Hudson Dunn has scholarship offers from several Big Ten schools, including Michigan, Oregon and Penn State.
The Gophers football program on Saturday night received a commitment from Hudson Dunn, a heavily recruited linebacker from Peoria, Ariz., who announced on the X social media platform that he will be part of Minnesota’s 2026 recruiting class.
Dunn received his offer from the Gophers on Jan. 24, made an unofficial visit to campus in April and is scheduled to make his official visit May 30. He also was scheduled to visit Oregon and Michigan in June.
Dunn has helped Liberty to back-to-back 12-1 seasons that ended with Arizona Open Division state championships. Last fall, he led his conference with 13½ sacks while also making 57 tackles and 24 tackles for loss. As a sophomore in 2023, Dunn had 15 sacks and 54 tackles. MaxPreps named Dunn to its second All-America junior team in 2024 and its second All-America sophomore team in 2023.
The addition of Dunn gives the Gophers 10 players who have committed to the 2026 recruiting class. As of Saturday night, the Gophers class ranked 25th nationally and eighth in the Big Ten in the 247Sports composite ratings.
Randy Johnson covers University of Minnesota football and college football for the Minnesota Star Tribune, along with Gophers hockey and the Wild.

With Austin Hays and his five home runs on the injured list
the Reds are missing that power bat in the middle of their lineup
It might be a good time to call up Rece Hinds

Blake Dunn is getting on base at a decent clip thanks to his 11.8% walk rate
he has struggled to hit in the big leagues
hitting just .170 with a .617 OPS and no power
The Reds need more outfield production and it's time to see if Hinds can continue his hot hitting and improved approach in the Major Leagues

David McDonald was teaching a class called Pop Culture and Politics in the Middle East
he was sitting in the Monroe County Jail.
McDonald was one of over 30 faculty and students arrested by the IU Police Department and Indiana State Police on April 25
the first day protesters set up tents in Dunn Meadow
He was charged with trespassing and banned from campus after standing between a police officer and a student
Both the trespass charge and ban were dismissed a few weeks after the arrest
The IU Divestment Coalition organized the Dunn Meadow encampment to protest the war in Gaza and call for IU to divest from Israel months after the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war.
Police arrested 23 more protesters on April 27
The encampment was dismantled by IU after 100 days on Aug
and a fence was placed around the space for 136 days during the construction
IU established an expressive activity policy in July
which prohibits expressive activity between 11 p.m
the installation of temporary structures without approval
blocking access to buildings and impeding vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The IUDC’s demands from the encampment, which ranged from divestment from Israel to the opening of Muslim and Middle Eastern cultural centers have not been met.
The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office did not file charges against 55 of the 57 protesters who were arrested
citing IU’s last-minute change to their unauthorized structure policy.
The IDS interviewed IU community members about their experiences during and since the encampment.
IU professor David McDonald is pictured up against a police officer as the line of officers moves closer to the line of protesters at the IU Divestment Coalition encampment April 25
McDonald was arrested and charged with trespassing and banned from campus — both charges would end up being dismissed
Bloomington and IU have seen increased antisemitism and hostility towards Jewish students
the executive director of the Jewish campus organization Hillel at IU
He was not working at IU during the encampment but said he was attuned to the campus climate leading up to his acceptance of the role last October.
he said Hillel’s student leaders interviewed him
and campus attitudes toward Jewish students were at the forefront of their conversations.
7 Hamas attack to include anti-Zionism incidents with other antisemitic incidents in its report.
A map from the ADL recorded 21 incidents of antisemitic harassment and vandalism in Bloomington in 2024
One reported that a synagogue in Bloomington was the target of a bomb threat in January
Others included swastikas spray-painted on a synagogue and Israeli flag
all of which were recorded after Hamas’s initial attack on Oct 7.
IU, along with at least 20 other universities, received a Title VI complaint a few months after Oct
from “conservative culture writer” Zachary Marschall
The complaint accused IU of failing to address antisemitism on its campus
the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights opened an investigation into IU.
The Department of Education sent letters to 60 universities, including IU
threatening federal funding if “they do not fulfill their obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish students on campus.” All universities that received letters had been under investigation for antisemitism.
According to Linkon, the encampment exacerbated the experiences Jewish students faced since Oct. 7, 2023. He said Jewish students expressed fear, isolation and a growing sense of vulnerability on the campus.
Partnerships between the Jewish community and other culture centers
student governments and community organizations on campus became impossible to continue
He said he thought they might have felt the campus climate was toxic and didn’t want to be a part of it
or that they turned their backs on the Jewish community.
