A mental health practice has leased nearly 4,500 square feet of office space in Elmwood Park
adding to the tenant roster at a building owned by Alfred Sanzari Enterprises
provides Redefining Counseling with a downtown location that’s minutes from Interstate 80
as well as bus service and nearby retailers
That helped lure the practice to the four-story
68,000-square-foot building known as Elmwood Park Plaza from its prior location in Rochelle Park
“Mental health isn’t one-size-fits-all — people experience it in such different ways,” said Teran Chartier
clinical director at Redefining Counseling
“That’s why we prioritize building meaningful relationships with our clients and creating personalized treatment plans that truly reflect who they are
We’re so excited to grow into our new home at Elmwood Park Plaza and continue walking alongside our Bergen County community — and beyond — on their healing journeys.”
Conor Ryan and Max Troast represented Sanzari in the 4,491-square-foot lease
the landlord noted that Redefining Counseling is a trauma-informed mental health practice dedicated to creating a safe
welcoming and inclusive space for individuals
whose team offers a wide range of evidence-based services to support the unique needs of each client
we’re continuing to see healthcare providers have difficulty finding space that suits their individual needs,” said Carolina Gutierrez
manager of leasing and marketing at Alfred Sanzari Enterprises
“Our tenant-first approach ensures that the organizations who call our buildings home have everything they need to provide their patients and staff with a welcoming and comfortable environment.”

Three Democrats are seeking to fill an open Assembly seat in the Paterson-anchored district
A group of Elmwood Park officials endorsed a trio of party-backed legislative candidates on Wednesday
Elmwood Park Democratic Municipal Chairwoman Sandra Balistrieri
and Councilman Francesco Fasolo endorsed State Sen
and Passaic County Commissioner Orlando Cruz
Wimberly does not face a primary challenge in the special election for the 35th district’s Senate seat. Wimberly, formerly an Assemblyman, won a special convention in January to ascend to the Senate
That convention was needed to replace the now-Rep
In the special convention, Wimberly defeated fellow Assemblymember Shavonda Sumter (D-Paterson) by one vote, and Sumter later announced she would not seek re-election to the Assembly
Al and Orlando will best represent us in Trenton to fight for middle-class taxpayers and defend our Democratic values,” the Elmwood Park Democrats said
“While Elmwood Park is a smaller part of the legislative district
Paterson accounts for most of the 35th legislative district’s voters
Abdelaziz was selected for the Assembly to replace Wimberly in the lower chamber. Cruz quickly became a leading party-backed candidate to succeed Sumter after her announcement that she would not return
Abdelaziz and Cruz face a pair of primary challengers: Kenyatta Stewart, the Newark Corporation Counsel and an ally of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, and former Garfield Councilman Romi Herrera
running on Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop’s slate of Assembly candidates
Most Paterson councilmembers endorsed Wimberly

DU student Damian Pereson-Estrada fell short Tuesday
In the six-person race for three open seats in the Elmwood Park School board
“I don’t know if I would’ve done anything differently.”
Over the past few months, Pereson-Estrada had campaigned by going door-to-door, attended events such as the Elmwood Park Candidate Forum
Pereson-Estrada does believe that a lot of people know and recognize him now
He believes that if the voters were more informed about candidates and relied less on endorsement recognition
then the outcome could’ve been a lot more different
“I feel like I was the most qualified candidate,” he said
“I think that if the public was more informed about these candidates
Pereson-Estrada ran for Elmwood Park School Board because he believed
that the school could have improved its safety
Low Hispanic representation is still a big concern for Pereson-Estrada. In 2024, 59% of EPHS students were Hispanic and during that time there was only one Hispanic member on the board
Rivera had dropped out of reelection and after the 2025 election
the school board now has zero Hispanic representation
Pereson-Estrada stated he is going to run for school board again in 2027 when there are four seats up for grabs
He still will aim to become a strong Hispanic presence on the school board when he runs again in two years

