Proposed facility includes 410,000 square foot facility with 3,000 seat arena
an application has been submitted to the City of Folsom for state of the art sports complex within the Folsom Plan area
officially announced submission of their application for Folsom Ranch Sports Complex
The approximately 410,000-square-foot facility will be located on a nearly 21-acre site in south Folsom
The sports complex will include four components: a 3,000-seat arena with a National Hockey League-size ice sheet
and a covered and lit outdoor turf field,” according to the applicant’s plans
The facility will be designed to host tournaments
and public recreational activities for ice hockey
“We’re thrilled to reach this milestone in bringing a much-needed recreational facility to Folsom and the greater Sacramento region,” said Joe Wagoner
“The Folsom Ranch Sports Complex will not only fill the regional void for ice sports but also provide flexible spaces for a wide range of indoor and outdoor athletic events
from basketball and volleyball to lacrosse and soccer
Our vision is to create a venue that strengthens community bonds through sports
The sports complex will be able to accommodate multiple configurations for various sports and events
The design includes three NHL-size ice sheets
which can be divided into nine youth hockey rinks
the interior can host up to 24 volleyball courts or 27 youth basketball courts
The outdoor area will include approximately 145,000 square feet of space
including a 126,000-square-foot covered and lit outdoor turf field
the facility will offer approximately 20,000 square feet of medical treatment and office space
“We have been eagerly awaiting a formal application for the proposed Folsom Ranch Sports Complex,” said Folsom Mayor Sarah Aquino
“A facility of this scale could bring exciting new opportunities for recreation
While the concept still needs to go through the city’s thorough review process
we appreciate the developer’s investment in Folsom and look forward to learning more as the proposal moves forward.”
An early economic impact report projects the sports complex to generate substantial benefits for the city of Folsom
including the creation of hundreds of jobs and an estimated annual economic impact of over $23.7 million from retail
the facility is projected to serve more than 1.3 million visitors per year
“This project is a game-changer not just for tourism
but for our entire business community,” said Joe Gagliardi
which includes both the Folsom Chamber of Commerce and the Folsom Tourism Bureau
“The Folsom Ranch Sports Complex will drive new visitor spending
and open doors for local businesses to grow alongside the city’s expanding infrastructure
It reflects the kind of visionary development that supports both economic vitality and quality of life for our residents.”
Sacramento County is the largest county in the United States without a year-round ice facility
and there are no full ice sheets within a 30-minute drive of the project site
The sports complex aims to address this gap while supporting the growing popularity of ice sports in California
“Our local sports organizations have long advocated for additional high-quality facilities,” said Rich Francis
president of the Folsom Athletic Association
“The Folsom Ranch Sports Complex will dramatically expand opportunities for our youth and adult athletes alike
allowing us to host tournaments and competitions that were previously impossible in our area
Our association represents more than 15,000 young athletes and families through Recreational and Competitive teams
and this facility will only be a net positive.”
The Mettle Shop team has extensive experience in professional and recreational sports
including managing and operating venues such as Golden1 Center
and Heart Health Park The project application
is will now go under review by the City of Folsom

A Folsom police officer offering help to a stranded driver ended up uncovering a loaded firearm and illegal drugs
resulting in the arrest of a Sacramento woman on multiple charges
on May 1 near the 2700 block of East Bidwell Street
An officer on patrol was flagged down by a woman whose vehicle had run out of gas in a nearby parking lot
The officer provided assistance by obtaining fuel and helping her get back on the road
the same officer noticed the woman acting suspiciously while passing through the area again
police said the woman admitted to having drugs and a loaded firearm in the vehicle
A search of the car revealed a loaded .38-caliber revolver
identified as 47-year-old Kelly Long of Sacramento
was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail
including possession of a concealed firearm
Folsom police noted in their report that the incident highlights the importance of vigilance
“What started as a simple act of assistance turned into a serious public safety matter
and another example of how staying alert helps us protect our community,” the department shared in the report

