with the first leg of the biggest and most prestigious horse racing series in the world coming right up this Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville for the 151st "Run for the Roses." That also means it's high time for people to make their picks on which horse will win the race that's also referred to as the "fastest two minutes in sports."  Jimmy Fallon and some adorable creatures tried to help people make their Kentucky Derby decisions during "The Tonight Show."  A group of cute puppies was lined up for a mini-race each representing a horse that will be racing at the Derby A trumpeter even played the "Assembly of the Buglers" tune before Fallon instructed to "release the puppies." 3 puppy representing "Sandman" was deemed the winner of the race "Sandman will be crowned the 2025 Kentucky Derby champion," declared Fallon while holding the winning puppy It remains to be seen how Sandman will fare at the Derby but odds say that the 3-year-old colt has a good chance of winning the race.  According to the Kentucky Derby's official website Sandman is among the favorites at 6-1 to emerge victorious at Churchill Downs Brian Mems shows his Kentucky Derby hat Thurby at Churchill Downs in Louisville © Grace Hollars/The Courier-Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images who finished ninth in the 2004 edition of the Derby.  Trained by Mark E. McIlroy stepped out on the town wearing the Green Jacket, paired with a crisp white shirt with a button-down collar and a blue tie. “Welcome back to the show," Fallon said. "Look at that jacket!” “I told you I wouldn’t come back until I had this green jacket,” McIlroy replied, “so I’m glad I made it back. Fallon and McIlroy, who defeated Justin Rose with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff to become just the sixth male golfer in history to complete the career grand slam, enjoyed playful banter about McIlroy’s dream-come-true moment. “People keep coming up to me saying ‘Oh, you don’t know what you put us through that Sunday,” McIlroy said, “Well how do you think I was feeling!” McIlroy told Fallon that his Saturday night goal was to shoot 4-under in the final round and that, he admitted, should be good enough to win the Masters. Despite making double bogey on the first hole Sunday, he knew his initial objective was still achievable. He said in 2011 when he lost a four-shot lead at Augusta National he got caught up in “playing math” and looking around what everyone else was doing. This time, despite going on to shoot a 1-over 73 Sunday, he managed to stay more within himself. McIlroy revealed the one big congratulatory message he received after winning the Masters that was, perhaps, most impressive came from music icon Elton John. John’s assistant left McIlroy a voicemail saying John wanted to congratulate McIlroy in person – but the only problem is that the music legend doesn’t have a cell phone. “I didn’t even know that Elton John knew what golf was,” McIlroy said. McIlroy also spilled the emotional note Tiger Woods sent him after his Masters victory. “He just said, ‘welcome to the club, kid,’” McIlroy said. Fallon and McIlroy closed out their conversation with Fallon showing a clip of when McIlroy was a youngster appearing on television in Northern Ireland chipping into his mother’s washing machines at home. McIlroy and Fallon then did the same together with the Masters champion, of course, beating Fallon in a first-to-three challenge. McIlroy, who also appeared on "The Today Show" Friday morning, wasn’t just in the city for fun and games – he had some business to tend to as well. Announced Thursday morning, McIlroy’s investment firm, Symphony Ventures, teamed up with private equity firm TPG to start TPG Sports, “an investment fund that will place bets on businesses across the sports industry,” according to The New York Times. TPG manages more than $200 billion in assets. McIlroy is no stranger to off-course deals, as investments by Symphony Ventures include Puttery (an immersive mini-golf experience) as well as Golf Genius (golf tournament software platform). McIlroy was also one of the co-founders of TGL, which wrapped up its first season in March. “Sports is undergoing a big transformation,” McIlroy told The Times. “There is a lot of investment going into the sports world and trying to make it more professional — and trying to bring it into the 21st century.” McIlroy finished T12 alongside Shane Lowry in their title defense at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last week. He’s set to tee it up as the defending champion of the Truist Championship, which will move from Quail Hollow Club for one year to the Philadelphia Cricket Club as the Charlotte layout – where McIlroy has won four times in his career – will host the PGA Championship the week following. McIlroy has two other wins already this season on the PGA TOUR, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and THE PLAYERS Championship. He became just the third golfer in history to win THE PLAYERS and the Masters in the same season alongside Tiger Woods (2001) and Scottie Scheffler (2024). Copyright © 2025 PGA TOUR, Inc. The reigning Masters champion appeared on "The Tonight Show" with host Jimmy Fallon sporting his 38 regular green jacket Thursday night. McIlroy won the Masters on April 13 in a dramatic sudden-death playoff to win his first major in 11 years and complete the career Grand Slam. Fallon showed the famous clip of a young Rory chipping into his mom’s washing machine on an Irish talk show. "Since you’re a Masters winner now, I thought maybe it would be fun to go back to where it all started," Fallon said as he pulled out two wedges. "The washing machine. Are you up for this?" “Sure,” McIlroy said. “Absolutely. Let’s go.” The game was first to chip three balls into the washing machine off the carpet.  “Yes, as the Masters champion, I should not lose to you,” McIlroy said. “I’d never live it down,” McIlroy fired back. He proceeded to make his first shot into the washing machine but missed the second. “I was better at this when I was 8,” McIlroy said. But he made his next two shots to win the contest over Fallon, who made only one of his chips. McIlroy punched the air with his right fist to celebrate his victory.  You can see the clip here as well as see him reflect on his Masters victory.  Please enable JS and disable any ad blocker Northern Transmissions is a music website started for music lovers, by music lovers. Last year, he partnered with Beats by Dre for a signature set of headphones and put them head-to-head against Kim Kardashian’s design Now, The Tonight Show host is taking his business interests to a new level by becoming a brand partner and investor in tortilla chips and salsa brand Xochitl His first challenge is pretty basic: teach people how to pronounce the brand name they’ll probably give me other assignments.” Xochitl is America’s largest independent tortilla chip brand but it is still far lesser known than your grocery store staples on the tortilla chip shelf It’s looking to Fallon for a mainstream boost Chairman Matt Leeds says the goal here is to drive brand awareness and grow distribution Who better to do that than a guy with 32.4 million YouTube subscribers and 27.4 million Instagram followers “We believe that his involvement will create a lot of excitement which can open distribution opportunities and retail partnerships,” Leeds says and family-friendly persona aligns well with us and our brand strategy.” At times it can seem like you can’t swing an empty booze bottle without hitting a celebrity tequila or whiskey. And yes, even beer Fallon says he’s been offered similar opportunities in the past and I just don’t want to be out there boozing it up at the golf course and I have no problem selling this and standing behind it.” the strategy is as simple as it gets: Ask a very famous guy who seems fun to not only promote but be involved in the brand “The partnership with Jimmy grew out of a simple insight: Xochitl is hard to pronounce but easy to love,” Leeds says and Jimmy was literally our first and best idea for someone who could help teach people the Xochitl name in a way that’s fun And just so happened to have been eating Xochitl chips that weekend I actually know what you’re talking about!’ ” Fallon says He gave me this kind of rundown of where the business is and I thought this sounded like a fun opportunity and I’d love to help see something grow and become giant.” Financial details of the deal were not disclosed this is a unique opportunity to work with a brand that has very clear and ambitious objectives in mind “This has the chance and opportunity to really grow,” Fallon says then I’m just doing a commercial or something Before announcing the Fallon partnership, Xochitl had fewer than 5,000 Instagram followers. So there’s plenty of room to grow. Fallon is a self-described ad nerd and just wrapped production on a new advertising-based reality show for NBC that’s set to launch later this year Now it’s just a matter of taking everything he’s ever learned about advertising and marketing “They’re in select stores and some participating Walmarts but they’re not in Whole Foods or Target,” Fallon says I want to see if I can get them in every store in the country Xochitl is dropping its first-ever flavor collaboration with McCormick & Company’s Cholula hot sauce brand exclusively at more than 2,000 Walmart stores and it will roll out on Amazon and at grocers nationwide in the coming months Fallon has spent the last 16 years helping his celebrity guests plug their latest movies Now he’s excited to really be selling his own brand “One of my jobs at The Tonight Show is to always be selling everyone else’s stuff The final deadline for Fast Company’s Brands That Matter Awards is Friday, May 30, at 11:59 p.m. PT. saying that there’s an expected fireworks shortage for July 4th due to Trump’s tariffs look for a little more ohhing and little less ahhing.” Something about that very silly joke struck a chord with the Metro East cleared its final hurdle Monday night The O’Fallon City Council voted unanimously to pass seven ordinances and two resolutions all tied to the Park Place Development Project which city officials believe will be transformational for their town as it’s built over the next eight years “We just have to be patient as it's being developed,” said incoming Mayor Eric Van Hook “I wish it could be here a lot sooner than eight years but I'm excited for what it's going to provide to not only O'Fallon residents but to the people that visit our community and hopefully they'll see what we see in it.” located just across the street from the popular O’Fallon Family Sports Park in the northwest part of the city Those include a TopGolf-style driving range Rich Gorazd of State Construction and Michael Hamburg of Pier Property Group will develop the massive project that’s estimated to cost between $275 million and $300 million “We're bringing some things to O’Fallon that we don't have,” Gorazd said The developers have another six months of planning to do construction will start with the roads surrounding the development Construction of the buildings will begin in one year and the developers anticipate the remainder of the project will take five to seven years to be completed Park Place will have 50 single-family villas for those downsizing or nearing retirement and 429 multifamily units The original idea came over two years ago to build off the success of the nearby sports park, which attracted 1.5 million visitors last year Officials and developers said new housing is an essential piece to the puzzle “These apartments are going to capture the young professionals that we feel are fleeing our town after college and going to maybe a more vibrant city,” Gorazd said “We're trying to bring some of that vibrancy to O’Fallon to keep these young professionals.” The ordinances and resolutions approved by O’Fallon’s 14 City Council members allow the developers to annex property into the city amend the city’s zoning map for the various types of projects being built do a sound study for the driving range and create new taxes to help pay for the project The council voted to create a special business district which will allow the developers to administer an additional 1% sales tax on retail goods at Park Place Those taxes will be collected by the state and returned to the city which will then determine if the various infrastructure paid for by the developers can be reimbursed “That is a very common incentive,” he said the council passed a measure to create a 5% amusement tax for entertainment-type businesses at Park Place 4% will be used to help reimburse the developers for infrastructure costs and the remaining 1% will be used to cover administrative costs by the city Both the special business district and amusement tax are limited to $20 million or 23 years Both council members for Ward 3 voted in support of the various ordinances and resolutions Andrea Fohne and Roy Carney said they were initially hesitant about the project after hearing a number of concerns from their constituents The questions and criticisms included the noise and light level of the driving range and increased traffic The city’s traffic engineer conducted a study and recommended a new light extra turn lanes off Highway 50 and a roundabout be created before Park Place opens Fohne and Carney came to the conclusion that the project will help O’Fallon grow creating new housing is important because there's a lack of starter homes “This is going to give them a place to live and stay in O'Fallon,” Carney said “And I think that's definitely a plus because a city that quits growing starts dying.” Fohne describes herself as an O’Fallon historian she said there’s also been some concern about exciting projects “I think you have to take the broader view We're going to be really happy — and it'll be good.” O’Fallon’s action on the mixed-use project comes at a time when a handful of other Metro East cities have undertaken projects to create similar facilities or revitalize existing space John’s Men’s Basketball Team to Appear on NBC’s “The
