Millions in federal aid funds issued by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) have been awarded to two DeKalb County transportation projects
The news comes approximately a week after DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson enacted an executive order to put a stop to some government spending due to lingering uncertainties about federal funds
According to a press release by county officials
approximately $4 million will be used to advance intersection improvement projects at North Druid Hills Road and Lavista Road as well as North Druid Hills Road and Clairmont Road
These projects were previously identified in the North Druid Hills Road Corridor Study funded jointly by DeKalb County and ARC
ARC conducted a solicitation for proposals for the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP),” the release states
“Federal funding from the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STBG) was slated to be awarded to projects that would further ARC’s regional goal of strategic investments and addressing transportation needs in the region.”
The two projects in DeKalb County were selected out of a pool of more than 100 applicants
Both projects include upgrades “aimed at reducing congestion and queuing; reducing the frequency and severity of crashes; and improving operations,” said officials
Data from a DeKalb County transportation plan states that North Druid Hills Road carries an estimated 29,000 to 39,000 cars per weekday
A timeline for the projects has not yet been released

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management emergency crews will require a lane closure on North Druid Hills Road
between Spring Creek Road and Willivee Drive to repair a leaking water main.
Residents and businesses may experience water service interruption for several hours while the line is being repaired overnight between 10:00 p.m
Engineers and construction crews will work diligently to minimize the length of impact to residents and business owners
Lane closure and detour signs have been placed in the area to advise motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions
