The Chiefs are conducting a rookie minicamp this weekend
With 87 players participating — 60 on a tryout basis — it’s hard to stand out
As noted by ArrowheadPride.com, Rice tight end Graham Walker is taking part
He’s the half-brother of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes
The son of Pat Mahomes Sr., Walker transferred to Rice last year
Walker had 44 catches for 515 yards and six touchdowns
His best season statistically came as a freshman in 2021
when Walker caught 53 passes for 658 yards and six touchdowns

Walker, a 6'3", 227-pound tight end, spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career at Brown before playing for Rice in 2024. He compiled 1,465 yards and 15 touchdowns while playing wide receiver with the Bears before switching to a tight end role and recording 252 receiving yards last season with the Owls.
According to Clayton Trutor of Seven Days in Vermont
Walker also works out alongside Mahomes and other NFL players at APEC in Fort Worth
Mahomes and Walker grew up in different states
with Mahomes being raised in Texas by his father and mother
Graham will have to prove himself among other talented rookies while also proving that he belongs in a talented tight end room that features veteran star Travis Kelce
Walker will be surrounded by a sea of rookies hoping to leave a good impression on the Chiefs
but he at least has a slight edge over others since he comes from the same family as the quarterback who has delivered three Super Bowls to Kansas City
It is common practice for there to be tension in dressing rooms at football clubs but it is damning for West Ham United that bust-ups have been a regular theme under two managers this season
who replaced David Moyes in May 2024 upon the expiry of his contract
Alphonse Areola and Mohammed Kudus during his ill-fated eight-month spell as head coach
Lopetegui’s failure to create a harmonious atmosphere culminated in the Spaniard being the shortest-lived managerial appointment in the club’s 124-year history
But tension has also been brewing since Graham Potter succeeded Lopetegui in January
According to sources The Athletic has spoken to
who all spoke under the condition of anonymity to protect relationships
it has emerged that there have been fights between the players
and Potter faces a tough challenge of lifting morale
with West Ham winless in their seven Premier League games
Their last victory was against Leicester City on February 27
Club insiders admit the pressure is felt across the board but remain hopeful of Potter turning it around
The head coach signed a two-and-a-half-year contract — and this deal does not include a break clause
The club were initially only willing to give Potter a contract until the end of the season
The club’s hierarchy also interviewed former Milan manager Paulo Fonseca
who flew to London to meet majority shareholder David Sullivan
but his camp got the impression Potter was West Ham’s preferred option
But there has not been a new-manager bounce like Moyes and Vitor Pereira’s impact at Everton and Wolves
eight points behind Everton and 12 points behind Pereira’s side
Moyes’ influence at Everton means he was named the Premier League manager of the month for February
Pereira is in the running for April’s award
Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe and Liverpool’s Arne Slot
West Ham have sporadically shown progression under Potter
There were encouraging performances against Chelsea
but Potter has a paltry return of three wins in 14 Premier League games
The nadir of his spell was last weekend’s 3-2 capitulation against Brighton & Hove Albion
Supporters voiced their displeasure at forward Niclas Fullkrug’s demotion to the bench
who launched a diatribe against his team-mates after the draw against Southampton the week prior
In Potter’s post-match press conference at Brighton
he looked like a man under pressure when he said: “If you want me to swear
He arrived at Friday’s press conference at Rush Green in a happier mood
but candidly admitted how West Ham’s struggles have affected his family life
“We were close to winning (against Brighton)
like we were against Liverpool,” said Potter
close to another decent performance and a positive victory result
and then you’re back into everything’s bad results-wise
You’ve got to deal with that but time is a great healer
“They’ve (my family) known me long enough to know that
let’s just leave him to curse at his computer or whatever’
And this is the thing that you have to try all the time
But this notion that you can just have an experience like that and then just be alright with people
It takes time to get it out of your system.”
Summer signings will dictate Potter’s success
He predicts an exciting window but pursuing key targets will be arduous with no European football to offer
West Ham have to sell before they can buy and sources at West Ham say Kudus is expected to depart this summer to fund their recruitment
But the club will not entertain any offers for captain Jarrod Bowen
whose contract expires in the summer of 2030
The squad will be overhauled with stalwarts Aaron Cresswell
Michail Antonio and Vladimir Coufal entering the final months of their deals
Guido Rodriguez and Emerson Palmieri have uncertain futures
are unlikely to be converted into permanent deals
Potter was reluctant to say who does not feature in his plans
but had an interesting observation about his squad
“It’s hard to say at the moment,” he said when asked how much change he anticipates there being
We have to make decisions that make sure the club is in a better place going forward
We’re working all the time to try to get the level we want.”