He said IU’s campus should be a safe space for students to talk about the events in Israel and in Gaza
but that safe space didn’t exist.
it dates back thousands of years,” Linkon said
"It isn’t going away today or tomorrow.”
it was still critical to provide a campus climate where Jewish students can thrive and connect in positive ways.
Sophomore Mikayla Kaplan said she has been apprehensive to share her experiences as a Jewish student
though she said she hadn’t directly experienced antisemitism in the classroom
She has lived in Israel previously and is the president of Hoosiers for Israel
an organization with a goal to inform students about Israel.
“I’ve had students that I’ve heard are experiencing bias and antisemitism in classrooms
both from professors and from their fellow peers and students,” Kaplan said
“I don’t want to feel isolated in a class.”
she felt as though IU did not do a good job of handling it.
“It’s tricky because the administration needs to protect all students
Faculty who were arrested at the encampment have spent the past year grappling with how to move forward.
McDonald said he had attended many protests in the past and the university had never called in state police
McDonald said he stepped in between students and officers
“I was desperately trying to de-escalate the situation,” McDonald said
It’s just free speech in a free speech zone
Just let them speak their mind and they’ll all go home peacefully.”
McDonald said he was pushed further into the encampment with a baton four times
he was pushed on the ground and stayed there to catch his breath when a police officer turned him over and handcuffed him.
McDonald said he was in custody for about nine hours and issued a year-long ban from campus. However
he appealed the ban and was allowed back on campus around four weeks later
McDonald said he would stand on the street and watch the encampment without violating the trespass.
was also arrested on the first day of the encampment
That didn’t keep her from coming back to Dunn Meadow nearly every day.
The paper Dennis was handed after she was released from jail at midnight on April 26 said she was banned from campus from April 25
Dennis was back on campus the very next day for a rally outside Franklin Hall.
She described the encampment as a democratically engaged
They had their own graduation ceremony and library in Dunn Meadow
staff and community members read and sat and shared meals together
They drank tea on blankets in the evenings
Dennis served on the security team during the summer
watching over the camp in the late hours of the night so they could sleep.
She said she always tried to listen to the students and follow their lead as a faculty member
she said she stood in front of the students and the police like McDonald.
“I felt like the administration forced me to protect students from them because they had called these weapons to campus.”
She wore a Star of David around her neck and kept away from the encampment out of fear for her own safety.
She said protesters were yelling and screaming slogans and rhetoric that were difficult for Jewish students to hear
Many students had deep ties and connections to Israel
and the time during the encampment was isolating for IU’s Jewish community.
Kaplan said she thought that since the encampment
most Jewish students are just trying to move on
turn inward and focus on their communities
Their families and friends were still under the dangers of war
and people they know are still held hostage.
“There’s always a way to have a productive discussion,” she said
“Ask questions and be thoughtful and engage in intellectual discussion with others
The IU Divestment Coalition organized the encampment to protest the war in Gaza and call for IU to divest from Israel months after the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war
Dennis has worked at IU as a professor since 2001
but she decided in September to leave at the end of the school year due to concerns about the administrative response to protests.
“I felt like I could maybe stand up more or do more if I’m not worried about whether or not I would lose my job,” Dennis said
He said the encampment was a great opportunity to bring greater awareness of Palestine to campus
but he never expected it to escalate in the way it did.
“I never once thought the university would call in state police to physically and forcefully assault our students to shut down the encampment,” McDonald said
McDonald said the IU administration had failed in many ways in response to the encampment
He said at no point did he feel like the administration was willing to engage in conversation with the students
“We need to put free speech and academic freedom at the top of our values
otherwise we are no longer a university anymore.”
McDonald still feels the effects of the Dunn Meadow encampment
voicemails and messages from organizations that disagree with his viewpoints
including threats to him and his family.
McDonald said he would relive the events if it meant protecting students and their right to free speech on campus.
McDonald uses the encampment as a teaching opportunity in his classes
deeming it an important part of IU’s history
“We want to train engaged citizens who see an opportunity and a responsibility to speak out on issues of concern,” McDonald said. “So
I thought the encampment was an incredible moment in IU's history
and one that we should celebrate and discuss with future generations of IU students.”

