sampling key tracks from their six acclaimed albums it isn’t your typical “greatest hits” package Also finding space for a few unreleased gems Flatland Forever traces the contours of a remarkable roots music rise This Cavalry has ridden to the rescue of countless country fans pushing an indie ethos deep into the mainstream while retaining a self-contained spirit and the Forever project offers new listeners an easy way to get up to speed Their 10 years have seen Flatland gather 500 million streams and a Gold certification for the tender “A Life Where We Work Out,” while establishing their live-band cred alongside the genre’s best and brightest 2024 alone saw them score their first ACM Awards nomination (for Group of the Year) plus high-profile Hollywood placements in Yellowstone They also marked their first headlining shows at iconic venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Ryman Auditorium and they made a triumphant return to Texas on December 31 headlining Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena for the first time Then it’s on to the Flatland Forever Tour – kicking off February 7 in Atlanta – with a new setlist to match the album in scope and satisfaction It definitely seems like a good time to take stock of how far Flatland Cavalry has come and in a conversation with Good Country last month lead singer and songwriter Cleto Cordero does just that Breaking from a peaceful morning in Nashville which found him “sitting like a hippie or a cat and letting the sun hit me in the face just breathing,” Cordero explains where Flatland Forever came from and what it feels like to pass a true milestone Why don’t you start by telling me how you’re feeling these days This is definitely a milestone that most bands never even imagined they’ll reach It feels like a lot of hard work paying off and proof that persistence can get you where you aspire to go but you wake up one day and it’s like 10 years later and heck you’re walking in the dream that was just in your head 10 years ago It’s been ten years since the band started are you still feeling inspired by music making so it is challenging to find that zen where That’s why I’m sitting in the sun in my library I just listened to a meditation last night and it was a lecture by Neville Goddard and he’s talking about being still – it’s like the old biblical scripture “Be still know that I’m God.” I think as much as we move and shake and hustle and bustle that place where songs come from in my heart seems harder to hear So I have to seek that inspiration and try to convene with it every day Tell me a little bit about Flatland Forever and the idea behind this It seems like the key for you guys was to make it more than a greatest hits package The idea was initially brought to me by Matt Morris at Interscope Records And for someone that doesn’t know who Flatland is Maybe there’s a way we can put all the songs in one place on a compilation.” And as he was saying that I told him I had an idea for an album that I want to make one day called Flatland Forever “That’s literally what I envisioned it to be.” So his idea and mine kind of melded together and then I didn’t want it to just be stuff that we had already released I wanted to throw in some unreleased songs or stuff that we had recorded but never shared and it morphed into this smorgasbord of old and new As you went back through these older songs a [new] song called “Three Car Garage,” that’s something I could imagine myself writing last week or something … I think if you listen to the start of the album and then you make your way on to the very end it will be a journey hearing us evolve sonically and lyrically and all that stuff … But I wrote that one when I was in college and I had skipped class one day and I was just sitting in my garage I took a look around and the books I’d been reading at the time “write about what you know,” so I just took a look around and that’s literally the vantage point of me sitting in the garage But there’s also some other meaning to it as well change your point of view.” It captures a youthful spirit I’m glad it came out 10 years later – whenever we sing it Since the album covers the band’s whole history does it also kind of capture the spirit of a live show The good thing about having a lot of songs to play is you have a lot of variety but then we’ve been on this Wandering Star Tour and I really want to give those songs a chance the idea of Flatland Forever is this compilation thing so our next tour will be named after that and I feel like we can play anything from the vault in any order I can start off the show with “Sleeping Alone” or it can be totally different every night and any song What’s it feel like to get to go to Fort Worth to Dickies Arena and headline We’ve worked really hard for 10 years to get to a place where we can fill up a room with hopefully 10,000 people we played Fort Worth the last two years in a row two nights each at Billy Bob’s – which is like 5,000 people [each night] Our booking agent told me last New Year’s Eve it’s going to be at the arena.” And so this date has been a year in my brain It’s been the little lighthouse on the coast What can I apply to this big show on New Year’s Eve?” And hopefully I do envision that for us – to put on an arena show and take it everywhere “A Life Where We Work Out” is now Gold-certified because that song was written about a relationship that I had messed up Now it’s like a mistake I had made and how a mistake can turn