winningest Texas high school boys basketball coaches of all-time
Duncanville's David Peavy is right up there with the best of 'em
may be taking his coaching talents out to the Sunshine State
According to a social post on X by NBC DFW 5, the news station posted that Peavy is set to leave Duncanville for an academy in Florida
Peavy has led the Panthers to two state championship victories during his time at Duncanville
Looks as though David Peavy will be leaving Duncanville and heading to an academy in Florida
Peavy is one of the most decorated and successful head coaches in Texas high school history and is looking for a new challenge
Some speculation is tying Peavy to possibly the soon-to-be-vacant Montverde Academy job
with Kevin Boyle having announced his departure from the program after this 2024-2025 season to take on the same position at SPIRE Academy in Ohio
Below is Peavy's bio on Duncanville's athletics website:
"Coach David Peavy joined the Duncanville ISD family in April 2018
coming from Dekaney High School in Spring ISD (Houston)
He brings more than 25 years of successful coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels
Coach Peavy has been named Coach of the Year four times and was twice named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State Committee
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and his Master of Education in Teaching from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio
He believes in developing leaders and promoting discipline on and off the court
He is committed to building a championship team of character
Coach Peavy has led the Panther to the State Championship game in 2019
and 2021 and has won two Championship titles."
but did have one campaign in which the successful head coach had to sit out
winning the UIL Class 6A state championship
Anthony Black (current Orlando Magic player)
costed Duncanville a state championship and Peavy was suspended for the entire 2022-2023 season
Peavy return to lead Duncanville to a 19-10 record in 2023-2024
Per a GM Sports Media report
it's not only Peavy that's leaving Duncanville
2027 4-star point guard Beckham Black would also be heading to Florida as well
Black has numerous offers from schools like Georgetown

yet we're already seeing high schoolers break elusive time barriers
On Saturday at the Texas A&M Bluebonnet Invitational in College Station
Duncanville High School (TX) senior Brayden Williams stormed to a 9.99 (+2.6) 100m effort in what was his outdoor season opener
who's committed to run next year for the University of Georgia
looking back at his competitors as he crossed the line for the win
It made for his first-ever sub-10.00 100m effort
joining a small club of names that have broken that barrier while competing for a U.S
Even though the performance was not wind legal
that's no reason to knock Williams' performance
Texas has certainly produced some top sprinters over the years
but Williams is in limited company with his sub-10-second clocking
Current adidas pro Matthew Boling is the only other Texas high schooler who has run under 10 seconds for the 100m in history
Boling did it back in April 2019 at the UIL 6A Region 3 Championships while at Houston Strake Jesuit
FAT mark recorded in Texas high school history
doing so at the 2019 UIL 6A Outdoor Championships
But the best part about going sub-10 in March
Williams now has plenty of meets ahead of him to potentially run a similar mark in calmer conditions
the wind was swirling a tad at College Station for the Bluebonnet Invitational -- but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take Williams' 9.99 seriously
Texas has certainly seen crazier wind readings -- take Boling's 9.98 (+4.2)
Put Williams' 9.99 performance in a wind correction calculator
and it equates to around 10.01 with an allowable 2.0 m/s figure
But even when you look at the limited list of sub-10 performances in American high school history
Issam Asinga and Christian Miller are the only U.S
high schoolers that went under 10 seconds for the 100m with legal wind
Miller clocked wind-legal sub-10-second marks on three occasions -- at the PURE Athletics Sprint Elite Meet (9.93)
New Balance Nationals Outdoor (9.95) and the U.S
Olympic Trials (9.98) during his senior year at Creekside High School (FL) in 2024
who later was banned by the Athletics Integrity Union for a positive drug test
ran a 9.89 wind-legal effort at the South American Athletics Championships in 2023
Only five have ever broken the barrier with wind over the allowable 2.0 m/s reading
What makes Williams' effort even more crazy certainly has to be the date he clocked it -- March 8
No other athlete has gone under 10 seconds in March
The fact that the Texas A&M Bluebonnet Invitational served as Williams' season opener makes it even more impressive
Perhaps the question now should be where can Williams go from here
The Duncanville star will compete through the UIL rounds that culminate with the UIL Outdoor Championships in May
giving him plenty of time to chase after more sub-10 marks before heading off to Athens

