The Eagles and Bobcats didn't disappoint in their meeting; Glenn took a 1-0 lead into halftime

And over the years I have grown to love Wilderness Trails Animal Zoo in Birch Run
Their staff goes above and beyond to care for their animals and educate the public

So this story breaks my heart for everyone involved
a woman was attacked by a bobcat around 11:45 this morning (5/1/2025)
A witness called 911 and reported that a 30-year-old woman was bleeding from the head after the bobcat clawed her head
READ MORE: 3-Year-Old Michigan Girl Mauled by Neighbor’s Dog
In a statement released by the Saginaw County Sheriff Department
after the employee was clawed the bobcat was immediately contained by other zoo employees
She was turned over to the medical department to treat her injuries
Speaking with one of the employees on more than one occasion
one particular employee broke my fear of snakes when he put a snake around my neck for a radio broadcast
But once the snake and I got comfortable I walked around with the boa constrictor around my neck for about 20 minutes
Even my friend won't go in that cage unless he absolutely has to
But there is always an inherent danger when working with large animals
These people have such a love for animals that they literally risk their lives doing what they do
I truly wish the employee a speedy recovery and thank the staff that stepped in
this situation could have been a lot worse

FRANKENMUTH — More than 100 snow and ice sculptures will line the streets of Frankenmuth during an annual winter event that transforms the popular Michigan destination into a wonderland
Zehnder’s Snowfest is scheduled for Wednesday-Sunday
The event has been around for more than three decades
vice president of sales and marketing at Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth
The popular restaurant is located at 730 S
when Zehnder’s was exploring ways to bring additional business downtown in the winter
Shelton was approached by Bill Doring and Pete Rumsey
The first Snowfest took place in 1992 and drew more than 90,000 people
“We weren’t used to having 2,000 people in Frankenmuth in the wintertime,” Shelton said
but we didn’t know it was going to work at that level.”
Snowfest includes a variety of snow sculpting competitions
as well as ice carving exhibitions and challenges — not to mention an all-things-chocolate baking contest
An annual fireworks display is slated for 6:45 p.m
There's a children's play area with a free petting zoo
“It's really grown to be one of the premier snow and ice carving events in the Midwest," Shelton said
who operates Hargash Artist Studio in Frankenmuth
has been involved with Snowfest since its inception
He was 17 at the time and formed a team with other 17-year-olds to create a sculpture of cherubs
“My first attempt was not my greatest attempt,” Hargash admitted
“It was a learning process throughout the years of how to go about carving snow."
Hargash participates and helps children sculpt
usually through cold and wintry conditions
to turn their ideas into larger-than-life realities
“I think (Snowfest) consistently brings in good artists to do these pieces,” Hargash said
“I think they consistently bring out a good crowd to check out the arts
I think you give people a good excuse to come to Frankenmuth.”
John Martinez is an artist from nearby Bridgeport
Martinez won the World Class Double Block Snow Sculpting Championship in 2021
Martinez said sculpting with snow is a "process of elimination."
“You’re taking material away from the block and moving toward what you envision," he said
Martinez said the event brings the snow and ice carving community together
“It’s quite brutal sometimes with the temperatures
Snowfest brings in some of the best professional snow and ice carvers in the country and around the world
“Your greatest form of advertisement is word of mouth ..
Snowfest is staffed by Zehnder’s employees
restaurants and hotels help accommodate carvers and visitors to make the event a success
“It's brought a very economic kick to the entire Frankenmuth community,” Shelton said

Several people experienced respiratory problems following a chemical leak at Zehnder’s Splash Village indoor waterpark in Frankenmuth.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (March 4) morning.
According to Zehnder, the incident involved a pool chemical feeding system malfunction, reportedly releasing more chemicals into the waterpark.
As a result, some visitors began to experience symptoms and required medical evaluation.
The Saginaw County Hazardous Materials Team was called in to monitor the air quality at the waterpark.
Meanwhile, the staff took immediate action by flushing the pools and evacuating guests to ensure their safety.