In conjunction with the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives
Indigenous playwrights received cash awards
HILLSBORO, ORE.: Today, May 5, is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (#MMIW #MMIR). As part of national efforts led by National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center to bring attention to the crisis of violence facing Indigenous people, Native Theater Project (NTP) is amplifying theatre work that sheds light on it
The play is about a family pulling together to find a missing loved one when the authorities refuse to help
“I have loved this play from the moment I read it,” said AGE program director Andréa Morales in a statement
“DeLanna has the superpower of writing about incredibly difficult subject matter with both empathy and humor
She tackles MMIW with a story that is both relatable to the lived experience of Native people
It inspired me to look closely at the ramifications of MMIW and to raise consciousness in my own community and beyond
Being able to partner with NTP on this project will allow me to do so
Jurisdictional issues create law enforcement loopholes that do not hold accountable non-Native perpetrators of violence against Native people
Native Theater Project recognized a range of Native voices speaking on these issues
“One of the things I love about this group is that it’s multi-generational, celebrating longtime genius writers like Marci Rendon and Carolyn Dunn, and also reflects the promising young voices writing today,” Native Theater Project creative director Jeanette Harrison said in a statement
almost two-thirds of them choose to write about MMIR
This topic is so front of mind for our youth
She was named by Oprah in her 2020 List of Native American authors to read
Isabella Madrigal was recognized for Menil and Her Heart, which she first wrote when she was 16 and for which she received Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program (YIPAP)’s Young Native Playwright Award in 2020
Madrigal is an enrolled member of the Cahuilla Band of Indians and is of Turtle Mountain Ojibwe descent
her artistry is invested in the ways Indigenous cultural knowledge systems
and oral tradition practices are crucial to the health and well-being of Indigenous people
In addition to these writers, Harrison curated a list of 15 recommended plays that address #MMIR on the New Play Exchange
“is that other theatres across the country will also develop and produce these plays
A resident program of Bag&Baggage, Native Theater Project (NTP) develops and collaboratively produces plays by Native playwrights
and other theaters to offer career development
Bag&Baggage Productions (B&B) is a social impact theatre company that employs artistic expression to elicit cultural connections and to unify the community through meaningful engagement and transformative learning opportunities.

Acting Chairman Hill Provides an Update on Key Policy Issues. On April 8, 2025, Acting Chairman Hill highlighted key policy issues in focus by the FDIC
including encouraging de novo bank formation
revamping the FDIC’s approach to digital assets and blockchain-related activities
resolution planning and the failed bank resolution process
and reevaluating quantitative asset thresholds in FDIC regulations
Acting Chairman Hill described the de novo rate as having “fallen off a cliff.” He noted that the FDIC is considering whether there are scenarios that could warrant adjusted standards
including with respect to up-front and ongoing capital expectations for noncomplex
or adjustments to deposit insurance applications for innovative business models
He also noted that the FDIC is actively working on a request for information to ask “a comprehensive set of questions addressing issues related to ILC [industrial loan company] applications.”
He also referenced “just a few” of the issues that the FDIC is considering with respect its approach to digital assets and blockchain-related activities
noting that the FDIC expects to issue additional guidance on particular crypto-related activities and raised the prospect of whether the agency “should [] more comprehensively identify which crypto-related activities are permissible.” He highlighted the use of public
permissionless blockchains by banks as an area where additional guidance could be forthcoming
particularly in light of the withdrawal by the FDIC from the aforementioned interagency letters (see above)
On reevaluating rules’ quantitative asset thresholds
he noted the agency has been “inventorying and analyzing the dozens of numerical thresholds used by the FDIC” and “considering different options for indexing and the impact those options would have.” He called out two specific thresholds in his remarks – $100 billion and $10 billion
noting in particular that “while some uses of the $10 billion threshold are statutory
the changes “deemphasize and broaden the ‘strategy’ discussion and waive the expectation that banks identify and build their plans around a hypothetical failure scenario,” to better focus instead on providing the FDIC the information it would need to rapidly sell a bank and
operate the institution for a short period of time
The OCC Restructures Supervision and Other Functions. On April 16, the OCC announced that effective June 2
the agency will: (1) combine the Midsize and Community Bank Supervision and Large Bank Supervision functions within a Bank Supervision and Enforcement Division; (2) reinstate the Chief National Bank Examiner office and both the Bank of Supervision Policy and Supervision Risk and Analysis divisions therein; and (3) elevate the Information Technology and Security function
Federal Reserve Requests Comments on Proposal Regarding Stress Capital Buffer Requirements. On April 17, 2025, the Fed issued a proposal for comment aimed at reducing the volatility of capital requirements stemming from stress testing. The proposal is consistent with its December 23, 2024 announcement and the December 24
2024 suit challenging the legality of the current the stress testing framework
the Federal Reserve also previewed that later this year
it will propose additional changes to improve the transparency of the stress test
