MILWAUKEE — Manager Craig Counsell’s family met for dinner Friday before the first game of the season between the Cubs and Brewers
his brother-in-law Todd kept rushing the group to get to the ballpark
Todd’s answer: “I want to see Craig get booed.”
They made it in time for the lineup announcements
when Counsell’s headshot appeared on the video board
the home fans of the team he’d managed for nine years didn’t hold back
“They showed me a video of him booing,” Counsell said with a chuckle
It’s Counsell’s second season at the helm for the Cubs after signing what was then a record-setting contract with the Brewers’ division rivals
And the boos are still almost as strong as they were when he first returned to American Family Field with his new team
“I think it’s gonna happen for a while,” Counsell said
Designated hitter Seiya Suzuki has only started in the outfield once this season
But Counsell doesn’t expect Suzuki to get so little time in the outfield all season
“He’s been slowed in the outfield play with the wrist
this series has been his most active throwing series.”
Suzuki missed three consecutive games in mid-April
“It’s something I would like to do,” Counsell said of playing Suzuki in the outfield
and he was kind of in the middle of [the injury]
Reliever Ryan Brasier (strained left groin) threw live batting practice at the Cubs’ Arizona complex
It was another step in what already has been more than a five-week recovery
Brasier’s lone appearance for the Cubs came during the Tokyo Series

Article contentWhen asked how his Maple Leafs will fare in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the defending-champion Panthers
who play a particularly nasty brand of hockey
Berube amused himself with his rhetorical answer
“I don’t necessarily think it’s mean … We’re a physical team too
You’re going to get banged around and they’re going to come at you and they’re going to hit you

There are a couple of boxing analogies that come to mind here
Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier fought classics
The second boxing analogy: Everyone has a game plan
You can have a sound game plan against the Panthers and then you eat a stick from Matthew Tkachuk
take a crosscheck from Sam Bennett or a face wash from Brad Marchand and it changes the way you approach the game
We know pretty much what the Panthers will try to do to the Maple Leafs
What we don’t know is how the Leafs will respond
They have some training about dealing with tight spaces
All you have to is drive around downtown Toronto on any given day and it equates in some way to this hockey series
You know there’s all kinds of traffic and construction
But you still have to find a way to get it done
Berube has been talking to the team a lot about playing in tight spaces. About playing with little room on the ice. The Leafs are uber-talented up front with Matthews, new dad Mitch Marner and the wayward son, William Nylander, all of whom were part of the 4-Nations tournament a few months back.
But the rather stacked Panthers had nine players in that tournament, including captain Sasha Barkov, Team USA leader Tkachuk, sound defensive players such as Gustav Forsling on defence and third-liners Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen.
The biggest advantage on paper in this series is the difference between third lines: Lundell centres hugely underrated Luostarinen and Marchand. The Leafs third line has been a work in progress all year long. Look for the Leafs to continue to treat the Scott Laughton-centred fourth unit like more of a third line in this series.
Berube may have to find the right match against Lundell, with Barkov centring one line and Bennett another.
This is really new territory for Matthews and Marner. They have struggled to produce in playoff series in the past. They have struggled to succeed when there is little open ice. But in the first round, in particular Matthews, he might have been the best player in the series when all 200 feet of the game are taken into account.
He was doing the Barkov thing and now must do it head-to-head against Barkov. The challenge for Berube in the games at home is to take advantage of last change. That would keep Barkov and Forsling away from Matthews and Marner.
But it would still wind up with Lundell and a defenceman such as Aaron Ekblad against the Leafs’ first line. That’s not easy, either.
The wild card for the Leafs is always Nylander. He doesn’t fit any regular descriptions. He is capable of scoring at almost any time or giving up something similar in the wrong end. Florida has no one similar to him. Most NHL teams don’t.
Berube needs the Leafs to be composed against the Panthers. There was a lot of talk of composure on Sunday. Staying composed against Florida’s supposed meanness. Composed against its physical play. Composed dealing with the Panthers crossing the line, if and when they do so.
“Talk about composure,” Berube said, referring to Nylander. “He’s pretty composed, maybe sometimes too much.”
Then he laughed again. Everybody did. You can laugh now. The not-so-funny part begins on Monday night.

Coughlin Statement on the Newark Airport Flight Disruptions
“The recent wave of cancellations and flight delays at Newark Liberty International Airport showcases the consequences federal mismanagement has on New Jersey citizens
One of the country's busiest transportation hubs
Newark is an essential cog in both the state and national economy
and interruptions that occurred last week are unacceptable and cannot be allowed to continue
It is clear the FAA’s decisions have not kept pace with the demands of a modern and heavily traveled aviation system
New Jersey residents deserve more than apologies and temporary fixes
They deserve a safe and reliable transportation system every time they step into an airport.”

— Chief Deputy Prosecutor Zach Craig will run for judge of Delaware Circuit Court 4 in next year's election cycle
a Republican — is not expected to seek election to a fifth term on the Circuit Court 4 bench
Feick has presided over the court since 2003
Craig has been Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman's chief deputy since 2019
His responsibilities have included overseeing significant drug-related cases
including prosecutions stemming from fatal overdoses
Ball State University and Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis — has been a deputy prosecutor since 2009
More: Prosecutor Hoffman to seek re-election, this time as a Republican
"I'm a firm believer that if you have the ability to do something
then you have the responsibility to do it," Craig said Friday
With the experience I've gained over the past 16 years in the prosecutor's office
especially the last six years as the chief deputy
I think that has put me in a unique position to be highly qualified to be the one that takes over when Judge Feick retires."
Craig noted Delaware Circuit Court 4 oversees the county's drug and veterans courts
"Those are extremely important programs," he said
"They need to be safeguarded by a judge who understands the complexities of criminal matters
and when somebody deserves a chance and when somebody is not deserving of that chance."
Craig on Monday filed the paperwork necessary to form a campaign committee

the ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee
made a vigorous case today for the importance of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in rural areas
In an early morning speech to the Food Research & Action Center’s National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference
Craig said the Republican House budget proposal to cut $230 billion from programs under the jurisdiction of the House Agriculture Committee would have devastating effects on rural communities
Craig said that every SNAP dollar has a $1.50 economic impact nationwide
but that in rural areas the impact of every SNAP dollar is $1.80
and that it “travels through the entire supply chain,” employing farmers
If the Republicans cut the SNAP budget by $230 billion
they “are going to cost family farmers $30 billion in farm income,” Craig said.
The Republican attempt to cut SNAP spending and increase spending for the reference prices that trigger farm subsidy payments and for crop insurance in reconciliation could destroy the farm and anti-hunger coalition that has convinced Congress to pass farm bills for decades
“It is insane what they are thinking about doing,” she said
that farmers do need help because commodity prices are low and input prices are higher than in the past.
“We could be on the verge of another ’80s farm crisis,” Craig said
adding “that is before the president introduced the dumbest across the board trade war in American history.”
Craig did not mention her candidacy for the Democratic nomination to run for the seat of retiring Sen
but told The Hagstrom Report that she will continue to serve as ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee while mounting her Senate campaign
Last week House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson
told the North American Agricultural Journalists that he wondered if she would continue as ranking member because if he were running for another office
due to Republican rules he would have to submit his resignation as chairman.
Craig said she intends to “lead” the Democratic caucus in its efforts to fight Republican plans to cut Medicaid and SNAP.
Craig noted that records show she is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress
but said she has recently toured the state of Minnesota
including districts where Republican House members have declined to hold town hall meetings
She said her tour showed her that the Republicans are “running scared from their constituents.”
Republican members privately express concerns about the president’s budget instruction and the administration’s cuts
Craig said she has seen a “whole lot” of her Republican colleagues “draw the red lines” but then fall into “the red pool” after they are threatened
She said she hopes that those who are now drawing red lines “are willing to hold the line” in the budget talks
She noted that the Trump administration has already canceled grants to food banks
and that Trump’s budget proposal would eliminate the Commodity Supplemental Food Program
She also pointed out that the Trump budget would eliminate the Food for Peace program
which has provided food aid in troubled places overseas for decades.
Craig said she had run for ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee because she came back from the 2024 election “pretty pissed off” that Democrats have such a hard time winning in rural areas
She said she had “eked out a 14% win” and believes that as the ranking member she can have an impact.
the former ranking member on the committee
joked that where else but in Congress “could a 53-year-old grandmother of three represent change?”
a fact that is often mentioned in descriptions of her.)
Craig also said she grew up in a mobile home park in Arkansas with a single mother who sometimes depended on food assistance
but went to college for nine years at night to get a teaching degree
“I wouldn’t be standing here today if my mom had been denied those benefits,” she said.
Craig also told the anti-hunger advocates that the minimum wage should be raised and that housing should be made more affordable and child care be made available.
During a question-and-answer session that followed her speech
Craig urged the anti-hunger advocates to talk about the broader supply chain when they are lobbying in opposition to SNAP cuts this week on Capitol Hill.
Noting that her district is composed of 30% Democrats
30% Republicans and “30% who don’t like Democrats or Republicans,” Craig told the advocates
“Don’t be afraid to get outside of what I call a Democratic bubble.”
Some Republican members have pointed out that the Senate budget calls for only a $1 billion cut to ag and food programs and that the House and Senate will eventually have to compromise
But Craig said “Don’t let folks get away with saying it will be that low — don’t let anybody bullshit you into thinking this cut is not real.”
but “what he wants to do and what his leadership allows are two different things.” She also noted that the White House has stayed out of the SNAP cut debate.

Legislators in Springfield for Final Four Weeks of Session
and the House and Senate will be in session every week through our scheduled adjournment date of May 31
In addition to vetting and voting on bills that passed in their chamber of origin and now must be considered by the other chamber
The first is the passage of a Fiscal Year 2026 budget for the year that begins on July 1
It is an extremely tight budget year for the State of Illinois
and as budget discussions begin to narrow in scope
I am looking for fiscal responsibility and restraint
There are varying levels of confidence on whether or not we will have an approved FY26 budget in place by the end of May
Another issue of paramount importance is finding a fair and equitable solution to the pending $770 million fiscal cliff facing our public transit systems of Metra
and the Chicago Transportation Authority (CTA)
I serve on the Senate Transportation Committee and am focused on a board reconfiguration that is fair and equitable for all six counties in the transit service region
with equality in representation and voting power for the suburbs
I will provide updates on these and other issues as legislation is finalized
Pritzker’s Spending Surge Comes at Taxpayers’ Expense
At a time when Illinois families are cutting back to make ends meet
Democrats in Springfield are pushing a $6 billion tax hike to fund massive government expansion
including what is shaping up to be the largest state budget in Illinois history
JB Pritzker’s proposed budget is nearly $15 billion larger than when he first took office
Democrats want taxpayers to foot the bill through another series of new and expanded taxes
Illinois already carries the highest overall tax burden in the country. And just last week, the American Legislative Exchange Council released its “Rich States, Poor States” 2025 report
which ranks Illinois near the bottom in a study of how friendly state policies are for economic growth
The report judges each state based on 15 different economic outlook factors
how progressive the personal income tax rate is
as well as whether there is an inheritance tax
The report also considers the state minimum wage
and the number of public employees compared to the state population
Only Vermont and New York scored worse than Illinois on these combined metrics
The new proposed taxes in the Democrat plan would drive up consumer costs
and make it even harder for family-owned farms and businesses to stay in the family and survive
Republicans are also sounding the alarm over plans to funnel some of the new revenue into expanding government benefits
including programs for individuals who are in the United States illegally
and prioritizing programs that hurt the very people they claim to represent
Senate Republicans are doubling down on their efforts to stand up for working families and fight for lower taxes
and a future where people can afford to stay in Illinois
A Day of Tribute: Illinois Honors Fallen Officers and K9’s at Memorial Ceremony in Springfield
The Illinois Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony took place on May 1 in the Capitol City to honor the brave law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty
K-9s who lost their lives in the line of police work were also recognized
Dax worked with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for many years
Lux is following in his dad’s footsteps and is in training to become a Police K-9
The day began with a squad car procession lining up at the Illinois State Fairgrounds at 6:30 a.m.
followed by an interfaith church service at 9:30 a.m
at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield
less than a mile from the Illinois State Capitol
The formal memorial ceremony was held at the Illinois State Library where officers
and officials paid tribute to the fallen heroes whose names will be added to the Illinois Police Memorial
This ceremony was a powerful reminder of the courage
and dedication of our law enforcement officers
My Republican colleagues and I proudly stand behind police officers
honoring their service and the sacrifices they make to protect Illinois communities
all united in honoring the memory of those who paid the ultimate price in service to Illinois
Senate Republicans continue to stand with our brave men and women in blue
knowing that their commitment to upholding the rule of law deserves respect and gratitude
and their sacrifices ensure the safety and security of every Illinois citizen
Billion Dollar Brandon Returns to Springfield with a New Bailout Request
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson was back in Springfield with his latest bailout request for his city
Mayor Johnson comes to the legislature with a new wish list and a new request that legislators pay for financial decisions he has made
Whether it is a billion extra dollars for Chicago Public Schools (CPS) on top of the funds they receive through the school funding formula
a billion dollars for a stadium for the Chicago Bears
one familiar theme accompanies these requests: He wants suburban and downstate taxpayers to foot the bill to fill his self-created funding gaps
I recognize the importance of a thriving Chicago
What worries me is the established habit of Mayor Johnson refusing to control or cut spending
engaging in unaffordable budgeting and contracts
and then looking to the General Assembly to pay for it
Fiscal recklessness in City Hall should not become a burden on suburban families who have worked hard to live within their means

