMI
This post will walk you through the instructions and additional resources for making the most of your new AMIs
New Deep Learning AMI with Conda-managed environments
The Conda-managed Python environments are pre-configured for popular deep learning frameworks including Apache MXNet
each Python environment comes in two flavors – Python 2 and Python 3
After you log in to your AWS EC2 instance using the AWS Management Console
you will be greeted with a console message that lists all the Conda environments
You can also get this list by running the following command:
to activate a Python environment for a deep learning framework of your choice
After you are inside the Python environment
you can view the list of installed packages by running the following command:
Running your deep learning code inside the Python environment is simple
or run your deep learning Python code like you normally would:
Now let’s switch to another deep learning framework
Then deactivate the current environment for MXNet
Then switch to a Python environment like you did before

You can also manage the Conda environments straight from your Jupyter notebook browser interface. You can launch a Jupyter notebook server on the Conda-based AMI using instructions on our doc site
Conda supports close integrations to the Jupyter notebook with following features:
First access the Jupyter server on your internet browser
On the main Files page you can choose a Conda environment with the deep learning framework of your choice from the drop-down list
You can then continue starting a new notebook
It will automatically be linked to the Python environment that you selected
You can also use the drop-down list on this page to switch to another environment with a different deep learning framework. To help you get started with your first notebook, the Conda-based AMI comes bundled with several Jupyter notebooks and ready to launch tutorials
and you’ll see a dedicated page for managing the Conda environments on the AMI:
you can browse the list of all the pre-installed Conda environments
the software packages installed inside an environment
and even reconfigure an environment by upgrading packages or uninstalling them
The Base AMI for Amazon Linux and Ubuntu comes with a foundational platform of GPU drivers and acceleration libraries you can use to deploy your own customized deep learning environment
the AMI is configured with an NVidia CUDA 9 environment
you can also switch to a CUDA 8 environment by reconfiguring the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH
You simply need to replace the CUDA 9 portion of the environment variable string with its CUDA 8 equivalent
CUDA 9 portion of the LD_LIBRARY_PATH string (installed by default)

Dependency issues are incredibly common when trying to run an off-the-shelf model
The most problematic of which is needing to have the correct version of CUDA for TensorFlow
TensorFlow has been prominent for a number of years meaning that even new models that are released could use an old version of TensorFlow
This wouldn’t be an issue except that it feels like every version of TensorFlow needs a specific version of CUDA where anything else is incompatible
installing multiple versions of CUDA on the same machine can be a real pain
After many years of headaches, thanks to the help of Anaconda I finally realized that installing TensorFlow and exactly the right CUDA version can be as easy as:
I had previously only used pip due to a shoddy understanding of the difference between pip and conda
Really just knowing that pip is the "official" Python package manager
The primary difference between the two is that conda environments are not only for Python packages
Libraries like CUDA can be installed in your isolated environment
some packages do not exist in conda and you will have to install them through pip which is one reason that people might stray away from conda
Using both conda and pip together can be tricky at times
but I provide some tips to handle that later in this post
If you want to start using conda, follow the anaconda installation instructions in this link
and deleting environments are very similar between pip and conda
Note: After installing Anaconda
it automatically creates and activates a base environment
It is recommended you create new environments yourself