including disclosing and seeking public comment on the models that determine the hypothetical losses and revenue of banks under stress and ensuring that the public can comment on the hypothetical scenarios used for the annual stress test before the scenarios are finalize—also consistent with the December 2024 announcement and suit
Federal Reserve Board Publishes Financial Stability Report. On April 25, 2025, the Federal Reserve published its semi-annual Financial Stability Report
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s industry survey
there was a meaningful increase relative to its fall 2024 survey in the percentage of respondents citing risks emanating from changes to global trade policy as their top risk to financial stability
with moderate increases in the percentage of respondents citing policy uncertainty
corrections in asset markets and Treasury market functioning as top risks to financial stability
with a moderate decline in the percentage of respondents citing U.S
fiscal debt sustainability as a top risk to financial stability—though it did remain at 50%
Acting Comptroller Hood Address Areas of Strategic Focus. On April 16, 2025, Acting Comptroller Hood gave remarks before the Exchequer Club in which he expanded on his four key areas of strategic focus for the OCC: (1) reducing regulatory burden (“regulations must be effective
not excessive”); (2) promoting financial inclusion (“financial inclusion is the civil rights issue of our time”); (3) embracing bank-fintech partnerships (“innovation is not optional—it is essential”); and (4) expanding responsible bank activities involving digital assets (“Interpretive Letter 1183 confirms that national banks may engage in certain digital asset activities
provided they do so safely and soundly and under appropriate risk management standards”)
Speech by Governor Barr on AI, Fintechs and Banks. On April 4, 2025, Federal Reserve Board Governor Barr gave a speech titled “AI
Governor Barr discussed innovation in the context of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in banking and how bank–fintech partnerships may accelerate the integration of the technology and banking
He advised that bank risk managers and regulators should monitor developments outside the bank perimeter so that they are not caught off guard as this technology quickly enters the banking system
the importance of an appropriate incentive structure
and the unique role of fintechs in “laying the groundwork for good risk management of Gen AI.”
Speech by Governor Barr on AI and Cybersecurity. On April 17, 2025, Federal Reserve Board Governor Barr gave a speech titled “Deepfakes and the AI Arms Race in Bank Cybersecurity.” In his speech
Governor Barr addressed how generative AI has the potential to enable deepfake technology and “supercharge identity fraud.” Governor Barr emphasized the role of “strong
resilient financial institutions in preventing attacks” and advocated for bank controls to evolve in kind with AI-powered advances by
voice analysis and behavioral biometrics to detect potential deepfakes
He also advocated for updated guidance and regulation
use of AI technologies by banking regulators
increasing the penalties for cybercrime and targeting upstream organizations
Speech by Acting Comptroller Hood on AI in Financial Services. On April 29, 2025, Acting Comptroller Hood gave a pre-recorded speech titled “AI in Financial Services.” In his remarks
referencing both the “tremendous potential” as a risk management and business operations tool and the risks accompanying reliance on complex technology
regulatory oversight” and directed banks to consider the risk-based and technology-neutral principles in existing OCC and interagency guidance

USC Women’s Basketball Welcomes Kara Dunn As Transfer Addition For 2025-26 April 25, 2025 | Women's Basketball
Guard was Georgia Tech’s top scorer and an all-conference first-teamer last season.
regardless of his role as a tower in LA's potent and perfect defense
Well before the LA Clippers had a seven-game face-off with the Denver Nuggets, the easiest, most foreshadowing sequence of the postseason was with Kris Dunn
In the regular season, the veteran guard averaged 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, shooting 43.9% from the field and 33.5% from three. His steals count was also first on the Clippers and third in the NBA
the statistics to focus on with Dunn in the postseason are his scoring averages and efficiencies
Fans knew the caliber of a defender the Clippers received when they landed him from Salt Lake City
but his offense has always been why he has bounced around the league
failure and the liability narrative are inevitable when you do not have a consistent way to shoot and score
Dunn’s regular season three-point clip of 33.5% made it obvious what was bound to happen
Throughout his seven postseason contests against the Nuggets
Dunn went from being a starter to benched for Nicolas Batum in game six
He got a chance at redemption in game seven and instantly sold it one minute after checking in
Through all seven games against the Denver Nuggets, Kris Dunn shot 10-for-28 from beyond the arc. This is below 36%, which is underwhelming for a guard who was started most of the games by head coach Tyronn Lue
He is usually within the vicinity of Ivica Zubac
where he has the freedom to throw an alley-oop or attempt a floater with the big man as a decoy
Dunn drained a three but was still a negative factor on offense
He received a quarterback-esque pass from James Harden
he pump-faked one defender and blew an uncontested lay-up
and Dunn did not learn from his mistake and missed another lay-up
and better than trying to be a hero and score
the former first-round pick should have made an easy pass to Nicolas Batum for a corner three
Lue was right all along about benching Dunn
and his first missed lay-up in game seven proved that no mistake was made

Shelburne notes that they made all six shots they attempted off Batum’s passes in the second half
After the game, Lue gave recognition to Dunn and Ben Simmons

“I had a great visit up there,” Dunn told On3. “I like how coach Fleck and his staff do things at Minnesota. Their defense is good, they have good energy and I had a great time up there. I have a great relationship with coach Sori-Marin too.”
