Watch the greatest plays from former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman's 12-year career in New England Julian Edelman's place in Patriots history will be officially immortalized in 2025 The longtime Patriots receiver has been voted into the Patriots Hall of Fame by fans as its 37th inductee "Julian Edelman is one of the great success stories in our franchise's history," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement "There aren't many players who earn an NFL roster spot at a position they have never played before Julian not only did that as a seventh-round draft selection but he finished his career with the second-most receptions in franchise history and as a three-time Super Bowl Champion "No one was more committed to his craft and honing his skills than Jules quickness in his cuts and elusiveness after the catch made him one of the hardest players to defend His clutch catches in our biggest games and overall toughness made him a fan favorite." Edelman's football journey took him on a winding path that included a number of stops along the way He began his collegiate career as a zero-star dual-threat quarterback at the junior college level in San Mateo where he starred at quarterback and made enough highlight-reel plays to land on the radar of at least one NFL team: New England which spent a seventh-round pick on Edelman in 2009 and quickly redirected his career toward receiver but he eventually grasped the intricacies of the position proving to be a trusty target for Tom Brady and recording three 1,000-yard seasons over 12 years He retired with 620 catches for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns in 11 seasons adding 118 receptions for 1,442 yards and five touchdowns in postseason action -- including a legendary snag in the Patriots' stunning comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI and 10 catches for 141 yards in the Pats' victory against the Los Angeles Rams that secured him Super Bowl LIII MVP honors Upon retiring, there was no question whether he'd end up in the Patriots Hall of Fame. Edelman will enter the club's Hall of Fame alongside former Patriots head coach Bill Parcells who was named a contributor by Kraft earlier in 2025 A date for their induction has not yet been announced .@Edelman11 did it all. Ramsey Rams head coach Sean McVay didn't downplay the club's interest in a reunion The Patriots have had a impressive history of pass catching backs that can impact the offense From Kevin Faulk to Danny Woodhead to Shane Vereen and James White New England has seen more than its share of big plays from that position Mike Vrabel and his personnel staff may have found the next one in TreVeyon Henderson and he may be the most explosive of the bunch Henderson was selected in the second round 202-pound running back was productive both as a runner and receiver but it's his ability to turn in big plays that allows him to stand out in the pack During his college career with the Buckeyes Henderson averaged 6.4 yards per carry and that number rose to 7.1 last season He also averaged 11.1 yards per reception over his four seasons it's clear he has the ability to make big plays "That's not being fair to him," OSU running backs coach Carlos Locklyn said with a laugh when it was suggested Henderson had some explosiveness to his game He can take it to the house from anywhere on the field Watch college football highlights from Patriots 2025 NFL Draft pick TreVeyon Henderson The Ohio State running back was taken 38th overall by New England Henderson also excels in another area of the game that is vital to his role: pass protection Locklyn says his pupil was the best pass protector in college football A peek at his highlight tape shows numerous thundering hits on unsuspecting linebackers making a beeline toward Henderson's quarterback "In six-man pass protections he gets his hands on linebackers and gets great leverage," Locklyn said "You'd think he was a 225- or 230-pound guy the way he rocks guys I know [offensive coordinator] Josh [McDaniels] is going to tap into that He hasn't even scratched the surface of what he can do as back "He's the best pass protector in college football As impressive as Henderson's work out of the Ohio State backfield is Locklyn describes him as a selfless player with the team's best interests in mind at all times Ohio State head coach Ryan Day approached Henderson to ask how he would feel about adding running back Quinshon Judkins to the roster via the transfer portal Rather than viewing such a move as a threat to his playing time Henderson embraced it and told his coach he would be in favor of doing anything that would help the team win The Buckeyes went on to capture the national title with both backs leading the way Go inside the Patriots Draft room as New England selects running back TreVeyon Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft "I've had a lot of backs in my career and TreVeyon is the best leader I've ever been around," said Locklyn who also coached Patriots running back Antonio Gibson during his time at Memphis Everything about him is what you want in a person He was always doing things with the younger backs going out to eat together and things like that He's a strong believer in the fellowship of being together He always says it's for the love of my brother That's what makes him such a great pass protector He'll play for 10 years and be a great organization guy Henderson should get an opportunity to contribute to the offense immediately Rhamondre Stevenson and Gibson top the returning depth chart at running back with young Terrell Jennings is also set to return Gibson has extensive experience as a pass catcher and showed the ability to be productive between the tackles last year but he doesn't possess the kind of electricity Henderson can provide who was immensely productive at Wisconsin before arriving in New England as a fourth-round pick back in 2014 But the rookie has the potential to be more dangerous than the ever-dependable White in the open field with his speed and explosiveness The one thing Locklyn says Henderson may need to solidify his game is improvement when churning out the tough yards inside It's not that Henderson lacks the power to do so but his coach believes his patience on such plays could be better Patriots second round pick TreVeyon Henderson addresses the media during his Draft conference call on Friday "That's one thing when he was prepping for Combine interviews he asked me to help him with," Locklyn said "I told him it's not always about being an on the outside getting the ball on the edge kind of guy He understood that and he improved that this year "He's going to be fine running between the tackles He has enough weight on him and has a very high IQ as a football player and understands how to set up blocks and the run schemes He'll have every opportunity to be a three-down back He's just scratching the surface of what he can be." Polk starred at the University of Washington hauling in 69 receptions for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns as the Huskies' No 2 receiver behind Rome Odunze during his final collegiate campaign that stellar play certainly did not carry over into Polk's first NFL season he may already be on the hot seat because of it it may be too soon for New England to give up on Polk But the Pats will need to clear some roster space and it stands to reason that the disappointing playmaker could ultimately become a casualty Make sure you bookmark New England Patriots on SI for the latest news, exclusive interviews, film breakdowns, and so much more! what happens when an NFL team goes on the clock at the NFL Draft Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf sits down with Scott Zolak to look back at the Patriots 2025 Draft Class Patriots quarterback Drake Maye addresses the media on Thursday Patriots linebacker Christian Elliss addresses the media on Thursday There were plenty of surprises in the 2025 NFL draft, including the New England Patriots selecting Vanderbilt long snapper Julian Ashby in the seventh round It was obvious by that move that other teams were interested and the Patriots were avoiding a potential bidding war for an undrafted rookie free agent They had an abundance of draft picks after wheeling and dealing throughout