— A 78-year-old Daleville man was arrested this week on allegations he had used his home computer to access child pornography
Michael Dean Morrow was taken into custody Wednesday after a search warrant was served at his home in the 6500 block of South Delaware County Road 800 West
preliminarily charged with two counts of possession of child pornography
was released from the Delaware County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond
According to a report by an Indiana State Police detective
the investigation leading to Wednesday's raid began in September when an Indianapolis police detective received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
Authorities determined images — showing "both prepubescent male and female minors engaging in sexual acts" both with other children and adults — had been accessed by a computer that was allegedly in Morrow's home
Morrow "admitted to using his computer" to access child pornography
The Daleville man reportedly acknowledged he was aroused by such images and said he looked at child pornography "weekly," the court document said
Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman's office will determine whether formal charges will be filed
Court records reflect no prior arrest or charges for Morrow

DALEVILLE — Daleville softball senior Zoe Shihemi has a ritual when she steps into the batter's box
It's called 'Never Lost,' it's by Elevation Worship
I always sing it when I'm up to bat," Shihemi said
Shihemi was singing that song in the bottom of the seventh inning on Monday
Daleville had just rallied in the final frame to tie the game after trailing since the first inning
and Shihemi was due up with the bases loaded and a chance to walk it off for the Broncos
sending the ball deep into left field and allowing the winning run to score
"It couldn't have happened to the right kid at the right moment," Daleville coach Jeremy Pattengale said
"I walked up to her before that at bat and I said
'The game ends with you.' She took that to heart
then we came back and she made it happen."
Daleville (4-1) struggled offensively for most of the game
while Blackford (2-3) got off to a hot start
The Bruins got on the board in the top of the first after an RBI double from freshman Gracie Townsend-Strait
Blackford scored another run in the third on another RBI double
struggled to get on base and couldn't take advantage when they did
Daleville left runners stranded at second and third base in both the first and third innings and went down in order in the second and fourth innings
Daleville finally got on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI single from junior Miley Womack that allowed senior Emily Simmons to score and make it a 2-1 game

Blackford junior Serenity Lehman smashed a solo home run over the centerfield fence to stretch the Bruins lead back to two runs
as she pitched the whole game and finished with eight strikeouts while also going 3-for-4 with the home run
and she's a hitter," Blackford coach Scott Cagle said
she's been putting the ball into play harder
so she wants the ball in her hands all the time."
Daleville had one more chance in the bottom of the seventh
Sophomore Liberty Clevenger started the frame with a single
and freshman pinch runner Addison Whitworth got to third after two wild pitches
After a walk of Simmons put runners at the corners
Womack hit her second RBI single of the game to cut the deficit in half and put Simmons at third base
With the game hanging in the balance and the tying run at third base
Daleville's most trusted bat came to the plate and delivered
Senior Valyn Pattengale stepped up with a sacrifice fly into right field that allowed Simmons to use her speed and get home to tie the game 3-3
I feel really good with runners in scoring position," Pattengale said
"She's a big time player when that happens
With the score knotted and Pattengale's sacrifice representing the only out
Daleville had a chance to walk it off in regulation
so it's really good to see everyone get hyped up and everyone contribute
it wasn't just on one person," Shihemi said
"Liberty (Clevenger) came out and she got us going with that first hit
so it's really good to see everyone contribute."
Daleville is now on a three-game winning streak and will look to stretch that streak on the road at Eastern Hancock (3-5) on Tuesday
will return home for its next contest to host Shenandoah (4-1) on Wednesday