Dunn’s had multiple connections to Michigan. His mom, uncle and cousin went to school in Ann Arbor. He felt best about Minnesota.
“They recruited me so hard. I like the culture a lot. I like how they run things, their message to me and how physical they are. Minnesota has great competition and I can go in there and be a versatile player in their defense.”

Schools like California and Kansas State were in play too. Why now? Why did Dunn make his decision?
“I take notes on the different schools, so I always looked over those, prayed about and tried to find the best place for me,” Dunn said. “With the different schools, I am looked at all the information I had to get the best picture of where would be the best fit. It came down to the feeling.”
“All three of those schools are up there right now,” Dunn told On3. “I have great visits to all three schools this spring, I like a lot about each one and it is really close between those schools.”
Dunn is set to visit Minnesota officially on May 30.

After Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan confirmed her relationship with Jake Dunn
she and the actor made their red carpet debut at the BAFTA Television and Television Craft Nominees' Party in London
Indeed, two months after the Bridgerton star confirmed her relationship with the Renegade Nell actor on social media
the couple made their first red carpet appearance together April 24
Nicola was the diamond of the season as she arrived at the BAFTA Television and Television Craft Nominees' Party in a black Carolina Herrera mini dress featuring a large tulle bow cascading down the back
Jake complemented her look in an all-black ensemble with the collar of his white button-up shirt peeking out from the sweater
The couple's latest appearance comes after the Derry Girls alum celebrated Jake's 25th birthday on her Instagram Story in February with a sweet tribute
Alongside a snap of her love's side profile
But their romance has been the talk of the ton for some time after they were seen promenading through the streets of London in October after a night out
the 38-year-old was spotted cozying up with Jake during Mitski's performance at the All Points East festival
the Big Mood actress put those rumors to rest
"A lot of people really want me to marry Luke," she explained to TIME in October
We have such a love for one another and this experience that I'll never have with someone else again
Isn't it gorgeous that a man and woman can have that sort of relationship with one another?"
Although Nicola and Luke are only friends, the former revealed that it was their offscreen dynamic that helped them navigate their sex scenes
"You'd think filming a scene like that with someone who's a friend," Luke told E
"who has been your friend for like four years
but actually it was a reassuring one."
"It felt like a real safe space to explore these scenes and find new and interesting ways," he added
"The show is known for the steamy scenes
so we wanted to really encapsulate the Colin and Pen love story
and all these different genres their relationship showcases."
Keep reading for a closer look at the love lives of Bridgerton stars
While Nicola's Penelope Featherington found love with Luke Newton's Colin Bridgerton on season three
Nicola herself has sparked romance rumors with Renegade Nell alum Jake Dunn
Lord Debling and Prudence Dankworth (née Featherington) may not factor into each other's love lives on the show
but the actors have made a real-life match
And it appears that Carter's mum Imelda Staunton approves
Daphne Bridgerton swapped vows with Regé-Jean Page's Simon Basset
and now the Bridgerton alum plans to take her own stroll down the aisle
Dynevor flashed her engagement ring from producer Cameron Fuller at the 2024 Met Gala
Page having left the show after season one
keeps his personal cards close to his vest off-camera
but has looked awfully happy in copywriter Emily Brown's company since 2021
the English actor prefers to stay mum on romantic affairs
But he told The Standard in December 2023 that he was in a not-secret-but-private relationship with a "lovely man."
completely critical," the Fellow Travelers star said
"I don't know if I would be able to be as confident to speak out on other things if I felt that my whole life was up for grabs."