into a Gold record is pretty ironic and kind of crazy But I don’t say that at the expense of the other person on the other end of that relationship I think God [or] the Universe has a sense of humor My favorite part of the record is what you guys end up doing with “Mornings With You.” Including the work tape and then also the fully fleshed-out version is really cool Are you trying to show fans something with that Yeah, so before a song gets recorded, there’s always a work tape cut first, or else we’ll forget it. … And no one ever gets to hear that. I just wanted to share that with the fans, and there’ll be a deluxe version of the record that comes out … It’ll have commentary about the work tapes and more acoustic versions and stuff I will just leave you with the big picture What do you hope your fans are going to take away from Flatland Forever LITTLE VALLEY — Breakout country and Americana band Flatland Cavalry will perform during this summer’s Cattaraugus County Fair Texas country stalwarts Flatland Cavalry announced on Instagram that they will embark on the “Flatland Forever Tour” in 2025 Fans can join the Humble Folks to get access to the Pre-Sale Support for the “Flatland Forever” tour includes fellow Texans the Wilder Blue and Tyler Halverson It’s slated to include both headlining dates and a few festival appearances The tour will kick off on February 7th in Atlanta and travel coast to coast before closing in Three Forks RELATED: Flatland Cavalry: A Ten-Year Retrospect The tour is named after Flatland’s recent legacy album, which featured a few new songs, including the instant fan-favorite “Three Car Garage.” It also included some work tapes from some of their songs, like their duet with Kaitlin Butts, “Mornings With You.” The rest of the album was a “greatest hits” album as it had all the fan favorites. Flatland Cavalry has stayed true to its sound throughout its 10-year career, and that consistency has led to its becoming one of the best groups in country music. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Flatland Cavalry (@flatlandcavalry) Beloved Texas-based country band Flatland Cavalry is set to release their highly-teased single, “Three Car Garage,” on October 11th. Known for their heartfelt lyrics and smooth blend of country and folk, the band has built a strong following with their unique sound that reflects both modern and traditional country influences. “Three Car Garage” offers a reflection on the highs and lows of life, blending upbeat melodies with poignant storytelling, a signature of Flatland Cavalry’s music. The band has performed the song several times this year, and it sounds like a return to form for the band, echoing back to the simpler, acoustic-led anthems of the Humble Folks era. “Three Car Garage” will be out everywhere on October 11th. good news for any and all old-school Flatland Cavalry fans the release of Flatland Cavalry’s latest album is a great place to start given it includes many new and unreleased tracks that span the band’s 13-year career was the inspiration behind creating this release “I received a phone call from our A&R rep at Interscope (Records) about this idea he had for bringing old Flatland Cavalry fans and folks that are just discovering us together,” Cordero explained The title of the album was inspired by an Omega watch Cordero says was gifted to him by Luke Combs during a tour they were both on last year The symbol Cordero was most impressed with resembles an upside down horseshoe he thought would make a great album cover “That’s not at all what I wanted to convey I found a way to combine two Omega symbols to create an infinity sign Flatland Forever contains select songs from the band’s entire catalog including several unreleased tracks that didn’t fit the theme of any of Flatland Cavalry’s previous discography “I just went through our whole catalog and selected four songs from each record that I thought would be a great way to show someone not familiar with our sound what we’re all about,” Cordero says “And this album helps to serve as a placeholder until we make our next album which we have time blocked out next spring."  Per the recording process for Flatland Cavalry Cordero says he usually goes into the studio with the songs fully fleshed out to save time and money After presenting the music to the rest of the band who besides Cordero and Albers consists of bassist Jonathan Saenz and pianist and jack-of-all-trades Adam Gallegos add their individual parts to create a cohesive song “Everyone's kind of at least familiar with the tunes maybe not necessarily knowing what they're going to play and all that kind of stuff but I kind of like that because it allows for creativity to really kind of happen when you haven't done something so many times that it's predictable,” he says I always love to hear what that sounds like.”   Some of the standout tracks on this fourth-coming album includes “Chasing the Feeling,” a song that talks about Flatland Cavalry’s early days of falling in love with playing live music in the bar scene in Lubbock “So that's one that the band did a fantastic job adding the music to it and it’s very Willie Nelson-esque and it's got a really interesting chord in there,” Cordero explains which is really just anomalous sounding and it kind of perpetuates the whole emotion of how you're always inching towards something else and the chords keep changing and you're like Another stand out track on this album Cordero says he’s happy is getting some recognition is a tune titled “Three Car Garage.”   “I've had this one in my back pocket for over 10 years I’m really grateful this one has a chance to see the light of day and it makes sense in context with this project and another kind of autobiographical tune of how we got started.”   This new comp album is being released on November 8th with a deluxe album version of Flatland Forever which will include more of the band’s work tapes and other extras this new compilation is a way for this band to reflect on its musical journey thus far before embarking on what could be considered its second act each of the band members lives far apart only meeting up for rehearsals or touring But no matter how many miles or album sales the band achieves their core sound and reason for jumping into the music game is still very much the same “It's a way of paying you back for giving the audience something that they didn't have,” Cordero says “I think bringing people together is really.. so I have so many memories of just birthday parties and just being there for each other and having fun and making a lot out of nothing And I think I find that same feeling as I've been away from my family Stephen Montoya is the Digital Editor for Fort Worth Magazine Solar Power World By | November 19 Salt River Project (SRP) and Flatland Storage a subsidiary of EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) have entered into an agreement to provide 200 MW of new energy storage to Arizona’s grid The Flatland Energy Storage Project will be a 200-MW/800-MWh battery energy storage system located near Coolidge The project will use Tesla lithium-ion battery energy storage systems the facility will have enough capacity to power up to 45,000 homes for four hours during peak electricity demand periods The batteries will absorb excess energy when customer demand is lower and store it for use during times of peak demand “Battery energy storage is an essential piece of SRP’s plan to decarbonize our portfolio and maximize the amount of renewable energy delivered to our customers,” said Bobby Olsen SRP associate general manager and chief planning This is SRP’s second project in partnership with EDPR NA. The first, Brittlebush Solar Park provides 200 MW of solar energy to SRP customers The Flatland Energy Storage Project is located within the Brittlebush Solar Park The location will allow the battery to store energy from the grid or from the solar facility to best match the output to times of highest customer demand “We’re excited to be partnering with SRP on the largest utility-scale storage project in the EDP Group’s global portfolio to date,” said Sandhya Ganapathy “Storage is key to modernizing the US power grid and is a requisite in accelerating the adoption of renewable energy while boosting grid reliability and resiliency.” Kelsey Misbrener is currently managing editor of Solar Power World and has been reporting on policy Copyright © 2025 WTWH Media LLC. It’s the new songs, though, the four fresh tunes – ‘Three Car Garage’, ‘Lubbock’ ‘Countryman’ and ‘Chasing a Feeling’ – peppered throughout the release In order to look forward to the next ten years multi-instrumentalist Adam Gallegos and Wesley Hall on fiddle – likely felt they had to something they do a lot of in Flatland Forever Even the new offerings are reflective and introspective as the group longs for simpler times, pondering the beautiful mundanity of ordinary days. Much like ‘Three Car Garage’, the bittersweet ‘Lubbock’ traces memories pulling on nostalgia like a well-worn coat as the band reminisces about home and the place that set them on their journey all those years ago the sharp and staunch ‘Countryman’ finds them just as unchanging in their beliefs sees them retrace their barroom beginnings – just kids playing seemingly inconsequential sets to incidental crowds – the byproduct of which is something they pursue even now more vibrant sounds and hint at a new era that’s just on the horizon While a project like Flatland Forever can seem unnecessary and perhaps a little premature for a band that only recently became a household name among today’s mainstream it’s an admirable endeavor as Flatland Cavalry honors how far they’ve come that it’s more about the journey rather than the destination VIEW NORTHWEST from the 1000 block of Fiske Street in Pacific Palisades toward the rapidly approaching fire just minutes after the mandatory evacuation order was issued Jan 7 to residents of the “Alphabet Streets” neighborhood The conflagrations of early January have been tragic for so many Southern California residents As of our press deadline for this February issue of the Larchmont Chronicle the areas south of the Hollywood Hills and east of the Westside have not seen such fires along our streets it’s probably safe to say that everyone in this part of town knows someone that are directly affected by the devastating fires in the Palisades Shock and sadness can be seen on the faces on Larchmont walkers as the smoke continues to linger long after the damage has been done to neighborhoods throughout the county But we also see hope and resilience in the eyes we meet and the friends we greet and the strangers we pass which tells us our neighbors to the west and the east will persevere A separate story on this page reports on some of the generous individuals and organizations that have stepped up to help The story cites opportunities available to those who also wish to assist Tags: , , , Category: News
