physically and verbally attacked her while she was delivering mail at an apartment complex located near Juban Road a mail carrier for the Denham Springs Post Office tells UWK that a man on her route allegedly attacked her on April 14 Carter said the home is on her regular route She has been a carrier for just over a year now and said she loves her job “I’ve been knowing my customers and this particular customer had had some frustrations with the post office in the past,” she said Carter was at a mailbox center for an apartment complex near Juban Road putting mail and packages into the boxes for the residents there approached her while she was still delivering mail into the boxes and said he’d already been watching and filming her She said that what started as a conversation soon turned into racially charged attack in less than 30 seconds with him calling her racial slurs and a “b**ch.” The man was asking about packages that Carter had not delivered yet As she walked around the unit of mailboxes continuously asking about his packages and calling her names Carter was finally able to grab her phone and started recording the incident herself which is what she believes helped lead to Gaspard’s arrest “Then my video shows him reach down into the silver boxes pull out two packages that he wanted to know if they were his or not– he pulls them out and says Carter doesn’t remember exactly what she said afterward but the man turns back around and allegedly lunges at her but she said the attack lasted for over a minute before anyone ran to her aid Another male resident came out and began yelling at Gaspard to get off of Carter The accused attacker jumped away from Carter then but then allegedly grabbed her again and picked her up in what she described as a wrestler move Her body was slammed over the other resident who had come to help The good samaritan resident was able to soon physically stop the attack and get Carter away from the area and to the maintenance office area to wait for the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies “Considering that he had just attacked somebody and the police are on the way I just knew he was going to run off or something But he stays in that area,” Carter said and the police watch his video and they question him Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies charged Gaspard with simple battery but other charges could come from the United States Postal Inspectors which is the law enforcement arm of the USPS Carter has seen multiple doctors for her injuries The first night she was admitted to the hospital for observation after she had bruising on her lower back near her kidneys and a concussion with some brain bruising She also had bruising on her face near her eyes “My bruises and my scars are healing but emotionally and mentally is where I think I’m going to struggle the most,” she said She has not returned to delivering mail yet and feels uneasy doing her job now that she has been attacked She said her fellow mail carriers also feel on edge because of the attack “Delivering mail is already a scary job and you just never know how somebody is that day,” Carter explained UWK has reached out to the large-scale outreach event aims to unite 40 to 50 local churches in an effort to reach the unchurched community which has been in the works for nearly a year is designed to bring together local spiritual leaders and congregations for a powerful four-night event featuring worship Among the guests scheduled to attend are Charles Midlands Lee and that was with some of the spiritual leaders across this region,” Gage said “We cast the vision of all the Bible-believing churches in this part of the state coming together in unity for the purpose of reaching the unchurched.” whose ministry focuses on smaller markets and rural communities emphasized the importance of preparation and leadership in organizing such an event “We’ve been working on this campaign with the local churches in the region now for almost a year We learned from the Billy Graham team many years ago when we had the honor to be with Dr Graham and his crusade in Philadelphia,” he added The event will feature a variety of activities aimed at engaging the community will highlight a community mass choir composed of worship leaders and choir members from churches across Livingston Parish described by Gage as “America’s worship leader,” will be leading worship that evening will take the stage to share his testimony and encourage attendees is also scheduled to speak during the campaign Gage underscored the significance of the event in light of statistics showing a growing disconnect between younger generations and faith “We have been told by the leadership in this area that more than 80% of Livingston Parish is unchurched So three out of four people in this parish are not connected or involved in a local church He also pointed out the spiritual needs of younger generations “We’ve also been told over the years that 90% of all of our public schools across America are unchurched stressing the importance of reaching the next generation through events like this Gage highlighted the urgency of the mission and then it vanishes away.’ We all agree that life is brief so that’s the reason why we do these campaigns across the nation and even around the world—to present the gospel because we believe the gospel is the only message that can change a person’s life.” The event will be held each night at 7 p.m at the Denham Springs Yellow Jacket Stadium and the campaign welcomes individuals and families from all backgrounds to attend For more information, visit Go Tell Ministries’ website or contact local participating churches by: William Weathers // GeauxPreps.com Contributor Denham Springs’ soccer team had an epiphany.  The Yellow Jackets of first-year coach Sean LeBlanc had completed a stretch of matches with victories over Baton Rouge High They were 7-0-1 and riding a wave of emotion and confidence that comes along with positive results over Division I staples such as Catholic and St Paul’s who’ve combined to win 13 state championships I think they started to look at themselves and go ‘we actually have a shot at this,’” LeBlanc said “Once we started putting wins together and started to put wins together against monster programs “We have to understand the way that we play and the way we manage ourselves “We tried to change the mentality of how they were thinking and to be able to play with a target on your back You’re now going to get people’s best games Denham Springs (16-0-1) opens Division I play in the state playoffs on Saturday at 1 p.m 32 Terrebonne (9-9-4) at DSHS’ Yellow Jacket Stadium the Yellow Jackets are undefeated and seeded No 1 – the first public school to hold such distinction since 2013 A first-round win would match Denham Springs against the St Amant-East Ascension winner – a pair of District 5-5A foes – in next week’s regional round “We believe pressure is earned,” LeBlanc said We look at it as a reward and we understand that we’re beatable Everyone’s vulnerable and in the tournament “We just talk about making sure we do the small things right as much as we possibly can,” LeBlanc said “We mitigate the variables that the game itself presents so we don’t beat ourselves If another team is better on that day and happens to take it We focus on not beating ourselves and not letting the moment kind of be bigger than us.” LeBlanc said the balancing act is to enjoy the flowers of the regular season without allowing it to overshadow the team’s pursuit of the school’s first state championship “We don’t want to take that away from them,” he said but always remember that our goal was not this We wanted to get better every game as we went It was one of the goals on the way to the end product and that’s where we’re going “We’ve been very fortunate to come together a lot quicker than anybody would have put money on or had anticipated,” LeBlanc said I walked into a lot of talent on the team and had to put a little organization to it and went after it.” whose father is a native of Erath and moved the family around because of his military background Ohio who has lived in Metairie since 2007.  His coaching career included a six-year stay as an assistant at Brother Martin before leaving to become the head coach at St LeBlanc returned to Brother Martin in a volunteer role and became an assistant once again for the Crusaders winding up with a total of 12 years at the New Orleans-area school Admittedly his knowledge of programs outside of the New Orleans area was limited to St Paul’s and Catholic High when a friend informed him of an opening at Denham Springs following the resignation of Miller Hilliard.  “I didn’t pay that much attention to guys outside the area,” LeBlanc said “That’s what happens when you coach in the city and have 7,000 teams around you I had heard of Denham but hadn’t given them a lot of attention LeBlanc’s coaching resume’ also included his position as the academy director for Slidell’s Youth Soccer Club He has since resigned and accepted a position with the Baton Rouge Soccer Club a former head coach at Brother Martin when LeBlanc was on staff.  LeBlanc was impressed after meeting Hilliard and his team-first approach and was announced as the school’s new coach on May 28 “Lots of people coach for different reasons and I felt they coached for the right reasons,” LeBlanc said The icing on the cake was that the facilities were absolutely unbelievable.” Denham Springs had a soccer program with 11 consecutive postseason appearances under former coach Chris Thorne and Hilliard The Jackets made six trips to the quarterfinals with a breakthrough moment with a semifinal at home against Catholic High in 2020 LeBlanc didn’t conduct tryouts until the end of October and was taken aback by the level of talent assembled.  “That’s when I started to see exactly what I was working with,” he said “To say I was pleasantly surprised would be one of the biggest understatements A lot of individual talent and there’s a lot of team players.  