DALEVILLE, VA – “It happened so fast,” Wes Derby said.
Being hit by a car is a possibility Wes Derby has faced his entire life, but when it actually happened, it still turned his world upside down.
“All I could think is, ‘Oh my god, I’m going to die,’” Derby said.
Derby is blind but has learned to navigate life independently.
Have the day's biggest stories arrive in your inbox every day at 8 p.m.
“If I want to go somewhere, I get up and go, but now I have to think about, ‘Okay, can I afford the Uber to go there, because I’m not walking,’” he said.
Derby and his housemates all face unique challenges. One roommate shares his blindness, while the other has lived with a traumatic brain injury since her teen years.
On Tuesday, they were walking home from a restaurant in the Town Center, less than five minutes from their home, when a truck hit them in the crosswalk.
“All I remember is Helen screaming, impact, I fall face first. Helen is probably about ten feet in front of me because she flew over the hood of the truck, and then Clara is screaming behind me,” he said.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene in minutes.
Derby and his roommates were taken to the hospital, where one has a number of broken bones, and the other is set to have her jaw wired shut.
“The final verdict for me was a broken left hand. I had lacerations on my knees, my head, my hands, my wrists,” Derby said.
They’re thankful to have survived, but Derby points out that this incident highlights a bigger issue: the safety of blind individuals.
“A lot of blind people do end up getting hit by cars; it’s just a thing that happens,” he said.
They picked the Daleville Town Center because of its walkability.
“Have you ever felt unsafe doing that?” 10 News Anchor Abbie Coleman asked.
“No, not until this time. Although, I’ll tell you, it’s given me pause before wanting to walk anywhere,” Derby said.
The 29-year-old Jordan Cox driver is charged with failing to yield to pedestrians.
“To Jordan Cox, if he is watching, man, I forgive you for what happened. I know you didn’t leave your house and say, ‘Hey, I’m going to mow down three disabled people in my truck. I don’t know you, but I’m sure you’re not that kind of person,” Derby said.

GASTON — Wes-Del softball trailed Daleville
The Warriors' offense had been stymied all game
and they had one last chance to make something happen to avoid a third straight loss
Wes-Del got its first spark when freshman Tori Ward reached on a single
followed by junior Ansley Draper reaching on an error
Junior Keylie Byrd turned that spark into a flame with an RBI double
and junior Marley Bertram stoked that flame with a two-RBI triple that made it a one-run game
Wes-Del senior Kenzie Anderson tied the game with an RBI single
The Warriors went on to complete the miraculous comeback
scoring on an error in the bottom of the ninth inning to knock off its Mid-Eastern Conference rival 5-4
"We've been having problems getting (runners) in
and it was like that for most of the game until the seventh inning," Wes-Del coach Andy Swift said
the girls stuck together and made it happen."

Wes-Del senior Bailee West had a stellar performance in the circle
allowed six hits and two walks with no earned runs and logged a career-high 16 strikeouts
"My curveball was really working today," West said
"It's just all about having that confidence."
Wes-Del's (2-3) offense was held off the scoreboard through the first six innings despite managing their fair share of base hits
The Warriors looked like they would be first to score when they loaded the bases with one out in the first inning
but a double play by Daleville (1-1) sophomore Maddie Rees kept them off the scoreboard
The Broncos got the scoring started in the third inning after some errors in the field by the Warriors
Sophomore Ashlyn McMillion reached first on an error that brought senior Emily Simmons to third
and Simmons stole home on the ensuing at-bat
Senior Valyn Pattengale brought McMillion home with an RBI single
then scored herself after another error to take a 3-0 lead
Wes-Del only got one runner on base between the fourth and sixth innings
but West locked in and started racking up strikeouts to keep it a three-run game
Daleville added another unearned run in the seventh after Rees reached on an error
eventually scoring when freshman Lilly Malone was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded
the Warriors had the winning run on base with only one out
but a line drive off the bat of senior Devyn Jaycox went straight into the glove of Simmons
who made the throw to first for the double play and forced extra innings
West only allowed one hit and picked up three more strikeouts to keep Daleville off the board
Wes-Del got some more timely hitting in the ninth from Byrd
but it was two errors by Daleville that cost the Broncos the game
After Bertram reached first and advanced Byrd to second on an error at second base
With two outs and the winning run at third
another error at first base on a ground ball by Jaycox allowed Byrd to get home and walk it off for the Warriors
"We dropped the ball," Daleville coach Jeremy Pattengale said
Daleville will look to bounce back when the Broncos host Cambridge City Lincoln on Wednesday and Monroe Central on Thursday
Wes-Del moves to the top of the MEC standings and will host Southwood on Wednesday and Randolph Southern on Thursday

Daleville (7-15) got the evening started with a 75-62 win over Tri-Central (9-14)
The Broncos' whole rotation was hot from 3-point range
as they got 14 total 3-pointers from seven different players
"Today was just a good day that everything was kind of knocking down," Daleville coach Ashley Fouch said
and that's just really what makes or breaks us
If we're patient behind the three-point line
So it was really nice to just see some of the players that usually don't knock down threes confidently shoot that ball."