The deviously named “Medicare for All” health care reform arises in the odd idea that the old folks are sucking up free health care that the needy and envious younger Americans should also have
Medicare was established as health insurance for older Americans by Title XVIII of the Social Security Act Amendments of 1965
It provides that working Americans pay a percentage of their wages to fund this new federal health insurance program
people begin to automatically receive health care through Medicare Part A hospital coverage — the major health care expense for older Americans
comes a new cost; a new insurance premium called “Medicare
Part B.” Retirees must sign up for this coverage and pay a monthly health insurance premium which is normally deducted from Social Security benefit payments
of elder American health care don’t stop here
You might think that after paying Medicare A taxes all your working life
and now being hit with a new Medicare B insurance premium
that your access to fully paid health care would be
a “wrap.” Not so; there are many more fleecing-of-the-sheep scenes to be shot
Neither Med A nor Med B cover all the costs supposedly “insured” by these two parts of the government program
exclusions and sundry other expenses that are outside of Med A and B insurance coverage
sort of) you now have to pay private supplemental insurance premiums
“Medicare for All” is glib political vote-sucking jibber jabber
What we really need is frank and fair discussion
to fix our inadequate health care system which has already impoverished too many Americans

Agriculture Brooke Rollins on Friday praised President Trump’s proposed fiscal year 2026 budget for discretionary programs that cuts many USDA programs.
D-Minn., the ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee
and a candidate for the Democratic nomination to succeed Sen
“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to save our country from fiscal ruin
President Trump’s budget will put us on the path to reducing our deficit and lowering the national debt
“Lower federal spending combined with the largest tax cuts in the history of our country
and tariff and trade realignment will set the stage for the next generation of American greatness,” Rollins said
“At USDA we have already started by eliminating wasteful spending
reprioritizing our services to put farmers first
Rollins did not mention Trump’s specific additions and cuts at USDA
but will testify on Wednesday before the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee.
The budget proposal would increase funding for the Food Safety and Inspection Service and rental assistance and would assure that historically black colleges and universities will be “amply funded,” but would cut many agricultural research programs
conservation and forestry programs and eliminate the McGovern-Dole program to fund school meals programs overseas.
The budget would also cut the salaries budget for the Farm Service Agency
Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Risk Management Agency
which were placed under one budget area in Trump’s first administration
“The staff-heavy FSA struggles with hiring due in part because of labor market competition
Staff shortages have left leased premises underutilized
resulting in waste,” the budget says.
The budget would also eliminate the Commodity Supplemental Food Program
which it says has provided food banks with “shelf-stable foods that are high in sodium and other harmful ingredients,” replacing it with food boxes that “would be filled with commodities sourced from domestic farmers and given directly to American households.”
The budget document says these boxes would be in line with the Make America Healthy Again initiative promoted by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F
Craig said Trump’s proposed cuts totaled about $5 billion
“The president’s budget proposal is out of touch and ignores the needs of America’s farmers
foresters and rural communities,” Craig said in a news release
“At a time when farmers are reeling from trade wars
gutting technical assistance at the Farm Service Agency will make it impossible for farmers to access the resources they need to do their jobs
‘The president’s budget also poses real danger to our communities by slashing funding for programs that assist local and state partners with wildfire prevention
and this budget does not value farm country,” Craig said
Craig detailed her objections in a news release
The Florida Panthers have earned a reputation as one of the dirtiest, toughest, and meanest teams in the NHL. But Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube isn’t impressed—and in an interview on Sunday
he took the opportunity to share his candid thoughts about the Round 2 opponents
The Stanley Cup Playoffs continue, and the second round features some intriguing matchups. One of the most anticipated is between the reigning champions, the Florida Panthers, and the Toronto Maple Leafs, who eliminated the Ottawa Senators in six games in the first round
Florida got the better of the Tampa Bay Lightning in their opening-round series
and after reaching the Final in 2023 and hoisting the Cup in 2024
the Panthers are once again among the favorites to win it all in 2025
They have a roster built for playoff hockey, filled with gritty players like Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Bennett, and Brad Marchand
Their physical playing style makes them a nightmare to go up against
they’ve earned a well-deserved reputation for playing tough
But the Maple Leafs don’t seem fazed. On Sunday, Toronto head coach Craig Berube spoke to the media and was asked directly if the Panthers’ “mean” streak was a concern. His reaction? Hilarious.“Are they mean?” a genuinely confused Berube replied
and once the reporter clarified what he meant
the coach offered a more thoughtful response.“They play a hard game
and they’re physical and in your face the whole game… I don’t necessarily think it’s mean.”
“Are they mean? 💀”Craig Berube when asked about the Panthers being a “mean” hockey team and how the Leafs will handle it.The perfect coach. At the perfect time. 💙😭#leafsforever pic.twitter.com/dx5ke7YBJ3

