So the Galt family doesn’t like elk – at least when they can’t sell trophy bulls
Wylie Galt has brought his latest elk slaughter bill
It should be titled the “Galt Family Protection Act,” because the Galts sell trophy bulls
when they’re supposedly overrun with elk because no cows were taken
they want to kill off hundreds to prevent crop damage
with no provisions for public access during the general season
Call it what you want – it’s a pure game ranching scheme straight out of an African game farm or European aristocrat’s estate
it’s worse because the Galts want to charge for the cow elk hunts
Sounds like a case of good old-fashioned special interest and welfare for them
Kristen Juras – who happens to be a Galt
and please be reminded the Galts were the first to sue Montana over the stream access law
I can't imagine they've completely given up on that either
Say goodbye to public hunting as this cancer spreads throughout our state
JW Westerman writes, \"Sen. Wylie Galt has brought his latest elk slaughter bill, SB 270. It should be titled the “Galt Family Protection Act,” because the Galts sell trophy bulls, period!\"\nRead More

a bill that would lift the reasonable cap of three elk per hunter per year
and allow an unlimited number of elk to be shot by one person
his latest attempt to privatize elk and diminish public access programs
The Galt family is the third largest landowner in the state
Wylie is a founding board member of the Montana Conservation Society
a newly formed landowner and outfitter group
whose lobbyist wrote SB 270. The junque files make this clear
What’s also clear is that roughly 81.8 percent of licensed elk hunters in Montana end the season with no elk
only .2 percent shoot the maximum allowed three elk in a license year
A cow elk averages around 170 pounds of boneless meat - and bulls are even larger
So who would want - or need - to shoot more than three elk - or 500 pounds of meat - per year
It’s about wanting to own a public resource and not having to deal with peasant hunters
Despite the fact that 4 out of 5 elk hunters in Montana don’t harvest an elk
and that shoulder seasons allow elk to be hunted six months a year
Galt and some landowners like him would rather hoard elk and sell outfitted hunts
and then cull them by the hundreds when they become a nuisance
rather than participating in one of the many programs that FWP already offers - tools like the Hunt Roster Damage Hunts
House Bill 497 increased the cap from two elk per person per year to three
because elk abundance isn’t a license problem; it’s an access problem
it’s because a lawsuit recently challenged all this in court
FWP - along with a handful of intervening sportsmen groups - successfully defended the case
A judge ruled that landowners have plenty of tools to address problematic concentrations of elk
and not to participate in elk management efforts
then they can't demand additional recourse
that’s exactly what SB 270 is attempting to do
If the bill passes and Wylie Galt and the Montana Conservation Society get their way
it will remove the need to use the other tools that FWP offers
the ones that provide public access and opportunity
doesn’t have to look far for other management approaches
does exactly that by allowing FWP’s drones to be used in more instances to haze elk off of private lands where they’re unwelcome; yet another tool offered to landowners
Instead of encouraging a small few to slaughter an ungodly number of elk
we should be focusing on how to get more hunters more opportunities to harvest a public resource and fill their freezers
Ask your state Senator to Halt Galt’s SB 270
Greg Munther writes, \"Instead of encouraging a small few to slaughter an ungodly number of elk, we should be focusing on how to get more hunters more opportunities to harvest a public resource and fill their freezers.\"\nRead More

Ill-fated CP heritage SD70ACU 7011 leads a trio of GEs as it heads Train 134 through Streetsville
the 7011 and another SD70 met their demise in a derailment not long after this photo was taken

Even with four units on the head end, it is no easy task to move heavy Train 231 up the grade toward the reservoir at Mountsburg. Beyond there, the roller coaster profile of the Galt Sub will keep the hogger busy all the way to London, Ont., and the next crew change.
ABOVE: A snowstorm has rolled in as CP local H24 begins working Ardent Mills in Streetsville on December 27, 2021. Ardent Mills has a long history dating back to the incorporation of the village.
Unlike competitor CN, which operates a similar routing for bridge traffic between Toronto and Chicago, CP is forced to rely on Norfolk Southern trackage rights between Detroit and Chicago. CN has the fortune of using its Grand Trunk Western to reach Chicago from Port Huron.
ABOVE: RIGHT TOP: It is not uncommon for CP and Ontario Southland trains to meet at Woodstock. A number of years ago, OSR took over CP’s former St. Thomas and Port Burwell subdivisions and now interchanges with CPKC at Woodstock. On April 16, 2016, OSR had both of its former Railink FP9s in charge of its road train as crews exchange paperwork with CP’s H88.

Die Hard on a Taco Truck had creativity of place
The Bourne clones all try to vary on the twist of the protagonist’s identity
They all look and feel the same because it doesn’t matter what your murder hobo’s first act back story is once they’re all just wandering around random European cities blowing shit up while they’re sad and being chased by other professional murder hobos
Bourne but he’s a Nerd doesn’t do anything we haven’t seen 16 times before and certainly doesn’t do them better
It turns out that arbitrary techno nightclubs in Marseilles untz untz untzs in the dark about the same regardless of whether the murder dude with too many passports is a tech whiz or an amnesiac
and he takes it upon himself to go kill the bad guys
Rachel Brosnahan is wasted as the obligatory perfect wonderful amazing beautiful wife who serves as the aforementioned fridgee in order for the plot to happen
She shows up constantly in flashbacks and imagined somber encounters in passing just so that you cannot possibly forget why Rami is running around committing felonies
if her character were in the movie any more
it’d legally be required to be classified as a ghost movie
There’s a whole thing about corrupt CIA officials looking the other way for
I zoned out during their half ass plagiarism of Colonel Jessup’s justifications for being murder dicks
the guys who are supposed to do their job won’t
Printer Fixer has to go out into the field as an avenging angel while being hunted by his own side
He can’t shoot and is bad at basically everything an international man of mystery should be good at
which means that he can hack into anything with electrons
sneak across international borders with impunity
watch any camera feed anywhere in the world from any phone
build bombs out of whatever he can find in random bathrooms
install bugs that somehow transmit out of secure facilities to his earbud anywhere in the world
I could go on but it’s just fucking stupid at some point
It’s so over the top that it had the makings of a comedy
if it didn’t take itself so incredibly over the top seriously
There is not one moment of poking fun at itself or taking a beat to just laugh at the absurdity of the entire situation
Rami Malek’s acting ability is also wasted since his only stage direction was to sleepwalk through the death of his wife as if channeling Eeyore at all times
A movie should not take itself this seriously unless it is about orphaned dogs with cancer featuring a Sarah McLachlan soundtrack
The movie creepily fetishizes the insane American surveillance state and its ability to technically worm into anything and everything around the world
But even as it winds its tendrils after the protagonist
it is only seen as a cool tool for him to triumphantly co-opt because he’s even better at the tech than his coworkers
The movie has a full chubby for Orwellian techno-fascism
and its only critique is that the state isn’t murdering the right people in the streets
there’s nothing for a hero to do but go Galt and blow a few buildings
he gets his job back at the end and nothing changes except cycling out who gets to put names on the murder list
The Amateur has ample talent and budget to be a decent movie if it had at any point decided to be anything but exactly what it is
it could have been a vehicle for Bernthal (or a more present but equally wasted Laurence Fishbourne) helping the guy in over his head through everything
It could have been a running commentary on the American intelligence industrial complex’s infiltration into everything
overly serious Bourne rip-off that is too stupid to be a thriller and too somber to be entertaining
