A haven for exotic car fans is listed for sale in the often-overlooked suburb of Cumming
3,564-square-foot property is equally suitable for new owners with an enthusiasm for entertaining family and friends in style
The home is located within the private Greenbrier Estates
an upscale development that features a beach and stocked lake
Realtor Brett Fine noted even locals sometimes have a challenging time geographically placing Cumming on their mental maps
and the area’s partially rural setting can fly under the radar
despite its advantageous position as part of the West Des Moines School district and located less than a 15-minute drive from major retail hubs
the home’s original 1989 exterior façade and interior layout have been updated in recent years to create a bright and modern environment that Fine described as
an elaborate imported chandelier welcomes guests
The lower-level footprint includes an open-plan layout and a sunken living space
“adds a little bit of character.” The kitchen remodels now include quartz countertops
tile floors and improvements to the cabinetry and appliances
Diners can opt for a formal dining space or casual seating around the kitchen island
four bedrooms are headlined by a spacious primary bedroom
upgraded with an estimated $200,000 budget
“one of the largest I've been in,” Fine added
plus its own outdoor patio and a bathroom with heated tile flooring
On the 1,330-square-foot finished lower level
a gym could be converted into a second home office space
The large kitchen and easy access to the outdoor 1,400-square-foot patio with a wood-burning fireplace were planned to inspire family gatherings and to entertain friends
Although the backyard is missing a water feature
“There is ample room for somebody to add their own dream pool.”
While the house already offers an attached three-car garage
one of the home’s highlights resides inside a separate building at the rear of the property
appropriately dubbed the “car studio” by the current owner
the 1,350-square-foot structure is wired with a dedicated audio system and adds polished floors
and glass windows in roll-up-doors to showcase the collection
But if the next owners are not car enthusiasts
Fine noted the studio already includes a three-quarter bathroom to simplify a bedroom conversion or to set up “an art studio
Fine expressed surprise Cumming is frequently neglected by many home hunters
You've got the beautiful drive out to the property by the Dale Maffitt Reservoir,” he said
“And then the Greenbrier Estates has its own private pond and a private beach
You can canoe or kayak out there if you want
People cruise by on golf carts in the summertime
The home is listed at $1,525,000 by Brett Fine with The Fine Group at RE/MAX Concepts

“We are in truly unprecedented and turbulent times… and we are relying on our individual supporters to help us face these new challenges.”
“We continue to serve our communities by bringing viewers the quality content that commercial media can’t
particularly the absolute best in the performing arts and trustworthy journalism.”
discussed the diversity of WNET’s programming
ranging from nature documentaries with “breathtaking views of the natural world” to “transcendent” arts and culture performances that “lift your soul.”
“It's especially true that we’re here to recognize the vital role that public media plays in the health of our democracy and the future of our country,” he added
suggested that “art has the opportunity to bring us together and unite us
so that we can share and understand how people see the world in a different way
multi-talented Alan Cumming—who hosts PBS’ Masterpiece Mystery and has appeared on other of its programs—sang songs from Broadway shows
including Cabaret (for which he won a Tony Award in 1998 for best actor in a musical)
He also discussed what he feels is “the need for kindness and compassion in the current climate” and talked about his immigration to the U.S
“What I love about PBS is that they are concerned with quality
they are concerned with telling stories that are for everyone
even though we’re told they’re for the elites
and there are fewer and fewer things that are accessible by everyone in this country
“PBS is a symbol of what America should be.”

comes amid a boom for semiconductor projects as public and private groups invest in the space
both public and private groups are sinking billions of investment dollars into the sector as the U.S
“The semiconductor industry is at a pivotal moment
with unprecedented investment and innovation reshaping the landscape,” said Derek Hutchison
“The addition of WWPS aligns with our strategic vision to further strengthen Cumming Group’s position as the premier owner advisory firm for high-tech and advanced manufacturing facilities.”
Contractors are also gearing up for the surge. Skanska USA, the American arm of the Swedish builder and developer, established Skanska Advanced Technology in February
which will focus on high-tech and semiconductor manufacturing
Before that, Edmonton, Alberta-based PCL Construction, which has its U.S. headquarters in Denver, created a new collective, dubbed the Manufacturing Center of Excellence in January
The group will build large manufacturing projects across North America
Cumming Group has made its name in providing services around cost management
scheduling and project controls for project owners
As the industry prepares for the onshoring surge, a forthcoming probe by the U.S. government into chip and electronic imports could lead to new tariffs on materials that broadly affect semiconductors, according to CNBC

