See more Delaware prom photos – Fire crews are responding to a farm fire in Delmar We’re told crews were called to King Farms on Foskey Lane shortly before noon for a commercial building fire with exposures A tanker task force was also called in to assist after crews arrived at the scene to find a pole building No additional information is available at this time Because Local Matters News Delmar Divine—Build-a-Bear founder Maxine Clark’s ambitious rehab of the long-vacant St Luke’s Hospital on Delmar—is getting ready to roar into its next phase the entire city block will be activated for the project Clark had originally hoped to get work started on this second phase last year but she now acknowledges that timeline was a bit too ambitious Ameren’s work building a substation near the complex put construction on pause.  succinct guide to local news from award-winning journalists Sarah Fenske and Ryan Krull “These projects that are historic take a lot more time and planning than most people can even imagine,” Clark says and she laughs when looking back at the project’s many and it’s like 14 or 15 weeks to open just because it’s so complex.”  The first phase brought 150 residential units and retail that includes a pharmacy and Deli Divine a riff on an old-school Jewish deli.  Clark says that project leaders are still working through all the details but they will likely have outdoor pickleball courts open not just to Delmar Divine residents It also includes restoration of a historic gymnasium within what had been a nursing school Just like the gyms you may remember from grade school one that Clark is hoping to see preserved for community use: When the gym isn’t being used for basketball “I think it’ll be wonderful to use in the neighborhood for different events that we have and then graduations and all kinds of things,” Clark says While some of the big new apartment complexes that have come online in St Louis in recent years have struggled to attract tenants Delmar Divine’s first phase has been fully leased other than a few months in the summer when college students go home which is much lower than many other big projects around town 15 percent of the units were designated for low-income residents The others are priced competitively ($1,100 for a two bedroom and then the rest are residents at the hospital,” Clark says A shuttle takes students back and forth to not just WashU’s main campus but also its medical school in the Central West End Clark says the seniors are happy being part of a wide mix of ages: “They just love it because they’re around young people.” Clark has much bigger aims for the project than just reactivating a building with few other prospects—or providing housing for residents or nonprofit organizations She firmly believes that it can connect the long-neglected neighborhoods north of Delmar with the upwardly mobile ones to the south “Everything that we do is going to be really great for the neighborhood,” she says “We’re bringing amenities here that we don’t have yet but also for the people that live around the building whether it’s in 63112 or 63108.”  it won’t just restore a city block with hundreds of residents and a thriving community “It’s not like we can change 50 or 100 years of investment in just a few years and the next part will take even less time than that.  “And I just want other people to realize they can jump in I want other people to have the fun of doing this and the joy of making a difference in a community that deserves it.” Hear more from Maxine Clark on The BizSTL Podcast. Regular store hours commence on February 22 with Tous les Jours open daily from 7 a.m.–8 p.m Louis Dining In and Dining Out newsletters to stay up-to-date on the local restaurant and culinary scene Ever since its founding in South Korea in 1997 Tous les Jours has maintained a reputation for high-quality baked goods using premium natural ingredients That approach lined up perfectly with a trend that the ownership of Pan-Asia Supermarket (14246 Manchester) had seen among customers according to an email from the local management team “We’ve noticed a growing demand for high-quality artisanal baked goods,” says Hong Zheng owner of the Pan-Asia chain and the Tous Les Jours franchise in University City “and Tous les Jours is well-known for meeting that demand Their diverse range of products—from fresh breads to pastries—caters to a variety of tastes and dietary preferences making it the perfect fit for our business.” Tous les Jours—which means “every day” in French—offers butter croissants a streusel-style round Korean bun; or sweet potato bread and ube flavoring to give it a vibrant deep lavender hue and unique flavor It’s a perfect visual match with the ube latte or a perfect contrast with the honey-lavender matcha latte there’s soboro bread filled with red beans crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside They can be paired with a selection of blended fruit smoothies The largest menu category is sweet desserts which is where the fusion of Asian and French flavors rises to the next level layers chiffon cake and whipped cream with seasonal fruits and fresh strawberries Zheng describes it as a melt-in-your-mouth experience Chiffon cloud cakes also come with other flavor combinations such as strawberry-cream and blueberry-yogurt The dessert menu also includes sponge cake and a chocolate ganache cake that Zheng says is “a dream for chocolate lovers with its smooth decadent texture.” Rounding it out are delicate with their trademark crisp outer shell and soft filling The owners have renovated the former Jimmy John’s location in the Delmar Loop into an inviting space with both modern elegance and rustic touches though the visual focus centers around the baked goods Customers can order at the counter for dine-in or to-go purchases or they can grab items from the display cases and store shelves While Zheng and the team want the location to be convenient—whether customers order through the app or in person—their end goal is for local residents to sit and savor the full range of the Asian-French dishes “The café-like environment encourages customers to relax and explore our diverse menu offerings,” Zheng says Zheng says the owners of Pan-Asia Supermarket, which has locations in Omaha, Tulsa, and Overland Park, as well as the local store in Manchester, were drawn to Tous les Jours because of the brand’s strong reputation: “As a business owner, partnering with a trusted and established brand was crucial to ensure we meet and exceed the expectations of our customers.” The management team also liked Tous les Jours’ steady stream of new flavors and products, keeping the menu fresh and engaging while not overlooking longtime customers’ favorites. “We wanted a brand that could help us stand out in the market while offering our customers unique and innovative options to keep them coming back,” Zheng says. An equally important aspect was Tous les Jours’ sense of community. “They focus not only on delivering exceptional food but also on creating a warm, welcoming environment for customers,” Zheng says. “This commitment to the customer experience resonates with our team, who understands the importance of fostering a positive, memorable experience for everyone who walks through the door.” Just as Pan-Asia Supermarket has become a staple in West County, Zheng emphasizes that the team envisions Tous les Jours as a gathering place in University City: “The Delmar corridor is home to both longtime residents and university students, offering a unique mix of people who appreciate high-quality, artisanal food—making it an ideal fit for our brand and mission.” Listen Here Listen Here Listen Here Listen Here DINING NEWSLETTERS Subscribe to the St. Louis Dining In and Dining Out newsletters to stay up-to-date on the local restaurant and culinary scene. Since they announced their purchase and plans online the Blairs have received support and encouragement from the Sault community "It was very overwhelming that we got so much support," said Lynde they're just happy to have a new place in town to go to and we definitely lack housing and apartments in the Sault." Lynde plans to be working the front and interacting with the guests while Brent makes food in the back The top floors will become new apartments for rent The Blairs are hoping to be able to open before next summer Hopefully we can give the Sault something that's needed and wanted," said Brent — Contact Brendan Wiesner: BWiesner@Sooeveningnews.com This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page vsUNC Invitational Tar Heels Shine On Day 1 Of UNC InvitationalFebruary 6
