Now OU baseball can get a little greedy. And head coach Skip Johnson can thank Easton Carmichael a lot for that.
Carmichael came through early and often for OU on its way to a 5-3 victory against visiting Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Ballpark.
Carmichael hit a pair of home runs to lead the way offensively. He brought in a pair with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first.
Then with OU leading 3-1, added a solo shot in the fifth inning.
A strong outing from Cade Crossland against the high-powered Rebels offense. He threw six innings before being relieved after not getting the first batter out in the seventh.
Crossland allowed five hits, two runs with just one walk and eight strikeouts in 100 pitches. This was a day where Jamie Hitt did not have it out of the bullpen, but Jason Bodin did.

Used for the second day in a row, Bodin got out of a jam in the seventh as Ole Miss cut the margin down to 5-3.
He threw 1.2 innings, didn’t give up a hit and walked one with two strikeouts.
Then, of course, it was time for Dylan Crooks. After getting the first two out, Crooks ran into trouble in the ninth inning. He allowed a single with a full count, and then a double to put the tying runs in scoring position. But he closed the door with a strikeout to earn his 12th save of the season.
Carmichael had four hits, while Trey Gambill added two. The Sooners had 10 for the game. OU left 10 runners on base but got away with it. OU is now 19-7 at home this season.
Break out the brooms? Fighting for a top-16 berth, OU (32-13 overall, 13-10 SEC) has a golden chance Sunday to sweep the Rebels. The final game of the three-game set is 2 p.m.

