Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A Metro) resumed running trains throughout the nine-mile Glendora to Pomona extension corridor in preparation for passenger service Trains will continue to run on and off until full pre-revenue operations begin in the next few months at which point trains will be running at full-service levels Metro has not yet announced the start date for passenger service Metro and the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority (Construction Authority) continue to work on final preparations for passenger service including final systems integration testing safety and occupancy certification processes Although the project is substantially complete and turned over to L.A. Metro the Construction Authority and KPJV continue to work alongside L.A Metro’s teams to support efforts to prepare the line for passenger service as well as continue to complete punch list items throughout the corridor and station areas.  Some of these final elements will enhance the station experience for future riders such as the landscaping that now adorns the walkways and station areas Nearly all of the hundreds of native and drought-tolerant shrubs and trees have been planted throughout the station areas where future riders will walk park or wait for pick-up by the new station platforms In addition to enhancing the visual aesthetics of the station areas reduce urban heat island effects and provide a permeable surface for stormwater to infiltrate.  many of the walkways to the stations are enhanced with decorative pavers and will provide walking access to the station platforms from nearby major streets.  with the support from the Construction Authority and KPJV continues to conduct emergency drills and safety education for its team and area first responders Another series of emergency drills took place earlier this month at the Glendora Station and within the corridor southeast of Route 66 More drills will continue to take place in the weeks and months ahead Metro and first responders discuss and go over different emergency scenarios.  One person died and six people were displaced when a fire heavily damaged a three-story building in Gloucester Township on Wednesday night The blaze was reported at approximately 8:10 p.m at 410 North Black Horse Pike in the Glendora area Firefighters arrived to find flames and heavy smoke billowing from the top of the building Fire tragedy: Girl's body recovered at scene of Millville blaze The victim was found during a search of the building which held two businesses and two apartments Neighboring residents were evacuated as a safety precaution and members of at least eight fire departments responded to battle the blaze The Black Horse Pike was closed in each direction while the fire was brought under control the fire does not appear suspicious," the police statement said The blaze is under investigation by Camden County's fire marshal Jim Walsh is a senior reporter with the Courier-Post Burlington County Times and The Daily Journal Please select what you would like included for printing: Copy the text below and then paste that into your favorite email application passed away peacefully at her home on April 11 She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Glenn and Lillie Lapham; her sisters and brothers-in-law Wanita (Charles) Miller and Shirley (Ernie) Hays; her son-in-law James Treakle; and her grandson Glendora is survived by her children: Glenda Hocker and David Mercer (Robert Tanner); her grandchildren Timothy Hocker and Pamela Treakle-Cram (Tyson); her step-grandchildren Kimberly McEachern and Eugene Bonahoom; her great-grandchildren: Alexa Hocker and Tucker Wolfe; and her step great-granddaughter Glendora had a deep love for music and the arts She was actively involved in the Thomas Edison Grade School PTA and choir and was a dedicated member of the Metropolitan Avenue United Methodist Church where she participated in women's groups and choir She was also a proud and active member of the Phi Tau Omega sorority Cremation services are being handled by the Amos Family Funeral Home A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday 2025 at 10:00am at the Pinegate West Clubhouse Add to Calendar This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply Service map data © OpenStreetMap contributors Sending belated condolences to all the Galde family from our family She was a beloved friend of my mother for so many years and I have lots of happy memories of times spent with Stubba Her smile brought joy to anyone who knew her I pray she is reunited with Bob & her eternal loved ones in heaven and sharing memories & laughter with my mom Thoughts and prayers 1 to all at this difficult time.will keep u all in our prayers for comfort © 2025 Hamilton's Funeral and After Life Services The Glendora community of Gloucester Township will soon have a new ice cream shop to visit on hot summer days as Glendora Ice Cream appears to be getting close to opening The location for the new cold treat shop is on the Black Horse Pike at 5th Ave across the street from Larry’s Cold Cuts This is the FOURTH new Glendora business I’ve written about within the last month. Already opened are Chef Bo Chinese Ramen, Chang One Sushi Hibachi.. and coming soon is H&R Appliances Many remember the building for the new ice cream shop as the home to Kelly’s Bakery which closed likely at least 20 years ago I found a Help Wanted ad for Kelly’s in a 1949 Courier-Post It appears the first floor space has been closed for a long time ownership has been putting a lot of effort into fully upgrading the building inside and out.   Today the front corner features an attractive multi-colored stone façade… and the bright red and white Glendora Ice Cream signage  was installed within the last week or so Honestly I don’t have a lot of details on the business just yet beyond that sign which also features an image of a traditional hand-dipped hard ice cream cone I was going to hold off putting an article online until I got more details but with the new signage recently installed I am getting a lot of messages/emails asking about it. I’ve stopped at the location twice and unfortunately neither time were the owners onsite Last week there were cars in the rear parking lot so I tried the doors… through the glass back door I could see that the ice cream shop seems to extend all the way down to the back of the building where the interior space looks fully remodeled The open space at the rear had a number of tables and chairs which looked like they were recently delivered As mentioned the building also features a small parking area in the back I could not locate any online presence yet for the upcoming ice cream shop.  