The Bruster’s location is just off of the Egg Harbor Road intersection directly across from the Greentree Road Starbucks It’s a nicely designed building and property which almost feels tucked away within the woods Once you turn in off of Greentree Rd you feel like you are instantly in Bruster’s Ice Cream Land The Bruster’s building sits in the middle of the parking lot which offers plenty of parking around the perimeter You can order at the walk-up window at the front of the building or choose to just stay in your car and use the drive-thru which wraps around the back There are some new things with the reopening of Bruister’s includes all new digital screen menus for both the building and the drive-thru lane which offers the new owners the easiest method of updating the menus with new products as well as highlighting other special promotions or flavors One thing that is different from the reopening is that the Nathan’s Hot Dog Restaurant aspect is no longer part of the experience… Tim and Kristen wanted to focus on the ice cream aspect of the business.  This did require them to change up the signage and the front wraparound awning Standing at the window placing my order I couldn’t help but be happily overwhelmed by the sweet delicious scent of the vanilla waffle cones wafting through the window… They make them fresh all day at Bruster’s and it smells so good I don’t know how anyone could order anything else but one of the waffle cones I was looking for something completely different and unique and Kristen suggested the cotton candy ice cream which also features pop rock candies! I’m not a huge fan of overly sweet ice creams but with the Bruster’s recipe I got the flavor of cotton candy but it was not overpowering or too sweet It’s a full family affair at Bruster’s where her older kids are also helping out with the ice cream stand and they’re probably now the most popular kids in the Washington Township school district Their website page shows hours as being 11am to 10pm every day and you can even order ahead online Bruster’s Real Ice Cream Sewell – Summer 2024305 Greentree RoadSewell Categories News Demolition Starts at Woodbury’s Former Inspira Hospital AC Expressway All-Electronic Tolls Moved To 4th Quarter 2025 North West District EditorPublished: Invalid Date MASON GREENWOOD is pining for a return to England —  putting a string of Prem clubs on red alert The forward, 23, left Manchester United for £26.6million last summer and signed a five-year deal with Marseille in the south of France He has scored 19 goals in 33 appearances for the Ligue 1 side But he has faced repeated criticism from manager Roberto De Zerbi and was dropped in March for a perceived lack of work-rate Greenwood — who had charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour dropped in February 2023 — is yearning for a return to the UK with partner Harriet Robson and their two young daughters He signed for Marseille following a successful spell in Spain with Getafe BED HUNTER How Man Utd & Spurs fans can avoid paying £1,000 a night on hotel for Euro finalAnd a source revealed:  “When Mason first left United he loved Spain. “He and Harriet moved to Madrid and rebuilt their lives. “He loved the fact he could just play football and his life off the pitch was not the subject of such intense focus. “He was really happy to sign for Marseille and loved living in France. “But he’s been abroad for nearly two years and the novelty has worn off “Mason’s family visit but he is very introverted and misses his extended family and the friends he has from home “A move back to the North West could suit him as he feels the vitriol he previously faced has died down a bit and people may have moved on.” Former Brighton boss De Zerbi dropped Greenwood and criticised his work-rate Marseille’s Ultras have also unfurled a banner in the stands during games, urging him to  “Get a move on” Our journalists strive for accuracy but on occasion we make mistakes. The offseason work Greentree put in was reinforced by time spent at Kings training camp, where one of the players he focused on was forward Quinton Byfield (6-5 "That's someone I tried to keep a close eye on and implement some things he does into my game," Greentree said which is tougher for bigger players to be able to do that and he can do that really well That comes from the gym and just stretching and that kind of thing He takes it very serious and that's something I do too." Also helping Greentree is Windsor's success this season coach Jerrod Smith was fired after 21 games and Windsor finished 19th in the 20-team league Coach Ryan Walters was hired in July and the turnaround has seen Windsor (12-3-1) emerge as one of the top teams in the league "[Walters] has helped me a lot," Greentree said We're going to continue that relationship and getting better." Dealing with the pressure that comes with being part of a winning team is something Murray is excited to see Greentree handle as well "Now every night they have to be prepared," he said they're going to bring their best every night the first few months every team is going to bring their best So I have to be prepared and make sure our team is ready to kind of keep moving this ship along." Greentree understands there are some other details to his game beyond his