unidentified drones hovering high in the sky
Some have questioned whether the drones pose a national security risk
The FBI and Pentagon haven't provided much information to counter various theories of who sent the drones
government claims there's no evidence indicating a foreign adversary is responsible
Officials also state there's no immediate safety threat
suggesting the drones could be legally manned aircraft
Drones have been spotted on dozens of occasions since November
including near President Elect Donald Trump's Bedminster Golf Course
Now a prominent Marylander says the drones have reached our backyard
On Thursday night former Governor Larry Hogan said he personally witnessed several drones flying above his home in Davidsonville
posting it to his X (formerly Twitter) account
Last night, beginning at around 9:45 pm, I personally witnessed (and videoed) what appeared to be dozens of large drones in the sky above my residence in Davidsonville, Maryland (25 miles from our nation’s capital). I observed the activity for approximately 45 minutes. Like… pic.twitter.com/Ipx8ctLmhs
I do not know if this increasing activity over our skies is a threat to public safety or national security
But the public is growing increasingly concerned and frustrated with the complete lack of transparency and the dismissive attitude of the federal government," Hogan wrote on X Friday
criticized the federal government's response to what seems to be a growing issue
"The government has the ability to track these from their point of origin but has mounted a negligent response
People are rightfully clamoring for answers
We are being told that neither the White House
or Homeland Security have any idea what they are
or who has launched or is controlling them–and that they pose no threat
I join with the growing bipartisan chorus of leaders demanding that the federal government immediately address this issue
The American people deserve answers and action now," Hogan continued

DAVIDSONVILLE – Elizabeth Brownlee had just completed leading a class on women of the Old Testament at Holy Family Church in Davidsonville when a participant approached her with a sketchbook
I was inspired by the Holy Spirit,’” Brownlee recalled Shana McDonough telling her
Miriam and other Old Testament women the class had discussed
“I saw them and – holey moley,” said Brownlee
who presented the work to the parish council and urged them to find a permanent home in the church building
The 13 sketches are now framed and awaiting installation on a wall next to a Knights of Columbus display
“The Holy Spirit must really want this to work,” Brownlee said
noting that the class just ended in November and the project is coming together easily
the sketches were “quite a surprise.” While she has taken art classes over the years
she was surprised how moved she was to sketch each historical woman after class
“It is so funny how God works,” McDonough said
It was while living in Italy that she found the Catholic Church after attending RCIA
the RITE of Christian Initiation for Adults classes with friends
She and her infant daughter were baptized together
The mother of four also started taking art classes while living in Europe
“I was learning Hungarian and noticed my teacher had her art all over the place,” McDonough said
‘Your mind is going to be very critical of your work,’” McDonough said
“I looked down and thought ‘that is the best circle I’ve ever made.’”
Another teacher suggested she sit down with a blank canvas
pray and create whatever the Holy Spirit showed her
“That was the beginning of me listening to the Holy Spirit and creating
She vividly remembers being in eucharistic adoration when she believes Jesus gave her an image of a relative who had just been diagnosed with breast cancer
She was told to paint a picture of her and Jesus together
“She ended up getting healed,” McDonough said
she could see God was with her in the midst of her journey with cancer
She now is co-leading a Wild Goose 14- part video series by Father Dave Vivonka on the Holy Spirit at Brownlee’s suggestion
“I always have to be pushed by the Spirit,” McDonough said
She never expected all the fuss over her sketches
which she did quickly with oil pastels and with little thought other than Googling each woman for basic research
“For those of us who went through (the class
it helps) to envision what they look like,” said Cyndi Zajic
Holy Family’s coordinator of family and fellowship ministry
Zajic said the parish council plans to create calendars and note cards featuring the sketches for future fundraisers
“I would never have thought about going in that direction,” McDonough said
She admitted that she was at first uncomfortable with the thought of her sketches on display
but it really is a collaboration with everyone,” McDonough said
crediting the participants in the women of the Old Testament class as well as the parish council for their roles in the project
there are so many frustrations,” McDonough said

