Running a successful fitness facility boils down to three words: attract
Figuring out how to actually make it work — consistently
and in a way that feels personal to each member
Echelon Fitness has been tackling that challenge head-on since its launch in 2017
redefining what it means to create connection inside a gym
connected ecosystem built to deliver deeply personalized experiences — anywhere
engage and keep members — especially across multiple locations — gyms need to build a meaningful connection with people,” says Mike Rabinovitz
Chief Marketing Officer at Echelon Fitness
“It has to feel like something they can’t get anywhere else.”
That kind of connection doesn’t just happen with good equipment or trendy programming
evolves and scales without losing the individual touch
great content and a holistic approach into a unified experience
we see ourselves as a technology company just as much as a fitness and wellness brand,” Rabinovitz explains
“Our approach to AI is about creating a truly personalized experience
meeting people where they are and evolving right alongside them to get them where they want to go.”
It’s this flexibility — this blend of physical and digital — that makes the Echelon ecosystem so effective
members can seamlessly pick up where they left off
learns preferences and uses AI to make workout recommendations based on goals
“We’ve built a connected ecosystem across locations through the Echelon app,” says Rabinovitz
and the system understands their goals and adapts accordingly.”
That real-time adaptability is baked into every layer of the experience from class recommendations to personalized performance tracking
none of this works without compelling content
“Our content strategy is all about keeping people engaged
entertained and coming back for more,” Rabinovitz says
“We don’t just stream workouts — we create experiences.”
ever-growing catalog of live and on-demand classes across numerous modalities
From scenic rides and strength training to podcasts and wellness coaching
it’s built to appeal to all kinds of members
“We truly offer something for everyone,” says Rabinovitz
“Members can choose from a wide range of trainers
programming music genres … it’s all about personalization and keeping things fresh.”
And the company isn’t just guessing at what members want — it’s listening
“What really sets us apart is how we’ve designed our ecosystem based on real user feedback
including learnings from our commercial gym partners
so we’re delivering what members actually want,” he explains
“And we never stop evolving — we constantly analyze user data and adjust our content strategy accordingly.”
it’s about delivering something members actually look forward to
“It’s not just about workouts — it’s about creating an immersive
and therefore drives results and retention.”
Echelon’s value proposition is clear: it’s a powerful platform that grows with you
tech-enabled equipment is built with scalability in mind,” says Rabinovitz
“It’s a perfect fit for operators looking to expand quickly across multiple locations.”
That flexibility extends beyond the member experience
Each piece of Echelon’s Intelligent Fitness continually collects real-time data and delivers insights back to gym operators
This data isn’t just for performance tracking; it’s business intelligence
“From optimizing floor plans and equipment mix to shaping sales strategies and spotting usage trends
the insights gathered across locations help franchises run more efficiently,” says Rabinovitz
Echelon is preparing to expand its ecosystem with a new white-label app for gym partners — potentially a game-changer for operators looking to take greater control of the digital member experience
“The app uses AI to create custom workout plans tailored not just to the individual
but also to the gym’s specific layout and equipment,” Rabinovitz explains
more relevant recommendations — and better use of the tools and space gyms already have.”
This new solution will also integrate with personal training services
enabling trainers to offer customized plans and real-time adjustments
Operators will have access to rich backend insights to better understand and engage their members
it’s all about helping gyms build stronger relationships with their members through personalization and smart technology,” Rabinovitz adds
Echelon is focused on pushing the industry forward — both for individual members and for the operators that serve them
“For Echelon, success means delivering a seamless, personalized fitness experience that empowers both members and operators,” Rabinovitz says
“Our roadmap forward includes expanding our AI-driven tools
providing deeper insights and helping gym operators unlock new revenue opportunities.”

Do not sell or share my personal information:
Investment bank Echelon Partners clocked 118 deals in the wealth management space last quarter
just under the all-time quarterly record of 125 that the firm observed in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Is it worth it to buy exercise equipment for your home
Understandably, it's not a question that invites a simple yes or no. Sure, the convenience factor is great, but even if you're just buying a $100 set of weights
and then the time you'll invest in actually using them to make your purchase worth it
suppose you're buying a treadmill instead of weights
The prospect of confirming your order and getting a 300-pound package sent to your door (that you hope to but may not consistently use) is likely to be even more daunting
It's a feeling I can relate to: I'm someone who's enjoyed the routine of running around my neighborhood
but also gone through phases of feeling burdened by my yoga mat gathering dust in the corner
I also live in an area that gets punishingly hot over the summer
can have its days of less than stellar air quality year-round
and I mask indoors (leaving gyms a less desirable option)
so I've been treadmill curious for a while
I decided to use my unique position as a shopping reporter to do the research for other folks who may find themselves in my shoes
That's what led me to the Echelon Stride 6: a treadmill more hefty than a walking pad (and therefore allows me to actually run indoors safely)
giving the promise of some level of storage — and the freedom to keep it from becoming the centerpiece of my living room
I can confidently say that the Stride 6 offers a level of convenience that'd be challenging to find at a better price point
but it's not necessarily a no-brainer purchase for anyone who's been interested in a folding treadmill
(In the course of my research and testing over the past couple of months
the price has been marked down to at least $1,399.99)
4.75 feet tall x 2.7 feet wide x 5.4 feet long
A running deck that measures 20.5 inches wide x 60 inches long
12 incline levels and speed that maxes up to 12.5 miles per hour
with adjustment wheels for each on either side of the handlebars
The Stride 6 is not necessarily an exceptional running machine (nor does it attempt to be one)
with a large part of its appeal resting in how well it functions as a foldable treadmill
I expect a $1,700 price point to mean a) the treadmill is very easy to fold and unfold and b) I can store it without much hassle
Things started off strong — once we got the treadmill indoors (more on that below)
setting it up was literally a matter of pushing the upper part of the treadmill into place
At no point did it feel unsteady or too heavy
and everything locked into place with a reassuring click — zero assembly required
When I saw the advertised "auto-fold" feature
I hoped it might be as simple as pressing a button and standing back
but I first had to fold the display console perpendicular to the bars of the treadmill
I released it using buttons under the handlebars so that the console could fall in line with the rest of the frame
I could press the pedal on the left side of the treadmill that initiated the "auto-fold," which essentially meant the treadmill collapsed at a controlled rate
you'll want to make sure you have at least a foot of clearance to the left of the treadmill
I initially placed the treadmill just a couple of inches from the wall
and it was basically impossible for me to reach the pedal without being on the running deck
in which case the treadmill wouldn't be able to fold closed
you can use the handlebar on the back to push and pull the treadmill to adjust its position
I was also able to move it around unfolded
folding it feels like the much better option.)
