according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office

Ohio (WKRC) - A local community is stunned after the FBI released disturbing allegations against an elementary school teacher
Mark Altherr now faces federal child pornography charges and is currently on administrative leave in the Oak Hills Local School District
Leaders within the district said that Altherr is a fitness education teacher at Delshire Elementary School
and they think it's sickening," said local mom Sarah Witterstaetter
Witterstaetter said that she's horrified after learning that her daughter's gym teacher is charged with the distribution and possession of child pornography
She said that both her daughters spoke fondly of Altherr

FBI agents said that Altherr wrote about sexually abusing children on a website that describes itself as a "child pornography community." According to court documents
Altherr had been using the unnamed website since 2021
Agents arrested him at a hotel in the Columbus area on Friday
The recently unsealed criminal complaint said that "agents observed a prepubescent female completely nude in his hotel room."The document also said that the agents found two USB drives at his Cincinnati home
"It's just so shocking to think that someone that you trusted your kids with every day is doing something like this behind closed doors
It's just crazy," Witterstaetter said
Delhi Swim Club Manager Jalee Connor said that Altherr was a member there
we decided that was the best option for our swim club
and our staff to keep everybody safe," Connor said
families are having difficult conversations with their kids

More Frisch's Big Boy locations shuttered this week
as the number of closures continue to increase
The looming threat of closures comes as Frisch's Restaurants admitted Oct. 23 it faces an unspecified number of evictions from several locations due to "unforeseen circumstances."
Court records reveal "more than 20" properties face eviction in Southwest Ohio – or a quarter of Frisch's Restaurants' 78 total locations in Ohio
Records also show the landlord claims Frisch's owes more than $4.5 million in rent
So which restaurants in Greater Cincinnati are now closed or are set to close
Frisch's locations expected to close soonNote: These have been referred to Hamilton County bailiffs and are slated to close
On Thursday, shortly after the Oak Hills elementary school gym teacher accused of posting images on a "pedophile" website was ordered to be jailed while the case proceeds
Attorney Kenneth Parker told reporters that investigators are still looking for more victims
Parker said investigators remain concerned about some of Mark Altherr's posts on a website that describes itself as a "child pornography community" that serves "the pedophile community around the globe."
had been active on the site from at least 2021 until the day before his arrest on July 26
When Altherr was arrested at a Columbus hotel
a naked girl believed to be 5 or 6 years old was in his room
Altherr was the fitness education teacher at Delshire Elementary in Delhi Township since 2019 and worked there through this school year
the Oak Hills school district placed him on administrative leave and said the school board intends to begin termination proceedings
But Altherr previously lived and taught in Colorado
Court documents say he taught in Weld County
there are no allegations that any children there were victimized
A spokeswoman for the school district did not immediately comment Friday
Altherr and his now-ex-wife got married in 2017 in Arvada
They had one daughter together the next year
They moved to the Cincinnati area in 2019 after Altherr
A separation agreement says simply that "unfortunate differences have arisen between the parties."
Altherr's ex-wife could not be reached for comment
Altherr's postsThe website where investigators say Altherr posted images of child sexual abuse launched sometime around 2019
Officials have not disclosed the website's name
Court documents say users communicate with each other and "regularly use the website to advertise and distribute child pornography."
Among Altherr's alleged posts was one sexually explicit image that possibly depicted the 5- or 6-year-old girl who was found with Altherr in the Columbus hotel room
Court documents say Altherr had driven the girl there that evening in his Hyundai SUV
Altherr described sexually abusing girls between the ages of 4 and 10
Sometime in December or January of this year
Altherr posted seven images of two naked girls to a thread entitled
It's not clear when investigators became aware of Altherr's posts
but documents suggest that it may have been the same day he was arrested
as well as other information that is redacted in court documents
investigators decided to find Altherr on July 26
investigators conducted surveillance for several hours outside his Delhi Township home before determining he wasn't there
Investigators were able to track his cellphone to Columbus
where an FBI agent eventually found Altherr's SUV
Altherr drove the girl to the Columbus hotel
investigators determined that Altherr likely had posted at least one explicit image of that same girl to the website
Agents obtained the room number from hotel staff
knocked on the door and announced their presence
The agents prevented him from doing that and arrested him
The FBI later seized two USB drives at his Delhi Township home that
contained videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of children
after a sidebar discussion with Altherr's attorney and a federal prosecutor
ordered Altherr to be held in isolation at the Butler County Jail
He faces charges possessing and distributing child sexually abusive material
Anyone who may have information relevant to the case is urged to go to www.fbi.gov/MarkAltherrVictims and submit information via the online form
The finishing touches are being put on the $70 million Delhi Towne Square
the largest investment in the township’s history
The mixed-use development is a public-private partnership between Delhi Township
Oak Hills Schools and property management company PLK
“We knew we had to take a true leap of faith
we had to do something that’s never been done before in Delhi,” said trustee Mike Davis
Some call it the field of dreams because they can’t believe it’s really here.”
depending on the number of bedrooms (between one and three) and the floor plan
He said that meant more restaurants and retail
but Delhi needs more residents and foot traffic along Delhi Pike to support that
“We had a prime piece of property that was sitting here in the township
got our heads together and came up with a plan
We’re serious about keeping Delhi relevant
keeping it competitive [and] bringing people in.”
the town square hosts a 40,000-square-foot athletic club with space for cardio and weights
Resident David Senske is one of the 719 members already signed up
The facility also has two pools: an eight-lane competition lap pool and a warm water pool
Oak Hills High School will compete at the facility
Pre-school students will also have an opportunity to swim because it’ll be a short walk from their classroom
200 students each day will attend class at the Delhi Towne Square
Administrative offices for the township will also move to the new facility
The shift will free up space at the old administrative building for the growing police department to utilize
City government meetings will take place in a multi-purpose room that is designed to host events and meetings for roughly 300 people
“We want to stay competitive and be able to offer many different opportunities,” Davis said
There is also a cultural arts center with community classroom studios
Davis said the project is already proving to be a catalyst for development in the area surrounding it: “We've received tons of calls from other businesses trying to set up … I'm sure it only gets more and more when people see this
“It’s not just for people today,” Davis said
“This is for generations to come: protecting our families and our futures and our home values.”

