winning the Texas Relays with a time of 9:04.69 to set a personal best in the event
The SFA signee didn't break his record this time around at Mike A
but still managed to win the race in an unfamiliar style

I might have had the fastest time (coming in)

After placing third in the Region I-4A track meet behind French and Canyon's Avery Brown
Gross earned the "wild card" spot on the track
awarded to the fastest third place finisher in the state
"It just gave me my chance to prove that I just really put in my work," Gross said
"I think it gives me that chance to kind of say
I'm here.' I hope to come back for the rest of my high school career."
After finishing behind French and Brown all season
Gross stayed stride for stride with the two for the entire race
eventually sprinting to the finish line to beat out the rest of the competition
The talented distance runner didn't try any new race strategies in her upset win
instead saying that she ran with the same attitude and effort throughout the season
Gross caps off her freshman year with a Class 4A state title
setting the stage for what should be a special career for the Demonettes standout
AUSTIN – Emily Gross didn’t peek her head in the door and announce herself to the Texas High School State Track and Field meet world Thursday morning
The diminutive Dumas freshman kicked the door down with a noise you could hear all the way back to the Texas Panhandle
stunned the 3200-meter field winning the gold medal as the wild card entry – meaning she finished third at regionals – using an impressive 250-meter final sprint to blow by the competition at Mike A
Gross was unfazed by the pressures of running on the biggest stage Texas high school track offers finishing in 11:02.16 beating her previous best time by a whopping 14 seconds and winning over second place sophomore Brooke French of Randall by seven seconds
“Being the wildcard gave me my chance to prove that I knew I had put in the work and gave me my chance to say ‘Hey
“This was a very much a very big dream of mine
Standing at the top and everyone seeing you
I think it was great to strive for. And now I hope to continue on this path.”
Dumas girls track coach Justin Phiilips praised Gross for her fierceness and maturity and tipped his cap to Dumas long distance coach Huge Aguinaga for the work he put in with Gross and the strategy of bring home the historic gold to Dumas
that’s one of the craziest and most impressive things is Emily was the wildcard and won,” Phillips said
She’s mature for a freshman and is able to relax and run her race
Gross bided her time running behind leaders French and Canyon senior Avery Brown and along with Hamshire-Fannett senior Adison Richard as the four formed a pack the over the final 1600 meters
As the group found itself 250 meters from the finish line it was anybody’s race
Gross put the pedal to the metal finding energy the other three runners couldn’t answer bursting out in a sprint and owned the final 125 meters setting a new personal record time at 11:02.16
“We practice kicking at the end because that’s where you can catch a person,” Gross said
“You can stay with them the whole race but it’s always that last 100 where the people who don’t have the energy and don’t want it as bad will die out
You just have to let yourself go and ignore all the pain
tell your mind to be quiet and let your body take control.”
Phillips was smiling from the stands as he saw Gross finish in impressive style
“She has always had a great kick and do a really nice job of staying the leaders heels,” Phillips said
Randall’s French gutted out second placed over Richard by .12 one hundredths of a second (11:09
38 to 11:09.50) and Canyon’s Brown just missed out on the medal stand at 11:10.44
Region 1-4A champ French set the pace for much of the race leading at the end of six of the eight laps
That’s where she wanted to be out front and was classy praising Gross praise for the impressive finish
if not you just get stuck behind the pack and are running somebody else’s race,” French said
“So I wanted to go out there and lead the race … and the give it all you have at the end
I’m really not disappointed in my race. I knew in this race there would be a lot of tough athletes in this race … (Gross) did shock me that last 200 on the last lap
Gross said she didn’t get frustrated losing out on first at recent meets
only motivated her more and it was during the area meet the lights came on
“I think I kind of realized it around area it hit and gave me a little more confidence I could compete at this level and possibly win it,” Gross said
“That’s when it opened my eyes that this is where I am and this is a possibility.”
Gross said running all year against French and Brown has made her better even though she didn’t beat them both in the same race until the state meet
“Brooke and Avery are amazing runners,” Gross said of her district competitors from Randall and Canyon
“I love running with them and I love getting the chance to talk with them before and after races
It’s great to talk with them and hear what they experienced in their running careers.”
Gross continued her busy day in the evening running events finishing third in the 1600 helping District 4-4A to a clean sweep on the medal stand with Canyon’s Addyson Bristow earning gold and French securing her second silver of the day
In the 800-meter run she finished eighth

