The sleuthing teen heroine Enola Holmes is returning to Netflix, with production officially underway for the third installment of the mystery-adventure film series. Millie Bobby Brown is back in the title role, joined once more by Henry Cavill as the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes.
The film continues the franchise's expansion of the Holmes universe through the perspective of Sherlock's younger sister, a character introduced in Nancy Springer's popular book series.
While Netflix has not yet announced a formal release date, filming for Enola Holmes 3 is already in progress. Philip Barantini, who previously worked on the immensely popular Netflix series Adolescence, will be directing, taking over from Harry Bradbeer who directed the first two films, according to Variety. Screenwriter Jack Thorne will also rejoin for the third installment and take cues from The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer.
The first two Enola Holmes films, released in 2020 and 2022, were well-received for their blend of period intrigue and youthful wit. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film franchise is one of Netflix's most successful. The second installment made it to the top 10 list in more than 93 countries following its release.
Now, Netflix has greenlit a third, continuing the evolution of Enola's journey from curious teenager to independent investigator. According to the streaming service's website, Tudum, "personal and professional dreams collide in a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before."

Ya... that's going to be a tough sell after all the cosmetic surgery. Bimbo Holmes 3 maybe? Don't forget Season 5 of Stranger Bimbos as well. Or tune into season 2 of Adam's family Bimbos with with Wednesday, or heck enjoy season 4 and 5 of the boys, for another Bimbofacation of yet another of our favourite characters.
These poor girls. Imagine being stunning, truly naturally stunning, having the world at your finger tips and then just dunking your head in vat of acid \"because\". Aging yourself 25 years in day, and then living the next 70 years with the consequences. You go girls! You really showed that patriarchy who's boss. And ladies, those lips aren't big enough. They need to second as a floatation device at the very least. So go get your bike tire pump and get pumping.
This is my genuine response: \"theres an enola Holmes 2?\"
Seriously, did paying Netflix subscribers ask for this?

I feel like there was some watershed moment in 2019 that we all had the opportunity to do something right that day. Then somebody decided to eat an infected bat and now we’re on this worst-case scenario tangent in time.
Yes, I’m implying an Adam/Eve allegory with this post! In the other timeline, Stranger Things had a much better third season and the cast didn’t turn onto Young Hollywood stereotypes years later.
No one wanted 1 of these movies let alone 3.
Obviously people must be watching these, or Netflix wouldn't keep making them.

Filming is underway on Philip Barantini’s Enola Holmes 3 in the UK for Netflix
The third instalment of the Sherlock Holmes spin-off film franchise is shooting at Shepperton Studios before moving to Malta for the final few weeks
Millie Bobby Brown stars as the titular character
and also produces the feature via her production company PCMA Productions.
Plot details are under wraps but it will reportedly be a darker iteration than the previous two instalments
Unconfirmed returning cast include Henry Cavill
It marks Barantini’s second collaboration with Netflix following the hit series Adolescence.
Enola Holmes 2 was also filmed at Shepperton while the original 2020 title shot at Pinewood Studios
and Alex Garcia are producing Enola Holmes 3 via Legendary Entertainment
Some details in this story came from Screen’s sister site The Knowledge.
The posting on Trump’s Truth Social platform is sending shockwaves around the world

The film is the first from David Kosse’s Rockwood Pictures

Enola Holmes 3 is officially underway, with the third film now in production. Millie Bobby Brown returns as the brilliant younger sister of Sherlock Holmes — this time taking her sleuthing skills overseas to Malta
while also navigating her blossoming relationship with Tewkesbury
The film is directed by Philip Barantini, best known for his one-shot thriller Adolescence, with a screenplay by Jack Thorne, who also wrote the first two Enola Holmes films based on Nancy Springer’s beloved book series. Fan-favorite cast members are back, including Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes
Enola Holmes is back on the case
as filming for the third installment in the ongoing franchise has commenced in Malta
One of the streaming service's more dependable hits of the 2020s
the adaptations of Nancy Springer's middle-grade children's books first debuted on Netflix during the pandemic
Pictures sold the film rights rather than try to hold out until theaters reopened
as the main stars of the film are all best known for starring in other topline hits from the streaming service and has gone on to become one of its flagship movie titles
Springer's novels are Sherlock Holmes stories for the modern
starring Sherlock's heretofore unmentioned younger sister
A 14-year-old boarding school attendee who initially runs away to solve the mystery of her mother's disappearance
Enola currently stars in ten books and counting
which trace her journey from 14 year old truant to a young lady who livs in her own boarding house just like her brother
with a detective consultancy and mysteries that are solved by knowing things about the world of women in the late Victorian era
However, the delays between films have been a little rough, especially for Brown, who remained committed to Stranger Things despite mounting delays in filming the final two seasons
Stranger Things may still be trying to pretend Brown isn't a day over 16
and the film franchise has done a speed run through Springer's books
jumping to the later ones where Enola is a young adult heading out on her own by the second film
The third film has an entirely new plot that
does not seem to connect back to the Springer books
instead taking the movies in their own direction
The third film's logline doesn't have a lot of details:
Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta
where personal and professional dreams collide in a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before
Netflix has not confirmed the returns of Sam Claflin as the elder and less absolute unit-sized Mycroft
Brown once again executive produces with father Bobby Brown
husband Jake Bongiovi & Isobel Richards for PCMA