Potter’s side needs to show improvement in the coming weeks
otherwise the lurching turbulence will continue to gather pace

Graham Bloxham, who in January announced he was running for Wellington mayor
posted in a Wainuiomata community Facebook page on Saturday detailing his alleged arrest
arrested for failing to stop after he said I was driving dangerously
thrown in the back of a Skoda and my car was impounded fir 6 months [sic]” the post
from Bloxham’s personal Facebook account read
“The copper cuffed me so hard my wrists nearly bled
and I can hardly feel my thumbs nearly 24 hrs later
Contacted by the Herald about the incident Bloxham initially said it was posted on behalf of someone else
A screenshot of Bloxham’s post was then shared on popular Wellington community Facebook page Vic Deals
Another photo posted to Vic Deals appears to show Bloxham’s distinctly branded miniature car on the back of a tow truck
The Herald has confirmed it was impounded over the weekend
Asked again about the incident after the photo of his car emerged
“If yiu want to post faked stuff over to u
But I’ll never employ you if u do [sic],” Bloxham said in a statement
Police would not identify Bloxham but confirmed the details of the incident
“A man is due to appear in the Wellington District Court on 29 May
charged with failing to stop for Police” a Police spokesperson said in a statement
Wellington District Court confirmed Bloxham was appearing in court on the 29th
While Bloxham’s post was deleted from the Wainuiomata page
a similar post remains up on his Threads account
He said it happened after a police officer thought they saw him take a photo of the closed Terrace Tunnel while driving
“I couldn’t pull over as it was on the terrace
he then arrested me for not stopping,” Bloxham said
“The nice officers gave me and my dog a ride to the station
gave me a form to get the ONENETWORK WELLINGTONLIVE car back
“An absolutely crazy experience that I’m sure this officer would rather he didn’t do
There was absolutely no reason to do what he did and I still can’t feel my thumbs,” Bloxham’s statement said
When Bloxham announced his mayoral campaign earlier this year he said he’s “always loved politics and I love this city
He said at the time he had sold the Wellington Live Facebook page
but the companies register shows a Graham Harold Bloxham as the current sole shareholder of Wellington Live Limited through holding company In Your Pocket Media Limited
There is no registered company named One Network Group listed on the companies register

But there are a couple of factors that belie this dismissive attitude toward the Lohner pick
the Broncos took a similar "flyer" on Utah wide out Devaughn Vele in Round 7 last year
and few expected the 26-year-old rookie to even make the roster
But Vele was good enough in OTAs and camp to make veteran Tim Patrick expendable
and would go on to start seven games as a rookie
catching 41 passes for 475 yards and three touchdowns
Lohner has a unique resume and traits that make him singular and intriguing
putting him in the top 20 percentile of the position group
Add to that Lohner's five-year career as a college basketball player at BYU
and visions of Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham begin dancing in one's head
that's a lot to put on a rookie seventh-rounder's plate when it comes to the expectation meter
especially a guy like Lohner who turned to football late and only caught four college passes
If that's not an encouraging harbinger
Even Payton can't help but make the Graham and Gates comparisons with Lohner
perhaps revealing that his expectations for the former Ute are much higher than a typical seventh-rounder
As two legendary tight ends who played college basketball
Payton talked about Gates and Graham relative to Lohner following Day 3 of the NFL draft
Both of them were very good basketball players," Payton said of Lohner and Graham
Gates went undrafted out of Kent State in 2003 and did not get an invitation to the NFL Combine
He signed with the then-San Diego Chargers as a college free agent
he'll be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Gates and Graham's basketball background served them well in football
as it did for former Broncos Pro Bowl tight end Julius Thomas
All three were uber-athletic and knew how to use their bodies to complete passes
boxing out defenders just like they were going for the rebound
even knowing that it might take a lot of work to realize it
and you’re rooting for some guys and you see upsides in 6’7”
You can see the basketball skill set—that’s easy—at a high level," Payton said of Lohner
"Then you’re looking at a small amount of playing time and yet enough to where you’re watching them."

USA; Utah Utes forward Caleb Lohner (11) holds the ball away from Florida A&M Rattlers guard Trey Lewis (3) during the second half at Jon M
/ Rob Gray-Imagn ImagesLohner's college tape was so limited that he might not have garnered much NFL interest
were it not for his performance at the Big 12 Pro Day
"I think the other thing that helped was watching him at the Big 12 Pro Day
There were just a few plays that you see movement skills and it’s a lot to work with," Payton said
"If it turns out like the last one did
undrafted and so it’s kind of one of those things where the body types for the tight end
it’s not like they’re making less of them."
Not every 6-foot-7 basketballer has ambitions of playing football
despite his accomplishments as a basketball player
and I genuinely believe that wherever I am—and now being part of the Broncos organization—I’m going to do everything I can to help win," Lohner said after the draft
"I know I don’t have a ton of football under my belt
but that’s exactly why I’m playing the game because I’ve developed a passion and love
I think it’s something you dream about in sports."
Lohner believes that his jumping ability (the kid's got some hops) and high-pointing the ball are two basketball traits that translate to playing tight end
But he's got a unique blend of tools that
make for an intriguing amalgamation the Broncos couldn't resist in the draft's final round
"When you get a chance to see him play football
he goes through a season of putting pads on
and his eye/hand coordination—there’s a lot of developmental upside and we’re excited about that," Payton said
The Broncos signed veteran Evan Engram to be their No. 1 tight end this year, and he'll be backed by Adam Trautman and at least Nate Adkins. But Lohner will immediately push the depth chart, and could render young vets like Lucas Krull expendable
let's not forget to mention Lohner's fellow Ute Thomas Yassmin
Two Utes pushing the tight end depth chart from the bottom will be interesting to watch unfold in Broncos camp
that Payton saw visions of Graham when he pulled the trigger on Lohner in the draft
And that means something relative to Lohner's outlook

Vermont native Graham Walker's bid to make an NFL roster has brought him to familiar territory. Walker is currently participating at the rookie minicamp tryout for the Kansas City Chiefs, home to his famous half-brother, Patrick Mahomes
the superstar quarterback and three-time Super Bowl MVP
A former Champlain Valley Union High School standout, Walker is one of 60 players hoping to land a contract with the Chiefs during their minicamp
Walker and Patrick Mahomes share a father, Pat Mahomes, Sr., who played in the MLB from 1992-2003. Walker grew up in Shelburne and Hinesburg and was raised by his mother Jessamyn Walker, and stepfather, Gerry Howatt, according to a recent Seven Days feature story on Graham Walker
More: Middlebury's Thomas Perry invited to an NFL rookie minicamp tryout. Find out which team.