the draft for multiple trades According to ESPN's Mike Reiss the talented SEC long snapper had private workouts with nine teams before the draft Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer were among those in attendance for a workout in Nashville "Sources familiar with the matter said Ashby had private workouts with nine teams before the draft including one with the Patriots in Nashville that Vrabel was part of alongside another scout and special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer." The decision to draft Ashby also came with the plan of releasing longtime Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona It's always tough saying goodbye to a 10-year veteran like Cardona but there's also hope that great things can be expected for the future with a bright Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook one former Super Bowl MVP believes that the highly-touted Farmer — whom the Pats selected with pick No 137 — may be poised and well-positioned to soon take home the NFL’s highest defensive honor During a recent interview with RotoGrinders Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend Dexter Jackson offered some high praise for the now former Florida State product believes that Farmer is a potential Defensive Player of the Year Award winner in the future “Farmer brings a lot to the Patriots’ defense,” Jackson declared. “When you take his intangibles, tape, and skill set into consideration and combine that with the situation he is in being coached by Mike Vrabel in a cold environment where he could play right away Farmer could be a future Defensive Player of the Year.” Throughout his college career at Florida State Farmer appeared in 42 games while collecting 11 sacks and one forced fumble Despite beginning his tenure as a redshirt earning 64 tackles — 15 of which went for loss from 2023-24 In addition to being a fan of Farmer’s game Jackson is confident that he is in the ideal spot to help craft him into one of the league’s top players at his position “New England is a great spot for Farmer,” Jackson said “They are still rebuilding but have a lot of good young players so it’s a great time for Farmer to come into the team He has the opportunity to play right away and learn from a great coach in an organization that has won six Super Bowl championships ”I know Vrabel well, so I know Farmer will be coached hard and he’ll be coached well," Jackson added. ”From playing under Bill Belichick Vrabel knows the Xs and Os and he knows what buttons to press to make guys play harder and understand the game better.” Considered by many to be a top-75 talent in this year’s class Farmer’s selection by the Patriots on day three has unsurprisingly injected him with a potent dose of motivation he is best suited to prove his naysayers wrong with solid play on the field He possesses the quickness to get into gaps and make some plays in the backfield but he is also an intimidating run defender Similar in style to Patriots star defensive tackle Christian Barmore Farmer could either make an impressive complementary piece or a potential starter as Barmore makes his attempt to return from blood clots which kept him out of action for much of 2025 the Patriots also added free agent defensive linemen Milton Williams and Khyiris Tonga to a line which already includes Barmore and defensive end Jeremiah Pharms Farmer may be primed to make an impact on the Patriots in short order he may also accelerate the Pats pursuit of a return to postseason play — a goal of which they have fallen short since 2021 “The AFC East is not a strong division right now the Patriots could win this division in 2025.” Jackson boldly predicted “It’s cold in New England and you can’t throw the ball 60 times for them to go out and get a bigger guy in Farmer who can plug the hole but also still get pressure on the quarterback up front There's nothing quite like seeing your child succeed in life I made it," Julian told his father on a phone call video posted on social media Julian Edelman's mother filmed his father's reaction after receiving news from the Patriots that Edelman was being inducted It made for a feel-good moment for the family of one of the greatest players in franchise history Edelman is ranked third all-time in receptions (118) and receiving yards (1,142) in the NFL postseason He's also a three-time Super Bowl champion Super Bowl LIII MVP and All-Dynasty player in New England Legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri and former All-Pro guard Logan Mankins were the other candidates on the list who failed to make the cut Some might have their own preferences and opinions on who deserved to get in this year but it's impossible to argue that Edelman wasn't deserving the Patriots joining the franchise as a seventh-round pick out of Kent State in 2009 and becoming a key cog in three Super Bowl championship teams after switching from college quarterback to NFL wide receiver This was Edelman's first year of eligibility for the Patriots Hall of Fame which requires a player to be retired for at least four seasons A Patriots Hall of Fame committee composed of media members and team-based media staffers named him a finalist alongside kicker Adam Vinatieri (1996-2005) and offensive lineman Logan Mankins (2005-13) Of the finalists chosen by the Patriots Hall of Fame committee a fan vote over multiple weeks then determines one inductee since the process was instituted in 2007 "Julian Edelman is one of the great success stories in our franchise's history," owner Robert Kraft said in a statement but he finished his career with the second-most receptions in franchise history [620] and as a three-time Super Bowl champion Edelman posted to X Monday that he was "honored and grateful." The post included a video of him calling his father to share the news Honored and grateful #FoxboroForever @patriots pic.twitter.com/zTz9cgGbQN Former Patriots coach Bill Belichick had the foresight to project that Edelman -- who finished his Kent State career with 4,997 passing yards and 2,664 rushing yards over 31 games -- could transition to receiver and punt returner in the NFL That led the Patriots to select him with pick No he struggled to catch punts and was booed by fans at one point Edelman was more of a niche player in his first four seasons in the NFL -- totaling 69 receptions for 714 yards and four touchdowns -- before breaking through in 2013 with a 105-catch 1,056-yard season as quarterback Tom Brady's go-to target His career took off from there, with arguably his greatest play coming in the team's 34-28 comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI with a sensational tipped-ball diving catch late in the fourth quarter The play reflected how Edelman, as Kraft noted, was one of the Patriots' most clutch performers. He ranks third in NFL history with 118 postseason receptions, behind Travis Kelce (178) and Jerry Rice (151) His 1,442 postseason receiving yards also ranks third all-time In the Patriots' 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII he was named MVP after finishing with 10 receptions for 141 yards While Edelman is widely viewed as worthy of the Patriots Hall of Fame honor his selection by fans over Vinatieri -- who was also in his first year of eligibility after the 2024 voting process was tabled to induct Brady -- is likely to spark debate on how much influence fans should have in selecting the inductee Like Edelman, Vinatieri was part of three Super Bowl championship teams in New England (2001, 2003, 2004) and his "Snow Bowl" kick in a divisional-round win over the Raiders on Jan is considered by some to be the greatest kick in NFL history -- a play many view as the official beginning of what led to the Patriots' dynastic run that included six Super Bowls Vinatieri, who went on to play for the Indianapolis Colts (2006-19) when the Patriots didn't offer him a comparable long-term contract after using the franchise tag on him in successive years was also a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year in his first year of eligibility Edelman will be joined by former coach Bill Parcells (1993-96) as this year's inductees into the Patriots Hall of Fame Kraft used his standing as owner to put Parcells into the Hall of Fame as a contributor after he had been voted a