The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Cumming Campus will host the third annual Backyard Bash at 6 p.m
April 29 to raise scholarship funds for students attending the Cumming Campus
the event will feature a catered barbecue meal
and lots of fun and camaraderie with local community leaders and Cumming Campus constituents
Citizens Bank of Georgia is the presenting sponsor for the Backyard Bash
Scholarship funds will be raised via a silent auction and other individual donations at the event
The Cumming Campus General Scholarship was established in 2024 to provide financial assistance to students attending the campus who have specific financial needs that make it harder for them to focus on their academic success
Last year's event raised over $6,000 for this scholarship fund
"Our goal is to raise $10,000 for these need-based scholarships this year," Dr. Ken Crowe
executive director of UNG's Cumming Campus
"We realize that starting a scholarship fund from scratch is hard work
but our community has been very supportive of this effort."
If a student is responsible for some component of the cost of the UNG education
they are eligible to apply for up to $500 per semester from this scholarship
38% of students are eligible for the Pell Grant
which can go to students in the lowest-earning households

Operation Mincemeat is a musical as clever and ambitious as the real-life World War II mission that inspired it—a British ruse to fool the Nazis with fake invasion plans planted on a dead body
The song “Dear Bill,” performed by actor Jak Malone as the buttoned-up secretary Hester Leggett
begins as the team tries to concoct a final piece of their plan
it becomes clear she’s using the opportunity to reflect on something deeper and much more personal
It’s a breathtaking moment that stunned audiences in London
Hodgson added, “I think we were so blown away by the sincerity of those lines in the actual letter, that it made us feel like we could be brave enough to put our own selves and our stories into it. Because it felt like those lines are so true that this song deserves truth.”
And so their personal experiences also made their way into “Dear Bill”: a long-distance relationship for Cumming, and the death of Hodgson’s close friend. “This is the one song that we poured a lot of ourselves and our own emotions into,” said Hodgson. “What we tried to put into ‘Dear Bill’ is that feeling of having normality exist alongside the biggest, giant tombs of emotion that you can feel.”
The song is about grief, but they were careful not to weigh it down with too many sad lyrics—because that’s not what you’d put down in a letter. “People navigate their sadness by trying not to hit the point that gives them pain,” Hodgson said, “and I was so overjoyed and overwhelmed by how much people really saw that [in this song]. I don’t think we realized just how universal that experience is.”
Malone, who won an Olivier Award in 2024 for portraying Hester and his other Mincemeat roles, first heard “Dear Bill” before the team decided which of the five-actor ensemble (Malone, Cumming, Hodgson, Roberts, and Claire-Marie Hall) would be playing which characters. He’d been sent the song as a demo and was asked to sing it at an early rehearsal.
During the show, it’s one of the few moments Malone gets to truly anticipate, because he’s off-stage briefly and gets a moment to himself. This is his chance to reset and bring the performance inward while also silently signaling that the audience should brace for impact.
“When Colonel Bevan [played by Roberts] says, ‘He needs to be carrying a letter. Soldiers don’t go off to war without a reminder of why they’re fighting in the first place,’ Hester does a little nod. And I’m thinking to myself, ‘You guys don’t even know what this woman is capable of, and you’re about to find out.’”
Each night, Malone feels the emotion that pours out of Hester. “When I finish the song, I have to really release this tension in my body,” he explained. “It’s not an intentional thing, it’s just my body not knowing the difference. It’s me saying difficult things and thinking about difficult things, and my body going, this is so uncomfortable. So yeah, I put myself through hell for that song.”
“I’m like, ‘Oh, hello everyone. You’re out there,’” Malone shared. “To me, it’s the secret button on the number that we’ve never had before. They sort of breathe the final note of the song. It’s really, really lovely.” A fitting way to sign, seal, and deliver a letter this powerful.
The musical opens at the Imperial Theatre on April 10.