Pereson-Estrada has voiced concern about Rivera’s role
Pereson-Estrada aims to be a better role model and representative for the Hispanic community by showing students that Hispanics like Pereson-Estrada can make it to these positions in society
he hopes to improve the community for everyone if he wins the school board election
One of Pereson-Estrada’s main concerns is safety
After a gun-related incident during his senior year at Elmwood Park High School
People questioned why the school was never put in lockdown
said Elmwood didn’t call for a lockdown because it would have been harder to track down the suspect
Pereson-Estrada led protests with both students and faculty to voice their concerns about the school administrators for the way they handled the incident
He said every administrator quit except for the superintendent
He wants to make the board more diversified and progressive as he believes his youth could help bring in fresh ideas

who taught Pereson-Estrada in Introduction to American Government
said he is really “passionate about politics.”
“He probably talked to me after class for hours on multiple occasions
“I think we don’t have enough of that in politics.”
Another concern for Pereson-Estrada is the lack of endorsement from the Mayor of Elmwood Park
there’s little meaning to endorsements,” Dolence said
“They’re kind of like high school prom elections; it’s [about] popularity.”
Pereson-Estrada plans to run again and still aims to help out the community in any way he can

PA — Elmwood Park Zoo's newest resident has arrived
and officials are hopeful she will mark the beginning of a new generation of her kind at the Norristown zoo for years to come
has made her debut in the zoo's Trail of the Jaguar
An ocelot is a medium sized wild cat about two times larger than an average house cat
While their range once covered much of the desert southwest in the United States
they now have only a tiny fractured range in in west Texas and northern Mexico
Their range also extends throughout all of South America
they are in decline as their range continues to shrink
Elmwood says they plan on slowing introducing Rio to their other ocelot
"Our careful matchmaking will hopefully result in future Ocelot kittens," the zoo shared in a statement
Watch Rio explore her new habitat here.
A driver was extricated from her vehicle in what witnesses described as a serious wreck that closed a busy roadway in Elmwood Park Wednesday afternoon
Firefighters free a Jeep driver in a serious crash in Elmwood Park
Loving shared photos of the crash involving a black Jeep and white Buick SUV on Broadway around 2:45 p.m
Firefighters worked for at least 30 minutes to free the Jeep driver
Elmwood Park police contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit for possible assistance with investigating the incident
Families across Montgomery County can now visit the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown and receive half-price admission through the remainder of 2025
Senior leadership with the Norristown Zoological Society
announced the new offer for Montgomery County residents during a media event on Wednesday
Joining zoo officials for the announcement were the zoo's board of directors
Generous contributions from the late Frank Engro
The Engros' support also helped the zoo build and open the state-of-the-art Frank and Paige Engro Veterinary Health Center and a new welcome center on the property in 2024
According to the Patch of Norristown
completion of the animal hospital and welcome center represents only one stage of a proposed three-phase redevelopment that could bring several changes to the Elmwood Park Zoo
The zoo is partnering with the municipality of Norristown on plans to develop new wildlife exhibits
including building a bridge over Stony Creek to permit easier visitor access to open spaces on other parts of the zoo's property