skating like adding strength and fine-tuning some of the details in his defensive play But he knows that if he stays on his current track there's a good chance he'll be able to meet one of his other goals as soon as next season "I think it's something that's very possible "You never know what happens but it's something that's gotten me really excited and gotten a little me more motivated It was such a cool experience [at training camp] and to be able to experience that every single day and every single game would be awesome It's something I'm really excited to see if I can do it." overall this past summer the consensus report was that the Kings got a big forward that plays with elite skill Now 117 days removed from the 2024 NHL Draft Greentree has lived up to the early expectations by playing his style of game and doing so effectively Greentree seemingly fits the mold that organization is searching for At least that’s what Head Coach of the Ontario Reign Marco Sturm believes who spent roughly a week around Greentree during the Rookie Faceoff Showcase complimented Greentree’s style of play saying “this kid [Greentree] plays the right way Greentree provided glimpses of elite talent during the Rookie Faceoff tournament showing off his combination of playmaking skills dangerous shots and ability to disrupt play in all three zones The question and topic moving forward is can he do that against the best players in world on a nightly basis A topic of conversation revolving around Greentree has been how he handled the sped-up pace of play Compared to playing in the OHL where Greentree has more say on how the game unfolds Greentree remained in El Segundo with a handful of other Kings prospects from recent drafts and was a full participant in the Kings training camp which included appearing in the first preseason game of the 2024-25 schedule Exposed to and on the ice with the top players in the Kings organization Greentree continued to be present reasons for excitement and promise when tested in an NHL-esque environment Shortly after Greentree’s first exposure to NHL preseason hockey the Kings assigned the 18-year-old back to the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL The now two-year captain of the storied Windsor franchise is 10 games into the new season and leads the OHL in both points and assists (7-18-25) despite missing the Spitfires first game of the season because he was busy at Kings training camp Greentree holds a six-helper lead over second place in assists After the Kings drafted Greentree in the final days of June the Oshawa native was able to spend a large chunk of the next three months in El Segundo under the organization’s roof Greentree was a participant in the post-draft summer development camp the rookie tournament showcase and the beginning of training camp “I think something that I noticed and really caught my attention was how everyone plays the right way,” he said you realize how everyone knows their role and does their thing and their job that was huge to see because it encourages me to be myself and play my game and no one else’s Seeing that and getting to play with some big names was really cool and helped me learn a lot It kind of helped me know what I need to do for this year in Windsor.” Taking his experiences and lessons from his time in LA Greentree currently has the Spitfires out to OHL’s best record with an 9-1-1 start former professional hockey player of 12 years and an OHL head coach of seven seasons is in his first season as the bench boss of the Spitfires who has coached in the OHL dating back to 2002 was all compliments on Greentree in their early partnership when talking about his first impressions on the big forward “Obviously [Greentree] had 90 points last year and 23 [points] as an underage player the year before – the offensive ability is there,” he said “We wanted to work on the little details once we got to coaching him The little details of being very reliable in all aspects and situations of the game and he wants to be that guy too He wants to be held accountable defensively and he wants to get better to getting above the puck making sure that we’re not giving up odd man rushes so him doing that and being our best player He’s done an unbelievable job of leading this young team.” To best depict the huge step forward and impact that Greentree has had on his team early this season all you have to do is look at last year’s standing versus where they are now Even with a 90-point season at the age of 17 last year the Spitfires had the second-worst record in the OHL Greentree has been able to unlock not only another level to his game but the team had gone through some difficult times,” Walters explained “I felt that getting the team on board with our breakouts our tracking among other things would be the keys to having a successful season He’s our captain and he’s 100% bought into what we’re trying to do here He’s been leading by example every day.” Greentree’s working relationship with Walters has them both on the same page seemingly getting the most out of each other he’s done a lot for us as a team and for me individually,” Greentree said he really grinds me on my little details and that’s something that I’ve always needing to get better at To have someone who is really hard on