Bureau of Reclamation will require all trailered or motorized vessels launching at Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine to participate in a vessel inspection/quarantine program to help prevent the spread of golden mussels
This highly invasive aquatic species was recently identified in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
the first known occurrence of golden mussels in North America
Golden mussels pose a significant threat to the ecological health of all waters of the state
A media availability will be held this afternoon at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area (SRA). Media outlets interested in attending must RSVP to State Parks at newsroom@parks.ca.gov
“California State Parks is working with the U.S
Bureau of Reclamation and numerous state agencies to take critical steps to prevent golden mussels from infesting Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine,” said Folsom Lake SRA Superintendent Mike Howard
“We thank boaters for their understanding as we implement the new procedures and are working to make the inspection processes as efficient as possible
These prevention measures are a far better alternative to closing the lakes to vessels or a golden mussel infestation
which would not only cause substantial damage to the ecosystem and fishery but also impact the power generation and water delivery systems at Folsom Dam and Reservoir.”
These invasive mussels can also cause significant damage to boats by attaching to hulls and clogging engines
which will lead to increased costs for boat owners
Here are the new requirements:Beginning April 14
Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine will be temporarily closed to all trailered or motorized vessel launching
Vessel owners wishing to launch at Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine at Auburn SRA must have their vessels inspected and a quarantine seal (watercraft band) applied for 30 days
the vessel will not be permitted to launch. Vessel inspections will be conducted at Beals Point beginning April 14
This process is expected to take 15 to 30 minutes depending on the vessel
vessels completing the 30-day quarantine may return to the two lakes
Boaters wishing to return to the lakes in the future will have the option to have their boat sealed upon exiting the water and will not be required to quarantine thereafter as long as the seal remains intact.
All trailered vessels are subject to the inspection
outrigger canoes and rowboats are not subject to the inspection
quarantine and decontamination requirements
Hand-launched watercraft with electric trolling motors
As part of this new golden mussel prevention program
only hand-launched boats will be permitted on Lake Natoma
The existing 5 mph speed limit on Lake Natoma for motorized craft will remain in effect
DBW maintains a list of contacts at: https://dbw.parks.ca.gov/inspections

