Prior to IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson taking part in the Musicians Institute's MI Conversation Series on April 21 in Hollywood the Musicians Institute YouTube channel got to hang with him in the green room and ask him some questions before he hit the stage Regarding what advice he would give to artists Bruce said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET):  "One of the most important things is self-belief I've played with people who have been astonishing musicians but were forever doomed to be playing in their bedroom because they had no self-belief because they did not go out there and put themselves out there and perform so the people notice them it's like if you're the greatest guitar player in the world and you sit in the middle of a tent in the Sahara Desert and other musicians will try and put you down as well because they're all trying to step on top of you to do X And try not to just go down the rabbit hole of a particular type of music even if you love that particular type of music." but if you make the performance all about yourself What you need to do is have the self-belief to use whatever talent it is you have to tell a story to have some feeling inside that you can express that's real and authentic and then people will listen because it resonates with them 'cause you knock it out there and they knock it back and you go And then you chuck it out again and you gradually warm up the pot That's why concerts are always better at the end than they are at the beginning Dickinson said: "Whatever the last thing I did that's what keeps me going — not the thing I did 40 years ago or anything else like that I don't listen to a lot of stuff that I did What were we thinking?' Or I hear some technical thing like How did we let that go?' So stuff like that because what you want is… It is an instant reaction people get to music There are moments of technical excellence that coincide with emotional impact we were a 10 today.' But sometimes you don't — sometimes you get an emotional I argue it's always the emotional nine and a half 'I don't like him because he can't sing a high D above C…' 'Fuck off Bruce also touched upon how music distribution has changed over the years and what it really means for artists' livelihoods He said:  "Obviously when the whole file-sharing thing kicked off in the very early days the major labels didn't understand what was about to hit them All of our favorite music is suddenly free,' which was very nice for them It was not a great disaster for established bands with a live following because they could still sell enough product but they could still go out and tour and make their money and make a living and merchandising But for everybody else on the planet that was up and coming Spotify [was a] catastrophe… So you have to use your creative imagination in trying to present what you are doing in a way that people are excited about it but it's just the media in which you have to do it is now different And I know there are people who sit in their den with their podcast mic on and do basically kind of like a live broadcast every week with subscribers And that's the way they make music and do it But it's not the same as going out there with a live concert and building a physical community in one place that does that space But it may be a way to alleviate some of the problems associated with kind of digital distribution all the record labels that have evolved from the ashes of the old system are all very tech savvy and realize that you can stop people giving your music away you can still sell records and things like that and that there are other avenues There is endless appetite for consumption of music so somebody somewhere must be making some money out of it." Bruce's "The Mandrake Project Live 2025" North American tour will kick off in Anaheim California at the House of Blues on August 22 and take the band across North America including shows in New York with festival appearances at Rocklahoma (Oklahoma) and Louder Than Life (Kentucky),with more to be announced The tour will also include a quick return to Brazil for the prestigious The Town festival at the City Of Light in São Paulo Joining the IRON MAIDEN singer on the "The Mandrake Project Live 2025" North American tour will once again be his 2024 backing band featuring Dave Moreno (drums),Mistheria (keyboards) and Tanya O'Callaghan (bass),alongside the group's latest additions songwriter and multi-platinum-credited producer Philip Näslund and Swiss session and touring guitarist Chris Declercq (who played on Dickinson's "Rain On The Graves" single) Bruce's longtime guitarist and collaborator Roy "Z" Ramirez is not part of the touring lineup Bruce last performed with his solo band on in August 2002 at the legendary Wacken Open Air festival in Germany Bruce and Roy recorded "The Mandrake Project" largely at Los Angeles's Doom Room with Roy doubling up as both guitarist and bassist The recording lineup for "The Mandrake Project" was rounded out by Mistheria and Moreno both of whom also featured on Bruce's last solo studio album Dickinson