me about the little details is really good and if I’m playing the right game in the defensive zone Los Angeles Kings pick Liam Greentree has been on absolute heater and now he's the OHL player of the week with 11 points in three games for Windsor — Ryan Kennedy (@THNRyanKennedy) October 21, 2024 With Walters’ coaching career going back 20+ years in the OHL he’s had the fortune of working with some outstanding young Canadian players that have gone on to have great NHL careers Walters was an assistant coach for the Sarnia Sting from 2002-2010 a time in which a player by the name of Steven Stamkos came through that organization for two seasons (2006-07 Stamkos was of course the first overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft and was unstoppable with the Sting notching 197 points (100-97-197) in 122 games who had first had experience with Stamkos witnessed the growth and dedication to the game that the future Hall of Famer had as sees a handful of similarities between Stamkos and Greentree “I think they’re different players for sure their work ethic is extremely high and either one of them won’t stop at anything to try to get to the next level,” Walters explained “Liam still at 18 being named captain is special for a storied franchise like Windsor Being named captain at 17 years old just speaks volumes of him and Stamkos was that same type of player Stamkos scored a lot more up off of his one timer and Liam’s moving all around on our power play whether it be a strong side or trying to work with him on his one timer as well right now Stamkos had that one spot perfected on the power play and Liam’s working really working hard at that being productive in spot as well.” Greentree has been the centerpiece of the Spitfires turnaround this season As the leader of the Spitfires on and off the ice Greentree has been challenged by Walters to have more than just a good season but to also leave a legacy in Windsor whenever his time at the Spitfires may conclude “I’ve talked to talk to Liam about him leaving a legacy here in Windsor and he’s done everything and more to do that on the on the ice so far,” Walters said he’s a wonderful kid and he works extremely hard in the gym he’s in our office every day asking for clips on how to get better he’s a student of the game and the team follows him He scores in all aspects of the game; off the rush We trust him in all aspects and he’s obviously producing in every way.” When asked about leaving a legacy in Windsor Greentree maturely responded with putting the team first “If I could help get this team another Memorial Cup championship “That’s kind of the legacy I want to leave is that even though we went through a tough year last year as long as you stick with it and do the right things That’s how I want to be known whenever I do leave Windsor.” six multi-point performances and a point in all 10 games this season Greentree is on pace for over 150 points this season the last time an OHL player reached even 120 points in a season was in 2019-20 when Marco Rossi totaled exactly 120 points and only six players have notched 120+ points in the past 10 years (Alex DeBrincat 2016-17 Greentree did touch on his individual goals but was quick to focus on the larger picture beyond just himself 50 goals would be nice and obviously to get over 100 points but the biggest goal for me is trying to lead this team to a championship,” the captain said “I think we have the team to go far and we have a great coaching staff I’m super excited to see what the rest of the year has to offer I would really love to go win the league and then hopefully the Memorial Cup so you never know what’s going to happen it’s just about getting this team a championship.” the Los Angeles Kings have officially reassigned standout prospect Liam Greentree to their AHL affiliate The 18-year-old winger lit up the OHL this year finishing third in league scoring with 49 goals and 119 points in just 64 games His offensive flair didn’t slow down in the postseason either where he notched 14 goals and 24 points across 11 playoff games for the Windsor Spitfires before their seven-game series loss to the Kitchener Rangers at Lincoln Center premiered Ari Aster’s extended version of “Midsommar” this past Saturday There’s clearly some major reshuffling going on when it comes to Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride,” and I’ll get to the other stuff in a minute it looks like Johnny Greenwood (“There Will Be Blood”) will no longer be composing the score for Gyllenhaal’s semi-musical but one who is sadly coming off last year’s “Joker: Folie à Deux.” No reason seems to have been given for Greenwood’s departure, but it’s just the latest development in what’s been a tumultuous last few months for Gyllenhaal’s film. This film can’t catch a break, but don’t tell that to Warner co-CEO Pam Abdy, who recently blamed the bad buzz on sexism I recently flagged that “The Bride!” wasn’t exactly killing it in test screenings and Puck confirmed my reporting soon after while also scratching their heads over how exactly Gyllenhaal whose directorial résumé includes precisely one movie managed to convince Warners to bankroll her $100 million gothic musical passion project is reportedly struggling to strike the right balance Abdy was apparently tasked to try to whip the movie into shape and word is she’s having a hard time of it “The Lost Daughter,” was a critical darling and nabbed her a Venice screenplay award she was expected to bring “The Bride!” to Venice this fall but then Warners delayed its October release to a more suspicious March 2026 unveiling and Jake Gyllenhaal—and it’s loosely riffing on Bride of Frankenstein (1935) Advertise Donate Privacy Policy COVID-19 Updates Vaccine and Booster Information View All Media Advisories View All Speeches & Testimony Sign up for a newsletter or update your subscription preferences. The LA Kings signed forward Liam Greentree to a three-year entry-level contract worth an average annual value (AAV) of $975,000 through the 2026-27 season.  