I would put up against anybody in the state,” he said “I feel we have four or five of those kids And we’ve got a lot of role players that really embrace their role and are here to help A brand-new coach with a different philosophy which included moving some players to new positions opened his career at Denham Springs on Nov 15 with a home game against Brother Martin The Jackets won 2-0 and essentially took off The game’s result wasn’t lost on LeBlanc who spent his formative years of coaching the Crusaders “Everybody in the building was always so amazing I left and I wanted to beat the people I just left and you just didn’t know how this was going to take off With a base 4-3-3 formation with plenty of rotations and movement within it LeBlanc was looking to adapt his aggressive style of play to his players instead of trying to pigeonhole them into trying something they weren’t comfortable executing He found the perfect marriage between his players in the attack coupled with a talented midfield and defenders and goalkeeper and the only standing between the Yellow Jackets and perfection was a 1-1 tie on Nov “We started going after it and got that ‘W’ and at the same time we weren’t giving up any goals,” LeBlanc said My personality is that I tend to be aggressive That’s why that worked out well because it fit my personality Once we settled in and started to get to know each other and develop a better rapport and day by day we started to trust each other a little bit more Denham Springs carried momentum from the non-district portion of its schedule which included a 1-0 win over Byrd of Shreveport into District 5-5A play and recorded consecutive wins over East Ascension (6-0) and Live Oak (4-1) going into a showdown with Dutchtown The team’s leading scorer Jankell Arias knocked in a header in the 11th minute and goalkeeper Tate Fuentes and the team’s backline made it stand up in a pivotal 1-0 victory Amant and completed their unbeaten run through the district (outscoring the opposition 21-1) with a 7-0 win over Walker last week “The district games against tremendous programs like St Amant and Dutchtown continued to build our confidence and the belief system in the training and the belief system in the messages the coaches were giving them,” LeBlanc said Fuentes has been the cornerstone of a defense that’s registered 11 shutouts and allowed seven goals this season The senior has 62 saves with converted forwards Lane Sadler serving as the team’s two center backs.  LeBlanc’s been able to rely on a rotation of four players – junior Charles Fruge and junior Mason Bell – at outside backs “Absolutely tremendous,” LeBlanc said of Fuentes “He has to be one of the best goalies in the state He’s got all the qualities of a good keeper “The rotation (at outside backs) has really worked out well,” LeBlanc said “Maybe 80 minutes may be too long for their focus or sometimes that day is a good day for you and they can handle the 80 has 14 goals and 12 assists to lead the way for a team that averages 3.4 goals per outing Junior Jorden Moore has 10 goals and 12 assists and junior Anthony Howard has eight goals and four assists He has eight other players – senior Joshua Beasley and Bell – that have combined for 30 goals and 21 assists “That’s probably one of my favorite things,” he said “We just share the ball and if one guy goes down I have the ability to move people into different spots and fulfill the rotations and Sabio are part of a gifted midfield that’s also played a major role in this year’s success “If we make it that would be wonderful,” LeBlanc said of the state championship match on Feb There’s only one team that gets to hold the (state championship) trophy.  we’re at least going to do everything we can to be successful,” LeBlanc said then I feel we can walk out of there with our head up and chest out and be happy with what we did.”  A huge revival is coming to Livingston Parish Get more local news and videos at AN17.com town Billy Graham,’ meaning that he brings Billy Graham-style crusades to small towns across America Rick has been obedient to God’s call on his life to take the Gospel to places that most other evangelists see only from the air on their way to big cities.” Gage said it’s crucial that no one is overlooked that everyone has the opportunity to hear the Gospel and respond to it “The need and urgency to evangelize the unsaved have never been greater,” he said executive director of GO TELL AMERICA in Atlanta called it fitting that the crusade be held at the Denham Springs stadium because it brings people together in unity for the love of sports “It is a neutral site that removes the barriers that keep people away from churches on Sundays,” Palmer said “With all of the sports victories that occur in stadiums we want to help people find the biggest victory of their lives.” First Baptist Church of Denham Springs has had a longstanding relationship with GO TELL AMERICA especially with the student summer camps the organization provides each year in various states to churches across the nation Leo Miller to pray about discussing with his colleagues in ministry the joint effort of reaching the unchurched in Livingston Parish,” Palmer said ‘Does crusade evangelism still work today?’ The answer is a resounding ‘yes.’ God is still in the business of redeeming people Crusade thing we've had since the Bill Graham crusade back in the '90s," said Richard Blue co-chairman of the host Go Tell Livingston committee and president of the Eastern Louisiana Baptist Association "We're asking churches to go out and find the people in their own communities And do their best not only to invite them but bring them with them to the crusade." which now comprises an Baptist coach Kevin Caballero wrapped up his address to the team writing the following numbers on a whiteboard in the team’s locker room He began with 977 and asked how many points junior Jermaine O’Conner had scored that evening to extend the team’s win streak to five games including 16 during a decisive second-half comeback and when Caballo wrote that numeral on the board it added up to 1,000 career points for O’Conner The response was something that rivaled that of a family’s glee for one of its closest members with O’Conner surrounded by teammates offering congratulations through handshakes and embraces.  It depicted a Denham Springs team that may not possess the qualities of a prototypically constructed team but it exudes other qualities befitting the state’s No 2 team in the LHSAA’s latest Division I non-select power rankings heading into Saturday’s non-district matchup at No 3 Central (17-3) at approximately 7:30 p.m “That’s special right there,” Caballero said of the team’s reaction to O’Conner’s milestone I told the kids you’re building relationships that 45 years down the road you’re still going to have Much like the snowstorm that hit southern Louisiana this week Denham Springs is enjoying a historic season Not since former standout Tasmin Mitchell starred for the Yellow Jackets have they been in such a stratosphere with talk of a state tournament appearance entering the team’s vocabulary A banner that hangs above the Grady Hornsby Gymnasium is a daily reminder of the kind of history this year’s Denham Springs team is chasing The Yellow Jackets haven’t won a state championship since 1956 – or 69 years ago – and last won a district title in 2005 – or 20 years ago “Our plans are to go to Lake Charles (site of the state tournament) and a state championship,” Denham Springs point guard JK O’Conner the team’s lone senior starter and one of six seniors on the team “We’ve just got to stick together; we’ve got to play together.” said last year’s team which went 27-9 and advanced to the state quarterfinals provided a snapshot of what was possible this season.  This is the program’s fourth straight 20-win season “We had a good team last year,” Guerin said We lost two key pieces (Mason Vorise and Brock Smith) I could tell by the chemistry we have on and off the court the way we move the ball around and play hard admits this is the best high school team he’s coached in his 22 seasons is also aware of the pitfalls along the way in a long season.  were the talk of the Division I non-select bracket with a 23-2 record until one of their players was expelled and another became sick contributing to a 4-5 finish that included a home loss to eventual state runner-up Natchitoches Central (72-58) in the state quarterfinals “Last year there were a couple of bad decisions made by players,” Caballero said “Coming back this year I didn’t know what to expect I lost two really good players and leaders in Mason Vorise and Brock Smith and we replaced them with two seniors (JK O’Conner and Guerin) “To get there you’ve got to win some close games and we got off to a good start in Thibodaux (tournament) like we did the previous year We’ve just kind of steamrolled since then.” Chemistry is the foundation of any good team – regardless of the sport –and with this year’s Denham Springs team you tend to learn tendencies,” Guerin said “There may be an example where I know Jeremy (Williams) has a backdoor cut without having to look at him One of the (Golmond) twins in the Parkview game knew Jeremy was cutting and just threw it to him and got an easy layup Denham Springs had a veteran makeup to this year’s team with nine upperclassmen joining forces with sophomore Jeremy Williams who played in all of his team’s games a year ago along with fellow sophomores Trae Dorsey and Tanner Koerner.  Growing up in the Livingston Parish community afforded many opportunities for these players to forge relationships either playing together on the same team or against one another and developing respect for their respective games This year’s team featured the rarity of having two sets of brothers with JK and Jermaine Williams and a set of twins “It helps that we have two sets of brothers,” Caballero said The O’Conners and Golmonds are related and enjoy a relationship that extends on and off the basketball court “I’ve been playing with my brother and the twins for so long I know where they are on the court,” JK O’Conner said Guerin believed that while the team’s on-court communication has been an asset “We can get better about some on-the-court stuff like communicating a little