I checked Facebook Instagram and TikTok… and there also isn’t a website under that name Likely the owners are focused on the remodeling aspects so they can get the business open The only extra information I can offer is it seems the owner did chat with a few people in the community within the last week with the owner telling a few folks in the community he was hoping to be open within 30 days… which basically means the month of April I’ll likely be back for the opening to experience the new Glendora Ice Cream shop and share the experience with readers Glendora Ice Cream – Coming Soon500 N Black Horse PikeGlendora Categories News Starbucks Proposed For Washington Township Five-Points Platinum Signature Suites Coming To Mantua Former Fulton Bank Administration Building CINCINNATI — A 16-year-old boy was injured in a shooting early Sunday morning near the University of Cincinnati Sunday morning in the 2700 block of Glendora Avenue which is between UC's campus and the popular Short Vine area The suspect jumped out of a white vehicle and fired about 10 rounds Reynolds did not have any suspect information The 16-year-old was taken to UC Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries Reynolds said there is no threat to UC students or sign up for a new account to continue reading We hope that you continue to enjoy our free content THIS SERVICE IS THE EXACT REPLICA OF OUR NEWSPAPER  - PAGE BY PAGE AS IF IT WERE IN YOUR HANDS Get Started in accessing our paid content at no additional fee for the duration of your membership. made up of miles of underground cables signals and sensors that monitor train movement provide alerts and control the crossing safety equipment Crews also completed installation of the new power system - comprised of miles of overhead catenary system wires strung across 350 poles to provide power for the light-rail trains The authority notes the power comes from the eight traction power substations that were installed about a mile apart that convert AC power from local utilities to DC power - the type used to power the light-rail system Metro A Line’s APU/Citrus College Station in Azusa crews welded together the existing A Line tracks with the newly completed tracks from Glendora to Pomona.  the authority says crews pulled an unpowered light-rail vehicle onto the new project to carry out initial clearance testing Following the successful completion of the initial clearance testing the authority notes crews began active train testing in early July The crews utilized multiple light-rail vehicles that operated on their own power to test all elements of the new light rail system power communications systems and safety features this critical phase of construction is systems integration testing and ensures all of the new systems work together as designed Initial active train testing was carried out during the day at slower speeds but it was soon able to shift to higher speeds.  The authority says most of the train testing has taken place during nighttime hours to allow crews time during the day to continue construction on the project Crews also completed testing of the freight track system that was relocated throughout the corridor to make room for the new light-rail tracks the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority began active training for first responders on how to navigate the corridor trains and stations in case of emergencies As part of the project’s ongoing Fire Life Safety coordination Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority staff familiarized the area’s first responders with the access (enter) and egress (exit) points along the corridor and at the future stations as well as began preparing for emergency scenarios the authority says first responders will conduct emergency drills with test trains on the project as part of their preparation.  crews put the finishing touches on the 10 miles of decorative sound walls and retaining walls that feature citrus-inspired patterns designed by Alignment artist Christie Beniston to pay homage to the importance citrus played in the development of the corridor cities crews also completed installation of miles of fencing along the corridor and station areas to prevent unauthorized access to the tracks.  the authority notes crews neared completion on the four new stations and associated parking facilities each station is designed with a center platform for boarding with materials and colors representational of the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley Each feature unique public artworks inspired by the history and culture of the station-city itself created by the city-selected artist or artist-team.  Metro Board of Directors reaffirmed their commitment to allocate the first $798 million of the expected $1 billion of those funds to complete the LA County portion of the final 3.2-mile two-station Foothill Gold Line from Pomona to Montclair which includes stations in Claremont and Montclair.  In October, the L.A. Metro Board approved an amendment to the ongoing funding agreement between L.A Metro and the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority for that $798 million for construction of the LA County portion of the Pomona to Montclair project segment.  The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority says the critical funding milestone was reached as the procurement to hire the design-build team for the final project segment was underway throughout 2024 The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority has dedicated $80 million of state and local funding for the San Bernardino County portion of the project.  once the design-build contract is awarded (expected in spring 2025) it will take approximately five years to complete the Pomona to Montclair project Groundbreaking is anticipated later in 2025.  