Selected by the Kings 26th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft, Greentree served as the Captain for the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Windsor Spitfires this past season, recording career highs in goals (36), assists (54), and points (90). Leading his team in all categories, Greentree finished the 2023-24 campaign among the top 20 players in the OHL in goals, assists, points, and points-per-game (1.41), earning OHL Third All-Star Team honors at the conclusion of the season. The 6-2, 215-pound forward spent the last two seasons with Windsor, appearing in 125 OHL games and accumulating 135 points (61-74=135). In the 2022-23 campaign, Greentree’s 25 tallies were the most amongst OHL rookies and earned him a selection to the OHL First All-Rookie Team. A native of Oshawa, ON, Greentree represented Canada at the 2024 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Under-18 World Junior Championship this past spring. Greentree’s four points (2-2=4) in seven games helped Canada capture their fifth gold medal in tournament history. Get to know our Round 1 Pick Liam Greentree have the same goal as they try to move forward in the Calder Cup Playoffs they could be adding the Kings top prospect While the Los Angeles Kings are focused on the Edmonton Oilers and advancing in the NHL Playoffs the LA Kings PR account tweeted that Greentree was being called up to the Ontario Reign He had spent the previous season with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL but their season recently ended in the playoffs Greentree had an excellent run for the Spitfires, and in 11 playoff games, he had 14 goals and 10 assists, including a game where he had five goals This was after he finished third in the OHL in points with 49 goals and 70 assists According to Scott Coffman of Mayor's Manor Liam Greentree would still need to pass a physical and likely wouldn't join the team until the next round The Ontario Reign are currently playing the San Jose Barracudas in a Best of 3 series The Barracudas took Game 1 by a final score of 2-0 then the pivotal Game 3 would be Monday night Coffman also has an important note for next season that applies to Liam Greentree but also Carter George who also played in the OHL and was called up to the AHL at the end of his season in that neither player will start next season in the AHL it will either be NHL or OHL based on the league rules and they can only move up to the AHL at the end of the OHL season © 2025 Minute Media - All Rights Reserved The content on this site is for entertainment and educational purposes only Betting and gambling content is intended for individuals 21+ and is based on individual commentators' opinions and not that of Minute Media or its affiliates and related brands All picks and predictions are suggestions only and not a guarantee of success or profit If you or someone you know has a gambling problem crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1-800-GAMBLER Greentree had an excellent run for the Spitfires, and in 11 playoff games, he had 14 goals and 10 assists, including a game where he had five goals Coffman also has an important note for next season that applies to Liam Greentree but also Carter George, who also played in the OHL and was called up to the AHL at the end of his season, in that neither player will start next season in the AHL. For both players, it will either be NHL or OHL based on the league rules and they can only move up to the AHL at the end of the OHL season. clearly showed a game that wasn't necessarily competitive on the scoreboard but had plenty of headlines come out of that game The Los Angeles Kings secured home ice for the first round of the 2024 NHL Playoffs and did so against the team they will face in the first round, the Edmonton Oilers the Kings announced the player who would be nominated for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy on Tuesday a former first round pick has been dominating in the playoffs of the OHL These are some of the top headlines from the past few days for the Los Angeles Kings Each NHL team nominated a player to be considered for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy which honors the player "who best demonstrates exemplary leadership qualities has made a significant humanitarian impact on his community" For the Los Angeles Kings, that player is Kevin Fiala who has been nominated for the second consecutive season the team wrote the following about Fiala's contributions to children's causes: There is no question