The Sex Education star, who fit the Vicountess bill for Anthony upon arrival from India, confirmed she was in a relationship with Tino Klein with a March 2023 Instagram post. But in February 2025, the actress shared she had entered her "single era" in an interview on BBC’s Woman Hour podcast
revealing the split occured one month prior
Benedict Bridgerton seemingly just wants to be free to do his thing
Though maybe he's developing some feelings..
who's not one to share what he's up in real life
was totally onboard with his character's journey
"It's lovely to explore," he told Deadline ahead of the season three finale
"but also putting down some roots and choosing something or someone also has huge value and excitement."
Newton dated actress Jade Louise Davies—her sister Amber Davies won Love Island U.K
in 2017 with then-boyfriend Kem Cetinay—for several years
But he was snapped following Bridgerton's June 2024 midseason premiere in London hand-in-hand with dancer Antonia Roumelioti
most fans are just disappointed that Colin Bridgerton and Penelope aren't together in real life
"We think it’s really sweet," Coughlan told Extra of the off-camera shipping that goes on for them
"I think because we truly love each other."
The actress who plays Kate's sparkling sister Edwina Sharma may be single at the moment
but she sent hearts soaring with the release of her 2024 rom-com How to Date Billy Walsh
costarring her longtime friend Sebastian Croft
It turns out the actress destined to play Eloise Bridgerton ended up falling for the non-actor she auditioned with
"I got a job and a fella on the same day," Jessie told The Guardian in April 2024
WEST BATON ROUGE — As American Idol contestant John Foster took the national stage Sunday night
singing the soul-stirring original song “Tell That Angel I Love Her” in memory of his best friend Maggie Dunn
But no one felt the moment more deeply than Maggie’s mother
who traveled to witness the performance live — a bittersweet blend of grief
Watch John Foster’s Performance ‘Tell That Angel That I Love Her”
Maggie,’ when I was there live,” Martin recalled in an emotional interview with UWK
Maggie’ until I was at home because of all the clapping and whatnot
But it just meant a lot to hear him say that.”
His original ballad was written on the day Maggie Dunn and her friend Caroline Gill were killed in a tragic car crash on New Year’s Eve 2022
yet the most horrific thing I’ve ever created.”
Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, both students at Brusly High School, were killed in December when a police officer pursuing a suspect in a high-speed chase crashed into their vehicle. Maggie’s brother, Liam Dunn
was also in the car and suffered severe injuries
In the wake of unimaginable loss, Maggie’s father, Randall Dunn, has launched the Margaret “Maggie” Edline Dunn (MED) Foundation in honor of his daughter
The foundation aims to carry on Maggie’s spirit and create positive change in the community
MORE FROM UWK: Father launches foundation to honor Maggie Dunn’s life
watching from the audience alongside Foster’s family and friends
“It was all snot and ugly tears watching him sing,” she said with a soft laugh through tears
a little sign that I think they showed on TV
was holding the Caroline and Maggie sign that you could clearly see in the video
And that was just kind of another special moment to show their names.”
The performance didn’t just move hearts — it moved people to action
Since John sang her daughter’s name on national television
Maggie Dunn’s story has been searched numerous times
“Hopefully that maybe somebody with the power to enact change will hear it and step forward,” she said
“We’ve been a little frustrated at the state level with nothing happening
So perhaps people within their own communities
and maybe they’ll see that this frustration is not just singular events
Maybe people will eventually realize the need to do something about what’s really a systemic problem.”
Martin also shared what made John’s friendship with Maggie and Caroline so special — a bond of sincerity and mutual encouragement
“That’s what made their friend group so special
it wasn’t the typical friendship,” she explained
They were just genuine friends who built each other up
It was the same way between them and John Foster
known for his gentle and respectful manner
but I’ve seen him literally just come out of that shell
He walks on the stage just waving and smiling
everybody is ‘Mr.’ and ‘Miss,’ which in some cases
“It’s a very funny story about the first time he met Jelly Roll
‘Please don’t ever say that again’.”
Martin believes Maggie saw something special in John long before the rest of the world did
“He carries around a letter that she wrote for him
It was an assignment for a junior English class
she talks about how he has to keep pushing with this because he has talent.”
And she had one more message for the fans — and for John
and it’s one thing to comment how beautiful a song was
John Foster competes again this Sunday night on American Idol on ABC as he aims for a spot in the Top 10
It’s a living tribute to a friendship that endures
and a daughter whose light still shines.
