Edge rusher Mike Green’s wait to be drafted took longer than he would have liked
but his eventual landing spot cushioned the blow
Green led FBS players with 17 sacks at Marshall last year
which led some to predict that he’d be a first-round pick
and he told reporters at their rookie minicamp this weekend that joining the team was a silver lining to his draft experience
“That was a goal I set for myself,” Green said
but coming to the Ravens was a blessing in disguise
I honestly can say I don’t think there’s a better program or franchise I can be a part of than the Ravens.”
One reason for Green’s slide might have been a pair of sexual assault allegations from high school and college
Green has denied those allegations and said on Sunday that he’s ready to move past them as he begins his pro career
“Every team asked me and I’ve been completely open about everything,” Green said
and from this point forward I’m just focusing on moving on with my career.”
Green said that lasting into the late second round has left a chip on his shoulder that he’s planning to use as motivation as a pro
If that results in the kind of production he flashed in college
the Ravens will be very happy that no one picked him up before they came up to pick in the second round

Second-round outside linebacker Mike Green was expected to be drafted much higher but is thankful for where he landed
Green had 17 sacks last season at Marshall and was a first-round talent who fell to the Ravens at No
He has denied two sexual assault allegations made against him
and Green said he looked forward to moving on with his promising career
"I'm just blessed to be here," Green said after his first practice at rookie minicamp
I didn't get picked up in the first round like I wanted to

OLB Mike Green on getting the call from General Manager Eric DeCosta
Green broke into tears when he saw the 410 area code on his cell phone

Third-round offensive lineman Emery Jones Jr
has a shoulder injury that will keep him sidelined possibly until training camp

observed Sunday's rookie minicamp practice from the sideline
Jones is expected to add depth as a swing tackle
with the potential to compete with Andrew Vorhees for the starting job at left guard
Harbaugh said Jones' return to practice was not imminent
"It's going to be a little while," Harbaugh said
"He had a labrum/shoulder issue I don't think you guys were aware of
He's not going to practice in the immediate future."

HOUSTON — The Golden State Warriors spent their Saturday night 8 miles outside of downtown Houston
They had a team dinner at Mastro’s and a team meeting at their luxury hotel in the Galleria
Green’s speech is the one that landed the loudest
Green had a four-turnover Game 6 dud that included a first-quarter flagrant foul
sending the Warriors into an immediate spiral
“A tone-setter,” Steve Kerr said of the flagrant
“Most importantly was calling myself out … You can’t be a leader and not be accountable
You call other guys out when their s— stinks
This was a difficult series for Green. He had a spectacular last-second Game 4 stop on Alperen Şengün and again showcased his masterful defensive talent throughout the two weeks
20 turnovers and a tough time finding his way offensively against a smart Houston scheme
Ime Udoka either zoned up or put Fred VanVleet on Green throughout the series
This was done to keep Green out of the screening action with Steph Curry
After averaging 5.6 assists during the regular season
He’d also struggled to hit his open 3s and capitalize on shorter-range floaters
Green failed to score double-digit points in any of the first six games despite the Rockets’ willingness to let him have shots
After he stonewalled Şengün in crunch time to seal Game 4
roared at his home crowd in approval and was showered with two days of defensive praise
he said he got himself too charged up heading to the arena for Game 6
listening to the type of music that had him in an overly aggressive mood when the ball tipped
“I felt like I was going too far,” Green said
“I listened to ‘Check Out Time’ on the way to the game the other day
Green committed an unnecessary flagrant foul on Jalen Green at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter and spent the next several minutes stomping around in the huddle about the call
“He’s the key to our team,” Kerr told The Athletic
What makes him great is also his kryptonite
And he knew last game that flagrant right away set a bad tone
He was emotional afterwards in the timeout
Flagrant foul when a guy just wraps you up
Then Kerr mentioned Curry’s turnover numbers
He’d committed 14 turnovers in the three losses in the series
“When Draymond is centered and organized and poised and Steph is taking care of the ball
it’s so easy for the rest of the group just to follow and do their jobs,” Kerr said
“But if those guys are scattered and throwing the ball around
now everything goes haywire and we’re scrambling.”
Green said he changed up his pregame routine on Sunday
He wanted to enter Game 7 with a calm approach
He had a layup and two 3s in the first five minutes — part of a 16-point performance — and didn’t celebrate either jumper with his patented “Boom!” yell
“I pouted way too much last game,” Green said
“I spent the last two days embarrassed at what I gave to the game
Green’s night didn’t come without incident
he was hit on the arm by VanVleet up top and
he flailed and nailed VanVleet in the chin
The officials reviewed it and assessed Green a technical foul
“How?” Green briefly yelled down toward the referees
“He didn’t react and go talk to the refs and try to plead his case,” Curry said

— Golden State Warriors (@warriors) May 5, 2025
Green and Curry had a conversation before the game about keeping the Rockets under 90 points
Houston’s defense is a bear to score against
but the Rockets can be contained in a half-court setting
Curry and Green made sure to limit turnovers
which would curtail the Rockets’ fast-break opportunities and then
The Warriors shut off the 3-point line (Houston only got up 18 attempts)
funneled the ball into help and allowed Green to work one-on-one against Şengün any time the Rockets wanted
Şengün went an inefficient 9 of 23 shooting
a Kevon Looney cameo and Curry (10 rebounds)
As Curry and Green walked off the floor late in the fourth quarter
“What I respect more than anything is the way he can talk to anybody and everybody
and it’s so on point and quick,” Butler said of Green
But Green doesn’t leave the first round unscathed
As the Warriors learned in 2016 when he was suspended during the NBA Finals
the league has playoff technical and flagrant limits that roll over each round
Players receive a one-game suspension after their seventh playoff technical and a one-game suspension after accumulating four flagrant points
Green is already at four technicals and two flagrant points at the end of the first round
That’s something that both general manager Mike Dunleavy and Kerr said they’d have to emphasize to Green in the lead-up to the second round
“One thing I’ll say about Dray is that in the regular season
he always goes right up to the edge and never gets suspended,” Kerr said
undersized center who has lost some of his athletic pop and can only survive on the interior if his fire is burning to a ferocious degree
That can lead him to boil over during tense moments and often puts him in the crosshairs of officials
“He flails sometimes like after a play happens if somebody fouls him,” Kerr said
“His natural instinct is to flail his arms
and sometimes he makes contact like he did tonight and then that’s a tech or that’s a flagrant
but we’ll definitely address it before the start of the next series.”
Awaiting in the next series: Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves, a physical team employing a center whom Green once put in a chokehold, leading to a five-game suspension
Green brushed aside any concern about the characters involved
but he knows his technical and flagrant count and importance to his team
“I have to keep it similarly (calm) for my guys,” Green said
finding that line and not crossing it is important for me and this team