finalist five times MA – JANUARY 18: Julian Edelman #11 of the New England Patriots runs on to the field before the 2015 AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts at Gillette Stadium on January 18 On Monday morning, the New England Patriots announced that wide receiver Julian Edelman will be the 37th inductee into the Patriots Hall of Fame Edelman was in his first year on the ballot Edelman was one of three finalists for this year's round of voting along with kicker Adam Vinatieri and guard Logan Mankins Voting took place online over the last month "Julian Edelman is one of the great success stories in our franchise's history," team owner Robert Kraft said in a statement No one was more committed to his craft and honing his skills than Jules The Patriots drafted Edelman in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft Edelman made the move to wide receiver right away in New England He initially made his impact as a punt returner before becoming one of Tom Brady's more reliable receivers In a 12-year career - all with the Patriots - Edelman caught 620 passes for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns His receptions are the second-most by a player in team history and he ranks fourth in yards and ninth in touchdowns Beyond just the stats Edelman had some of his best moments at the biggest spots in the biggest games. During the run to Super Bowl XLIX, his double pass touchdown to Danny Amendola against the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round was a turning point in that back-and-forth game He also caught multiple key passes in that Super Bowl Two years later Edelman made what might have been the most defining single catch of his career. Late in the 28-3 comeback against the Atlanta Falcons Edelman held on by the fingertips to catch a deflected Tom Brady pass on the game-tying drive he caught two third-down conversions from Tom Brady on the game-winning drive in overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs He'd go on to win Super Bowl MVP two weeks later Edelman ranks third all time in both playoff catches (118) and yards (1,442) in a career Edelman will be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame along with former head coach Bill Parcells who will be added as part of the contributor committee A date for the induction will be announced at a later time but the ceremony usually takes place during training camp or on a Saturday early in the season Download the app to LISTEN LIVE wherever you are and connect with us like never before FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that former wide receiver Julian Edelman has been voted into the Patriots Hall of Fame as the 37th inductee. Williams' way: It appeared wide receiver Kyle Williams had an important decision to make last December He had one game remaining in his college career but with Washington State in the midst of a coaching transition and more than 20 teammates immediately entering the transfer portal the question was: Would he play in the Holiday Bowl there wasn't a decision to make -- he was always playing "When your best player puts his foot down and says we need to do it,' and he's the first one to step out on the field there is a lot of power in that," said former Washington State coach Jake Dickert who was hired as Wake Forest's coach before the Holiday Bowl "I obviously didn't get to see that one all the way through he was one of the catalysts for the type of effort and energy that team played with He also knew the value he could create for himself He went out there and people saw every step of the way is a big stamp on the character piece of Kyle Williams." Williams totaled 10 receptions for 172 yards and one touchdown in the Cougars' 52-35 loss to Syracuse -- not the Holiday Bowl result he hoped for but a performance that helped uplift an undermanned team in a competitive game We had an opportunity to get him at a really pivotal time in his life and he just developed so much with us," Dickert said Williams transferred from UNLV to Washington State in 2023, in part to play with quarterback Cam Ward The receiver's connection with Ward further elevated his football career -- Dickert noted Williams "can really run wins in the release phase of the route and is a tremendous over-the-top deep-ball catcher" -- but there was also something important evolving behind the scenes there's some magical part to going and doing something really uncomfortable -- 30,000 [population] Pullman and not having a lot of things that you're familiar with growing up I just think he discovered himself as a man," Dickert said "I think that is what is going to make him be successful in the NFL because he is used to doing uncomfortable things -- growing Williams totaled 131 receptions for 2,040 yards and 20 touchdowns Williams' 14 catches on passes thrown 20-plus yards downfield tied for fourth Asked to describe his style of play shortly after the Patriots drafted him he had 117 receptions for 1,568 yards and nine touchdowns Williams had been a key recruit at UNLV in then-coach Marcus Arroyo's first class "The character and work ethic are the things that stick out the most -- a small-school guy in inner-city L.A. kind of a needle in a haystack," said Arroyo who is currently in his second season as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Arizona State "There were a couple kids that were outliers that I thought had some really good skill sets He went to [three] different [high] schools -- was still the best player never really said a bad thing about changing schools I knew we had a guy who was going to take every second to learn it and try to become the best he could." Arroyo believes that makes Williams an ideal fit for the Patriots' culture which he first became familiar with as an assistant under Dick Tomey at San Jose State from 2005 to 2008 (Tomey coached Patriots Hall of Famer Tedy Bruschi at Arizona) and later while coaching at Cal (when the Patriots selected running back Shane Vereen) Arroyo shared his answer to those in the NFL who asked him about Williams leading up to the draft 'Are they blue-collar guys who show up early and stay late Are you going to have to worry about them off the field?' Those are the ones I was able to answer dramatically "I can't say enough good things about the human that's where we all want to start -- someone who loves ball and wants to work his butt off." 2. Larison's guarantee: Of the 17 undrafted free agents the Patriots agreed to contracts with, UC Davis running back Lan Larison has one of the richest deals as he received $175,000 in guaranteed money That reflects how the Patriots likely had competition from other teams to land Larison a dual threat who finished his college career with 641 carries for 3,634 yards and 41 touchdowns and 127 receptions for 1,626 yards and 10 TDs Closer to home, Boston College offensive lineman Jack Conley also had other suitors as his contract with the Patriots includes $110,000 in guaranteed money The Patriots' three-day rookie minicamp starts Friday 3. Maye works ahead: Quarterback Drake Maye said one of his goals this offseason is to master the verbiage of coordinator Josh McDaniels' offense specifically working ahead of his teammates in that area so they can look to him with assurance and avoid a situation where he might say "We used to call it this [in the old offense] is to "just try to switch the lingo completely 4. Diggs' impression: While Diggs is still rehabbing from a torn ACL in his right knee, veteran tight end Austin Hooper seemed surprised at what he has been able to do during the team's voluntary offseason program You can see him already with the explosion Maye shared that Diggs was on his fantasy team in high school and that now he's excited to throw to him as a teammate 5. Vrabel's chest pad: One consistent part of Mike Vrabel's coaching style is how he puts on a chest pad and engages players at the line of scrimmage, which included first-round pick Will Campbell now-famously knocking him on his backside in a predraft workout in Louisiana Vrabel said that's one way he can feel a player's power Recently signed edge rusher K'Lavon Chaisson smiled while explaining that there's a benefit to Vrabel's approach for players: There aren't many jobs in which employees can blast their boss "When you get a chance to put your hands on him you want to take advantage of it and get a good strike in," he cracked 6. They said it: "When I got the offer sheet from the Raiders, I'm sitting down with my wife, tearing up, and I'm like, 'Is this really happening? I've been cut six times.'" -- restricted free agent linebacker Christian Elliss $13.5 million deal that the Patriots matched from the Raiders and what it represented in his career journey including stops with Minnesota 7. Ashby intel: The Patriots made Vanderbilt's Julian Ashby the first NFL long-snapper drafted since 2021 when they selected him in the seventh round (No and sources familiar with the matter said Ashby had private workouts with nine teams before the draft including one with the Patriots in Nashville that Vrabel was part of alongside another scout and special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer Ashby also had a predraft visit with the Bears in Chicago So instead of having to compete with other teams to sign Ashby as an undrafted free agent the Patriots moved ahead with drafting him With the releases of LS Joe Cardona and C David Andrews, and Deatrich Wise Jr. and Jonathan Jones departing as free agents, the 4 longest tenured Patriots are no longer with the team.New longest tenured players: S Kyle Dugger, OLB Anfernee Jennings, OL Mike Onwenu ... from 2020. pic.twitter.com/YdwlYC0NXK 8. Cardona's goodbye: When long-snapper Joe Cardona was released early last week after 10 years with the Patriots he made the rounds inside Gillette Stadium to say goodbye to various team employees with whom he'd developed a connection over the past decade joining a meeting of the Patriots' content team to say thank you we've never had a [released] player come up and do that," Fred Kirsch especially considering services were held in Nashville 10. Did you know? Since 2000, the Patriots have selected two players from the same school in the draft 17 times -- most recently this year with LSU offensive tackle Campbell (first round) and edge rusher Bradyn Swinson (fifth round) The New England Patriots' ailing receiving corps is suddenly crowded thanks to a couple of free-agent signings and a draft pick Brian Hines of Pats Pulpit fielded a question from a fan who asked if New England would be trading wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and Hines agreed that Boutte would likely have the most value of the receivers on the bubble for the Patriots Hines then went on to name the Dallas Cowboys as a potential landing spot for Boutte "Boutte could profile as a low-volume X-receiver in Josh McDaniels’ offense, but the production last year at 23 years old would likely lead to him having the most trade value of the bubble players," Hines wrote "One team that would make plenty of sense as a potential partner for Boutte or any receiver: the Dallas Cowboys." The Cowboys could certainly use another wide out behind CeeDee Lamb as they didn't make any signings in free agency to address the need nor did they use a single draft pick on a receiver the latter of which was particularly surprising Boutte emerged as a solid threat in New England's aerial attack last season catching 43 passes for 589 yards and three touchdowns He was especially effective down the stretch he logged seven catches for 117 yards and a score You would think the Pats would want to ensure they keep Boutte on their roster given how much their receiver room struggled in 2024 but the Patriots signed both Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency and third-round draft pick Kyle Williams figures to get some playing time Throw in the fact that New England also has pieces like DeMario Douglas and someone will probably have to get dealt Given that Boutte has more value than most of those other players This article first appeared on New England Patriots on SI and was the Bay State May 4  with an explosive which included a two-song encore and FM radio staples from the band’s 50-plus-year career Billed as the “Power Up Tour” (stylized as “PWR/UP Tour”) the concert at Gillette Stadium certainly lived up to its name no matter how you spelled it.Playing to a packed grid-iron of multi-generational concertgoers battery-operated devil horns on top of their heads that were selling like hotcakes at the merch table for $25 a pop AC/DC came barreling out of the starting gate with “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)” from 1979’s “Highway to Hell.” Singer Brian Johnson came out with his arms over his head it seemed apropos because it was a win that he was even there and the band is still together and touring in the first place after the alcohol poisoning death of Bon Scott the longest and most popular singer for the Australian rockers But AC/DC’s future seemed uncertain when Johnson was sidelined in 2016 due to doctor’s orders that he risked losing what little remained of his hearing wearing a sleeveless black Harley-Davidson jersey He belted out tune after tune celebrating the band's love for loud music getting loaded and punching up Lucifer’s coordinates on the GPS While he is truly the perfect front man for AC/DC Johnson would probably be just another struggling British pub singer if it weren't for the guitar god from down under And Angus was playing at nuclear strength capacity from the get-go at Gillette Wearing a blue velvet schoolboy uniform with matching jacket and shorts a yellow baseball cap with the letter “A” and a fat stripe-tie that dangled beyond his inseam Young came barreling on the stage like he was shot out of a cannon and he did so until the very end when they were actually firing real-life cannons With a stack of Marshall amps towering behind him Young paraded out onstage while playing his guitar with aplomb almost like he was the Pied Piper of high decibels and heavy metal Rounding out the band (and standing much further back) were rhythm guitarist Stevie Young who died in 2017 (although Stevie Young has been playing with AC/DC since 2014) By the time the band got to its second number crowd-pleaser “Back in Black,” AC/DC already proved that it was back gargling with razor blade-like vocals were perfectly matched with Angus Young's scorching guitar riffs Not only did the two show that they’re still a rock ‘n’ roll force to be reckoned with AC/DC proved why it is arguably one of the greatest stadium band's to rock the earth Sprinkled between the hard-rocking classics were two enjoyable enough numbers from 2020’s “Power Up” (“Demon Fire” and “Shot in the Dark”) and two more from the 2000s (2000’s “Stiff Upper Lip” and 2008’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Train”) the songs were all classic from AC/DC’s ‘70s heyday through ’81 AC/DC seemed to be taunting the weather gods above with an electrifying “Thunderstruck.” Shedding his jacket before shredding on the six-string Angus Young brought the song to an explosive climax As a giant bell with the AC/DC logo was lowered from the rafters it was time for — you guessed it — “Hells Bells," aka the best heavy metal song about hearing ominous ringing in one’s ears (Sorry Young scorched his fretboard like a man possessed His heat-emitting precision playing was enough to singe anyone’s eyebrows that were pressed against the stage while Johnson’s was singing at his bile-spewing best The evening’s perfect one-two punch came in the form of two back-to-back Sporting devil’s horns sprouting from his forehead Young delivered the song’s snarly guitar groove while doing his doing his Aussie-version of Chuck Berry’s infamous duckwalk on “Highway to Hell,” while the audience head-bang and harmonized with Johnson in unison Even more thrilling than “Highway to Hell” was “Shoot to Thrill,” where the rhythm section was given permission and plenty of room to fuel the song with a fierce backbeat “Sin City” from 1978’s “Powerage” was a deliciously decadent ditty Not only did Angus provide the song with an arsenal of big he delivered a killer lead on his heavily amped guitar by slamming the frets with his Windsor knotted necktie Let’s see so-called guitar god Jimmy Page do that Committing acts of mischief for fun and profit never sounded as appealing as AC/DC’s “Dirty Deed Done Dirty Cheap.”  