KALISPELL, Mont. — A majority of the dogs involved in an animal cruelty case from Coram are looking for a place to call home
The Flathead County Animal Shelter named all the dogs from the animal cruelty case by city names
The shelter does animal showings and adoptions by appointments only
We’ve been holding onto for 47 days now,” said Austin Hicks
division manager for the Flathead County Animal Shelter
“We had 28 of them surrender to the county this week so those are now getting through the vet process and will be coming up for adoption.”
Officials say the animals are comfortable with other dogs
the shelter has a meet and great room for potential owners looking to meet with them

Candy Jean Evans was charged with a felony count of aggravated animal cruelty after authorities seized more than two dozen malnourished dogs
overwhelming the Flathead County Animal Shelter
A 55-year-old Coram woman accused of neglecting more than two dozen dogs that resulted in malnourishment and disease at her residence has been charged with a felony count of aggravated animal cruelty in Flathead County District Court
Candy Jean Evans was booked in the Flathead County Detention Center on March 13 after deputies seized 27 live dogs from the property
A deceased puppy was removed from a trash container inside the house
The defendant faces a maximum sentence of two years with the Montana Department of Corrections and a maximum fine of $2,500

the dogs were transported to the Flathead County Animal Shelter (FCAS) where staff has been working to care for the animals
all of which are malnourished and suffering from illness
16 adoptable dogs that were already in the shelter’s care have been transported to other facilities across the state
including the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter
Despite the assistance from other shelters
the FCAS remains responsible for the care of the 27 dogs involved in the case in addition to 10 adoptable dogs that were already under their care
Due to the high volume of animals in the shelter
the facility is not accepting owner surrenders
According to a sworn affidavit filed March 17
when an animal control officer was dispatched to Evans’ residence in Coram for a complaint about people shooting at the defendant’s dogs
the officer observed numerous dogs on the property
including some who were growling and circling the animal control vehicle
The defendant told the officer that she and her sister
agreeing it was out of control and saying she wanted to get rid of all of the animals
The officer coordinated arrangements with the FCAS for Candy to relinquish her dogs
Animal Control officers returned to the property to meet with Lavina
who made arrangements with authorities to relinquish the remaining 16 dogs for treatment the following week
When officers returned to the residence on Sept
Lavina refused to release the dogs and Candy would not speak with officers
law enforcement responded to a vicious animal complaint at the Evans’ residence in Coram
where they initially observed two malnourished dogs and two puppies who were lethargic and displayed distended bellies
Several loose dogs were scavenging for trash in the yard
and authorities observed a dozen skinny dogs in a fenced-in area
Two puppies were not stable on their feet while walking and appeared sickly
Authorities estimated there were approximately 23 dogs
which the Evans sisters agreed to surrender; however
a warrant was issued and officers seized the dogs
Animal Control officers and veterinarians responded to the property where Lavina helped capture 23 of the dogs who were weighed
examined and vaccinated onsite and loaded into crates
bringing the total to 27 live dogs and one deceased puppy
which was removed from a trash container in the living room
the dogs were living in an area that was severely soiled with fecal matter and urine
deteriorating vehicles that discharged fluid
several dogs vomited and defecated trash and internal parasites after receiving dewormer
The veterinarian report indicated the dogs were suffering from severe neglect and the puppy’s death was attributed to a lack of food and care
The dogs are part of an active investigation and cannot be adopted at this time
members of the public can donate to Flathead Shelter Friends
a nonprofit dedicated to improve the quality of life for shelter animals
Funds donated will go directly towards the care of dogs from the case for the duration of their stay in the shelter

