Metrics details The Gulf of Aqaba transform plate boundary is a source of destructive teleseismic earthquakes Seismicity is concentrated in the central sub-basin and decreases to both the north and south Although principally a strike-slip plate boundary the faulted margins of the Gulf display largely dip-slip extensional movement and accompanying footwall uplift We have constrained rates of this uplift by measurements of elevated Pleistocene coral terraces In particular the terrace that formed during the last interglacial (~125 ka) is found discontinuously along the length of the Gulf at elevations of 3 to 26 m Global sea level was ~7 m higher than today at 125 ka indicating net maximum tectonic uplift of ~19 m with an average rate of ~0.015 cm/yr Uplift has been greatest adjacent to the central sub-basin and like the seismicity decreases to the north and south We suggest that the present pattern of a seismically active central region linked to more aseismic areas in the north and south has therefore persisted for at least the past 125 kyr Consequently the potential for future destructive earthquakes in the central Gulf is greater than in the sub-basins to the north and south HD = Hume Deep; TD = Tiran Deep; DD = Dakar Deep; AD = Arnona Deep; ARD = Aragonese Deep; ED = Elat Deep; TI = Tiran Island Prior to this at ~50 ka there was a strong clustering of M ≥ 7 earthquakes with the recurrence interval then increasing logarithmically to its present value of ~11 kyr Similar datasets are not available for the Gulf of Aqaba Examples of the Plio-Pleistocene exposures described in this study near Haql, Saudi Arabia (station 6 in Figs 3 and 4) (a) Extensional faults cutting partially lithified sandstone and conglomerate stratigraphically beneath the Pleistocene terraces of the coastal region (b) Last interglacial (Marine Isotope Substage 5e) coral terrace Terrace is approximately 17 m above sea level at this location Younger small-scale faults are also observed within different levels of the Pleistocene coral terraces themselves. Abundant faulting at our Station 16 (Fig. 4) does not preserve any true kinematic markers but if pure-dip slip is assumed then they would also indicate E-W extension The standard deviation for these averages reflects the rugosity of the terrace surface itself and not the accuracy of the LIDAR measurement No corrections for tidal variations were made as the Gulf of Aqaba is a micro-tidal environment and tide charts are not readily available for all locations along the coast The tidal range at the north end of the Gulf at Elat and Taba is usually about 90 cm Similar assumptions were made by previous workers in this basin and other parts of the Red Sea system This does add an additional uncertainty regarding each specific site elevation but the robustness of our dataset helps ameliorate this and we focus here on overall trends within the dataset Uncertainties in these elevation measurements were not reported Material for Uranium-series dating was collected from each of the 27 raised Pleistocene coral terrace sites and analyzed at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (Gif-sur-Yvette coral and botryoidal aragonite samples were collected at different levels (from the base to the top) corresponding to different reef facies (i.e We can therefore confidently include all 27 sites within our analysis of uplift during the past 125 kyr Terraces at elevations higher than those of the MIS5e were also measured and dated These are much less continuous laterally than the MIS5e and display much more severe diagenetic alteration These attributes make them readily discernible from the MIS5e terraces in the field Taking a maximum terrace elevation of ~26 m this yields a tectonic uplift of 19 m and an average uplift rate of 0.015 cm/yr for the past 125 kyr These strike-slip faults indicate that at some time in the past strike-slip faulting was distributed across a broader region than is occurring in the present deformation field We therefore decrease our net tectonic uplift by 100 m to 1.7 km to cover the more extreme scenario Using the range of initiation ages for the Gulf of Aqaba faulting (14–11 Ma) uplift rates of 0.012–0.016 cm/yr are obtained Strike-slip faults are accomplishing the dominant relative plate motion but they are spatially associated with extensional faults that drive local uplift Because present-day seismicity is focused where uplift is greatest we suggest that high levels of seismic activity have been focused in this region for at least the past 125 kyr and perhaps since strike-slip initiation at 14–11 Ma and the Ben-Avraham-Zoback model is probably applicable to the entire Gulf of Aqaba – Dead Sea transform segment This study reported a prominent P and S high-velocity anomaly beneath the Red Sea from depths of 10 to 40 km A more localized high-velocity anomaly occurs at 10 km depth beneath the Arnona-Aragonese Deep and the areas immediately east in Arabia In the northern and southern Gulf of Aqaba the velocities are much slower This implies that it is the shallow crust of the Arnona-Aragonese Deep that most closely resembles that of the northern Red Sea Why seismicity and footwall uplift decrease to the north in the Gulf of Aqaba is also not clear The long-term slip rates in the northern Gulf of Aqaba and Arava Valley must match those to the north and south as there are no known intersecting strike-slip fault splays in this region The earthquake recurrence interval for this section of the transform boundary may be much different than that of the central Gulf of Aqaba and perhaps our instrumental record is simply