The Nebraska Department of Transportation didn’t stray outside west central Nebraska in choosing a local chief engineer for only the fifth time in a century
North Platte resident and Ogallala native Cameron Craig
began work April 14 following the retirement of 20-year District 6 Engineer Gary Thayer
joined his hometown’s district office of the then-Nebraska Department of Roads in May 1987
Both he and Craig worked under the late Les O’Donnell
who led District 6 for 31 years before Thayer succeeded him in October 2005
House became director in 1925 of North Platte’s field office of the Bureau of Roads and Bridges of the Nebraska Department of Public Works
It became the Department of Roads and Irrigation in 1933
held the job from 1948 until O’Donnell took over in 1974
His office’s parent department saw its roads portion split off by the Legislature in 1957
A 2025 map of the Nebraska Department of Transportation's eight statewide districts
said he joined the roads department as a college intern in 2003
O’Donnell recruited him for District 6 after he received his University of Nebraska-Lincoln civil engineering degree in 2005
He served as a graduate engineer until he became a licensed professional engineer in 2009
Craig had served since 2015 as the district’s construction engineer
overseeing construction and repair projects in the 14 counties fully or partly inside District 6
“I really am excited to carry the torch and fill the big shoes before me with Gary and Lester and serve the area and provide the best transportation system possible,” said Craig
the son of Butch and Katy Craig of Ogallala
is executive director of the Community Connections human services nonprofit group in North Platte
joined the District 6 office five months after getting his own UNL civil engineering degree in December 1986
Thayer held Knott’s position from 1995 until applying for the top post after O’Donnell retired
I would have had 38 years with the department,” said the 1979 North Platte High School graduate
and we’ve always lived in North Platte except for going to school in Lincoln.”
Between his nearly 20 years as director and decade before that as construction engineer
he oversaw 592 construction or repair projects in District 6 with a combined sticker price of $1.36 billion
His tenure as director included the recently wrapped-up multistage rebuilding of Jeffers Street
will be similarly rebuilt starting in 2027
Both Thayer and Craig oversaw the massive 2019-21 redesign and reconstruction of the Interstate 80-76 Exit 102 interchange
near Colorado’s northeast corner west of Big Springs
That “at the time was probably the biggest monetary project we had ever built,” Thayer said
He credited project manager Josh Willard with his use of technology to complete the new I-80/76 split “in a very
Thayer also praised veteran District 6 operations and maintenance manager Roger Klasna for his aid as message-board-like “variable speed limit” signs sprouted along I-80 in recent years
He and Klasna first discussed such a project when Thayer became district engineer
“It took us almost 20 years to deliver that project.”
The changeable signs will pay dividends during snowstorms
“They’ll be a hug safety improvement on the interstate
because people honestly don’t know what speed to drive” in adverse conditions
Thayer’s retirement means Craig will be in charge locally of the long-awaited expansion of North Platte’s Newberry Access from two to four lanes from I-80 to U.S
with land reserved for the expansion ever since
State NDOT leaders have said design work on four-laning Newberry has begun
Construction likely won’t start until late this decade
He takes over as workers have begun tearing out and rebuilding I-80 from Roscoe to Ogallala
That 6-mile-long stretch holds District 6’s last remaining I-80 concrete from when the interstate opened to Ogallala in 1968
That two-year rebuild also includes replacement of the westbound I-80 rest area near Roscoe
home to the “Up/Over” sculpture installed during the U.S
The full Ogallala-to-Roscoe project is expected to last through 2026
a radiological technologist at North Platte Surgical Center
plan to see more of their two sons and two grandsons and enjoy their 20-acre spread south of town and their 30-year-old mare
He recently bought a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle that he expects to take on the road