Key speakers say some 26,000 attendees turn out for Fighting Oligarchy tour stop Tuesday
A city more accustomed to business commerce
and a rodeo rather than national political rallies found itself in the spotlight Tuesday as thousands flocked to Folsom Lake College for a large-scale event headlined by U.S
Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
The event not only filled the campus athletic field but also brought many to the streets surrounding the college to demonstrate their support—or opposition—for the speakers and the movement they represent
part of the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour
marked a rare political moment for Folsom—drawing one of the largest organized single crowds the city has seen
The college’s athletic field became the setting for a series of speeches focused on economic inequality
with attendees arriving from across the region to take part
some 26,000 people were in attendance; however
the official numbers had not yet been confirmed Tuesday night
Originally scheduled for the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn
the event was relocated to Folsom just days prior due to rising attendance projections
Parking lots at the college and surrounding businesses quickly filled
and attendees parked throughout nearby commercial centers and residential neighborhoods
Many walked long distances to reach the venue
in coordination with the Los Rios Police Department and Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office
implemented traffic control measures and temporary road closures
Ocasio-Cortez Delivers Her Firebrand Speech
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took the stage to strong applause
opening her remarks with what she called a sweeping indictment of concentrated wealth and political influence
“We are here together because an extreme concentration of power
and corruption is taking over our country like never before
People we love are being targeted and harassed just for being LGBTQ
are being disappeared off the street by men in vans with no uniform.”
Ocasio-Cortez tied these social issues directly to economic imbalance
“The destruction of our rights and our democracy is directly tied to the growing and extreme wealth inequality that has been building in America for years,” she said
a plane flew overhead displaying a banner that read “Folsom is Trump country.” Ocasio-Cortez addressed the crowd shortly thereafter
“They said Folsom is Trump Country—it sure don’t look like it today
I don’t think this is Trump Country; I think this is our country.”
She also delivered her share of pointed remarks about President Donald Trump in her address
He was found guilty of 34 felony counts of fraud
Of course he is lying and manipulating the stock market too,” she said among her talking points
Ocasio-Cortez closed with a call to action
“We don’t have to live like this anymore
Folsom—a better country where we fight for the dignity of all people
It is standing together without exception to reject division
That is the only way that we can win.”
Senator Bernie Sanders followed with a speech centered on economic inequality
And we will not accept a rigged economy where working people struggle while billionaires become richer,” Sanders said
He cited Elon Musk as an example of wealth concentration
“Elon Musk owns more wealth than the bottom 50% of households in America
“We have got to create an economy that works for working people
Musk and the billionaire class,” he said
Sanders proposed reallocating federal priorities
“Maybe instead of spending a trillion dollars a year on the military
what about building five million units of low-income and affordable housing?” he asked
is earning less than he or she did back then,” he said
“It is time to raise the minimum wage to a living wage.”
“We remain the only major country on Earth not to guarantee healthcare to all people as a human right
We have a healthcare system which is broken
Sanders then turned his focus to local representation
you’ve got a congressman here whose name is Kevin Kiley
Kiley is watching the livestream or not,” Sanders said
I think some of your constituents have a message for you: Don’t vote to give tax breaks to billionaires and cut programs that the working class of this country desperately needs.”
I have a feeling that some of your constituents would love to sit down and chat with you on that issue.”
“Just look at what Republicans in Congress have been quietly doing
They have been voting to advance cuts on hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid and veterans’ benefits so they can take that money and give it to their donor class—all in the form of paying for tax cuts for the rich and sweetheart government contracts for their companies like SpaceX
The man who represents you right here in Congress
“Kevin Kiley knows that this is not what you want
He knows that it hurts the people of Folsom
But he is not there to serve working families
He is there to serve himself and the billionaire class that put him there,” Sanders said
Additional Speakers Address State and Labor Issues
California Director of the Working Families Party
opened the rally with a focus on California’s cost-of-living concerns
“I’m tired of reading a headline of another greedy billionaire corporation attacking everyday Americans,” she said
“This party imagines a California which invests in affordable homes
and a state where neighbors can walk into a hospital and get care.”
California Labor Federation President Lorena Gonzalez spoke on behalf of organized labor
“Which side are you on?” she asked
“Are you on the side of the workers breaking our backs to make ends meet… or are you on the side of corporate oligarchs who bust unions
and exploit profits off the sweat of our labor?”
national president of the American Federation of Government Employees
criticized efforts to weaken federal worker protections
“They want you to believe that—after having been around for over nine decades
through wars and terrorist attacks and pandemics—our union is suddenly a threat to national security
Let’s be clear: they don’t want to get rid of our union because of safety or security
It’s retaliation,” Kelley said
“This isn’t just about federal workers,” he added
what’s to stop them from silencing you next?”
While the rally drew thousands of supporters
it also prompted a visible response from demonstrators opposed to its message
Groups gathered throughout the afternoon along East Bidwell Street and near Broadstone Marketplace
wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat and Trump-branded shirt
“This isn’t about oligarchy—this is about socialism trying to creep into our community,” Dawson said
Many Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez supporters wore campaign apparel instead
wearing a Bernie Sanders T-shirt and Democratic Party pins
told Folsom Times as she waited in line that she attended to support a cause that aligned with her values
“I came here because Bernie and AOC are standing up for people like me—working people who feel like we’ve been somewhat left behind these days financially,” Hayes said
Security was managed by Los Rios Community College Police with the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies
and the rally concluded peacefully as the sun set
and field seating accommodations were provided throughout the afternoon and evening
The “Fighting Oligarchy” tour continues in additional cities over the coming weeks
Organizers say the goal is to “elevate conversations around economic reform and to engage communities ahead of the next election cycle,” which includes the upcoming mid terms

The Folsom Police Department has announced the department will be conducting a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint this Saturday
during the evening hours at an undisclosed location within the city limits of Folsom
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes
The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Tim Galovich said
“Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Folsom Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol
Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving
While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal
driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties
Funding for the checkpoint program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety
through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