Below are a few examples of how to load TensorFlow and PyTorch models that exist in the [[FiftyOne](https://voxel51.com/docs/fiftyone/index.html)](https://voxel51.com/docs/fiftyone/index.html) model zoo
FiftyOne is an open-source tool for machine learning engineers to store their data
and model predictions in a way that can be easily modified
Included in FiftyOne is a zoo of computer vision models that are available with a single line of code and will serve to easily test our conda environment setups
Note: Installing TensorFlow with GPU functionality requires a Cuda enabled card. Here is a list of CUDA capable GPUs
FiftyOne supports image and video datasets in various formats
I just have a directory of images that I will be loading into FiftyOne to generate model predictions on
You can use your own directory of images if you pass in the /path/to/dataset and specify that you are using a dataset type of fiftone.types.ImageDirectory
I am using the FiftyOne command-line interface (CLI) for most of the work in this example
I can download the model I want to use and then check if the requirements for it are satisfied
I will then apply the model to the dataset to generate predictions and visualize them in the FiftyOne App
You can search for available packages and then choose which TensorFlow version to install
This will install the corresponding CUDA version in your conda environment
I will be using the same procedure as in the TensorFlow 2 example except with a model that uses TensorFlow 1
Installing Pytorch is a bit easier because it is compiled with multiple versions of CUDA
This gives us the freedom to use whatever version of CUDA we want
The default installation instructions at the time of writing (January 2021) recommend CUDA 10.2 but there is a CUDA 11 compatible version of PyTorch
For this example, I’ll use the FiftyOne Python API to perform nearly the same steps as we did previously using the command line. The only difference is the model we are using and that we are loading a dataset from the FiftyOne dataset zoo
Note: Install PyTorch from source if you are using a Mac and need GPU support
Three issues came up when I switched from pip to conda that took a bit of time to figure out
If a package you want to use only exists in pip, you can use pip to install it inside of your conda environment. However, pip and conda don’t always play nice together
The primary issue is that conda is not able to control packages that it did not install
So if pip is used inside of a conda environment
conda is unaware of the changes and may break the environment
Follow these tips from Johnathan Helmus when using pip and conda together:
The default behavior when creating apip virtual environment is that when inside the new environment
you do not have access to globally installed pip packages
you need to initialize your virtual environment with:
conda , on the other hand, lets you access global system packages by default. If you want the environment to be completely isolated from these global packages like with pip, you can create the conda environment based on a clone of an empty pip virtualenv
you should avoid installing global pip packages anyway so this shouldn’t be an issue
then the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable may point to the wrong location after installing CUDA inside of your conda environment
you will want to update LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to the directory containing cuda within conda when you enter your conda environment (generally that directory is /path/to/conda/pkgs/)
Then you’ll want to point it back to the system-wide install of CUDA when you leave the conda environment
navigate to your conda environment location and create the following files and folders:
In activate.d/env_vars.sh add the following lines
Substitute /your/path with the path to the installation of CUDA in your conda environment
Then add the following lines in deactivate.d/env_vars.sh:
Being able to install non-Python packages, like CUDA, in only a few commands with conda is a godsend. Using conda in conjunction with the FiftyOne model zoo means you can generate predictions from dozens of models in minutes
switching from pip virtual environments to conda environments can result in some unexpected behavior if you’re not prepared

Complete the following steps to downloading conda-build and conda-client using a separate stand-alone environment:

Run activate C:\envs\build-distribute to activate the environment
run conda update --all to make sure everything is up to date with the latest bug fixes and features
The active environment build-distribute is now ready to be used to build packages
You can get back to this environment in the future by starting the Python Command Prompt from the ArcGIS Pro Windows program group and running activate C:\envs\build-distribute
Use this environment for the Distribute with conda section below
Run the following and make sure they give a meaningful result from the command prompt:
anaconda Command line client (version 1.12.0)
complete Tutorial 1 above and ensure that all the packages you will need for building and distributing with conda are installed in the environment you will be using to build and upload packages
Complete the following steps to prepare the package:

The setup.py script sets several properties and directs the build utility to the package directory

