82-73 road victory over the Wolverines Oxon Hill junior point guard Ronald Polite finished with a team-high 18 points keep my team intact and make great plays for my team,” Polite said “If I’m doing good moving the ball and they are knocking down shots then I have to try and get a bucket…Whatever is best for my team.” The first half of the game was tightly contested The Wolverines were the aggressors in the beginning as they fed off the home crowd and got off to a fast start Potomac closed out the first period with a four-point lead (17-13) Oxon Hill played well enough to tie the game up at 35 by halftime “We weren’t rotating well enough on defense in the first half,” said junior combo guard Michael Sumner “Our defense picked up in the second half really well.” Not only did the defense for Oxon Hill pick up after halftime but the offense did as well They looked like an entirely different team than they did in the first half A big part of that second-half surge was due to the play of senior forward Marcus Gorham After a rough first half due to some turnovers Gorham scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half “I just wanted to win the game,” Gorham said “We haven’t beat them in the last two years They went more pass and spread out in their zone in the second half rebound and do whatever else I need to do.” Oxon Hill had their best period in the third when they scored 24 and held Potomac to just 17 points Senior guard Kalonji Parker was a key contributor to that third quarter success with his play on both sides of the ball Parker finished the game with 17 points (five three-pointers) and four steals I’m just a run and shoot guy,” Parker said pitch it to me and I am ready to shoot all the time Oxon Hill sealed the deal as they went up by as much as 15 points Potomac made a strong effort in the closing minutes as they cut the lead down to single digits Potomac was led by senior point guard Sincere Jones and junior guard Corey Dyches who scored 18 points Senior forward Jorarei Bile was the X-factor in this game Bile is known as a defensive specialist but finished the game with 17 points which was tied for second highest on his team “My teammates were setting me up today,” Bile said In the first half we were kind of gambling on plays “We are just trying to continue to build off successes,” Oxon Hill Head Coach Lewis Howard said “Winning this game propels us to the next game “We need just need to improve on rebounding the basketball I thought in the second half we did a better job at rebounding the basketball and that created opportunities for us in transition Your browser is out of date and potentially vulnerable to security risks. We recommend switching to one of the following browsers: Get up-to-the-minute news sent straight to your device there are reports of babies being rushed to hospitals and a growing black market for formula A baby formula shortage sweeping the US that has trigged a political crisis for Joe Biden is continuing to distress parents caregivers and medical professionals as they still find the vital product difficult to obtain chief medical officer and vice-president of Texas Children’s Pediatrics and Texas Children’s Urgent Care said pediatric practices are receiving phone calls from worried parents about where to find formula and which kinds are acceptable for their babies Spinner said not having the right formula can lead to developmental problems for babies especially for those with special metabolic needs Their nutritional needs are very different If babies don’t get the right type of nutrition You don’t just simply give a young baby cow’s milk It’s not a sufficient way of giving them their nutrition,” he said Reports of babies being rushed to emergency rooms after consuming homemade or diluted formulas show the importance of proper nutrition for infants especially those with special dietary needs This week, the Michigan-based baby formula manufacturer, Abbott, resumed operations at a production plant that was previously shut down after four infants that consumed Abbott-made formula developed bacterial infections Only a handful of companies are responsible for the production of all baby formula in the US calling into question the power they have over an essential product Abbott is the country’s largest baby formula producer – producing about 50% of baby formula to US consumers – and the plant’s temporary closure launched a wave of supply shortages across the market Widely criticized as being slow to react to the issue Biden eventually invoked the Emergency Defense Production Act on 18 May and instructed private companies to ramp up production and for more baby formula to be imported from other countries the administration’s plan even included the use of Department of Defense aircraft to transport the formula overseas in order to speed up delivery the first Operation Fly formula shipment was delivered to Indiana and the second shipment of about 1m 8-ounce bottles was delivered to Virginia Three more shipments will be sent to Pennsylvania The FDA announced it was also taking steps to increase supply 8-ounce bottles of Nestle’s Gerber Good Start Gentle formula from Mexico but the production and import will take weeks Abbott is focusing on the production of EleCare a specialty formula for infants who cannot tolerate other types The company announced it will soon focus on producing the popular brand Similac and other formulas Spinner said parents and caregivers should ask a pediatrician if they cannot find any for their baby because like Texas Children’s other practices may be able to request formula directly from manufacturers like Abbott consuming the wrong formula can lead to diarrhea heart and lungs are rapidly developing early on if they’re not getting the right type of nutrition they’re not necessarily going to develop in a healthy way So it’s not just you’re sick for a while and you’re okay It can very much have those long term consequences,” Spinner said But for babies on generic formulas like Similac Spinner urges parents to consider other brands if their go-to is unavailable and to always consult with a pediatrician before switching there’s really no consequence going from brand A to brand B The difference is if you’re talking about a different kind of formula.” 2014 at 12:51 pm