Draymond Green explains he was 'embarrassed' after losing his poise in Game 6
Draymond Green talks with the media following his team's win over the Rockets in Game 7
HOUSTON (AP) — Golden State’s Draymond Green spent the last two days embarrassed after losing his poise early in a Game 6 loss to the Houston Rockets
He told the team in a meeting before Game 7 that he’d set a much better tone on Sunday night
He did just that, keeping his cool to help the Warriors advance to the Western Conference semifinals with a 103-89 win
“He said: ‘I’ve got to be poised and I have to be better and we’re gonna come in here tomorrow and get it done,’” coach Steve Kerr said
just his poise from the start I thought it set a great tone.”
Green picked up an offensive foul at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter for shoving Jalen Green
The play went to review and the foul was determined to be a flagrant-1
The four-time NBA champ believes that play contributed to how things went down in the 115-107 loss Friday night and said that was the reason they got “bullied.”
I spent the last two days embarrassed just at what I gave to the game
Stephen Curry adds 22 points and the Warriors take Game 7 at Houston to survive and advance
To make sure he kept his emotions in check this game the notoriously fiery player spent time at the spa
meditated and listened only to slow music in the last two days
Only songs from artists such as Brent Faiyaz
SZA and 90s R&B stars were on his playlist leading up to this game
“I know I can ratchet my intensity up,” he said
He said he was dying to get back on the court and show that he could be a much better leader as the Warriors tried to advance to the next round
And Green delivered a strong defensive performance with no emotional lapses that cost the team Sunday night
“I wanted to come out and prove again just who I am with poise but with the same fire and same tenacity,” he said
“I think I delivered that and gave our guys something to follow.”

Rockets guard Jalen Green struggled in the series, which was his first taste of playoff action since entering the NBA in 2021. After the Game 7 loss, in which he had just eight points, Green offered some harsh self-criticism
admitting that he wasn't pleased with his own performance
I got to be better," Green told reporters after the loss
Green started all seven games for the Rockets in their opening round matchup against Golden State
but he performed well below his expected level
5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting just 37.2% from the field and 29.5% from three-point range
Those numbers came on the heels of a strong regular season in which he averaged 21.0 points and shot at a 35.4% clip from deep
Green's best night of the series came in Game 2
when he scored 38 points and made eight threes
Green never scored more than 12 points in a single contest and made just five three-pointers the rest of the series
Green made clear he wasn't pleased with his performance and didn't mince words while assessing his level of play
so he'll look to use it as a learning experience and make the necessary adjustments ahead of next season

Utah (KUTV) — Residents are speculating that a meteorite struck Ogden on Saturday night after several people reported seeing a bright green ball of light streaking across the sky
Videos and images began circulating on social media around 9:30 p.m
One resident shared surveillance camera footage showing what appeared to be a ball of light soaring across the northern sky
Another described the spectacle as a “huge green fireball.”
A woman in Ogden posted a photo of what she said was a plume of green smoke near 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard
She noted that she saw a bright flash in the sky
followed by an echoing sound and rising smoke
Although the fireball appeared to fall in Ogden
it was visible from as far away as Riverton
At the end of April, NASA reported the annual Eta Aquarids meteor shower would be active from April 20 to May 21
Authorities said these meteors are known for their high speed and would be visible in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres

Green International Airport has scrapped a plan to hire a private company to screen passengers at security checkpoints after it said that delays in lines have gotten better
Airport officials raised concerns about growing lines at airport checkpoints in October
at a monthly meeting of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation's board
the state agency that runs Green and five other
decided to hire a consultant to study the checkpoints
An inspection found that lines of passengers waiting for screening in November had backed up outside of the terminal
according to a news release from the airport
with more passengers using the airport than during the November inspection
the lines were "nonexistent," according to the airport
It credited improved screening performance by the Transportation Security Administration
In late April, airport spokesman Bill Fischer told The Providence Journal that the airport corporation was considering joining a TSA program that allows airports to hire private companies to conduct passenger screenings
the corporation announced that it had "decided to rescind its application to enroll in the TSA’s Screening Partnership Program," according to the news release
The proposal had drawn criticism from Rhode Island elected officials, including U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and R.I. Rep. Megan Cotter

In an era of NBA basketball when everyone seems to like each other
when the rivalries that helped build the game have gradually disappeared
the level of enmity that will hang in the air at Target Center on Tuesday night when the Golden State Warriors open their second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves will harken back to the days when Kevin McHale was clotheslining Kurt Rambis
There is bad blood between Warriors star Jimmy Butler and the entire state of Minnesota, stemming from Butler’s messy exit from the Timberwolves in 2018. Wolves fans took personally the way Butler burned the house down on his way out the door
and they have been waiting for four years to have a chance to let Butler know that they haven’t forgiven him
The last time Butler was on the court and in uniform at Target Center, he was wearing a Miami Heat uniform, the crowd was taking out all of its frustration on him and Anthony Edwards was dunking Butler’s teammate into oblivion
and Butler has not played in Minnesota since
The fans have chosen to take those absences as an extension of a cold war
“Don’t ask me about Minnesota,” Butler said as he left Houston’s Toyota Center on Sunday night following Golden State’s Game 7 win over the Rockets
Being ignored has only turned up the heat for Wolves fans as the playoffs are about to resume
Green also served as a guest panelist on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” show during the Wolves’ appearance in the Western Conference finals last year
He was so critical of Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns that the Wolves decided to boycott the set after their lone victory in Game 4 of the series against the Dallas Mavericks
Minnesotans are notorious for being passive-aggressive; the Scandinavian roots that run through this state infuse its people with a sense of pragmatism and an aversion to confrontation
That all gets thrown out the window when they see Butler and Green
Target Center was rocking and rolling during the Timberwolves’ first-round dismissal of the Los Angeles Lakers