The setup.py and readme.md files should be located in the mailbox directory. For more information on using setup(), see Packaging and distributing projects
Create the meta.yaml file and place it in the recipe folder
The meta.yaml file contains all the metadata for the build recipe
If the geoprocessing module has dependencies for additional packages
you can specify them under the run: group on the meta.yaml
This is how you can ensure that the package will work in the receiver’s Python environment. When conda installs the package, it will check the list of dependencies you specified and solve for these dependencies in the receiver’s Python environment. For more information on meta.yaml properties, see Defining metadata (meta.yaml)
Complete the following steps to build the package:
open the Python Command Prompt and activate the build-distribute environment
Change your directory to the postoffice directory:
💬 Note: The arcgispro package dependency is only available on the esri channel
The esri channel needs to be specified because otherwise conda only checks the default channel
Type conda info to see a list of channel URLs
💬 Note: Check the final output to make sure the build was successful
Note down the path to the parcel-1.0-py39_0.tar.bz2 file
1. If you don’t have an Anaconda account, create an account with anaconda.org
💬 Note: Log in using your anaconda.org credentials
Run anaconda upload C:\{your\path\to\parcel}.tar.bz2
💬 Note: Replace <your\path\to\parcel> with your own path noted from conda build
💬 Note: Check the output to make sure upload was successful
The output contains the location of the package on Anaconda Cloud
open a new Python Command Prompt and activate the environment you want to install the parcel package into
You cannot reuse the command prompt instance from the steps in the Distribute with conda section
That command prompt session should only be used to build and upload the distribution
Complete the following steps to install the hosted distribution:
Open the Python Command Prompt and make sure the conda environment that you want to install the site-package into is active
Do not install packages into the default Python environment for ArcGIS Pro
If you do not already have a clone of arcgispro-py3
you can create a clone and then activate the cloned environment using these commands on the Python Command Prompt:
conda create --clone arcgispro-py3 --name <new_environment_name> --pinned
conda activate <new_environment_name>
run conda install parcel -c <your_channel>
💬 Note: Replace <your_channel> with your channel name (in my case
Now you have installed the parcel package into the currently activated conda environment
The package can now be managed using standard conda commands such as conda uninstall parcel or conda update parcel
the Python environment where the custom package was installed must be activated in ArcGIS Pro
You can use the Python Command Prompt and run proswap <name_of_clone> to swap to your clone
proswap changes the environment of the command prompt and ArcGIS Pro (it will change next time you reopen ArcGIS Pro)
you can change the active environment from the Package Manager in ArcGIS Pro
Now that you have the parcel package installed and the environment is active
you can import the parcel package and run code from the envelope module
try running parcel.envelope.letter() after importing parcel
the geoprocessing module’s toolboxes will behave like system toolboxes
You can now search for the Read Your Letter tool in the Geoprocessing pane
you learned to distribute geoprocessing modules using Anaconda
the dependencies of the package will be solved when it is installed into your colleagues’ or clients’ environments
This removes the need to provide coworkers and clients with complicated instructions for installing package dependencies into cloned environments
use conda install <your_geoprocessing_module > and conda will take care of the rest

Max revealed that her mum died just prior to filming
Hannah Conda reacted to the episode and addressed the elimination