this handlebar is also what you can grab to push the treadmill upright
Learn from my mistakes: do not attempt to put it upright alone on the first try — I learned about three-quarters of the way to the upright position that I am simply not strong enough to do it solo
and while I was able to lower it back down without injury
Echelon advertises that while holding on to the handlebar
you should be able to push the treadmill around from side to side
thanks again to the wheels located at the front portion of the treadmill
the treadmill is five feet and four inches — I'm five five and a half
but it felt like it was too tall (and too heavy) for me to reasonably feel comfortable pushing it around
especially if I wanted to push it down the hall and into a bedroom to store
I'd stick to keeping it next to the wall you'll fold it against — and using the included hardware to bolt it into place when not in use
allows the user to fold it up but uses its own frame to keep itself folded
and offers essentially zero versatility in folding it down or moving it around with ease
The result is a rather clunky V-shaped fold that
might give you a bit more ground space but feels more visually obstructive than just leaving the treadmill as is
The Sole F80 is closer in price to the Stride 6 at $1,899
but follows the same folding mechanism as the NordicTrack treadmill
the Stride 6 is unique in that it offers a slim fold found more often on walking pads
while still offering the functionality of a full-fledged treadmill that's safe to run on
and at a price point cheaper than other folding treadmills
The Stride 6 did its job reliably and functioned perfectly well as an in-home treadmill
Maybe that's not the most exciting endorsement
the draw of this treadmill isn't necessarily about how unique the running experience is
Though it didn't have any exceptional features for the actual running experience
The running deck was a nice size and provided a decent amount of cushion
but it certainly wasn't the loudest treadmill I've used
Adjusting speeds with the knob or presets on the console was intuitive and easy to use while running
The treadmill inclined seamlessly with both the knob and the presets
For its downsides, the console shook some when I pushed the speed up, the built-in fan was better at making noise than cooling me off, and the heart rate monitors were touch and go
sometimes telling me my heart rate was the same at the beginning of jogging as when I was running as hard as I could
None of these were particularly egregious cons — maybe the one that stood out the most was that the console isn't super flexible for fitting different size devices if you want to use the top hook to keep it in place (or keep your case on)
the console had a standard layout with the time elapsed
There are 10 presets along each side for speed and incline
the treadmill has two cup holders (which came in handy for my water bottle and earbuds case) and some extra storage space for smaller items
This should be a given with any treadmill that's made it to market
the safety key worked flawlessly every time I tested it
Let me start by saying that though in-home delivery costing extra isn't unusual for treadmill delivery
I worked with an Echelon representative to coordinate the treadmill delivery
so I didn't see the standard checkout screen
which would've clued me in to some important information
so I didn't anticipate there would be any issues (and assumed that for a 200-plus pound package
I scheduled a delivery window with FedEx Freight
and let me know that they wouldn't actually be able to bring the treadmill to my front door due to the three steps that lead up to my porch
My partner and I tried to work together to bring it in
so we ended up hiring a couple of local movers who were kind enough to forgo their three-hour minimum and charged us $150 when it was all said and done
because the assembly process is basically nonexistent
try to find some cheaper help locally if you don't want to add $300 to your grand total
I saw a local fitness store offers in-home delivery and assembly for $200
so you can always check that option as well
this in-home fee is relatively on par with other brands I researched
which offered in-home delivery prices of $219.99 and $200
While this is more a knock against treadmill delivery in general than Echelon
it does feel like something priced at $1,700 should include in-home delivery
making a fully functional treadmill that also doesn't impose too much on space doesn't seem like an easy task
It's not surprising that they're aren't a ton of truly compact options out there
Echelon seems to have hit as close to the mark as it could've with the Stride 6
offering a machine that doesn't feel half as space-eating as other treadmills I've seen
Maybe if it's on sale for $1,000 as it was on Black Friday
or at least for that $1,399.99 sale price that's been lingering around (if you're especially keen on getting one ASAP)
I'd say to wait to see where foldable treadmills go
It feels like the Stride 6 provides a solid foundation for what they could be
but it doesn't quite hit the mark in terms of portability and easy storage
it could be the perfect treadmill for someone to use and easily store under their bed or against their wall
But if you can't keep the treadmill close to where you would store it or don't have another person to help you lift it upright
it's likely more trouble than it's worth for the time being
I spent two weeks with the Echelon Stride 6 treadmill in my living room
using it as my sole source of cardio workouts
I would describe myself as a beginner runner — I don't do long distance running or consider it one of my favorite hobbies
but I do it because it's one of the easiest ways for me to stay healthy
I evaluated the Stride 6 specifically on the basis of its functionality as a folding treadmill
half of the scores weighed in on how well it delivered on its claims about folding
while the other half of the scores I gave it rested on how it performed as a treadmill
here's specifically what I paid attention to:
I considered everything from the delivery and set up
to the experience of folding and unfolding the treadmill
I also looked at whether there were any hiccups in starting a run
as well as if the metrics all performed smoothly while I was actually running
Storage potential: Having the option to fold the treadmill flat in the same position does reduce visual clutter
but Echelon put wheels on this treadmill for a reason
I looked at how feasible it was that a person could move this treadmill around
whether in the folded flat or folded up position
and whether this actually added to the appeal of the treadmill
Running experience: While I didn't hold this treadmill to the standard of a premium running experience
I did expect it to deliver on the basics: easy speed and incline changes
basic metrics like workout length and distance run
a running deck that felt good to run on for extended periods of time
Value: Treadmills exist at all kinds of price points
and I assumed that the Stride 6 would be priced at more of a premium for offering its unique folding capabilities and for not looking as bulky as cheaper models
I compared its pricing to other folding treadmills
I took into account how it performed on all of the above and
if the folding tech is at the point that justifies a more mid-range to high price point
so while my experience with it is not in the above review
I hope to include it in an update in the near future

The Army is still determining how best to wage electronic warfare at echelon with various platforms
A series of events will help officials determine what the concept of employment for EW will be at the division level and what programs of record will look like
Those events included a tabletop exercise at Fort Eisenhower
focused on how electronic warfare will be done at division and higher; an October Fires Symposium at Fort Sill
cyber and EW will integrate into fires; a capabilities-based assessment for electromagnetic warfare conducted by the Cyber Capability Integration Directorate at the Cyber Center of Excellence in Augusta
that will be completed over the next year; and a sensor-to-shooter event focused on challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and long-range precision fires at Fort Leavenworth
“We’re doing a deep dive on that now,” Col
Army capability manager for electronic warfare
said in a recent interview regarding how the service is thinking about fighting electronic warfare at echelon and with what platforms
“I had a sit-down with some folks at the Pentagon yesterday
One of the things that came back was truly
what does that concept of employment look like at the division?”