Philly fans have a special place in their heart for homegrown players
Some of our favorite players ever came from other teams
but the guys who started their careers in Philly
who we saw go from rookies to superstars in front of our eyes
But who are the best homegrown Phillies in team history
We are not talking about players born in Philly. If you want the best baseball players ever who grew up in the local area, we already have you covered here
This list is for the guys who started their careers as members of the Phillies
Unfortunately, that leaves a lot of guys off the list. Steve Carlton is a legend, but he did not start his career in Philly. Bryce Harper is one of the best hitters we have ever seen. But he signed here as a free agent. The same goes for guys like Zack Wheeler, Cliff Lee
If you want a list of the best Phillies who came here via free agency or trade
Related: The All-Time Roster Of Phillies Players Acquired In Free Agency
a few positions that exposed just how bad the Phillies have been at acquiring amateur talent in their history
But there are some truly great players who got their start here
So who is the best left fielder to come up through the Phillies system
We picked the best players from each position
This was tough between Darren Daulton and Carlos Ruiz
but Ruiz was better behind the plate and accomplished more in his time here
There are a few catchers better at the plate than him
but none can touch what he accomplished behind it
he was part of the greatest commercial ever
Over a 5-year period few players were more terrifying at the plate than him
So his career numbers look less impressive than they should
But Howard is one of the best hitters in Phillies history
and who by the end of his career played more at 1st than anywhere else
And I think I'd pick Howard over him even if he did play 1st here
just for the sheer impact of Howard’s prime years.
The Infield is going to be way too obvious for these choices
It is debatable if Utley is the best player of the bunch from those late 2000s Phillies teams
But Utley is far and away the best second basemen in Phillies history
The next guy down would probably be Juan Samuel
But he doesn’t come close to touching what Utley did
Utley had a pretty good debut in the Hall of Fame vote this year
It gives him a decent chance to be the one member from that 2008 team to get into the Hall of Fame
People who look at spreadsheets instead of baseball games are going to keep him out of the Hall of Fame
Jimmy Rollins is one of the greatest Phillies players ever
arguably the 2nd best shortstop of his era behind Derek Jeter
and among the most fun players to watch on a baseball field
Jimmy Rollins was a damn good baseball player who gets overlooked for some reason
Mike Schmidt is not just the greatest Phillies player ever
and the MVP of the Phillies first ever World Series
There are other great Phillies 3rd Basemen
Both were tremendous players for the Phillies
even if the teams they were on weren't so great at times
But neither comes close to touching the greatness of Schmidt
another position where there is some competition
I find it hard to put Del Ennis on here when not even my father got to see him play
at least when there are more modern players who are just as good of options
and there are plenty of people I can talk to who watched Luzinski play
It might be understated just how good he was for them in the 70s
He was a bit past his prime by the time they won the World Series
But he finished 2nd in the MVP race in 1977
and won’t argue with anyone who puts him here instead
Centerfield was another one without much debate
They have one homegrown Center Fielder in the Hall Of Fame
But he is a .300 career hitter who got on base nearly 40% of the time
There is also the fact the Phillies dont have very many other homegrown centerfielders who rose to greatness
You'd have to go back to the 1800s to find another name even worthy of mentioning
The history of homegrown right fielders for the Phillies is as bleak as centerfield was
All the notable right-fielders you can think of from recent history started somewhere else
There is not even much footage of his playing days
But he won a triple crown and hit over 300 career HRs
He is also in the Hall of Fame and hit over .300 with over 300 HRs
Kleinm is also one of a few players to hit 4 HRs in one game
It just feels disappointing to include someone on the list pretty much no one reading this will have seen play
But he was the obvious choice here given the next best option was from the 1800s
Leaving Robin Roberts and Ferguson Jenkins the only homegrown pitchers from the Phillies to make the Hall of Fame
But Jenkins only pitched two seasons here. So Robin Roberts was the obvious choice to be the Ace of this staff
Pitching with Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee makes us forget how amazing Cole Hamels actually was
the Phillies would not have won their second World Series
and should arguably be held up there with Jimmy Rollins
Mostly because the current team has little in the way of homegrown talent
Everyone except Nola is way too early in their career to be worthy of a place on this list
Nola is one of two homegrown All-Stars in the past decade
But he is still easily among the best pitchers drafted by the team
I'd have to go back to the 1800s to find a better pitcher than him or Hamels
He will likely pitch his entire career in Philly
He may end up holding a lot of franchise records
And he can always be counted on to take the ball
I am not just putting him here because he is my co-worker
Nor am I putting him here because I have to see how hard he still throws balls when he whizzes a Nerf ball down the hall and past my head during every commercial break
He genuinely is the best reliever who came up as part of the Phillies
and Steve Bedrosian all started their careers elsewhere
Not only is Ricky the best RP who came up through the system
At least not among people who eventually got a chance to close
and the guy many people would agree is the greatest hitter in MLB history
has a slash line of .091/.231/.182/.413 against Ricky