better,” he said “We can continue to build chemistry because chemistry’s going to take us all the way there.” One of the hallmarks of Denham Springs’ success thus far has been its ability to share the basketball The Yellow Jackets average 17 assists a game led by the Golmond twins – Da’Sean (3.9) and Da’Jean (3.2) Balanced scoring is another way the Yellow Jackets have been difficult for opposing teams trying to solve With a rotation of players that can extend seven to eight deep Denham Springs has had three games where five different players have reached double figures for a team averaging 70 points he’s just one of two double-figure scorers that also includes Jeremy Williams (13.2) But the Jackets’ balance extends to both of the Goldmonds – Da’Jean at 9.6 and Da’Sean at 9.2 – and Dorsey (8.1) provides a scoring punch off the bench followed by JK O’Conner (6.4) and we’ve had the opportunity to win some games by big margins the guys on the bench are getting a chance to play “All those guys playing those minutes builds some closeness there.” Denham Springs has played 65% of its games away from home which can often become a measuring stick for successful teams able to manage such a stretch Caballero has taken DSHS to five different tournaments ranging from Thibodaux High Before this year’s team won 22 of their first 23 games Guerin saw signs of a team building something special “I could sense it in summer league,” he said “We played teams like (Division I select No but the second time around we were hungry and hung in there with them I could sense we were going to get after everybody we played.” Nine of the first 10 of Denham Springs’ wins took place in tournament action with the Yellow Jackets able to lift Walker’s stranglehold on the Livingston Parish tournament title The Yellow Jackets mowed down their first two opponents in the parish tournament to face No They bolted to a 31-8 first-quarter lead and rolled to a 78-40 victory and returned the parish trophy to campus for the first time in 10 years “That may have been the best first quarter I’ve seen in my high school career and I didn’t do much coaching,” Caballero said 1 seed last year and lost to Walker in a bang-bang game (55-51 loss in the title game The kids were really excited about winning the tournament and it’s something I hadn’t done in nine years (Walker coach Anthony) Schiro had been keeping us out of that trophy Denham Springs had won it the year before I got here The Livingston Parish title was the team’s first objective but is secondary to what remains in play “It’s been a while since we won the Livingston Parish tournament which was a goal,” Guerin said It’s our senior year and we’re just trying to go big It’s been disappointing losing the games we’ve lost in the playoffs these last few years.” There have been building blocks along the way that have established a high level of confidence that’s continued to expand was part of Denham Springs’ showing in Thibodaux the Yellow Jackets were matched with reigning two-time defending Division I non-select state champion Ponchatoula and passed with flying colors Led by five players scoring in double figures – with both Golmonds and Jeremy Williams all scoring 13 – the Yellow Jackets secured a 71-64 victory on Dec “Ponchatoula’s always competitive,” Guerin said “We saw that we can hang with some of the teams that’s going to get to the state championship (game).” Caballero also acknowledged the boost of confidence his team received from such a game and that carried into the Livingston Parish and St The Yellow Jackets clipped Franklin Parish (No 4 in Division II non-select) 79-62 and finished play with a 63-56 win over perennial Lake Charles-area standout Washington Marion in the St It’s been custom during his career for Caballero to keep his teams together during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays and this year was no different with trips to Lake Charles and LaPlace “A lot of kids don’t ever get to do that,” he said “It builds the team; it bonds them together Some people don’t want to give up their holidays and I want them to be exposed to the teams we play in these tournaments.  “We went to West Monroe’s tournament last year and played Carroll and Neville,” he said “It builds some camaraderie between the team Denham Springs incurred its lone defeat of the season during its holiday break In the team’s second tournament game against Vandebilt Catholic on Jan 3 the Terriers took a 35-29 lead at halftime and took a 55-50 margin into the fourth quarter The Yellow Jackets were outscored 16-9 and lost 10 in the Division II select power ratings The team’s true spirit was evident a day later and facing a 28-24 halftime deficit.  