too short to adequately portray the true longer-term seismic picture Geodetic constraints on the geodynamic evolution of the Red sea woman to the floor out of anger in May the incident happened on May 9 at the home of suspect Tamara Sabin Bowen located in the 6300 block of Southwest 24th Street in the unincorporated Coral Terrace area Authorities said Bowen was getting the woman ready to shower in the bathroom and “became upset because the victim kept calling her name and trying to get her attention.” causing her to fall to the floor and hit her head on the shower door rail.” “The victim began bleeding from her head,” police wrote in an arrest report called an Uber and took her to Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami which doesn’t specify whether Bowen and the victim are related states the victim required “several staples on her head.” Police said they took Bowen into custody on Thursday where she invoked her right to remain silent she was being held on a $3,500 bond on charges of aggravated abuse of an elderly or disabled adult and battery Cape Coral’s experts in economic development delivered an update to City Council this past Wednesday as it pertains to key economic indicators Economic Business Director Sharon Woodberry started her presentation by sharing Cape Coral unemployment rates which is right on par with Lee County as a whole When it comes to vacancy rates in the city These rates are lower than other cities in Southwest Florida and throughout the state Rents in the city are averaging $25 per square foot which Woodberry said is an uptick from years past there has been an increase of that number of 15-and-a-half percent compared to 16% in the wider Fort Myers market,” she said The city has just under 10 million square feet of retail space with roughly 87,000 square feet under construction the current 2.2% vacancy rate has increased 1.2% over the last year compared to 5% in the broader Fort Myers market Rents are sitting around $13.60 per square foot which is a 7% uptick from a year ago and a 30.6% increase over three years About 110,000 square feet is under construction representing a 2.9% expansion of inventory Commercial projects currently in permitting/under construction include: • Terrace Village Market: Located at 1482 Southwest 6th Terrace • Island Pearl: Located at 723 Southwest 32nd Place • Lucky’s 13 Restaurant: Located at 3902 Del Prado Blvd Will be adding a 3,500-foot addition that will include indoor and outdoor seating Pub will have seating for up to 300 guests • Slip Away Food Truck Park: Located at 1811 Cape Coral Parkway E. will offer food trucks and marina shop with boat slips • Tiki Tails Dog Resort: Located at 4420 Southeast 16th Place of commercial retail and dining space and 125,000 square feet of leasable office space “(It’s) another one of our projects that we have slated for our project priority,” Woodberry said “And in helping to keep those projects moving forward and facilitate permitting and assistance as needed Updates are that they provided us with progress drawings They’re receiving feedback from different staff on the percentages as they move forward with those drawings.” and the town center starting in Q2 of 2025 Updates also came in on 7 Islands – Gulf Gateway Resort Architects are under contract for all island structures The Army Corps of Engineer application was submitted in January The city anticipates 18 to 24 months for the application review period Woodberry said a traffic impact study is being procured and that the Southwest Florida Water Management District application is in progress with the anticipation for a June of 2025 issuance Woodberry said there are building permits in review for the medical and outpatient space The project includes a waterfront restaurant nearly 50,000 square feet of retail and professional space “They’re 16 percent complete with construction of the mixed-use multi-family structure,” Woodberry said The city continues to have monthly meetings via its business and industry roundtable discussions with various entities and realms of business in the city “We’ve gotten great responses from restaurants and different businesses as well as industrial,” Woodberry said We’re getting good feedback and trying to identify some takeaways for things that we can execute as far as input from our businesses.” Regarding the city’s Economic Development Strategic Plan goes the EDO is examining tourism opportunities looking at infrastructure and land use analysis The lead consultant on the plan is DCG Corplan Consulting The project completion is expected in August of 2024 for the plan To reach CJ HADDAD, please email cjhaddad@breezenewspapers.com Copyright © Cape Coral bring something unique to this area,” said PRIDE Cape Coral Board Member Melissa Moore and being proud of who you are no matter where you come from.” The parade starts at Southeast 47th Terrace and Vincennes Boulevard and works its way down the street to Southeast 9th Place Parade participants include local businesses and organizations which are encouraged to build floats or march with a team This year’s grand marshal and headline act is Trinity Taylor who was featured on “Ru Paul’s Drag Race.” star of the original “Queer Eye,” who will deliver a special performance during the parade and take the stage later in the evening Additional entertainment includes DJ Mad Mel and performances from local and national drag entertainers The festival will include a vendor village — the largest one yet at a PRIDE event in the Cape — as well as a performance by “Collaboration Band” from 3 to 4:15 p.m Moore said the event is