Walker was an all-state football and basketball player at CVU before opting to go to Avon Old Farms
Walker spent four seasons (2020-2023) at Brown University
where he earned All-Ivy honors and finished with 1,496 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns in 27 games
227-pound Walker moved from receiver to tight end and caught 24 balls for 252 yards
"I like to think that I am a tight end who has the skills of a wide receiver," Walker told Seven Days
Walker is the second player with Vermont ties this year to earn an invitation to an NFL rookie minicamp tryout
Middlebury College lineman Thomas Perry is attending Ravens' camp

A minerals deal was signed without commitments to Kyiv on investments
As diplomatic frustrations mount, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) wants to come down hard on Russia — with a sanctions bill that now has bipartisan support in the Senate
The bill punishes Russia if it “refuses to negotiate a peace agreement with Ukraine, violates any such agreement, or initiates another military invasion of Ukraine.” It also includes a 500% tariff on imported goods from Russian oil buyers
“Most members of the Senate believe that Putin has been resistant to finding a negotiated solution to the war, and has been brazen and barbaric in his actions against Ukraine,” Graham explained
“By co-sponsoring this bill I think a senator is making a pretty clear statement that they see Russia as the greatest offender here.”
When asked by the WSJ when the bill would be brought up for a vote, Graham said “we’re talking weeks.”
In an attempt to force hands, Rubio asked Tuesday for “concrete proposals” from both Russia and Ukraine as to how to resolve the conflict — warning that the U.S
would “step back as a mediator in this process” if progress was not made in due time
the diplomatic rubber has seemingly hit the road amid the Trump administration’s ultimatums
Experts broke down the minerals deal developments for RS
“The ratified minerals deal does not recognize prior U.S
assistance as counting toward the joint investment fund
It is a framework to ensure Ukrainian compensation for any future U.S
a research fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft’s Eurasia Program
along with the potential presence of American companies on the ground in Ukraine
may become one of several smaller assurances with the other one being Ukraine’s path to EU membership — that together can replace the kinds of hard security guarantees that Kyiv wants but is highly unlikely to get from the White House,” Episkopos said
this framework for long-term cooperation reassures Ukraine that it will not be financially abandoned whenever the war ends and thus provides Kyiv with additional incentives to engage constructively with the US-brokered peace initiative.”
The joint investment fund, however, doesn’t force any commitments on the U.S. in terms of financial investments or security assistance
“It is vital to note that this agreement does not commit the U.S. government to invest in Ukraine; and to judge by the present profitability of minerals extraction in the world, it is not certain that private investors will see major benefits from doing so,” Anatol Lieven, Director of the Eurasia Program at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, wrote in RS yesterday
“This [is] not just a financial arrangement
This is a bonding between two countries that will make a difference for a nation
where they have a friend,” State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said of the deal
“And the rest of the world will notice that when you have a friend like the United States
And when we are in business with you and in your nation
it creates a stronger national security…for everyone involved.”
Following the minerals deal signing, the Trump administration has sent Ukraine $50 million in military aid, according to the Times — the first instance of military assistance sent by the Trump administration to Kyiv
if we can’t even raise 64,000 that doesn’t look weak — it is weak.”
During the State Department press briefing on May 1st
Spokesperson Tammy Bruce explained the logic behind Rubio’s request Tuesday for diplomatic proposals from both Ukraine and Russia
would “step back as a mediator” if diplomatic processes did not keep a reasonable pace
“The methodology of how we contribute to [Russia-Ukraine diplomacy] will change in that we will not be the mediators…and the nature of how this would change is we would not we certainly were still committed to it
and we'll help and do what we can,” Bruce explained
“But we are not going to fly around the world at the drop of a hat to mediate meetings
That it is now between the two parties [Ukraine and Russia]
and…now is the time that they need to present and develop concrete ideas about how this conflict is going to end
Today, there are only three global naval powers: the United States, China, and Russia
able occasionally to deploy further afield
If Donald Trump wants European states to look after their own collective security
Britain might be better off keeping its handful of ships in the Atlantic
although still able to inflict severe damage on Ukraine
few people talk about the real Russian naval capacity to challenge Western dominance
how this will increasingly come up against U.S
That is an incredible message to our adversaries
It is an incredible show of unity to our allies and our commitment to NATO.”
almost half of Britain’s fighting ships embarked from Portsmouth and Devonport to much fanfare
“the world’s most advanced air defense destroyer,” has been in the dry dock since 2017
I’ve just finished reading “The Royal and Russian Navies, Cooperation, Competition and Confrontation,”written by Britain’s former Naval Attache to Moscow
retired Principal Lecturer at the Defence Centre for Languages & Culture at the UK’s Defence Academy
The authors argue that while we have focused most of our attention on Russia’s army in Ukraine
And thinking about Russia as a relic of its Cold War self is a huge mistake
laboring under sanctions and the tight fiscal constraints of the war in Ukraine
Russia’s naval yards have built new vessels non-stop for the past decade
Russia has taken delivery of 27 submarines
Many more are under construction and will arrive by the end of this decade
The Royal Navy, on the other hand, has continued to shrink in the teeth of defense cuts, and each new efficiency drive makes it smaller. The two Albion-class landing vessels
and negotiations about their sale to Brazil are at an advanced stage
The increase in defense spending to 2.5% of GDP will mostly be swallowed by the MoD’s bloated procurement programs that are typically delayed and always over budget
It will not produce a rapid conveyor belt of ship-building that has seen Russia overtake Britain at a rapid pace since the Ukraine crisis started
The book also underlines the importance of dialogue as a key component of deterrence and reminds the reader of the significant naval cooperation that took place between the two navies after the Cold War
When HMS Battleaxe sailed into Baltiysk in 1992
the first Royal Navy ship visit to modern-day Russia
it discovered the remnants of the Soviet Navy
The Russian Navy had become the main beneficiary of Russia’s state armament program
and a Russian admiral was saying the UK’s decision to give up the Nimrod Maritime Patrol Aircraft in 2010 made his “life easier.”