that Kevin Fiala has made a lot of positive contributions off the ice and is well deserving of the nomination For the Los Angeles Kings, that player is Kevin Fiala who has been nominated for the second consecutive season The Los Angeles Kings drafted Liam Greentree in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft and the team has to feel great about having him part of the organization with what he has done over the past year Greentree finished with 49 goal and 70 assists in 64 games with a +/- of +55 He has continued that impressive run right into the playoffs and recently had five goals and an assist in a playoff game. It was a record-setting performance for Greentree as he set a new franchise record for the Spitfires with five goals in a playoff game and is the first player in the OHL since 2015 to have five goals in a playoff game There is no doubt that Los Angeles Kings fans should be excited about Liam Greentree's eventually debut and he should be able to immediately make an impact among the forwards the game itself wasn't very competitive on Monday night as the LA Kings had a 3-0 lead in the first period and cruised to a 5-0 victory they might have suffered a major loss if Quinton Byfield is forced to miss any time after a cheap shot by Edmonton Oilers' Darnell Nurse Darnell Nurse receives a five minute major for cross checking Quinton Byfield near the back of the head pic.twitter.com/nUcPdAq1nY The initial hit itself on Byfield wasn't the issue; rather it was what happened after the players went to the ice Nurse decided to hit Byfield in the back of the head across the neck and drive him into the ice It would only receive a five minute major and frankly should have been more, but according to Frank Seravalli the NHL Player Safety will be holding a hearing on Tuesday night in regards to the play it will be worth seeing how long the suspension is for The Oilers only have one game left in the regular season and if the suspension is longer than that then he will miss some of the series with the Kings It also wouldn't be the first time he has been suspended for a hit on a Kings player as he was suspended during the 2022 NHL Playoffs after a cheap shot on Phillip Danault The Kings' center did not sugarcoat his feelings about the game and said "They just have their B-squad in trying to hurt us" "They just have their B-squad in trying to hurt us." 😳Phillip Danault soudned off in the midst of a chippy Kings-Oilers game last night. pic.twitter.com/JkpeRlJv3n there is no question that emotions are going to be high going into this series after an unexpected illness at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville to Steven Schell and Valerie (Eikleberry) Schell Eikleberry at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Rachael married Joshua Greenwood on May 22 and she also worked at Dollar General in Cisne Rachael enjoyed cooking and listening to music Rachael is survived by her husband Joshua Greenwood of Cisne IL; a son Matthew James Ellis (fiancée Audrey  Ellsworth)  of Flora IL.; two step sons Bryce Greenwood of Fairfield IL; her father Steven (Jamie) Schell of Tuscumbia IL; a sister Samantha (Craig) Richardson of Fairfield IL; and a brother Logan Colbert of West Salem IL; her mother in law Barbara Shiers of Xenia IL; her grandparents Judi Schell of Johnsonville Preceding her in death was her infant daughter from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home Memorial Donation in memory of Rachael may be made out to Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home to help with expense’s and will be accepted the day of services Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.meridithfuneralhome.com Condolences are reviewed and published within 24 hours Rachael was a great daughter-in-law u could ask for a better one I will remember the fun times that we spend together at different times like holidays n camping You will be sadly missed fly high until we meet again Rip Rachael Greenwood I knew Rachael from school and was always friendly Condolences to her family and friends that knew her best Everytime I saw her she had a smile on her face Rachael was an extra mother to my daughter for several years You could not have asked for a better person to be a step mother to a child May she know she was loved and rest in peace no words can express how much we are going to miss you It’s truly sad that you had to go and be with all of the other angels that had to fly high and leave to soon But just know we love you and miss you dearly and I will be sure to tell the kiddos just how much you loved them and tell them how cool you really were I’ll even tell them our fun stories of how we did hair and makeup together and I’ll be sure to let your memory flow on to my kids and so on down the line You’ll be missed so much at dollar general Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends You were a great friend you will be missed I will miss the best step mom I ever had and know she is gone I will miss her alot and I will never get to see her again love bryce greenwood racheals step son Rachel was a ray of sunshine every time I saw her She was loved by so many and will be remembered always We are so very sorry for all her family and friends… Love and Prayers for all of you © 2025. Login  