Hawk are fans of Ryan Day's Ohio State extension (1:19)Pat McAfee and former Ohio State linebacker A.J
Hawk break down Ryan Day's new seven-year deal with the Buckeyes
It has been nearly a decade since USC has signed a top-five class
and the Trojans have yet to make an appearance in the College Football Playoff
but Lincoln Riley is working to try to change the program's fortunes on both fronts
USC is setting the pace for the 2026 recruiting cycle with a class that ranks No. 1 and is anchored by a two five-star recruits, both of whom have come on board in recent days. The combination of Keenyi Pepe and Elbert Hill has added size and speed to the class
with Pepe one of the top-ranked offensive tackles in the class and Hill the No
Notre Dame is coming off an appearance in the national championship game and working to get back there as it continues to infuse its 2026 class with more talent and jumps into the top five. The Fighting Irish have landed multiple ESPN 300 commits in the past month, including running back Javian Osborne
who is out of Texas and offers a nice blend of speed
aggressive defensive tackle who could develop into an interior pass-rushing headache for opposing offenses
and Williams is a true dual-threat signal-caller
having been measured at over 22 mph in game play
Ryan Day has the luxury of building his 2026 class around one of the most coveted players in the country: five-star receiver Henry
was a star receiver for West Virginia and the Cincinnati Bengals
stands 6-6 and has a combination of length and quickness rarely seen from high school receivers
Notre Dame started the year off slowly on the recruiting trail but heated up during the spring, landing a handful of ESPN 300 prospects in April. On defense, the Irish landed Dunham, an edge player with nice length and a quick first step, and Ayden Pouncey
On offense, ESPN 300 OT Gregory Patrick joined a class that already featured several top OL prospects including top-10 OT Merrill
who at 6-7 and 335 pounds is a massive presence with physicality and power in the run game
This group collectively can continue the school's strong reputation as an offensive line factory
The Irish also landed Thomas Davis Jr., whose father is former Panthers star Thomas Davis, and four-star quarterback Noah Grubbs
who already has shown impressive footwork and a sound release from the pocket
The Tigers are tough to beat for in-state talent, and they built the foundation for one of the top classes in the country on homegrown recruits. But landing Keys from nearby Mississippi delivered Brian Kelly and his staff their first five-star of the 2026 cycle. As of now, the 6-3 Keys would be the highest-rated receiver to make it to Baton Rouge since Kayshon Boutte
Keys is a long strider with long arms who prioritizes winning and is a favorite of coaches and teammates alike
Though much of their recruiting success is from within their primary recruiting footprint
the Tigers did go out west to land ESPN 300 Finney
A 2027 prospect who reclassified into the 2026 class
he has shown he can be physical in press coverage but also brings excellent speed to be able to run with receivers
Clemson is coming off a College Football Playoff appearance
but the Tigers are still chasing the heights of their mid-2010s success under Dabo Swinney
and their 2025 class ranked just 37th in the country
Their 2026 group is looking more promising
especially after a red-hot March in which Swinney landed eight verbals
Mike Elko has quickly proved he can identify and recruit at a high level. He has worked fertile recruiting grounds, landing the Aggies' top-ranked commit, defensive end Jordan Carter, out of Georgia. He landed fellow four-star defensive tackle Jermaine Kinsler out of New Jersey
Elko has also been able to unearth talent from more unlikely places, such as quarterback Helaman Casuga out of Utah
but he has a live arm and can get the ball out quickly
He has clocked a 21 mph max speed and has the type of quickness and excellent feet to thrive in man coverage
who has an excellent blend of size (200 pounds) and speed (he was measured hitting 21 mph on film)
220-pounder has tremendous length and an impressive track background
He has considerable physical tools and upside if Syracuse's coaching staff can harness it
Wilson is another big pull out of Florida; the edge defender has good initial quickness and tallied 17 sacks in 2024
yet plays with impressive balance for someone with his power and contact explosiveness
The Orange also have been active in the Mid-Atlantic
Lance Leipold is no stranger to building a program
and he's off to a hot start in fortifying Kansas' 2026 class
in-state corner Dunnigan has the length to reroute receivers off the line and the straight-line speed to hang with them on vertical routes
The Jayhawks have a few offensive linemen committed
who has an enticing combination of athleticism
pass protection skills and upside if he can continue to fill out his frame
The Jalon Daniels era enters its sixth and final season in 2025. In-state three-star commit Jaylen Mason is an intriguing developmental option for the future at QB
Kenny Dillingham deftly pulled all the roster-building levers available to him as he rebuilt the Sun Devils back to national relevancy
They have an interesting 2026 class so far that includes a pair of ESPN 300 recruits
is a dual-threat playmaker with excellent short-area quickness and a smooth
210 pounds who moves well for his size and can be tough to tackle after the catch
Now North Carolina is beginning to layer in skill players such as three-star receiver Darrion Kirksey
who picked the Tar Heels over offers from Ole Miss and Arkansas and has outstanding short-area quickness
Davis can be a versatile back with the power to run between the tackles
he rushed for more than 1,300 yards and also hauled in more than 50 receptions
Bill Belichick is building his first recruiting class at North Carolina from the inside out. AP Photo/Chris Seward12. Louisville CardinalsPrevious ranking: 12
Jeff Brohm has raised Louisville's floor with a 19-8 record and an appearance in the ACC championship game two years ago. His 2026 class already has more than a dozen commits, with four-star defensive back Broadnax out of Florida the biggest get so far. At nearly 6-3, he has great length, balance and body control for a corner. DE Kevontay Hugan was another nice pull out of Florida
He lacks ideal length but possesses a quick first step and has been a versatile defender for his high school and was productive as a junior with more than 100 tackles with 18 sacks
is a middle linebacker with good instincts and can be a physical presence between the tackles
The Illini have made some strong in-state additions in the trenches
Thomann is one of the top OL prospects in Illinois
and three-star Tony Balanganayi is an interesting big man
where he has shown he can be disruptive but with more mass could offer higher upside as an OL
The Bulldogs have been a consistent staple among the top three overall classes during Kirby Smart's tenure and look to be a contender to do so again in 2026
A big step toward finishing near the top again is bringing five-star quarterback Curtis back into the mix
the Bulldogs were able to fend off other suitors
and give themselves a potential impact QB for the future
Curtis might need to adjust to a relatively steep jump in competition level
quick release and the ability to change arm angles
who with his big frame and good body control can offer a wide catch radius
Fort is a safety with good range who can be active in run support
Kirby Smart's bid to get back to the top of the class rankings was bolstered by the addition of QB Jared Curtis. Justin Ford/Getty Images16. Auburn TigersPrevious ranking: 13
Harris is a lengthy edge defender with good power and range
Toodle and Garrett are highly productive players who have combined for more than 200 tackles and 20 tackles for loss in their careers
Freeze then added four-star Carter out of Douglasville (Georgia) High School in January
The son of 1990 NFL first-round running back Dexter Carter
Devin is one of the faster receivers in the class and pairs his speed with fluid
Despite a rocky finish to the 2024 season, the Hurricanes are trending in the right direction. They're coming off a 10-win season, former QB Cam Ward was the No
1 pick in the NFL draft and they've reeled in two consecutive top-15 recruiting classes
Mario Cristobal's 2026 class isn't particularly deep yet
Brandon, a five-star quarterback, is the headliner, and rightfully so. He's a strong, accurate passer who fits Tennessee's offense perfectly. His commitment was big initially but seems even more impactful now after the well-publicized split with Nico Iamaleava
The Seminoles are coming off a disastrous 2-10 season and a disappointing No. 26 finish in the 2025 recruiting cycle after losing several ESPN 300 commitments down the stretch. Florida State also took a hit when four-star 2026 quarterback Brady Smigiel decommitted in late January
they are still scoring some victories on the recruiting trail
who can close well and be a physical hitter
He should continue to improve with the tools to develop into a productive starter
Washington landed several commitments in the secondary
who has good size at roughly 6 feet and is smooth in his movements
Bill O'Brien has injected new life into Boston College by returning the program to its local roots
with most of BC's commits hailing from Massachusetts
A key add from that Northeast footprint is Jin
the Eagles built a reputation for developing NFL-caliber talent
particularly along the offensive line and on defense
and just recently had two offensive linemen drafted into the NFL
fits that mold but projects to the offensive line
where he can be very productive with a nice blend of flexibility and mobility
Leak is an interesting prospect who probably will need developmental time but flashes very good raw tools and could in time be a breakout player from this class
The talk about coach Sam Pittman on the hot seat seemed to cool off entering the offseason, which will benefit recruiting and aid a 2026 class that already has a solid foundation. Four-star Prevo out of Texas is a 5-10 receiver who has outstanding balance, body control and short-area burst. Several high-three-star prospects anchor the class, including quarterback Jayvon Gilmore
a tall (6-4) but lean passer with a nice frame to develop
He has a strong arm with a smooth release and is a nice early pickup by the Razorbacks
Yarbrough brings upside at defensive end with good first-step quickness and range. Pittman, a former offensive line coach, also landed in-state big man Tucker Young
who can get push and help create lanes in the run game
The Cougars finished 63rd in the 2025 cycle but are capitalizing on in-state talent to compete for one of the top classes in the Big 12 in 2026
Harris is the top-rated player in the state of Utah and one of the top TE prospects in the country
He has excellent size at roughly 6-6 and is smooth in his movements with excellent ball skills
Harris could be a highly productive target in BYU's passing attack
Mulitalo, the top-ranked defensive player in the state, can offer versatility along the line and, in camp evaluations, has demonstrated an intense demeanor with the ability to take and apply coaching well. The Cougars also stayed in-state to land a QB to develop in Kaneal Sweetwyne
who has a rangy frame with quick feet and can be a dual-threat option with nice upside as a passer
The Scarlet Knights have added some top talent to their wide receiver room with Carter and Elias Coke
having joined the class before the 2024 season started
Carter is a good route runner with strong hands and could be a quick contributor once arriving
On defense, Joey Kopec is a two-way player in high school
He has good range and is effective dropping into coverage
Baylor picked up London Smith
a wide receiver with strong ties to the program; his father was a two-sport star (football and basketball) at Baylor and his mother was a national champion triple jumper for the Bears
possesses coveted size (6-2) and blends that with good speed and is smooth in his movements