during a Friday evening filled with bizarre plays
The Stateliners defeated Easton 9-6 in a memorable showdown at Coca-Cola Park in front of about 1,700 spectators
We’re here to prove ourselves every game,” said Handwerk
“Coach (Mike Ciavarella) works us hard in practice
I wouldn’t want any other team to show up to a ballpark with.”
Handwerk put the Stateliners ahead for good in the bottom of the third inning
two runners in scoring position and the contest tied 1-1
don’t let them take me out of my game,” the senior said of his mentality
“The coaches are working with me every day on contact through the middle
Handwerk smashed an extra-base hit to the warning track in center field
Easton botched the relay back into the infield and Handwerk charged home
“He’s at his best when he’s hitting it up the middle
He hit the ball probably about 390 (feet),” Ciavarella said of Handwerk
Phillipsburg’s Brady Handwerk (6) connects for a three-run triple against Easton at Coca-Cola Park on Friday.Saed Hindash | For lehighvalleylive.com
Phillipsburg (7-7) was in a position to take the lead because it defused an early Easton threat with a triple play in the top of the first inning
The Red Rovers (10-8) opened the game with three straight hits
Juniors Khamryn Singto and Cole Ordway both singled and their classmate
followed with an RBI double for a 1-0 lead
cleanup hitter Nolan Fuller sent a line drive that Phillipsburg shortstop Amman Bokhari caught while moving to his left
Bokhari made a diving tag of second base to double off Crossman
The shortstop then sprung to his feet and threw the ball home as Ordway broke to the plate
Stateliners catcher Brent Ott applied the tag to complete the triple play
“(Bokhari’s) been dealing with an arm issue all week
He put a sling on and just gutted it out,” Ciavarella said
“He made a hell of a play on that ball to not only catch it
but make a tag at second and have the wherewithal to get up from a dive and make a perfect throw home while dealing with the arm issue
but when it falls in your [favor] it’s pretty awesome.”
The defensive gem tilted momentum squarely behind the Stateliners
“It’s huge,” Easton coach Carm LaDuca said of the triple play
“It’s probably a double play no matter what
stand up and make a good throw to plate – and he did
You have to give the other team credit for that.”
Phillipsburg catcher Brent Ott forces out Easton’s Cole Ordway (2) at home to complete the triple play at Coca-Cola Park on Friday.Saed Hindash | For lehighvalleylive.com
stole second base and scored on an RBI hit by Pasmore to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first
Easton trimmed the deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth
which started with a blast to deep center field by junior Chase Shollenberger for a triple
Red Rovers junior Max Martenis walked and his courtesy runner
scored on a base knock to left field by senior Brogan Pagotto
Phillipsburg answered with another crooked number in the bottom of the fourth
scored on another delivery to left field by Pasmore
Handwerk stepped into the box with the bases loaded
The senior slapped a single past a diving third baseman to bring two more runs across and give P’burg an 8-3 advantage
Stateliners junior Nick Yaccarino then walked to load the bases again
That’s when another strange chapter was added to Friday’s story
Bokhari hit a grounder that was fielded by the third baseman
which got past the catcher and allowed two more P’burg runners to cross home plate
Easton was upset about the apparent obstruction
The umpires conferenced and ultimately ruled that Bokhari’s hit was foul
a lineout/rundown combination ended the inning
so nothing is ever going to go the way it’s scripted
we were the team that we’re capable of being
Fuller and Shollenberger registered sacrifice flies in the top of the fifth to slice the Stateliners’ advantage to 8-5
Yaccarino executed a run-scoring squeeze bunt to give P’burg more breathing room
“We had really good at-bats; we played some small ball
“We put everything together tonight against a very good team
the Stateliners registered the first two outs of the seventh by irregular means
Crossman followed with a groundball and P’burg tried to get the force at second
Ordway was initially ruled safe on a bang-bang play but came off the bag and was tagged out
After a walk to Fuller and an RBI single by Shollenberger
Fuller was ruled out after being struck by a ball off the bat of Rowan Galiotto
A conventional groundout to shortstop ended the contest and started the celebration for P’burg, which beat Easton for the first time since 2016 last season
“You have to play all three phases of the game
we weren’t clean enough in all the phases to win the game,” said LaDuca
even though our kids fought their behinds off to get back in the baseball game
A couple of things go our way here or there
Phillipsburg players rush over to the student section to celebrate their win over Easton at Coca-Cola Park on Friday.Saed Hindash | For lehighvalleylive.com
Yaccarino started on the mound for the ‘Liners
tossing 6-plus innings while navigating through eight hits and four walks
“We played very clean on defense,” Ciavarella said
Wayne moved to the mound from third base to get the final three outs
has pitched more innings this week (6.1) than the rest of his varsity career combined
The ‘Liners are 2-0 since their Delaware River Rivalry matchup moved to Coca-Cola Park and transformed into a high school baseball atmosphere unlike any other in the Lehigh Valley
It’s not just the record so far but the environment,” Ciavarella said about playing at the home of the IronPigs
“Hats off to the coaching staff and administration over there (at Easton)
because they do a lot of the groundwork for it
The fans always come out and support us,” Handwerk said
“We have the maniacs over here in the student section
Easton will play its last Eastern Pennsylvania Conference regular-season game at Nazareth on Monday
P’burg hosts Delaware Valley in a Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex contest on Saturday morning
“We hope this pushes us and we win out,” Handwerk said

Junior catcher Easton Carmichael during the game against Mississippi on May 3
After racking up just three hits yesterday
the Sooners used their offense to take the second consecutive game in the series against Mississippi
collecting four hits in the bottom of the first inning
including a two-run home run by junior catcher Easton Carmichael that hugged the foul pole down the left field line
who has been splitting reps with redshirt sophomore infielder/outfielder Sam Christiansen at first base following junior infielder Dayton Tockey’s injury
drove home another run later in the inning on a fielder’s choice