practically all direct engagement between the Royal and Russian navies was cut at the instigation of the UK government
the UK and Russia have no serving military attachés in their respective embassies in London and Moscow for the first time since 1941
Our modern generation of seafarers are now only able to view Russians through binoculars
Britain has literally watched a modernizing Russian navy sail off into a distant horizon as we’ve criticized Russia from an ivory conning tower
From his ridiculous photo op on the deck of HMS The Prince of Wales, it’s not clear that Keir Starmer has understood that the world now contains just three global naval powers: the United States of America
Russian naval ambitions have now grown in the High North (Arctic) and in the Pacific
While Britain’s modest Carrier Strike Group steams east, Russia has already been active in joint naval exercises with China and Iran
as well as ship visits to Myanmar and other locations
Britain has practically no scope to control Russia’s increasingly assertive naval posture in Asia
This decade-long lack of engagement — not just by Britain but by America pre-Trump — has left us sailing blind on how Russian doctrine and tactics have shifted in the forge of war in Ukraine
It's clear to me that in this new world order of military burden sharing between America and Europe
Britain would be better placed keeping its handful of ships in the Atlantic
while America increasingly comes into contact with the Russian Navy in the Pacific
In President Donald Trump’s first 100 days
his administration has arrested and detained
visa holders and other non-citizens in the U.S
for speaking out against Israel’s military actions in Gaza
That’s not how the administration frames it
but that is the connective tissue in each of the cases
“We’re either a free society governed by the Constitution
Paul was specifically addressing the Antisemitism Awareness Act which would codify a Trump-era executive order declaring that antisemitism is a prohibited form of discrimination in schools and universities
and would use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism in assessing cases of antisemitic discrimination through the Department of Education
Critics say that it would allow the government to conflate criticism of Zionism and the Israeli government with antisemitism and serve as a dangerous tool to shut down free speech
Paul wondered aloud if campus police would be used in enforcing new speech rules
As The Jewish Chronicle reported after the vote was postponed
Paul was part of “a testy hearing on Wednesday that covered objections to the bill ranging from whether a Christian would be barred from saying that Jews killed Jesus
to the acceptability of making contemporary political allusions to Nazi Germany and even the comedy of Jerry Seinfeld and Joan Rivers.”
Paul cited the landmark 1969 Brandenburg v. Ohio case
in which Ku Klux Klan member Clarence Brandenburg was convicted under two Ohio laws of allegedly inciting violence against Jews and African-Americans with his speech
Brandenburg claimed that his punishment violated the First Amendment
“Brandenburg was a Nazi and an antisemite and he said horrible things,” Paul said
the Supreme Court ruled that you can say terrible things.”
The senator compared the American concept of free speech with Europe’s recent crackdowns on speech
“That’s unique about our country,” Paul said. “In Europe
if you call a boy who thinks he’s a girl a boy
If you say something about the Holocaust in Europe
Do we want to replicate Europe’s speech laws in the U.S.
“We’re codifying what Europe did to speech
The Congressional debate is taking place as non-citizen students have been snatched away ostensibly for what they said or wrote about Israel
the former co-president of Columbia University’s Palestinian Student Union
of using “threatening rhetoric and intimidation” against Jewish students during a protest on campus in 2024
A 34-year-old permanent resident of the U.S
who was born and raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank before moving to the U.S
Mahdawi was detained by ICE agents while at his naturalization hearing in Vermont on April 14
He was never formally charged with a crime
We don't know if the other non-citizen students detained by immigration authorities in the last month have actually been involved in threats or intimidation
because the administration has been deliberately vague about its reasons for detaining them
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the administration has the right to deport non-citizens when their "presence and activities in the United States would have serious adverse foreign policy consequences and would compromise a compelling U.S
He is invoking a little-used clause in the Immigration and Nationality Act
which stipulates that the Secretary of State can determine what kind of activity rises to the level of having “potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences” for the country
Others are still in detention awaiting hearings
Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil claims he was arrested on March 8 for a speech he gave during campus protests, though he too was never charged with anything. A judge has said the administration’s attempt to deport him will be decided in court
He has been accused by Department of Homeland Security officials of spreading Hamas propaganda
something his family and supporters vehemently deny
the detainees’ support for the Palestinians’ plight and criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza appear to be the primary reasons behind their arrests
But if America did ignore the First Amendment and allowed rigid UK-style speech laws instead
Do the purveyors of the new antisemitism speech legislation on Capitol Hill know that this could boomerang on them when their ideological opponents someday get back into power
As journalist Glenn Greenwald observed about the antisemitism legislation
“this is not a hate speech code applying to foreign nationals
It's a hate speech code that applies to American citizens
where people can be punished for the expression of ideas on college campuses cheered for by the right wing faction that has long claimed there's nothing worse than hate speech codes and other forms of suppression of ideas on college campuses.”