Texas (KVII) — A Dumas man has been sentenced to three years in prison for misusing funds from the Dumas Economic Development Corporation (EDC) for personal expenses

Running received a three-year sentence in prison and a $5,000 fine for each charge
Running was indicted for using the EDC's credit card for personal expenditures
and even an invoice to bury his deceased horse
One of the most significant unauthorized purchases was a family vacation to Disney World and the Bahamas
which included his daughter's boyfriend
This trip cost the EDC approximately $17,000 and had no business purpose
Running initially testified that he believed the credit card was his own
despite testimony from board members who had instructed him to cease using the card for personal expenses
Running was also indicted for writing checks to himself from the Cowboy Classic Rodeo Association
He admitted to embezzling approximately $46,000 from the association

Dumas is currently in custody and he’s being held on $558,500 bond
per online court records obtained by MMA Fighting

Two additional charges listed on Dumas’ arrest record include possession of drug equipment and possession of drugs/controlled substance without prescription
He was booked into jail on Wednesday and remains in custody at this time
Of course this is not Dumas’ first run in with law enforcement while he’s been under contract with the UFC. He was arrested on felony battery charges back in February 2024 but the charges were eventually dismissed
Online records show that Dumas has been arrested more than a dozen times in Escambia County

another defensive player who many believed would be drafted on Day 3 but went undrafted on Saturday
The combination of Stackhouse and Dumas-Johnson as undrafted free agent signings quickly makes the Packers' 8-player draft class feel a lot like a 10-player class
While Stackhouse could compete right away for a job as a backup nose tackle on the 53-man roster
236) will be a player to watch at off-ball linebacker this summer
A Georgia transfer who played with both Stackhouse and sixth-round pick Warren Brinson
Dumas-Johnson won two national titles and was a first-team All-American over three seasons in Athens before transferring to Kentucky for the 2024 season
Dumas-Johnson played behind Packers first-round pick Quay Walker at linebacker
Dumas-Johnson started all 15 games for Georgia and produced 70 tackles
4.0 sacks and a forced fumble -- earning him All-American honors
He suffered a forearm injury in 2023 and played in only nine games before departing via the transfer portal to Kentucky
where he played in 11 games and was the team leader in tackles while also producing 7.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2024
Dumas-Johnson created 52 pressures as a pass-rusher and 99 stops over four seasons
including 26 pressures and 40 stops during his dazzling 2022 season
Missed tackles have been a problem -- 34 total and a 15.5 percent miss rate
Dumas-Johnson didn't work out at the combine because of an injury but did run the 40-yard dash in 4.60 seconds
hit 37.5" in the vertical leap and cover 10-6 in the broad jump while doing 16 reps on the bench press at Kentucky's pro day
The Packers are in good shape at linebacker
especially after adding fifth-round pick Collin Oliver
who is expected to be a duo edge rusher and off-ball linebacker
experience and athleticism to fight for a roster spot at a deep position
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com thought Dumas-Johnson had a chance to be a sixth-round pick
Zierlein's scouting report: "Inside linebacker with decent career production but a disappointing lack of consistency on his 2024 tape
The Georgia transfer frequently looked listless at Kentucky
He was inefficient in his read-and-react and encountered too many squared blocks
He flashes know-how and an ability to track near the line of scrimmage
Dumas-Johnson lacks speed and explosiveness to range from sideline to sideline
so he might need to become a special-teams standout to stick on a squad as a potential Day 3 pick."
Dane Brugler's scouting report: "With his quick trigger downhill
Dumas-Johnson sees the field well as a run defender and comes to balance on the move to avoid blockers or make stops
he doesn't have the explosiveness to be a true sideline-to-sideline chaser and will be targeted in man coverage by dynamic backs and tight ends
Dumas-Johnson is sound in his run fits and competes with a confident
but he will need to prove he won't be a liability in coverage to see significant defensive snaps
He has the skill set of a potential role player and special-teamer."