fair and GONE 🚀 @3aston_11 pic.twitter.com/0miOg3Uhs6
Carmichael added his 12th home run of the year on a 2-0 fastball that hit the scoreboard in left field to put Oklahoma up 4-1
It was Carmichael’s second multi-homer game of the season
with his last coming in the first game of a doubleheader against Missouri on April 18
Carmichael leads the Sooners in home runs and RBIs with 48
He is also one of four Sooners — including sophomore infielder Jaxon Willits
freshman infielder Kyle Branch and junior infielder Dawson Willis — to have played in every game this season
so nice he had to do it twice 😮💨 @3aston_11 pic.twitter.com/1cSF7C06Cc
“Obviously yesterday was a bit frustrating,” Carmichael said on Saturday
“I felt like I kind of got myself out a few times
and just try to be on time and stick with your plan and approach.”
Oklahoma put up 10 hits and got a hit from six of the nine guys in the lineup
It also helped when junior left-hander Cade Crossland tossed six innings of one-run ball against Mississippi with eight strikeouts
Crossland has struggled to find consistency as the season has gone on
but his stuff on Saturday was able to keep the Mississippi hitters off balance for most of the game
After senior left-hander James Hitt gave up three hits out of the bullpen
sophomore right-hander Jason Bodin came in for the second consecutive day and got Mississippi second baseman Judd Utermark — tied for 11th in the SEC in home runs — to roll into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded
RING IT 🆙 and out the jam! M7 | OU 5, OM 3 // 📺 SECN+ pic.twitter.com/aadlEEjL72
Bodin came back out for the eighth and retired the side in order and was followed by senior right-hander Dylan Crooks
securing his 12th save of the year to finish off the game
Bodin and Crooks each rank in the top 11 in appearances in the SEC entering Saturday
“We have a lot of confidence in him,” head coach Skip Johnson said about Bodin
No different from (junior right-hander Kyson Witherspoon) or any other guy out there.”

Worthington Steel told The Dispatch that it plans to move 400 of its approximate 5,000 employees to the Easton location in 2026
"We are excited about having a new home for our business and employees to grow," the company said in a statement to The Dispatch
Worthington Steel's headquarters is at 100 West Old Wilson Bridge Road in Worthington
In 2023, Worthington Industries split into two companies — Worthington Steel and Worthington Enterprises — both headquartered at the same Worthington location
While Worthington Steel oversees steel processing
Worthington Enterprises focuses on the company's building and consumer products
Worthington Enterprises "has no plans to leave its headquarters building in Worthington," said Senior Vice President Sonya Higginbotham
Worthington Steel has begun the process of establishing its own headquarters
Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Lofy said in a statement on the Chamber's website that he wants to "express our urgent concern over the announcement of Worthington Steel and its impact on our community." Worthington Steel and Worthington Enterprises are the largest employers in the Worthington area and among the largest in the region
"While we respect their business decision and thank them for their countless contributions to our community
this moment calls for immediate action," Lofy said
Lofy said that Worthington "must evolve to meet regional demands and compete with our central Ohio counterparts."
"We cannot risk further business losses like this," Lofy said
"Worthington must remain a thriving business community
This recent loss highlights the need for decisive action."

Easton Diamond Sports announced the launch of a new generation of composite performance bat called “The Dub.” Featuring double barrel construction
The Dub is the only USSSA-certified double wall bat on the market
and it is the first time Easton has incorporated this advanced technology into a baseball bat
lower compression outer barrel to create more barrel flex across the whole barrel’s length with an inner barrel to govern performance directly at the USSSA’s allowed limit
“This technology revolutionizes the USSSA’s baseball landscape unlike anything before,” said John Loeffler
The Dub is a special advancement for the game of baseball
“The technology that changed Fastpitch is now coming to baseball
and many Easton loyalists will connect the dots between The Dub and the highly successful Ghost Double Barrel Fastpitch Bat franchise
which has been named the No.1 Performance Fastpitch Bat Series* on the market
“The Dub tech does for USSSA what the Ghost did for fastpitch,” said Matt Arndt
and players immediately notice the impact it has on their on-field success.”
“The Dub features a two-piece composite construction that maximizes barrel flex while keeping vibration to a minimum
It features a ConneXion Max elastomer connection piece to interlock the handle to the barrel
The massive sweet spot allows for solid contact and maximum power even on mishits
which is specifically engineered to each size and drop weight of the bat to provide the hitter a perfect balance between flex and stiffness
leading to improved barrel control and raw power,” continued Ardnt
Early testing by top players and travel ball organizations nationwide significantly improved performance
The 2026 DUB is a big-time game-changer for all ages of players
and Easton forecasts it will be a “top choice along with the No.1 Performance USA bat,* the Easton Hype Fire.”
*No.1 Performance Fastpitch Softball Bat Series claim based on units of performance fastpitch softball bats series sold from April 2020 to March 2022
“Performance” means fastpitch softball bats with an MSRP of $250 or greater
*No.1 Performance USSSA Baseball Bat Series claim based on units of performance baseball bats series sold from June 2023 to January 2025