Evans refused to relinquish her dogs after multiple requests

Coram AI just raised a $13.8 million Series A funding round led by Battery Ventures
8VC and Mosaic Ventures also participated in the round
San Francisco-based Coram is an AI security software that uses autonomous agents to monitor locations likes schools
The tech offers real-time analysis from security cameras via "virtual security guards," and users can query security footage using plain language
a security employee at a hospital or school could ask Coram about an unauthorized person in the building by describing their clothing
could identify the person and track their location
One of Coram's biggest competitive advantages is that it uses a building's existing security cameras and system rather than requiring a company to install all-new hardware
who co-founded Coram alongside Peter Ondruska
"Businesses that run the US economy use security cameras that are either extremely archaic or not connected," Jain told BI
"Coram brings modern software to existing security cameras with generative AI
every camera will be as intelligent as a human being
Every business can have hundreds of virtual employees."
the Battery partner leading the Coram deal
the co-founders' backgrounds in machine learning and computer vision make the startup especially well-poised to win in security
Both Jain and Ondruska have Ph.D.s in robotics and met while working in Lyft's self-driving car division
"Video AI holds the promise to put a highly vigilant digital observer behind each of the many millions of cameras watching over our workplaces
this can enhance both our safety and our privacy by focusing detection only on dangerous or unlawful behavior."
AI agents are overtaking multiple industries
from enterprise to sales to the legal industry
A growing number of startups are cropping up in the cybersecurity space and have raised funding last year — including 7AI
which raised a $36 million seed round in June; Astrix Security
which raised a $45 million Series B in December; and Torq
which raised both a $42 million Series B round and a $70 million Series C round in the last 12 months
Jain said that Coram will be focusing on various product launches — its first is AI gun-detection software with instant alerts — as well as shoring up its hardware offerings
"We're addressing diverse needs for different types of companies and teams," Jain said
it's useful when there's a safety incident — it's buying you time."
Here's an exclusive look at the six-slide pitch deck Coram AI used to raise its Series A funding round
Coram Deo Academy is relocating to Richardson
according to documents filed with the state
and covers businesses and restaurants in Collin and Dallas counties
He joined Community Impact in June 2023 and previously covered the cities of Wylie
Coram House is an abandoned orphanage on the shores of Lake Champlain in Vermont
though — about a girl pushed out a second-story window
a boy electrocuted trying to climb a fence
a nine-year-old boy named Tommy who disappeared one day
Some say he drowned in the lake as part of a “swimming lesson;” others say he simply ran away
But the truth is what Alex Kelley is there to find out
and so when the offer to ghostwrite a book about the orphanage comes along
“Walked away from the apartment I’ve lived in for seven years
Agreed to ghostwrite a book with a complete stranger
All kinds of crosscurrents swirl around that place — histories and old animosities that bleed into the present
everybody is hiding something: “The story feels like a tree
Every time I manage to ask one question or find a new piece of information
the story branches out into three more questions
growing thinner and harder to grasp as it grows toward the sun.”
and atmospheric writing that makes you feel the cold and hear the creak of the floorboards
Coram House is a haunted — and haunting — novel
the true monsters are the ones you cannot predict
“When I first moved to Burlington,” the author says
looming brick building overlooking Lake Champlain
a Catholic orphanage that had closed back in the 70s
so Christine Kenneally had just published an in-depth investigation into the abuses at St
Joseph’s (she later expanded this into an excellent book — my narrator would have been proud
And I think it was that disconnect between surface — historic building
nice view — and the horror of what had happened there that planted the seed in my brain
waiting for the right conditions to thrive
“For anyone who’s curious about the true history of St
I cannot recommend Christine Kenneally’s Ghosts of the Orphanage enough
“I grew up as a voracious and eclectic reader — horror
classics — which I think really shaped my love for genre fiction
but also my demand for sharply-written sentences
“There were a few books in particular I kept coming back to while I wrote Coram House
What she calls “writerly jobs” helped as well:
“My first job out of college was as a copyeditor at the Vietnam News in Hanoi
This was the official English language newspaper of the communist government of Vietnam
pretending I knew marketing to get a job in tech — mostly writing headlines for emails
“But here’s the thing: it’s all storytelling
And nothing trains you to be an editor of your own work like copywriting
And even if it’s a whole book: “I always shy away from talking about process
because it feels like I’m imposing order on it in hindsight
when in reality it is very chaotic and mysterious (even to me)
“Joan Didion wrote that her notebook was filled with ‘bits of the mind’s string too short to use.’ Which is sometimes what writing a book feels like to me
Like I’m collecting pieces of string — whether it’s an image
a setting — and then figuring out how to tie them together.”
Also varied: her experiences in finding a publisher
I wrote a Middle Grade novel and went through the entire soul-crushing query-and-rejection process
So I feel deeply for all writers in it now
I had a non-murdery drawer novel to share with my seven-year-old
She’s a pretty harsh critic and gave it a thumbs-up
It took me almost three years to write it — though between having an infant
it sometimes feels like a miracle I ever did
Then I sent my first query — and I think it was only six weeks from that point to when my agent sold the book.”
Next up is a novel set on an island in Maine
She won’t say much about it — “It’s nearly done
though I’m sure I’ve jinxed myself saying that out loud.” But notes
“I find islands so fascinating – the isolation
the way microcultures develop and people know each other for generations
It feels like fertile ground for a mystery.”
She studied literature at Brown University and creative writing at Concordia University