She explained that the Cyber CDID event helped determine what exactly the forthcoming Terrestrial Layer System-Echelons Above Brigade (TLS-EAB) system will be
Given the EAB effort was less mature than the BCT variant at the time the decision to split the functions was made, officials have stated EAB will be the main component for defining and demonstrating an initial EW architecture and publishing the requests for information concerning the architecture
that will eventually deliver it back to the BCT version for integration
“There’s been some interesting information that came out of that [tabletop event]
We also have another CONEMP we’re taking a look at from [the] C5ISR [Center] to help shape some discussions with the maneuvers at an upcoming tabletop exercise with them because I think that’s going to be very important,” Gorman said
“As we’re flushing out the requirements at echelon that we’re not only talking to fires
Because it’s ensuring that we’re incorporating our capabilities in a light infantry fight
what does it look like to implement an EW sensor on a” robotic combat vehicle
Officials are also looking at other capabilities that have been prototyped and used primarily at the brigade level to see if there’s applicability at division, namely, the Tactical Electronic Warfare System-Infantry Brigade Combat Team, or TEWS-I
which was initially a quick-reaction capability built by General Dynamics
providing a smaller system designed for infantry vehicles
It was a prototype activity to serve as a risk reduction and requirements pathfinder for the Army’s program of record
the Terrestrial Layer System-Brigade Combat Team (TLS-BCT) and has been used by units within the XVIII Airborne Corps
Gorman noted that the service is looking at experimentation efforts next year to not only gain improvements for TEWS-I
but how that capability could potentially be a division asset
The Army is still essentially in the requirements phase when it comes to the electronic warfare portion of TLS-BCT again
trying to figure out what makes the most sense going forward
Gorman noted it could evolve to include more robust communications systems
deception capabilities or situational awareness tools
while the Army is currently fielding the TLS Manpack — the first official program in decades for a dismounted electronic attack capability that soldiers can use to conduct direction finding with limited jamming on-the-move as well — for mobility
the service is looking at possibly bringing that into a vehicle mount with an amplifier for extended range
something that was conceived of initially within the original TLS family
Constant feedback from units is also helping to inform future generations of the Manpack capability
As the Army is continuing to work on the platform and capability side of the issue
fleshing out how they’ll be employed
the other critical parallel effort is moving out on EW-enabling capabilities to be able to plan and manage within the spectrum
“It’s also ensuring that we address it as a system-of-systems approach … It’s going to be important to be able to ensure that these capabilities that we’re fielding
we’re able to communicate and C2 those systems
be able to also incorporate where the systems are on the battlefield and incorporate that into not only our EW plan of action via [the Electronic Warfare Planning and Management Tool]
but then also think leveraging [the Spectrum Situational Awareness System] for the spectrum management
to be able to also bring that information into fires for a more comprehensive
non-lethal effect support to fires planning capability,” Gorman said
The Spectrum Situational Awareness System (S2AS) is a new start in fiscal 2025 and is envisioned to be a commercial off-the-shelf solution that will provide sensing and visualization of what units look like in the spectrum and allow commanders to be able to sense and report in real-time their command post signatures
sources of electromagnetic interference — either from coalition partners or the enemy — and threat emissions
Officials have described EWPMT as the glue that holds the electronic warfare architecture together
jamming and sensing capabilities won’t be effective
is like we have a lot of Manpacks coming out
We’re going to have to be able to ensure that those systems can be effectively C2’d and that missions can be planned at the optimal level at echelon
so that way everyone understands what’s going on their battlespace
I think that helps reduce potential adjacent unit RF interference or jamming,” Gorman said
“It’s also ensuring that our signatures that we’re emitting
that is also a part of our planning efforts and you have to do that with each and every EW emitter or an effector.”
The Army will begin embedding its requirements personnel with experimental units to create a direct feedback loop to inform the software developers for EWPMT in the program office
This will help the program office prioritize as the service is planning likely tranches of 12 improvements per quarter going forward in line with a holistic software modernization strategy for EWPMT Next

Joseph VanWagner left behind his native Michigan to seek opportunities in the culinary world
He honed his chef skills at several Michelin-starred restaurants like New York City’s Daniel and Chicago’s Blackbird and Alinea
he noticed a pattern: much of the best produce the restaurants sourced came from Michigan farms
“My philosophy for many years has been that no one’s really pushing for what Michigan tastes like,” VanWagner says
we’re the second largest producer of food in the United States; we have the second largest biodiversity to California
and so much of our amazing food goes to great restaurants in other states
The restaurant has cultivated a close relationship with Ann Arbor’s Argus Farm Stop
“They are essentially our produce company,” VanWagner says
“And then we’ll fill in the gaps with other farms that we really love to work with.”