Butler figured prominently in the Timberwolves making the playoffs in 2017, ending a miserable 14-year playoff drought for the franchise. He quickly endeared himself to the fans with his toughness, work ethic and fighter’s mentality
But that honeymoon barely lasted a full season
and the sugar high from that playoff appearance brought with it another crash for a franchise full of them
He demanded a trade before his second season in Minnesota even started
casting what everyone hoped would be another playoff run into full-blown chaos
Almost everyone from that ill-fated and short-lived era of Timberwolves basketball is gone
Team president and coach Tom Thibodeau was fired later that season after his handling of the situation and the paltry return the Wolves received
General manager Scott Layden was not retained after that season
The entire coaching staff and roster have turned over
the two young players often associated with Butler’s discontent
It was true that Butler had his frustrations with some of the young players on that Wolves team
Butler watched as the Wolves extended Wiggins and Towns with max contracts
The rules of the collective bargaining agreement at the time prevented the Wolves from offering Butler a full max extension until the summer of 2019
He wanted the Wolves to salary dump some players on their roster to create the cap space to allow them to make him that offer immediately
Butler was eventually traded to Philadelphia for a package that included Robert Covington
Dario Saric and zero first-round draft picks
It was a disaster of a return for a player with so much talent
When Butler enjoyed success in Philadelphia and Miami
it served in some corners as a repudiation of the Timberwolves
Butler led the Heat to two NBA Finals appearances before another toxic divorce led him to Golden State near the trade deadline in February
Butler came to a Warriors team that was flailing at 25-26 and was embraced from the moment he joined the team
He meshed quickly with Green and Steph Curry
3 net rating (9.2 points per 100 possessions) over those final 31 games
“I think this group is capable of exactly what we set out to do
which is win a championship,” Green said after beating the Rockets on Sunday night
The Wolves went 21-10 in that same span with the No
Minnesota has Butler to thank for its current upswing
The return on the trade was so bad that it plunged the Wolves into two horrendous seasons
They won 19 games the season after he was traded
a bottoming out that got them the top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and brought Edwards to Minnesota
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the brightest stars in the league, someone fully capable of putting a long-struggling franchise on his back and leading it to contention
Edwards helped lead the Wolves to their first conference finals berth in 20 years
he has helped hold the team together after some early-season struggles to incorporate Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo
who came to Minnesota in the trade that sent Towns to New York right before training camp started
After a 4-1 victory over the Lakers in the first round
giving the Wolves playoff series wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in franchise history
Edwards has the Timberwolves brimming with confidence that they can return to the conference finals
Edwards has already beaten Kevin Durant and Devin Booker
Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray and LeBron James and Luka Dončić in his young playoff career
The Warriors went 3-1 against the Wolves this season
and all those games were played before they acquired Butler and started to take off
They also took place long before the Wolves started to build the right chemistry with Randle and DiVincenzo that carried them through the first round of the playoffs
so there is not much to read into the regular-season matchups
One certainty is that there will be no such thing as Minnesota nice when the second round begins
Butler and Green are the kind of players who thrive off the hate
and there will be plenty of it at Target Center

got every cheap whistle while beating the crap out of Steph while GSW got no whistles ever
The West was too close to call from positions 2-8 this year
GSW finishes at least a top 4 team in the West
Man you gotta get over the over the top Dillon Brooks hate
He’s a good player and helped this team grow over the last two years
Just floors me as a GS fan you can legit hate Brooks to that level while actively rooting for Draymond
@CamFrost the fact you think they are the same type of player proves you don’t know ball
Draymond is 10000x better than Brooks at every aspect of basketball
Dillon Brooks has been a net negative to the Rockets
That’s because Brooks is playing top 5 minutes a game instead of 5 mins a game like his skillset and IQ allows him in this league
You give ME a break – YOU are the one replying to ME – I wasn’t asking your opinion
Well when you put something ridiculous on the internet for anyone to see
anyone can respond “lil broski.” You’re emotionally attached to this Dillon Brooks hate and it clouds your ability to see how he’s very obviously a valuable player
Draymond is a very good player and always has been
You HATE Brooks for what he does while at the exact same time can watch Draymond get multiple techs and flagrant fouls in a 7 game series
It believes that Curry winning rings somehow makes him a winner and everyone else losers
Rockets fans wanted to trade Jalen Green/fillers for Giannis
Amen Thompson is def going to be a star … if he ever develops a consistent jumper or 3pt shot
No kidding – at his age (22) he’s probably the best young sf in the league
he should be one of maybe 2 Rockets that are untouchable
Their 2 best players range can be measured in inches rather than feet (Amen/Sengun)
Green Jabari Lawndale Whitmore for KD math works
Throw in a couple picks you got a stew baby (Rip CW)
Yes 3rd team most likely in any regards so both teams take less money and Hou wouldn’t have to be capped at apron 1 ~ Green can def go anywhere
I had Lawndale moving to 3rd team in scenario above but Hou has a ton of routes to chose
Cam is 20 and Ime barely played him in the playoffs
FVV is overpaid but is one of the few vets
I’d try to keep Adams but he’s going to have a lot of interest
and Whitmore are the chips they can use to make a big addition if they wanted to… Booker
Trade Green allow Reed to workout by putting him in the starting lineup so they a have a deep throat
Keep Fred then recruit the best FA to fit their team.
Somethings will depend on where they end up in the lottery
IF they land Ace Bailey or Derik Queen – you can feel better about moving Jabari Smith instead of paying him a year from now and kicking the can on paying playeres
I think you could get a FRP from someone like the Sixers if they landed at 5 or 6 and not looking to draft Queen or Maluach themselves
I would think Jalen Green has clearly been the odd-man out for bringing in a legitimate star player
Reed Sheppard can be added to that deal – buts already imo
IF I was ranking their trade targets – Giannis
LaMelo all might be available but come with risk (age
I’d only be willing to discuss trades around Booker with the Suns if I was the Rockets
The Suns have zero leverage in that discussion
but the Rockets can just hold onto the Suns picks as well
Cam Whitmore pick 9 and and protected future first for Trae Young and pick 22
Jalen Green and the 9th overall pick for LaMelo Ball
Cam Whitmore and the 9th overall pick for Coby White and pick 45
Cam Whitmore and the 9th overall pick for Lauri Markeneen and Keyonte George