made his recording debut with IRON MAIDEN on the "Number Of The Beast" album in 1982 He quit the band in 1993 in order to pursue his solo career and was replaced by Blaze Bayley who had previously been the lead singer of the metal band WOLFSBANE After releasing two traditional metal albums with former MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith Dickinson rejoined the band in 1999 along with Smith a bird that normally can be found no farther north than southern Kansas and South Carolina turned up this week at a home in Felch Township in Dickinson County which is related to the native indigo buntings are considered among the most colorful birds in North America When Sandy Chartier glanced out her glass deck doors Tuesday and saw this sitting on her bird feeders “I couldn’t believe it,” the longtime Felch Township resident said finch-sized bird made itself so at home on her deck the rest of the day that Chartier was able to get several decent photos with her phone as it hopped around on the doormat and bellied up to the clear feeder she has attached by suction cups to the window She then turned to Facebook with the photos “Anyone know what kind of bird this is?” she asked “I’ve been feeding birds for years and have never had one here like this before.” The answer: It’s the kind of bird people get very excited about seeing here because there’s a reason why you’ve never had one like it before While considered fairly common in the southern U.S. the well-named painted bunting normally nests no farther north than southeastern Kansas or South Carolina So the odds of one turning up in far northern Michigan are long Much less at a home well off the beaten path in Felch Township Vagrants like this bunting can be caused by a number of factors a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources conservation biologist turned up this week at a home in Felch Township in Dickinson County.(Betsy Bloom/Daily News photo) Severe weather like a hurricane or snowstorm might force the bird wildly off course or other issues that affect the food supply may make them seek a better situation But this likely is a case of “overshooting,” when a southern species that winters in Mexico and Central America keeps pushing north well past its usual range during spring migration Because of their plumage and fondness for bird feeders male painted buntings regularly get noticed each year when they wander off course Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s website for reporting sightings throughout the world showed at least a dozen records of painted buntings in the Upper Peninsula probably stray into the north as well but go unnoticed and underreported it can be considered a rare treat to have one That has to be in the top three colorful birds (in North America),” he said It looks like it’s been dipped in paint.” Painted buntings come from a particularly colorful family this family includes the familiar northern cardinal rose-breasted grosbeaks and scarlet tanagers all of which come north to nest in late spring each year But none of those are quite as decked out as the male painted bunting “Now I just talk to him when he comes to the window,” she said “I have a hard time calling him a he as a host of other species — brown-headed cowbirds goldfinches and more — just in a couple of hours Wednesday She’s put out more feeders to keep up with the traffic But Painter definitely is the star while he remains “I just love the fact he chose my area,” Chartier said “I was thinking how sad I would be when he doesn’t show up any more … but he has his own life to lead.” MARQUETTE — A Sands Township man died Wednesday after Downey the basis of the interview was centered around The Mandrake Project which is both Dickinson's latest solo album and ongoing comic series in partnership with Z2 there's much more going on in his world than any one particular project He's been balancing touring with Iron Maiden and reactivating his presence on the world's stages as a solo artist over the last two years having previously embarked on spoken word tours as well Those in attendance also had the opportunity to present questions for Dickinson Who is the French experimental artist on his wife's playlist who is completely blowing his mind we share some of the most memorable and insightful moments from this two-part video (which you can watch at the bottom of the page) along with photos to bring you closer inside this exclusive event at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood with Z2 It is exhausting just trying to recollect all the different things Bruce Dickinson has done and continues to do with his life and career He'll turn 67 later this year and seems to have taken a drink from the well of everlasting life When asked where all this energy is coming from with another daunting tour schedule coming up balancing Iron Maiden and his solo venture he does have a threshold, but we're not entirely convinced "I do like working hard," he says That's when your performance is actually slowly sliding down the cliff because you've overdone it calming down means leaving his