often misunderstood by the community and that its purpose is simply to bring equality and people of all different walks of life together “We want people to celebrate people being themselves,” Moore said “Oftentimes events like this can put a bad taste in some people’s mouths but I think it’s just due to the lack of understanding of what our message is.” though there are VIP and meet-and-greet opportunities at a cost Individuals of all ages are welcomed and there will be family-friendly activities though some performances may contain mature themes Moore said inclusion for all is incredibly important in Southwest Florida and that PRIDE Cape Coral has grown to be an event for the LGBTQ+ community across the region “Being a part of this organization has really opened my eyes to see and experience a community that I’ve never been fully immersed with in the past,” said Moore “It’s been such an eye-opening experience to witness first-hand the beauty that comes from the community and the people in it It’s just a positive and beautiful community “I don’t understand why people being themselves and being happy The PRIDE VIP experience includes private seating and cocktails tables prime stage access and VIP meet and greet with the entertainers PRIDE Cape Coral will offer an evening full of fun and live entertainment The main stage will be located on Southeast 10th Place “It’s a blast,” Moore said “We have various entertainers that will perform and it’s an array of entertainment from those that are local So many people from other areas know about Cape Coral and our PRIDE event It’s really rewarding to be a part of this and continue to allow our community to experience diversity and inclusion and just all-around support for everyone in our community.” brunch will be provided by Cruisers Lounge with the event located at the corner of Southeast 47th Terrace and Southeast 10th Place Brunch features a special performance by Rodriguez “It’s such a heartwarming event to see people that sometimes feel like they can’t openly celebrate their individuality and who they are — to see them have the opportunity to live out loud and be themselves and enjoy it with other like minded people… it’s just a diverse experience and really enjoyable,” Moore said Organizers hope all who feel they don’t always have the chance to be their true self “This event really is a no judgment zone,” Moore said “Everyone is there to celebrate and be themselves and really embrace who they are and support each other It’s an opportunity that’s very seldom in the day-to-day lives of many of the people that are a part of this community so we encourage them to come out and experience it and get to live their life the way that they want to and with other people who are choosing to do the same.” For more information, a full lineup of entertainment, and to María Elvira Salazar, a decorated former TV journalist, is defending against state Sen. Annette Taddeo, a small business owner who made history in 2017 as the first Latina Democrat to win a seat in the chamber Both have roots in Latin American countries overrun by Marxist oppressors West Miami and a slew of unincorporated neighborhoods compose CD 27 The district has alternated blue and red since longtime Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen retired in January 2019 It remains the most closely divided congressional district in South Florida the highest percentage for the voting age population anywhere in the state Both candidates performed strongly in the Aug Salazar took 81% of the vote against a lone opponent while Taddeo knocked off two adversaries with 68% of ballots cast in her favor Salazar was born in Miami to Cuban expatriates who escaped Fidel Castro’s communist regime while Taddeo fled Colombia as a teenager to escape communist terrorism produced an ad painting Taddeo in a similar light for participating in an April 2018 panel discussion on expanding health care access alongside several other local politicians and groups including the Miami chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America entered politics in 2018 to succeed Ros-Lehtinen but lost that year to Democrat Donna Shalala a former cabinet member in President Bill Clinton’s administration Fighting “leaders in Congress on the left (who) want to implement socialism in this country” is the top platform issue listed on her website establishing term limits for federally elected officials environmental protection and broadening access to education Taddeo, 55, leaned into her personal story this election cycle she underwent 19 surgeries to correct a cleft lip she fled to America — first to Alabama — after the Marxist guerilla group FARC kidnapped her father For nearly 30 years, she’s run LanguageSpeak a Miami-based translation services company when she unsuccessfully tried to unseat Ros-Lehtinen a moderate Republican with some liberal leanings She also ran as former Gov. Charlie Crist’s running mate during the 2014 gubernatorial race. She ran this year against Crist and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried in the Democratic Primary for the Governor until June, when she switched to the CD 27 contest Her platform this election prioritizes access to affordable education and health care supporting measures to improve Florida’s water cleanliness protecting the environment and strengthening American democracy After reports arose of a voter registration scam in which Spanish-speaking Miami residents were tricked into switching their party affiliation from Democratic to Republican Taddeo led an effort to determine who was responsible She later convinced