outside linebacker Mike Green was upfront about the fact that two sexual assault allegations have been made against him
after being drafted by the Ravens in the second round
Green declined to explain how two separate allegations were made
I’m just focused right now on moving forward with my career at the Ravens
I’m glad to see what the future might hold for me.”
Green was projected by many to be a first-round pick
just knowing that you have first-round potential and just knowing that
regardless what team you was going to go to
you just wanted a chance to go in the first round,” Green said
but coming to the Ravens was a blessing in disguise.”
The Baltimore Banner thanks its sponsors. Become one.
Green said every team he talked to asked about the allegations and he was “completely open” about them
The Ravens were satisfied with what they learned from him and from their investigative team
The Ravens said multiple times they did their “due diligence” and ran a “thorough” and “exhaustive” investigation
other than saying they talked to Green and people at Marshall and the University of Virginia
they did not explain who they talked to and what their findings were
said the Ravens were not one of the 12 to 15 teams that spoke to him
“We understand the severity of what these allegations were
of course,” said general manager Eric DeCosta
who told reporters he met with Green in his office for 90 minutes during a predraft visit
who is being investigated by the NFL for allegations of inappropriate behavior during massage therapy sessions
who was investigated for domestic assault but not charged due to a lack of information
Green’s sexual assault allegations came at two different times in two different places
The first was while Green was in high school
A spokesperson for the Charlottesville (Va.) Police Department said it was notified of an alleged sexual assault on Aug
No injuries or property damage was reported
The investigation into the incident has been suspended
and the department declined to release the police report
The school did not respond to a request for more information
Green said he has “done nothing wrong.” He was never charged
a move Huff said he was comfortable with because there were “no legal documents that said
this is exactly what happened.’” According to Huff
Green would discuss the situation openly with the team
they do something that‘s embarrassing and they don’t like talking about it
“But Mike would stand up in front of the position room or stand up in front of the team and tell them about his story and how one decision or a group of decisions could almost ruin your career.”
no one shared details of what Green would say about “his story” or what the potentially ruinous decision he made was
He was asked if he could shed light on how two separate allegations came about
He did say he has taken advantage of resources “that not just helped me with just on the field but the mental aspect as well,” but that he would have taken advantage of them regardless
Although he knew he might fall in the draft based on character concerns
Green said all he needed was one team to take a chance on him
And now he doesn’t want to dwell on the two sexual assault allegations

Green Turtle Brewery and Public House will open next month at 534 Central Avenue
A British-style brewery featuring traditional brewing methods and British fare is set to open next month in the space that Cycle Brewing
Cycle Brewing will close its taproom sometime this month
but will continue to brew beer at its production warehouse at 2135 5th Avenue South
Green Turtle Brewery and Public House
located at 534 Central Avenue in downtown St
will serve classic styles of beer such as IPAs
which are traditional British beers brewed using natural fermentation and served via hand pump
“It's the freshest beer you can have because it undergoes secondary fermentation in the cask,” said Todd Bearden
who is opening Green Turtle Brewery with his wife
Cask ale is a living product containing active yeast
which causes it to change over time and require fresh consumption
so you can have a few without getting too buzzed or feeling too full
Using the same seven-barrel brewing system previously operated by Cycle Brewing
the team will be able to produce up to four beers at once

Green Turtle will have three cask ales and eight to ten non-cask ales on tap
Other offerings will include English pale ales
“We will also have seasonal beers such as a Maibock in the spring
more refreshing options like a key lime lager in the summer,” said Bearden
Green Turtle will feature special cask ales with rotating flavor profiles
“We can get really creative with the cask ales
we can add fresh hops or fresh fruit directly into the cask,” said Bearden
The brewery may also offer beers from Cycle Brewing
as well as rare international brews when available

Bearden will install a small kitchen at the end of the bar to serve traditional British fare such as pasties (similar to empanadas)
we want people to come for the food,” said Todd
Green Turtle plans on showing European football and rugby matches alongside local sports
Todd and Colleen originally considered opening the brewery in Marathon
a nonprofit sea turtle rehabilitation center
The name Green Turtle Brewery was inspired by that connection
opening a brewery there would have been financially difficult,” Todd explained
we started looking for breweries for sale in Florida and found Cycle Brewing.”
having visited countless times to see Colleen’s parents
The brewery is scheduled to open in June with the following hours: Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m