North American solo tour this fall after a Sept 4 performance in Florida to play at The Town festival in Sao Paolo of course, kicks off 20 days after Iron Maiden wrap up over 30 dates of a 50th anniversary tour that begins in late May Iron Maiden's Run For Your Lives tour will celebrate the band's 50th anniversary with material spanning the first album through Fear of the Dark It also marks the debut of new drummer Simon Dawson who has been brought in following the retirement of the legendary Nicko McBrain Dickinson reveals that on The Future Past Tour last year Iron Maiden had Dawson along with them as an emergency failsafe "It was kind of insurance for us because we were hoping Nick was going to make the tour but there were some times during the show where but his physical body was really [ailing] and we needed to have a backup," he explains McBrain had remarkably worked his way back from a stroke that left him partially paralyzed just months before a 2023 tour. The drummer, currently 72, recently opened up about his retirement from the road acknowledging the difficulty in managing his body day-to-day already having chemistry with him through their years in British Lion together. Still Dickinson confesses that the band wondered if and how it would or could work Maiden rented a rehearsal space in Portland I was pleasantly shocked," the singer says "We went through the whole set without a break We went through the entire set of the tour that we were on at the time Dickinson notes other drummers were name-checked by fans as potential suitors "One of the reasons we didn't pick those other type of drummers — they were very good drummers nothing wrong with their drumming — they all wanted to sound like Nick You shouldn't even try to replace him you don't want a Nicko clone," the singer reasons "You want a drummer that plays the material and plays their own style." "If I closed my eyes during rehearsal it's like having Clive Burr back in the band." Nearly 20 years passed between the release of Tyranny of Souls and Dickinson's most recent solo album, The Mandrake Project But don't worry — you won't have to wait that long again for a new solo album "I've just been in the demo studio with everybody for the last three weeks and we ended up with 18 tracks in 15 days," the singer says of the follow-up record "It's gonna be a really cool album We started off with him doing the [Dolby] Atmos mixes and then kind of morphed into 'I take it you do stereo as well.' And he's great we are just keeping the same crew on this record And [I'm] looking to record it next year April is kind of free zone for me next year." READ MORE: Bruce Dickinson Put His Hero's Grave Dirt Into Deluxe Edition of 'The Mandrake Project' Graphic Novel asked what bands Dickinson is currently listening to The singer repeats the name of the person who submitted the question and it appears to have brought French experimental artist Igorrr to the forefront of his mind "It is absolutely extraordinary talent full-on opera into death metal and back again He also listens to a lot of his wife Leana's Deezer playlists because "she has pretty good taste." What's on the playlists "Cookie Monster" death metal stuff to Uli Jon Roth-era Scorpions to Chicago to Yes "This is such a well put together song I know it's a bit AOR/middle of the road but damn that's a good song." The 10-minute "You and I" off Yes' 1972 masterpiece Close to the Edge was another standout When talking about onstage influences such as Jethro Tull's codpiece-clad Ian Anderson and Deep Purple guitarist and rock 'n' roll agitator Ritchie Blackmore Dickinson explains how he was drawn to their physical energy onstage "He was doing all this crazy stuff with his codpiece and twirling his flute around," he says of Anderson "And I liked Ritchie because Ritchie was always chucking his guitar." For those reasons he decided the music he'd pursue would have a similar "kinetic" quality "Which is why I still to this day run around like a lunatic." Downey quips that if not for those influences we may have never seen Dickinson running onstage with a "bird mask" on referencing the feathery face covering the singer is known to wear when Iron Maiden play "Powerslave" live "That reminds me," Dickinson says "I need to phone up my costume girl and say A spoiler for Iron Maiden's 50th anniversary Run For Your Lives tour which kicks off in just a couple of weeks? The Oscar-winner said the story was “too big for one film”, and did not work as a TV series, adding: “We’re not just making one film about the Beatles – we’re making four. “Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.” According to Mendes, Tom Rothman, the boss of Sony, which is producing the movies, called them “the first binge-able theatrical experience”. It marks the first time Apple, the Beatles’ record company, and the two living band members, McCartney and Starr, have granted the rights to their stories for the big screen. In an interview with People magazine, 84-year-old Starr said he was “excited to see what [Mendes] does with” the “madness of making four movies at the same time … there’ll