pleaded not guilty after being charged with two felony counts of assault with a weapon after allegedly physically assaulting a 13-year-old family member and shooting a firearm at her other relatives
KALISPELL, Mont. — In Flathead County, a woman appeared in court Thursday morning after being involved in a swatting incident in Coram last month
Hislop reportedly barricaded herself inside her home and refused to leave
The Flathead County Regional SWAT Team arrived on the scene and used non-lethal pepper spray and a K-9 unit to detain Hislop
Hislop is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on March 19
and will be seen in court for a pre-trial conference on April 16
NBC Montana will continue to follow this case and will bring the latest updates
Students are required to have up-to-date vaccinations to attend school
Stephanie Mills was charged with 17 first-degree felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing
State police arrested a Coram woman Tuesday for allegedly forging vaccination records of eight children in the Middle Country Central School District
"The Department’s investigation found that she allegedly forged signatures of real health care professionals and submitted the forms herself," department spokeswoman Erin Clary said in an email
she self-identified as a ‘home maker.’ "
The school district became aware of the fraud — which had been perpetrated for five years — and reported it to the Suffolk health department
The 17 counts are for each alleged forged record
"Creating falsified vaccination records and submitting fraudulent immunization information to schools is a selfish and dangerous act that exacerbates the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases spreading through our communities," state Health Commissioner Dr
Mills' arrest came after a state health department probe
part of a larger effort to fight vaccine fraud
Health officials declined to disclose the ages of the children
the schools they attend and whether parents of the eight children knowingly participated in the fraud
"To protect the identity of the affected children
the Department cannot comment," Clary wrote
Mills is scheduled to be arraigned at Suffolk County District Court in Central Islip on April 14
Vaccines are required to attend school in New York
except for the small number of children who can’t receive them for medical reasons
Middle Country Central Superintendent Roberta Gerold said in a statement that the children with falsified records were excluded from school until there was "verifiable proof that the students had either received the required vaccinations or plans were made to ensure they did receive the required vaccinations." They all are in compliance now and back in school
Mills’ arrest comes as the health department is deciding whether to levy administrative fines against Julie DeVuono, a former Amityville nurse practitioner who the state suspects falsified more than 1,500 pediatric vaccinations
Newsday reported in February that the health department sent subpoenas to 91 Long Island school districts
because it suspected students there may have fraudulent vaccine records
There are four confirmed measles cases in New York
Two of the falsified vaccination records tied to the 17 counts against Mills were for purported measles
Mills’ alleged fraud "is probably the tip of the iceberg," said Donna Hallas
director of the pediatric nurse practitioner program at the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing
Vaccines protect children and adults who can't get vaccinated for medical reasons, and others who are unvaccinated, Hallas said. Before measles vaccines, about 48,000 people a year were hospitalized and 400 to 500 people died in the United States of the disease
according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
'This is my choice to get vaccinated or not,' " Hallas said
"It’s for public health protection."
Hallas said misinformation is muddying pro-vaccine messaging from public health agencies and leading parents to seek ways to avoid vaccinations for their children
"People listen to incorrect information," Hallas said
"and they cause either harm to themselves or harm to the public."
was arrested Tuesday and charged with 17 felony counts in connection with falsifying the vaccination records of eight Middle Country Central School District children
She forged real health care professionals’ signatures and submitted forms
The school district detected the fraud and reported it
The eight children were excluded from school until they could show they obtained or were in the process of obtaining vaccinations that are required by state law to attend school
Middle Country Superintendent Roberta Gerold said