her Republican colleagues in Tallahassee to include language raising financial penalties for organizations whose employees alter voting registration forms without a person’s knowledge in legislation that will go into effect next year Taddeo has also been unafraid to criticize her own party at the local and federal levels. In February, she and Republican Miami Sen. Ileana Garcia teamed up to lead the Senate in opposing Biden’s removal of FARC from the U.S The vote cost her with the National Rifle Association, which gave her a “D” rating in September the lowest ranking the organization gave any member of the GOP The following month, she was among six Florida Republican members of Congress to vote for the Respect for Marriage Act to preserve national marriage equality She also earned praise for supporting a bipartisan resolution reinstating federal limits on methane emissions from oil and gas producers Her signature bill is the Dignity Act a 532-page package that would create a pathway to citizenship for migrants living in the country illegally The measure would create multiple programs through which undocumented residents can stay and work in the U.S The money collected would fund retraining programs for U.S workers and strengthen the southern border The bill has yet to gain any traction in the House which included a $12 million set-aside for DeSantis’ migrant-relocation program the authorizing language specified the funds were for moving migrants out of Florida Salazar also has perpetuated Trump’s false narrative there was systemic voter fraud in the 2020 election. Speaking on Miami station Radio Mambi on Jan. 11, 2021, she referenced a widely discredited conspiracy theory involving voter discrepancies in Pennsylvania Two years after Americans elected Biden as President, there is still no evidence of voter fraud widespread or systemic enough to have swayed the outcome of the election Taddeo raised $1.6 million and spent all but $45,000 of it by the beginning of November. Outside PACs provided assists, including actress Eva Longoria’s progressive PAC, Latino Victory Fund a PAC targeting vulnerable Republicans across the country Salazar carries into Election Day endorsements from most of her Republican peers in Congress, as well as nods from DeSantis the South Florida Council of Firefighters and National Association of Police Organizations Taddeo, meanwhile, has the backing of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Leader Steny Hoyer Eric Swalwell and Debbie Wasserman Schultz Her most newsworthy endorsement came from former Florida GOP Chair Al Cárdenas on Oct He said it was the first time in four decades he was backing a Democrat for Congress that’s now a precondition for supporting anyone running for office: Is your country more important than your particular career Jesse Scheckner has covered South Florida with a focus on Miami-Dade County since 2012. The piece is inspired by a memory: the time she dropped a crayon on the floor and saw it spinning then kept spinning it and spinning it and then started spinning herself she says the colors she chose for her piece -- dark blue and light purple -- are the same colors as the crayons in that memory Lineth is one of  more than 1,000 Miami-Dade students who participated in a series of art workshops in late February and early March called the "Scrollathon."  The Scrollathon was hosted by William and Steven Ladd, two artist-brothers from New York who helped the elementary school students create "scrolls" -- ornaments made by coiling colorful fabric belts into circles and also created one that will go with other students' scrolls into a collaborative piece in an exhibit The scrolls are simple; they take the kids maybe two minutes to create But the underlying goal of the workshop is much more complex The Ladds are trying to teach the kids to develop personal values "They can do and be anything they want in their life but they're going to have to work really hard," William says That's why in their workshops he and Steven talk about personal values like self-discipline the Ladds teach personal values through comedy Their high-energy shtick varies with each workshop -- the ones at Coral Terrace featured the jingle from a barbecue sauce commercial the noises of Steven and William's spirit animals and a lot of high-pitched angelic choruses among other things -- but the plot points are consistent The brothers warm the kids up with some goofiness have them define "collaborate" and "value," talk about their own personal values a 45-minute 'you're going to listen to me' class with these kids," William says "You have to go from a performance to the definition of collaboration and then have them all repeat it to a performance to the definition of values to sharing our values back to some funny story about and get their crazy out and then to come back and be focused in." the Ladds admit the kids might not retain or understand all of their message about the importance of values they say childhood memories play an important role in developing values later on in life They cite memories of their mother's encouragement their father's work ethic and their shared experiences at Mary Queen of the Universe Elementary School in St Louis as the basis for the personal and artistic values they have today That's why they help kids like Lineth Mardomingo create art that's linked to memories and values "You never know if it's going to sink in or not," says Steven "But we're setting up an environment where there's a possibility of it sinking in." "In 10 years they might look back and be like those guys were teaching