be Beatles in mine around when I joined, and there’ll be Beatles in Paul’s. We’ll all be there.” The stars of The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event were revealed on stage, all dressed in black, at the annual industry event for Hollywood. Mescal and Quinn then recited from the Beatles’ song Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: “It’s wonderful to be here “There had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation,” Mendes told the audience adding: “I can assure you there is still plenty left to explore and I think we found a way to do that.” Rumours had swirled for months about who would play the band members, especially after the Gladiator II director, Ridley Scott, appeared to accidentally reveal Mescal had been cast as McCartney back in December dodged speculation that he would play Lennon telling an interviewer it would be a “brilliant opportunity” But there are already ripples of backlash to the casting of four non-scouse actors – two of them Irish – as the famous sons of Liverpool “Thank goodness none of them are already known to have a famously terrible scouse accent amirite?!” wrote Amy-Leigh Shaw on Bluesky referring to Keoghan’s on/off Liverpool twang in the film Saltburn Aiden Byrne said the Beatles were an incredible band but “unless these films have some startling new angle then all they’re gonna do is make everyone realise that doing scouse accents properly is hard” The Guardian’s own film critic, Peter Bradshaw, got stuck in, writing that the absence of actors from Merseyside “could be an issue” Criticism too was levelled at the actors’ ages – Mescal is 29 playing a character who was 27 when the band broke up – and their physiques writing: “Finally we will get to see four movies that ask the question: ‘What if the Beatles had six pack abs?’” who will play John Lennon in the upcoming Beatles biopics I’ve been told that the English actor has proposed to his singer girlfriend Rose Gray and she has been showing off a massive diamond engagement ring The childhood sweethearts met at school and have been together for years but have taken things to the next level just as both of their careers are really taking off Harris starred in the erotic thriller Babygirl last year opposite Nicole Kidman while Rose has been tipped for great things following the release in January of her debut album Louder which comes highly recommended by the Bizarre team A source said: “Harris has been with Rose for years and years For everyone who knows them it was a matter of when He popped the question a while back and they’re both over the moon “They aren’t planning on rushing down the aisle straight away but it’s exciting for them both They are each other’s biggest fans and it’s like they were made for each other.”  The couple live together in East London and share a British shorthair cat called Misty Blue. And they’ve already put their relationship to the test by working together, with Harris directing her music videos for 2019’s Blue and 2023’s Afraid of Nothing.  Speaking previously about that, Harris said: “We’re so close that we can just be very direct. And I think she was the same with me, where if I had a crap idea, she’d say, ‘No, we’re not doing that.’”  She added: “Harris brought an element of chaos and rawness that I’ve never had before in a video. I was able to lose myself completely. I love a pop girlie video, but Harris brought the cinema.”  LADY Gaga appears to be the love child of the abominable snowman and a crow as she stole the first weekend of Coachella Festival in California She wore the feathered look complete with white monster hands as she belted out mega hit Bad Romance Other looks included Gaga wearing armour and crutches for a stripped-back rendition of Her hour-and-a-half set contained no less than seven full costume changes – plus mini changes – and multiple wig changes she also showed off her musical skills by playing the guitar and piano The show has gone down as one of – if not the – greatest in both Coachella and Gaga history It’s certainly a hit with Bizarre’s Jack and Howell who both woke up at 6:50am to watch her performance live And rather than be exhausted after her seriously high-energy show I’m told Gaga hosted a private afterparty backstage at Coachella with free-flowing booze and her new choreographer Paris Goebel on the This week I am in the middle of production week for Cat Wranglers Productions’ live show at the Belfield Theater and Performance Center. Production week is kind of like finals week in college, or the week before your wedding, or the week after your baby is born. On steroids. Our home theater in Belfield is a working movie theater. That means we rehearse five nights a week onstage, Sunday through Thursday. During the other two nights, as well as Sunday afternoon, there are movies shown on that huge screen with which we share the stage. Most actors rehearse with a set around them. We have a movie screen. Instead of putting up the set for our rehearsals, we put masking tape lines on the floor and write “wall” on the masking tape with a felt-tip pen. We also