from cameos in cult classics of the aughts to Tony Award-winning performances
but based on how long this role has remained lodged in my memory
In the opening scene of the 2001 Josie and the Pussycats adaptation
record executive Wyatt Frame jumps out of an airplane with a parachute
sending the fictional boy band Du Jour plummeting to their deaths after they discover that the label is sneaking subliminal advertising into their music — and Cumming’s character only gets more ridiculous from there
Wyatt embodies the worst excesses of the final years of the big-label era
and quickly disposing of bands in a furious cycle to find the next big boy or girl group
But it’s Cumming’s perfect moments of slapstick and screwball comedy that really make this often uneven movie as funny as it is

The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is expanding to a third campus
as UNG's Cumming Campus is offering the BSN to students for the first time in fall 2025
UNG plans to have 20 students in the nursing program in Cumming
That number is in addition to the roughly 400 traditional BSN students between the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses and another 80 in the accelerated BSN program in Gainesville
"Our community partners have been asking for this for a long time. The Cumming Campus is very excited for us to be there," Dr. Becky Murck, undergraduate program coordinator and assistant professor in the Nursing Department
the program can be more affordable for students enrolled there
It provides increased accessibility for our students."
UNG's BSN graduates have a 100% job placement rate
they had a 96.74% first-time National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) pass rate
The program is regularly ranked as having the top-scoring students on the NCLEX in the state of Georgia
Dr. Rebekah Mildenhall
associate department head and assistant professor of nursing
said UNG's expansion of nursing to Cumming fits with population growth in the area
"We need to be able to support people's health care needs if these communities are going to be able to thrive as they grow," Mildenhall said
"We are also serving students who live in those areas by providing closer availability of programs."
Suzanne Applegate
simulation coordinator and senior lecturer
said the simulation lab on the Cumming Campus offers cutting-edge technology that provides a safe place to learn nursing skills
"Working in that space bridges the gap between the classroom and clinicals," Applegate said
"This experience enhances patient safety."

Bicon Alan Cumming would like you to remember that he is indeed bisexual
The actor first came out as bisexual in 1998 on the cover of Out Magazine, at the same time that he was taking the stage on Broadway as the Emcee in Cabaret. In 2014, Cumming told NPR that his 1998 role sent “Puritanical shockwaves” around the U.S
and that he was constantly asked about his sexuality
So he decided to “take matters into [his] own hand” with the cover story
which he told NPR “was a good forum for it to be discussed calmly and adultly.”
and it doesn’t necessarily have to do with what you do with the contents of your underpants.”
“It’s more of a sort of sensibility as well,” he added
describing himself as “at the center of it
being super queer with all my crazy outfits.” After lobbying for more LGBTQ+ representation on the reality competition show in his capacity as a producer
this season’s set of winners included two out contestants
“I really did push to have a better representation in the show
But the high camp and dramatics of The Traitors aren’t just a ton of fun to watch — the actor also shared his feelings about the cultural importance of the show’s representation in our current political moment
and attitudes against the queer and trans community in America right now
I think it’s a really positive thing to see so many queer people and
trans people in a show that also celebrates dressing up
we challenge people: If you like all that and you love this show
maybe you shouldn't vote for a party that is trying to demean and destroy those people’s lives.”
I can certainly think of a few trans people who work at a certain gay little website who would absolutely die to join Cumming at Ardross Castle

A sewage spill in Cumming on Monday left thousands of gallons of sewage in a local creek.
A report issued by Cumming Utilities said the spill happened near the Village at Castleberry subdivision on the southwest side of the city. The spill was reportedly caused by a manhole being partially blocked by PVC pipe, rocks, grease and flushable wipes.
Just over 4,000 gallons of sewage spilled into nearby Orr Creek, which was finally resolved by the clog being jetted, allowing the flow to return to normal.
No details were released on the impact to the creek and surrounding area.