CINCINNATI — A 45-year-old fitness education teacher employed with Oak Hills School District was arrested after FBI agents found him in a hotel room with a nude
pre-pubescent child and determined he'd possessed and exchanged child pornography
Mark Altherr faces one federal charge of distribution of child pornography and one federal count of possession of child pornography
He appeared in federal court Thursday where he was ordered to remain in detention until his trial
The federal court documents say the FBI believes that beginning at least in December of 2023 and continuing into July 2024
Altherr distributed sexually explicit material depicting children on a website
specifically describes itself as "a child pornography community," the court documents say
The FBI's investigation showed Altherr was an active member of that website and posted files to it
The FBI determined Altherr had been using the site since 2021 and that
he made at least 262 posts on the site — some of which were made just six months ago
Altherr allegedly replied to a thread titled "3 to 5 year old cuties only," in which there were nude images of children
Altherr allegedly replied to a thread that depicted children engaged in sexual acts with an adult man
Altherr allegedly described his own sexual abuse of children
including involving a "10 year old neighbor," an "8 year old who had a crush on me" and a "4 year old I was looking after."
The FBI determined that Altherr was a teacher after finding a post on the Delshire Elementary Facebook page in 2019 that welcomed Altherr as the school's new fitness teacher at the Delhi Township school
"I'm excited to start my first year at Delshire Elementary!" reads the post introducing Altherr
Altherr was no longer listed on the Oak Hills School District website as a staff member
the district said Altherr has been placed on administrative leave and "is prohibited from being on school grounds or having any contact with students or staff" at this time
the board of education intends to initiate termination proceedings," the district said
"The Oak Hills Local School District is working closely with and fully cooperating with the FBI and law enforcement agents regarding the ongoing investigation
we will share it with families and the community."
Because they learned Altherr was a teacher
FBI agents believed it was "necessary" to find Altherr
they went to his home in Cincinnati but found he was not there
A ping of his cellphone showed investigators that he was at a public location in Columbus
An FBI agent was dispatched to that location in Columbus
the Agent observed an individual fitting the description of Altherr enter the vehicle with a minor female," reads the criminal complaint filed against Altherr
Agents watched as Altherr drove himself and the child to a hotel in the Columbus area
agents reviewed images posted by Altherr to the website
including images depicting sexual abuse of children
FBI agents said they believed the child with Altherr was "in imminent danger when she entered the hotel with Altherr," the criminal complaint says
agents executed a probable cause arrest on Altherr
the agents went inside his hotel room and discovered a young girl
FBI agents executed a search warrant on Altherr's Cincinnati home
electronics at Altherr's home were found to have both images and videos depicting sexual abuse against children
Intrust IT Cyber Security Consultant David Hatter said he wasn't surprised that a website expressly advertising itself as existing "to serve the pedophile community around the globe" was online
Hatter said such a website could continue to exist
it could be hidden inside of something," he said
Hatter said the illegal material could be hidden in a part of an otherwise unremarkable website
or the entire website could be hidden on the Dark Web where it's harder for investigators to track people associated with illegal material
The website could also be based in a country where U.S
"Let's say a country where they turned a blind eye to this sort of thing or
Hatter said the fact an FBI agent was embedded in the password account-protected website
was proof that agents are actively investigating and no U.S.-based users would be safe
"I'm glad that law enforcement agencies are out there to try to put an end to this because
reading that complaint literally made me sick to my stomach," he said
Altherr is currently being held in the Butler County jail on retainer for federal officials
Altherr could face up to 40 years in prison
The FBI is encouraging anyone who believes they or someone they know could have been a victim of Altherr's actions to fill out a short online form
Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kenneth Parker told reporters after Thursday's hearing that he was asking parents for help identifying any potential additional victims
give them that open space to come forward and talk to us," Parker said
"We're urging any and every person to come forward so that we can hold him to the highest level of accountability."