After losing his necktie and opening his untucked white shirt Angus seemed to be re-energized as he started head-banging and wailing on his guitar like a little kid While his guitar grooves got down and dirty in the song’s nitty gritty there was never anything that was cheap about “Dirty Deeds.” “You Shook Me All Night Long,” is also arguably AC/DC’s greatest song and easily one of rock ‘n’ roll’s best In addition to knocking the crowd out with a tale about “American thighs,” the massive sing-along also boasted Johnson’s best vocals After a rocking and rambunctious “Whole Lotta Rosie,” there was a whole lot of Angus Young to take in "Let There Be Rock," served as another solid showcase of Angus' massive guitar playing This tour de force on the fret board had Angus playing front and center delivering bone-crunching guitar riffs and roaring guitar solos all of which were mesmerizing and awe-inspiring While whipping the crowd of 42,000 in a frenzy while contorting his mouth into an “O” during this 20-minute all-out Blitzkrieg on his battle axe that needlessly ended with confetti cannons going off “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You),” AC/DC’s production team rolled out working cannons the big guns were still Angus’ guitar playing and Johnson’s howling vocals Fronted by former child actor-turn-rock goddess Taylor Momsen was a combination rock ‘n’ roll pinup and powder-keg performer onstage during the band’s explosive 55-minute No longer the Cindy Lou Who character she played in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” or the thankless kid sister on “Gossip Girl,” Momsen has grown up to be a bonafide rockstar Wearing a white slip under a black leather biker jacket and sporting black raccoon eyeliner blond bombshell proved that she can rock with the guys and still be feminine to boot Commanding the stage like she was the second coming of Cherie Currie Momsen didn't let her petite frame or her good looks get into the way of convincingly belting out her heavy-duty rock who was an uncanny resemblance to Alan Rickman’s Severus Snape character in the “Harry Potter” movies certainly was a star pupil in the Tony Iommi School of heavy metal guitar riffage Phillips provided a fire-and-brimstone foundation for Momsen to unleash her impassioned cries and heart-wrenching growls on a series of ferocious dysfunctional relationship and breakup ditties with warm and fuzzy titles that include “Death By Rock and Roll,” “Follow Me Down,” “Witches Burn,” “Make Me Wanna Die” “Going to Hell” and “Take Me Down.” Aaron Plessinger became the seventh winner in the 450 division at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough and achieved a level of Monster Energy Supercross Series winners that has not been witnessed since 1997 Plessinger did not get the holeshot but led the field at the end of Lap 1 and never looked back in a race shortened because of conditions The race was only nine laps long; Plessinger’s success will last a lifetime Shane McElrath was easily the second strongest rider in the feature He tiptoed through the mud on the opening lap and completed it in third despite the sketchy moments that defined the entire field McElrath never has a serious issue in the race He finished 26 seconds behind Plessinger but had a margin of more than a minute on third-place which switched hands dramatically on the final lap Cooper Webb trailed his principal points rival Webb fell or was mired in mud several times during the evening and when he completed the first lap in ninth he was in jeopardy of losing significant ground in the standings Webb failed to crack the top five until the checkers waved He was as surprised as the remainder of the field Surprised might not be the way to describe Roczen’s feeling about the last-lap pass that denied him the podium He protested that Webb completed a jump on a red cross flag as the two went around a downed rider stating that he was already committed to the maneuver when the flag was employed AMA (American Motorcycle Association) officials agreed with Webb when he scored three consecutive podiums in Detroit and he was thirsty for champagne after the grueling race Roczen endured more than most of the competitors; he is racing with an extremely sore shoulder from a practice crash two weeks back Barcia is another rider who excels in the mud He was the fastest qualifier and spent the entire race in the top five With rain forecast for next week in Philadelphia he has his sights set on becoming the eighth winner of 2025 Sexton was set to make up huge ground on Webb this week He climbed to second at the completion of Lap 5 while Webb languished in sixth which would have shrunk the points differential to five he lost an additional four points and trails the leader by 15 but Sexton cannot afford to lose many more points and points standings after Round 12 at Gillette and wind turned the Foxborough Supercross into a race of survival of both man and machine Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Aaron Plessinger was untouchable in the mud and took a convincing win in the abbreviated 12-minute plus one lap Main Event It was Plessinger’s second-ever victory in the class Gillette Stadium delivered the first true mud race of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship The brutal conditions helped two new winners in 2025 rise above their competition and record the first season in the sport’s history to produce 18 different winners Quadlock Honda Racing’s Shane McElrath followed up earning his career-first Heat Race win with his career-first podium finish with a steady ride to second place Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb pulled late-race magic from his hat yet again using the final lap to turn a sixth-place position into a spot on the podium and extend his points lead in the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Chance Hymas earned the win making history as the sixth different winner in six rounds of 250SX Class racing Plessinger and Hymas’s victories contributed to making 2025 the first season in the sport’s history to deliver 18 different winners I had Cooper [Webb] to the right of me and [Justin Cooper] in front of me; when they slowed down over here to go through the ruts I just stood up on the pegs As soon as I got in the lead I knew I had to just ‘go’ and stay up but I knew Shane was right there… It’s crazy I was sitting in California [during the early rounds] not two months ago and I was like I don’t know what’s going on [with poor results].’ But I’ve just got to give it up to the whole team and for these guys to stick behind me and not stop believing in me hat’s off to them… [Thank you to] these fans for sticking it out in the rain I don’t know if I’m a fan of anything that I would stick out in pouring down rain for eight plus hours they had the best performance of the night.” – Aaron Plessinger   This week was a really good week mentally… and tonight was all about opportunity just give me traction.’ That’s all I want on the grate I almost lost it in the first corner… I want to keep this progression going… This is the first time in the 450 class where my whole program has been in unison “In these kinds of conditions you don’t know what can happen It’s so stressful when you’re leading the championship You’re hoping your motorcycle makes it first of all and then just getting into the Main you’re like ‘All right I can breathe a little bit.’ These are bummer conditions wants to race in this unless you’re [Aaron Plessinger] [Early on] I had a great pace… then I get excited let’s at least get as far up as we can.’ And that’s what happened I shut my brain off and it’s crazy what happens I’m stoked to be up here on the podium again.” – Cooper Webb “Anything is possible with these conditions I hurt it as I hurt my shoulder [15 days ago] it would twist my toe out and I kept hurting it more and more… In practice today I caught it again and it was the worst I’ve hit it going to race because it’s not getting better I ended up coming out here and giving it a whirl… Ended up fourth on the night so I couldn’t be more stoked with how the night went Chance Hymas moved into the lead just before the mid-point of the Main Event which was shorted to 8 minutes plus one lap due to the track conditions Phoenix Racing Honda’s Cullin Park earned second after riding inside the top five for most of the race The Dirt Bike Depot’s Gage Linville fought forward to third place after a start that put him outside the top 15 in the abbreviated Main Event We’ve been working our butts off to get here I took a step back this week and just tried to appreciate where I’m at I wasn’t even planning on racing [a previous round] Tampa And just to be in this position – I know these are completely different circumstances I’m so excited to have the team behind me; they’ve been working their butts off and they’ve been believing in me since Day 1 And thank you to the fans for sticking it out in the rain… [regarding his outside gate pick] Sometimes you’ve got to take chances and right now I’ve got nothing to lose Sometimes you take a shot like that and it doesn’t work sometimes it works; and for me I’d say it worked everything’s so close you’ve got to be willing to take chances like that.” – Chance Hymas I was getting a little too excited there with two laps to go Something about Foxborough and just ripping some good starts I nailed the start and [Trainer] Heath Harrison [had] told me and you’ve got a podium,’ and honestly I kind of half believed him And then I ripped a start and I said [to myself] I’m in the hunt tonight.’ I just stuck to my laps… My mechanic [signaled] ‘Just bring it home.’ Those were probably the two slowest laps I’ve ever done in my career As a kid you always dream for this moment and for it to come true is just unreal I’m just really speechless right now.” – Gage Linville Justin Rodbell on his fourth place 250SX Class finish – “I borrowed this bike from my boy Mason Kerr I worked [my HVAC job] Tuesday and Thursday You probably wouldn’t believe my schedule and what I do The Foxborough event marked the fourth Premiere Qualifying Event race of the SMX Next season which gives the top ever raced That was such a fun race… This is so hard on the bikes I heard the crowd lose their minds over in that corner It’s a wet and wild one here at Gillette Stadium for round 12 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross and SuperMotocross World Championship Rains have soaked the track but fans are still in for a treat We’re under a shortened schedule today but Aaron Plessinger and Chance Hymas took full advantage of the tough conditions Justin Cooper nailed the holeshot at the start of the 450SX Main Event The Yamaha rider ran up front on the opening lap but later suffered his struggles and finished off the box and outside the top 10 Aaron Plessinger passed for the lead on the opening lap and made a break for it The KTM rider made looked comfortable in the mud and navigated the long ruts with relative ease Plessinger led all of the nine laps and clinched his first win of the season Shane McElrath finished second in the 450 Main The Quad Lock Honda won his heat race earlier in the night and had never scored a 450 podium until tonoght He but stayed up front for the entire race and crossed the line in second place McElrath was more than 20 seconds behind Plessinger at the line Cooper Webb managed to land third on the night He was down two different times early in the race but bounced back with aggression and passed his way from sixth to third in the final few laps With another podium Webb extends his points lead back to 15 over Chase Sexton The 250 main event was shortened due to the rainy conditions Carnage started immediately as RJ Hampshire tucked the front end in the first turn and created a pileup before the racers even crossed the holeshot line led the opening laps but fell and was was overtaken by Honda HRC’s Chance Hymas Hymas kept things upright and limped his bike to the finish line without issues He claimed his first career win and is now the sixth different winner in six different rounds Cullin Park crossed the line second after navigating the tough conditions This marks a career best finish for the Phoenix Racing Honda rider Gage Linville rounded out the podium in third for his first ever podium The KTM rider made a series of passes in the closing stages and kept his machine out of trouble to bring home the final spot on the box Points leader Tom Vialle found himself on the ground and finished dead last He’s now tied in points with Seth Hammaker Hammaker and Hampshire both remounted after falling in the first turn and finished ninth and 15th respectively Riders were forced to learn the track quickly and put in a fast time with the limited qualifying sessions due to the poor weather conditions Justin Barcia grabbed the fastest time in the 450’s his first time doing so since Oakland back in 2018 Chase Sexton and Aaron Plessinger went second and third despite being one and two seconds off Barcia’s best time We’re back on the east coast for round 12 which means the 250SX East riders are on the gate The track continues to 10 Dayton Briggs and Ayden Shive were second and third overall points leader Tom Vialle qualified 31st overall The SMX Next riders got the best track of the day as the rains and bikes had yet to really destroy the track Alexander Fedortsov clocked the best time and is credited with being the fastest rider of the day Luke Fauser and Klark Robbins rounded out the podium in qualifying and Chance Hymas took advantage to become the sixth winner in six rounds of the Monster Energy Supercross 250 East season with his 32-second win over Cullin Park at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough Hymas was not certain he would ride this season when the opener in Tampa came around He struggled to finish sixth in that race and had not cracked the top five entering Foxborough He would not have been the top pick of many experts since he continues to struggle with his knee injury from 2024 but a strong start placed him third in the rundown at the completion of Lap 1 Hymas rode his own pace and refused to step over the line when he caught holeshot winner Dayton Briggs Hymas took advantage and led the remainder of the race Park scored his first career podium in the same manner as Hymas got his first win Steadily climbing from fourth on Lap 1 to second on Lap 3 he kept his bike upright while the competition around him got mired in the mud This was Park’s first top five of the season and his fourth top-10 in six rounds Gage Linville would have been happy with a top-10 in Foxborough He was shocked when the team told him he had secured the final step on the podium but Linville has had an even tougher time during the season with his previous best finish of 12th in Tampa Linville’s best career finish of 11th during his brief time in the professional ranks came last year in Philadelphia Fourth-place Justin Rodbell continued the theme of career-best finishes He may have been the least likely top-five finisher in the group because this was his first feature appearance of 2025 Daxton Bennick scored his third top-five and fourth top-10 of the season He began 2025 as a solid contender with a second-place finish in Tampa but has also struggled occasionally this season On the heels of a fifth-place finish in Birmingham Bennick has a little momentum heading into the East / West Showdown in Philly Holeshot winner Briggs fell to 17th at the checkers The bad news for Tom Vialle was his crash on the final lap and last-place finish He failed to earn any points for his effort but the good news was that his principal rivals also struggled with Seth Hammaker earning 13 for his ninth-place finish and RJ Hampshire getting only eight for his 14th-place effort who entered the round among the top five in points earned only three points (19th) and fell to sixth in the standings after being passed by Hymas and Park Heat 1Heat 2 UPDATED: Free Practice for Round 12 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough has been canceled and Qualification 2 has been moved to now start at 3:05 p.m "Stamps are like these beautiful little chauffeurs that carry "But there are millions of them every day spread across the country bringing our messages and just to be a little part of that His first thought when he was asked to do this "I felt like I won the lottery," he said "The art director said he liked how my work was sort of gentle to older people I think it was a good fit," said Stephanos Stephanos said he is a fan of White and remembers her well from her role as Sue Ann Nivens on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." He said White reminds him