(7News) — The National Weather Service confirmed a EF-0 tornado struck St Maryland during Wednesday's severe weather The tornado touched down in Mechanicsville between 8:42 p.m NWS said it was on the ground for 3.3 miles or 75 yards a brief spin-up tornado was created when two thunderstorms merged over central Charles County in between La Plata and Dentsville Mary's County where the tornado happened The storm damaged over two dozens trees within a three mile radius near the intersection Maryland State Route 5/Point Lookout Road and Maryland State Route 235/Three Notch Road NWS said the damage reports were sporadic and isolated but tree trunks snapped and were uprooted with wind speeds estimated at 60 and 70 miles per hour The tornado initially touched down near homes 200 yards southwest of the intersection of Route 5 and Route 235 One tree fell on a home causing damage to the roof The NWS team said the wind speeds at this site were up to 85 mph The tornado then lifted and moved east-northeast Damage was found three miles from the initial location where the tornado touched down Trees were down on both sides of the 40900 block of Delabrooke Road Residents in the area were alerted via a phone alert before the damage occurred and also reported a half-dollar size hail (WACH) — A Richland County deputy was fired and then arrested after Sheriff Lott says he was connected to a Fairfield County investigation that started last month was arrested and charged with four counts of Grand Larceny over $10,000 and 1 count of Conspiracy by the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department Officials say Edwards and Terry Huling Jr. were connected to several larceny cases at the same property near US Hwy 321 North and White Oak area and I will not tolerate any criminal activity from any of my deputies,” Richland County Sheriff Lott said in a statement “It makes me angry to see someone who was entrusted with upholding the law breaking it.” Richland County was made aware of the investigation in mid-January after Fairfield County told them that Edwards might've been involved in an incident Edwards was hired by RCSD in May 2019 and held the rank of master deputy in Region 2 which covers the Dentsville area of Richland County Both men have been turned over to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department for processing and booking We have the address for the funeral home & the family on file If you're not happy with your card we'll send a replacement or refund your money Charles Thomas “Tom” Medlin, 82, of Camden, died on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