Design: Serpentine The Los Angeles Kings have reassigned top prospect Liam Greentree to the AHL after the end of his OHL season Greentree ranked third in OHL scoring this season with a dazzling 49 goals and 119 points in 64 games He also ranked second in playoff scoring with 14 goals and 24 points in 11 games before his Windsor Spitfires were eliminated by the Kitchener Rangers in a seven-game series Greentree will look to carry his tremendous scoring into the pro flight He will join the Ontario Reign ahead of their first games of the Calder Cup Playoff matchup against the San Jose Barracuda this weekend The turnaround might be too quick for Greentree to play his pro debut on Saturday though it’ll be tough to not consider the star scorer in what could be a must-win game on Monday This article first appeared on Pro Hockey Rumors and was syndicated with permission customized to your favorite sports and teams I watch as Vicki Davidson leans over and plants kisses on her mother’s face The gentle touch helps awaken the 102-year-old who is cocooned in linen sheets from the neck down you want some tomato soup?” she asks loudly while speaking the words close to her ear The years have taken a toll on the health of the elderly woman a bright smile appears when she hears her daughter’s voice who is affectionally known by most as Miss Vicki How do I tell Miss Vicki’s story and not show the woman whom she credits as her champion for education the woman who continues to inspire her daily I’m grateful that she has allowed me into their mother-and-daughter space today I am reminded of how I cared for my mother as she battled lung cancer I understand a daughter’s devotion to the one who brought you into this world it was an honor for me to care for my mother The senior apartment complex where Marie Davidson has lived for the last 12 years is three traffic lights and less than two miles from where Miss Vicki has worked for 26 years as program director at Greentree-Teutonia Community Learning Center a public housing complex where she is the connective tissue between kids A physical therapist comes in twice a week to help with mobility and while a caregiver is with her during the day fills that gap in the evening and throughout the night She turns her mother every three hours to ward off bedsores she catnaps in a recliner in the living room Miss Vicki learned the importance of education from her mother who taught in a segregated one-room school in West Blocton  Her parents didn't always have access to education Marie and Andy Davidson left the small town and headed to Milwaukee where her husband had secured a job at A.O a sprawling factory that made auto frames on the city's north side a neighborhood grocery store in the 1800 block of North 12th Street While her mother never returned to the classroom teaching and learning remained in the forefront of the family home that Andy built The couple raised Vicki and her older brother in a house that overflowed with love and books She and her brother would do homework at the kitchen table while their mom cooked it would take some time for the value of education that her mother poured into her throughout her youth to resonate That realization became more evident once she became a single mother a community of more than 700 residents that sits on 14 acres on Milwaukee’s north side She received a federal Section 8 housing voucher which allows tenants to pay 30% of their income for rent “I was a beast about education,” Miss Vicki said Sometimes he didn’t always have what he wanted Miss Vicki understands the challenges of those living at Greentree where 86% of the households are led by single Black mothers She found ways to create a village of supporters you don’t get to make excuses because you have people in your life who love you,” she said now 36 and an electrical engineer for Lockheed Martin in Dallas She put me in the right position to make the right plays she enrolled at Alverno College and graduated in 1995 with a bachelor of arts in business and communication "I see what she does for my grandmother and what she does for others My mom is an example and huge blessing.”     I had an opportunity to spend time with several of the high school youth from the Greentree-Teutonia summer enrichment program away from the community They were invited to a picnic in Pewaukee put on by Miss Vicki's church because of their outstanding performance and attendance in the summer program Within seconds of exiting the center's van found a kickball and ran to the court for a game of two-on-two but this didn't discourage them from a few more games of hoops Miss Vicki shared that she wasn't feeling well I suggested that we find a nearby Walgreens to pick up something to soothe her stomach This was the first time I had really spent time with the youth cameras down and engaged in conversation while watching them just be teenagers funny and appreciative that they had been chosen for this outing There was a moment when they became restless as we sat in the van in the parking lot of a Walgreens store in Pewaukee and they asked if they could go inside the store to buy some drinks and use the restroom I was chosen as the chaperone for the short trip 50 yards away while three of the youth and I waited at the front of the store