Jamon Dumas-Johnson spent his final year of college football at Kentucky after three seasons at Georgia
Expectations were high for the former All-American in 2024 who earned two national championship rings
The productive off-ball linebacker surprisingly started his professional career as a free agent
The former blue-chip recruit went undrafted this weekend after receiving some sixth and seventh-round grades in the pre-draft process. That ultimately led to an NFC North franchise quickly reaching out and getting a deal done. Early reports say that the Kentucky linebacker will sign with the Green Bay Packers.
Kentucky LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson to sign with the Packers.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson is entering a situation with Green Bay where starting linebackers Edgerrin Cooper and Quay Walker each return. So do both backups from last season. Dumas-Johnson was college teammates with Walker at Georgia in 2021. However, there is a depth need after that.
Dumas-Johnson finished his collegiate career with 192 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks in 49 career games. Expect the Kentucky linebacker to compete for a roster spot and ultimately have a great chance to stay with the Packers throughout the 2025 season on the practice squad.

After winning a National Championship and becoming an All-American during his sophomore season, Jamon Dumas-Johnson had the makings of someone who could become a top linebacker prospect and a complete player in the NFL. However, he's regressed since then due to injuries and putting on some bad weight.
That showed up most in his coverage skills as his transitions and ability to close
taking longer to get in and out of his breaks
the former Wildcat and Bulldog has decent instincts to get to the right spot and has shown the ability to slip blocks from offensive linemen with his quickness
linemen who are more athletic and under control when working up to the second level can swallow him up since he doesn't use his hands when taking on blocks
Dumas-Johnson is worth taking a flier on during Day 3 of the draft to see if he can return to the 2022 form
he can be a solid backup at MIKE or SAM linebacker in the NFL
constant communicator and points out motions to help get everyone on the same page
— Solid instincts as a run defender to read his keys and get to the right spot
— Physical when taking on blocks from tight ends
and he has some quickness to occasionally slip blocks from offensive linemen climbing to the second level
he reads the quarterback's eyes well to anticipate throws and tighten windows or help teammates in coverage
— Effective as the pick player on stunts when blitzing
he sells vertical and is aggressive to catch offensive linemen off guard and get pressure
— Sub-par athlete overall who will get beat by running backs and tight ends in man coverage
— Lacks change of direction skills to quickly transition in coverage
— Struggles to locate threats coming into his area in zone coverage due to bad eye discipline
— Doesn't break down well when tackling in space
— Takes on blocks with his shoulder against offensive linemen and doesn't have enough strength to win at the point of attack
he'll be both too shallow and too deep

Birmingham vintage clothing guru Susan Dumas is a vintage "matchmaker," helping hand-selected pieces find their destined owners
Susan dishes on her passion for vintage and making women feel fabulous — and her fun connection to "The White Lotus!"