of his own mother The whole process from start to finish took about a year The post office gave Stephanos several photos of Betty to work from He said he worked hard to capture her mischievous humor many loved her for The popularity and widespread appeal of Betty White certainly isn't lost on him He said it took him about 10 to 15 hours to actually finish the drawing then it's back and forth with boards and committees to get approval "I start with a drawing and then I paint it in Photoshop and I do it that way because there are often changes that need to be made sort of last minute And I used to either use colored pencil or oil paint and changing that is just a whole .. it's like turning a cargo ship around," Stephanos said with this I can digitally I can just make a change and email it and within minutes and we're set to go." was representing White's love of animals and activism on their behalf "After drawing several sketches with animals and she was wearing like a paw print or animal print," Stephanos said His wife is a familiar face for long-time NBC 10 viewers Maria Stephanos was a reporter at WJAR in the mid-1990s Her outfit that day led Stephanos to this idea: a subtle paw print earring on White's right ear it's cool that there's a little secret hiding in that tiny little stamp "Purple is often associated with a protest And it's not like she was a protester but I think the animal rights activism is a form of protest on behalf of animals," Stephanos said "As far as subject matter is concerned the AP had a great headline when they first announced it And it was just after the election," he said Postal Service figures out a way to unite a divided country which I thought was just right on the money," Stephanos said Stephanos said he has been drawing as long as he can remember I'm one of those people who someone put a crayon in my hand when I was 2 or 3 and I never let go," he said "And I just kept drawing pictures and people kept saying they liked them." maybe I'll just keep doing this," Stephanos said "And it eventually turned into a job." His work has been in countless publications over the years Politics is something he's never shied away from Stephanos has worked on other stamps for the post office but the one of Betty White will be the first to be released to the public "I love using stamps to communicate messages I'll put the Ruth Bader Ginsburg stamp on there when I send something to my more liberal relatives or friends and he's got two more stamps he's working on coming out in 2026 "Having it out in the world like that is such an honor," Stephanos said I don't think I'm going to top this." Stephanos will be in Los Angeles for the official unveiling of the Betty White stamp The ceremony will be held at the Los Angeles Zoo where White was a trustee and honorary zookeeper The event will be held in a part of the zoo named for her late husband (WLNE) — The Foxborough Police Department said that part of Main Street was closed due to a car crashing into a telephone pole The closure was between Pierce Street and Cross Street and has since been reopened The department said National Grid was on scene replacing two telephone poles Here is what the riders had to say and post after Round 12 of the Monster Energy Supercross at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough 450s: “In these kinds of conditions you don’t know what can happen I’m stoked to be up here on the podium again.” 450s: “Anything is possible with these conditions definitely had speed to finish better but happy with the result after a pit stop and a couple crashes Looking forward to another one in Philly!” 450s: “Really tried to embrace the conditions Saturday even with it pissing rain all day but I can genuinely say I enjoyed it 🤠 Rode it in to my best finish of the year with an 8th been a tough season but the team and I have kept on pushing and the last two weekends have been great steps.” 450s: “P9 last night against the best in the world Hometown race next weekend in Philly let’s have fun 🤙🏻💪.” I was able to holeshot the main and then led for a lap or two Then I made a mistake in the rhythm before the finish and had to make a U-turn to the rhythm prior so that added about 20 seconds to my lap time and put me back to seventh I had another off-track excursion that they said I gained time doing 450s: “That was fun… looking for a shampoo sponsor Kevin Moranz — Finished 15th, 450s: “Ghost ride the whip😅 [Click to see the Instagram video] This was crash #2 for me in the main event had no idea what happened and obviously tough to stay straight Shane apologized and told me it was him that smashed into me… and I was like nooo way dude that was you!? He deserves every bit of that podium and I’m happy I didn’t fully ruin it for him😂.” and unfortunately had too many mistakes and tip-overs Not a big mud guy so I’m pretty happy to score some points in probably the worst mudder I’ve ever raced 😂 Spent about 3 minutes of the main event looking at my bike stuck upside down in the mud which is a bummer but we get to try again next weekend!” I wasn’t even planning on racing [the season-opener in] Tampa I nailed the start and [trainer] Heath Harrison [had] told me 250s: “I borrowed this bike from my boy Mason Kerr I’ve never really raced anything like that but I’m happy to get out of there with fifth You can’t really prepare for anything like that Qualified P3 in group A practice and was super pumped Heat race: I got a pretty sick start and went from 5th to 2nd and made a couple mistakes went down but salvaged P5 with the fastest lap of the race! Main: Man what a crazy track just tried to keep it on two wheels have fun Super happy to bring home P6 ready for more.” B practice definitely helped as track deteriorated I then went on to get 4th in my heat taking me straight into the main I had zero visibility and somehow came out 5th the mud was so deep the bike just stuck and over the bars I went I got up quick and only lost a couple spots Later the same lap I went off track and as I was coming back on I tipped over I struggled to get the bike started and lost 30-40 secs The entire day was all personal best finishes I’m so thankful to have such a hard working team behind me especially in the gnarly mud conditions we were in It started off with some changes–they cut all the practices so we only had one 10-minute qualifying session but I got docked for jumping on a red cross flag which dropped me to fifth in the A group and 17th overall I just took what the session gave me and did my best had one fall but managed to recover and finished second and I ended up hitting his bike and went flying but I got back up and worked my way through the field I went down again in the race and had some trouble getting my bike back up but I kept pushing and stayed on two wheels First turn did not go to plan and sadly not the first time that has happened 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thank you to my team and [Husqvarna Motorcycles USA] I was able to finish after all I put my bike through in that main On a night that could have been a disaster we find ourself in a much better spot than we were before the weekend [Third] in the heat race putting it straight into the main Pulled the holeshot in the main event and lead a couple of laps! I am so proud of myself with everything I have been through and I never gave up I want to give a massive thanks to my parents for sticking with me.” Missed the start in the main and then crashed a couple of times We’ll put this one behind us and move on to Philly.” I went from winning my heat race to ending up 22nd in the main event😅 I was P5 until two laps to go but i got stuck in the mud for a while… what a bummer but we will bounce back!” (WJAR) — Foxborough police said a man was sentenced to prison after he pleaded guilty to an armed bank robbery 49-year-old Louis Paris of Rockland was sentenced to six to eight years in prison on Tuesday Police said Paris was arrested after an armed robbery at the Bank of America on School Street on Sept According to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office Paris approached a teller while wearing a blue surgical mask and forced the teller to place cash into a blue drawstring bag while pointing a gun He was facing charges of armed robbery while masked