The restaurant will operate at 200 S. Main Street
The food and drink team includes level two sommelier Taylor Schmidt Johnson, who previously worked at The Royce and Michael Symon’s since-closed Roast; as well as pastry chef Ben Robison, who helped craft the pastry menu at Le Suprême
which will change “almost daily” depending on what’s fresh
It will feature both large and small format plates
The restaurant will also offer three types of tasting menus — one for omnivores
Guests can watch their dinners be prepared at the tasting counter
which sits in front of the open kitchen that includes a charcoal grill and wood-fired stove
guests can expect a vegan dish with cabbage that is pickled
then char-grilled and served with an okonomiyaki pancake and tonburi (a seed nicknamed “land caviar” due to its appearance
VanWagner also plans to serve a rotating salad composed of the day’s freshest vegetables
so it’s going to be on the menu,” VanWagner says
we will source the best product possible.”
the Echelon team hopes to secure the license to do its own dry aging
There’s also a staff member who’s licensed to sell mushrooms; and foraged ingredients will be a regular part of the menu
“Foraging is a huge part of Michigan cuisine,” VanWagner says
“It allows you to work with something that nobody else is providing their guests and allows to learn and grow as cooks and as chefs
if we get to bring in a bunch of chanterelles [a type of edible fungi] or different mosses
all kinds of different things that you just don’t see
It’s a really fun learning moment for both the guests and for the cooks.”
Since last July, the team has been popping up in a wood stove-fitted food truck, borrowed from Chef Luciano Del Signore; who used it for his Bigalora restaurant
“The food truck was definitely us getting impatient for all the things that need to happen to open a restaurant,” VanWagner says
“We got all our produce from Argus and a few other farms
The truck will return every year from July 15 through October
in a partially enclosed patio space along Washington Street
Echelon employees will receive health benefits
Echelon will set aside a percentage of its revenue
in an account called the “team wellness fund,” which will be paid out monthly to non-tipped workers as a supplement to their wages
based on the number of hours each employee works
Employees also receive three days quarterly of PTO
to be used for volunteering in the community
It will even have a “culinary library,” where employees can check books out and put together book reports to share what they’ve learned with the rest of the staff

Explore Echelon Kitchen & Bar where open-fire cooking reigns
Joseph VanWagner noticed a common theme while working at powerhouse restaurants like Alinea and Blackbird in Chicago and Daniel in New York: Much of the produce came from farms in his home state
VanWagner began to realize he had an opportunity to combine his culinary talents with the Mitten’s the bounty of local agriculture
That’s the basis for the menu at Echelon Kitchen & Bar
Armed with local produce from Michigan farms
many of which are situated within 50 miles or less of the restaurant — like Goetz Farm
and Tantré Farm — VanWagner hopes to change the menu near-daily and cooking will take place using a wood-fired oven
Echelon is among a growing number of restaurants like the James Beard Award-nominated wine bar Spencer to open in Tree Town over the past several years that are turning to local sourcing as much as possible and offering touches like a tasting menu
thus helping to shed the local dining scene’s reputation for college town greasy spoons and pizza slices
Managing partner Doug Zeif of Next Hospitality Advisors based in Coconut Creek
Florida brought on VanWagner to lead the restaurant
Set in a 7,000-square-foot space in a century-old building
Echelon Kitchen & Bar was designed by Anne Faherty of Chicago-based Faherty Interiors and includes seating for 150
Dishes designed with seasonality in mind include a salad featuring shaved winter vegetables topped with chive oil
and horseradish creme fraiche; house-made bucatini pasta with lobster
and toasted milk solid pancito; and an entree called “All of the Chicken,” a whole bird prepared four ways: crispy fried legs
and a stuffed chicken wing – served with a Mandarin pancake
Echelon also features a chef’s counter experience
an off-the-menu six-course meal s of the chef’s choosing is served at an eight-seat counter alongside the kitchen for $110 with an optional beverage pairing
VanWagner is joined by pastry chef Ben Robison, who previously led the pastry programs at Le Suprême, Freya, and Chartreuse. The two first met at the now-closed Bacco Ristorante in Southfield and worked together at Local in Ferndale and Bistro 82 in Royal Oak
and have collaborating on several of pop-ups
Robison hopes to offer diners a broader view of what a dessert can be by finding ways to bridge the gap between savory and sweet
Robison’s desserts also use seasonal ingredients
such as a vegan chocolate cake made with an almond-based milk chocolate ganache
Managing director Emily Habib will head operations, while sommelier Taylor Schmidt Johnson, who’s also worked at the Royce Detroit and the defunct Michael Symon’s Roast, is heading the beverage program. Johnson’s cocktails complement the food, with offerings like the Mace, composed of Detroit City Distillery’s Butcher’s Cut Bourbon
Echelon also offers low-ABV and spirit-free drinks like the Garden
made with non-alcoholic spirit Seedlip Garden
Habib tells Eater that she wants to redefine the culture of working in a restaurant
and implementing a “Well-being Fund” in which 3 percent of all food and drink sales is collected to provide additional monthly support to non-tipped workers
She is also helping to launch the Women in Hospitality Leadership Ann Arbor group
with the goal being to bring women in the industry together to provide a support system in a traditionally male-driven industry

Owners Bill Stein of Ann Arbor and south Floridian Doug Zeif—instrumental in the growth of the Cheesecake Factory—hired Emily Habib back in January 2023 to spearhead the concept
“There is nothing like this in the city of Ann Arbor or in the surrounding areas,” she enthuses
Habib says they knew the hundred-year-old building
but they didn’t anticipate finding five layers of asbestos under the kitchen
Nor did they realize that the roof wouldn’t support their HVAC and hood equipment without steel reinforcement
Executive chef Joe VanWagner, whose career includes stops in Paris, New York City, Chicago, Detroit, and most recently the Dixboro Project
says “I’ve been looking for this opportunity my whole life … the draw of wood-fired
that’s something they really want to get behind
but I don’t think a lot of people really do it.”