An early morning street fight in the heart of Historic Folsom led to multiple arrests and the recovery of two loaded firearms
officers responded to several 911 calls reporting a large-scale physical altercation near the intersection of Sutter Street and Riley Street
Witnesses described a chaotic scene involving multiple men and women fighting
with one man reportedly knocked unconscious
Police said the man later regained consciousness and was transported to a local hospital for treatment
they learned from witnesses that one of the men involved had allegedly brandished a handgun before fleeing the area in a vehicle
Officers quickly began working to locate those involved
using vehicle descriptions provided by witnesses
“Folsom officers located and stopped one sport utility vehicle containing two women believed to be part of the altercation,” the Folsom Police Department said in a statement
a second SUV matching the suspect description was located and stopped by officers from the Citrus Heights Police Department
officers recovered two loaded handguns—one of which was confirmed to have been reported stolen
Investigators later determined that the two women had been involved in a separate assault on two other women
Police said there were no serious injuries reported in that incident
The four individuals taken into custody were all from Sacramento
They were cited and released with court dates
including battery causing great bodily injury
was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm in public and possession of a large-capacity magazine
Cade and Brown were booked into the Sacramento County Jail following their arrests
we thank the alert community members who called 911 and our partners at Citrus Heights PD for helping us bring this dangerous situation to a safe resolution,” the Folsom Police Department said
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to review evidence and witness statements
Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine will be closed to all trailered or motorized vessels
All boats wishing to launch into Folsom Lake or Lake Clementine are required to go through a mandatory 30-day quarantine. After May 14
2025 all trailered or motorized vessels entering Folsom Lake or Lake Clementine will be required to have a quarantine
and/or decontamination seal intact and verified prior to entering the water
Bureau of Reclamation to help prevent the spread of the highly invasive golden mussel (limnoperna fortunei)
all trailered or motorized vessel owners wishing to launch at Folsom Lake or Lake Clementine will be subject to an inspection
Golden mussels were recently discovered in the Port of Stockton in October 2024
the first known occurrence in North America
This highly invasive non-native species poses a significant immediate threat to the ecological health of the waters of the state
water intake and conveyance systems and water quality
Golden mussels can survive in a wider range of conditions than quagga or zebra mussels
Golden mussels can dramatically reduce the abundance of both zooplankton and phytoplankton
Mussel invasions elsewhere have been associated with an increased frequency of potentially-toxic blooms of Microcystis
Their propensity to rapidly colonize any available hard surface jeopardizes built infrastructure in any infested water bodies
They can cause significant damage to boats by attaching to hulls and clogging engines
Rather than close Folsom Lake to recreation boating
Reclamation and State Parks are opting for a prevention program
This action is necessary as a golden mussel infestation at Folsom Lake could cause substantial damage not only to the ecosystem but could also impact the power generation and water delivery systems at Folsom Dam and Reservoir

After May 14, 2025, there will be staff inspecting boats at all OPEN boat launch facilities at Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine
in the event that parking areas meet maximum capacity all vehicles will be denied entry
Folsom Lake SRA and Auburn SRA will be implementing new protocols for boat launching at Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine
All boats meeting the requirements for the inspection procedures will be quarantined and an inspection seal will be applied
Vessels in compliance will be verified on site and permitted to launch
CF number and other pertinent data will be entered into the Watercraft Inspection Database (WID)
If Beals Point Parking Facility reaches capacity, State Parks will direct visitors to Granite Bay for queue. Please check the Folsom Lake Facebook or Instagram for traffic updates
If it is raining the vessel inspection site will be CLOSED for the day.
The following locations are authorized to conduct the 30-day quarantine inspections and place the red seal on vessels:
Mello Marine
Marine Service Center
Uph Yoars
Trained State Parks staff will inspect each vessel for the presence of mussels and onboard water
Once a vessel passes inspection a red quarantine seal will be applied for 30 days during which the vessel will not be permitted to launch
The seal will include a cable through the bow eye of the vessel and around the frame of the trailer to insure it is not launched
The seals are tamper evident and serialized
Each seal application will be entered into a database to confirm the date
Vessels that have finished the 30-day quarantine may launch and have the seal removed by authorized staff or may return to obtain a green seal
Caption: Example of Quarantine Red Cable Seal
any vessel wishing to launch sooner than the required 30-day quarantine period must have a hot-water decontamination performed by an approved decontamination station
These vessels are allowed to launch immediately following decontamination and will have a green seal applied
all vessels must have a green seal attached by authorized staff to be allowed to freely launch at Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine
Staff will ensure there is no debris on the vessel
and that the ballasts and live wells are emptied before applying the outbound green seal
If a seal is not applied for any reason
the vessel will need to undergo another 30-day quarantine or decontamination
Quagga and Zebra (Dreissenid) mussels and the recently identified Golden mussel (Limnoperna fortunei) pose a serious threat to California's waters and fisheries
The spread of these freshwater mussels threatens recreational boating and fishing
agriculture and the environment in general
As a means to stop the spread of these harmful invasive mussels
and dry means to take the following steps:
Boaters should be prepared for inspections throughout the state designed to help ensure California's waterbodies remain mussel-free
Properly cleaning and drying can help protect boats and help boaters avoid quarantines or being turned away from a water destination
the Division of Boating and Waterways urges boaters to plan for possible launch restrictions and inspections by calling waterbodies before leaving home
Programs and requirements vary and can change rapidly
rowing shells and row boats are not subject to the inspection
Hand launched boats with electric trolling motors
and eFoils are also exempt from the inspection
quarantine or decontamination and seal program
All exempt watercraft must follow the Clean
As part of implementing this new golden mussel prevention program
only hand launched boats will be permitted
either non-motorized craft or hand launched boats with small electric trolling motors
Trailered boats will not be permitted at Lake Natoma