As is usually the case for Wes-Del, senior Josiah Love led the scoring with 28 points
Fellow senior Gabriel Becerra also had an impressive night with 16 points and shot 3-for-4 from 3-point range
but the Warriors maintained a competitive fire throughout
Even after taking a 20-point lead into the final quarter

Our goal is to win three," Wes-Del coach Josh Burkett said

— Only five women have ever coached a boys basketball team in the state of Indiana
None of them had ever won a sectional championship
Ashley Fouch led the Daleville Broncos as they prevailed 64-60 over the Northfield Norsemen in the IHSAA Class 1A Sectional 55 championship
The win gave Daleville (9-15) its first sectional title since 2009
and Fouch became the first woman in state history to coach a boys basketball team to a sectional championship
"I haven't even thought about that," Fouch said
I just give all of this credit to these boys
and I give all the credit to my coaching staff
there are so many pieces that go into this team

Fouch was the girls coach at Daleville for three seasons before taking a job at Whiteland for one season. In 2021, she returned to Daleville as boys coach
She led the Broncos to the sectional title game in her first and second seasons but came up short both times
This season, Fouch's Broncos were a heavy underdog in Sectional 55. They entered the tournament with the second-worst record in the group and had a less than 10% chance to win the sectional according to John Harrell's model.
That underdog mentality fueled Daleville through its three sectional wins
The Broncos thumped Tri-Central 75-62 on Wednesday and won a tight battle with county foe Wes-Del
on Friday before finishing it off on Saturday against Northfield (11-14)
The sectional run started with a letter that she wrote to her team Monday
and I just kept pounding on the word resilient
because this is exactly what this team's been is resilient," Fouch said
and our record doesn't look like we're supposed to be here right now
but all of the stuff that we went through is just like resilience
Daleville's championship win was spearheaded by its senior guard duo
including two free throws in the final seconds to ice the game
The backcourt tandem has embodied Daleville's resilience all season
Colvin is typically the smallest player on the court
but he wasn't deterred against the Norsemen
his year was complicated by transfer rules that forced him to sit out the first six games of the season
Meshing into the offense was a process for Suchyna
but he got into his zone at the perfect time
We just had to keep composure," Suchyna said
Colvin is the lone Daleville player who has been on the team for all four of Fouch's seasons
she has full confidence in you," Colvin said
and just as long as we play hard she's there with us."
As the final seconds ticked off the clock in the final
Colvin dribbled toward the Daleville bench and was the first player to reach his coach
Fouch and Colvin shared a celebratory bear hug
"He understands what Daleville basketball is all about
and I just wouldn't be the coach that I am without him."