The daily give-and-take with a myriad of producers is key to coordinating a fresh
creative menu that changes nearly as often as the weather
“The farmers are now taking on part of a chef role
and the chefs are taking on part of the farmer’s role,” VanWagner says
They expect to burn through over 250 cubic feet of Michigan fruit woods
per month in preparing complex recipes that minimize food waste by incorporating what might otherwise be scraps into oils
Relying on the wood-fired oven and grill “has been like relearning how to cook all over again,” VanWagner says
“Smoke and char are some of the most cloying flavors
“So how do you create a dish that has the nuance of smoke and char but it’s still light and bright
there’s no [temperature] knob that you’re controlling this with
because you are feeling how hot things are
you’re seeing the texture of the food that you’re cooking
You have to be constantly in tune with all the sensory things.”
The menu features about eighteen shareable plates of various sizes
Habib anticipates an average bill of about $55 per diner
From the counter area in view of the wood-fired kitchen
six-to-nine course chef’s tastings ($110) are available for vegans
VanWagner’s kitchen staff of seventeen includes executive pastry chef Ben Robison
whose two-day fermented flatbreads figure to be a menu fixture
The beverage program is directed by sommelier Taylor Johnson
steeped in all facets of restaurant hospitality as the daughter of one of Detroit’s most prominent chefs
“It’s just been so exciting to work with these very
very small producers and to allow them a platform alongside our amazing culinary expressions,” she says
“Although we’re not going to be the largest list in the state or the country
they expect to open an as-yet-unnamed speakeasy tiki bar in the basement
I probably wouldn’t be in Ann Arbor,” VanWagner says
and I could comfortably say the same for about 75 percent of the kitchen
I do think this is the best collection of talent that’s been assembled in Michigan in a long time.”

but poses a good question — do you need another screen in your life

After Peloton helped kickstart a surge in popularity for connected home fitness equipment, Echelon has emerged as one of its true competitors, having created some of the best exercise bikes on the market
As the entry-level model in Echelon’s Connect series
the Echelon Connect EX-5 Bike is the most affordable — but also the most limited in its tech.
but our team of certified trainers and CrossFit professionals have tested more than 20 different exercise bikes from top brands — including its big brother
the Echelon EX-8s — and rated them on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 across 12 different categories
After comparing the EX-5’s features against previous models
we feel confident saying that it’s an excellent option for budget-minded bikers in search of a versatile cardio machine that can provide connected programming
The Echelon Connect EX-5 features 32 levels of magnetic resistance
along with a four-way adjustable seat and handlebars
you can connect your own device to experience immersive rides with auto-adjusting resistance
This article has been reviewed by Amanda Capritto, CPT, CF-L1, CES, CSNC a certified personal trainer
She reviewed the research we cite to help ensure we’re providing helpful
The Echelon EX-5 checks all the boxes you want to see in a quality studio bike — four-way seat and handle adjustments
Just like the higher-end options in the series — the mid-range EX-5s-22 ($1,799) and the luxury EX-8s ($2,999) — compatibility with the Echelon Fit app comes standard.
offers access to thousands of on-demand workouts both on and off the bike
you can stream those classes on an HD touchscreen mounted on the bike
this could be a positive or a negative.
While the EX-5 does not include a screen, it has a device holder above the handlebars where you can secure phones and tablets between 5.5 and 12.5 inches. That device holder also flips 180 degrees, making it easy for you to hop off the bike for a strength training or yoga class.
An integrated touchscreen is convenient for those who see themselves taking classes every time they hop on the bike
the lack of a huge display may be a positive.
noted that its 24-inch screen made maneuvering the bike difficult
“Moving the bike around wasn’t too bad on my own
but the 24-inch screen made it a bit unwieldy,” they said
At 106 pounds — 18 pounds less than the EX-8s — the display-less EX-5 can tilt and roll with ease.
unless you have an 18-pound tablet in the device holder
most people should be able to tilt and roll the EX-5 with ease

With 32 levels of resistance and 15,000 Echelon Fit classes just a tap away, it’s not difficult to work up a decent sweat aboard the EX-5. With its four-way adjustable seat and handlebars, we appreciated that taller and shorter users can reap the benefits of cycling classes on the app.
Compared to the 16 or 24 levels you’ll find on comparable bikes
the EX-5’s 32 levels of magnetic resistance provide a wide range that can help spike your heart rate or just flush out your legs
When you need to adjust resistance during a ride
you can do so by turning the knob just below the bullhorn handlebars.

The Echelon Connect EX-5’s lightweight steel frame can provide stability for users up to 300 pounds

you can always swap it out with a different one
The pedals on the EX-5 are reversible, with the option for riders to clip in with SPD-compatible cycling shoes. “I loved that you can clip in your cycling shoes on one side, then flip over to use running or cross-training shoes on the other,” our tester noted
Its toe cages are also adjustable to help you find a snug fit
We also like the adjustability of the device holder
which can be flipped 180 degrees so you can access off-bike strength and mobility workouts.
meaning you can ride along with the app’s vast library of cardio classes and take advantage of its other perks
such as hands-free adjustments to your resistance during classes and virtual rides
as you approach a hill while cruising through the Japanese countryside
the resistance will automatically adjust to mimic the terrain without you needing to fiddle with the adjustment knob.
Our tester spent ample time exploring the live and on-demand classes on offer
but thought — for about the same price — the Peloton app may be slightly farther along
“You can tell they’re trying to emulate the Peloton app
but it’s just not the same quality production yet,” they explained
which were scenic rides similar to JRNY on Bowflex machines or iFIT.” They scored the dynamic programming a 4 out of 5
but you can still take classes using a smartphone or tablet strapped into the bike’s device holder.

but you can save a bit of cash by paying for a full year subscription
which reduces the monthly cost to $33.33 per month
which is quite the upgrade over the one-year warranty for non-members.