will intermittently close a segment of the American River Bike Trail within Folsom Lake State Recreation Area next month for a utility undergrounding project
Monday through Friday between Mountain Oak Court and the Rainbow Bridge
State Parks expects to reopen the trail by April 1
This trail closure is necessary for SMUD to install utilities beneath the bike path
and trail users are encouraged to find an alternate path
the trail will remain open but be reduced to a single travel lane
“We understand this project will impact trail users and have worked closely with SMUD to schedule this project outside of peak use times,” said Folsom Lake Sector Superintendent Mike Howard
“While this closure may be an inconvenience in the short term
the long-term benefits will enhance community safety and provide more reliable utilities.”
SMUD personnel will be present during the closure to help ensure the public’s safety and prevent access to the construction zone

Recent permit activity has been spotted regarding a much-delayed proposal for 655 Folsom Street in SoMa, San Francisco
The application was initially filed in 2013 to replace the two-story Canton Dim Sum House restaurant with a 14-story apartment complex
The structure has remained six years after the previously announced 2019 groundbreaking by developer Pillar Capital Group
The recent permit activity shows that the proposal has not altered since the last planning department update in early 2020
The application calls for a 14-story tower with 89 apartments
2,300 square feet of ground-level commercial space
Additional storage is included for 97 bicycles
Demolition will be required for the existing building
City records show the property last sold in 2013 for $11 million
The 0.16-acre rectangular parcel is located at the corner of Folsom Street and Hawthorne Street
The site is on the same block as the expansive SoMa Square Apartments
and directly across from the recently re-skinned office complex at 633 Folsom Street
The lot is immediately adjacent to 120 Hawthorne Street, a roughly half-acre, irregularly-shaped lot with a similar story to 655 Folsom Street. Equity Residential received approval in 2017 for a 230-unit residential infill designed by Handel Architects
120 Hawthorne Street (outlined in white) wrapped around 655 Folsom Street (corner lot)
Arquitectonica has worked as the project architect
The previously-released renderings show a rectangular complex characterized by a checkered pattern of boxy bay windows and inset terraces
Additional open space is provided with a rooftop deck
New building permits were issued in August 2019
with demolition permits issued in October 2023
The estimated cost and timeline for construction have not been provided
Pillar Capital Group has yet to reply to a request for comment

We desperately need many more of these throughout SoMa
Waiting for the day when cranes begin to dot the sky again
I thought most of the luxury condos emptied out when all of the tech bros decamped to Austin
As someone who was in the rental market less than a month ago
the housing market in SF for both rentals and buying is back in high demand
with the RTO enforcement at some companies
JS Sullivan’s condo development in Russian Hill sold out in less than a year
and towers like Mira are getting filled again
They believe any new housing is a sin and the world of supply and demand is imaginary
The derelict restaurant is a drag on the neighborhood
I hope those white framing elements are concrete
Having lived in so many other cities and countries
it’s insane how long it takes for anything to get built in this city
Nothing is stopping them from building it other than their own greed
I’m never quite certain on some of these projects whether they are rentals or condos
I know in NY people refer to their homes as “apartments,” even though they may be condos or co-ops
I think outside of NYC apartments means rentals and condos means for sale
I think the Condo market is pretty much non-existent right though so I don’t think many condos are getting built
The Florida condo building collapse a few years ago caused HOA fees to go up nationwide so that buildings could be better maintained and high interest rates mean that most buyers have to pay interest with the money that could have gone to HOA fees
Those things combined make it hard for Condos to get sold right now so I don’t think many builders are even bothering with them

