The FBI determined that Altherr was a teacher after finding a post on the Delshire Elementary Facebook page in 2019 that welcomed Altherr as the school's new fitness teacher at the Delhi Township school "I'm excited to start my first year at Delshire Elementary!" reads the post introducing Altherr Altherr was no longer listed on the Oak Hills School District website as a staff member the district said Altherr has been placed on administrative leave and "is prohibited from being on school grounds or having any contact with students or staff" at this time the board of education intends to initiate termination proceedings," the district said "The Oak Hills Local School District is working closely with and fully cooperating with the FBI and law enforcement agents regarding the ongoing investigation we will share it with families and the community." Because they learned Altherr was a teacher FBI agents believed it was "necessary" to find Altherr they went to his home in Cincinnati but found he was not there A ping of his cellphone showed investigators that he was at a public location in Columbus An FBI agent was dispatched to that location in Columbus the Agent observed an individual fitting the description of Altherr enter the vehicle with a minor female," reads the criminal complaint filed against Altherr Agents watched as Altherr drove himself and the child to a hotel in the Columbus area agents reviewed images posted by Altherr to the website including images depicting sexual abuse of children FBI agents said they believed the child with Altherr was "in imminent danger when she entered the hotel with Altherr," the criminal complaint says agents executed a probable cause arrest on Altherr the agents went inside his hotel room and discovered a young girl FBI agents executed a search warrant on Altherr's Cincinnati home electronics at Altherr's home were found to have both images and videos depicting sexual abuse against children Intrust IT Cyber Security Consultant David Hatter said he wasn't surprised that a website expressly advertising itself as existing "to serve the pedophile community around the globe" was online Hatter said such a website could continue to exist it could be hidden inside of something," he said Hatter said the illegal material could be hidden in a part of an otherwise unremarkable website or the entire website could be hidden on the Dark Web where it's harder for investigators to track people associated with illegal material The website could also be based in a country where U.S "Let's say a country where they turned a blind eye to this sort of thing or Hatter said the fact an FBI agent was embedded in the password account-protected website was proof that agents are actively investigating and no U.S.-based users would be safe "I'm glad that law enforcement agencies are out there to try to put an end to this because reading that complaint literally made me sick to my stomach," he said Altherr is currently being held in the Butler County jail on retainer for federal officials Altherr could face up to 40 years in prison The FBI is encouraging anyone who believes they or someone they know could have been a victim of Altherr's actions to fill out a short online form Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kenneth Parker told reporters after Thursday's hearing that he was asking parents for help identifying any potential additional victims give them that open space to come forward and talk to us," Parker said "We're urging any and every person to come forward so that we can hold him to the highest level of accountability." Collaborative has partnered with west side businesses to raise money and expand what was once a program at just Delshire Elementary to every elementary and middle school in the district "We approximate (the need) to be about 400 students which would require us to about 100,000 a year," said Travis Curd president and founder of the Kids & Community Food Collaborative "We have started a campaign with local businesses and small business owners to raise $1,000 per business per year for 10 years and will enable us to utilize the Freestore Foodbank resources to provide power packs and school pantries to those families." The group is at about 40% of its goal but already they're seeing results for their efforts the district unveiled two new food pantries at Bridgetown and Delhi Middle Schools "To take one thing financially off their plate that seemed like a fantastic idea," said Teri Egbers school counselor at Bridgetown Middle School Stocked inside the pantry are kid-friendly "The basics we kind of forget that not everyone has," and Egbers said as the first families shopped "We try to get to know our kids and families well so we make this a comfortable experience want them to feel like they are the ones doing a good job by doing this for their families and to see them but I hope they left more comfortable and feeling like they could take care of their families better." Egbers' counterpart Katie Klus detailed the power packs' impact for her students since 2018 "They were missing a lot of educational time not only from leaving class to ask for snacks The students are in class longer on Mondays … they come in class And I think it also takes away the stress." The expansion was necessary as the