Carving out one country in the world and making it forbidden to criticize its government is the complete antithesis of the Constitution’s protections and a betrayal of the American tradition
The First Amendment allows anyone on American soil to critique the U.S
but now condemning a foreign government could land you in jail or deported to another country
One would think that putting America first might include putting its First Amendment first
The U.S.-Ukraine minerals agreement is not a diplomatic breakthrough and will not end the war
but it is a significant success for Ukraine
both in the short term and — if it is ever in fact implemented — in the longer term
It reportedly does not get Ukraine the security “guarantees” that Kyiv has been asking for. It does not commit the U.S. to fight for Ukraine, or to back up a European “reassurance force” for Ukraine. And NATO membership remains off the table. Given its basic positions, there is no chance of the Trump administration shifting on these points
But since the Ukraine peace process appeared to run out of steam
and Trump threatened to “walk away” from the talks
Kyiv and Moscow have been engaged in an elaborate diplomatic dance of semi-proposals and hints to try to ensure that if Trump does walk away
he will blame the other side for the talks’ failure
This agreement makes it far more likely that he will blame Russia, and therefore that he will continue military and intelligence aid to Ukraine. He may also, as threatened, try to impose additional sanctions on Russia — though given the resistance of most of the world to these sanctions, and tensions over tariffs between the U.S. and Europe
it is not at all clear how effective new sanctions would be
military and intelligence aid will not win the war for Ukraine
nor allow it to drive the Russians from occupied territory
It will however help the Ukrainian army to slow down Russia’s advance on the ground and impose heavy casualties on the Russian army
This should not be taken by the Ukrainians or their European supporters as an excuse to maintain impossible conditions for peace that will make a settlement impossible; because the military and economic odds are still strongly against Ukraine
and a collapse of Ukraine’s exhausted troops is a real possibility
it will make it more likely that Russia will abandon or heavily qualify its impossible demands
for example for Ukrainian disarmament and withdrawal from additional territory
it is clearly far more favorable for Ukraine than Trump’s original — and grotesque — proposal that Ukraine should essentially hand its entire reserves of minerals to the U.S
the profits of mineral extraction will be equally shared
As Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: “This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free
… President Trump envisioned this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to show both sides’ commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine
no state or person who financed or supplied the Russian war machine will be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
money go to develop mineral extraction in the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine
keep a lot of bad actors out of the country or certainly out of the area where we’re doing the digging."
absolute Western security guarantees for Ukraine after a peace settlement have never really been on offer
because the Biden administration and almost every other NATO government stated repeatedly that they would not fight to defend Ukraine
will however ensure a strong continued U.S
It greatly reduces the risk that in the event of future Russian aggression
would simply look away and not respond as it has in this war
with military supplies and extreme sanctions
But the deal won’t be implemented until the war comes to an end. Thereafter, it will depend on the willingness of U.S
private companies to invest in this sector — and that will depend on their assessment of both the risks and the profits involved
For it is vital to note that this agreement does not commit the U.S
government to invest in Ukraine; and to judge by the present profitability of minerals extraction in the world
it is not certain that private investors will see major benefits from doing so
China has developed its rare-earth sector on such a scale mainly through huge state-directed investment; and no-one has so far done a thorough analysis of the actual profitability and scale of most of these Ukrainian resources. So, only a tactical success for Ukraine and one over which there hang many questions; but nonetheless one that hopefully will lead Moscow to respond with some serious and acceptable peace proposals of its own.

third-degree assault on a special victim and resisting arrest
came into the Coast Guard family as a commander appointed by President John F
Coast Guard Academy as athletic director and head football coach in 1958 was not received well by many of the tradition bound officers of the service
The brass that hired him had the foresight to believe thata man of Otto’s quality and stature could have a profound effect on the current and future cadets who would one day run the service
What the serious, ramrod straight officers didn’t expect was Otto’s mantra of “You can have fun and still be a professional.”By the time Otto retired in 1984
and later the women of the Academy he greeted with open arms after the implantation of Title IX
had transplanted the previous staid upper echelon to become the admirals of today
They now readily admit his playfully humble yet confident nature literally changed the entire culture of the service
In the late 1940s before he became the Tom Brady of his era for the Cleveland Browns
Otto would enjoy playing anonymous golf in his free time with a guy named George Steinbrenner
who had just taken over his father’s shipping business on the shores of Lake Erie
and a young Coast Guard non-com named Arnold Palmer who played a mean game of golf
George had become working friends with then Capt
the OIC of the Cleveland Coast Guard Station
That friendship would play huge dividends in the years to come
he was burned out on the pressures of the NFL and promised my mother
he would not accept any of the coaching offers coming his way
He held out a year until he got a call from Wilfred Smith
of the Chicago Tribune asking ifhe’d consider being an assistant coach on Curly Lambeau’s College All-Star staff
the squad that took on the NFL champion at the beginning of each season
Otto was hooked and would become the summer All-Star head coach for the next ten years
George Steinbrenner advised Otto that Frank Leamy was nowanadmiral andcommandant of the Coast Guard Academy in New London
Connecticut who was looking to replace their retiring football coach
Frank had been called by George to recommend Otto
right.” He doubted Otto had even heard of the CGA
“Yeah right,” but with Bev’s blessing decided to hop a train to New London for a look see
Captain Graham oversaw the modernization of the Academy sports complexes
the building of a modern field house and growth of the Academy’s programs
The USCGA was the only service Academy that did not accept congressional appointments
which is why the teams were rarely competitive
smart and good athletes began applying to the Academy for the chance to play for Otto
went undefeated and played in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando
When Title IX later became the law of the land
His first decision was to give the varsity boys’ locker room to the women
having cadets of both sexes on campus became common place
the women’s sports teams at the Academy thrive
I can think of no better example than to mention the 2025 Women’s Bears basketball squad led by team Captain Glory Blethen of Boothbay
who will graduate from the Academy in the weeks ahead and was previously highlighted in this celebration off the Coast Guard
Otto was honored to be the Windjammer Days Grand Marshal in the late 1970s when I was on the Boothbay Harbor Police Dept
It was a proud moment for me to be blasting the siren in the squad car behind his convertible as he waved to the crowd and later enjoyed a visit to the Academy’s Barque-class Eagle
the 295-foot-tall ship majestically anchored in the outer harbor

E2 Embroidery and Screen Print has sold 23,000 Graham Hoffman memorial t-shirts
The firefighter owned-and-operated business has its hands full to fulfill the orders coming in from all 50 states and dozens of countries
"My wife woke me up this morning and asked where Isle of Man is," said Eddings
From local buyers to Ireland — firefighter supporters across the globe won't forget Graham Hoffman's sacrifice during a routine medical call Sunday night
"These shirts will be around for a long time
or that are firemen and remember what happened
Missouri Fire Department firefighter Jamison Boggio was visiting the store buying shorts
"We're buying at least 20 of these shirts," he said
Boggio told KSHB 41 he didn't know Graham too well
Although I only worked with Graham once or twice
The Station 42 T-Shirt fundraiser even drew attention from Ryan Olson
an engineer and paramedic with Great Falls Fire Rescue in Montana
"The firefighting community were a huge community
but we’re extremely close knit," Olson said
"I can’t imagine what my family would go through in this situation
I know right now it’s so fresh and numb for this family that they can’t even process what’s going on right now."