HOLT – Delhi Township officials and residents took another step in righting a historic wrong Tuesday in dedicating the John Taylor Memorial Park
callously, as Deadman’s Hill since the 1940s
Ingham County’s only known lynching victim in 1866
Taylor was born into slavery in Kentucky and freed by Union troops
instead of remembering Taylor for his death
he’ll be remembered for his full story
including his service as a Civil War soldier
The park’s dedication included the unveiling of a Michigan Historical Marker
"We hope by renaming the park and unveiling the Michigan Historical Marker
we can erase the stigma of its former name and honor the contributions of soldiers like John Taylor," said Dale Copedge
president of the Lansing Branch NAACP
Taylor was lynched after false rumors and newspaper accounts that he had murdered a girl and injured two others
He had been arrested for allegedly striking the women with an ax but they didn't die
president of the Holt-Delhi Historical Society
Taylor had gone to the farmhouse where he had worked seeking back wages when the alleged attack occurred
a mob pulled him from the county jail in Mason and brutalized him
McCormick called Taylor’s story “a hugely important piece of local history.”
a member of the Michigan Historical Commission
said lynchings are usually associated with the South but they occurred elsewhere
"A lynching in Michigan is not something we hear about in our history classes or textbooks
acknowledging what has happened is the first stop in healing form this historical trauma,” she said
It was long thought that Taylor was murdered by a mob and buried at the site of the park
but records exist to place his murder in Mason
It was his memory that Deadman's Hill was connected to a lynching that stirred the name change
Savage contacted me in the spring of 2018, just as the Equal Justice Initiative was set to open The National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery
That memorial recalls the atrocities against black Americans
Savage wanted to know if Taylor’s death would be included
the question triggered a soul searching in the township that led to the renaming of the park
“I’m just happy it came together and the record got set straight,” Savage said
It may take time for the name of Deadman’s Hill to fade
you correct it to John Taylor Park,’” she said

