It was funny in the morning he and some of his co-workers would come in for morning coffee and the bantering that went on in there was great

— The Ettrick community is rallying behind a Chesterfield family who lost their home in a devastating house fire on Saturday
The family of five has close ties to Ettrick Elementary School
where Britney Mayton serves as the Vice President of the Parent Teacher Organization
“This is really a beloved family for the Ettrick Community,” said Ettrick Elementary principal Dr
They truly love Ettrick Elementary School.”
Mayton is a longtime parent/teacher advocate at the school and served as PTA president last year
and won the school’s spelling bee contest last January
When Smith heard about the fire at the family’s home on Woodpecker Road on Sunday morning

Investigators believe the blaze was caused by an electrical issue
“We have to do something right away and we have to fill the gaps to take some of the stress off the family because that’s what they would do for us,” Smith said
a teacher in training and Britney Mayton’s best friend
said she immediately started making phone calls
She says the experience has been overwhelming for the family
Britney drove O’Riya back to school on Monday morning
I looked at her and said ‘Your community has got your back
As much as you do for the Ettrick community
they’re going to take care of you,'" Stephenson said
Stephenson and PTO President Kyrie Jones say they’ve arranged a meal train for the family
and Venmo and Cash App accounts to help the Maytons get back on their feet
and those kinds of things and Christmas gifts for the girls,” Jones said
so those gift cards and donations are going to help them rebuild.”
Britney Mayton tells CBS 6 that her family is overwhelmed with the support they are receiving from their Ettrick Elementary family and O’Riya’s FAME All-Stars cheer team
“The entire gym is rallying behind us as well
We are so blessed and grateful for our Ettrick community and our cheer FAMEily,” Mayton said
“Our loved ones and even people we’ve never met have reached out in some way
With the Thanksgiving and holiday season approaching
those who know and love the Mayton family say they’re hoping to ease the burden
the family is remaining optimistic and upbeat
“All three of those little girls are so full of joy and full of life and smiles,” Stephenson said

and a beloved hound dog and farming companion
When he wasn’t farming or helping other farmers around the community
Kyle epitomized what it meant to be a devoted member of a close-knit community
he either knew or knew of almost everyone in the G-E-T area
He connected with people naturally and genuinely
Kyle had the gift of making people feel seen and heard—that what they had to say was important
While he enjoyed occasional travel and seeing other parts of the country
he was happiest at home giving his kids rides in the tractor and introducing them to all the magical aspects of growing up on a farm
Kyle is survived by his parents Larry and Doris Dahl
grandmothers Phyllis Dahl and Marie Wilber
mother and father in-law Jeanne and Doug Woestman
He is preceded in death by his grandfathers
A celebration of life will take place from 1 to 4 p.m
“Kyle had the gift of making people feel seen and heard—that what they had to say was important.” Perfectly said
My thoughts are with the family and the people who knew him

I did not know Kyle personally but I used to work with his grandma Phyllis at Northern Engraving years ago
I can’t even begin to imagine your pain now or in the days ahead
My deepest sympathy to all of Kyle’s family
I met Kyle for the first time about 10 years ago at the Ettrick Rod & Gun Club’s monthly meeting
he made me feel like he had known me for years
and encouraged me to come out to his family’s farm and hunt pheasants in the fall
My heart goes out to his entire extended family and his large network of friends

New indoor playgrounds are opening in the Midwestern region to meet the growing demand for family-friendly fun
focusing on young voters at two area colleges with this message: “We’re not going back.”
“This moment and this time require the best of our energies, the best of our efforts, the best of our talents to ensure that we do preserve the democratic constitutional republic,” state Rep. Justin Pearson told a group of Virginia State University students in an appearance at Ettrick Deli
the 29-year-old Pearson was the featured speaker for a dinner and rally for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov
Tim Walz coordinated by Virginia Democrats

Pearson focused on one of the common themes his party has followed – the possibility of reversing what they feel has been progress on economic and social fronts should GOP candidate and former president Donald Trump win back the White House
he focused on “Project 2025,” a governance blueprint from the conservative Heritage Foundation on what should occur under a conservative president
While Trump has taken public steps to distance himself from Project 2025
'This needs to be done': Frustration mounts over delay in bypass road to treatment plant
“We have people who have a version of America that’s only about taking us back,” Pearson said
“It’s all about taking us back to a time where injustice and inequity was the way that things operated in our country
There is “too much at stake” in the upcoming election
and that is why it is crucial for young voters to come out in droves for Harris
“We have to have people in positions of power who actually care about us,” Pearson said
The appearance at Ettrick Deli culminated a daylong sweep through the Petersburg area for Pearson
It began with meeting students at Richard Bland College
followed by similar on-campus meetings with VSU students

Most of the approximately 30 people on the porch were VSU students like 19-year-old Kristina Piercy of Henrico County
a sophomore political science major in VSU’s Honors College
said the biggest takeaway she had was “personability” from both Pearson and McClellan
“It was really great to see everyone here being present but also being open to hear everybody’s policies
eating good food and just being here in the moment,” Piercy said
Piercy said she appreciated his “enthusiasm” for facing the challenges that lie ahead
It is enthusiasm that she said rubbed off on her and is making her look forward to voting in her very first presidential election
Piercy said that to her and her fellow first-time voters
While Harris checks all the boxes for that – the first woman of Black and Asian descent to lead a major-party ticket – Piercy said she admires Harris’ “advocacy and her drive

The 14-metre-long animal was resting in the shallow water and ocean traffic was asked to avoid the area.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue received a report of the mammal in Ettrick Bay near the Isle of Bute on March 8.
The 14-metre-long animal was resting in the shallow water, and ocean traffic was asked to avoid the area in an effort not to disturb the whale.
Plans were formulated in the event that the animal became fully stranded, however, it died of natural causes the following day.
Sperm whale strandings can be caused by malnutrition, illness, or injury, and they are not suitable to be refloated back to sea. The Firth of Clyde is too shallow to support the needs of a natural deep-diving sperm whale.
It is believed that the animal had swam from the south coast of Ireland to the Firth of Clyde, covering around 500km in two weeks.
The Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme is carrying out a necropsy to discover more about the whale and the reasons for its stranding.