Environments contain the libraries needed to run project code
Developers can create multiple environments on the same machine
making it possible to maintain different environments for different projects
Package managers are used to distribute software libraries. Popular package managers include Conda
as I was able to install a large environment 10 times faster through mamba
I will show you how to obtain this speed up
Maintaining a software environment file ensures that code remains reproducible and can be executed on different platforms
A machine learning project should always include a list of required packages
If you give your model to another developer or ship it to a customer
they can replicate the environment locally
A sample environment file looks like this, taken from one of my git repositories at https://github.com/crlna16/ai4foodsecurity:
Package management systems can be used to create environments from files like this
There are a number of different ways to create environments and install packages in them
While pip is also a popular choice for maintaining Python environments
using conda or mamba has the advantage that they check for dependencies
Tensorflow 2.13.0 requires Python 3.8–3.11 as a dependency
If the user tries to install a non-compliant Python version
conda will warn the user about the inconsistency and refuse to install the package
Some packages are available through pip in a more recent version than through conda
it is possible to explicitly include pip packages in the environment definition
It can be very time consuming to debug mistakes and inconsistencies in an environment
and it is difficult to determine the correct version of the required packages after the fact
it is highly recommended that you maintain the environment description file with packages and version numbers
Conda [https://docs.conda.io/en/latest/] is a multi-platform package manager that runs on Windows, MacOS, and Linux. It is both a package manager, hosting software packages on central servers ready for download, and an environment manager. While most commonly used in the context of Python development, conda also works with other Programming languages
The main distribution channel for conda packages is https://repo.anaconda.com/, which contains more than 7,500 verified packages. Beyond that, the community oriented conda-forge [https://anaconda.org/conda-forge] contains more than 22,500 additional packages
to create a conda environment and install numpy
Especially if you have a large environment
it can take a long time to resolve the environment when installing additional packages
because instead of getting on with software development and machine learning experiments
have to wait half an hour for the environment to resolve itself
Mamba [https://mamba.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html] is a conda-compatible package manager that supports most of conda’s packages
The mamba command can be used as a drop-in replacement for conda in all commands
Packages from conda-forge are also available through mamba
To create an environment and install a package
Comparing the following commands on the same Linux system
I found different execution times for the conda and mamba package managers
The commands are shorthands that create the environment and install the numpy package in a single line of shell instructions
The -y flag is used so that packages are installed automatically without user confirmation
Installing numpy via mamba was 25% faster than installing it via conda
Let’s try to create a large environment by saving the environment definition file from above to env.yml and installing directly from there
Mamba is astonishingly 10 times faster at resolving this environment
Each time we install a new package in an environment
the environment manager must perform the following steps:
The step where conda typically spends a lot of time is in resolving the environment
The difference between the package managers here is that mamba leverages efficient C++ code and parallel processing to be faster than conda
The libsolv module used in mamba to resolve the dependencies and environment is also used in other places
mamba can perform parallel downloads instead of the conda sequential downloads
The libmamba solver combines the speed of mamba with the established brand of conda
It is activate by the following instructions:
We measure again the time it takes to install the complex environment from before:
libmamba used within conda was 50% faster than plain conda
but still the speed up is not comparable to the one achieved through mamba
Environment managers are critical for maintaining reproducible software environments during development and deployment
but it can become very slow with large environments
Mamba serves as a drop-in replacement for conda
By using efficient code and parallel processing
the installation of new packages is much faster than using conda
The libmamba solver claims to reach mamba-like speed within conda
Our test showed that mamba was 10 times faster in creating a large environment from scratch compared to conda
libmamba was 2 times faster than plain conda
next time you find yourself waiting for a long time for the conda environment to resolve
consider using mamba instead of spending a boring afternoon

having months before been dealing with some of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with in my life… I lost my mum

it’s been a really difficult period of time
It was almost like getting that phone call gave me something to focus on
That really spurred me on to want to fight for it and do my best
I felt like I succeeded on my first season
being there and being authentically myself
That’s what I wanted to do this time
a bit more self-assurance and better outfits
I saw nothing wrong in gaining that title at that period of time
I almost wear it as a badge of honour because now I’m like
‘I’m representing people who maybe don’t want to serve glitz and glamour all the time and want to march to the beat of their own drum.’ I will forever be queen of the nerds

it was my chance to showcase what Australian drag was a little bit more
There’s some things that the Down Under franchise hasn’t really got to showcase about what Australian and New Zealand drag is

and that we have the longest living culture in the whole entire world still in existence
so to put it on a global platform with a costume is really exciting and powerful

I believe it was Asia O’Hara when she was doing a Werq the World tour and people would ask her to step out of the photos
That is sometimes the brashness of the fandom that is just not needed and not acceptable anymore
I think some people really find joy in bringing us down
when all we’re trying to do is make a really fun TV show
If we didn’t have drama then they’d be like
We can enjoy the show for what it is without having to shit on somebody else
then I have the right to respond and defend myself
it’s talking to each other and challenging people’s perceptions of who you are
We’ve got enough attacks coming from outside of our bubble that we don’t need it coming from inside the house
Hannah: We’re so much better than that
Drag’s supposed to be joyful and fun
we get to be fabulous and make people laugh
it can be serious and make you feel different emotions
but one emotion we shouldn’t be feeling is sadness because of what people’s opinions of us are