Olson is one of the many firefighters E2 tells KSHB 41 has purchased Station 42 shirts
It's what Olson explain is the brother and sisterhood bond that's universal across the job
"T-Shirts are our main form of uniform usually," Olson said
A lot of stations and departments have a lot of pride
Showing some pride for Station 42 and being able to wear a Kansas City Fire shirt while also supporting a family and giving them just the littlest amount of financial help..
the Eddings' told KSHB 41 the Kansas City Royals bought 75 shirts for the clubhouse
The Royals honored fallen KCFD firefighters John Mesh and Larry Leggio during the 2015 World Series
"He (Hoffman) deserves to have his memory continued on," Boggio said
"I know it’ll continue with KCFD and everybody ordering shirts across the country
While the Eddings' have a heavy workload in the days to come
E2 added Hoffman's name under the Station 42 seal on the chest
along with his final alarm date for all shirts
The shirts are not printed — printing will begin on May 19 and then will be shipped or ready for store pick up

Brandon Graham had a lot to think about in 2024 and 2025
He was entering what we thought would be his final Eagles season
He reinjured himself while capturing his second Lombardi Trophy
seemed to think about coming back for a 16th NFL season
going out on top as one of the greatest Philadelphia Eagles of all time
Along the way, he agreed to co-author a children’s book with former CBS 3 reporter and anchor Lesley Van Arsdall, who had written The Mouse Who Played Football with Brian Westbrook two years earlier
and it’s the release of BG’s ABCs: Tackling Football and Life
a book that goes letter-by-letter through the alphabet as a combination educator and motivational tool to get children thinking about words like “attitude” and “confidence” and what can happen if you apply their meanings to whatever you decide to pursue in life
You can pre-order here ahead of the May 9th release: BG’s ABCs: Tackling Football and Life
who explained the process for writing the book and how it all came together
Crossing Broad: The new book is called BG’s ABCs
Lesley Van Arsdall: Basically it’s all Brandon
we went over pretty much every word that begins with A: awesome
and the word ‘attitude’ came up and he goes
‘that’s what I want.‘ Then (the process) would be
what does attitude mean to you?‘ And that’s kind of how we went through every letter
getting his take on what that meant to him growing up
He really wanted to do this because he has two young kids and reads to them all the time
He wanted something to inspire young kids and that’s what this does such a great job of
We just had to whittle it down to put it into a one or two-sentence structure that would appeal to kids
I started covering the Eagles the year he was drafted
and I remember one of the older writers saying
that’s not going to last.‘ But with him
you see how they kind of become jaded over the years
but Brandon just held that positivity and he would never shy away from the media when a lot of other players did
CB: When I saw his name pop up on this project
and we actually gave him a copy of the Brian Westbrook book that I had written
That’s kind of how the ball started rolling
and it’s almost been one year to the day that we started this
They fast tracked it because we kind of knew going in it was going to be his last season
We wanted it to (come out after the season)
Then he got hurt and he was kind of wrestling with the thought of coming back for another season
I just think with him coming back and then winning the Super Bowl
I will say he’s my favorite athlete I’ve ever covered
sometimes people don’t like us (the media) very much (laughing)
Trying to interview people about certain things
But he was always there 100% and I don’t know if there’s another athlete you can say that about
CB: Did you plan to write a second book after working with Brian Westbrook
What was the genesis of book two after book one
what about Brandon?‘ So we revisited with him and he goes ‘yes I want to do this.’ Then it just became a point of when was he able to do it
We literally set up in his kitchen and started writing and recording and tried to hammer this out over however many days
CB: So it’s accurate to say the entirety of the book was written in Brandon’s kitchen
Of course we had several follow up phone calls and rewrites
you did the book with Brian Westbrook in 2022
Did you have thoughts of doing a children’s book at some point during your TV career
How and why did that come about in the first place
and it was funny because I actually had the idea before we even approached Brian
I was reading a lot for my kids and I’m like
there needs to be more inspirational books for kids,’ something positive
My kids were obsessed with sports from a very young age
so (they were familiar with the concept of) athletes as heroes
but some (athletes) are not the greatest guys
I knew Brian and just remember writing this story about a little guy
because my kids were little and I don’t know if they’re going to be able to do anything (in athletics)
‘what about a mouse who played football and blah blah.’ Then I was talking to my husband about it
and he was always the underdog and always overcoming this and that
He went through so much more than people even know
He struggled every step of the way and even when he was on the Eagles he had to prove himself again and again
And it was really about catching people at the right time
It was the right time in this life and he really wanted to do something positive that kids would read over and over again
and I’m hoping this will have the same lasting effect with Brandon too
He’s a great talent and the pictures make the book
We talked to a few illustrators about their ideas for the book and had them send some pictures
Some of the pictures were a little creepy (laughing)
that’s not exactly what we’re going for here.’ And Tom just hit it out of the park
We’d give our input and Brandon would ask if we could change a thing here or there
but for the most part we loved everything he did
CB: You mentioned that when you would read to your kids you were looking for more stuff with a motivational message
Was that the extent of the goal with these two books
or was there something else from your own experience that influenced the approach
and just give them hope that if you work hard
maybe you’re told you can’t do something
I just wanted them to have the inspiration and hope that yes
I think both of these books are exactly that
You close the book and have a lesson to carry