and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon 2025 2:02 PM EDTFor the second week in a row the SMX track crew had to hustle to build the track quickly and get it covered—trying to keep it dry through several days of rain The riding portion of press day was canceled to give the crew time to pump water and dry it out as much as possible With temps in the mid-to-upper 60s and a slight breeze today the track should be in decent shape by tomorrow morning The race day schedule has been revised to eliminate free practice sessions Nearly half an inch of rain is expected throughout the day gravelly dirt gets super soft and rutted when wet—making for unpredictable conditions This weekend will definitely test the riders’ toughness and ability to adapt ✅ High chance of this season’s first mud race The Monster Energy Supercross Series settles into the Northeast for the next four weeks beginning with Round 12 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough The final two rounds will focus on the West in Denver From the time Foxborough returned to the schedule in 2016 this venue hosted races in alternate months with the exception of the COVID-altered 2020 season and three of them will line up this weekend Cooper Webb looks to defend not only his red plate but also the 2024 victory Chase Sexton has more momentum than Webb or Roczen with back-to-back second-place finishes With six rounds remaining and an 11-point gap between Webb and Sexton But Sexton needs to start making significant moves As WeWentFast.com points out More than one-third of his wins have margins of less than a second In a fierce battle during the race’s second half Webb beat Sexton to the line by 0.794 seconds Webb occasionally loses by thin margins also Webb has won 12 of the 22 races with a margin under a second; he finished second in four other events which means he has been part of these contests 73 percent of the time The 2025 competition between Webb and Sexton has been mostly even Both riders have 10 top-fives and a perfect record of top-10s but Webb has minimized his mistakes with only three results off the podium; two of these were fourth-place finishes Sexton has four finishes off the box with a worst result of sixth in Round 2 in San Diego Webb’s average finish in 2025 is 2.6 to Sexton’s 3.0 Cole Davies matched a record set last year by becoming the 14th unique winner in the 450 and 250 divisions combined with five each in the West and East divisions There are still 12 races in which another rider can add his name to the list with Aaron Plessinger and Justin Cooper as the best bets in the premier class Tom Vialle is the likeliest rider to add his name to the list it could happen quickly — perhaps even this week as Vialle stood on the podium in Foxborough in 2024 Triumph’s Austin Forkner and Honda’s Chance Hymas cannot be ignored One might suppose that with four rounds upcoming in the Eastern time zone, the West’s Haiden Deegan and Julien Beaumer might have a chance to cool off after last week’s post-race fireworks One would be wrong because next week’s race at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is an East / West Showdown Joey Savatgy (4 top-10s)Shane McElrath the points standings a commanding 27-point lead over David Bailey as the series rolled into Foxborough’s Schaefer Stadium for its inaugural event on April 16 seizing Heat 1 with the precision of a veteran title contender But in the unforgiving crucible of 1980s Supercross—where qualification demanded survival through Heat Races and the Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQs)—fate intervened A catastrophic transmission failure on his Suzuki during the Semi-Qualifier relegated Barnett to a Did Not Qualify (DNQ) a ruling that echoed the merciless standards of the era: fail to finish Barnett’s collapse remains a defining moment prompting a question four decades on as Gillette Stadium prepares for its latest Supercross chapter: was this the most calamitous DNQ in the sport’s 50-year history we revisit 10 of the most infamous qualification failures in Supercross lore Jeff Willoh’s 1996 season was a study in extremes The second-year rider stunned the 250SX (then 125cc) field with a San Diego triumph only to etch an ignominious footnote in Houston Starting every qualifier but faltering in each only—athlete to DNQ the round following a victory Eleven other 250SX winners have missed subsequent Main Events but nine were sidelined by injury—Nate Thrasher in 2021 wrecked in his heat race post-win while David Pingree’s 2002 Phoenix bid ended with a mangled bike in the LCQ Willoh’s failure stands alone: a collapse of execution The 1977 Houston double-header tantalized Tony DiStefano with promise “Tony D” roared back with a Heat Race clinic in Houston that outpaced the field but veterans like DiStefano seemed poised to dominate Night one delivered—a commanding win in the Astrodome for Tony D A track-cutting infraction in his Semi-Qualifier triggered a disqualification Four zero-point rounds plagued his ten-race campaign yet he finished a mere 20 points shy of third—an agonizing testament to lost potential Chad Pederson’s 1993 campaign peaked early with a Tampa Bay victory One of only ten 250SX Championship runners-up to miss a Main Event Pederson limped to 20th in his Heat Race and 17th in the LCQ watching helplessly as Doug Henry ignited a seven-race win streak to claim the title Pederson’s DNQ was less calamity than capitulation—a runner-up undone by his own inconsistency the “Rhinestone Cowboy,” was an ironman of early Supercross missing just three Main Events from 1974 to 1981 amid brutal tracks and stricter rules The 1977 Atlanta opener tested that resilience A shattered gas tank in Heat 3 sidelined him enforcing the era’s unforgiving DNQ mandate finished fourth in the consolation race—a quiet prelude to his later dominance met misfortune in the 1978 penultimate round at the Coliseum A bike locked in fourth gear forced him off track rendering him the only 450SX championship runner-up to DNQ One of nine such runners-up to miss a race Tripes’ exit underscored the mechanical roulette of the era—a single failure could erase a season’s work Few questioned Ryan Dungey’s speed in the 2007 Eastern Divisional 250SX Class An opening-round win marked him as a contender a Daytona DNQ after crashes in his Heat and LCQ and 21st in Orlando—torpedoed his title hopes Dungey’s late surge—two wins in the final three rounds—left him 35 points adrift The 1983 Seattle LCQ ranks among the fiercest ever assembled: Johnny O’Mara and Goat Breker—all titans battling for the final transfer spot O’Mara’s broken shifter ended his night early while Breker and Chandler’s collision opened the door for Burnworth’s improbable victory Ninth in the Main Event from the last gate pick Burnworth turned chaos into triumph; O’Mara simply watched Ryan Villopoto’s 26-point lead entering the 2011 Jacksonville round seemed secure—until it wasn’t A rare right-hand first turn flummoxed him leading to crashes in both his Heat and LCQ while Chad Reed (second) and Ryan Dungey (third) carved into Villopoto’s advantage James Stewart’s 18th offered little relief Reed closed to within four points by season’s end nearly transforming Villopoto’s DNQ into a title-deciding disaster Jeff Ward’s pursuit of a third 450SX title in 1986 crumbled at the opener A snapped throttle cable in Anaheim sidelined him and his bid to re-enter for a top-14 in the semi for an LCQ berth failed Ward rallied with two wins over the next five rounds but late stumbles in Phoenix and Pontiac buried his season—a championship dream derailed by a single No DNQ reverberates like Mark Barnett’s 1983 Foxborough collapse A 27-point cushion evaporated when his Suzuki’s transmission betrayed him in the Semi-Qualifier The stakes—championship implications at a venue’s debut—elevate this above all others It’s the gold standard of Supercross calamity Today’s riders enjoy reprieves unavailable to their predecessors—DNFs no longer end nights and top factory stars like Justin Barcia and Ken Roczen have turned LCQs into showcases of dominance as Gillette Stadium gears up for its fifth Foxborough Supercross on April 5 2025—40 years after Schaefer Stadium’s demolition—the ghosts of 1983 linger Barnett’s DNQ isn’t just a memory; it’s a monument to an era when the