Ohio — A plan to make sure no kid goes hungry is moving closer to its goal in the Oak Hills School District
For the past year the Kids & Community Food Collaborative has partnered with west side businesses to raise money and expand what was once a program at just Delshire Elementary to every elementary and middle school in the district
"We approximate (the need) to be about 400 students
which would require us to about 100,000 a year," said Travis Curd
president and founder of the Kids & Community Food Collaborative
"We have started a campaign with local businesses and small business owners to raise $1,000 per business per year for 10 years
and will enable us to utilize the Freestore Foodbank resources to provide power packs and school pantries to those families."
The group is at about 40% of its goal but already they're seeing results for their efforts
the district unveiled two new food pantries at Bridgetown and Delhi Middle Schools
"To take one thing financially off their plate
that seemed like a fantastic idea," said Teri Egbers
school counselor at Bridgetown Middle School
Stocked inside the pantry are kid-friendly
"The basics we kind of forget that not everyone has," and Egbers said as the first families shopped
"We try to get to know our kids and families well so we make this a comfortable experience
want them to feel like they are the ones doing a good job by doing this for their families and to see them
but I hope they left more comfortable and feeling like they could take care of their families better."
Egbers' counterpart Katie Klus detailed the power packs' impact for her students since 2018
"They were missing a lot of educational time
not only from leaving class to ask for snacks
The students are in class longer on Mondays … they come in class
And I think it also takes away the stress."
The expansion was necessary as the collaborative saw a need within Oak Hills
but the Freestore Foodbank also said that need is climbing everywhere
"This is the first school year that I've had
probably over eight schools and eight school districts reach out because they want to be a part of it," said Heidi Becker
who runs the power pack program for Freestore Foodbank
they're home alone on the weekend and this food is kind of that security blanket for them."
As they move forward with fundraising to sustain this initiative
Curd said the money pledged from businesses as well as the Freestore Foodbank's new facility in Riverside the collaborative is really solidifying that relationship
the Kids & Community Food Collaborative said it has provided over 15,000 meals through the donations it has received

The Enquirer called the slaying “brutal and senseless.” Col
Paul Fricker of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department said
“This is the most vicious crime we have seen.”
Huebner, 47, was mother to three boys
She worked part-time as a saleswoman at McAlpin’s
Their husbands were brothers. Henrietta was a widow with five daughters
“Luella and Henrietta usually went out together once a week
always to Price Hill and more often than not to the building and loan,” said Luella’s husband
“…Luella drove my car as usual Wednesday.”
Each of the women had been shot in the head
One of the first police officers on the scene was Cincinnati Patrolman Walter P
He was told his wife was one of the victims
this could have been avoided,” he said
“They knew something was going to happen.”
his wife had told him about two suspicious men who had opened an account at Cabinet Supreme
“I have worked at the savings and loan for 13 years
But these two guys just scared the living daylights out of me
I was afraid they were going to rob me right
police had posted lookouts at the savings and loan
but after a few days the watch was taken off
No one had expected a robbery during the day
John Levi Leigh and Watterson “Big Red” Johnson had waited that September morning until the manager left
handed out the guns and given the order: “No witnesses.”
Police said that Leigh admitted to shooting the women with a .25 caliber automatic
“He said his gun went off and then he just kept shooting,” Homicide Sgt
Russell Jackson testified in Leigh's trial
His gun jammed so he grabbed Johnson’s gun
Asked why he shot Dewald four times in the back
Lillian Dewald had identified a photograph of Kassow as the man who had opened an account at the savings and loan
Police picked up him a few hours after the killings at his house in Price Hill
a block from the home shared by the Stitzels
Leigh and Johnson were apprehended four days later near Gallup
All three men were convicted of murder and sentenced to death in the electric chair, although their sentences were commuted to life imprisonment after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down capital punishment in 1972. All three men died in prison.