collaborative saw a need within Oak Hills but the Freestore Foodbank also said that need is climbing everywhere "This is the first school year that I've had probably over eight schools and eight school districts reach out because they want to be a part of it," said Heidi Becker who runs the power pack program for Freestore Foodbank they're home alone on the weekend and this food is kind of that security blanket for them." As they move forward with fundraising to sustain this initiative Curd said the money pledged from businesses as well as the Freestore Foodbank's new facility in Riverside the collaborative is really solidifying that relationship the Kids & Community Food Collaborative said it has provided over 15,000 meals through the donations it has received to drive her downtown to McAlpin’s to grab her paycheck for $42.50. He circled the block before she could cash it at the bank next door so on their way back home in Delhi Township they stopped at Cabinet Supreme Savings & Loan Association on Delhi Pike two sisters-in-law on their weekly shopping trip The three customers entered the brick savings and loan building located at what is now the parking lot for an O’Reilly Auto Parts store the quiet West Side community lost its innocence he spotted three young men leaving the savings and loan They got into a light blue 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu The man with a beard was carrying two purses one a red plastic handbag Joe recognized as his wife’s Joe entered the building to find the lobby empty Straight back and to the left in the small office was a 6-by-10-foot concrete bank vault {Support local journalism: Subscribe here.} The Enquirer called the slaying “brutal and senseless.” Col Paul Fricker of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department said “This is the most vicious crime we have seen.” Huebner, 47, was mother to three boys She worked part-time as a saleswoman at McAlpin’s Their husbands were brothers. Henrietta was a widow with five daughters “Luella and Henrietta usually went out together once a week always to Price Hill and more often than not to the building and loan,” said Luella’s husband “…Luella drove my car as usual Wednesday.” Each of the women had been shot in the head One of the first police officers on the scene was Cincinnati Patrolman Walter P He was told his wife was one of the victims this could have been avoided,” he said “They knew something was going to happen.” his wife had told him about two suspicious men who had opened an account at Cabinet Supreme “I have worked at the savings and loan for 13 years But these two guys just scared the living daylights out of me I was afraid they were going to rob me right police had posted lookouts at the savings and loan but after a few days the watch was taken off No one had expected a robbery during the day John Levi Leigh and Watterson “Big Red” Johnson had waited that September morning until the manager left handed out the guns and given the order: “No witnesses.” Police said that Leigh admitted to shooting the women with a .25 caliber automatic “He said his gun went off and then he just kept shooting,” Homicide Sgt Russell Jackson testified in Leigh's trial His gun jammed so he grabbed Johnson’s gun Asked why he shot Dewald four times in the back Lillian Dewald had identified a photograph of Kassow as the man who had opened an account at the savings and loan Police picked up him a few hours after the killings at his house in Price Hill a block from the home shared by the Stitzels Leigh and Johnson were apprehended four days later near Gallup All three men were convicted of murder and sentenced to death in the electric chair, although their sentences were commuted to life imprisonment after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down capital punishment in 1972. Schimpf said during that time he expects the bar to only be closed from three to four days "The building has needed to be updated for a while and we wanted to bring back the Irish charm," Schimpf said The section added to the bar in 1959 is more than 100 years old who resides in Delhi Township, said the goal is to have all of the improvements completed by September in time for football season The renovation project is estimated to cost from $100,000 to $150,000 Schimpf said he also hopes to bring back some of the "old-timers." He said Delhi Township officials frequently used the pub as a meeting place from the 1930s to the 1960s Several police officers were sworn in at the site in the 1960s and in the 1990s it had even served as a polling location "A lot of people are excited (about the improvements)," Schimpf said "This (pub) has always been a cornerstone of Delhi." Great Parks is responsible for roughly 17,000 acres of land Woodland Mound and Miami Whitewater Forest but also areas purchased mainly for conservation Their properties include 710 acres of lakes and other water resources "You may not live next to the Little Miami River but boy is it important to protect it," Sutton said The district also operates Shaker Trace a nursery that cultivates roughly 450 pounds of seeds of native plants a year Thousands of acres of wetland and prairie habitat have been planted as a result Great Parks collects roughly 55 percent through its levy Great Parks