I’ll read my daughters something like Alice in Wonderland
and we’re done and it’s like… ‘alright
that was… quirky and weird!‘ But what’s the larger takeaway
both give evergreen motivational stories here
and I think it was really interesting getting to know (Graham) more
It was refreshing to hear that a huge athlete in Philadelphia
That’s a great thing to share with kids
he’s just like you and he had big dreams too
not everyone is going to become a pro athlete
but everything in it is positive and a good lesson and something you want your kids to believe in
CB: Life after television – how’s it treating you and what do you make of your time at CBS 3 now
LVA: I’m so happy right now because my kids were really young when I was working at channel 3
Your schedule is never your own because of sports or news or what’s driving the day
They have real issues and they’re dealing with a lot of stuff and I’m happy with how everything happened at the right time for me
Glad to be enjoying this new chapter in my life and I’ve always kind of wanted to do kids books
Never had the chance and now I have this awesome opportunity
which I have to say presented itself because I worked with athletes at CBS
and that’s why I’m able to do this now
It all worked out in the best possible way for me
and LVA will be promoting the book at the following signing sessions over the next several weeks:

The Oklahoma Sooners and Brent Venables are after their future at quarterback as if they're scheduling a nonconference game
announced via X that he already got an offer from the Sooners in the earliest of stages in recruitment for the 2028 class
Although it seems wild the Sooners would already extend an offer to a player after only one season of playing in high school
OU is likely getting a head start on a quarterback who will draw interest from just about every college football program in the country
OU also isn't the only program already after Simpson either
Simpson is worthy of the phenom tag after his freshman campaign
In his first action at the high school level
Simpson completed 75.8% of his passes for a whopping 4,135 yards and 57 touchdowns with only one interception
He went all the way until the state semifinals before throwing his first career interception
He led Westview High School to a Tennessee state title and was named MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year
Playing Division I football is also already in Simpson's DNA
breaking his brother's school record for most passing touchdowns in a game
Ty had previously thrown five TDs in a game
Still in the midst of building the 2026 class
the Sooners don't have any commitments from the 2028 class yet
Any decision from Simpson is likely far down the road as his offers list will continue to inflate
he wouldn't even be in Norman until 2028
And who knows if Venables will still even be OU's head coach by then

(KCTV) - A Kansas City firefighter paramedic will be remembered with a public tribute Friday
The department announced funeral plans for Grahan Hoffman
The 29-year-old died Sunday after investigators said he was stabbed by a woman while transporting her to a hospital
Hoffman’s funeral will be held at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty
The Kansas City Fire Department described the fallen paramedic as a “dedicated professional” and someone beloved by his peers
and a leader on and off the job by his fellow firefighters and academy classmates
It is with great sorrow and sadness we announce the passing of KCFD Firefighter Paramedic Graham Hoffman
Firefighter Hoffman died from injuries sustained when he was stabbed in the chest by a patient he was transporting to the hospital in the early hours of April 27th
Graham was a dedicated professional who loved serving his city
Fellow firefighters are wearing a black stripe over their badges in honor of Hoffman
People across the metro are also encouraged to show their support for KCFD
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is asking for people to “Light the Night” in red through May 4
The red lights are in honor of fallen firefighters and their families
The annual tribute takes place leading up to National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend
Many of the policies enacted by the Trump administration with lightning speed in these first 100 days were initially laid out two years ago in the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025
David Graham’s new book “The Project” details its origins and sweeping goals to reshape American culture

Just over 100 days into the new administration
we're taking a broad look at what's been accomplished already and what else might be coming
White House correspondent Laura Barrón-López is back now with more on the impact of Project 2025
Many of the policies enacted by the Trump administration with lightning speed in these first 100 days were initially laid out two years ago in a document called Project 2025 by the conservative Heritage Foundation
"Atlantic" staff writer David Graham's new book
"The Project," details the origins of Project 2025 and its sweeping goals to reshape American culture by expanding the president's control over policies on gender and immigration to the economy and the environment
"The Project: How Project 2025 Is Reshaping America": Thank you for having me
Many people by now have likely heard of Project 2025
Can you tell us a bit about where it came from
The Heritage Foundation's president charged — Paul Dans
was putting together a group of thinkers from across the Trump-friendly right to produce basically a platform for Trump or an agenda for Trump or the next Republican president
vetting of staffers who could serve in that administration and be trained ahead of time
and then a kind of playbook for the first 100 days so that the president could hit the ground running with a really effective rollout of policies
President Trump repeatedly said that he didn't know anything about Project 2025
But how many of Project 2025's proposals have already been put into effect by the president
It's hard to quantify exactly because it's such a range of ideas
But there have been dozens of executive orders that directly echo what's in Project 2025
Many people involved in the project have entered the administration
the whole approach of reducing the federal bureaucracy
if not the central objective of Project 2025
And you write that: "Project 2025 envisions in America where abortion is strictly illegal
all in accordance with fundamentalist Christian principles."