App-connected home exercise bikes tend to have a laundry list of features and specifications that can be confusing to sift through. The EX-5 is no exception. Before clicking add to cart, consider what to look for when buying an indoor cycle
The EX-5s-22 and the EX-8s cost $1,799.99 and $2,999.99
The $1,299.99 EX-5 shares many of the same features as its big siblings — adjustable seat and handlebars
and 32 levels of magnetic resistance — but lacks its own touchscreen
we think saving the $500 or — gulp — $1,700 with the EX-5 is the way to go.
If you’re interested in an Echelon Premier membership — you don’t need one to use the bike — you will also want to factor in the monthly cost of an Echelon Premier membership. At $39.99 per month, it’s comparable to some of the best fitness apps in terms of pricing
but we do think it lacks some of the production quality of Peloton or iFIT
You’ll also need to consider Echelon’s warranty situation
which our tester was — how should I put this
“I was shocked to see only a one-year warranty
and one year for labor,” says certified personal trainer Amanda Capritto
The one-year warranty from Echelon is certainly lean compared to the 10-year frame warranty offered by ProForm — or even the 5-year warranty offered by Peloton
which is considered by many to be substandard.
Echelon does include a 5-year warranty for active Echelon Premier members
which is wrapped into the $39.99 monthly charge for app access
The EX-5 takes up a footprint of 8.06 square feet, so you’ll want to break out the measuring tape in your home gym to make sure you’ve got ample room for it. That’s about half the floor space the average two-seater sofa would occupy. (1) This is similar to the size of two of the EX-5’s competitors
the ProForm Studio Bike 22 and the Peloton Bike
[Related: The 6 Best Folding Exercise Bikes]
The EX-5s-22 and the EX-8s have similar dimensions to the EX-5
but they also have 22- and 24-inch touchscreens
which our testers have noted make transport much more difficult
This is another positive of the EX-5’s lack of touchscreen — it’s much more suitable for those living in small spaces.
The EX-5s-22 and the EX-8s both feature huge HD touchscreens and Bluetooth resistance controllers
The EX-8s is even outfitted with flywheel lights that flash in concert with the intensity of your ride.
while still compatible with the Echelon Fit app
which is what allows for its lower price and better portability
You’ll likely be able to save some cash by using what you already have — a phone or tablet
there are alternative options near this price point that do feature HD touchscreens and fitness app compatibility
We could all maybe use a little slimming down when it comes to the screens in our lives
but if you think you’ll value a built-in display
With all the technology on offer in available home studio cycling bikes
it can be difficult to parse what is necessary to support the type of ride you’re after
Check out the chart below to compare the features and specs of the Echelon Connect EX-5 and a few of its top competitors
In a few areas, the EX-5 and the ProForm Studio Bike 22 have similar or identical features
you can start to see who may gravitate to which one.
but its weight capacity is 50 pounds less and offers 8 fewer levels of resistance
Anyone searching for a high-tech experience
may prefer its 22-inch HD touchscreen over securing their own tablet or phone in the device holder on the EX-5
big screens can wobble during intense workouts or throw off the balance of the bike when moving it
all three offer integration with popular fitness apps for roughly the same monthly price
Echelon Fit lags a bit behind Peloton and iFIT
Exercise bikes that we have tested with iFIT integration consistently earn ratings of 5 out of 5 for dynamic programming
and we’re also big fans of Peloton’s classes and instructors
The HD touchscreen displays may give the EX-5’s competitors a leg up in terms of tech
but given the quality of the actual bike — something else our screens can distract us from — we still think the EX-5 has a lot to offer
The Echelon EX-5 is available directly through Echelon’s website
The Echelon Connect EX-5 comes with a 12-month total warranty
but Echelon Premier members get a 5-year total warranty with their $39.99 per month subscription
Our tester scored Echelon’s customer service a 3.5 out of 5
You can reach the customer care team at cs@echelonfit.com or 833-937-2453
Echelon Fitness makes digitally-connected fitness equipment
Their machines connect with the Echelon Fit app
providing access to over 15,000 live and on-demand workouts spanning cardio
The Echelon Connect EX-5 delivers the essentials you want in a connected exercise bike — 32 levels of magnetic resistance
and reversible pedals — but jettisons the bulky touchscreens of its competitors for a more utilitarian profile that can also help you save some coin.