Larry Hogan on Friday said he spotted “dozens” of drones over his home Thursday night as questions mount over unexplained drone activity
on Thursday accused the Pentagon of being “incredibly stupid” with its handling of recent drone sightings in his home state
The Biden administration’s Department of Defense on Wednesday denied the congressman's claim that an Iranian "mothership" is involved in recent unexplained drone sightings
Hogan joined those calling for answers in a lengthy post shared via X in which he described his own brush with the mysterious drones
I personally witnessed (and videoed) what appeared to be dozens of large drones in the sky above my residence in Davidsonville
Maryland (25 miles from our nation’s capital),” he wrote
“I observed the activity for approximately 45 minutes.”
Attached was a video showing several lights floating through a night sky
describing growing public concern and frustration over the sightings
should use its technology to determine the origin of the drones
“We are being told that neither the White House
or who has launched or is controlling them–and that they pose no threat,” he wrote
“That response is entirely unacceptable,” Hogan added
“I join with the growing bipartisan chorus of leaders demanding that the federal government immediately address this issue
The American people deserve answers and action now.”
Reacting to the post was former Colorado state Rep
“For those who have forgotten or never knew about it
there were significant drone sightings in Colorado just before the pandemic,” he wrote
New York Post journalist Steven Greenstreet suggested
the lights in the video match the constellation Orion
Flight data around the time Hogan claimed to have filmed the video
shows three planes flying near his location
An unscientific poll of readers of The National News Desk on Friday found 95% agreed the government should “shoot down unidentified drones to determine their origin.”
on Monday called for a “limited state of emergency” to ban all drones until the public receives answers about the drone sightings

Larry Hogan said he saw dozens of large drones in the sky above his Anne Arundel County home
saying the lights he spotted were "clearly" a constellation of stars
Hogan posted a video on Friday about bright lights in the night sky
saying he witnessed the activity around 9:45 p.m
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert poked fun at Hogan during his Monday night monologue
saying that was not the former governor's only drone sighting
And a smaller ladle too like pouring into the bigger one!" Colbert joked alongside a satirical X post from the governor showing an image of the Big and Little Dipper constellations
Hogan also slammed the federal government's response to the growing number of drone sightings reported in numerous states including New Jersey
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has received thousands of tips since opening an investigation into the mysterious drone sightings
Federal authorities said Monday evening that the sightings have included legal commercial drones
helicopters and even stars mistakenly reported as drones
experts say what he witnessed might not have been an aircraft but the constellation Orion
His original X post now includes a community note stating
"The stars at the 39-second mark are recognizably the constellation Orion
From this you can determine that the bright lights behind the trees are the stars Sirius and Procyon
"No anomalous objects are apparent in this video."
In an interview with the Baltimore Sun
University of Maryland Observatory director Elizabeth Warner said Monday that it was immediately apparent to her that Hogan’s video depicted Orion
“I would be extremely embarrassed if I were him,” Warner told the Sun
“It’s so clearly a constellation of stars through trees.”
In a statement shared on Facebook on Monday
Hogan said that while some of what people are seeing may involve planes or other objects
federal officials still need to offer more explanation about their origin or purpose
"It is absolutely critical that the agencies and leaders tasked with safeguarding our national security stop gaslighting the American people," Hogan said
"Their lack of response to date is disgraceful and dangerous