for one of the teens to return from the restroom I began to notice the other adults in the store who were all white and waiting in line to make their purchases stare at us as we waited with our purchased items in bags The teens never knew they were being watched I noticed that on the news rack at the front entrance was a copy of the Journal Sentinel and on the front page was my photo as the lead image the teens only knew me as the "camera lady," but now I had something to show of my published work They were so excited to see my name in print and started giving me high fives in the store This small act really got the others watching us in a way that was uncomfortable for me It felt like an unwarranted judgment of me and these beautiful Black youth with deep dark rich complexions and natural hair I was grateful that the young people never saw what I saw was on the phone with Ameir's mother sharing with her about Kingdom Prep and asking whether she and Ameir's father would consider the school for him for the fall She went on to explain about the academic programs and the wonderful male mentors at the school while taking Tums Once again I watched how she pushes through her own physical pain at times to care for others I've seen the unconditional love she gives to her mother even when her body is telling her to sit down I've seen her struggle to make it up a flight of stairs when she could take the elevator but she knows this is an opportunity to exercise even as her breathing is labored it is her faith and devotion to family and the children of Greentree that supplies her with the strength to continue moving forward Standing on the well-polished hardwood floor in the middle of Kingdom Prep Lutheran High School’s gymnasium on an evening just two days after the church picnic with Greentree youth Miss Vicki smiles while taking in the sights and sounds of new student registration one of the teens who had joined her at the church picnic He is there to check out the all-boy private Christian school in Wauwatosa The evening is spent cruising from table to table meeting teachers and administrators and becoming familiar with the school’s academic culture Ameir stays close by Miss Vicki's side while she takes the lead at each stop gathering background information that she hopes the shy 6-foot-1-inch incoming sophomore will share with his parents This is not part of her job description: Taking the time to scoop up a child from home to see other schools outside Milwaukee Public Schools Surprising another student at his school with birthday gifts Paying for a student’s bus pass so that he can get to school It all might seem like going above and beyond the call of duty for most That night's meet-and-greet set in motion a connection between Miss Vicki and school administrators that has since blossomed into an advocacy program for teens with ties to her community who attend the school she has created an online and in-person tutoring program for Greentree youth She is that bridge from student to parent,” said Shawn Sprewer I will never forget the words of Miss Vicki as I sat in the computer lab at Greentree-Teutonia editing photos “No one gets to put their hands on you.” It came out of nowhere My first thought was that one of the residents was being abused by another partner in the home Some of the current and former residents at GT have shared with me incidents of domestic abuse in the complex Even with all the wonderful programs and incentives the community offers The woman’s adult child has been beating her I had never witnessed this kind of intimate moment Watching Miss Vicki wrap her arms around the petite woman but it's easy to wrap your arms around a child She showed the same compassion for an adult I'll never forget the shallow sobs I heard from a distance she notices an agitated girl who had been sent to the office ma’am,” the student replies in a soft voice This is Miss Vicki taking on the pain of another in need This is what she does so easily each and every day Always wanting to help children and adults heal The girl tells Miss Vicki she was being "fat bullied" by a group of girls Miss Vicki understands how those who are hurting themselves may weaponize the appearance of others as a defense We as Black women carry our weight very well," she said proudly then added: "We have enough people who do not love Black girls How do we have time to be fighting each other Miss Vicki and her staff are used to being confidantes is more than just classrooms and leasing office for tenants “It's the family outside of your family,” said Martinus Roper M." His family lived in Greentree when he was a child “Sometimes you can't tell your mama everything," he said "Sometimes you can’t tell your daddy everything You need a Miss Vicki so that you can be heard with no judgment.”    