and there was hope in the air for warmer weather to come My friend Francie and I don’t see each other nearly enough and we had a dinner on the books that was rescheduled a few times She’s just like me in that while we love to eat and there’s not much we won’t try we’re really in it for the overall experience and good conversation We also appreciate an early dinner so we can be home and in bed at a reasonable hour because we wanted to take advantage of the nice day so I walked around the little downtown before heading in for the last 15 minutes of happy hour (which is from 2-5 p.m The bar was packed with people taking advantage of deals like $8 glasses of wine Fun fact: The Eleanor Room has perhaps the biggest collection of tequila options in the area I had a glass of their Sauvignon Blanc and two $3 oysters on the half-shell as a little pre-dinner snack While technically the restaurant is in a strip mall it sits in a corner spot with ample room for a good patio in summertime with dining room tables towards the back on either side The staff is incredibly welcoming and excited to have you in their space Eleanor Roosevelt visited Greendale in 1936 praising the community design as “absolutely wonderful.” The neighborhood feels strongly connected to her and its founding We had a cozy corner table in the back where we were met by our waitress Bree and I take note of the headlines about people being rude to the wait staff around town I always make a point to be nice and tip well and the pastry chef to send us a good taste of the menu we had a petite amuse bouche made of chickpeas slathered in Middle Eastern spices they sent us two tequila cocktails to give us an idea of the breadth of their selection and the vast capabilities of the bartenders Both were deliciously smokey and packed a punch Our first course of small plates included Roasted Rainbow Carrots (sumac labneh I’d have to say the carrots stood out to me the most because I’m a sucker for some labneh But I know people in this town love a good Brussels sprout dish Next was a series of heartier selection of dishes: BBQ Pork Ribs (polenta cakes Gee’s Fried Half Chicken (confit and fried half chicken and that night’s special Moqueca Stew (a Brazilian fish stew made with cod These were incredible and all very different from one another The pork ribs literally fell off the bone as you picked them up The fried half chicken was unlike any I’ve had before The Brazilian stew was light and flavorful but the Brazilian cheese bread really stole the show but I wish I could have eaten more just to really soak up all the flavors Francie and I admittedly aren’t dessert people but the Raspberry Posset with a chocolate cake bottom (served in a thrifted mushroom coffee mug) really rounded out all the savory we had just consumed So many small details made this big meal such a success This is why I love going into new places blindly and trusting the staff to lead me in the right direction Whenever you make your way to The Eleanor Room come hungry and ready to be blown out of the water Get the latest news from Shepherd Express delivered directly to your inbox WORCESTER ― The Greendale Mall once stood as a bustling hub for retail activity with thousands of shoppers flooding the area on Neponset Street every day to shop at Lechmere but there is once again plenty of retail taking place at 7 Neponset St. Amazon opened its new delivery station Oct in a custom-built facility that stands at the same site as the old mall Instead of dozens of shops with neon signs dotting the landscape and the smells drifting in from the food court In their place are approximately 125 Amazon employees (whom the company calls Amazon associates) working the floor of the 121,000-square-foot facility helping ordered items from the online retailer reach their final destination Items destined for the Worcester area reach the new facility where they are loaded onto delivery trucks "This facility is taking packages that have come in from a fulfillment center and this is their last stop before they get distributed out to customers," Mike Murphy The new delivery station in Worcester replaces a facility on Goddard Memorial Drive which the company had been using for delivery services in the Worcester area The previous facility was actually larger than the new building but Head of Economic Development for Amazon New England Jonathan Greeley said the new facility is far more efficient and the location allows for faster deliveries and less impact on Worcester traffic More: While its Worcester warehouse sits idle, Amazon has been paying property taxes. Here's how much. "This building is purpose-built; the Goddard building was a leased building and we kind of reached capacity and it was an older building," Greeley said "We have made the switch to a built-to-suit building that was designed for us It is kind of the best-in-class delivery service for Amazon We can disperse our delivery vans really quickly and minimize the local traffic impact." coded by Amazon as DTB4 (which can be found on any Amazon package shipped from the facility) serves a wide area that stretches across Worcester County and beyond The delivery station even has its own logo — a polar bear inside a cardboard box — something that was chosen by employees "We had a poll and between Polar Beverages, Polar Park and the giant polar bear that is an icon of Worcester our employees chose that as what best represents us here in the Woo," Katie Torkles GREENDALE — You don't need to book a ticket and fly across the world to taste and see the food and culture of the Middle East The Greendale School District hosted a celebration for Arab American Heritage Month Thursday night The festivities took place at Highland View Elementary About 50 people showed up to the free event Poster boards were set up to teach attendees about the countries of the Middle East This is part of the district's Community Connection series The goal is to celebrate different cultures and learn about their unique customs the Greendale School District has hosted events for Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month Watch the interviews below to see what the event was like.. Hornsby, who’s currently on a nationwide tour has a good sense of humor when it comes to parody approval “I’m happy to hear people still enjoy it,” he said in a recent conversation Did you email him a critique about his piano-playing in this episode? No, I have not. It was solid and serviceable. It was well-played. View this post on Instagram A post shared by George Porter Jr. (@georgeporterjr) if you gave this school song a letter grade I would give it a high grade for being unique There’s nothing else in the semi-vast library of “The Way It Is” cover versions Community is a type of show that has appreciated in influence over the years — I’m not someone who’s trying to keep up with the current Zeitgeist I’m more interested in all of that now than when that Community episode came out I wasn’t aware of any reaction at the time Do people enjoy bringing this parody up with you?Actually Really?I haven’t received much feedback about it I’ve never been stopped at an airport or grilled about the Community version of “The Way It Is” until right now by prolific hip-hop artists in their songs What is it about its structure that makes it ripe for sampling whether it’s Tupac or a Chevy Chase character Is there a unifying factor here? That’s tough It’s sort of like a Monday-morning quarterback explicating the reasons why something connects so many times to so many different artists with stylistic stripes I always thought “The Way It Is” was like a novelty record in the best sense It sounded like nothing else on the radio at the time “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits is a kindred-spirit song in the way Mark Knopfler was soloing through the song on top-40 radio and I was also soloing through “The Way It Is.” There’s not one but two improvised piano solos and maybe in the tenth or 15th listen people started to notice the lyrical content That’s my reluctant explanation after the fact Have you ever had to threaten a lawsuit against someone who sampled your work without permission? Not with “The Way It Is.” I had to take action against a country aggregation that very much ripped off “Mandolin Rain” in their song That was a rare moment when I had to do something like that “You can’t use this.” It’s out there in the world They can take the piss out of it like Chevy did But lawsuits have not abounded in “The Way It Is” world Password must be at least 8 characters and contain: you’ll receive occasional updates and offers from New York Ind.) - It was a great second quarter at Greendale Middle School.  GMS released a list of A/B Honor Roll students for the second quarter of the 2024-25 school year.  A total of 190 students grades 6th through 8th earned Honor Roll See a full list of Honor Roll students at GMS A/B Honor Roll Second Quarter