there aren't too many people who more so exemplify those traits than Easton Mascarenas-Arnold
He spent his final year with USC after playing for Oregon State
He undoubtedly had a major impact on the program during his time with the Trojans
The linebacker signed an undrafted free agent agreement with the Cleveland Browns, as shared by Rivals' BeaversEdge.com writer Ryan Harlan on X
Among a number of defensive players who have found an NFL team since the draft
the LB's addition to that list only further shows how USC sets their athletes up for success once leaving campus
He will join a linebacking corps that includes Jordan Hicks
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could potentially make a return this season as well
His status is unknown as a result of that continued setback
Even so, knowing how competitive Mascarenas-Arnold is and what he can bring to the defensive unit
he'll be able to not only earn a spot on the final 53-man roster but also see significant snaps once the season begins
Although he'll be part of a team that will look to improve their latest 3-14 record in the AFC North
While with the Trojans, Mascarenas-Arnold showed his big-play potential as a starter. He has a knack for being able to read every given play and make a tackle as the action develops in front of him. His discipline and ability to finish the down with a thump were likely strong traits that led to the Browns picking him up as an UDFA
An underrated part of his game is his ball skills. While linebackers are often notorious for dropping sure-fire interceptions, he ended 2024 with five picks. A couple of those INTs came off a deflection or quick reflexes. Being as the number one aim for a defender is to give the ball back to the offense, this is something that Cleveland will hope to continue to see from the now-former Trojan.

Lucas builds off 1st career start with 8 K's in 2nd straight winApril 9th
a player comes along who reminds you that every single move matters
Fans bundled themselves in coats and scarves to survive a frigid Fenway Park Tuesday night, hoping to see a dominant lefty. Well, they did, his name was just Easton Lucas
Lucas outdueled Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet in a convincing, 6-1 win. What a 48 hours it’s been for the Blue Jays, with the news of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 14-year, $500 million extension on top of two wins in Boston
but what Lucas did Tuesday night deserves a share of the spotlight to itself
The 28-year-old journeyman threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings and the eye test may have looked even better than the box score
“He pitched with no fear,” said Bo Bichette
For him to pitch like that against a lineup like that
pitching coach Pete Walker nearly took his arm off with a high five
There was such a sense of confidence to the way Lucas pitched, his body uncoiling towards the Blue Jays’ dugout each time. The quick, quiet fist pumps grew from the first strikeout to the eighth. Coming off five shutout frames in his first start a week ago
he once again looked like a pitcher who belonged
not a guy making his second career start in the Majors
The Blue Jays claimed him off waivers from the Tigers on Aug
and you’re forgiven if you don’t remember the move
The Blue Jays churned through what felt like 100 waiver-wire pitchers in the second half of last year
particularly after their Trade Deadline sell-off
they activated him for a few days and it didn’t go well
He allowed six runs over 4 2/3 innings with four walks and two strikeouts
the first man in line to take Max Scherzer’s rotation spot on a team that’s trying to compete for the postseason … and he’s nailing it
“I have a lot of confidence in where I’m throwing my pitches
That clicked at the end of Spring Training,” Lucas said
“I was struggling to command my fastball last year and I was dealing with the adrenaline
I’m focused on being under control and commanding my fastball
he just needs to keep doing it while opposing lineups -- stacked with MLB stars -- prepare for him with more and more video to watch
people are going to react to it,” manager John Schneider said
the more adjustments you have to make without deviating from your strengths too much.”
This is where the magic happens in baseball
Front offices dream of finding another Jose Bautista
the role player they pluck off the waiver wire or land in a minor trade who suddenly clicks
Lucas hasn’t just filled in and eaten some average-looking innings
but these games count just as much as the ones in September