North Shore and Duncanville will face off against each other in the championship game
After three years in a row of this title matchup from 2021-23
the two teams looked primed to face off again
Both ranked in the top 10 of the Super 25 and were undefeated heading into the University Interscholastic League 6A D1 semifinals
It would take an upset for either to lose and a massive upset for both teams to fall
over the course of a few hours on Saturday
with back-to-back reigning champion Duncanville losing 36-34 to North Crowley and 2021 champion North Shore falling 35-10 to Westlake
a 25-point deficit that was its largest points discrepancy in a loss since Dec
this Texas high school football championship game will not feature the Duncanville Panthers and North Shore Mustangs
It's just the third time since 2017 that the title game has not run through these two programs
The most recent non-North Shore or Duncanville team to win the championship is Westlake
who took down the Mustangs in the 2020 semifinals and then defeated Southlake Carroll for the title — a good sign for the Chaparrals
With a 14-1 record and ranked No. 11 in the Super 25
Westlake is looking for its chance to once again end up on top of the Texas landscape
On the other side is undefeated North Crowley
3 in the national rankings after its win over Duncanville
the North Crowley Panthers are one win away from bringing glory to Fort Worth
With Duncanville and North Shore out of the picture
these two programs will fight for supremacy and the 2024 crown

Ja’Quinden Jackson’s legendary Duncanville career unofficially began with a dropped pass
It was the second round of the 2017 Texas high school football playoffs
and Duncanville trailed Euless Trinity 28-27
had split time at quarterback that year with senior Trazon Connley
The ball dropped right into his waiting arms
It should have been his “I’ve arrived” moment
consoled him as Trinity players celebrated
I’ll never lose another high school game,” Jackson promised
Jackson returns to AT&T Stadium for the East-West Shrine Bowl
a 23-year-old trying to punch his NFL ticket on the same stage where he first gained fame as a teenager
His performances at Jerry World turned Duncanville into the Texas high school football juggernaut it is today
But before the back-to-back state championships
“I was disappointed,” Jackson remembers
Jackson vowed to never feel like that again
He led Duncanville to a combined 28-1 record over the next two seasons
bringing the program its first state championship appearances under coach Reginald Samples
“Duncanville would’ve been Duncanville eventually because of Coach Samples,” Paul said
“But it wouldn’t have been Duncanville as quickly if it wasn’t for Ja’Quinden Jackson.”
Jackson left Duncanville as a four-star quarterback
but he now plays running back for the West team in the Shrine Bowl after switching positions in college to see the field faster
He always considered himself more of an athlete than a quarterback
He didn’t even play full-time quarterback until high school
Jackson didn’t want to play quarterback full-time at Duncanville
He asked Samples to let him play on both sides of the ball
but Samples insisted that the best athlete on the team would have the ball on every play
Jackson quickly learned that when Samples spoke
“He’s going to yell at you,” Jackson said
“He’s going to talk crazy to you
You can’t do anything but suck it up.”
Jackson had his breakout moment in the 2018 state semifinals when he led Duncanville to a 44-35 win over then-No
His 40-yard touchdown on a 4th-and-1 quarterback keeper with three minutes remaining sealed the win
While Samples had the foresight to move Jackson to full-time quarterback
he refused to take credit for Jackson’s success
“It wasn’t a lot of great coaching; we had a really good player,” Samples said
“It was just our job to get the ball to him in the right situations.”
like in the state championship the following week against North Shore
With Duncanville trailing 35-30 and just over a minute left in the fourth quarter
The penalty gave Duncanville a first-and-goal with 1:06 left
Offensive coordinator Eric Mims called a halfback run play
“Give me the – – ball!”
Duncanville drew up a play they hadn’t used all season
“Quarterback Box.” Jackson charged up the middle
thanks to Jackson’s refusal to back down
“He wanted the ball,” Samples said
And even though everyone knew he was going to get it
But the game is remembered for North Shore’s game-winning 55-yard Hail Mary
Quarterback Dematrius Davis threw a pass to A.J
Carter on the final play to hand Duncanville its only loss of Jackson’s high school career
Jackson was at the peak of his high school powers
named Unanimous District MVP and a member of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Super Team
He made another promise to Paul: not only would he never lose again
but he’d never let it be that close again
Paul challenged Jackson to run track and improve his speed
turning his 30-yard runs into 75-yard touchdowns
Jackson wasn’t fast enough to run varsity track
“This All-American quarterback humbled himself to say
‘Even though I played varsity football at the highest stage in America
I’ll run JV so I can still compete,’” Paul said
Duncanville’s GOAT JV 4x100 relay team
current Detroit Lions defensive back Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
But they trusted Paul that it would make them better football players
Duncanville dominated in Jackson’s senior year of 2019
winning 14 games by an average margin of 36.86 points
It was supposed to be the revenge tour—the year Jackson would lead Duncanville to its first state title
His career at Duncanville ended a game too early
and he watched the following week from the sidelines as Duncanville fell to North Shore again
watching his once-chiseled 6-3 frame drop from 220 pounds to below 200
This began a five-year college journey that took Jackson through three programs and a position switch
Jackson is a running back for Arkansas with 15 touchdowns
it was all about proving something to himself