You just don’t have to push it onto them or make them feel terrible because you don’t like them
Tia: It’s so easy to just go show love to your faves
rather than try and bring other people down
it’s very likely they’re gonna be able to see it
No one’s scrolling through the comments trying to make themselves upset
when you’re on a season with people who are going through the same thing
or might not be experiencing the same thing but can see what you’re going through
it is nice to support each other and feel supported
some of our cast have made me feel supported

Resolve the issue of extremely slow environment solving when using conda.If you’re using Anaconda to create a new virtual environment and have encountered an issue where the environment creation process stalls at the stage of Solving Environment or this stage runs for an extremely long time (e.g.
the following steps outline the journey toward a solution
To comprehend the factors contributing to the extended duration of the solving stage, I initially referred to a document on Conda Performance
The document provides a set of questions to consider when experiencing a slowdown:
I was in the process of creating a new virtual environment that contained pip-installed dependencies
I utilized both the anaconda and conda-forge channels and the packages are sourced from different channels
To validate whether the channel metadata is sane
indicating that the channel metadata appeared to be in order
I remained uncertain about whether the channels were interacting in undesirable ways
The document referenced earlier, together with the blog post titled Understanding and Improving Conda’s Performance
provides some suggested approaches to tackle the issue
Because of the large number of packages involved and the complexity of channel interactions
this particular method had not been tested at the time
I initially attempted to resolve the issue by adjusting the channel priority in the .condarc file
I placed smaller channels like defaults and anaconda before larger channels like conda-forge
this approach did not effectively address the problem and sometimes even resulted in failure during the solving stage
but the solving time remained excessively long
Here is an example of the configuration in the .condarc file
I opted to specify the version for each package explicitly
I used the format numpy==1.15.4 instead of numpy
this approach should expedite the solving stage by allowing Conda to narrow down the candidate options more efficiently
I observed that the solving stage took approximately 70 minutes to complete
To assess the reliability of this solution
the process concluded within approximately 15 minutes on certain machines
it became evident that this method does not provide a definitive resolution to the issue at hand
Despite following the aforementioned suggestions without achieving success
I decided to explore an alternative approach to address the issue
Based on a recommendation from a colleague
a C++ implementation of the Conda package manager
the environment creation process takes only a couple of minutes
Consequently, I started with install mamba by running (for Linux):
you may encounter a prompt asking whether to initialize conda
it is recommended to select “yes” for this option
This ensures that mamba can function properly alongside conda and avoids any potential conflicts between two package managers
Once the installation is completed successfully
the terminal will display the information as depicted in the screenshot below
you can verify the installation by typing mamba in the command prompt
In case you encounter an error stating Command ‘mamba’ not found even after restarting the terminal
it is advisable to check the conda section in your .bashrc file
Ensure that the path to conda.sh points to the mamba installation directory
as illustrated in the second screenshot below
I proceeded to create a new virtual environment using mamba
I executed the command mamba env create -f environment.yaml --prefix $(pwd) to create the environment using the specifications provided in the environmental.yaml file
with the environment located in the current directory
Although the issue was ultimately resolved
a new concern emerged due to the need to use mamba instead of conda for creating the environment
This raised a potential challenge since there are numerous instances in our project where conda is utilized for configuring environment setup and deployment
there is good news: mamba and conda commands are interchangeable to some extent
This means that we can still use conda to interact with the environment created by mamba
it is great that our team does not have to refactor any of the existing processes
except for the specific step involving environment creation
This means that we can seamlessly integrate the use of mamba for creating environments without disrupting the rest of our workflow

