And my answer is What we have to do as a community is ask for greater accountability and stronger training," said Kimberly no consequence (for the police department)," said Adams especially when I found out I wasn’t the only one (sober driver charged)." Goodlettsville police sent FOX 17 News a statement that reads in part "DUI and standardized field sobriety testing are not an exact science.. We have performed training both last year and this year in an effort to make us as good as we can possibly be." However, our investigation found all three were arrested by Officer Noah Werner, and all three were sober at the time of their arrest. (Adams) was just a teacher on his way to school.” Goodlettsville Police Chief Gary Woodwin told us he was sorry for the wrongful arrests and I really deeply hurt for what they went through,” Goodwin said What WSMV4 Investigates didn’t know at the time of our story is that Werner also arrested a fourth sober person for DUI: Sarah Pence Werner wrote in Pence’s arrest paperwork that she crossed over lanes twice and showed several signs of impairment during a field sobriety test “What was it like when he put the cuffs on you?” asked WSMV4 Investigates I didn’t understand what I had failed,” Pence said Pence’s bloodwork later revealed no alcohol in her bloodwork and the only drugs in her system were prescribed medication for ADHD and anxiety The district attorney’s office opted to no longer prosecute the body camera footage of her arrest is no longer available But her public defender did watch the footage and wrote in an email to prosecutors that Pence “…appeared to do very well watching BWC (body worn camera) footage WSMV4 Investigates showed Pence how her public defender also wrote “This woman has been punished enough for a crime she didn’t commit.” “I just think to myself Like so many other sober drivers charged with DUI that we’ve uncovered, her mugshot ended up on social media Pence’s mugshot appeared on the social media site “Scoop Nashville.” It was a job I had been wanting for a while,” Pence said Anytime an employer would do a background check Pence said she also got evicted following her loss of income And while WSMV4 Investigates didn’t know about Pence’s arrest until now it turns out commanders in Goodlettsville’s police department did When we aired our story in May 2024 about the three drivers we knew about Werner’s personnel record shows that in July 2024 Goodlettsville launched an internal investigation Goodwin stated that the investigation showed that Werner did have probable cause to make the three arrests but recommended that Werner undergo remedial DUI training exchanged between Pence and two Goodlettsville commanders seven months before the internal investigation was launched Pence wrote that her case had been dismissed “It has taken a lot for me not to file a complaint against Noah Werner What happened to me was wrong and has caused me so much financial and emotional distress I really would like my arrest to be further investigated.” There is no mention of Pence’s case in the internal investigation into Werner’s wrongful arrests Goodwin wrote in emails to WSMV4 Investigates that he was unaware of Pence’s case because he only directed the internal investigation to look into DUI arrests where the bloodwork of the person arrested showed no alcohol or drugs at all the drugs in her system were prescribed and were within the legal range But Goodwin said because drugs were found in her case “You’re now the fourth person to be arrested by this officer who was sober,” WSMV4 Investigates pointed out needs to find another profession,” Pence said but he wrote that Werner is no longer with the department and Portland police’s social media shows him working as a police officer for that department Portland’s human resources department confirmed his employment “Anybody ever apologize to you?” WSMV4 Investigates The emails between Pence and Goodlettsville commanders show they did offer to meet with her but she says she got COVID and became so frustrated she decided not to go WSMV4 Investigates emailed and called Portland police and asking if the department’s chief was aware of his wrongful arrests If there’s something you want me to know for this story or anything else, please email Jeremy.finley@wsmv.com Goodlettsville leaders are seeking feedback about a moratorium on high-density housing in the city The Goodlettsville branch of the Nashville Public Library is currently closed for renovations Popular drive-thru coffee shop 7 Brew is set to open in Goodlettsville later this year bridging a gap between its Clarksville and Murfreesboro locations The 510-square-foot coffee shop is under construction at 305 Long Hollow Pike in Goodlettsville Planning and Development Services Director Addam McCormick said The brand launched its first coffee stand in Rogers Arizona in 2017 debuting its seven original coffees that feature flavors like caramel Officials anticipate the shop will open in several weeks "Our team has been hard at work in preparation for this stand we are aiming for an opening between late April and early May," a representative of 7 Brew said Other 7 Brew locations in Middle Tennessee include 959 N Katie Nixon can be reached at knixon@gannett.com (WSMV) -