Glendora was born in Surry County on October 10 to the late Harvey Nichols and Ethel Chilton Nichols Glendora retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System after many years of service as a crossing guard and cafeteria staff member She was a longtime faithful member of Ardmore Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday at White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery in Mt A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm on Friday the family requests memorials be made to Ardmore Baptist Church Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs White Plains Friends Meeting Church Cemetery Enter your phone number above to have directions sent via text This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page Chef Bo Chinese & Ramen is a new takeout restaurant coming to Evesham Road in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township.  They are taking the right-end unit in the Saint Marks Square strip of stores… directly next to Latina’s Restaurant which opened a year ago The location on Evesham Road is basically halfway between the Black Horse Pike and Triton High school I just happened to drive by yesterday and noticed the little yellow construction permit in the lower corner of the window The permit may have just been put there earlier that same morning, as learning the name of the upcoming restaurant led me to their Facebook page which as of this morning had zero likes (well I am now a follower!) buildings are described as being "contemporary with Spanish Colonial design details," including tile roof Other features would include common walkways and courtyards Pending approvals construction of debut as part of the ongoing Foothill extension in 2025 Twitter / Facebook / LinkedIn / Threads / Instagram currently under development on Evesham Road taking over the end unit of a small block of stores… directly next to the popular G&M Deli  Kitchen 519 is located on the other side Located at 128 East Evesham Road, the specific unit was previously home to Sweet Life Cakes and Desserts Bakery (FB) which unfortunately closed in June of 2024 yesterday I heard from owner Andy who is excited to be opening in Camden County and wanted to get the word out to the community about his new restaurant This is early in the process for Chang One Sushi, so while they do have the start of a website online… the social media presence has not been created just yet But with a “Coming Soon” banner hanging out front and a construction permit in the front window Andy and his team are in full remodel mode… a process he expects to take about two months to complete.  Andy tells me his new restaurant will be take-out only but still offer a full freshly prepared sushi menu as well as sashimi and other Japanese delicacies… that being said the menu is still being worked out The location on Evesham Road is basically halfway between the Black Horse Pike and Triton high school…  and searching on google maps it appears that there aren’t many immediate options for sushi in the Glendora area Earlier in 2024 I featured the then new Latinas Mexican Fusion restaurant which opened about a block away…  factoring in Latinas G&M Deli and the upcoming Chang One Sushi this small section of Glendora will feature a nice selection of delicious dining options to share as early as possible the news of upcoming restaurants and businesses and then I loop back around closer to opening to get ALL of the details and a preview experience So while Andy and the team have an awesome roadmap for the opening of Chang One Sushi I’ll be back ahead of the opening to give you all of the details… including a preview look Chang One Sushi – Opening Early Spring128 East Evesham RoadGlendora NJ Website (Under Development) Lawnside’s Iconic White Horse Sign Returns Chang One Sushi is now open in Glendora (Gloucester Twp) a take-out restaurant offering delicious sushi Located on Evesham Road just a few blocks from the Black Horse Pike the all new new Chang One Sushi is located directly next to G&M Deli I stopped in at Change One yesterday to meet the family behind the new restaurant; Andy to learn about the new takeout eatery… and of course I brought home lunch The full remodeled unit is positioned at the left corner of the small strip of stores (Glendora Ave) and inside features a full new rebuild with a large and attractive customer waiting area (no dining tables) and a front counter order area where the fresh sushi dishes are made right in front of the customers A kitchen in the back has all the hot preparation equipment for making amazing hot hibachi dishes The menu at Chang One is actually larger than I expected with multiple categories of sushi and sashimi but then also the hot items (hibachi and more) that I didn’t expect until I visited yesterday.  If you’re ordering for the family and you have young ones who don’t appreciate Asian food they even offer chicken nuggets and waffle fries Chang One also offers a special lunch menu The seafood menu items feature many options in maki and sashimi styles the maki hand rolls are the more traditional “roll preparation” dishes that I think many associate as sushi Sashimi can feature similar ingredients but is not rolled The menu also offers a big selection of “Special Rolls” which have a wider variety of ingredients in the recipe such as the Golden Rule which offers salmon vegetables and more are cooked on a very hot grill The hibachi dishes include a variety of proteins to chose from such as vegetable steak and more… all packaged up beautifully to eat at home And as mentioned there’s a variety of other hot prepared dishes such as their rice bowls which even includes the popular General Tso’s Chicken For readers just starting out with sushi I would recommend the Philadelphia Roll which is based on a smoked salmon but mixes in Philadelphia cream cheese… it provides a more familiar flavor profile for those who are new to sushi I took home two different sushi hand rolls which were absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh plus I got to watch chef Andy make them right in front of me Chang One is open six days a week (closed Mondays) and their menu shows they are offering delivery from Uber Eats, Grubhub and DoorDash. I did not confirm if their delivery systems were fully available yet, considering the restaurant opened just a few days ago.
