CT — Glastonbury has been named one of the best places to live in the state of Connecticut — twice — in an annual ranking compiled by Niche.com
West Hartford was again named the best place to live in Connecticut
in the latest set of rankings released by Niche on Monday
Now in its 11th year, the ranking from the data-driven platform Niche is designed to help everyone from young people just starting their careers or families to retirees decide where they want to live
The report analyzes places of various sizes
including cities with populations of 100,000 or more
Niche said "Glastonbury Center" was described as "a suburb of Hartford with a population of 7,860
Glastonbury Center is in Hartford County and is one of the best places to live in Connecticut
Living in Glastonbury Center offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes
In Glastonbury Center there are a lot of restaurants
Many retirees live in Glastonbury Center and residents tend to lean liberal
The public schools in Glastonbury Center are highly rated." Schools received an A+ grade
The housing market was rated A- and receiving a B grade were nightlife and diversity
"Glastonbury" was cited as having 35,136 people
The same grades were assigned to the same categories
The rankings are based on a wide range of public data sources
and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
combined with millions of resident reviews
Towns are listed more than once all over the rankings
just about every neighborhood in Greenwich is listed as a separate entity
Niche said Community attributes considered in developing the list included the health of the local housing market, neighborhood diversity, area public schools and walkability, among others. (More on methodology.)

CT — A an intoxicated woman is facing a criminal charge after being removed from a street in Glastonbury
GPD officers responded to the area of Howe and Manchester Roads after receiving a report about an intoxicated woman in the road
who became uncooperative and refused to identify herself
She was arrested and charged with interfering with police and later identified as a 54-year-old Glastonbury resident
She also had an active warrant out of Hartford

CT — A pedestrian was seriously hurt over the weekend after a collision with a vehicle in Glastonbury
along the 100 block of Glastonbury Boulevard
Initial responding police officers and an EMS crew provided medical care to the pedestrian at the scene and the person was then transported to an area hospital with serious injuries
The pedestrian has not been identified by police
The Glastonbury Police Traffic Unit and the Metro Traffic Services regional accident reconstruction team are investigating just what happened
but a preliminary report indicates that the pedestrian was crossing Glastonbury Boulevard from north to south
and was struck by a vehicle traveling west
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation
Glastonbury Boulevard was closed in both directions for a several hours during the initial investigation

CT — The boat launch parking lot at Riverfront Park in Glastonbury is back open
It had been closed because of high waters in the Connecticut River
flooding in the parking area prompted town officials to place barricades there and ask residents to refrain from attempting to access the boat launch until the waters receded
they said the water had gone down to a safe level

CT — A crew team training in the Connecticut River hauled a driver to safety after his car splashed into the water Wednesday afternoon
Initial police calls alerted authorities to an "erratic driver" heading to Riverfront Park on Welles Street
a BMW being driven by an "adult male" from Hartford
somehow ended up careening down the boat launch and into the river
the driver managed to crawl out the driver's side window and perch himself on the door
That's when a support boat from a nearby crew team picked the man up and brought him safely to the riverbank
The man was taken to an area hospital for evaluation
Local and CREST dive teams converged on the area
as did the Glastonbury police and fire departments
Police are still investigating the circumstances
the Riverfront Park Boat launch re-opened Thursday after a short closure because of low water levels
"Boaters are urged to use caution as the water level is still lower than usual
The town will continue to monitor the water level at the launch on a daily basis to determine if it's safe for public use," officials said

CT — The Riverfront Park Boat launch in Glastonbury re-opened Thursday
Town officials said boaters are being urged to use caution as the water level in the Connecticut River is still "lower than usual."
Ironically, a vehicle sped down the ramp Wednesday and wound up in the water. The driver was safely rescued by a safety boat from a nearby rowing team that was training in the river, police said. See the story here