When the Blue Jays go shopping in the expensive aisle
Just look at the veterans alongside Lucas on this pitching staff
The Blue Jays need to find more of these success stories
a “pleasant surprise,” as Schneider put it
Whether this lasts for another week or a few more months
That mostly unnoticed waiver claim last season ended up mattering more than we ever expected
“You hope it’s one of those feel-good stories
These two starts from Lucas are what front offices and pitching coaches spend thousands of hours on a year
because when they hit -- even if it’s just for a couple of weeks -- it can make all the difference
1/13Easton track and field hosts Phillipsburg April 29, 2025.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Brad Wilson | For lehighvalleylive.comSometimes it seems that when Easton and Phillipsburg match up on the athletic field
The Red Rovers continued their recent dominance of the P‘burg girls with a decisive 116-34 triumph Tuesday in the annual rivalry dual meet in front of a big Senior Day crowd at Easton’s track
There was never much doubt the result of the meet
shot put; there was a tie in the 100) and had the kind of depth to pile up points quickly
that’s what we’ll always bring to the Easton-P’burg meet
and it was a great to see the kids and have that intensity like any other sport when jt’s Easton and P’burg,” Red Rover head coach Justin Patterson said
and we’re looking pretty sharp going into the (EPC) championship next week.”
Rover senior captain Maggie Scalzo was named the meet’s Outstanding Athlete on the girls side
as she won the 100 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles and led the Easton 400 and 1,600 meter relays to wins
always-in-a-good-mood leadership style that raises confidence all around and creates a loose
Easton was especially dominant in the distances
winning all but one top-3 place in the 800
1,600 and 3,200 runs and winning the 3,200 relay as well
Sophomore Vivian Clark’s effort in the 800-meter dash was typical of the Rovers’ dominance; she won in 2:21.48
“Today was all about the competition with P’burg,” Clark said
“I think I competed well; I had a personal-best.”
is a veteran of Rover cross country and track teams
posted a top-20 regional time in winning the 1,600 in 5:19.95
“Lyla is going to be really good,” Clark said
Knoble had to shake off Phillipsburg sophomore Adelyn Davis to win; Davis was second in 5:22.75
“I am trying to qualify for nationals (5:16),” said Knoble
“I had a PR day today so I was pretty happy with how I ran today
but the breeze made it cooler and my coach has been helping me
I don’t have times in mind; I am just trying to run to the max of my abilities right now.”
That max looks pretty darn high for Lyla Knoble at the moment

The Atlanta Falcons have another quarterback
The Falcona signed former Chargers backup Easton Stick on Monday and now have Michael Penix Jr.
The Stick signing is more notable for its timing than for its expected impact on the field in 2025
224-pound Stick started four games for the Chargers in 2023 and finished that season with 1,129 yards
He was a fifth-round pick in 2019 out of North Dakota State
Stick will provide Atlanta with an arm for offseason practices as long as Cousins is away from the team
If Cousins is eventually released or traded
Stick could compete with Jones for the backup job in Atlanta
The Falcons carried three quarterbacks throughout the 2024 season — Penix and Cousins on the 53-man roster and Nathan Peterman on the practice squad
Stick did not appear in a regular-season game last season