How Green Was My Valley is playing this Wednesday, May 7, at the Ambler Theater
Come see it and support the Ambler and check out MovieJawn’s table before or after the show
Before I discovered my love of John Ford’s movies
I only knew two things about How Green Was My Valley: I first heard of it in a 1996 Frasier episode called “High Crane Drifter”* and that it infamously beat Citizen Kane for Best Picture at the Academy Awards
Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammar) brings up How Green Was My Valley twice in the episode
and his goal of watching it is thwarted twice due to what Crane believes is an erosion of etiquette among the general public
The episode opens with Frasier complaining about someone once again taking his parking spot at the radio station where he works
and Roz says he should let the air out of the tires to teach the parking spot thief a lesson
the world has become uncivilized enough without me stooping to that level. Of course I was sorely tempted last night
I went to the movies to see How Green Was My Valley. Lady Luck seated me in front of two elderly women who said with the arrival of each new actor
you know." Finally I had to just walk out
Frasier heads to a video store in search of How Green Was My Valley
After waiting on the clerk to finish with a customer on the phone (and complaining about people who call into stores getting priority over in-person customers)
he describes the movie as “a beautifully-acted depiction of life in a small town in Wales. It won five Academy Awards! It's a classic!” After being sarcastically directed to the store’s Classics section
Frasier discovers that the tape is being rented by another customer who overheard his description to the clerk
that would be across the street in our How Green Was My Valley annex.”
This scene is hilarious and also perfectly demonstrates the cultural impact of How Green Was My Valley: a stodgy old movie with no movie stars only watched by the same people who love opera
and handmade loafers made in Italy–you know
Frasier Crane types–that somehow beat out The Best Movie Ever Made for Best Picture
there is a depth of emotion brought to life by a tightly-written script
mesmerizing performances and thoughtful cinematography that demonstrates the power of hope and perseverance that feels earned and never condescending
How Green Was My Valley is based on Richard Llewellyn’s 1939 novel of the same name
set in a fictional South Wales coal mining town
The story is told from the adult perspective of Huw Morgan (played on screen by a young Roddy McDowell
while adult Huw’s voiceover is provided by Irving Pichel)
Huw lives with his father Gwilym (Donald Crisp)
All of the men in the Morgan family work in the nearby mine
had only begun to cover the sides of our hill
for the colliery had only begun to poke its skinny black fingers through the green
” While older Huw looks back on his youth through a nostalgic lens in the voiceover
we see the hardship and tragedy the family experiences over the course of the film
How Green Was My Valley is one of those movies with multiple funerals and weddings
and not all of the weddings are joyous.
A few years ago, I started to make my way through the massive Ford at Fox DVD box set
but dropped off the project after 1933’s Pilgrimage in 2022
so I never made it to How Green Was My Valley until now
I certainly have a much greater appreciation for this kind of drama than I did when I was younger
I’d have been hung up on the choices made by the characters
judging them for not bootstrapping their way out of a life of working in a coal mine
How Green Was My Valley deeply resonated with me
Because it is told from a child’s perspective
that was the time before things went wrong–a strong tug to audiences who were watching this in 1941
when America was transitioning between the Great Depression and the war in Europe and Asia
The first major incident to happen in the film is a coal miner’s strike
The Morgan sons are also mad that their father is being made to stand in the elements to check the coal trams
They start an argument at the dinner table–Gwilym usually forbids any speaking during meals–wanting to strike
Gwilym says that fighting injustice “is not more important than good manners” and forbids his sons from making him “a plank for [their] politics.” “I will not be the excuse for any strike,” the elder Morgan says
Talking politics at dinner and striking on his behalf are both anathemas to Gwilym
“I will speak against injustice anywhere- with permission or without it,” says Owen (James Monks)
but if manners prevent our speaking the truth-we will be without manners.”
and his choice in cuts (often done in camera so as to prevent any infringement on his vision during the editing process) equally underlines the transgression of manners and the love of the sons for their father
Their solution to strike is one meant as solidarity
both with their father and their fellow miners
but the Morgan patriarch sees these actions as his sons pushing against the social order
abandoning etiquette as soon as it suits them
Ford also captures a deep sense of empathy for Gwilym as well
This is a man who is so deeply invested in avoiding the deadly sins of pride and greed (“money was made to be spent…but always with a purpose” is one of his firm beliefs) that he will continue to value modesty even at the expense of his ability to provide for his family
though I would have thought the latter when I was younger
there is reconciliation between the sons and their father
but some of the younger Morgans are forced to leave the valley to seek a better life elsewhere because of the continued reduction in wages and jobs
and are willing to push back on the status quo
the entire valley faces additional hardships caused by the lack of wages
and while the miners stay in their resolve
and a rock is thrown into the Morgan home because of Gwilym’s continued refusal to strike because labor unions are “socialist nonsense.” Beth goes to the meeting
You are a lot of cowards to go against him
He has done nothing against you and he never would and you know it well
For you to think he is with the owners is not only nonsense but downright wickedness
How some of you can sit in the same Chapel with him I cannot tell
There is one thing more I will say and that is this
If harm comes to my Gwilym I will find out the men and I will kill them with my hands
And when Sarah Allgood threatens to kill a man with her bare hands
A doctor later compares the Morgans favorably to horses for their physical toughness and stubbornness
and this trait comes to the seven Morgan children from both sides of their lineage
Angharad displays a similar fire for fighting hypocrisy
especially when it comes to the church’s view of women
Beth is not to be crossed and not to be messed with
and her wisdom shows through her lack of education.
on the family’s hopes he might be able to go to university
Gruffydd explains a math problem about filling a bathtub with water as water drains out of a hole in the tub
“Who would pour water in an old bath with holes
The bathtub full of holes becomes the central metaphor for the film
as Beth never quite lets go of the ‘bathtub full of holes’ as her way of saying that there is a difference between theoretical and practical knowledge
But it also provides a window into the mindset of the entire Morgan family
those aspirations seemingly draining out as fast as the tub can be filled
The valley becomes polluted by mining spoil and thick smoke
One of Huw’s brothers is killed in the mine
even when the entire bathtub feels like it is made of holes
They suffer from systemic issues caused by religion and capitalism
but they push forward as if their choices can save them all
the mine also leaving its black mark on the young boy
As Scott Eyman writes in Print the Legend: The Life and Times of John Ford:
Criticisms about the film being an inaccurate depiction of a mining town are irrelevant; it is life seen through the eyes of a child
the characters are drawn with the broad strokes of an awestruck boy
bathed in the golden glow of an adult's remembrance of his childhood
And it is one of the most cogent statements of one of Ford’s deepest themes: the way that time’s flow destroys the old ways
which must die in order for the future to take hold
and Gwilym Morgan and Huw’s childhood with them
Huw longs for a time when things made more sense to him
when there was a sense of order and manners in the world
Just as Americans longed for a time before the Great Depression
they were not looking to welcome back robber barons and the political corruption associated with the Roaring Twenties
but for their own sense of innocence lost.
and those feelings are captured through a range of techniques
So when you watch How Green Was My Valley or any other Ford film
even if they don’t seem relatable on the surface.
Maybe our own Roaring Twenties makes How Green Was My Valley seem more urgent and alive than it did in that 1996 episode of Frasier–not because we seem to have buried etiquette at the bottom of a coal mine–but because right now every aspiration we have feels so hard to hold onto in the current state of the world
with only our hope and perseverance trying to keep pace with how quickly the tub will drain

A WoTF ProductionPowered by teamwork. And movies.
Except in one little portion of the West. Instead of having the No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchup of the Houston Rockets (RIP) and the Los Angeles Lakers (also RIP), the Minnesota Timberwolves as the No. 6 seed will be playing the Golden State Warriors as the No
You can’t really call this an unlikely matchup
Though the Lakers made the Luka Dončić trade this year
they were quite bare behind their starting five
Steph Curry will scare me until the day he trips on stage at a Paramore concert
and gets carried into the ocean by 25 superfans singing “Ain’t It Fun,” none of them ever to be seen again
They don’t feel like they win basketball games
Draymond probably thinks Rudy has a few Defensive Player of the Year awards that he feels should belong to him
How you get from that point to choking another person seconds into a basketball game is a bit hazier
Now we’re getting at least four games of them facing off against each other
Golden State tried a few minutes with a different big on the floor instead of Draymond (once again
not a super deep team) but for the majority of the time
you’d think Draymond would be the big against Rudy
It’s everything you could ever want, and once again we have at least four games of it! Draymond could go back to the choke hold, or maybe even put on an arm bar. Rudy could get support from RFK Jr. and retweet it. Draymond hasn’t punched anyone in a while, as far as we know. Is he due? What if Rudy eats an entire basketball?
This is what I imagine other people felt when they found out someone had a crush on them
The likelihood of something sinister and/or dumb happening in this series between these two players is very high
What kind of mistake it will be decided on the court