Duncanville, the nation's No. 1 team, got a big game from Dakorien Moore, the nation's No. 1 receiver, to roll to a 42-20 win over No
11-ranked DeSoto at Eagle Stadium on Friday night
playing both wide receiver and defensive back
The Oregon pledge hauled in four touchdowns in the first half and finished with 9 catches for 241 yards
The win keeps a district crown in play for the Panthers in what is arguably the hardest district in the state — 6A District 11
Duncanville has now won 6 of the past 7 games in the series but is only 7-11 against DeSoto dating back to 2004
Duncanville only has a losing record against nine Texas schools over the last 20 seasons
Arlington Martin and Galena North Shore — all state championship teams
sometimes multiple — have winning records against the Panthers
The connection between Duncanville quarterback Keelon Russell and Moore ended up putting the game out of reach in the first half
The Alabama-bound Russell finished with 429 yards passing and 6 touchdown passes — including one in the final minute of the game to account for the final score
What made Russell number standout was how he got most of those yards — evading pressure and running enough to keep the play alive
whether it was Moore or Trenton Yancey or Ayson Theus or Zach Turner
The former SMU pledge now has 26 touchdowns and 0 interceptions
The 6 touchdowns in this game matched his career-high set two weeks ago against Waxahachie
His 72% completion rate in this win was close to his 75% season average
the Eagles made it interesting in the fourth quarter
Myson Johnson-Cook scored on a 49-yard run
DeSoto’s defense got a stop and the Eagles got the ball back with a chance to make it a one-possession game
Kelden Ryan connected on an 18-yard pass play to Dayton Singleton
which got the ball to the Duncanville 12-yard line
Momentum had seemed to shift in favor of the home crowd
A high snap went over the head of Ryan — a Virginia Tech pledge who is in his first year at the school after transferring from Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal — and he ran to get it
He picked it up and tried to throw it away
but he lost his grip and the ball bounced around on the turf again -- and backwards
He fell on it but it ended up being a 26-yard loss
DeSoto bounced back with a nice gain facing a second-and-forever but an illegal man downfield negated at a 15-yard gain
Ryan threw a pass that was picked off by Jaylyn Manning
The first three drives for DeSoto provided a foreshadowing of some issues the Eagles faced all night
An offside call by a tight end set up a 1st-and-15 situation on the opening drive and incomplete passes on second and third down led to a punt
A holding call on 3rd down turned what was a first-down run by Ryan into a 4th-and-11 and a punt on the second drive
Ryan ran for a 61-yard touchdown but it was called back to do an illegal block
4 featured another offensive penalty and a defensive facemask call on a run by Russell helped set up the Panthers’ second touchdown
penalties plagued the Eagles — similar to the loss to North Crowley
The Panthers also limited the production of the Eagles’ rushing game in the first half and because of that
DeSoto had to switch to passing a lot in the second half due to the deficit
was held in check with 39 yards in the first half
It was only his second game without gaining more than 100 yards
2-TD effort against Mesquite but in the 71-0 win he didn’t need to play much
The hype built around this game led to traffic jams on the two-way street that leads to Eagle Stadium in DeSoto
The struggle to find parking then led to struggles getting into the game
An IT issue at the gate meant the school district had problems scanning tickets — which had to be purchased online to gain entry
Fans on the Duncanville side were still waiting to enter the game late in the second quarter
The game was broadcast locally by WFAA-TV and more than 150 media requests came to athletic director/head football coach Claude Mathis at DeSoto