If you are looking for a high-tech experience in this price range
the EX-5 may not be your match made in exercise bike heaven
and a wide range of resistance levels that allow them to just hop on and ride
the relative lack of technology may not be all that important
and an Echelon Fit subscription is an additional $39.99 per month
This is right in line with the ProForm Studio Bike 22
Among the three bikes in the Connect Bike Series
but you still need a free Echelon account to get rolling
We’d recommend investing the $39.99 per month in the Echelon Fit app
so you can get the most out of your bike with access to thousands of on-demand and live classes
Instead of a built-in touchscreen — like the pricier Echelon bikes — it features a tablet holder just above the handlebars and water bottle holders. Bluetooth-compatible devices between 5.5 and 12.5 inches can fit securely in the device holder. The device holder can also flip 180 degrees so you can hop off the bike and take on other cardio workouts at home

Firearm: Springfield Armory Echelon Compact: MSRP: $719)
Springfield Armory recently released the pistol we’ve chosen for today’s kit
to a chorus of voices wondering why the company didn’t offer this version first
rather than the full-size Echelon released in 2023
The answer is quite simple: Springfield Armory wanted the full-size Echelon available first to fill a duty-pistol-size hole in its lineup
several of the XD models were of sufficient size for duty purposes
but Springfield Armory wanted an all-new gun to present to law enforcement officials
Springfield immediately turned its attention to the concealed-carry market with today’s gun
Designed to be similar in size to other compact pistols
the Echelon Compact has some familiar dimensions: barrel length is 4 inches
height is 5.125 inches and weight is 24 ounces with an empty magazine
a flush-fit 15-round mag and a slightly extended 18-round magazine
this puts the Echelon Compact squarely in the same category as popular pistols like the Glock G19
It’s a size that’s not too hard to conceal and is moderately easy to shoot
Add in the modularity of the Echelon grip frame – with different frame sizes and backstraps to fit it to the shooter’s hand – and it’s equally at home on the range as it is in the holster
Springfield Armory’s excellent optics-mounting system
is also present on the slide to attach a wide variety of red-dot sights if desired
This system uses two sets of screw holes drilled into the slide and a variety of removable pins to match the footprint of more than two dozen different models of powered optics
optics sit as low as possible on the slide and allow co-witnessing with the standard sights
It’s an intuitive setup that allows a wide variety of options while still being relatively simple and is one of the cleverest multi-optic systems I’ve seen
Need more encouragement to check out the Echelon Compact
How about a completely ambidextrous set up
where the magazine release works for both right- and left-handed shooters without needing to take anything apart
Also mirrored on both sides of the pistol are the slide-release levers
and texturing for the either the support hand thumb or the trigger finger when not shooting is duplicated on both sides
Add in the Central Operating Group that is the serialized component
and you can swap out various grip-frame sizes for an even more precise fit
There are plenty of reasons to give this Compact a try
To carry the new Echelon Compact, we’ve opted for Safariland’s excellent IncogX holster carried in the appendix position
Designed with input from Travis Haley of Haley Strategic Partners
the IncogX is purpose-built for concealed carry with a microfiber-suede-wrapped Boltaron body
strut shims to aid in concealment and a generous sight channel to accommodate taller front sights
The IncogX is also quite modular: it’s constructed to facilitate carry in both the appendix position as well as in the standard 4 o’clock strong-side location
The belt clips allow the holster to be covered by a tucked shirt for deep concealment and there’s an optional magazine carrier that can be attached to the rig
There are even models to accommodate mounted lights
making it a great match for the Echelon Compact
Accessory: Nightstick USB Rechargeable EDC Flashlight (MSRP: $79.92)
Best of all, it follows one of the better recent trends in handheld flashlights: it recharges via a USB-C charging cable, which comes included with the light. While it does mean that once the light runs out of charge, it will take some time to get it up and running, the upside is there’s no need to search for batteries of any type or worry about bringing spares along wherever you might be. The aluminum housing is also IPX7 rated for water- and impact-resistance.
The armed citizen needs to know more than just defensive tactics and how to shoot.
Carry your pocket pistol on your waistband.
A folding blade designed for everyday use.
Last year saw the most mergers and acquisitions in the wealth management space of any year on record, according to a report from RIA investment bank Echelon Partners.
The 366 transactions Echelon clocked in 2024 surpassed the 2023 total of 321 and represented a compounded annual growth rate of 12.5% since 2019. Amid a positive macroeconomic backdrop, private equity investment rebounded last year and has set the stage for further deal activity in the space, according to the Echelon report.
In addition to the annual record, the fourth quarter of 2024 saw deal volume reach new heights as well. Echelon recorded 125 transactions, a quarterly record and a change of nearly 69% from the third quarter of 2024.
Wealth managers last year completed a record 366 M&A transactions, even as average assets per deal fell slightly year-over-year to $1.4bn, according to an RIA deal report from investment bank Echelon Partners.
The former figure represents an all-time high for the RIA industry and was driven by the 125 deals announced in the fourth quarter, which itself was an all-time quarterly high. This compared to 99 deals in Q4 of 2021, the second-highest quarter in terms of volume.
At the same time, Echelon reported that average assets per deal in 2024 dipped to its lowest level since 2018, due to a large share of smaller transactions and a decline in the number of deals in the $10bn to $20bn range of assets under management.
Texas.Echelon Supply and ServiceUpstate New York industrial product and hydraulic hose distributor Echelon Supply and Service announced Tuesday that it has promoted Executive Vice President and CFO Matthew DeKay to company president
DeKay has been with Echelon for 13 years
and company officials said he particularly helped guide the company's "important changes" over the past year
including improvements to key systems and in the business' profitability
“Matt has proven to be a thoughtful and effective leader during a critical time for Echelon,” Bob Hund
customer success and team collaboration positions Echelon for a strong and sustainable future.”
“I’m honored to step into this role and continue building on Echelon’s legacy of reliability and customer-first service,” DeKay said
“Our vision is to be the industry’s first call for dependable hose solutions
and I’m excited to work with our team to deliver the best hose solution and to always make it right — every time.”
Echelon ranked no. 49 on ID's 2024 Big 50.
a leading supplier of connected fitness equipment
has kept innovation at the forefront of all its labors since its launch roughly eight years ago
It intends to do the same for the next eight — and all that come after.
“I believe we’ve done a good job of proving ourselves as a company who can make high quality products
with good design while also being innovative,” said Lou Lentine
Echelon has an array of products either out or set to come out that exemplify this attitude
The brand keeps a close ear to the ground regarding the needs of its commercial customers as well
there’s one — or several — pain points for operators that are alleviated.
Touching on a variety of sectors within the fitness industry in the process
Echelon is expanding its reach in accordance with its suite of products
Echelon’s latest innovation
supports arguably the hottest commodity in the fitness space today — strength training
The equipment does so in a new-age way as well
The equipment uses digital resistance rather than plates to form a consistent “pull” feeling.
chest or whatever exercise you’re doing,” said Lentine
We have 100 units and we hope to have those all pre-sold prior to our launch in January.”
The Cable Cross Over also comes with two servo monitors attached to it
isokinetic or elastic modes when conducting their workouts and also increase or decrease resistance by more specific amounts within sets.
This innovative machine will accommodate gyms
hospitality and multi-family industries as well
Without the banging plates that come with traditional cable crossover machines
Echelon’s version eliminates any unwanted noise
making it easy to integrate in such environments and a building block for similar products down the line.
“They love it because it makes no noise,” said Lentine
and we will be adding products in the line like that
also with a Smith Machine included as well in the future.”