Draymond Green and someone he has a problem with are facing off in the next round
The American Athletic Conference slate has not been as kind to the Green Wave. After dropping two of three to the Florida Atlantic Owls over the weekend
Tulane holds an 11-10 record in conference play
The Owls are certainly no slouch on the diamond
They are one of only two teams in the conference with 30 or more wins to this point in the year
The Green Wave does still have an opportunity to join that group with seven games left in the regular season
there was still a performance that Uhlman can be proud of
doing everything he could at the plate to keep his team in the fight
Game one on Saturday saw the senior go 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI
though one ended in a sacrifice fly for one of his plethora of runs batted in
The second half of the doubleheader saw more of the same from Schulz
After lighting up the scoreboard with five RBI in game one
and added his second stolen base of the year to his final line
Schulz would be held in check in the final game of the weekend
He would still score a run after reaching on a walk

Amid Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s whirlwind on-again-off-again romance
the Transformers star’s ex Brian Austin Green detailed her “quick moving” on with the rapper during their 2021 divorce
Brian Austin Green thought he was Megan Fox’s twin flame
Five years after he and the Jennifer’s Body star—who share kids Noah

“It was a quick moving thing,” Brian—who admitted he was “devastated” by Megan wanting a divorce—admitted on the Oldish podcast May 5

the 51-year-old—whose battle with ulcerative colitis left him bedridden for years just before his divorce—noted that his health issues helped him get through that difficult life chapter

“I was genuinely in a place of with all of the stuff I’ve dealt with

Still, he admitted that watching Megan and MGK—who broke up in December just a few months before welcoming their first baby together—have such a connection was “really hard.”
“I had absolute moments of jealousy and all the normal things you go through.”
The Desperate Housewives alum—who also shares Kassius, 21, with ex Vanessa Marcil and Zane, 2, with fiancée Sharna Burgess—couldn’t even blame Megan at the time
Even though it was a s--tty situation I really didn’t want to bad mouth her and I wanted the best for her

whose divorce from the Transformers star was finalized in 2021

This loss has to sting the Rockets, given their poor history against the Warriors. While most of the losses were endured by the James Harden-era Rockets
it seems the new core hasn't been able to change their fortunes so far

Exclusive: Surprise challenger Zack Polanski says party can learn from success of Nigel Farage and Reform UK
A leading Green has launched a surprise campaign to oust Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay as party leaders
saying the party needs to be less timid and transform itself into a radical
who has been deputy leader since 2022 and serves as a London assembly member
will challenge Denyer and Ramsay this summer despite them taking the party to its best-ever general election result last year
Polanski told the Guardian he believed the pair had done a good job, but that the Greens needed to meet the challenge of Reform UK, which has a membership about four times bigger than his party and surged to a mass of victories in Thursday’s local elections
“People are done with the two old parties and we’re in this dangerous moment where Nigel Farage is absolutely ready to fill that vacuum,” Polanski said
But there are things we can learn in terms of being really clear in speaking to people
where we’re not being as bold as we can be
Being sensible and professional are good qualities
But I don’t think they should be the central qualities.”
The Greens in England and Wales have about 60,000 members
a discrepancy Polanski said indicated the need for a change of direction
“I don’t believe there are more people in this country who align with the politics of Reform than they do with the Green party,” he said. “In fact we know that, because when Green party policies are polled, they are frequently the most-liked policies, and we are the most-liked party. So why are people not joining?
“We’re not visible enough. I don’t want to see our membership grow incrementally. I want to see us be a mass movement. There’s something here around eco-populism: still being absolutely based in evidence, science and data – and never losing that – but telling a really powerful story.”
Polanksi, a former Liberal Democrat who only joined the Greens in 2017, is little-known outside the party, but is increasingly used for media duties. A former drama student with a background in community theatre, he often takes a more pugnacious approach than Denyer or Ramsay.
It is nonetheless a risky move to challenge a leadership duo who defied electoral expectations in quadrupling the Greens’ total of parliamentary seats last July, with Denyer and Ramsay winning seats along with Siân Berry, a former co-leader, and Ellie Chowns.
Thursday’s elections resulted in yet more local successes, with a net gain of 41 seats. But at the same time, a projection of how the vote would look if held nationally had the Greens in fifth place on 11%, a solid performance but without obvious signs of a mass breakthrough.
Polanski argues the party needs to take advantage of “massive” disillusionment with the Labour government, something he said was for now mainly helping fuel support for Reform.
“If you were trying to create the circumstances for the far right to rise, you would be doing exactly what Keir Starmer is doing now, which is protecting the wealth and power of the super rich,” he said.
Under party rules, the Greens normally hold leadership elections every two years. Denyer and Ramsay were, however, last elected in 2021, a cycle extended by timetable changes and then a delay for last year’s general election.
Read moreNominations for this year’s election open on 2 June
with voting by party members taking place during August
Polanski will face increased scrutiny – including of an early and slightly curious brush with infamy
the Sun ran an article which recounted that Polanski
had promised to use the technique to try to enlarge a female client’s breasts
Polanski said the idea came from the client – who turned out to be a Sun journalist – and that he did not charge them
He said that rather than literal enlargement
the process was meant to help with bodily self-image
He nonetheless says he takes full responsibility: “I’m a grown adult
and I have choice about what I do and what I don’t do
I’ve apologised for it and I stick by that apology.”
Nearly four years after Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox divorced in 2021
90210 alum detailed why he was “devastated” when the Transformers star broached the topic
Brian Austin Green is reflecting on his connection with Megan Fox
Four years after the couple—who share kids Noah
8—divorced in 2021 following 10 years of marriage
90210 alum detailed the heartbreak he felt when the Transformersstar asked for a divorce
“She was a breath of fresh air coming out of what felt like Vietnam to me,” Brian—who was previously engaged to Vanessa Marcil, with whom he shares 21-year-old son Kassius—explained on a May 5 episode of the Oldish podcast
“She forced me to laugh again and enjoy life.”
because they had made it through a rough patch in 2015 before welcoming their youngest child
‘We got this,’ We had already been through almost 15 years of a relationship together so I believed it and I think she believed it at the time also.”
Brian understood that Megan—who was just 18 when the couple started dating—felt she had “missed out” on parts of life by diving into a family too quickly
“It became overwhelming for her,” he recalled
Brian—who shares son Zane, 2, with fiancée Sharna Burgess—admitted that it was also difficult to see the Jennifer’s Body star move on so quickly with Machine Gun Kelly
“It was a quick moving thing. It went from, ‘Hey we should get a divorce’ to all of a sudden like, ‘Hey my twin flame,’ and ‘I manifested him,’” Brian recalled of Megan, who recently welcomed a baby with MGK
“It sucks and it’s really hard and I had moments of jealousy and all the normal things you go through.”
The only way Brian felt he could make it through that rough patch
was to quietly sit back and let everything unfold
especially when it came to allegations that he had “groomed” Megan
“Time is the only thing that regulates that.”