The priority really is on men as breadwinners
They see women raising children as being the highest calling for them
And they see the Christian heritage of the United States as being essential and something that needs to be brought to the fore
So those are the people who will benefit and they want to see a family based around what they say are biblically based principles
So when you see the Trump administration issuing an executive order that tries to define sex as male and female
or when they issue an executive order banning trans women from sports
And they see these things as part of a total package
It's maybe the part that's most politically salient
is now the head of the Office of Management and Budget for President Trump
Can you explain the beliefs that are guiding people like Russ Vought
as well as others that are now inside the administration
There's a really interesting interview that Vought did with Charlie Kirk a couple years ago
the left describes me and people like me as a Christian nationalist
even as they sometimes come from a more traditional right-wing background
And they see this Christian society and the Christian founding of the country as they see it as important and slipping away from them in front of their eyes
you said that the conservative authors of Project 2025 are playing the long game
I think the Trump administration is a little bit of a vessel
but they want to change how structure — the structure of society and they want to change the structure of the government
They're looking back to roll back precedents from the Great Society in the 60s
and even to the foundation of the civil service in the 1880s
Another pattern across Project 2025 that you write about and that we have seen play out a bit in the first few months of the president's time in office is an effort to expand his power
so much so that it is essentially limitless
from immigration or also taking some of Congress' power of the purse
how are you seeing this already play out and what's to come
They see the executive branch as being rightly controlled entirely by the president
And so that means they think he should be able to fire anybody who works in the executive branch
Civil servants should be political appointees
They also think he should be able to seize control of independent agencies
bodies like this that are established by Congress to be appointed by the president
And they also want to go through the traditional safeguards around things like the Justice Department
We see the firings of civil servants and conversions under the so-called Schedule F
We see the Justice Department being used as a tool of retribution and the White House firing specific line prosecutors
And then we see the firings of heads of independent agencies as well
So I think the plan is proceeding just as laid out
And has he accelerated or disrupted any of Project 2025's plans
but I think he's become a really useful tool for them
So the sorts of attacks on the civil service that he's doing
And there's been a bunch of reporting showing how Vought is working with Musk on this
but I think they see him as a good accelerant for getting their things done
What do you see the administration tackling in the months to come from Project 2025
They have been slowed down a little bit on executive branch changes
but we're going to see continued attempts to close departments like the Department of Education
And we're also going to see the slow attack on these independent agencies
There's also so many policy ideas in here that have to be done through the rulemaking process
And that takes time and it takes getting their appointees in
there's a whole line of agendas for every department that they're going to start working through
David Graham of "The Atlantic," thank you for your time

If you hand Aaron Hermiller a 1,000-piece jigsaw
he’ll dive right in — because for this self-described “puzzle nerd,” he enjoys seeing every piece click into place
Hermiller will bring his talents for solving complex challenges to a brand-new puzzle: guiding the students and staff of Graham Mesa Elementary to even higher levels of success
Hermiller will take the reins from the current Principal
Currently a fourth-grade teacher and instructional coach at Wamsley Elementary
Hermiller has spent 11 years in Garfield Re-2 in various roles
including classroom teacher and academic coach
He holds a Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University
a Master of Science in Education from the University of Findlay
and his Principal Certification is from Western Colorado University
Hermiller has always seen building leadership in his future
“A leader is there to help people succeed
I think that my life’s work is to help other people get to where they want to be
whether it’s kids or adults,” he explained
Growing from an elementary teacher to an academic coach and building leader
Hermiller said that becoming a Principal was the next logical step
“I think being a principal is where you can make the most impact with kids,” he explained. “It’s not the direct impact that teachers make
teachers–that’s where you make the most impact with the most amount of kids
but a principal gets to impact 430.”
Although he is committed to his students at Wamsley Elementary
he is eager to embark on the next adventure and build upon the excellent existing structure at Graham Mesa
“GME already has a strong foundation of family engagement and positive culture
Families are in the school to support their students
The staff is amazing and wants to see every child succeed,” he explained
and he would like to expand on that success
“The vision for me is that (Graham Mesa) becomes a school that other schools look at and say
look at the things that they’re doing
Look at how the teachers have moved into leadership positions on their own
so if we see something that other schools are doing that’s really great
how can we make that in the Graham Mesa way?”
Hermiller says hard work is part of his DNA and he is ready for the next challenge in his educational career
You will see me at the baseball and soccer games supporting our students
I like seeing the kids outside of school so they know that they are supported.”
three Principal finalists went through an extensive interview process that included an interview with outgoing Superintendent Heather Grumley
and interviews with 2 teams consisting of staff
The day was capped with a meet-and-greet reception
and community members asked questions of and provided feedback about the candidates
“We had three exceptional candidates for the Graham Mesa Elementary position,” Grumley said
Hermiller has a deep understanding of best practices in education
and is an emerging leader in Garfield Re-2
I am confident that his experiences and commitment to meeting every child where they are will help Graham Mesa Elementary find even more success in the future.”

Trump recently joked that he would be his own "No
Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby likes to analyze other players’ games
Crosby was watching film of many 2025 NFL Draft prospects
including the Atlanta Falcons’ newest defensive ends
Crosby is now the assistant general manager of the Eastern Michigan University football program
so brushing up on his talent evaluation as he looks for players to join the Eagles should be helpful
asked Crosby what he thought about their newest defensive tackle
Crosby invoked the name of an all-time great coach whom he referenced when watching Graham’s film
He has an all-time score; he’s been doing it all the way back to the Warren Sapp days
Why would you draft him in the top 10?’ I’m like
‘What are y’all talking about?’ Anybody who says that doesn’t watch football
everything across the board he did at a high level.”
Crosby hopes Graham succeeds as an NFL player – just not when he plays the Silver and Black