We are pleased to share that Frankenmuth Insurance has earned a top 15 ranking in the CRASH Network’s 2025 Insurer Report Card
Frankenmuth Insurance was the 15th highest-rated auto insurer based on claims handling for motorists
Frankenmuth Insurance received an overall grade of “B” and an overall score of 871
which is significantly higher than the national average of 663
fair claims service is our promise to policyholders,” shares Beth Wright
“We continue to receive stellar feedback from our policyholders and maintain a high claims satisfaction rating of 95%
This is affirmed by our CRASH Network ranking
and it’s an honor to be included in the list for the fifth consecutive year.”
The CRASH Network Insurer Report Card is a tool to help consumers make informed decisions about their choice of auto insurers
This annual report is developed by surveying more than 1,100 collision repair professionals nationwide and asking respondents to grade auto insurance companies they do business with
based on one question: How well does this company’s claims handling policies
and payment practices ensure quality repairs and customer service for motorists
Drivers often have few tools to help them make informed decisions about their choice of auto insurance providers
That may lead some to choose based primarily on price (possibly without a true apples-to-apples comparison) or a company they’re aware of because it spends millions of dollars a year on advertising

“We have three girls on the floor (Clare Conzelmann
Izzy Bernthal) who played at the Breslin Center
telling each other what they needed to do ..
Frankenmuth pulled away a little more in the third to take a 38-29 lead into the fourth quarter
Clare Conzelmann and Macy Donovan opened the fourth quarter with 3-pointers to extend the lead to 44-29
The Eagles called a timeout with 4:17 remaining and holding a 46-33 lead
opting to slow the game down and force Gladstone to foul
Frankenmuth was 10 of 14 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter
“Macy’s and Clare’s 3-pointers were really big to get us the big lead,” Jacobs said
So we went into a 2-1-2 stall to slow it down and make them come and foul us
we took care of the ball and made free throws.”
Clare Conzelmann led the Eagles with 19 points
made four 3-pointers and finished with 13 off the bench
but she has really stepped up in the last seven or eight games
But she’s a tenacious defender and made some big shots for us.”
Freshman Macy Donovan added 12 points and nine rebounds with Bernthal scoring seven points with eight rebounds
while Rosemary Brenner grabbed five rebounds with three assists and two blocked shots
“We did some good things in transition early,” Jacobs said
“And we did a good job defensively not giving up offensive rebounds and second-chance points.”
Gladstone star Lily Johnson led all scorers with 21 points
but we didn’t know where they were going to put her against our matchup zone,” Jacobs said
“We felt if we could keep them under 40 points
we would be able to score more than that even if we don’t shoot well.”
Frankenmuth reached the Division 2 state final in 2023
falling to Lansing Catholic Central in the final with Clare Conzelmann
Reserve center Julia Rodriguez was also on the 2023 team

Saturday at the Breslin Center against the winner of the semifinal game between Grand Rapids West Catholic (23-3) and Detroit Edison (19-6)