“We’ve actually put the machines in a few gyms
including a gym here in Florida called Raw Fitness in Port St
It’s getting great feedback and that gym has a lot of hardcore fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders there.”
But even with the Cable Crossover generating buzz as Echelon’s newest marquee offering, nobody has forgotten about the brand’s “ultimate strength too,” the Strength Pro.
the Strength Pro uses digital resistance to ensure controlled and consistent exercise movements
It also carries connected fitness panels that make trainers available to help with instruction and workout customization
It continues to be welcomed into gyms and remote fitness environments with open arms.
“We’re seeing thousands of workouts every month being taken,” said Lentine
“The user can either take a workout with one of our instructors or they can build that workout with no instruction
We’re seeing the instruction workout being used very often.”
There’s also the Strength Home, a system designed to provide guided and customized workouts with easy-to-adjust resistance levels for individuals more distinctly interested in remote fitness. Although the Strength Home launched just a few weeks ago
Echelon is already planning on adding a handful of updates to it and the Strength Pro that promise to take the workout experience it facilitates to the next level
“We’re working on a couple more things,” Lentine said
We’re going to be creating workouts for specific gyms
so they’ll be only available for that gym
we are working on the ability for users to save the weight that they’ve done in prior workouts
as well as additional features that we’re working on.”
Echelon’s ability to keep a close pulse on fitness has led the brand into less traditional sectors of the industry as well. Weeks ago, Echelon launched ActiveMD
a subsidiary company with an online telehealth program that offers weight loss medications such as Ozempic
Mounjaro and Rybelsus to qualified individuals.
Exciting as this new enterprise is for Echelon
the brand is taking its first steps into the GLP-1 space responsibly
Echelon is committed to keeping the individuals turning to GLP-1s healthy in all regards
also supplying them with the necessary workout plans to counter the muscle loss that may come with GLP-1 usage.
“We understand that people are taking these GLP-1s so they’re losing muscle mass,” said Lentine
We’re trying to make it a better program for them than just buying a product on its own.”
Lentine also added that users will soon be able to get hormone therapy drugs
The brand is also excited to announce it will be offering partnership programs with gyms
allowing their members to order from myactivemd.com and the facility to receive a financial benefit
Echelon has wellness at the top of its agenda as well
Echelon reports that it will launch saunas in 2025 as well as a new chiller system to implement with its cold plunges
capable of creating ice on top of the plunge’s water.
“We’re excited to bring that to the market and think that’ll create a big buzz,” said Lentine
“We’re all in on the recovery and we think having this in our company really differentiates us from anyone else in the fitness product space.”
Be that as it may, the brand has no plans to stop adding chapters. Echelon has several new products on the way
certain to elevate the offerings of their already satisfied customers.
Echelon’s latest success story hails from out west
When The Ruby at Society apartments came knocking
looking to add connected fitness amenities to their residence that would differentiate themselves from the market
which just hit the market this past spring.
“With so many new developments in San Diego
the challenge was creating a memorable space the potential tenants would get excited to live there and use the fitness spaces,” said Advanced Exercise Design Consultant Erick Blaha
“We choose Echelon for their superior products and incredible connected/coaching experience.”
With The Ruby at Society apartments being a residential area rather than a staffed gym facility
adding machines equipped with personal training options was paramount
working with Blaha to meet with brands and learn exactly what they’re after
was crucial to this successful installation.
“We needed to bring a personal trainer approach to an unsupervised fitness amenity,” said Blaha
“The customer shared their challenges and goals
and we came up with a plan to offer several Echelon products.”
Within the multi-family and corporate wellness markets
Echelon thrives on partnerships with esteemed fitness equipment distributors like Advanced Exercise
with the Ruby at Society apartments being a shining example.
“Management and operations have shared with me that users feel like having their own
personal trainer right at their fitness center,” Blaha added
Already positioned as a leader in the interactive fitness equipment industry, Echelon is eager to take additional steps forward by launching several new products over the next few months. This new wave of offerings will be spearheaded by two new commercial treadmills, the Stride 10s Pro and the Stride Slat Pro.
and a revolutionary digital crossover trainer
It also has an extensive line of state-of-the-art
motor-based selectorized equipment waiting in the wings
This planned innovation stretches beyond the physical side of things for Echelon as well
The brand also aims to roll out several new technological concepts
including enhancements in user interface design
This UI update will not only feature Echelon’s live
on-demand and off-equipment classes but also introduce fresh content categories like virtual worlds
residents or employees are aiming to sweat it out
or simply be entertained,” said Echelon Territory Sales Manager Josh Voss
“We offer plug and play solutions to turn your fitness facility dreams to life

Echelon Fitness has partnered with University of Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel—a top prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft—to donate its fitness equipment to the upgraded athletic training facility at Mililani High School in Hawaii
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for April 22 and builds on Gabriel’s previous donations of jerseys and gear
I was shaped by a community that believed in me and supported my journey in football and in life,” Gabriel said
“Partnering with Echelon Fitness to enhance the athletic training room at Mililani High School is my way of giving back to the place that helped me become the person and athlete I am today.”
Gabriel noted that Echelon’s donation of high-quality fitness equipment will transform the space into a “more functional and inspiring environment for Mililani’s student-athletes.”
“This project is about honoring the legacy of Mililani High School while helping the next generation of student-athletes reach their goals,” he added. “I’m grateful to Echelon Fitness for sharing this vision and partnering with me to create opportunities for these young athletes to thrive.”
“At the heart of our mission is providing the tools and technology that empower individuals to reach their fitness goals, all while ensuring an engaging and motivating journey along the way,” Echelon Fitness CEO Lou Lentine said
“We’re thrilled to work closely with Dillon to inspire the next generation of athletes and fitness enthusiasts.”
In addition to serving student athletes, Echelon is preparing to launch a generative AI-powered fitness platform to deliver personalized workout experiences, following a new partnership with Amazon Web Services—a move that could boost gym member retention by at least 7%, according to early testing