That's how I felt during Tuesday night's elimination on "The Biggest Loser," and I shouldn't even be making a Chinese food joke because the buffet temptation turned out to be completely irrelevant
let me say one more thing about it before getting to the shocking Week 3 results
we saw Emily shoving fortune cookies into teammate Cassandra's mouth
helping Black secure a two-pound advantage at the weigh-in
I WISH somebody on the Red team had done the same to Conda
because maybe we would've had to endure a little less snottiness and complaining and -- this is the worst part
given the theme of the season -- excuse-making
Conda managed to squawk her way into the role of Season 13 Villain
which is pretty significant considering somebody up and walked off the ranch this week and somebody else offered to go home in Week 1
Conda called the Black team's Cassandra a cheater when Cassandra won their burpee face-off in the gym
then failed to back up her bravado by losing to Cassandra AGAIN in their rope-ladder rematch
securing a Black team win and sending Red back to elimination for the second straight week
And instead of being humble about her poor performance
I believe she called his assessment of her "a joke."
"Who's Lauren?" Even if you didn't know her name
I'll guarantee you were not expecting to see it written under five of the Red team's eight silver trays at the elimination table
Given Lauren's pleasant demeanor and drama-free stint on the show so far
Thus the feeling I'd been slapped in the face with spicy chicken
Lauren only lost 3 pounds and was obliterated by Jeremy
this week the show pitted one member from each team against each other
and whoever lost the highest percentage of weight scored a point for his/her team
Cassandra -- of course -- and Cassandra's win made it Black 5
Black didn't even need the two extra pounds from the temptation
Red only won two face-offs (Roy and Mark) but scored one free point because Joe quit the show
Conda emanates drama and bad attitude the way Sweet & Sour Pork emanates deliciousness
So what unholy alliance has she struck with her teammates that they'd choose to keep her over Lauren
Somebody read the fortune cookie and drop some Confucius on me
Red's reasoning was that Lauren was "an athlete" (which she is -- half marathon, baby!) and had "fewer distractions" at home. And while they didn't say anything about Conda, who didn't even get ONE elimination vote, we all know she's a single mom
as long as you have distractions to deal with in your personal life
The theme of the season is "No Excuses." Let's forget about having kids at home
The simple fact Conda couldn't accept losing to Cassandra and had to play the "cheater" card should have earned her the boot
The simple fact she couldn't stand there and take her medicine from Dolvett at the weigh-in should have sealed her fate
Joe hung around just long enough for the Chinese buffet before deciding to hit the road
and I feel like if the Black team was going to decide to eat -- which was the point of the temptation; the team that consumed the most would get weigh-in advantage and the power to choose match-ups -- he should have gotten his money's worth
He clearly didn't decide he missed his family after walking out of that room full of food
Why didn't he just go ahead and get his Crab Rangoon on for one last hoorah
That certainly wouldn't have made the viewers any more angry with him
I think it's pretty obvious the Aqua team will be coming back to the ranch
We've seen updates on them in both of the last two episodes
and Adrian ("Ascot Man," as I call him) looks like he's lost the required 50 pounds all by himself

the M1 chip boasts significantly higher single- and multi-thread performance over its Intel predecessors