one-room to Oak Hills DistrictCincinnatiAs Delhi Township began to take shape after incorporation in 1816
residents realized the necessity of established schools and providing regular teachers
The one-room schoolhouse was popular in Delhi from about 1825-1920
These little buildings were situated about a mile or two apart in order to make it convenient for the children to walk to class
Some of the earliest schoolhouses built in Delhi through the efforts of township residents were at Mount Alverno and Greenwell (1830)
Lee School at Rapid Run and Hillside (1833)
Runck School at Rapid Run and Ebenezer (1850)
Allen District School on Rapid Run near Anderson Ferry (1851) and Warsaw School Rapid Run near Coronado (1828)
Most of the historic district schools continued into the first decade of the 20th century
3 School in 1911 recalls that all the children were very fond of William Chidlaw
He subsequently served as principal of Sayler Park School for 23 years
The one-room school houses were phased out and by the 1920s all students in public schools in Delhi were attending one of three two-room District schools: Northwest on Cleves Warsaw near Ebenezer
and Williams Special District School at Delhi and Plum Street
Harry Huenefeld wrote a vivid account of his school years in the early 20th century for the Delhi Historical Society
He enrolled Williams Special District School No
Setting back about 100 feet and fronting on Delhi Pike
the building had its main entrances in the center which led into a hallway
Off of the hallway were the two classrooms
The lower grades were taught by a lady teacher and the upper grades by a man who was the school principal
Williams and Northwestern were merged in 1926 to form the Delhi Township Rural School District
A new school building was erected on the corner of Anderson Ferry and Foley roads
The original building is now incorporated into Delhi Middle School
Additions to the building were made in 1932
The Board of Education which supervised the merger and building consisted of L.F
The consolidation made it difficult or impossible for children to walk to school
Bus service was initiated throughout the township with first two
John Kramer and George Schuster were the dedicated bus drivers
Creed Oney (C.O.) Harrison was named principal of Delhi School in 1931 and he retired in 1963
During his tenure the faculty at Delhi grew from six to 31 teachers
a new elementary school was built and named in his honor
and the Oak Hills School District was born
Until the consolidation of Green and Delhi Township schools into the Oak Hills School district

– A local Delhi Township bar is getting back to its roots
Maloney's Pub has begun significant renovations to restore some of its former Irish charm
and we want to make it more of an Irish sports bar," owner Todd Schimpf said
It opened in 1928 as Eddie's Tavern and Carry Out
where it had originally started as a restaurant
What had been a farmer's market in the township was moved 200 yards and connected to Eddie's in 1959
the bar was renamed Maloney's Pub after bartender Jack Maloney
who had been a bartender there for 20 years
adding that he hopes to bring back some of that atmosphere with the planned renovations
The first phase of the renovations will involve tripling the size of the back patio
Schimpf said this should be completed before St
will involve removing the bar and installing a new bar top and additional taps
Additional renovations will include adding new flooring and woodwork and giving a facelift to the interior and exterior of the building such as installing darker wood and more stonework to give the bar more of an "Irish motif."
Schimpf said during that time he expects the bar to only be closed from three to four days
"The building has needed to be updated for a while
and we wanted to bring back the Irish charm," Schimpf said
The section added to the bar in 1959 is more than 100 years old
who resides in Delhi Township, said the goal is to have all of the improvements completed by September in time for football season
The renovation project is estimated to cost from $100,000 to $150,000
Schimpf said he also hopes to bring back some of the "old-timers."
He said Delhi Township officials frequently used the pub as a meeting place from the 1930s to the 1960s
Several police officers were sworn in at the site in the 1960s and in the 1990s it had even served as a polling location
"A lot of people are excited (about the improvements)," Schimpf said
"This (pub) has always been a cornerstone of Delhi."

voters will all see the names "Clinton" and "Trump" on their ballots Nov
But thousands of voters across Hamilton and Clermont counties will also see a parks tax
All four parks levies would require taxpayers to pay more for their parks
people rank parks and recreation as a top priority in their community and say they want to preserve and grow their green spaces
Enquirer voting guide: Build your ballot before you vote
Executive Director Jack Sutton likes to explain the difference between county and local park systems
each agency runs parks where visitors like to hike and take the kids
but Great Parks of Hamilton County also leads the county in protecting natural spaces in a more passive way
"We are preserving land across the county," Sutton said
"It's important for our children and grandchildren."
Great Parks is responsible for roughly 17,000 acres of land
Woodland Mound and Miami Whitewater Forest
but also areas purchased mainly for conservation
Their properties include 710 acres of lakes and other water resources
"You may not live next to the Little Miami River
but boy is it important to protect it," Sutton said
The district also operates Shaker Trace
a nursery that cultivates roughly 450 pounds of seeds of native plants a year
Thousands of acres of wetland and prairie habitat have been planted as a result
Great Parks collects roughly 55 percent through its levy
Great Parks works hand-in-hand with local parks agencies
The county district helped Delhi and Western Wildlife Corridor (a nonprofit land trust protecting a tract of land on the West Side) acquire Bender Mountain
a hillside nature preserve off of Bender Road
It also helped Anderson acquire Johnson Hills Park on Bridle Road
Taxpayers have supported the county district with a 1 mill levy since 1988
The 15-year levy expires at the end at 2017
The new tax would replace it and cost $35 per year per $100,000 of home value

