Tyrrell also enjoyed his first trip to Cordele and searching for speed around the facility known for multi-groove racing While his speed faded late and he settled for second he felt more long runs could have played in his favor I just kind of slipped up off of turn two on the one restart That's when Connor took the lead from me I just couldn't quite accelerate super hard off on the outside out of turn two like I could Maybe it was just a little bit of combination of the tire going away and just the way the track is out there I think we just need a little bit more short-run speed to fire off just as good as he could we were slowly reeling him in step by step." his first top-five finish with the CARS Tour since the 2023 season finale at Caraway Speedway He was on the verge of ending that drought at Wake County before being shuffled back late in the race and finishing 15th so scoring a strong finish on Saturday at Cordele was particularly rewarding "I feel like it should have been a second and a third the last two weeks," said Huffman and the 69 chopped me down across the entry to three on lap 10 and knocked the right-front in I don't know if that ultimately affected the car long-term or not I came over here halfway through last year we were just trying to evaluate the program and see where we were at and make the steps forward to race up front with JRM and Mini and these guys." with Conner Jones rounding out the top five completing 117 of the race's 125 laps The NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee was running in the top 10 before suffering front-end damage on the final restart of the race The zMAX CARS Tour returns to action at Orange County Speedway on Saturday Related ArticlesASA Southern Super Series Bubba Pollard Charges to Milestone Southern Super Series Win at Mobile Tristan McKee Finds Redemption in CARS Tour Debut at Cordele Cole Butcher Doubles Up on Road to Snowball Derby © 2025 RTA Media Holdings, LLC. The CARS Tour's maiden voyage to the Peach State of Georgia is now in the books, and what a night it was in front of a capacity crowd at Cordele Motor Speedway. Connor Hall out-dueled Mini Tyrrell to claim his second victory of the young Late Model Stock Car season, while young Tristan McKee claimed his first win of the season in the Pro Late Model feature. Second-generation racer Keelan Harvick made his CARS Tour Pro Late Model debut on Saturday night in impressive fashion. Harvick led almost every single practice session throughout the weekend, and then claimed the pole for his first race with the Tour. Harvick led almost half the race before missing a shift on a restart and dropping back to seventh. Harvick was able to rebound to finish fifth. The full results for both races can be found below. making his CARS Tour debut with the Pro Late Models 60 cars are making the inaugural trip to Cordele Motor Speedway this weekend Headlining the 28-car Late Model Stock Car entry list is two-time Daytona 500 champion and CARS Tour co-owner This weekend’s race at the ⅜-mile oval south of Atlanta was Earnhardt Jr.’s brainchild so it makes sense that his first Late Model Stock race of the year comes at this track and this event Saturday’s race will be Earnhardt Jr.’s fifth CARS Tour race dating back to 2022 One driver to watch for from the deep south is Michael Hinde who will be driving a third Lee Pulliam Performance entry Hinde has plenty of experience at Cordele Motor Speedway in Pro Late Model and Super Late Model competition Hinde scored his first career PLM victory at Cordele back in 2022 and most recently went to victory lane in the World Crown 300 at Cordele last October Even though he’s never driven a Late Model Stock Car before you can get that Lee Pulliam will have Hinde where he needs to be at the end of Saturday’s race Virginia’s Mini Tyrrell has to be looked at as one of the favorites for the victory on Saturday just purely based off the Tour’s most recent race Tyrrell scored his second CARS Tour victory just a couple of weeks ago on the bullring at Wake County Speedway Tyrrell won the pole and then led every single one of the 125 laps without so much as a single challenge from anybody else It was a statement-making performance for Tyrrell Tyrrell’s closest competitor for most of the night at Wake County was Claremont Huffman ended up finishing outside the top 10 due to a penalty for his role in a late-race incident with Ryan Millington but for most of the race Huffman ran no lower than third in his brand new Reynolds Racing Chassis for Carroll Speedshop Huffman just went to victory lane in a weekly event at Tri-County Speedway in his own personal Reynolds Racing Chassis and has told FloRacing that his confidence is back at a level that he hasn’t felt in quite some time Points leader Connor Hall is always a contender especially right now with his JR Motorsports team Hall has an average finish of 1.5 in two races so far after winning the season opener at New River All-American Speedway and pulling off an improbable second-place finish at Wake County And the only reason we describe his finish in such a manner is because of everything that happened to Hall and his No but at one point Hall’s car was ramping skyward off the back of another car It looked like the type of incident that could end a race but there was Hall on the frontstretch after the race anyway Saturday night will be one of the rare times that the Late Model Stock Car division doesn’t have a larger car count than the Pro Late Model division the CARS Tour is heading out of the normal LMSC region and into Super and Pro Late Model territory so the Pro Late Model field bringing a stout 32 cars to Cordele shouldn’t be a surprise Headlining the entry list is two-time SpeedFest Pro Late Model winner Georgia will arguably have the most experience of any of the 60 drivers across both divisions at Cordele this weekend Roderick has won the PLM portion of SpeedFest twice and scored multiple podiums in the Super Late Model portion of SpeedFest as well Roderick won’t be the only driver behind the wheel of a No 62X as a teammate to Roderick will be Alpharetta And driving the other 62 car in the field out of the Rackley/WAR stable is young Keelan Harvick This will be Harvick’s second attempt at his CARS Tour debut It was initially supposed to happen last month at New River All-American Speedway but the second generation driver got sick on race day and was unable to make the start.  Other notable drivers in the Pro Late Model field include Hudson Bulger who came so close to scoring his first victory at New River but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection due to a weight infraction Race fans can watch all of the action from All teams on the conference call earlier this week or made aware and told to plan accordingly. Barnes then fired back. He wasn’t surprised by the price, but it didn’t make the situation better. Teams test to be competitive. It’s part of the game. “I’m not acting surprised at all?” Barnes replied to the CARS Tour owner. “It’s absurd to charge us that much for testing. Maybe it’s a southern thing, but I’ve never seen it this high anywhere ever in [Late Model Stock Cars.] I can almost guarantee some people didn’t come today just because of that price, not the distance to get here.” Once again, Dale Earnhardt Jr. replied. Too much hard work went into this weekend from a series standpoint.” It's unfortunate that it's that high. For sure. Didn't see that on the radar. Maybe a testing ban is the way. I'd rather us not be testing and practicing so much. One day shows, no support classes, done by 10pm. Don't let this be the story of this weekend though. Too much hard… A testing ban? That was brought up by Dale Earnhardt Jr. as well as Doug Barnes. Donovan Strauss, driver for Hettinger Racing, also chimed in on the topic. Could we see testing banned from the CARS Tour? At least a restriction on new tracks or perhaps a limit on how close to a race you can test? There are ways to keep testing but eliminate these chances for price gouging for one race weekend. If the teams had to test no closer than two weeks from a race, then you could see prices go down. There is clearly a surge in demand ahead of the CARS Tour races this weekend. So, Cordele can go ahead and charge as they please. But if drivers test on random days a month or two weeks before the race, then the demand isn’t as high. Look, the CARS Tour is a fantastic series. I’m sure Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, and Justin Marks know how to run this series. Of course, Kip Childress, the executive director of the series, is a great leader as well.
