Authorities arrested a suspected illegal alien on firearm and drug charges

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer
“Once officers made the stop on the individual

“That's where we activated our traffic stop
“It was coincidental as far as the location of the stop
“People are blowing this out of proportion like no other
That's why we had to put a press release out,” Ortis told The Highlander
“I've had two individuals come up to me and ask me questions
Granite Shoals agency officials posted a statement on their social media page after receiving a number of inquiries about whether an “ICE raid” had occurred at the scene
“A significant police presence was observed due to an ongoing investigation that led to charges related to narcotics and illegal weapons offenses,” according to the agency's social media statement
“To our knowledge there has been no ICE activity in Granite Shoals today (Jan
“However it is it important to note that the police department may not always receive prior notification of operations conduced by federal state
Agency concerns included potential violent interactions with officers and residents
“The grocery store predominantly serves the Hispanic community,” Ortis said
“What you're having is the Hispanics in Granite Shoals
are thinking that law enforcement – they automatically think – that we're ICE and we're here to take people out of their homes
“It puts a panic of fear in individuals who are afraid of potentially going to jail
Ortis confirmed that once the suspect was taken to the Burnet County Jail he was classified as an ICE detainee

All of our officers are approachable,” he said
“Our number one goal is to keep our community free of drugs
free of illegal activity … to keep our community safe,
“We will take you to jail and prosecute you to the fullest extent we can
“Our mission and goals is to ensure we have safe communities for all of our citizens.”
Alvarado-Gonzalez remained in the jail on a $50,000 surety bond for the drug charge and a $2,500 bond for the weapon charge
The detainer specified Austin ICE as the federal agency in charge of the suspects potential deportation outcome

If the event goes well in it’s new location you can sure as bet it will never come back to Marble falls
There would be no reason to and the park system is no longer a good place for many of the older events anyways
when you can’t have fun in the city park because of heavy-handed restrictions people stop going and events die

Granite Shoals Wildlife Committee contacted my non profit Texas Crossbow Hunters Club concerning this issue
and we were willing to help carefully thin the population
but the amount of red tape they continued to add to our project
but if we could sit down together and discuss what needs to be done and have a good plan that would please a majority
Our hunting club has a team of the best crossbow hunters/shooters that exists in the world
We have been doing wild boar removal for a large ranch with a childrens home for 13 years and everyone continues to be happy as there have never been any type of issues with our work
It consists of 98% retired folks who have done this most of their lives

Why should there be FEAR that ICE would be here doing their job?!
So Burnet County has become a sanctuary county
Granite Shoals arrested the guy and he wasn’t given sanctuary: so how is the whole county now a “sanctuary county”
Perhaps the point is don’t manufacture
or deliver a controlled substance – regardless of your citizenship status
Maybe it also isn’t a good idea to unlawfully carry a weapon while possessing or delivering a controlled substance

Home » Government » TxDOT » Have your say on Wirtz Dam Bridge
It will allow those who live in CWS or HSB a better route when needing to go north of the lake
GS residents heading south can avoid the 281 crossing as well
I have been a resident of Granite Shoals for 17 years and looking forward to the building of this bridge!!
The traffic in Marble Falls and especially the intersections and the bridge has been getting very heavy
This will be an amazing way to get trucks
cars and trailers from 1431 to 2147 without going through Marble falls
Thank you for bringing this to fruition!!!
It’s about time that an alternative route around Marble Falls
If you live in the Smithwick area you have to drive all the way to Marble Falls to cross the river
Doesn’t seem like a big deal to have to drive a few extra miles from Horseshoe Bay to cross the river when you are probably driving to Marble Falls anyway and vice versa
Not really noticing massive congestion on the current bridge
rerouting semi traffic to small under maintained 2 lane roads and routes
That a formula for large future taxpayer expense
Seems more prudent to use the funding to enlarge the existing bridge on 281 to accomodate
and bridge the area mentioned above in the higher growth areas coming from the east which will use the 281 Bridge unless one closer is built
I do believe historically there use to be a river crossing or an old damn in that area downriver and a much better place to consider
Does the public have access to an impact study
I agree to installing the new bridge below theHwy 281 bridge