It's the end of an era for the San Antonio Spurs and the entire NBA
Though Popovich will remain a crucial part of the franchise
the decision to work exclusively in the front office will deprive the NBA of a Hall of Fame coach and make one of the league's fascinating characters less visible than he has been over the past four decades
Popovich could be prickly or playful with a microphone in front of him
but his quick wit often made his sideline interviews
news conferences and public interactions as entertaining as the games themselves
Here's a look at some of Popovich's memorable moments and quotes over his 30-year career with the San Antonio Spurs:
ANALYSIS: Gregg Popovich's impact on the Spurs and NBA was immense. Six ways he left his footprint.
Gregg Popovich's best quotes as Spurs coach'Nobody's happy.'The yin and yang of Popovich's persona is probably best on display during his in-game sideline interviews
which became much-anticipated events over the course of his career because of how much he seemingly despised doing them
It often led to terse exchanges and answers that lasted but a few words
Sometimes, he could be downright ornery. Even then, though, they were enthralling. Like when former TNT reporter David Aldridge asked Popovich if he was happy with his team's shot selection during a game in 2012.
"Happy? Happy's not a word that we think about in a game. Think of something different. Happy? I don't know how to judge happy. We're in the middle of a contest. Nobody's happy."
Popovich's most notable sideline interviews usually occurred with late TNT reporter Craig Sager, whose colorful outfits were the subject of lighthearted banter ("How can you be that professional in a suit that looks like that?")
But Popovich was at his heartwarming best once Sager, who died in 2016, was diagnosed with leukemia. It led to a memorable exchange between the two when Sager returned to the sidelines in December 2015 for a game.
"I got to honestly tell you this is the first time I've enjoyed doing this ridiculous interview we're required to do. It's because you're here and you're back with us. Welcome back, baby. ... Now ask me a couple of inane questions."
Popovich was inducted into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023 and his induction speech featured his greatest Spurs players -- David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker -- seated on stage behind him. At one point, when he went to shake their hands, emcee Ahmad Rashad thought that was the end of Popovich's speech. Only it wasn't, and Popovich reacted by shooing Rashad off stage.
Popovich had colorful quotes and a sometimes-tough disposition with reporters. His players saw those sides of him, too. A Popovich classic is this line, captured by TNT during a Spurs timeout during a 2012 NBA playoffs series with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
'He's pathetic. He's small. He's a whiner. ... He's a damaged man.'Popovich has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party since Trump first took office in 2016, and used many of his regular interactions with reporters during the NBA season to express his political views. That included a Spurs news conference about a week before he suffered a stroke on Nov. 2, in which he spoke out against Trump for more than two minutes ahead of the 2024 Presidential election.

Angie Craig announced on Tuesday that she will pursue a bid for a Senate seat in 2026 rather than a fifth term in the House
In a launch video heaving on the word “fight,” Craig played up her humble upbringing as an example of personal grit
“I know what it’s like to be knocked down and counted out
I grew up in a mobile home park — raised by a single mom,” she said

won’t be starting from scratch as she enters the contest because she’ll be able to tap into an existing campaign account and a fundraising list honed after years of being in competitive races in the 2nd Congressional District
defeating a Republican incumbent in 2018 to get there
Craig said the country has “a fight on its hands right now” with President Donald Trump taking a slash-and-burn approach to institutions people rely on “and a cowardly Republican Party rolling over and letting it all happen.”
In an interview with MPR News’ Morning Edition
“I'm going to be in the middle of the fight against Medicaid cuts
in the middle of the fight to preserve Social Security in our country
in the middle of the fight to take on a lot of the chaos we're seeing,” she said
“Donald Trump and Elon Musk are literally trying to burn our government to the ground
if we're going to save this democracy
we've got to work to really change our campaign finance laws in this country,” she continued