"Of course it's gonna affect the kids
The only choice you have is how it affects the kids."
Likewise, Megan makes a point not to speak ill of her kids' father around them. "I don't let anything in my energy like that when I'm around my kids," she said on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2023

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green clearly couldn't resist a goodhearted troll when he discovered Inside the NBA's Charles Barkley had emphatically selected the Houston Rockets in Sunday night's playoff Game 7, and took to his Instagram for a bit of fun
Aafter the contest had concluded—and the Warriors had walked away with a very definitive win—Green shared the clip of Barkley's prediction to his IG story and added the caption
"I think the Rockets gonna win tonight
Steph [Curry's] gonna be aggressive but it's not gonna be enough
I'm guaranteeing the Rockets win tonight."
Draymond isn’t letting Chuck’s pregame prediction slide 😂[via @Money23Green’s IG] pic.twitter.com/tigouexGEb
Green then escalated things ever so slightly in the following slide
which featured another clip of Barkley claiming the Warriors "blew" the series in Game 6
"My OG brother doesn't understand championship pedigree," seemingly a reference to the fact that Barkley never won an NBA title during his 16 seasons in the league
"We love you Chuckster," Green continued
adding in tiny print: "You do have a couple Golds though."
Barkley also claimed ahead of the game that star Steph Curry is "starting to wear down" and no longer "capable of getting to 50 points" per game this late in the season
considering Curry most recently dropped 50+ points in a game back in April
just another example of the analyst betting against Golden State for this contest
Even so, the Warriors walked away from Game 7 with a 103–89 victory, and yet another playoff win vs. the Rockets. Dubs guard Buddy Hield dropped a game-leading 33 points
and Green (16) all had solid contributions
it's safe to say at this point that Barkley's prediction just did not age well