1/13Easton track and field hosts Phillipsburg April 29, 2025.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Brad Wilson | For lehighvalleylive.comThe winds of change blew through Easton’s track Tuesday afternoon
occasionally gusty Tuesday at the Rovers’ track facility
Phillipsburg’s boys turned the tables on the hosts
and took the annual rivalry dual track meet 83-67 in front of a solid Senior Day crowd that saw some top-level times and competition
It was the Stateliner boys’ first win over Easton since 2019
Nobody had a better day time- and competition-wise than Stateliner senior sprinter Elvin Decius
He was named the Outstanding Athlete on the boys side of the meet with four first places
He won the 100 (in a personal-best 11.00 seconds
and 400 and ran on the winning 1,600 relay that assured P’burg of the dual win in the final track event of the day
I was aiming for 10.7-10.8 in the 100; in the 200
Decius knows what a great day would look like
We bet Elvin Decius won’t have to wait long
If you’re looking for an example of classic P’burg toughness prevailing
where Stateliner junior Devin Anderson and Rover senior Xavier Richardson staged a match race
the kind of compelling competition that can make track such a thrilling sport
Anderson found just a little extra late to pull away late and win in 2:05.83 to Richardson’s 2:07.47
I felt like that the competition just makes me me; there’s no competition like racing,” Anderson said
“The last 300 meters is where you have dig deep at
Coach (Bill) Hurst always pushes us in practice and we run a lot of 300 repeats
Today was just another day of me digging deep and getting done what we have to have done.”
That motto could have applied to P’burg sophomore hurdler Mateo Barrow
The Stateliners boys have enjoyed success in the hurdles over Easton in recent seasons and that continued Tuesday
Barrow combined with junior Adeniola Akinjomo to go 1-2 in both hurdles
and Akinjomo the intermediates; Jackson Cross gave P’burg a sweep of the 300s with a third-place finish – an interesting result given that the Stateliners rarely run the 300s; New Jersey runs the 400 hurdles
“In Pennsylvania it’s just so much shorter; that last 100; the 300 hurdles is just like practice for the 400 hurdles,” said Barrow
who made it clear he didn’t care for intermediate hurdles at any distance
I wanted to go sub-15 this season but now we’re just shooting for low-15s
when I getting to the hurdles it’s like stutter-step
In the 110s I don’t have to think about it
Barrow also did the team a favor by stepping into his first 400 relay at the varsity level due to injury and helping P’burg win the race; the lightning-fast handoffs in the 400 can be very tricky for newcomers but all was smooth for the Stateliners winning in 45.47
“At school today coach (Brett Hyland) told me I had to be a man
he was throwing me in the 4x1,” Barrow said
“Just today before the race I was practicing handoffs.”
Phillipsburg won every event on the track but two
and Rover junior Evan Guydish was why; he won the 3,200 meter run in 10:33.79 and anchored the winning 3,200 relay home in 9:07.89
The 3,200 run is at the end of the meet and it was interesting to watch Guydish getting ready to run it for a long time; the intensity on his face cranked up and up as the race got closer
and I don’t get to run the 3,200 too often,” Guydish
so it was nice to get back into the longer distances races
You’re kind of in your own zone and you can focus and get a good rhythm there
you have a lot more motivation because you’re doing it for the whole team; the camaraderie.”
Easton’s boys throwers kept the dual close; they scored 24 of the 27 points available
but I think we have a very bright future,” Easton head coach Justin Patterson said