The series victory marks the first time manager Craig Counsell has won a series at American Family Field as the Cubs' skipper and Chicago's first series win in Milwaukee since 2022
The Cubs' 6-2 win over the Brewers Saturday night secured a series win for the North Siders
The last time Counsell won a series at American Family Field was against the Cubs in his last regular season series as Brewers manager in the 2023 finale
That was where the Cubs lost out on the postseason by one game
and Counsell would go on to manage his final Brewers postseason appearance
High fives in the chat 🖐️ pic.twitter.com/FUQ4pj9myr
There were plenty of other painful Cubs losses in years prior when Counsell was leading the Brew Crew, going back to the latter part of 2018 when Milwaukee took over the rivalry on the field. With that said, it is nice to see Counsell win in his old stomping grounds in Cubbie Blue. Although noting that the boos still rain down upon him
They made a statement on Friday night with the 10-0 win
and were able to really make it count by winning the series Saturday
They went down quietly in a 4-0 loss Sunday
highlighted by a Shota Imanaga injury that cast a cloud over the weekend
but still return to Wrigley Field with another series win under their belts
and the Cubs will go to American Family Field one more time in late July for a three-game set
the vibes continue - although we could go without any more key injuries

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Craig Yoho was sent to the minor leagues Saturday
two days after he walked four batters and allowed five runs in an inning of relief
The Brewers sent Yoho to Triple-A Nashville and called up right-hander Elvin Rodríguez before their Saturday night game with the Chicago Cubs
“Yoho is a big part of our future,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said
I think we have something there that’s pretty special
It’s a good time for him to go down and get that command where he wants it.”
possesses an outstanding changeup that had enabled him to dominate in the minor leagues
He struck out nine batters and allowed only one unearned run over 9 2/3 innings at Nashville earlier this season
he recorded 101 strikeouts over 57 2/3 innings and posted an 0.94 ERA with three minor league teams
“He can’t just rely on a changeup for a strike,” Murphy said
And the changeup comes into play a lot better.”
Murphy remains confident Yoho will make those adjustments and become a successful major league pitcher
I really think he’ll respond,” Murphy said
returns to the majors after going 0-2 with a 7.53 in four appearances with Milwaukee earlier this season
He also has posted a 4.82 ERA in three games with Nashville

I was a young teenager living in Long Lake, Illinois, 50 miles north of Chicago. Like most kids my age, I had several part-time jobs, one of which was doing lawn work and other jobs for Mr. and Mrs. Surrey, whose beautiful home fronted the town beach.
I’d started working for the Surreys a couple of years earlier and had come to regard them as my best customers. They entrusted me with all sorts of tasks both inside and outside the house, and rewarded me accordingly.
Earlier that summer Mr. Surrey had shown me how to clean and otherwise care for the beautiful wooden Chris Craft cruiser he kept docked in the channel behind the house, including how to top off the gas and check the engine oil.
He’d taken me out on the lake and given me instructions in how to run the boat, then exchanged seats and let me drive it all over the lake for the better part of an hour, at the end of which he guided me back into the channel and instructed me in the fine art of docking.
Satisfied that I understood the basic procedures, he’d handed me my own ignition key.
Since then, summer was proving to be outstanding. I was already adept at running the boat and taking some of my buddies water skiing. In return they chipped in for gas and helped keep the boat shipshape.
Until, that fateful morning, the Surreys’ daughter, Betsy, home from college for the summer, called to say in whispered tones that she’d discovered the boat was sinking, and that, since I was the last person to have used it, I’d better come down and deal with the problem.
As you might imagine, I was dumbstruck, but had enough sense to realize I needed help. I called my two closest buddies, Don Smith and Jim Glendening, explained my predicament, and asked them to meet me at Surrey’s. Then I rummaged around in the basement for the two biggest buckets I could find and started toward the lake.
Thankfully, Mr. Surrey was already on the commuter train headed to work in Chicago, and Mrs. Surrey was next door at a neighbor’s having coffee. When I got to the boat, I could see it was mostly underwater, held up only by its mooring ropes, which were stretched tight as banjo strings.
Since there had been no rain or violent weather overnight, the only reason for the disaster I could think of was a malfunction of the bilge pump, which must have stayed open after I’d turned the boat motor off.
I reasoned that, if we bailed hard, we could get the bulk of the water out of the boat faster than it could come in, and that with two of us paddling and one of us bailing, we could get the boat out through the channel and around the point to the beach.
An hour of vigorous effort found all of us out of breath but deeply relieved to be pulling the bow of the Chris Craft onto the sand at the near end of the beach. By then Betsy had told her mom what had happened, and Mrs. Surrey came down to the beach and thanked us for getting the boat out of the water.
After she’d gone, we sponged out the interior of the boat, covered it with the fitted tarp, and I commenced waiting an agonizing several hours for the 6:15 commuter train and the return of Mr. Surrey.
Looking back, I’m amazed at how calmly he took the bad news. As we walked side by side down the road from the train station to his house and I explained what had happened, he made it clear to me that I had done nothing wrong.
It was an accident, he said. A mechanical malfunction. When I offered him the key he’d given me, he shook his head and refused to take it.
And when, a month later, he called to tell me the boat had been repaired and was back in the water, he instructed me to bring the key when I came to work the next day, “so after you’re done you can take the boat out for a spin.”