me about those values and I didn't think about it again until now.' And that might be happening at any point throughout the rest of their life." the kids are mostly just having fun creating the scrolls William and Steven say that for them that's a dream come true Some of the scrolls created by Miami-Dade students will be included in a piece in the Ladds' exhibit at the Miami-Dade College Museum of Art + Design "Mary Queen of the Universe," is open through March 27 Cape Coral police were investigating a shooting that injured one person Wednesday morning in the 1900 block of SE Van Loon Terrace Cape Coral police confirmed that the victim was transported to Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers for the injury who said they were developing suspect information At least a half-dozen pock-marks and holes made by bullets in the front façade and windows of the home could be seen.  Reports of the shooting were made around 3 a.m More: Cape Coral woman faces aggravated assault charge after allegedly shooting person at house More: Trial begins for one of five charged in the Club Blu shooting: Kierra Kashayla Russ Connect with breaking news reporter Michael Braun: MichaelBraunNP (Facebook)@MichaelBraunNP (Twitter) or mbraun@news-press.com.  We'll have a refreshed video for 2024 once houses are lit Address: 600 Coralview Terrace, Midlothian Be sure to check out this house in the Walton Park neighborhood, near Dawnridge Court's popular Christmas Court "Christmas on Coralview" features moving Christmas lights set to music they've added singing Christmas tree faces "This will be our 6th year on the Tacky Light Tour and every year we continue to make the display just a little bit brighter for all to enjoy and money every year doing this?' More: Cape Coral's SE 47th Terrace streetscape project to be complete in early January Crews experienced unforeseen underground utility issues during construction causing the contractor to bring on additional workers in hopes of staying on track with the goal of completing the project by the end of 2018 Szerlag said the city agreed to push back some of the final road paving work to January 2019 to not interfere with businesses' holiday activity Some businesses along the street felt the strain of construction in the past year as owners and employees complained about dust road closures and lost revenue.  an employee of Donna's Book Stop Paperback said she wasn't sure if the store would make it through construction Donna's was closed an extra two days each week for about a month and closed earlier other days while crews worked in front of the store She said that although business is back to normal now she doesn't know if the store will be able to make up the revenue it lost during construction "I'd like to know how much everybody lost." She said it was difficult for the store's customers to figure out how to access the store and that there were no signs posted to let customers know where they could park.  "(The city) said storefronts were always going to be accessible to customers adding that it was still a hassle to access the temporary metal bridges crews installed during construction.  founder of Ciao Wood Fired Pizza & Trattoria said their revenue was down about half for what is usually their busiest month of the year last year She and her husband had to dip into their savings to pay staff More: Council to weigh allowing more multifamily housing in southwest Cape Coral She said the restaurant is back to being busy again but that last year's revenue was "an unfortunate loss." One of the biggest issues now is parking confusion since there is no more on-street parking in front of the restaurant though she worries about safety with the narrower roadways.  especially at our end (of the street)," Bacus said "Our end was visibly closed for more than eight months a 30-year Cape resident and owner of Cork Soakers Deck & Wine Bar said he bought the business in September and the early days of Cape Coral the Gulf American Land Corp. kept a small fleet of Cessnas for giving potential lot buyers aerial tours of the raw development There are a few interesting stories in connection with this airstrip the developer of nearby Coral Point filed a lawsuit against GALC to shut down the airstrip claiming that the hundreds of landings and takeoffs every week were hurting sales and that the use of the street for an airstrip was a violation of agricultural zoning ordinations the lawsuit was retaliation for a suit brought by GALC against the developer for copyright infringement in the use of “Coral” in its name Seems the president of the corporation and one of its officers (a former GALC sales pilot) had been using the airstrip to take their own prospective buyers up and that the GALC had ordered them to keep off Coral Point petitioned the county zoning board for permission to build an airport directly across Del Prado from the GALC airstrip according to pioneer Andy Anderson’s grandson kids — Elmer and his friends — would lie down on the GALC airstrip to prevent the planes from landing got a call from a guy at Tamiami Freightways in Fort Myers A the next two years with two apartment complex projects totaling at least $114 million in construction costs in the planning stages The City of Cape Coral has promised a combined $17 million in tax rebate incentives for the two projects which were dubbed “Project Dolphin” and “Project Hoosier” but will be getting new “This is going to change the face of Cape Coral Parkway,” said Ricardo Noguera manager of the city’s Economic Development Office “I expect more developers will come in This will be