MI – When Joe Jacobs talks about the family atmosphere on the Frankenmuth girls basketball team
The Eagles take a 22-4 record into a Division 2 quarterfinal game against Gladstone at 7 p.m
Tuesday at Cheboygan High School with a roster full of similar names
Frankenmuth features three pairs of sisters: Clare and Lucy Conzelmann
Rosemary and Grace Brenner and Mya and Macy Donovan
and it’s been a blessing for us this year,” Jacobs said
“And that’s because of the families they come from
and that makes it special because there’s potential for issues with that many sisters
All three pairs come from basketball families
Kate (Johnson) Conzelmann played for Frankenmuth’s 1992 Class B state championship team
Mya and Macy Donovan’s mother is Tessa (Taylor) Donovan
who played for Freeland’s 1998 Class C state championship team
Their father is Frankenmuth boys basketball coach Andy Donovan
And the Brenners have watched their brothers also star at Frankenmuth
“The apple doesn’t fall from far from the tree,” Jacobs said
“The Donovans come from a basketball household
The Brenners have two fantastic parents and are from an athletic family
they are supportive of their daughters and the team
You’re not going to hear from them complaining about something
and it’s been even better than we expected.”
“Sometimes we get mad at each other like when we’re on opposite teams in scrimmages,” Clare Conzelmann said
“It can get a little messy and sometimes it goes a little overboard
“But I always have someone to talk to about basketball at home
I always have that someone on the team with a special connection
I think we have a deeper connection than a lot of teams
I would rather have it this way than any other way.”
Clare Conzelmann is a senior starter who has signed to play for Lake Superior State
while Lucy Conzelmann is a sophomore and key player off the bench
and we’ve played basketball together for a really long time,” Lucy Conzelmann said
“There might be instances where we get really mad with each other
When things get heated in practice and we need to calm down
with Rosemary Brenner a senior post player and Grace Brenner a sophomore point guard
“It keeps things entertaining on the court
I’m not going to lie,” Rosemary Brenner said
Everybody has those days when ‘I just don’t want to speak to her right now.’ But we get it and move on
Sometimes there are times when I don’t think she’s listening to me
But that definitely goes the other way sometimes too.”
she has more control over the basketball game than most little sisters
“Sometimes we disagree but a lot of times it’s because we see the court differently because I’m a point guard and she’s more of a post player,” Grace Brenner said
“Our parents raised us to be problem-solvers
so it’s not like an argument where you’re trying to be right and you want the other person to be wrong
It’s more like we’re coming together from different sides to find the best solution.”
Mya Donovan is a junior post player who comes off the bench
while Macy Donovan starts as a 6-foot freshman
“Me and my sister have always gotten along great … she pulls me out of my comfort zone,” Mya Donovan said
She’s played a lot of basketball on her own
so it’s really cool being able to play on the same team with her.”
The little sisters also benefited by following their older sisters
“Having all the sisters is great because of the chemistry we have,” Macy Donovan said
I’m pretty competitive and things can happen
but Mya is the person that will make me laugh
“I would play up in age while I was growing up
and I think the other little sisters did too
So we were always playing with our older sisters against older players
I’ve played on the same team as Clare and Lucy and Grace when I was younger
Those relationships will change next season
Rosemary Brenner and Clare Conzelmann will graduate
leaving just the Donovans carrying the sisters banner
but we’ll have to learn how to build it with each other instead of having our sisters around to help us,” Macy Donovan said
but with the relationships we’ve built this season
it advances to the Division 2 semifinals at 5:30 p.m
Friday against the Goodrich-Tecumseh quarterfinal winner
All semifinals and finals are at Michigan State University’s Breslin Center
“One of the other positives about having the sisters is that they’re great leaders
which helps us out as coaches,” Jacobs said
“It always helps hearing something from one of your peers instead of your coaches
“All six of those sisters do well in the classroom
but there haven’t been any with these sisters
Winner advances to semifinal game at 5:30 p.m
winner of quarterfinal between Goodrich (23-3) and Tecumseh (24-1)
Winner advances to semifinal game at noon Thursday vs
winner of quarterfinal game between Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest (19-6) and Sandusky (24-2)