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez “AOC” due Tuesday afternoon
Drivers in Folsom should brace for widespread traffic delays and road closures this Tuesday
as thousands are expected to descend on the city for a large-scale political rally presented by U.S
Senator Bernie Sanders and featuring Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at Folsom Lake College
City and campus officials say traffic congestion is expected to begin early in the afternoon and continue into the evening hours as the high-profile national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour makes its Northern California stop at the college’s outdoor athletic field
and the speaking program scheduled to begin at 6 p.m
According to a traffic advisory issued by the Folsom Police Department and the Los Rios Police Department
significant traffic congestion is expected along East Bidwell Street
The city is advising drivers to plan ahead
including Scholar Way between East Bidwell Street and Silberhorn Drive
and Cavitt Drive between Scholar Way and Lothian Way
These streets will remain closed to through traffic until the conclusion of the event
and parking in nearby residential neighborhoods will be restricted to residents only
Drivers are asked to obey all posted signage and to avoid blocking driveways or private access points
Law enforcement agencies will also be closely monitoring the area as several groups are reportedly planning a variety of demonstrations in response to the event
some of which are expected near the college and along East Bidwell Street
While police did not elaborate on the nature of the demonstrations
they advised the public to remain aware of their surroundings and follow any temporary detours or instructions from officers at the scene
working in coordination with Los Rios Police and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office
will be present throughout the day to manage traffic flow
Tuesday’s event marks a last-minute venue change for the Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez tour
which was initially scheduled to be held at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn
Due to overwhelming RSVP numbers and space limitations
the tour team relocated the event to Folsom Lake College
similar events held in Southern California have drawn large crowds
adding to expectations of significant turnout in Folsom
Folsom Mayor Sarah Aquino noted in a social media comment that city officials have been told to anticipate up to 10,000 attendees
Security and traffic plans have been developed swiftly between local agencies to prepare for the influx
“We are happy to provide this service for our community partners,” said Kristy Hart of Folsom Lake College
“We are very happy to serve our civic duty as well.” Hart emphasized that all logistical and planning responsibilities are being handled by the Sanders tour team and not the college itself
The event is part of a national campaign by Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez focused on economic inequality and corporate influence in government
The “Fighting Oligarchy” tour has made headlines across the country for targeting figures such as former President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk
accusing them of undermining public sector jobs and eroding democratic accountability
“Over the course of the next few weeks
I’ll be hitting the road to have real discussions across America on how we move forward to take on the oligarchs and corporate interests who have so much power and influence in this country,” Sanders said in announcing the tour
Tuesday’s event in Folsom will focus on issues such as economic justice
participants must RSVP in advance through the tour’s official website
Those planning to attend should note several security restrictions
Outside food and beverages will also not be permitted
Six food trucks will also be onsite for food purchases
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating on the athletic field
Free parking will be available on a first-come
though spaces are expected to fill quickly
Overflow parking may be available on nearby streets where permitted
The event is expected to wrap up by 9 p.m.

Senator Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent, said over 30,000 people turned out to his rally with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
located within a Republican-leaning Congressional district on Tuesday
Newsweek reached out to a spokesperson for Sanders for comment via email
Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez are two progressive standard-bearers for the Democratic Party who have been touring the U.S. for the "Fight Oligarchy" tour, bringing events to swing states and deeply conservative corners of the country to drive progressive enthusiasm and resistance to President Donald Trump's policy
Folsom, a suburb of Sacramento, is viewed as a competitive area and is located within California's 3rd Congressional District, represented by Republican Congressman Kevin Kiley
The current configuration of the map gave Trump single-digit wins in the 2016
Despite that conservative slant, more than 30,000 people attended the rally, Sanders wrote in a post to X, formerly Twitter
more than 30,000 people came out on a Tuesday night," he wrote
"We can and WILL defeat Trump and the oligarchs."
A Folsom Lake College official confirmed to Newsweek on Wednesday that 30,000 people were in attendance
Kiley won reelection in the district where Folsom is located by about 11 points
though Trumps' victory was closer to 3 points
according to data compiled by analyst Drew Savicki and cited by the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia
The Cook Political Report classifies the district as "Likely Republican" in 2026
meaning it is "not considered competitive at this point," but it does have "the potential to become engaged."
Sanders has said the rally is meant "to have real discussions across America on how we move forward to take on the oligarchs and corporate interests who have so much power and influence in this country."
During the Folsom rally, Sanders acknowledged the crowd size he has drawn to conservative states like Idaho and Utah
"We were in Idaho—Idaho!—and 12,000 people showed up...the most conservative state in the country," the progressive senator said
"we had 20,000 people in Salt Lake City—[in] a Republican state."
Sanders' staff said that he held his largest-ever rally in Los Angeles
They said the event drew a crowd of some 36,000 people
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at a Fighting Oligarchy rally in Los Angeles: "Big money is how we got Donald Trump
And his whole presidency began with launching tools for bribery
meme coins to fleece working people and move around money in the dark
extortion settlements from media companies and law firms who gladly pay them."
Colorado rally in a March 23 X post: "The Dems just move around the same group of paid 'protesters.'" In a separate post on Friday
Musk wrote: "Bernie is just fully communist."
The Fighting Oligarchy tour is set to continue on Wednesday with a stop in Missoula, Montana, a state that Trump easily won in each of his elections, as well as in 2020 when he lost to former President Joe Biden