write, “door,” “window,” and “please don’t walk through this imaginary wall,” on the tape lines. On the Sunday of production week, as soon as the movie is done, we erect our set. The walls go where the tape says “wall” and the windows and doors are set on their marked spots. Sometimes things get rearranged, because what looks good on tape does not always work well in performance. Then we have two nights of tech rehearsals and two dress rehearsals. We place our collective fates in the hands of the Gods of Technology. Lights, soundtrack, special effects, and props. Lights often stop working or become un-programmed for no particular reason. The computer forgets how to interface with the soundboard. Special effects sometimes have no effect. Props. I have learned to keep two backups for each prop. Props, in the hands of actors who are in the zone, have short life expectancies. I once glued a plastic glass back together on a nightly basis. Every night it was thrown at a wall, and broken. Why do we do this? For love of the art of theater. We are a small not-for-profit. We work on a shoestring budget. We have no employees, only volunteers who give of their time and talents to build furniture and sets, create costumes, and learn lines. We even video our own theatrical trailers which are shown before the movies at the theater. We rely upon the support of our audiences. In our early days we performed at various venues in Dickinson. About ten years ago we moved to the Belfield Theater. Our audiences followed us, and we found new friends in Belfield and the nearby towns. Our audiences are absolutely the best. They have never let us down. And this weekend we look forward to performing for them once again. “Break a leg!” cast and crew of “Look Who’s Laughing” by John Randall. 1);}}@media screen and (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce){.css-wjxay9-SquareButton{transition-property:background-color;transition-duration:0ms;transition-timing-function:cubic-bezier(0 1);}}@media screen and (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce){.css-152q15n-SquareButton{transition-property:background-color;transition-duration:0ms;transition-timing-function:cubic-bezier(0 1);}}.css-x340e0-SquareButton{margin:0;padding:0;display:inline-grid;-webkit-column-gap:8px;column-gap:8px;grid-template-columns:repeat(3 1);}}@media screen and (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce){.css-x340e0-SquareButton{transition-property:background-color;transition-duration:0ms;transition-timing-function:cubic-bezier(0 1);}}.css-v6oqvx{margin:0;font-family:Lato,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:12px;line-height:20px;font-weight:700;letter-spacing:0px;font-style:normal;text-transform:none;font-stretch:normal;padding:0.5px 0px;}.css-v6oqvx::before{content:'';margin-bottom:-0.4973em;display:block;}.css-v6oqvx::after{content:'';margin-top:-0.4463em;display:block;}Listen The company also warned that tariffs will impact its 2025 earnings by 25 cents a share, with adjusted full-year profit now expected to be between $14.06 a share and $14.34 a share, below the FactSet consensus estimate of $14.43 a share. DICKINSON — To recognize the critical role of assistive technology April 30 as Assistive Technology Awareness Day hosted one of several events held across the state educating attendees about tools designed to support independence was on site with a wide range of items that help improve people’s daily lives “Everybody deserves to have as much independence as possible,” said Wanner responding to a question about why assistive technology matters “If we can give them a weighted spoon or a plate guard that can make it possible once again for them to go eat out with their family at a restaurant Janelle Stoneking serves as vice president of the board for North Dakota Assistive the definition of assistive technology covers a broad spectrum of devices “We need to normalize the process of assistive technology because in reality everyone uses assistive technology in one way or another,” said Stoneking “From Apple Watches to rocker switches for lights assistive technology is all about approaching a process so that everyone is successful.” Stoneking described the increased freedom and quality of life many users experience She demonstrated a cup carrier designed for individuals with tremors to reduce spills and described how a sticker decal applied to a door helped a woman with dementia remain in her home for an extra year and a half and the stickers made the door look like a bookshelf instead of a door,” said Stoneking “That one simple change gave her an extra year and a half in her home.” Wanner said the Bismarck hub for North Dakota Assistive offers a full range of items individuals can try out including electronic devices preloaded with the Proloquo app “Devices and apps can be so expensive,” said Wanner people can see if something will be a good fit for them before they spend that much money.” event also toured the Universal Changing Place (UCP) restroom in the T-Rex Plaza some individuals with disabilities had to travel home just to use the restroom