Frankenmuth finally broke through the Grand Rapids Catholic Central roadblock
But it took the Man in Black – and blue – to lead them
scored three touchdowns – including Frankenmuth’s first and last of the game – as the Eagles held off the defending state champion for a 42-35 win in a Division 5 semifinal Saturday at Mount Pleasant High School
but he plays with a big heart,” Frankenmuth coach Phil Martin said
He was kind of nicked up to finish the game
he made a big play to convert a first down and keep the chains moving and keep the clock moving
“We had quite a few players on that last drive make big plays
We’re hoping to get healthy for next week.”
The 13-0 Eagles play for the Division 5 state championship at 4 p.m
Saturday at Ford Field against 11-1 Pontiac Notre Dame Prep
Frankenmuth had lost all four meetings with Grand Rapids Catholic Central
including back-to-back 35-0 shutout losses in the 2023 and 2021 semifinals
Frankenmuth didn’t have to worry about another shutout
Tedford took the pitch and ran 77 yards for a touchdown and a Frankenmuth lead
that touchdown was easier than I expected,” Tedford said
“The linemen did a great job of blocking it perfectly
The big run led to a dominating first half
with the Eagles running for 325 yards in the half
“The very first play was something that we’ve seen on film
but we knew we had to take care of the linebackers,” Martin said
“Their linebackers are some of the best in the state
and we were able to turn the corner and get north and south quick.”
Catholic Central answered with a 2-yard run by Dale Grant Jr.
but Frankenmuth came back with a 3-yard TD run by Tedford and a 93-yard run by Aiden Labissoniere for a 21-7 first-quarter lead
I didn’t have the guys ready to play in the first quarter
from the first play of the game,” Catholic Central coach Todd Kolster said
“Our guys know we just have to do our jobs
We got caught up too much early on from a defensive perspective and offensive perspective just overthinking things a little bit too much.”
Frankenmuth tacked on a 65-yard TD run by Lleyton Hoard for a 28-7 halftime lead
with the defense coming up with a TD-saving sack on the final play of the first half after the Cougars reached the Frankenmuth 7-yard line
An 11-yard TD pass from Spencer to Jamison Williams cut the Frankenmuth lead to 28-21
“They made some adjustments in the second half and packed the box a little more,” Martin said
I was pretty proud of them to be able to do that.”
Frankenmuth was able to answer after Tedford ran for a 17-yard gain on fourth-and-2
Catholic Central came back on the first drive of the fourth quarter
scoring on a 17-yard pass from Spencer to Ace Notte to cut the Frankenmuth lead to 34-28 with 8:56 remaining in the game
But the Eagles had some answers of their own
putting together a drive that consumed more than seven minutes
with Hoard hitting Caleb Morgan for an 8-yard pass on third-and-7
Tedford added an 8-yard run on third-and-6 to set up a 4-yard TD run
Morgan ran in the 2-point conversion for a 42-28 lead with 1:39 remaining
That was plenty of time for Catholic Central to score one touchdown
Catholic Central took a little more than a minute to score on a 30-yard pass from Spencer to Grant Jr
to cut the lead to 42-37 with 27.8 seconds remaining
But Frankenmuth recovered the onside kick to clinch the victory
they executed at a higher level than we did
and that’s why they were able to capitalize in those situations
Catholic Central ends the season with an 8-5 record that included a memorable playoff run that included a pair of thrilling wins over Grand Rapids West Catholic
it can come back to bite you,” Kolster said
but at the end of the day I’ve got to do a better job.”
Frankenmuth held the Catholic Central run game to just 38 yards
Michigan State commit Derrick Simmons and Carson Bouvy had 1.5 sacks each
including eight to the 6-foot-4 Williams for 195 yards
“He’s one of the best football players in the state of Michigan
and he’s never gotten enough credit,” Kolster said
and he’s the all-time leading receiver in our school’s history
But what he’s done on the football field is pretty amazing.”
and when he made that catch in the back of the end zone
all 200 pounds of him came down right on top of me,” Tedford said
you almost have to try to go for the ball on the way down because you’re not going to reach him at his high point
I think we did a pretty good job against him
“The quarterback put the ball in the right spot for him to make plays
and he’s a heck of a receiver,” Martin said
“Our kids had pretty good coverage on him all day
We were close to knocking a couple of the ball out
Frankenmuth’s ground game gained 463 yards with three 100-yard rushers
Tedford finished with 147 yards on 10 carries
Labissoniere added 113 yards on six carries
Hoard also completed all three of his passes for 18 yards
Brady Lipka led the Frankenmuth defense with 11 tackles
Tanner Kroeger and Tedford added seven tackles each
Frankenmuth will make its third trip to the state finals
with the seniors making their second trip to the finals with four semifinal appearances
“This is a group of kids that has gotten to experience quite a bit,” Martin said
“For them to be able to go back as seniors is a big deal
Tedford is only a junior but has a certain mystique about him thanks to his first name
The Eagles’ pre-game music even includes a Cash classic
“My parents were big fans … that’s why they named me Cash,” Tedford said
Ready to walk the line into the state final ring of fire