The University of North Georgia is expanding the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program to a third campus in Cumming where they will offer the degree for the first time in the fall of 2025.
UNG plans to have 20 students in the nursing program
then plans to expand slightly on an annual basis
This number adds to the roughly 400 traditional BSN students between the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses and an additional 80 accelerated BSN programs in Gainesville
"With Cumming being a commuter campus
It provides increased accessibility for our students."
The Gruduates of UNG have a 100 percent placement rate

"We need to be able to support people's health care needs if these communities are going to be able to thrive as they grow," Mildenhall said

A long-time business on the downtown Cumming square was heavily damaged by fire Sunday night
Forsyth County Fire Department Division Chief Jason Shivers said crews were called to Goodson Drug Company on Maple Street around 7:00 p.m
"When our first units arrived on scene they did
find a working commercial fire," Shivers said
"Goodson Drugs has been on the square for 65 years now
there was an active fire in their building."
Shivers said the fire was brought under control within an hour
but the blaze had already heavily damaged the business
The store was closed at the time and no injuries have been reported
"The folks driving through town this morning were probably shocked to see the damage done to their beloved pharmacy in downtown Cumming," Shivers said
The company posted to social media Monday morning in the aftermath of the fire.
"We are hoping to be able to give copies out for your prescriptions by the end of this week
We highly recommend getting new prescriptions from your doctor and have those prescriptions sent to a pharmacy of your choice," the post said
"We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers
Our goal is to be back open as soon as possible and to continue serving our wonderful community."
The cause of the fire is under investigation
Shivers said the roads in and around the square were shut down while firefighters battled the blaze

Cumming can be found across the globe — and
playing an exaggerated version of himself on Peacock’s hit series “The Traitors.”
Cumming’s increased visibility is undoubtedly tied to his headline-snatching sartorial choices
a long-established element of his celebrity that has been amplified during his time on “The Traitors.”
“People are obsessed with it,” Cumming said on GBH’s The Culture Show
“When people say they’re going to start watching
You’ll miss all your appointments that day.’“
The hit reality TV series was a departure from his other on-screen roles
“I never thought I would be hosting a competition reality show,” Cumming said
“The tone of each episode is reflected in what I wear,” he said
“I always go out of my way to praise costume designers for how much they give actors
Much of my character work is just pinched and appropriated from costume designers.”
The show’s costume designer Sam Spector — who is also Cumming’s personal stylist — had the unique challenge of crafting a character rooted in Alan Cumming himself

A raccoon found along Castleberry Road on Sunday
Forsyth County officials said the raccoon was captured alive near the city of Cumming Fairgrounds
“Upon discovering the injured animal roadside on Sunday
a resident attempted to crate the raccoon,” Forsyth County Animal Services Manager Haley Brown said
“The racoon bit the individual during the process and was subsequently tested and confirmed positive for Rabies after testing at the State Lab.”
Individuals who came into contact with the animal were referred to their healthcare provider and treated for any exposure
“Encounters between wild animals and domestic pets
so we encourage all residents to have their pets vaccinated against the Rabies Virus and be educated on what to do if they encounter a potentially rabid animal,” Brown said
“It is highly discouraged for anyone to attempt handling a wild animal without professional guidance
We ask that anyone encountering a similar situation with a wild animal to contact the Forsyth County Animal Services team as Rabies can be life-threatening if not treated.”
Public health officials will notify any additional individuals exposed to the animal and will inform them of the need to seek medical care if necessary