The Yellow Jackets answered out of the locker room with a 27-4 third-quarter surge for a 66-48 victory that five players contributed double figures in scoring – topped by Dorsey’s 13 points with Jeremy Williams and Jermaine Williams adding 12 Dorsey had three of the team’s eight 3-pointers in the come-from-behind win “It’s a Saturday and you’re wondering how we’re going to do They punched us pretty good in the face and they’re up at halftime We outscored them in the third quarter and it was a big win Denham Springs remained on the road where it showed its mettle in a 55-51 win over Plaquemine on Jan twice rallying from a one-point deficit in the final minute of play for a 55-51 win Denham Springs had to weather another kind of storm on the bench with two fouls and zero points the Jackets trailed 23-21 at halftime until O’Conner developed a hot hand He scored all 19 of his points in the second half and Da’Jean Golmond drained a pair of 3s and scored 11 points in a 60-55 triumph “We have to keep our composure throughout the game,” said JK O’Conner four steals and didn’t turn the ball over against McKinley “If it isn’t the end of the fourth quarter the game is never over Such games have given Caballero an indication of the team’s grit.  “Winning builds that because you never feel like you’re out of it,” he said That’s a good game for us to gear ourselves.” Denham Spring was presented with another such challenge in its most recent game.  playing before a hearty road crowd at Parkview Baptist fell behind 36-29 at halftime when Jermaine O’Conner came alive in the second half with 16 of his team’s points The team is 8-0 this season in games determined by 10 points or less Somebody’s diving on the floor trying to get a loose ball we’re clapping for him and celebrating him There’s a sense you’re doing it for the next guy.” Denham Springs’ lineup may not appear to be imposing until you have to face it The Yellow Jackets’ starters – the two O’Conner brothers The team’s tallest player – 6-3 senior forward – Christian Pourciau is a reserve averaging 3.2 points and shooting 67% “Due to the lack of our size we need to use the whole floor,” Caballero said “The flip side of playing a team with big kids such as McKinley and Franklin Parish they’re playing together and sharing the basketball but we’re going to make do with what we’ve got and try to play to our strengths and see how that works out with seven points separating Jermaine O’Conner (13.9) from his brother JK (6.4) is a testament to one of their strengths The Jackets shoot 51% collectively and 31% from 3-point range (4.5 made per game) with Jeremy Williams topping the team from beyond the arc at 37% JK O’Conner and Dorsey are each shooting 32% with Jermaine O’Conner and Da’Sean Golmond at 31% and Da’Sean Golmond at 30% De’Sean Golmond leads the Jackets with 34 3-pointers and Dorsey adds 23 especially in high school,” Caballero said If you start showing hard and leaving a kid standing behind the 3-point line we’ve got a couple of guys that can make them We’ve made some big ones this year that helped us in games where we were behind and in games we were up “You may not have the size; you may not have the finesse,” Caballero said you’re usually going to give yourself an opportunity to win.” Denham Springs has nearly 600 more steals than its opponents and Dorsey (55) that trigger a defense that allows 47 points a game “We know if we can get everybody going and once everybody gets going I knew everybody in the locker room would come to work every day and we would stick together Denham Springs has flourished on the defensive end where the Jackets have limited seven opponents to 40 points or less They’ve limited their opposition to 39% shooting and have enjoyed a plus-1 rebound differential Jermaine O’Conner has stood tall with a 4.7 rebound average and a team-high 12 blocks while both Jeremy Williams and JK O’Conner (3.95) follow and Williams has taken a team-best 14 charges “We’re really quick all over the court and everybody gets after it,” Guerin said Featured Image Courtesy of Johnny Lombardi of Denham Springs TV Live Oak’s starting Springs turned in a hot and cold performance in Tuesday night's LHSAA Division I nonselect playoff game against Westgate at Walker High but the Yellow Jackets turned up the heat when they needed to On a night when the good far outweighed the bad fourth-seeded Denham Springs turned in a 75-57 regional-round win over No The win advances Denham Springs (28-3) to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year but we're healthy so hopefully we can bring our best on Friday because we're going to need it," Jackets coach Kevin Caballero said and I don't think they're satisfied just making the quarters Denham Springs got 26 points from Jeremy Williams and 18 from De'Jean Golmond who accounted for half of the eight 3-pointers the Yellow Jackets made Denham Springs outscored Westgate 23-6 in the second quarter to take a 45-24 halftime lead Williams started an 8-0 run with a three-point play Westgate forced six turnovers in the quarter's last two minutes and outscored the Jackets 10-2 Trailing 59-47 going into the fourth quarter Westgate got as close as 61-50 before Denham Springs regained control with a 10-2 run "The strength of our team is also the weakness of our team," Caballero said good things are happening and then we make some bad decisions and turn the basketball over We had a chance in the third quarter to really turn the