Clermont County Park District is asking residents to increase their parks tax six-fold
the park district could grow and add amenities that residents have said they want and expect
No organized opposition has formed around the idea
The Clermont County Chamber of Commerce has endorsed it and the levy has bipartisan support, there's even a photo on Facebook of Republican Chairman David Uible and Democratic Chairman Ray Lembke shaking hands and grinning next to a "Vote for Clermont Parks" sign
Taxpayers have been paying $3.50 per $100,000 home value for parks in inside millage since the park district formed in 1970
Inside millage is a tax that counties and townships in Ohio are allowed to collect without approval by voters
Now, for the first time in park district history, the district is asking for its own levy
it is estimated to cost $17.50 per $100,000 of home value and would last for 10 years
"People have said they want what their neighbors have," Clingman told the Enquirer earlier this year
The 620-acre district is sitting on 530 acres of pending land donations and would like to add playgrounds
restrooms or both at parks that have seen increased visits
the parks district would have to make some difficult decisions as some infrastructure
are outdated and badly needing maintenance
would likely be first on the chopping block
When the amount of tax dollars trickling down from the state got cut earlier this decade almost every small government in Southwest Ohio struggled to adjust
Delhi Township found itself in a particularly challenging position
local government fund and other taxes eliminated roughly $1.5 a year for the township
it took about about a 60 percent swipe from the township's annual general fund
a fund that nearly every department relied on
departments weaned themselves off the fund
cutting costs and passing levies so that each department could meet its budget
parks and recreation and zoning are the last two reliant on the general fund
a fund needed to cover unexpected expenses at times
parks needed roughly $177,000 from the general fund
the township has proposed a 0.54 mill continuous levy
estimated to cost $18.90 in taxes per $100,000 value of a property a year
That would cover the Senior Center gap and more
The remaining money would create a park resource officer position
allow more activities to be held across the 150-acre park system and end an annual $6,000 fee for the Delhi Seniors organization to rent the Senior Center
according to Landrum and Parks and Recreation Director Josh Torbeck
it will become a second continuous parks tax collected for park operations
Delhi voters approved a 1 mill park levy in 2005 election that currently costs an estimated $29.95 a year per $100,000 home value
folks at flagship Delhi Park said one fall weekday morning
who was walking around Clearview Lake on a crisp fall morning
She said she values all of the park options in the area and will vote for both Delhi and Hamilton County park levies
Anderson wants a little more to keep with status quoAnderson Township Park District is not part of township government
"That means we're not last on the list for funds
but always first," said Executive Director Ken Kushner
Residents have supported the park district at the same rate
it will cost $66.50 per year per $100,000 of home value
This tax proposal should not be confused with a proposal last fall to purchase 40 acres of land from Beech Acres Parenting Center. That levy was pulled off the ballot after parks leaders decided against moving forward with the plan
This year's proposal is strictly for operations at a similar level as today
On a recent Tuesday afternoon, everyone at the popular farm-themed playground at Juilifs Park came from outside of Anderson Township
That included Northern Kentucky resident Stephanie Laake
there with her 4-year-old son Russ and the family dachshund
Russ rushed up to the pretend haystacks in a large sandy area
"I wish I could vote for the levy," Laake said
Hamilton County and Anderson Township are asking for the same amount of millage for their new levies as the ones currently on the books – so why do they cost more
When voters approve a new tax the amount the homeowner will be charged is calculated and set for the life of the levy so that homeowners know what to expect to pay and the taxing authority knows what to expect to receive
During the lifetime of the last parks levies property values rose
the 1 mill levy for Great Parks is currently being collected at 0.85 mill to reflect the greater property value
The new levy is a reset and again goes back to the 1 mill
homeowners are no longer eligible for three tax credits that used to roll back the amount they paid