Actor and TV host Alan Cumming has a new entertainment venture
this time focused on bringing you relaxation while flying
When Alan Cumming moved to New York City in the late ’90s to star as Emcee in the Broadway revival of Cabaret
more than 3,200 miles away from his native Scotland
From those early days performing in Cabaret
during which he ultimately starred in more than 800 performances of the show
Cumming became a beloved fixture of the city’s nightlife
Cumming still lives in New York when he’s not away filming; he continues to bring his energy to the city’s evening entertainment as the owner of Club Cumming in the East Village
a frequently packed nightclub that hosts everything from cabaret performances and tea dances to burlesque and drink-and-draw nights
Cumming is one of Scotland’s most famous actors and embraces his Scottish heritage with pride
Cumming has spotlighted the beauty of Scotland across many of his projects
including in the BBC Select show Scotland’s Poshest Train with Alan Cumming and Channel 4’s Miriam and Alan: Lost in Scotland
he brought the Scottish Highlands to the global stage as host and producer of the deliriously fun Peacock reality show Traitors U.S.
which just wrapped on its third season; for that
he led an eclectic group of reality stars through a treacherous game set in a remote Scottish castle
In another nod to his heritage, Cumming will serve as the Grand Marshall of the 27th-annual Tartan Day Parade in New York City on April 5
It’s an honor that highlights Cumming’s impact on the entertainment industry and celebrates his love for both communities
the actor is bringing his passion for travel to new heights with a collaboration with Virgin Atlantic
Cumming is now the voice behind the airline’s first-ever original bedtime story
called “ReLAX and Unwind with Alan Cumming,” which will soothe travelers to relaxation before takeoff in places like the lounge’s Royal Box and in-flight
by accessing the video on Virgin Atlantic’s YouTube channel
The new bedtime story coincides with the March 27th opening of the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
a new lounge space that caters to the California city’s health and wellness focus
featuring elements that encourage guests to unwind before their flights to the United Kingdom and beyond
I spoke with Cumming about his under-the-radar recommendations in both Scotland and New York
and his latest collaboration with Virgin Atlantic
This interview was edited for clarity and space
It’s actually quite near where I live in Scotland
I have these sort of yearly reunions with a lot of family and extended family that I haven’t seen that much
It’s also nice because [filming Traitors is] sort of like we’re in this bubble
I think of it as this method of me getting away from everybody and nobody can get to me and it’s just this precious little time I have
And the Traitors is kind of similar because it’s such long hours and you basically can’t do anything else
So it’s like you’re in this little work bubble
So the contestants definitely become sort of obsessed and maddened by just being in the show and in the game
I can’t go to sleep until I know who’s been murdered that night
Scotland’s so beautiful. It’s lovely to go to some of these locations and be taken into places that you wouldn’t normally get to go to. I really love the islands on the west coast, the Hebrides and the Outer Hebrides. They’re magical. . . . There’s a thing you can do called the North Coast 500
which is 500 miles around the rim [of northern Scotland]
It’s an area of Scotland that people don’t go to as much
and because of the little roads—there’s a lot of one-track roads—it takes you a long time to get anywhere
even though I’ve done loads of travel shows and shot and gone on vacations and I live there part of the time
there’s still bits of it that I am surprised by
I would also recommend using the train. I love the Royal Scotsman
But it’s absolutely the most magical way to see Scotland
I’m not one of those people to leave it to the last minute
I really want to remind myself that I’m going on a big travel adventure
I like everything sorted and being in the lounge and having some time to relax and kind of just catch up with things so I can put everything to bed
And I always have a Bloody Mary in the lounge
But I actually love making plans to do stuff on a plane
I sort of maybe do it until the drinks and the meal comes around
And then I feel a bit woozy and then watch a film and then conk out and just have a nice sleep
I’d much rather it be a long flight than a short flight
Just because I love that time to yourself and obviously if you’re going swanky class and you can lie down
I usually go to Club Cumming
Like we had viewing parties of the Traitors there when the last season was on
We had the afterparty for my big 60th birthday party there
I’m working so much in Scotland because I run a theater now [there]
and it’s so easy and so lovely to go to Club Cumming
that my own club is kind of clipping my nightlife wings
One place that I’ve not been to for ages, but I do love, is the Russian Baths on 10th Street. They have plunge pools and steam rooms and they hit you with these sticks and eucalyptus things if you want
There’s a place called Post
One of the things I miss being vegan is biscuits and gravy
And they have the most delicious hot sauce there
Another place I love is Tompkins Square Bagels
I always have the sun-dried tomato tofu spread with an everything gluten-free bagel
it’s like an immersive piece of theater,” Alan Cumming tells Afar
It’s a bit like—did you ever see Sleep No More
There’s not people singing or spurting blood
but this idea that as soon as you come in the door
there’s an intention for you to get into a situation where you feel like you want to have a nice snooze
I find that it slightly reminds me of a freezer section of a supermarket with all bits of old cow in little bags
but she used to be a flight attendant in the ’50s
So she’s the one who really drummed it into me
I think it would be Gabby [Windey] from this last season because I love her voice and it sort of feels sweet and childlike but sometimes she’s saying the most biting dirty things
I find her quite soothing and funny as well
I think it’s quite nice to laugh as you go to sleep
It puts you in a good mood and hopefully you’ll have nice dreams