a catalyst for attracting more developers to the south Cape it’s key to the revitalization of the south Cape It’s going to provide more parking to benefit businesses in the area.” Each apartment project will have a different ownership and management groups I almost always write about these projects after the land has been sold That’s not the case in either instance here Although it’s not ideal for this to be playing out on the pages of a newspaper it became a public record when the city announced the tax incentives two weeks ago for the projects The city came up with this as a preliminary name It’s likely to be called Bimini West Roers also developed and owns the Cape at Savona a 320-unit apartment complex off Savona Parkway Bimini West will be on the south side of the parkway where the main road intersects with Tudor Court 25,000 square feet of commercial space and a 5,500-square-foot waterfront restaurant that will overlook the Bimini Basin which is connected to the Cape Coral canal system This will be at least a $50 million project with $7 million in tax rebate incentives over 13 years The success of the Savona project had Nygard further scouting an additional Cape Coral location “That’s been a really good project for us,” Nygard said of Savona “It’s outperformed our expectations But there’s always room for competition “This Bimini project I’ve been working on is pretty unique You’ve got the view of Bimini Basin and the Bimini Canal which means there will be some commercial involved the waterfront restaurant is going to be a highlight of the south Cape I see it being an extension of maybe some restaurants that are local to the area or at least the operators are familiar with the area We’re still working hard to put all the pieces together.” but it’s under contract as Roers awaits a closing date “We would hope to start construction in 2022,” Nygard said “It will take us about 18 months to construct “We’re announcing the project slightly before I wanted to The city wanted to make sure the public had a chance to opine on it early on We’re going to have a lot more information in 90 days as those plans get finalized I think the combination of these two projects happening in the relatively same time frame helps the city do what they need to do on the municipal side.” Nygard said his company is reacting to the influx of new Florida residents “I am no different than the 1,000 people a day moving to Florida,” Nygard said “Everything that attracts other people to Florida attracted me to Florida I decided I’ve got to do something in Florida We’ve done several thousand units in Fargo We have a big track record of doing commercial developments up here.” but he wouldn’t be surprised for some of the units to rent for $2,500 a month “This will be new to Cape Coral,” Nygard said “You can’t find what I’m talking about in the city right now Other communities in Florida have projects like this.” In the Know: Riverdale getting new Publix as nearby residential growth surges Cape Coral bank, car wash to be demolished to make way for Downtown Village Square Temporarily named “Project Hoosier” because the developer this will be called “The Cape at 47th.” as the 287-unit apartment complex will be built between SE 9th Place and SE 8th Court on the east and west and 47th Street Terrace will be to the north This development will include a 525-space parking garage with 125 of those spots designated for public parking That area of Cape Coral has been short on parking for years which is why the city will be granting the $64 million construction project with about $10 million in immediate tax rebate incentives “We want it to be a destination,” said Brian Prince II vice president of development for Flaherty and Collins “We want it to not just be a suburban apartment complex This is going to be an entertainment center Most of the land on which this is proposed has been owned by Village Square LLC since 2006 Robbie Lee of that group had torn down a bank and a car wash in December 2019 He had a timeline to develop and was ready to raise $66.5 million of what had been projected to be a $130 million project an eight-story high-rise with offices and commercial integrated into it Lee had a timeline that included breaking ground on a 58,000-square-foot office building in July 2020 the coronavirus pandemic wiped out that timeline setting the stage for another group to inquire about acquiring the land “It just was not a feasible product in this market,” said Paulette Ducharme a broker with Miloff Aubuchon Realty Group She projected the deal to close in mid-July “They’ve got to put plans together,” Ducharme said “Normally these will close when they are submitting their permits This complex will have about 20,000 square feet of commercial “We’ve been trying to get control of this site for the past four or five years,” Prince said “We’ve gone in and had all of our approvals as far as the incentives being provided We’ve secured the financing from our lenders The city has been very flexible from a zoning perspective to allow the density This is very different from everything in Cape Coral There are several other sites we’re looking for in Cape Coral to do even more development.” Prince’s company has developed about 17,000 apartment units in 16 states now Prince said he hoped construction would begin in early 2022 with a projected opening in mid-2023 Prince and Nygard mutually agreed that having different competing apartment projects less than half a mile from one another would be a good thing “Having them down the road just adds to the vibrancy of Cape Coral,” Prince said The Germany-based