GRANITE SHOALS — City leaders in Granite Shoals are facing intense scrutiny after audio recordings were shared suggesting euthanizing the community's feral cat population
The comments were made at a Wildlife Advisory Committee meeting in November
leading to the Hill Country Humane Society terminating its relationship with the city
Granite Shoals is a community with around 5,000 full-time residents
An audio recording from last month's meeting revealed comments from the members
alluding to euthanizing "as many and as quickly as possible."
James Tiemann is a former resident of Granite Shoals and runs a trap-neuter-return or TNR program called Lionheart TNR
but I only made it to about 30 minutes before I had to turn it off
That was about when they were saying how can we get a big cage together and maybe poison 50 all at once," said Tiemann
"You just can't talk like that in a public meeting."
He says there are humane ways to help with the growing cat community
which he estimates is nearing 8 or 900 at this point
and have the community start spay and neuter their cats
you can actually get a control on this and it makes a big difference,' said Tiemann
Humane options are what nearby community members like Steve Courtney want to see
Courtney lives about 15 miles away from Granite Shoals but regularly walks his dog on the trails
basically I'm not for euthanasia in any form if it can be avoided," said Courtney
the Hill Country Humane Society announced it would no longer provide services to granite shoals after hearing the comments
saying it reveals blatantly illegal and unethical behavior
The full letter statement can be read below:
ALSO|Over 2 million lights dazzle an Austin holiday tradition
Mayor Munos responded saying the city council does not support
or agree with the statements or opinions expressed by some members of the committee
Here is the full statement from December 21:
would like to issue a press release regarding recent events that have occurred in our community
I would like to express my gratitude to all the members of the community who attended the special City Council meeting that was held on Tuesday
Members of the City Council and I would like to reiterate that the input from everyone in attendance was much appreciated and the information received was very valuable
Members of the City Council and I have reviewed the input and information provided by everyone who spoke at the meeting
We will rely on this information to make decisions on how to move forward with addressing the various issues we are tasked with resolving
Members of the City Council and I do not support
or agree with the statements or opinions expressed by some members of the Wildlife Advisory Committee and our City Manager that occurred in recent meetings regarding possible methods to manage feral cats in our community
One of the most pressing issues at hand is to renew the City of Granite Shoals’ relationship with the Hill Country Humane Society
Mark Morren (Chairman of the City of Granite Shoals Ethics Review Commission)
Police Captain Chad Taliaferro and I met with the board of directors from the Hill Country Humane Society today on 12/20/2023
Our primary goal during this meeting was to renew our relationship with the Hill Country Humane Society
The board of directors from the Hill Country Humane Society made several recommendations and provided guidance regarding several issues they would like addressed prior to their organization and the City of Granite Shoals moving forward with renewing the relationship between our two organizations
Ethics Commission Chairman Mark Morren and I took to heart what the board of directors of the Hill Country Humane Society recommended
I will be presenting that information to Council members at the January 9
meeting so that we may move forward with renewing our relationship with the Hill Country Humane Society
The City Council and I would like to thank the citizens of Granite Shoals
Natalie Lord and members of the various organizations that have agreed to assist us with feral cat colonies in Granite Shoals
It is very apparent that we have wonderful citizens and organizations that care deeply for this community and the animals that live here with us
I’m confident that the City Council and I will take the right steps to move forward and act in the best interest of our wonderful city
The granite shoals police department was also mentioned in the letter
they say that "comments from the City Manager and members of the committee indicate that some of these activities may already be occurring by the police department," referring to killing the feral cats
the police department says they do not participate in the euthanasia of feral cats
They also spoke with CBS Austin News today
"We just leave them alone like any other wild animal
We don't put them down," said Sgt
we're in the process of working with some experts in the area to implement a TNR program."
Kos says one of the experts the police department is working with his Tiemann
Tiemann says he is currently helping the department find a "mascot" that is a TNR cat
Kos also says shooting and killing animals for population control or any other reason is considered cruelty to animals and they will pursue charges
It's now been over a month since the comments were made at the committee meeting
and the Hill Country Humane Society shared an update with CBS Austin
They say their board recently met with the mayor
They're optimistic council will take steps to demonstrate their commitment to the humane treatment of animals
The Hill Country Humane Society is dedicated to ensuring the ethical and humane treatment of animals throughout Burnet and Llano Counties and we greatly appreciate the community’s support as we strive to fulfill this mission
Our Board of Directors and Executive Director recently had an opportunity to meet with the Granite Shoals Mayor
Police Captain and the head of their ethics commission
We have also received a copy of the press release dated December 21
2023 from Mayor Munos following our meeting
We are encouraged by these actions and are optimistic the City Council will take the steps necessary to demonstrate their commitment to the ethical and humane treatment of animals within their community
We are hopeful that one day in the near future things will change that might once again allow the type of relationship that we have with our other community partners and therefore we will not provide any further comment at this time
Council members are expected to discuss the next steps at their January 9th meeting
