UC police warned people to steer clear of the bear as it climbs out of a tree and runs across campus. “It went up the tree obviously because I was scared
and there's like the sirens and there was like five police cars
So there were five police cars and no one—I don't know— from the videos I saw
it didn't seem like people like knew like what to do,” said UCSB Undgergraduate Students Jasmine Arroyo and Kiersten Falat. The bear was also seen in recent days near the Pollock Theater and South Hall. “I’ve seen raccoons
but bears are the first time,” said UCSB Graduate student Hezhong Zhang. The first bear sightings were early Tuesday morning in a Goleta neighborhood near Brandon Elementary. On Wednesday it was at the Santa Ynez graduate student apartments. “Yeah
I was pretty scared about that,” said UC Santa Barbara undergraduate student Iyad Majid
Most UCSB students we spoke to say the furry visitor is generating more excitement than fear. “my first reaction was that the bear was not real because I thought
that her picture of it is like that's a person in a suit
I thought the bear was a real I think I'd like the the video or like the image like off of
Students are wondering when they’ll get to see the new mascot of the week again. “I’m just wondering if this is going to be a common a common thing
so as long as they're not hurting anyone,” said UC Santa Barbara Student Michael Hu
I personally like it's my dream to see a bear
I never thought I was gonna see one on my own campus
There was a bear is there a bear?!!!” exclaimed Arroyo as she looked over her shoulder. If you see the bear please contact the Fish And Wildlife Department or Animal Services.

For the start up period through the month of May
The Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) says the riders can use a Transloc app or call MTD to schedule a pickup
The starting area for the testing of this system is specific
The zone includes an area bounded by Patterson to the east
The housing and business park areas on either side of Los Carneros south of the freeway are also included

Tuesday morning an Isla Vista resident and UC Santa Barbara student at the Community Center
made a request and the Wave shuttle was on site in about ten minutes
The destination was Trader Joe's for some groceries
That is over Highway 101 in the Calle Real Center
A long walk and not an easy bike ride if you have more than one bag of groceries
To get there with another ride share service would have been possibly three times the cost
My only other option is to walk or ride a bike. I'm not walking so if I'm biking it is really inconvenient, it takes 30 minutes or something," said Alicia Banegas
The Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) Planning and Marketing Manager Hillary Blackerby says
"and the system will let you know where the van is when it is on its way to you. "Banegas said
"If you have the time to ride the bus for 30 minutes that's one thing
the ride was requested again and the Wave was on site in less than a minute
The microtransit vehicle can take seven passengers at once or five if a wheelchair is on board
Feedback on the new transit will be important as the program is rolled out in Goleta and before it goes into other areas
"We want more people to take it test it test
it stress it out see how it goes and we think it will be benefit to the community," said Blackerby
Grant funding has made this service possible for one year
Then it will be available in Carpinteria as the second test location
No date for the service to expand to Santa Barbara has been discussed
For more details go to: MTD
This service is open to the general public
not just seniors and people with disabilities
Children 14 and over can ride The Wave unaccompanied. It is up to parents to determine if their teen is ready to ride alone
All passengers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult
ALL CHILDREN MUST be “properly secured…in an appropriate child passenger restraint system or safety belt meeting applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards.” Per California vehicle code 27360.5

Residents of the Hope Ranch neighborhood in East Goleta received a boil water notice this weekend from the State Water Resources Control Board
Representatives say a water main break on Friday prompted the advisory
which affects all of Hope Ranch excluding Bithyina Road
People who live in the impacted areas are encouraged by officials to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution to avoid stomach or intestinal illness
Utility company representatives say residents can take several different actions to ensure that their water is safe to consume
Officials advise people to boil water for one minute before letting it cool to kill bacteria and other organisms in the water
If residents are unable to boil their water
officials say they can use eight drops of bleach per gallon of clear water
they say to filter it through a clean cloth before adding 16 drops of bleach per gallon of water
The treated water should sit for 30 minutes before being consumed
Water disinfection tablets can also be used to improve the water quality
For more information on how and when to use water, residents can visit La Cumbre Mutual Water Company's online fact sheet
The utility agencies say they will inform residents when tests show that water is safe to drink
which is anticipated to happen within the next three days