so there's one success prepping to hit Netflix soon
Brown continues to be one of Netflix's most prominent breakout celebrities
partly due to her ongoing work in Stranger Things but more because of how savvy she's become as a producer
She followed the example set by Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman: if the roles you want do not exist
go to option works that have them and produce them yourselves
it's been about creating works with meaty roles for women over 40; for Brown
securing the rights to projects she wants to star in
and staying true to her British sensibilities.
but this seems like a massive upgrade for Brown's franchise
Enola Holmes 3 has not announced its cast yet
so it's a safe assumption she will once again co-star alongside an A-list team
The rest of the Sherlock family has thus far been played by Henry Cavill as Absolute Unit Sherlock
Sam Claflin as the elder and less absolute unit-sized Mycroft
and Helena Bonham Carter as the Holmes matriarch
The film is also expected to bring back Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade
Filming for Enola Holmes 3 is expected to get underway in the coming weeks now that Brown has completed filming the final season of Stranger Things

"Enola Holmes 3" is officially on the way at Netflix
The streamer as announced that production is now underway for the third installment of the popular mystery series starring everyone's favorite teen detective
Henry Cavill is returning as legendary detective (and Enola's brother) Sherlock Holmes
as is Helena Bonham Carter as the pair's mother Eudoria Holmes

this latest adventure finds Enola far from the familiar streets of Victorian London
a new destination for a case that's more twisted than any Enola has encountered before
Louis Partridge will also reprise his role as Lord Tewkesbury
alongside Sharon Duncan-Brewster as the movie's Moriarty
Netflix's official description for the new adventure reads: "Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta
where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before."
"Adolescence" director Philip Barantini is taking the reins from Harry Bradbeer for this entry
with Jack Thorne staying on board as screenwriter
appreciated through the massive success of the psychological crime drama
might end up bringing some new elements to the "Holmes" films
especially as Enola is heading out to be much further from home than usual
While Netflix hasn't revealed exactly when we can expect to see "Enola Holmes 3" hit our screens
That means it may not be out of the question to see "Enola Holmes 3" on the streamer as of 2026 or 2027
When "Enola Holmes 2" debuted in November 2022, it quickly shot to the top of the Netflix Top 10 list in s few short days, taking the No. 1 spot and settling comfortably there for some time
It followed the success of its predecessor
"Enola Holmes," which debuted in 2020 and reached 76 million households in its first four weeks
"Enola Holmes 2" currently boasts a strong 93% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes
slightly edging out the original’s still-impressive 91%
Given the film franchise's clear popularity
a third installment seems likely to follow in the footsteps of the first two
we’ll have to wait to find out exactly when it will debut — it appears to still be in the early stages

While plot specifics are being kept beyond the reach of even our prodigious skills of deduction for now, we do at least know who'll be joining Brown and Partridge in the upcoming movie. Henry Cavill is set to reprise the role of Sherlock Holmes alongside Himesh Patel as the consulting detective's ever loyal Dr. Watson, while Sharon Duncan Brewster's Mira Troy — aka Moriarty — is also set for a return here, as is Helena Bonham Carter as Enola's mother Eudoria Holmes.
We don't know precisely when we can expect Enola Holmes 3 to arrive on our screens, but while the first two movies were pleasant enough if ultimately flawed affairs, the unexpected presence of Philip Barantini and Jack Thorne at the helm of this third movie has us very intrigued indeed. Although, if you think about it, the duo's pairing on this does make a lot of sense: they've gone from Adolescence to elementary. Fine, fine, we'll see ourselves out...