We chatted with Susan about the magic of vintage clothing
her wildly popular clothing sales (which she hosts in her home)
and how to make vintage work for modern women
Get to know this month’s FACE of Birmingham
I’m originally from Selma, and it was the greatest place to grow up. I started wearing vintage clothes in high school that I would find in my mom’s closet
She was a pseudo-hippie with these awesome wide leather hand-tooled belts and huge topaz rings
I continued hunting for vintage clothes by digging through the drama closet at Camp Mac in the summers and then the rush closet in college
I moved to San Francisco and found real vintage shops
I found — and still have — this orange trench coat with a faux fur collar that makes me feel like dancing
I have always loved being a little different
got me started in the vintage clothes business
He stopped by one day and told me I should try to sell some of my clothes “because you don’t do anything and you have a real interesting style.” It was intended as a compliment … I think
When you buy vintage clothes on the internet
and the clothes started selling — especially to people from Birmingham
“I should have a show when school starts.” I called Janie and asked if she would sit with me because I was certain no one would come
we’ll start drinking.” But people came
so you have to be confident in what you like
Dip your toe in the water and see what makes you feel special
Nothing is more magical than someone walking out of the dressing room in something they feel fabulous in
Some have small moth holes or faint stains
Throw everything you think about sizing out the window
I am a size six and one of my favorite dresses says it is a 22
You have to try on vintage clothes because there are just so many variables
the arm holes might be small even though the dress fits
That’s why it is so magical when you try something on that seems like it was made for you
That’s the craziest thing that has ever happened to me! My friend went to a wedding where she wore a lot of my clothes. Her cousin apparently liked them and told her sister-in-law about them. Her sister-in-law, Alex Brouse, happened to be the costume designer for The White Lotus. I guess she followed my Instagram, where I post my pieces that will be in upcoming shows
I came home from a big night out to an email from Alex saying she’d like me to help costume the upcoming White Lotus season
I mentioned it to my friend Caroline the next day
so she Googled Alex and let me know she had been nominated for three Emmys
Come to my house by yourself or with your whole crew and head downstairs to the basement
where thousands of pieces of vintage clothing
and there’s no shopping in between shows
When you are around women trying on clothes
you realize that every single woman has insecurities about their body
I am inspired by women being able to share those secret
negative thoughts out loud because when you shed light on negativity
I am always inspired by authenticity and being humble when you don’t have to be
Most especially, I am inspired by the ladies of the Lovelady Center who fight so hard from the depths to find peace and purpose in life
They are so full of love for each other and people like me coming into their space
Captain (who has eaten nine pairs of my shoes)
and The First 48 because I want to be a homicide detective in my next life
Last delicious local meal: Al Mojo de Ajo from Sol y Luna (dipping bread in the sauce is a religious experience)
Your go-to gift to give: Vintage clutches that are not big enough to fit your phone

A North Alabama realtor has been missing for months
This month - there's been a big turn in the case
Jr - a Huntsville area realtor and father of three went missing back in December
32-year-old Quintarius White is wanted for kidnapping and 27-year-old Kierra Clark is wanted for conspiracy to commit kidnapping
"This has taken a toll on our family," Shakeria Samples said
"We are trying to be as positive as we can be but the kids notice - they're very intelligent
To go from seeing and talking to someone every day to not seeing or talking to them for 109 days - it's heartbreaking."
Shakeria Samples is the mother of one of 37-year-old Ronald Dumas Jr.'s children
"Ronnie is the type of person who is reliable," She said
He is all about family and community."
Huntsville Police say evidence shows Dumas was abducted
A surveillance image captured Dumas going inside a liquor store with two women
The family says they have no idea who the women are or why Dumas was with them so far from home
Samples adds they have no friends or family in that area
"We hired a private investigator to try to put that timeline together to try to figure out who those women were because from the footage the family has seen and we also had friends look at it too
none of us recognize those women," Samples said
December 15th I did talk to him on the phone and when I talked to him on the phone I could hear people on his background - he was in a good mood so I just assumed he was getting ready to hang out with friends but what caused concern for the family was when we spoke to his roommate who said he didn't return home that night," Samples said
the case was upgraded to an active abduction
"Just because of the type of backgrounds these suspects have we believe they could be anywhere
With them having backgrounds of kidnapping and human trafficking - that's alarming to me."
"It's really difficult especially when you have an active - very super active parent," Samples said
"He's the type of dad who he could be in the middle of anything and he will drop everything if there's something going on with his kids."
The arrest of two suspects this month brings renewed hope
"We remain prayerful," Samples said
"I practice praying with my kids so that they put their worries with the Lord and we pray that the best will come of this situation."
"For Ronnie: if you're able to see this or hear this I want to let you know myself all your family and all your friends are 100% fighting for you," she said
"We are not going to stop fighting for you
Your kids are fine - we are loving on your babies
You'll be home soon and we have hope and faith in that."
Huntsville Police say they're working alongside the U.S
Marshal's Task Force to catch the three remaining suspects
Anyone who knows anything is asked to contact Huntsville Police Department or call 911
