Palace unites with Cutler and Gross to mark the occasion with a sun-filled collaboration Promoting Britain’s luxury craftsmen Palace reimagines Cutler and Gross’s signature eyewear with a streetwear edge Marking’s Palace’s first luxury eyewear range the brand puts a modern spin on the Mercury The designs take inspiration from the Roman God of Speed reflected in thick-cut frames and gold embellishments Ancient symbols are found throughout the collection featuring gilded coins and engraved wiring His size isn’t what stood out even though being 5’9” and 300 pounds in the offseason is something out of a Batman comic - it was the clarity and intensity with which Jay broke down a life built around mastering the craft of bodybuilding The man didn’t just lift weights or build muscle scaled it and came out the other side healthy and with his body intact What impressed me most was how calculated and intelligent his approach was. Jay was training two to four times a day at his peak, eating seven or eight meals, pounding 1,000 grams of carbs daily while balancing a training volume that is almost unsustainable more mere mortals. Even at the age of 48, he still wakes up at 5am, does his fasted cardio, and trains - zero joint pain, no major injuries and never an excuse. He didn’t just chase greatness, he found a way to engineer it for longevity. We dove into legacy, his rivalries on the stage and how rare it is today to see the battle he had between he and Ronnie in today’s world. Jay admitted that without Ronnie, he might’ve been “great”, but probably not legendary. That kind of friction pushing him to the absolute edge. He credits that rivalry as one of the greatest gifts in his life. Jay’s takeaways weren’t just for aspiring bodybuilders. They were for anyone who's trying to carve out elite performance in their own lane - entrepreneurs, athletes, parents you name it. Be consistent. Avoid shortcuts. Build a structure you can sustain. Monitor your health. Think long game. Whether you’re a Jay Cutler fan, a fan of bodybuilding, or just someone who respects the grind, this episode is a masterclass in what it takes to build greatness from the inside out. No hype, just reps, and years of focus and dedication. Go check out the full episode for the full experience. When the Kentucky Derby (G1) field loads into the starting gate at Churchill Downs May 3 20 jockeys will be envisioning their path to victory When the lucky rider who succeeds hits the finish line his photo will be taken from countless angles and be published An exercise rider for trainer Ian Wilkes, Cutler had ridden Burnham Square during his 2-year-old training and has reunited with the horse the team calls "Burny" when the 3-year-old returned to Kentucky from his winter in Florida Cutler left school with aspirations to be a jockey Leaving his native New England for Florida he worked at Cardinal Hill Farm for Norman Casse father of dual Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse where he galloped at tracks like Suffolk Downs and Rockingham Park from 1989-2003 As the New England Thoroughbred circuit began to shut down Cutler made the move to Kentucky and joined the team of Hall of Fame trainer Carl Nafzger who was co-training with Wilkes at the time Cutler became the regular exercise rider for Street Sense winner of the 2006 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) and 2007 Kentucky Derby he's hoping he can prepare another runner to wear the roses on the first Saturday in May Sign up for BloodHorse Daily BloodHorse: What is Burnham Square like to ride in the morning Mark Cutler: He's a nice horse to ride We didn't give him a day off this week because if he gets a day off he starts kicking the stall and makes my job difficult BH: Is there anything specific you do to help him relax on the track He tends to begin his works pulling with his head low and then gets into a groove as he goes MC: He tries to take off and get going and do too much early I've got to keep him a little slowed down he starts to relax and just falls into a nice rhythm and can finish the gallop nice and relaxed BH: What led you to become an exercise rider MC: My mom had horses when I was a kid; she took me to the races I started at Suffolk Downs and Rockingham Park which unfortunately there's no more New England racing That was one of the things that forced me here (to Churchill Downs) and I had to go somewhere—Saratoga or Churchill I wanted to find a Derby horse; that was my dream I started working for Carl Nafzger in 2004 I actually quit one winter because I was offered a really good job in Ocala that I knew was a bad idea can I please have my job back?' That was the year that Street Sense showed up in 2006 that spring BH: When you started riding Street Sense how did you see him grow and develop as he approached the 2007 Kentucky Derby MC: I first got on him in early summer as a 2-year-old Some other different riders were getting on him One rider wasn't getting along with him I'd really like to get on him.' I just became his rider He's a much different horse than Burny That's Burny's great quality: his stamina He can just keep going and going and going are there any similarities between Street Sense and Burnham Square and it would take him 10-15 minutes to get there because he was checking everything out but it's just a different aura about him Burny is a little bit of a clown sometimes He's going to the track trying to bite the pony BH: You're on these horses every single morning but what is it like being in the stands seeing that work payoff when Street Sense wins races like the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby You put all that work into them and just ask is he going to get hurt?' There's so many things that can happen It's nerve-wracking and fun all at the same time BH: You rode Burnham Square in the fall as a 2-year-old, you were not with him during the winter at Gulfstream Park Did you see a change in him when he got back?  horses would come near him and he'd jump away That's one of the reasons he needs the blinkers he's going to get the job done Saturday BH: Working for trainers like Carl Nafzger and Ian Wilkes is there anything you've picked up from them that helped make you a better exercise rider I've had other trainers like that in the past but it's a little more important with some of these horses I had already been riding quite a while when I got here, and the things that I do BH: Wilkes was right alongside Nafzger for that win with Street Sense but is now trying to win a Derby under his own name What does it mean for you and the whole Wilkes team to be back in the Derby spotlight all these years later it's really special because I quit riding five years ago I decided that I didn't want to do it anymore For me to come back and them give me the job back BH: When you were off for those five years MC: I have another job that I go to after (training) maybe I should go do that full-time and give this up I want to give it a shot.' I came down here (to Churchill Downs) on a Sunday morning two years ago in April and see if I could find a job with somebody and I asked him if he knew anyone that needed a rider "Ian just had a guy quit yesterday." I walked over and said I'd like to work for you again EberhardtMark Cutler watching Burnham Square during his bath You leave Wilkes and come back—did you get another Derby winner when you came back BH: There's probably not too many exercise riders who have had the chance to prepare two Kentucky Derby winners I wish everyone could experience this; what it's like to be around a horse like this We do this every day with all kinds of different horses I'm also a hockey player; I love hockey I can just imagine how those guys feel when they win that This horse (Burnham Square) makes me work a little harder. If we do get this When I first came down here that Sunday to find a job What if we could do it again?' Phase 1 project focusing on the Cutler Wetlands Flow-way component Several residents have inquired about recent clearing of trees and plants along SW 87th Ave and SW 232 Street and we are providing the following information to address these concerns Project Overview: The Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands project is a key component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) This multi-phase project is designed to restore freshwater flows to Biscayne Bay and improve the coastal wetland ecosystem The Cutler Wetlands project specifically includes features such as the construction of the S-701 Pump Station and a spreader swale system to improve freshwater distribution Construction began in November 2022 and is anticipated to be completed by September 2025 Tree and Vegetation Clearing: As part of this project tree and plant clearing is required in certain areas to facilitate the construction of the necessary infrastructure This clearing is taking place along SW 87th Ave and SW 232 Street to support the C-701 conveyance channel and C-702 spreader canal The South Florida Water Management District has obtained the necessary permits from Miami-Dade County’s Division of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) and the State of Florida to clear invasive vegetation in these areas These efforts are crucial for the proper functioning of the flow-way which will help restore water flow and improve habitat conditions in the area Project Benefits: The project will not only help restore freshwater flow into Biscayne Bay but it will also play a critical role in preserving and rehydrating the natural mangroves that line the coastal areas of our town protecting the Town of Cutler Bay from storm surges and other natural threats Recreational Features: Once the Cutler Wetlands project is completed it will also provide new recreational opportunities for residents and visitors The project will include a bird-watching facility allowing nature enthusiasts to observe the local wildlife in its restored habitat walking and bicycle paths will be constructed throughout offering scenic routes for outdoor activities and fostering a greater connection to the natural beauty of the area These features are designed to promote eco-friendly recreation while preserving the integrity of the wetlands Additional Information: For more details, please refer to the presentation slides from the recent Town Council Meeting which provide an in-depth look at the project’s features and current construction progress You can also view the recording of the presentation below Contact Information: If you have any questions or concerns We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to restore and preserve our natural environment through this important project career trajectories and provided really insightful advice as to how to proceed with our careers.” researches the operationalizing of international rape laws in Southeast Asia particularly the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) Her work is done through comparative international human rights law study by focusing on three countries that practice predominantly different religions: Indonesia “The goal is to see how much socioculture and religion play a role in an international law being operationalized CEDAW requires a state to train judges in gender sensitivity when it comes to dealing with gender violence I want to see to what extent this training actually worked and whether one religion is more progressive than the others.” Although she was once a corporate lawyer in Indonesia Gunawan hopes to pursue an academic career and has long been a feminist activist co-authoring the book Feminism Nusantara.  She said that one of her major takeaways from the conference where she was part of the human rights group was hearing from experts on how to publish in legal academia such as shorter blog pieces rather than long journal articles that can take years to be published She also valued the networking opportunities “It not only was a place to network with other universities,” she said “but also with the other Michigan students because we actually became really close during this event.”  Dmytro Soldatenko’s research focus on collective countermeasures and collective enforcement of international law starts from a very personal place—he is a native of Ukraine.  he is looking at the array of nonforcible means of influence by third parties on states that violate international law “An ongoing debate is Russian assets abroad,” he said “And the debate is whether Western countries can freeze those assets and seize them and some people are advocating that collective countermeasures are allowed under international law states are often hesitant to use them.”  while collective countermeasures are permissible under international law if there is no clear framework for their application states are hesitant to use this tool of enforcement.  One of the faculty members in his small group specializes in the area of countermeasures so he said he gained valuable feedback from her for his research few others in the group had a similar project but that worked to his advantage.  “It generally does not really matter whether the people are experts in this field because as long as people have a general understanding of international law “It’s even better to have the view outside the narrow topic Brooke Tatum transferred to Michigan Law last fall and was thrilled to attend the conference along with so many others who had deeper backgrounds in international law She noted that she values the input she received on her paper which focuses on the international right to health and vaccine equity across Africa She derived inspiration for the paper from her fall 2024 class on Africa and the Global Legal System “I wrote a research paper that I will now focus more on international law and the actions of international organizations,” she said The theme of the paper meshed well with the conference theme International Law: Comparative Voices and Viewpoints As part of the conference’s human rights group she received substantial feedback that helped provide a stronger framework for her paper I’ve only taken a couple of international law classes whereas some of the other students are LLMs who have already practiced international law and others are 3Ls who’ve taken more classes,” she said “So just getting substantive feedback on my executive summary was really helpful.” after a long