2024 at 7:24 pm ET.css-79elbk{position:relative;}Monday's full moon is a true blue moon
It is also the first of four consecutive supermoons — will Maryland's weather cooperate to see it
(Shutterstock)MARYLAND — The rare blue moon coming to the skies above Maryland on Monday
it’s also the first of four consecutive supermoons
but it will appear a bit bigger and brighter than normal as it rises in the east just after sunset
The National Weather Service forecast for early next week — the moon will appear full from Sunday through Wednesday — calls for rain Sunday night
mostly cloudy skies Monday before clear skies move in Tuesday and Wednesday nights
Monday’s full moon is a blue moon under the traditional definition
the term “blue moon” has been used in common usage for the second full moon of a month
As NASA describes it, a seasonal blue moon is the third full moon that occurs in an astronomical season that has four full moons instead of the usual three
The first recorded use of the term in English was in 1528
with speculations including the origin of the term was “betrayer moon” because it led to mistakes in setting the dates for Lent and Easter
“it may be a comparison to rare events such as when dust in the atmosphere makes the moon actually appear blue.”
“Supermoon” is a term coined in 1979 by astrologer Richard Nolle to describe the phenomenon when the moon’s orbit is closest to Earth
the biggest and brightest full moons of the year have become a favorite among skywatchers
and Monday’s won’t be the most impressive in the string of four supermoons coming our way
That’s because some lunar perigees come closer to Earth than others
the moon can appear 14 percent larger and about 16 percent brighter
17 are “virtually tied for the closest of the year,” NASA says
Before anyone started using terms like “supermoon,” full moons were given names to help Native American tribes and others keep track of the seasonal changes that dictated the lives of their communities
August’s full moon is often called the “full sturgeon moon” because it’s the time of year when sturgeon
a staple for Native Americans in the region
were easily caught in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain
including the “flying up moon,” which the Cree used to describe the time of year when young birds fledge their nests
Other names include the “corn or green corn moon,” the “barley moon,” the “herb moon,” the “grain moon,” and the “dog moon,” according to NASA
Sept. 18’s full supermoon will be a super harvest moon, and it will also undergo a partial lunar eclipse
17 full supermoon will be a super hunter’s moon
and the closest to Earth of the four — though as NASA noted
15 full supermoon will be the super beaver moon
Ham radio operators from the Anne Arundel Radio Club
the largest amateur radio club in Anne Arundel County
will participate in a national amateur radio exercise from 2 p.m
ARRL Field Day” (www.arrl.org/FieldDay) is an annual amateur radio event organized since 1933 by the American Radio Relay League
the National Association for Amateur Radio in the United States
and part emergency exercise – all on display at the Davidsonville Family Recreation Center at 789 Queen Anne Bridge Road
The public and media are invited to attend this free event to observe and chat with Anne Arundel Radio Club ham radio operators
and perhaps get on the air and speak with someone in other areas of the country
“Hams” located across North America participate in ARRL Field Day by establishing temporary ham radio stations in public locations to demonstrate their skill and service
bring people together while providing essential communication in the service of communities,” explains Bill Ryan N3RY
Ryan notes that the event highlights ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent
Hams from all over the world will be “on the air” all at the same time during the 24-hour period
reaching out to any and all participants anywhere on the planet to establish contacts
For those radio clubs competing for bragging rights
the club with the most confirmed contacts at the end of the 24-hour event receives national recognition
This year’s event is also noteworthy given that a particularly active hurricane season is predicted
Ham-based communications could be crucial when other forms of two-way communications are interrupted by storm damage
“Hams have a long history of serving our communities when storms or other disasters damage critical communication infrastructure
“Ham radio functions completely independently of the internet and phone systems
and a station can be set up almost anywhere in minutes
Hams can quickly raise a wire antenna in a tree or on a mast
more than 26,000 Hams participated from thousands of locations across North America
there are more than 750,000 amateur radio licensees in the U.S.
Among the tenets of the Amateur Radio Service is developing and practicing skills in radio technology and radio communications
and contributing to international goodwill
Hams range in age from as young as nine-years-old to older than 100

Larry Hogan reported Friday that dozens of large drones were in the sky above his house in Davidsonville
Hogan said he witnessed and videotaped the drones starting around 9:45 p.m
I do not know if this increasing activity over our skies is a threat to public safety or national security,” Hogan wrote
referring to the dozens of nighttime drone sightings that have been reported over New Jersey since mid-November.
Drones also have been reported in New York and Pennsylvania
but Hogan’s post is among the first to report them in Maryland
Hogan’s post included a two-minute video that showed little specks of white flittering across the night sky and a corner of his house for context
White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said the drones were lawfully operated manned aircraft and showed no evidence of a security threat
The FBI and Department of Homeland Security are among the agencies investigating
They have asked residents to share their photos and video of drone sightings
“The public is growing increasingly concerned and frustrated with the complete lack of transparency and the dismissive attitude of the federal government,” Hogan wrote on X
“The government has the ability to track these from their point of origin but has mounted a negligent response
People are rightfully clamoring for answers but aren’t getting any.”