Police this weekend solved part of a mystery that has been making national headlines: Where did a 52-year-old Michigan father disappear to just after Christmas
But they are still investigating the rest: Why did he die
after last being seen at a family gathering at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth
His body was finally found Saturday afternoon nearby in the icy Cass River by a dive team
The preliminary cause of death: drowning
a Navy veteran who also went by his middle name
He went to change his clothes and was going to meet one of his two daughters
the nation has been captivated by Bacon’s disappearance
a mystery that was reported by news outlets across Michigan and the nation
published a version of the sensational story
the local police department said it — and more than a dozen other agencies — had frantically searched for him
even using dogs and drones to try to track and locate him
How Bacon — a 5-foot-7 guy with blue eyes and gray hair — ended up in the river is baffling
he was feeling upbeat and left the hotel undetected by surveillance cameras
More: Police finally solve homicide of 7-year-old Michigan boy after 65 years
that he liked nature and tended to "check things out."
In a Facebook post on Sunday
McLenna said that she had "no words to describe how we feel" and thanked "everyone that helped look for Robert thank you to all that prayed for us and that are continuing to pray for us."
Not long after that, she added:
"I am turning off my phone we need to have time together without the phone
we as a family really appreciate everything
We'll have more updates as to the next steps soon."
McLenna said earlier in the week in news reports that Bacon went to move his car
and that video shows him going to the inn’s fun center
She also said their younger daughter told her Bacon was in "a great mood," and the ex-wife speculated that he might have gone outside because he loves nature
She added she "wouldn’t put it past him to come outside to smoke a cigarette and walk along that river."

It's the holiday season in Michigan and one of the most festive and beloved places to visit in the state is Frankenmuth
Michigan's Little Bavaria came to life in the middle of the state in the 1840s when a German congregation formed a colony along the Cass River to show Native Americans "how wonderful it is to live with Jesus," according to Frankenmuth.org
The colonists pleged to remain loyal to Bavaria and the German language and their traditons
businesses and people who carry on its German heritage
German immigration to the area continued as friends and relatives of the settlers also came to Frankenmuth and helped cement the legacy
It all started with mills and production of beer

Frankenmuth had every reason to feel good about a second trip to the state final in three seasons
going on a 27-5 run to snare a 52-43 win in a Division 2 girls basketball semifinal Friday at Michigan State University’s Breslin Center
the same shots they took and missed in the first half,” Frankenmuth coach Joe Jacobs said
We didn’t get there on some missed assignments because we’re looking at two 6-2 girls and we’re trying to battle down there
“The other three players kind of escaped us in the third quarter
Frankenmuth held a 30-20 lead with 4:43 remaining in the third quarter when Tecumseh star Alli Zajac went to the bench with her third foul
But the Indians thrived with their Miss Basketball candidate on the bench
to tie the game at 32-32 going into the fourth quarter
Ashlyn Moorehead keyed the third-quarter run
The 5-foot-5 senior had three points in the first half but finished with 14
“She stepped into beast mode in the second half,” Tecumseh coach Kristy Zajac said
She was able to shoot the ball with confidence in the second half.”
The 26-1 Indians went on a 15-3 run to start the second half to create a double-digit lead
“We thought we’d have to score 60 to have an opportunity
Frankenmuth held Miss Basketball finalist Alli Zajac to six points and five rebounds
but her sister Addie Zajac was a dominant force near the basket Addie Zajac scored 16 points with 14 rebounds
with the Indians grabbing 16 offensive rebounds
“You know you have to have some breaks and some opportunities
with Rosemary Brenner grabbing seven rebounds
“Coach was generous saying we’re 5-9 … we’re more like 5-5 and 5-6 so we knew it was going to be a struggle because she’s so much bigger than us
but she was able to move us or go over us.”
It was nothing new for the 6-foot sophomore
“She’s one of the best rebounders I’ve ever seen,” Kristy Zajac said
She just knows where the ball is going when it goes up
“I tell these kids if you can get a shot off
we know we have Addi underneath because she’s going to get those boards
If they don’t call fouls like they have been in this whole tournament
Addi Zajac credits an extra sense that is genetic
some of my cousins we have what we kind of call our superpower where we can see where the ball’s going to go whenever we miss,” Addi Zajac said
“We all think that we all just have the ability.”
Clare Conzelmann led the 23-5 Eagles with 15 points
“Waking up tomorrow is going to be hard,” Jacobs said
we’re going to smile and look back at all the memories we made
Izzy Bernthal and Julia Rodrriguez – played on Frankenmuth’s state finalist team in 2023
“Rosemary and I talked before the game and said this feels different than the first time,” Bernthal said
“It’s a great feeling to end your season here because you’re one of the top four teams
Conzelmann and Bernthal) started basketball together and we get to finish it out
I wouldn’t want to go out with anyone else.”