The chess match between head coaches Chris Finch and Steve Kerr promises to be a good one
And then there's Rudy Gobert and Draymond Green
This series will feature two of the greatest defenders of this generation
and it just so happens that neither guy likes the other very much
Ahead of this Western Conference semifinals series between Minnesota and Golden State
let's take a look back at the timeline of the beef between these two prideful players
Gobert came into the NBA one year later as the 27th pick
they established themselves as being among the league's elite defensive players — in different ways
Green was an instinctive switching menace and on-ball defender who was a key part of a Warriors core that became a dynasty in the mid-to-late 2010s
Gobert was the classic dominant rim protector who blocked lots of shots and deterred far more
but his Jazz teams didn't have the same postseason success
2017 is the year where things maybe started to bubble a bit
Green won his first (and still only) defensive player of the year award to cap the 2016-17 season
with Gobert finishing second in the voting
Both players mentioned the other directly in comments to the media
the peak Warriors swept the Jazz in the second round (they went 16-1 in the postseason that year and won the title)
This is where the first personal blow took place. After Gobert got emotional in a press conference when discussing not making the All-Star game
Green (who didn't make it either) threw this jab on social media
A random user replied "Like u cried in the parking lot for KD?" to that tweet
referencing the rumor that Green called Kevin Durant after the Warriors lost the 2016 Finals
Gobert had won his first DPOY in 2018 and went on to win the award again in 2019 and 2021
Gobert took the high road and said he didn't have any beef with Green when asked about it later that year
But then he couldn't quite resist chiming in when Green infamously punched teammate Jordan Poole in October
Green posted the exact same four-word message when Gobert threw a punch at teammate Kyle Anderson on the final day of the 2022-23 regular season
Green then went on his podcast and discussed the incident
saying "I personally think Rudy Gobert is on the softer side" and that he actually gained some respect for Gobert because he stood up for himself against Anderson
Things finally bubbled over in the first meeting between the Wolves and Warriors during the 2023-24 season
Jaden McDaniels and Klay Thompson started to get into a physical altercation
which prompted Green to run over and put him in a lengthy chokehold
hes been waiting to do this forever pic.twitter.com/b5ZmWzgyWw
Green served a five-game suspension for the act
which Gobert said was "clown behavior." Green later said he didn't regret coming to his teammate's defense
Green was suspended indefinitely by the NBA after a separate incident
Gobert said he had "empathy" for Green
"You see somebody that's not well inside and suffering," he said
and you want somebody to be well and be able to do what we do every night and compete and be happy."
out of solidarity with Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns for the attacks they'd received from Green
the stage is set for another clash between Gobert and Green
This will be just their second meeting in the postseason and their first in eight years
A spot in the Western Conference Finals is on the line
picked up four technical fouls and two flagrant foul points over the course of Golden State's seven-game first-round win over the Rockets
Three more techs or two more flagrant points (they come with two levels
Flagrant 1 and Flagrant 2) would lead to a one-game suspension
Even when Green says he'll "be locked in" and keep it calm against Minnesota
Gobert will also have to try to resist the urge to physically retaliate if prodded by Green
It's going to be a fascinating subplot to a series with all kinds of storylines and drama
Charles Huff had warned his talented Marshall defensive end
‘You’re going to go in these meetings and you’re going to have to explain this situation 3,000 times,’” recalled Huff
Green‘s head coach at Marshall for his two seasons at the school
‘They’re going to attempt to get all of the details out of you.’”
the Football Bowl Subdivision’s reigning sack king and one of the NFL draft‘s top defensive prospects
those details had never seemed to matter more
What troubled teams was Green‘s “situation.”
At the NFL scouting combine in February, Green said he’d faced one accusation of sexual assault in high school and another from an “anonymous report” at the University of Virginia
He said the Cavaliers suspended him in 2022
before he transferred to Marshall University ahead of the 2023 season
denied the allegations at the combine and said he had “done nothing wrong.”
“We understand the severity of what these allegations were, of course,” said DeCosta, who told reporters that he met with Green in his office for 90 minutes during a predraft visit. “But doing our due diligence, we are comfortable with Mike. I think the best is yet to come with him, and I’m glad we got him.”
As the Ravens’ rookie class converges on Owings Mills for the start of rookie minicamp on Saturday, their most polarizing draft pick has yet to speak. Green was not made available to reporters after his selection. His only public comments since the draft came in a message on X: “#RavensFlock Watch what I do for y’all.”
University of Virginia representatives did not respond to a request for information on Green‘s time at the school
The Charlottesville Police Department declined to release a police report from the incident that led to Green‘s departure from Virginia
A spokesman said the department was notified of an alleged sexual assault on Aug
Green had agreed to sign a zero-tolerance policy before arriving at Virginia based on allegations made against him when he attended high school in Williamsburg
The coach did not detail the accusations against Green
In interviews with three coaches who’ve worked closely with Green
portrait of the 21-year-old edge rusher has emerged
The coaches acknowledged the seriousness of his sexual assault allegations and his need to mature in college
They said Green has reckoned with his past and developed a more professional approach to football
And they understood why he might‘ve fallen in the draft
There’s no question,” Marshall defensive line coach Ralph Street said
he’s top one when it comes to who he is as a person
I spent seven years on a military base [coaching at the U.S
And I’m not even talking about the football aspect.”
said Marshall‘s staff “did our research” before Green enrolled
Huff said he spoke with Virginia head coach Tony Elliott
and other Cavaliers staff members who vouched for Green
A spokesman for the team did not respond this week to a request for an interview with Elliott or a member of his staff who’d coached Green
“They were all very complimentary of him: ‘Hey
He is a good kid,’” Huff recalled Virginia’s coaches telling him
Marshall officials were also “a lot more comfortable” with Green‘s transfer
because he’d never been charged with a crime
this is exactly what happened,’” Huff said
An earlier accusation had followed Green from high school
who’s known Green since he was in the sixth grade
said a sexual assault allegation against Green late in his senior year led him to sign the zero-tolerance policy with Virginia
Linn called the accusation “such a minuscule thing.”
“It‘s not anything that as a head football coach — and I try to deal with everything — anything I even had to deal with,” he said
Linn added: “If you want a guy who will vouch for Mike Green
He’s just a great kid who got caught in some bad circumstances
and the second one was the worst of circumstances
because he had to sign that poor thing to go to UVA.”
who left Marshall in December to take the head coaching job at Southern Miss
said he had no issues with Green‘s conduct at the Huntington
He impressed Thundering Herd coaches with his motor in practice — one Ravens scout who attended a workout last fall was surprised to see him sprinting on and off the field all practice long — and his leadership in team meetings
Huff called Green a willing mentor to teammates who “got into issues,” even if they were never as serious as sexual assault allegations
Huff said Green learned to keep a smaller circle at Marshall
honing Green‘s pass rush plan and picking up on opponents’ tendencies while they bopped along to music from G Herbo
Green entered every game last season with a move for “every down and distance,” according to Street
who called Green a “phenomenal talent” and an “accelerated learner.” Street praised Green‘s processing as a pass rusher
his ability to pick up on cues at or after the snap and adjust his pass rush approach on the fly
Green racked up three of his FBS-high 17 sacks in games against Ohio State and Virginia Tech
but Street‘s favorite takedown was a late-game strip sack in a win over Sun Belt Conference power Coastal Carolina
“Because we’d never beaten Coastal Carolina,” Street explained
Green and Marshall won their first conference title since 2014 and first overall since moving to the Sun Belt
Their player-coach bond extended off the field
“I don’t bring nobody around my family if I don’t trust them
Street‘s young son wondered why Green couldn’t hang out as often as he once had
Street told him he was getting ready for the NFL
“They just went crazy for about five seconds,” he recalled
Street called Green “a beautiful person” who attended his daughter’s gymnastics practices
played with his son and led Bible study groups on campus
Green‘s former coaches were happy to see him land in Baltimore
one of the NFL‘s most stable and consistent franchises
estimated that he spoke with 12 to 15 teams during the predraft process
who heard from “everybody” before the draft
said there was no indication that the Ravens would take him
Huff remembered the team reaching out for information
but said the Ravens were more “dialed in with him personally,” pointing to Green‘s visit to Owings Mills
I’m sure they did their work behind the scenes,” Huff said
“But they were really dialed in with him and getting to know him
when you have that type of issue that‘s out there
some teams didn’t even take the chance to try to get to know him
Huff said he expected a “backlash” against Green during the draft and perhaps even after it
While some teams might be willing to overlook one sexual assault allegation
“I think that‘s just where we are in society,” Huff said
“He had a major situation that came up twice
So that‘s going to be something that a lot of people and organizations are going to be very cautious of.”
Linn said most 17- and 18-year-olds who leave for college are still “immature kids.” At Virginia
Green underwent a “slow progression of maturity.” At Marshall
Green “changed whatever he needed to change,” Linn said
“We’re blessed that he was in this situation
that he still earned the right to be drafted,” Street said
“And we’re also blessed that now the world will get to know him for who he really is
and not one what somebody else [was] whispering about
They will get to actually know this young man for who he is
“But if you don’t know him — and I don’t know why we have
but people still will prosecute you off word of mouth or social media
the world will get to know ‘Big Mike’ for who he is.”

Green was drafted to help rebuild a franchise that had lost a future first-ballot Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame player
Green’s first three seasons ended without a playoff appearance, and this one finished after Sunday’s Game 7 loss in the first round
this one had a special feel after Houston won 52 regular-season games to capture the Southwest Division title and secure the No
After leading his team in scoring at 21 points per game
Green looked as if he was ready to show the rest of the basketball world that he had arrived
But the Warriors put a stop to that by devising a defensive scheme designed to get the ball out of his hands while challenging others to beat them
“We made it a focal point to try to take him out of this series,” Warriors forward Draymond Green said
“We know what they are capable of when he is scoring
we really wanted to take him out of the series.”
The Warriors sent multiple defenders and consistently had help in the lane when Green wanted to use his quick and powerful first step to beat defenders off the dribble
where he shot better than 50% from the field
Green combined to make just 16 shots over the final five games of the series
finishing with a meager 37.2% shooting clip and 29.5% from 3-point range
s---,” said Green about his first playoff performance
The blame for Houston’s demise against the Warriors does not all fall on Green
There were opportunities to win games that they let slip away by consistently missing shots near the rim and free-throw attempts
Despite being a big man and facing more single coverage
Sengun’s true-shooting percentage (49.1%) in the series was barely better than that of Green (48.2%)
But when you are regarded as one of the faces of the franchise
Those can make the spotlight shine just a little brighter
he will need to use that putrid feeling he had after Game 7 to fuel him throughout the offseason
“I know what I need to do,” Green said of attacking his 2025 offseason
“Get in the gym and working and preparing for next season.”