Like many new technologies released by Apple
it often takes some time for the industry to catch up
While we wait for developers to release native support for many of the dependencies we rely on
Apple have released Rosetta to support software that is still based on x86_64 architecture
it is still common to encounter compatibility issues with our Python environments
this blog details the configuration steps I have taken to set up my Python environments on M1 Apple Silicon
you will have learned how to configure Python to use arm64 or x86_64 based dependencies
we will be setting up our Python environment for tensorflow-macos as tensorflow-macos is only executable in arm64 Python environments
the process detailed here will allow you to install Python packages for both arm64 and x86_64 environments
There are two specific dependencies that we will need to install first
first open a terminal session by going to Applications > Utilities > Terminal
Do note Xcode installation may take a while to install
Next, we will be installing Miniforge3. Miniforge3 is the community (Conda-forge) driven minimalistic conda installer
Miniforge3 has native support for arm64 based architectures which is definitely advantageous
Ensure that you select arm64 (Apple Silicon) architecture
GitHub – conda-forge/miniforge: A conda-forge distribution.
you may need to enable execution of the shell script with:
Work through the prompts and this will install conda on your machine
We can confirm if we have an installation of conda by using the command:
we can proceed with configuring conda for arm64 or x86_64 Python environments
We will begin by adding some shortcuts to the current shell to facilitate the process of installing different conda environments
The snippet of code below will add two shortcut functions that will create either an osx-64 or osx-arm64 conda environment where we can install Python packages
add the following code to ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc
One of the features of Miniforge3 is the ability to define processor specific sub-directories for specific Python environments
conda will be instructed to install packages from x86_64 (osx-64) specific sub-directories
This will enable users to create an environment that installs arm64 or x86_64 (osx-64) Python packages depending on the value defined by CONDA_SUBDIR
Let’s install two distinct environment using the shortcut previously created
one based on x86_64 (osx-64) and the other arm64 (osx-arm64)
Create a Python 3.9.13 osx-64(x86_64) environment with the name env_x86:
Alternatively if you chose not to use a shortcut
you can use the command to achieve the same result as above:
Create a Python 3.9.13 osx-arm64(arm64) environment with the name tensorflow_ARM with the shortcut:
Executing the steps above will install two Python environments using either x86_64 (osx-64) or arm64 (osx-arm64)
It is possible to seamlessly switch between these two environments by activating the specific environment with:
Let’s verify that an arm64 environment was installed
tensorflow-macos can only be executed in arm64 Python environments
Note: tensorflow will not work in x86_64 Python environments
Let’s verify that the tensorflow installation has worked
One of the most common issue that you may face when installing tensorflow is the error:
This error is caused by installing tensorflow-macos on the wrong conda environment
Ensure you have installed tensoflow-macos on an arm64 conda environment
Managing Python dependencies has always been difficult. The release of the M1 chip has only added an extra layer of complexity
workarounds such as the methods detailed in this blog will have to suffice
Hopefully the instructions detailed in this blog have made it easier to manage Python dependencies on your new M1 MacBook

The original version of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which began in the US in 2009, has been going strong for 16 seasons, spawning countless spinoffs around the world. Each season, RuPaul invites between 10 and 14 drag queens to compete in multiple categories, such as acting, dancing, fashion design and stand-up, before crowning the winning queen. The Emmy-award winning reality show has made global stars out of its contestants
including Trixie Mattel and Bob the Drag Queen

“I believe Australian drag has been overlooked for a while,” says Collins
“We got a bit of a bad rap in the early part of our seasons … My goal was to give people a more well-rounded idea of what drag is in Australia and New Zealand.”
This rocky start arguably fostered a relatively one-sided perception among international Drag Race fans of the Australian drag scene, which Collins says is ultimately rich in diversity
he decided to bring Australia’s history to the runway

Collins co-created the outfit with Aboriginal designer and Marrithiyel man Paul McCann
and says he owed much of its success to his collaborator

“That’s how we’ve formed a lot of what we do with drag here

that feat was reflected at the 46th edition of the CONDAs at Newcastle’s Town Hall on Saturday 14 December
Affectionately dubbed “Theatre Christmas,” the evening brought together the Hunter’s finest talent
with The Very Popular Theatre Company and HER Productions the shining lights
The former emerged as a big winner on the night
with its spectacular production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins
Excellence by a Choreographer (Rachel Stark) and Excellence by a Director – Musical (Daniel Stoddart)
HER Productions also took home three awards for Romeo & Juliet: A Reimagining

opening Conda up to a torrent of homophobic abuse from PPM’s followers

Conda told them of the distress it had caused
saying that it felt like they were “ripping us (the LGBTQ community) to shreds.”
And all of the abuse caused Hannah Conda’s father
He initially wrote on PPM’s Facebook page
but she deleted the comment and blocked Collins
causing him to write out what he said on his timeline
“You really are a piece of work Political Posting Mumma
you continue to allow nasty and inflammatory posts that fuel hurtful commentary about an individual and a wonderful program within a community
a community that you really know nothing about,” he wrote
He then said: “If I may refer to a saying my Grandmother used to say about people like you; “they’d cause trouble in an empty shithouse”.”

someone who professes and promotes Christian and family values do not act as such

Shea Coulee and Farrah Moan were called “slut”
“faggot” and “walking STD’s” by a group of unidentified females in a video uploaded to SnapChat
Moan responded to the abuse saying: “We’re touring the world being gay while you’re living in Newcastle with your crusty ass eyelashes.”
