A 19-year-old Alamo woman died after she was ejected from the vehicle she was driving in an early Saturday morning rollover accident in Edinburg
One other woman was hospitalized in connection with the same rollover crash
The driver and her passenger — identified as Deidra Lyneth Arroyo and Tatiana Giselle Garcia
respectively — were both ejected from a 2009 GMC Yukon that rolled over near the intersection of Owassa and the southbound I-69C frontage roads Saturday at around 1:19 a.m
Arroyo succumbed from her injuries at the hospital
while Garcia was hospitalized with minor injuries
The Edinburg Police Department is investigating the crash
The Edinburg Police Department said a viral Facebook post concerning a missing officer is a nationwide hoax
which appeared to have originated from the Facebook group “Edinburg Fb Sales online,” claims a silver alert was issued for 27-year-old Carolyn Lynch after her vehicle was found with her daughter inside
A silver alert is used to locate missing older adults
according to the website for the North Central Texas Emergency Communications District
“This story is a nationwide hoax and has no truth to it,” the Edinburg Police Department said on social media
please do not share or spread misinformation
Let’s work together to keep our community informed with accurate and verified information.”
A Google search for “Carolyn Lynch missing” results in multiple news articles from different news outlets across the country calling similar posts a scam
ABC affiliate KAAL-TV in Minnesota said the posts appear to be a classic example of “engagement bait,” posts designed to get you to like
KAAL-TV said there are many ways to spot red flags in similar Facebook posts.
a quick Google search reveals no reports of a missing officer named Carolyn Lynch from any credible news source
the posts often originate from newly created Facebook profiles,” KAAL-TV said
“Another key indicator is that the comments sections are often closed
preventing people from calling out the hoax.”
KAAL-TV said the purpose of the scam seems to target those who share the posts to hit them with more dangerous scams or phishing attempts later
Police in Edinburg are issuing a warning about a hoax currently making the rounds on social media
The post says an alert was issued for 27-year-old police officer Carolyn Lynch after her daughter was found alone inside a vehicle
The police department says the post is part of a nationwide hoax and should be ignored
Reports indicate the hoax may be part of a scam that attempts to target social media users who share information without checking its accuracy

The Department of Drawings and Prints boasts more than one million drawings
and illustrated books made in Europe and the Americas from around 1400 to the present day
Because of their number and sensitivity to light
the works can only be exhibited for a limited period and are usually housed in on-site storage facilities
To highlight the vast range of works on paper
the department organizes four rotations a year in the Robert Wood Johnson
Each installation is the product of a collaboration among curators and consists of up to 100 objects grouped by artist
the Museum received a remarkable gift from JoAnn Edinburg Pinkowitz of some three hundred prints by Mexican and other (mainly American) artists who worked in Mexico
This gift builds on JoAnn’s earlier donation of twentieth-century Chinese prints of the modern woodcut movement
JoAnn was raised in a family passionate about collecting art
she volunteered in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Museum of Fine Arts
She began collecting prints in 2009 after being inspired by the museum's exhibition Vida y Drama: Modern Mexican Prints
JoAnn was attracted to art that had a strong social and political message
Many of the prints on view were published by the Taller de Gráfica Popular (Workshop of Popular Graphic Art)
a printmaking collective founded in 1937 in Mexico City “with the aim of stimulating graphic arts production in the interests of the Mexican people.” In the 1950s
artists from the workshop traveled to China
where they introduced their work to local artists
Artists from both countries treated similar subjects
and this spurred JoAnn to give Chinese prints to The Met
The Pinkowitz material dovetails perfectly with The Met’s outstanding collection of Mexican prints and includes works by artists not previously represented
Prints by American artists in Mexico and mid-century Chinese artists also deepen our appreciation of traditions of democratic printmaking

The hotel was sold earlier this month to a company based in Austin
Driving near Highway 281 and Closner Boulevard
drivers will see a four-story building with big white letters
"It's been a staple in the Edinburg community forever and ever," Edinburg Rotary Club President Manuel Cantu said
The Edinburg hotel first opened its doors on March 15
it was the city's center for social events
"Now the hotel is going to have a new chapter," Echo Hotel former General Manager and part owner Stephen Reynolds said
He sold the hotel on April 10 to Zoho Corporation

County records show the deed was transferred from Reynolds five days later
Reynolds spoke with Channel 5 News about why he decided to sell the hotel after running it for over 36 years
and it's very expensive to do something like that," Reynolds said
Reynolds did not reveal the price tag of the sale
but records from the Appraisal District show the market value of the hotel is a little over $1.8 million
There are now several cones blocking the entrance of the Echo Hotel
and the front door is chained up with a sign that says it is closed
Reynolds says the new company plans to keep the hotel closed for a year
"They are going to take a year to renovate the property," Reynolds said
they told me they are going to keep the name Echo."
Historian and Museum of South Texas CEO Francisco Guajardo hopes the history of the hotel is preserved
they would be wise to hold on to the story
because if they erase the story I think the community will feel less than," Guajardo said
Guajardo says building the hotel was a community project over 900 people invested in
It's opening day made it on to local newspapers at the time
but at the core of it was that this was the center of community life," Guajardo said
Cantu knows first hand the vital role it played in the community
The Edinburg Rotary Club met in the hotel for over 30 years
with many generations passing through its doors
you think of the folks that have come before us
Now he and others who created priceless memories in the hotel are coming to terms with the change
over the years it's bittersweet," Cantu said
Channel 5 News reached out to Zoho Corporation several times
asking if the building would be demolished and what the company's plans are for the property
They did not respond in time for this story
