DOVER — Aidan Clarke never thought he'd open his own business. But after finding a love for fresh, nutritious bread while playing soccer in England, he found a new path in the culinary world. He plans to open Aldrnari Bakery at 8 Grove St
Raised in Rochester, the 24-year-old realized the U.S. doesn't have bread and baked goods without unhealthy ingredients, he said. When Clarke returned from England, he tried to play soccer, but the COVID-19 pandemic got in the way. So, with a newfound love of bread from his time in Leeds, England and Scandinavian countries including Norway and Finland, he pivoted and attended online culinary school at Escoffier.
he began baking fresh bread at home and launched his business in 2023
Deciding it was time for a physical location for the bakery
Clarke decided to start looking last February
Scandinavian-inspired sweetsEvery item on the menu
from fresh artisanal breads to Scandinavian-inspired cinnamon buns and croissants
The bakery will cater to all breads baked with natural yeast and slow fermentation to be digestion-friendly
similar to the easy-to-digest breads across the pond
He said bread and baked goods don't have to be bad for you or make you gain weight
He hopes to bring nutritious baked goods to Dover
I still want to take Europe with me; I want to bring good food to people," said Clarke
specialty sourdough loaves with olives or other additions
The bakery will not offer gluten-free products
It's about a two-day process to make bread
creating "deep tones of flavor," from the natural yeast
The bakery will open at the end of May or early June
the interior of the approximately 1,200-square-foot space is under construction
the shop will offer inside and outside seating
evidence of such with a garage door facing out onto the street
Clarke said he is going to preserve the garage door and open it up to the outside for an inside-outside seating concept
Upon walking into the bakery, a display case will be positioned to the left, and a coffee bar with seating will be available for patrons serving espresso and drip coffee, Clarke said. The bakery's name, Aldrnari, is inspired by Old Norse
a historic language of Scandinavian countries
Meaning "fire and light," the name symbolizes the process of breadmaking
Clarke said that his sister was the creative mind behind the name
Aldrnari Bakery will be open Wednesday through Sunday
Ample metered parking is located out front
"I never imagined [I'd be] doing this," Clarke said with a laugh
and he hopes to share it with the community

DOVER — To say Dover standout Daylen Clark is having a memorable senior season would be an understatement
a star running back-receiver-safefy on the Tornadoes’ football team
earned D3 All-Ohio honors for his play on the field
the three-year letter-winner in football and four-year numeral winner in track
broke the Dover school record in the 110-meter high hurdles
He burned a 14.14 while taking first place and also breaking the county record at the Legends meet at New Philadelphia’s Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium
“I definitely want to break the 300 record
From last year’s PR (in the 300 hurdles) I’m probably about .04 off (that record) right now.”

'It’s been a wild ride': Tusky Valley softball off to best start in school history
“We knew he was capable,” said Dover head track coach Tim Smith
“He (Clark) came in feeling good and strong
and we had a trio of hurdlers that were pushing each other
but Daylen picked up right where he left off
so we’re excited to see where that’s going to go.”
Clark talked of his progression as a hurdler during his prep career
Clark's key to being a great hurdler was working hard on his form
so it was a little harder for me to get over the hurdles at first
so I definitely had to work on my form a lot — a lot more than I thought I would,” he said
it’s probably one of the races where you’ll fall a lot actually
so you just need to get back up and run again.”

Smith is not surprised Clark has enjoyed a great football and track career at Dover
An important goal for me is having your seniors be good leaders and set an example of just how our track program runs,” Smith said
“He also has put a lot of work in during the offseason
he finished sixth in the state in the 60 hurdles indoor.”
Clark said participating in indoor meets helped prepare him to hit the ground running for the outdoor track season
“I’d definitely say running indoor (track) helped because I felt like I could flow into the (outdoor) season with my form and stuff like that,” he said
“I’d probably say (the highlight) was setting the record in the 4x1 relay last year,” Clark said
because we ran the shuttle hurdles last year at OVAC
and that was fun because we broke a few records there
Clark is also a key member of Dover’s 4x100 relay this year and is running in the event with brother Dante
Daylen Clark will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Wheeling Jesuit in the fall
He will retire the track spikes and concentrate on football
“I’ve just been impressed with him for four years,” said Smith of Clark
“Just to see the improvement and dedication
He was just telling me he’s excited to go to Wheeling to play one way
because he played two ways and on special teams (in high school)
The way he excels on the offensive side of the ball
so they might not be able to steal him for track over there
who reached the Division I regional finals in the 300 hurdles last season
would love to go out as a state track qualifier
Smith knows Clark is among the best hurdlers in the state
“He’s definitely got the ability,” Smith said
“He’ll be in the mix (of state meet hopefuls) along with a couple other kids
he was running the edge (of qualifying for state) in the 300 hurdles at regionals and now he’s running the 110’s so well
I think he’s got a shot in both at getting to state (at Ohio State in Columbus).”
rest assured he will do everything in his power to try to make Columbus a reality

DOVER – The Ohio Supreme court will not hear the city’s appeal in its dispute with the Dover Chemical Company
The two sides are at odds over $1.1 million in electric surcharges the city attempted to levy against the company between 2021 and 2023
Dover Chemical so far has received more favorable rulings from the lower courts
which ruled the company did not have to pay the surcharge and could sue the city for additional claims
but the court this week declined to accept jurisdiction over the case
The dispute will likely return to Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court where Judge Elizabeth Thomakos will consider Dover Chemical’s additional claims against the city