DeSoto will have things to clean up on and off the field

Unfortunately for Rockwall on this first-quarter play in the area-round playoff game this weekend

The UIL Texas State Football Championships have now reached the semifinals across all six classifications — and perhaps the game of the year in the Lone Star State is scheduled for this week
The Class 6A Division I bracket is down to four teams, two of which are in the top five of the national On3 Composite Rankings. They’ll square off on Saturday when Duncanville and North Crowley meet for a spot in the championship game
Both Panthers will enter the showdown undefeated
with Duncanville at 13-0 while North Crowley sits at 14-0
Duncanville is vying for its third consecutive state title
while North Crowley is looking to avenge its loss to Duncanville in last year’s semifinals
Duncanville has been considered the top team in the state all season and currently checks in at No
2 nationally in the On3 Composite Rankings
North Crowley has stayed near the top all fall

Duncanville possesses the nation’s top one-two punch in Alabama Five-Star Plus+ QB signee Keelon Russell and Oregon Five-Star Plus+ WR signee Dakorien Moore
Russell is the favorite to win the Gatorade National Player of the Year award
having thrown for over 3,600 yards and 52 touchdowns to just two interceptions
Moore has over 1,200 receiving yards and 18 TDs
Duncanville also carries an underrated defense
having not allowed more than two touchdowns in a game 10 times this year
North Crowley will look to challenge that this weekend
Colorado three-star WR signee Quentin Gibson has 81 receptions for 1,721 yards and 31 scores this fall. Crowley also boasts an elite offensive line, headlined by junior five-star tackle John Turntine III and Missouri three-star IOL signee Henry Fenuku
The offense has eclipsed 50-plus points in 10 games this season
The winner of Saturday’s clash will square off against the winner of North Shore versus Westlake

Coming into the game there was a big buzz surrounding Duncanville star receiver and Oregon commit Dakorien Moore and North Crowley star receiver and Colorado commit Quentin Gibson
As everyone wanted to see who is the best receiver in Texas and the nation
the answer is you can’t go wrong either way as both stars put on a show
When the dust settled Moore finished with seven catches for 138 yards and one of the top five best touchdown catch and runs I’ve ever seen a high school kid make in person
While Gibson hauled in five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns which included a 49-yard back breaking touchdown on fourth and three where Gibson double-moved the defensive back so bad he was able to dance into the end zone
Gibson’s touchdown was huge as it gave North Crowley a 28-21 lead late in the third quarter
in the spirit of Heisman winner Travis Hunter
both star wideouts played corner at times including guarding each other on a couple of occasions despite rarely if ever playing defense
After beating opponents by an average of 37 points per a game this season
including beating national powerhouse and defending Class 6A Division II state champion Desoto by six points earlier this season
many viewed North Crowley as major underdogs heading into their showdown with Duncanville
Now with a 36-34 instant classic victory over Duncanville on their resume
North Crowley just needs to knock off perennial state powerhouse Austin Westlake at AT&T Stadium next Saturday night for a date with history
A win will deliver North Crowley's first state title in football since 2003 and the program's first undefeated season
Its run will go down in the Texas history books as epic as North Crowley would have taken down three of the four teams who have been in the Top 5 of Texas polls with them all season
The Panthers will need another outstanding performance from their quarterback and University of North Texas commit Chris Jimerson Jr
who went 11-of-17 for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns while upsetting Duncanville
For the first time since 2020 neither Duncanville nor state and national powerhouse Galena Park North Shore will be playing in the Class 6A Division I state championship game
the Mustangs were upset by Austin Westlake 35-10 to end their quest to reach their fourth consecutive state championship game
If Duncanville and North Shore had both won Saturday
it would have been the first time in the history of UIL 11-man football that the same two teams squared off against each other in the state championship game four consecutive years no matter the classification
The win is good omen for Westlake as they are the team to win the state title the last both North Shore and Duncanville went to the house before championship Saturday
The Mustangs have nothing to hang their heads for as they were a game away from state
despite starting a lot of talented sophomores on defense
North Shore was still able to go undefeated in the regular season for the fifth season in a row and will be a candidate to be the best team in Texas and the nation next season