She had taken out a restraining order against him, the latest of several women to do so. She had demanded that he move out of her Huntington Beach apartment. She would not answer his calls.
On the afternoon of Sept. 2, 2020, however, her phone call was interrupted when he appeared inside her apartment. She left a chilling 37-second voicemail message as he attacked her with multiple knives.
“If you listen to it carefully, you hear a woman narrating her own murder,” Orange County Deputy Dist. Atty. Janine Madera told jurors during her closing argument at Charron’s trial in Santa Ana this week.
After less than a day of deliberations, jurors on Tuesday found Charron, 39, guilty of first-degree murder.
Sardinha had worked as a bartender’s assistant, but a motorcycle accident in 2019 left her unable to grab a knife well enough to chop lemons, as the job required. She was pursuing an online psychology degree, and had been dating Charron, an Air Force veteran, for just a few months.
Sardinha had received a $750,000 settlement after her accident, and gave him nearly $100,000 of it, according to testimony. “Thank you for showing me that you are all mine,” he texted her after receiving a sizable chunk.
Two weeks before her murder, Sardinha texted him to say that she could not hear, because he had broken her ear drum. In an exchange she recorded on her phone, she can be heard saying, “You keep hitting me.”
“Massage my calves or end this relationship,” he replied.
On the morning of the day she was killed, Sardinha told a friend that Charron woke her up with a demand for oral sex. She recorded herself begging him to leave her alone and let her sleep.
“Can you please leave?” she asked repeatedly. “Please get away from me.”
“You terrify me, because you don’t leave.”
Later, filming himself in the apartment, he can be heard saying, “Oh my God, don’t hit me … Laura, why are you hitting me?” while she sits on the couch yards away, trying to ignore him.
Just before noon, she went to the leasing office to ask if her locks could be changed. The apartment manager saw Charron approaching and let her hide inside, then walked her back to her apartment. A maintenance man changed her locks.
Charron texted and called, but she ignored him. Around 1:15 p.m., she was on a three-way call with her mom and her best friend when they heard her cry, “Oh my God, he’s here.”
It is not clear how Charron got inside her apartment. By his account, he simply walked through the unlocked door.
After her friend hung up to call 911, Sardinha called her back and left a voicemail message in which she can be heard screaming, “He’s gonna kill me!” and “Get away from me!”
The prosecutor said Charron stabbed Sardinha twice in the chest, nearly sliced her nose off, and stabbed her in the head so hard it bent a pronged tomato knife he was using.
Police arrived soon after to find Sardinha dead, and Charron bleeding from wounds to his chest and neck. The prosecutor suggested he had inflicted them himself with a serrated steak knife to bolster his story that Sardinha had attacked him.
“It doesn’t matter if he self-inflicted wounds or if she defended herself,” Madera said. “He was the aggressor 100% of the time.”
At about 6 feet tall and 220 pounds, he was some 9 inches taller than Sardinha and more than 100 pounds heavier.
“She can’t cut lemons and limes reliably with a knife, let alone defend her life,” Madera said. “He towered over her.”
California
FBI agent Richard Miller acknowledged his secret dealings with the Soviets, but claimed he did so to infiltrate Soviet intelligence and redeem his career.
Taking the stand in his own defense, Charron described himself as a former combat medic with a 100% disability rating who received psychiatric treatment at the VA. He said he could not recall much of the confrontation with Sardinha, calling it “hazy.” But he insisted she had come at him with a knife and that he stabbed her in self-defense.
“I didn’t quite comprehend what was happening in the moment,” he said. “It’s taking me a second to understand I’m being cut up.”
During the trial, three of Charron’s ex-girlfriends testified that they had taken out restraining orders against him. One woman said he choked her and hit her in the head with a wine bottle. Another said he slapped her and poured vodka on her head. A third said he pinned her to a wall and punched a man who was in her company.
“He has a problem with control,” Madera told jurors. “He doesn’t care for women who want to exercise free will.”
In his closing argument, defense attorney Michael Guisti said that although his client had a history of violence, it was “non-murderous violence,” and argued the evidence suggested he might have acted in the heat of passion or in self-defense.
He said Charron’s wounds had been serious enough that he was “basically dead” and had to be revived. “They need you to believe he faked his wounds,” Guisti said.
Madera described Sardinha’s death as “cold-hearted murder” and pointed to the voicemail she left in her last moments.
“You don’t hear the defendant on it, and his silence is absolutely deafening,” she said. “He’s enjoying taking his time killing her.”
Superior Court Judge Michael Cassidy set a sentencing date of July 25. Charron faces the possibility of life in prison.

I saw that my ex-boyfriend was on a trip presenting himself as single

He also denies that the breakup was mutual
“Paige lied on her podcast and said the breakup was mutual,” he tells Andy Cohen
‘I’m announcing it on my podcast.’ And then she said it was mutual
she called me and told me.” Conover says he didn’t really even think the breakup DeSorbo initiated over Thanksgiving was real
“I thought she was having kinda a bad night or a breakdown,” he says
she asked me to plan us a trip to Europe for New Years
She also talked about our wedding in her mom’s kitchen.”
February 12, 2025: In a new interview with Elle

I caught you texting two bitches in the course of our relationship,” DeSorbo says to co-stars Amanda Batula and Lindsay Hubbard
February 17, 2025: Conover denied any claims of cheating that were spilled on Summer House in an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show

2025: The season finale of Southern Charm flashed to January 2025
when Conover talked to fellow Southerners Austen Kroll and Shep Rose about the breakup
“Paige and I had a great Thanksgiving together
like our chemistry and everything …” Conover shared
‘We gotta talk.’” He also shared that he designed an engagement ring for DeSorbo sometime in the spring of 2024
maybe that was her starting to panic or freak out.”
2025: The midseason trailer for Summer House season nine teases more fractures between Paige and Craig
“No one’s gonna hate you if you do what’s best for you.” We know now that is not true; plenty of people hated on Paige for doing what was best for her
We also see more of the post-breakup discussion between Paige
‘I really wish you didn’t do this before you saw the ring,’” Paige says
‘This is why we’re breaking up because I don’t know if you’re lying right now.’” So did she want the ring or not
In the episode that aired Wednesday
we see more of the conversation between Paige and Ciara
during which Paige wonders if she’s dating a “secret hater.” Craig is apparently always asking “what about me?” while she gears up for the Giggly Squad tour
She also says he won’t admit on camera that she has more stuff on her plate than he does his
Paige is confiding in Ciara on the latest episode of SummerHouse. #PaigeDeSorbo #CiaraMiller
March 27, 2025: On WWHL, Conover took the opportunity to transform Andy Cohen’s talk show into a White House press briefing as he responded to DeSorbo’s allegations that he wasn’t supportive of her career. “She did. She felt that way. Again a lot of the stuff that y’all are seeing is misconstrued, and it’s not accurate, and that’s okay. Trust me,” Conover explained