Many charge after allegedly posting an anonymous threat to assassinate local officials in a Facebook group used widely by city residents to air grievances and exchange opinions Austin Stengel was arrested April 22 and charged with one Class C felony count of terrorizing following a March 30 comment he allegedly posted in the community Facebook group “What’s Up Dickinson." “Assassinate one by one N show them we the people are still in charge F.A.F.O.,” the comment read which stands for “f*** around and find out,” is widely used online to suggest that provocative actions may lead to serious consequences Although the comment was posted without a name law enforcement officials were able to trace it back to Stengel during the course of their investigation Stengel was taken into custody after a warrant was issued and is currently being held at the Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center on a $10,000 cash bond To avoid any potential or perceived conflict of interest the Stark County State’s Attorney’s Office referred the case to Adams County State’s Attorney Aaron Roseland Stengel is represented by public defender Jodi Lynn Colling of Mandan he will be required to waive extradition to North Dakota and must remain at least 100 feet away from all government buildings unless granted prior permission His preliminary hearing and arraignment are scheduled for June 9 at 2:30 p.m “What’s Up Dickinson,” where the alleged threat was posted serves as a digital town square for many local residents the Facebook group is known for lively — and at times contentious — commentary on local issues from potholes and property taxes to government transparency a person commits terrorizing if they threaten to commit any crime of violence with intent to instill fear or cause disruption A Class C felony carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine “We needed a second rink for 200-plus kids and now here we are with two rinks and we've more than doubled that number already,” Dallas Kuntz Initial renderings and committee planning for a third rink began before 2020 with plans to build the new sheet on the northwest side of the existing Charbonneau Arena the COVID-19 pandemic brought those plans to a halt “That committee is still intact and the conversations are still happening but ultimately it boils down to funding,” Kuntz said it's gotten a lot more expensive even just to build a basic sheet of ice.” Comparable projects across North Dakota show what Dickinson might expect the MAYSA Arena’s third rink expansion — completed in 2016 — cost $10.9 million the VFW Sports Center in Bismarck recently added a third rink These numbers reflect the rising cost of labor and materials particularly in a state where weather often limits construction to spring and summer draws in participants from surrounding counties in the southwest corner of North Dakota serves a regional base of nearly 35,000 people With no other multi-rink ice centers in immediate proximity the West River Ice Center functions as the only arena for aspiring players to step on the ice.  “We kind of view it like we do all the recreational amenities across the community We're always trying to balance what needs we can fulfill across the entire community versus just one location,” Benjamin Rae executive director of Dickinson Parks and Recreation “I would say that a third sheet of ice is one of many different facilities that we're looking at to determine what's going to have the greatest impact on our community.” “One big thing that's going to be important for us to make this third rink happen is if we want community support there have to be elements besides hockey that the facility is used for,” he said which would connect to our main Charbonneau rink would give our region the ability to host much bigger events because that rink would not keep ice year round.” The 2014 Cornerstone Arena expansion was funded through a city bond repaid by the hockey club and Parks and Recreation A similar public-private model is being considered for this new addition “As we sit down and work with the hockey club on their financial involvement — and certainly there would probably be a fundraising effort through the community — we’re also considering what we’d be asking from our citizens,” Rae said “We did a fairly comprehensive survey in 2023 of what amenities the community wanted and a third sheet of ice was on that list.” Kuntz and the Dickinson hockey community believes Dickinson is ready for that next step A hockey season is probably longer than most other sports but our hockey community — we all convene under one roof every week for practice,” he said “Our hockey membership and families — and even past families in our community — are so supportive They understand what it takes to grow a good program and give kids the opportunity to play.” “I know I speak for every other community in the West — we want western North Dakota hockey to grow and get better because it's going to force us to get better as well Please select what you would like included for printing: Copy the text below and then paste that into your