works hand-in-hand with local parks agencies The county district helped Delhi and Western Wildlife Corridor (a nonprofit land trust protecting a tract of land on the West Side) acquire Bender Mountain a hillside nature preserve off of Bender Road It also helped Anderson acquire Johnson Hills Park on Bridle Road Taxpayers have supported the county district with a 1 mill levy since 1988 The 15-year levy expires at the end at 2017 The new tax would replace it and cost $35 per year per $100,000 of home value below.) With three weeks before Election Day there is no organized opposition to the county levy Clermont County Park District is asking residents to increase their parks tax six-fold the park district could grow and add amenities that residents have said they want and expect No organized opposition has formed around the idea The Clermont County Chamber of Commerce has endorsed it and the levy has bipartisan support, there's even a photo on Facebook of Republican Chairman David Uible and Democratic Chairman Ray Lembke shaking hands and grinning next to a "Vote for Clermont Parks" sign Taxpayers have been paying $3.50 per $100,000 home value for parks in inside millage since the park district formed in 1970 Inside millage is a tax that counties and townships in Ohio are allowed to collect without approval by voters Now, for the first time in park district history, the district is asking for its own levy it is estimated to cost $17.50 per $100,000 of home value and would last for 10 years "People have said they want what their neighbors have," Clingman told the Enquirer earlier this year The 620-acre district is sitting on 530 acres of pending land donations and would like to add playgrounds restrooms or both at parks that have seen increased visits the parks district would have to make some difficult decisions as some infrastructure are outdated and badly needing maintenance would likely be first on the chopping block When the amount of tax dollars trickling down from the state got cut earlier this decade almost every small government in Southwest Ohio struggled to adjust Delhi Township found itself in a particularly challenging position local government fund and other taxes eliminated roughly $1.5 a year for the township it took about about a 60 percent swipe from the township's annual general fund a fund that nearly every department relied on departments weaned themselves off the fund cutting costs and passing levies so that each department could meet its budget parks and recreation and zoning are the last two reliant on the general fund a fund needed to cover unexpected expenses at times parks needed roughly $177,000 from the general fund the township has proposed a 0.54 mill continuous levy estimated to cost $18.90 in taxes per $100,000 value of a property a year That would cover the Senior Center gap and more The remaining money would create a park resource officer position allow more activities to be held across the 150-acre park system and end an annual $6,000 fee for the Delhi Seniors organization to rent the Senior Center according to Landrum and Parks and Recreation Director Josh Torbeck it will become a second continuous parks tax collected for park operations Delhi voters approved a 1 mill park levy in 2005 election that currently costs an estimated $29.95 a year per $100,000 home value folks at flagship Delhi Park said one fall weekday morning who was walking around Clearview Lake on a crisp fall morning She said she values all of the park options in the area and will vote for both Delhi and Hamilton County park levies Anderson wants a little more to keep with status quoAnderson Township Park District is not part of township government "That means we're not last on the list for funds but always first," said Executive Director Ken Kushner Residents have supported the park district at the same rate it will cost $66.50 per year per $100,000 of home value This tax proposal should not be confused with a proposal last fall to purchase 40 acres of land from Beech Acres Parenting Center. That levy was pulled off the ballot after parks leaders decided against moving forward with the plan This year's proposal is strictly for operations at a similar level as today On a recent Tuesday afternoon, everyone at the popular farm-themed playground at Juilifs Park came from outside of Anderson Township That included Northern Kentucky resident Stephanie Laake there with her 4-year-old son Russ and the family dachshund Russ rushed up to the pretend haystacks in a large sandy area "I wish I could vote for the levy," Laake said Hamilton County and Anderson Township are asking for the same amount of millage for their new levies as the ones currently on the books – so why do they cost more When voters approve a new tax the amount the homeowner will be charged is calculated and set for the life of the levy so that homeowners know what to expect to pay and the taxing authority knows what to expect to receive During the lifetime of the last parks levies property values rose the 1 mill levy for Great Parks is currently being collected at 0.85 mill to reflect the greater property value The new levy is a reset and again goes back to the 1 mill homeowners are no longer eligible for three tax credits that used to roll back the amount they paid