Lucas delivers 'huge' scoreless outing for Toronto in 1st MLB startApril 3rd
TORONTO -- Great time for a best-case scenario
The Blue Jays were quick to shuffle their rotation and Easton Lucas made good on their strategy, pitching five scoreless innings in a 4-2 win over the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon at Rogers Centre
It was by far Lucas’ best outing in a Blue Jays uniform, a silver lining coming out of a massive blow to Toronto’s pitching staff. Recalled from Triple-A Buffalo last Sunday as the corresponding move for Max Scherzer’s placement on the 15-day IL
Lucas held the Nationals to one hit and two walks with three strikeouts to help Toronto secure its first sweep of 2025 -- in his first Major League start
Wednesday’s finale originally lined up with Kevin Gausman’s turn through the rotation
but with a tough series against the Mets set to start on Friday in New York
giving Gausman some extra rest and turning to Lucas against a Nationals lineup that skews left-handed
Chalk it up to a team set on finding every possible edge
Scherzer’s thumb issue cast doubts over Toronto’s pitching depth even before he landed on the IL
and another wave of questions rushed in once the move was made
including bringing Yariel Rodríguez out of the bullpen for a spot start
The Cuban righty holds enough potential as a setup man -- a role in which he thrived during his time in Japan -- to stay where he is for now
but he’s built up for length and can still give his team multiple innings if necessary
That decision opened another avenue for Lucas
who appeared in two games with the Blue Jays after being claimed off waivers from the Tigers last August
Toronto was the third and final stop of Lucas’ 2024 season
The organization saw enough upside to keep him around and work on improvements in the offseason
but last year the results were tough,” said Lucas
who pitched to a 10.80 ERA over 11 2/3 innings in the Majors in 2024
“… To have them have confidence in me and to be the first guy up when they need a guy is incredible
No one was asking Lucas to be Max Scherzer
The directive from manager John Schneider was simple: “Be convicted and stay on the attack.” Lucas did just that
riding an effective high fastball and a revamped changeup to some quick outs that allowed the Blue Jays to take a breath before embarking on a stretch of 13 games in 13 days
“He gave us everything that we needed,” said George Springer
who belted his first homer of the season to help Lucas to a win
“A performance like that is huge [not just] for him
That appreciation reached all corners of the clubhouse
who hit Lucas with a “way to step up” after the southpaw’s day was done
“That was awesome,” a smiling Lucas recalled
They're super supportive and great dudes
so it's awesome to get to hang around them.”
The Blue Jays are headed for New York with a 5-2 record and plenty to like about how things are going on either side of the ball
one good outing does not not make a starter
and Lucas isn’t exactly a lock to occupy this spot until Scherzer is healthy again
If this team could get a couple more best-case scenarios out of this early adversity, it would probably entail a combination of Lucas starting and Rodríguez pitching for length out of the bullpen. Names like Eric Lauer and Jake Bloss (Toronto’s No. 6 prospect
especially considering the long stretch ahead
“We’ll see,” Schneider said when asked about how the Blue Jays will move forward
“I think it was a good lineup for [Lucas] to navigate

the Toronto Blue Jays replaced the future Hall of Famer in their rotation with a 28-year-old who had never made an MLB start
Easton Lucas proceeded to step into Scherzer's shoes and make history right off the bat
Lucas made his second appearance of the season Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox
giving up three hits and a walk in 5.0 innings
That followed up Lucas' season debut against the Washington Nationals on April 2
when he allowed one hit and two walks in 5.0 scoreless innings of work
According to The Score's Jonah Birenbaum
Lucas became the fourth pitcher Blue Jays history to record back-to-back starts of 5.0-plus innings allowing zero runs
zero extra-base hits and four-or-fewer baserunners
Looking beyond the franchise history books
Lucas is the first pitcher ever to do so in his first two major league starts
Easton Lucas is the fourth pitcher in Blue Jays history to record consecutive starts with:5+ IP0 R0 XBH4 or fewer baserunners allowedHe's also the first pitcher EVER to reach all of those benchmarks in each of his first two starts in the major leagues.Insane
Lucas' only big league experience came in the form of 14 relief outings with the Oakland Athletics
Detroit Tigers and Blue Jays between 2023 and 2024
Lucas then went 0-1 with an 8.64 ERA and 1.680 WHIP in the Grapefruit League this spring
Lucas came out of the bullpen 153 times compared to his four starts
Three of Lucas' four spring training appearances were starts
and he seems to have made himself more than comfortable in the role over the past week
Lucas is likely to take the mound next against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday
will have a chance to claim their four-game series with the Red Sox on Wednesday
First pitch between the two AL East foes is scheduled for 6:45 p.m