the city of Jonesboro and Jonesboro’s police chief over the beating is scheduled to go to trial in May 2026
Coram’s lawsuit claims his constitutional rights were violated
Coram is wearing a hospital gown and choking himself with a seatbelt wrapped around his neck as the car is moving
Harris opens the door and punches and elbows Coram several times in the face as he unwinds the belt
Harris later slams the car door against Coram’s head
Coram had been taken to the hospital after ingesting a baggie of fentanyl and had run away from the hospital when he panicked
He had wrapped the seatbelt around his neck to try and gag himself to dislodge the fentanyl he believed was still in his system
CORAM — A locally owned business in Coram called “Park Provisions” aims to be a one-stop shop for hungry adventure goers and travelers heading to Glacier National Park
Park Provisions specializes in locally sourced homemade meals
“This is a small community and we’ve seen a trend over the years of businesses going seasonal
for those of us who live here year-round what we need is to have our restaurant and a local community hub open,” said Park Provisions Owner Stacey Schnebel
Schnebel and her husband Seth have owned and operated the popular Stonefly Lounge in Coram for the last 16 years. Just down the street
“I’m inspired by the whole commissary food and grab-and-go food movement
but I want to know that there are hands making that food fresh every day in the kitchen
you can see the folks in our kitchen doing that all day every day,” said Schnebel
and soups made from scratch are all on the menu at Park Provisions with dine-in and grab-and-go options
The homemade pies have gained a cult following after being introduced at the Stonefly two years ago
“They are famous for their scratch-made crust
some of our custom flavors include chicken cordon bleu and a Cubano pie
sky is the limit when it comes to our selections.”
Stacey said the fresh healthy food is perfect for those looking for an easy take-home meal or a to-go lunch to take on your outdoor adventure
“You can pop one of those in your oven at home
25 minutes later have a scratch-made meal that is hot and delicious and zero mess at home.”
Gavin Thatcher — works for Tour Glacier offering outdoor adventures across Northwest Montana
— said they stop at Park Provisions to grab “Adventure Meals” for their clients
“Coming to a place like this where I know it’s people that are local owners of places in the canyon that make great quality stuff with Montana products
Park Provisions also offers last-minute essentials for your outdoor adventure
we’re not talking about break-the-bank outdoor gear
we’re talking about the things that can actually make your day like bear spray
which is easy to get with just a quick stop here,” said Stacey
Stacey said she’s proud of the fact that Park Provisions is locally owned
and has locally sourced meals with local employees
we’re a family-owned and operated business as is our other business Stonefly Lounge and the other businesses that occupy Coram
Park Provisions is located at 10126 Hwy 2 E, Coram. They are currently open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. More information can be found here.

CVS Health will stop providing many infusion services and close or sell 29 pharmacies in the coming months
CVS Health captured approximately 15% of the infusion services market
and Bourne estimated that Coram generated an approximate $3.8 billion in annual revenue
infusion services providers have faced steady headwinds over the past two years
challenging the profitability of the venture
Nationwide nursing labor shortages have hit the infusion industry hard because infusion therapy can require a 1-to-1 nurse-to-patient ratio and must be performed by nurses with specialized training
Training requirements can push compensation for infusion nurses up 10% to 20% higher than nonspecialized nurses
In 2022, CVS Health closed 36 of its 71 Coram clinics and laid off 2,000 employees including dietitians
A KFF News report attributed the closure to high overhead costs associated with providing infusion services
“Providers of infused medications have continued to face a challenging environment for their most highly specialized
and Coram has not been immune to these challenges,” a CVS spokesperson said about the most recent closures
we have reevaluated our service offerings.”
CVS Health said it would layoff 2,900 employees amid a multibillion dollar cost saving initiative
The company may be exploring breaking up its insurance and retail businesses

We chat with author Bailey Seybolt about Coram House
which is a haunting novel—inspired by a true story—about a crime writer who risks everything as she investigates the mystery of two deaths
I’ve always made my living as a writer but that’s taken different forms—travel

actual people wrote those books—not mythic figures in a tower somewhere
And even longer to realize that I might be one of those people one day

Dear Brother Pastor,I could not have been more pleased with the way the Lord blessed us at the inauguralCoram Deo Pastors Conference over a year ago
It was also a wonderful time this pastFebruary at the Pastors Workshop with John Piper
that Iwant to invite you to the second Coram Deo Pastors Conference in 2026
This event ishosted by Clearly Reformed and Christ Covenant Church
where I have the privilege ofserving as senior pastor. We look forward to once again filling our sanctuary with nearly 2,000 pastors and churchleaders at Christ Covenant Church in Matthews
2026.Our aim remains the same: we want to strengthen pastors and church leaders (and theirwives
Our prayer—and we really have peoplepraying—is that everyone who attends the conference will leave feeling encouraged
and recharged for faithfulness in ministry. We have deliberately tried to organize the conference with three kinds of messages in mind:expositional sermons
and messages that address current “hottopics.” The three panels will follow the same pattern
We hope this approach enables theconference to cover a variety of topics while also being clear about what the variousmessages are trying to accomplish. In the weeks ahead
we will get more information on the website about texts
we can let you know that we are thrilled with the men who haveagreed to teach and preach for us next year: John Piper
I will alsobe speaking and leading the panels. We continue to believe there is much to be gained by hosting the conference at a localchurch (even if that means our space is limited)
We will still have a great bookstore, exhibitors
But we also hope for the “feel” of thechurch
The music will once again be led by Nathan Clark George
as he collaborates with other musicians from inside and outside ourchurch.I love being a pastor
which is why I hope you will consider joining us atthe Coram Deo Pastors Conference in 2026
and wepray that the Spirit will be at work as well.In Christ