corner who scored 27 points in the Tigers' first-round win over St The Tigers won the rebounding battle 43-39 but were done in by poor shooting Denham Springs led by as many as five points in the first quarter but Dakylon Joseph's 3-pointer helped Westgate close the gap to 22-18 going to the second Westgate scored the first basket of the second quarter before Denham Springs went on a 19-2 run that carried to the last minute of the half Denham Springs coach Kevin Caballero cheers on his team in the second quarter against Plaquemine on Friday To capture the significance of Denham Springs’ basketball season you have to go back to before the players on this current team were born The Yellow Jackets were a force on the Class 5A scene during the career of McDonald’s All-American Tasmin Mitchell a program that was a regular in the state tournament Fast forward more than two decades and this year’s Denham Springs team has drawn similar reviews to that era The Yellow Jackets put the finishing touches on their regular season Friday with a 75-54 victory over St Amant to lock up the District 5-5A runner-up spot 5-1 in 5-5A) won its last four games and is expected to hang onto its No 3 power rating in the Division I nonselect bracket thus earning a first-round bye in next week’s state playoffs He’s a great guy,” Denham Springs coach Kevin Caballero said of Mitchell currently an LSU basketball assistant coach We ended season two and we’re fixing to start season three.” Denham Springs shot 57% (31 of 55) for the game and guard Jermaine O’Conner led three players in double figures with 11 of his 19 points in the first half who led by 19 points (32-13) midway through the second quarter turned a 43-29 halftime lead into a 59-38 advantage with 56 seconds to go in the third quarter on Golmond’s basket following a turnover which will travel in the first round of the playoffs enjoyed its best moments of game by putting together a 9-2 run that bridged the end of the third quarter with the beginning of the fourth made four of five shots in that stretch with Brock Lalande completing a three-point play with 44.1 seconds showing in the third quarter DJ Schomberg scored six of his team-high 15 to draw his team to within 63-51 with 4:17 remaining but we have to finish around the rim against a team like that You have to slow down their transition and we didn’t do a great job of that.” Denham Springs answered with a 12-1 spurt over the next 2½ minutes with J.K O’Conner and reserve Larry Guerin fueling the run with four points each closed the run with a layup in transition to make it 73-52 with 1:28 left Denham Springs closed with an 11-0 run over the last 2½ minutes of the first quarter to lead 23-10 Golmond was the catalyst in the final minute with a 3-pointer from the wing and drove through the lane capped by JK O’Conner’s 15-footer with three seconds to play DENHAM SPRINGS - Mardi Gras is here and the Krewe of Denham Springs hit the route Saturday The good times rolled over in Livingston Parish with over 30 floats made their way through downtown Denham Springs and the community flooded the streets in hopes of catching the best throws This year's theme is ‘The Greatest Show.’ King Maurice Keen and Queen Kay Keen have been riding in this parade for over 20 years and say it's incredible to see how much it's grown.  and they're all going throw me something and we're like yes "The Krewe of Denham Springs is 45 years old and the only time we stopped was COVID so we've gone through all of that and it's time for everybody to get back to it and just have a good time that could bring you down is rain but you know what you'd just get wet and still have a good time," Landry said DENHAM SPRINGS - The Denham Springs Yellow Jackets soccer team is looking to sweep through the post-season playoffs in part because of their aggressive attacking style of play and history of growing up with and playing with one another “We try to be extremely aggressive," head coach Sean Leblanc said of his teams approach "We try to try to control the field we try to control the ball I'm a big believer in being aggressive and going after team is already not really waiting around too much The Jackets have proven that by scoring 58 goals this season while only allowing seven total That kind of goal differential has helped Denham Springs soccer rise to the number two team ranked in the nation "We come with that attacking mindset anytime we've gone down,  we just know we didn't come into the game to score one or two goals five," senior defensive midfielder Joshua Beasley said Beasley also said the players history of growing up with one another from PARDS ball to high school helps this team play at the highest levels "That chemistry that you built up from U-11 you just know what movements guys are going to make," Beasley said of the familiarity with this team "You know where your midfield is going to be So just in those big games and there's big moments where communication might lack or even in the small games you just understand each other so well that you make up for it in that process."