Daleville senior Joshua Wilson was Foster's primary matchup
"Josh Wilson definitely took that assignment to heart," Daleville coach Ashley Fouch said
you can't expect much more from a kid that is a head shorter than he is
Daleville senior Hunter Suchyna drew similar attention on the other end
but he fought through it for a strong start as the Broncos took an early lead
Monroe Central reclaimed that lead by the end of the first quarter
The emotional intensity of the rivalry matchup hit a boiling point in the second quarter
who had remained calm despite the early frustrations
converted a tough and-one and immediately drew a technical foul when his celebratory yell brought him face-to-face with Daleville's Cooper Sexton
as Foster and Sexton had a positive exchange after the technical free throws
and both teams kept their emotions in check for the rest of the game
the momentum shifted in Monroe Central's favor as Foster got into a groove as a scorer and distributor
I got my second wind because I wasn't feeling great
Foster is usually the star of the show for the Golden Bears
but it was an unsung hero who led the way to the regional title
Junior Ta'Shaun Beatty came off the bench and provided a big energy boost
I love the crowd and student section; they gave us the boost we needed every time
They're always at our back no matter what's happening."
The Golden Bears dominated the regular-season matchup with their Mid-Eastern Conference rival
Daleville had made significant strides since then and was playing its best basketball coming into the matchup
it's like their chemistry has gotten a lot better," Klein said
"You could watch their sectional and tell that to change their energy
their want-to for each other was a lot better
That's attributed to Coach Fouch and that team."
Although Daleville came up short of the school's first-ever regional title
Fouch was proud of the way her team carried itself throughout their postseason run that surprised everyone but the Broncos
no quit,' foundation that was already being built for the last four years
and it's exactly what I needed out of them," Fouch said
so I'm happy that they made a little bit of history with me."
Ala (WDHN) — The Dale County Coroner’s office is investigating a weekend death believed to be linked to hypothermia
According to Dale County Coroner John Cawley
the body of a 42-year-old man was found in an “extremely cold” home on County Road 109 in Daleville at around 3:00 p.m
Coroner Cawley says he believes the man died sometime Saturday night from hypothermia
“It is a strong possibility it was a hypothermia death,” said Coroner Cawley
The body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy and the exact cause of death

Suchyna averages 18.8 points and can score at every level with great touch under the basket and a good outside shot
Colvin ranks second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points and is an excellent distributor
He caught fire from 3-point range throughout the sectional tournament
who missed the first six games due to transfer eligibility rules
Daleville is a different team with Suchyna on the floor and should make the rematch more interesting

The 6-foot-4 forward averages 21.7 points and is a matchup nightmare for most teams in the paint
but he can also step outside to shoot over the defense
Because Foster commands so much attention inside
Ullom and Morgan are often able to get good looks from 3-point range
and both are legitimate outside threats when they get hot

Wapahani is looking to get back to Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Wapahani's greatest strength is its elite defense

and homes are on the market slightly longer than they used to be over the last couple of years
The median days on the market was 17 days in February
The report shows that’s two more days than February 2024
homes sell after 24 days compared to 16 days last year
So there’s more opportunity for buyers to be able to actually shop
see it and take time to make a decision,” said Broker Landon Johnson with Five Stone Realty
10 News asked if the prices of homes have increased and was told there isn’t much difference from last February to this February
It was about a 30% increase from what was on the market last year to this year
It just gives buyers more opportunity to shop around,” said Johnson
The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors reported that 306 homes were sold this February, and the average home price was $328,784. Last February, 310 homes were sold, and the average home price was $328,325.
The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors serves Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke Counties. The group also serves Roanoke and Salem Cities.
Johnson noted that right now, there are about 750 to 800 homes on the market in the Roanoke area selling between $250,000 to $300,000 for a single-family home.
He said some advice for anyone who has a home on the market is to meet with an agent who knows how to stage, market and price the property well.
“That’s the number one indicator of how fast a home will sell. If you price it right, and if you have it in good condition, it shows well,” said Johnson.
Johnson advised that if you’re looking to buy right now, it’s important to have a good agent as well.
“Get with a good agent that’s going to teach you how to make offers, how to shop for homes, and things that are important to you. And also get with a good lender that’s going to give you information on what you can afford and what that payment ultimately looks like on a monthly basis,” said Johnson.
For anyone concerned about a recession, Johnson offered this advice: “I think in Roanoke, the market is going to dictate kind of what you need to do. And so it would be just what works best for you and your circumstance. So again, just taking your time and educate yourself,” said Johnson.
As for the Wrights, Naomi Wright said they have already found a home they want to buy.
They are just waiting to sell their current home that they bought for a little under $300,000. However, with the renovations they made, they’re selling it for $400,000.
“It’ll be sad to leave this place, but we’ll be happy to start fresh in a new place with new memories,” said Wright.