The Greentree-Teutonia Community Learning Center has weathered crisis after crisis school districts put more tablets in the hands of students for remote learning Many of the families who used the center never returned When Cardinal Stritch University — which the center had partnered with for 15 years with student mentors from their campus to tutor youth at Greentree's after-school and summer programs — closed its campus in May 2023 Miss Vicki and other staff wish for a gym to offer health and fitness classes say she isn't nearly as tough with the current youth as she was with them "I've learned to let go of that tight rein," Miss Vicki said But I tell them life is going to be stricter on you Everything I'm asking of you is not unreasonable and you're capable She knows the time will come for the next generation to take the lead "My hope and prayer would be that someone younger than me and smarter than me would incorporate the values and insights that we have used." in Greentree and in all the children she has yet to reach Milwaukee Journal Sentinel photographer Angela Peterson spent 15 months at Greentree-Teutonia Apartments a public housing complex on Milwaukee's north side and wrote stories  capturing the heartache and triumph from a community that is often overlooked and misunderstood Editor's note: This story was republished Jan Greentree: The Ties that BindMilwaukee Journal SentinelGreentree-Teutonia Apartments in Milwaukee defy the stereotype of a housing project Amidst the challenges that socially disadvantaged communities face The community is like a quilt woven over time Each panel represents a person and their story MilwaukeeJournal Sentinel photojournalist Angela Peterson spent 15 months capturing moments in time at Greentree a low-income housing complex that sits on 14 acres on Milwaukee's north side The community is home to more than 700 residents She gathered stories of heartache and triumph from a community that is often overlooked and misunderstood This has been updated to make it accessible to all readers the inbound Parkway West has been considered among the most congested traffic bottlenecks in the country and it regularly gets poor marks for safety due to the too-close-to-each-other entrance and exit ramps near the Fort Pitt Tunnel The first project, from just west of the Parkway Center interchange, is designed to eliminate the weaving of traffic trying to get on the highway from Banksville Road to enter the tunnel or wanting to exit to Route 51/Saw Mill Run Boulevard before the tunnel. It will create an inbound lane starting about 1,600 feet from Parkway Center that will exit onto a new ramp to carry traffic to Route 51. Traffic from Banksville to the tunnel will be separated by a median until the merge point. There also will be a new slip ramp from Banksville to Route 51. On the outbound side, a second lane will be added to the Banksville ramp and a fourth lane will be added on the highway to Parkway Center. Work on that project should start in fall 2026 and take three years to complete. Once that is done, work at the Green Tree interchange should be ready to begin. PennDOT will reveal its proposed redesign at an informational meeting at the Green Tree Borough Municipal Center, 10 West Manilla Ave. Anthony Annett, PennDOT’s senior project manager overseeing the Green Tree project, said this work is part of goal to “improve the overall operation and safety of the corridor.” Currently, it is a very tight interchange at Greentree Road complicated by another busy road, Poplar Street, nearby. “It is a little bit of a challenge,” Annett said. “Right now, these ramps are really close together. We think the proposed concept we have will address that.” Annett said this is “a pretty straight-forward” project and the department has settled on the proposed realignment that will be presented Wednesday. Still, he wants to hear concerns the public has or potential complications the agency hasn’t considered. The project is still in design, but the agency expects it will cost about $100 million and be ready for construction in 2029. Annett said a small amount of property might be needed for this project. The Carnegie interchange project is still in early development and will follow the work at Green Tree. Ed covers transportation at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but he's currently on strike. LOS ANGELES -- I checked in on the Kings highly regarded 26th overall selection in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft with Windsor Spitfires Head Coach Greg Walters Greentree has cemented confidence in the Kings high selection of him by being on track to another blazing season in the Ontario Hockey League seemingly with the help of a little gasoline that was his Team Canada World Junior Championships camp omission.1 For Kings fans who may not have had a lot of looks at the 2024 NHL Draft's 26th overall pick what type of game does Liam Greentree bring? “Tree (Liam Greentree) is a promising power forward known for his combination of size Greentree utilizes his physical presence effectively on the ice.” During the 2023-24 season with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) comprising 36 goals and 54 assists over 64 games This performance placed him among the top 20 players in the OHL for goals earning him OHL Third All-Star Team honors  “Tree’s (Greentree’s) offensive prowess is highlighted by his powerful and accurate shot capable of challenging goaltenders from various angles His ability to change the angle of his shot upon release makes him a consistent scoring threat his puck-handling skills and creativity allow him to navigate through defenders and generate scoring opportunities.” “Liam brings a blend of size projecting as a potential power forward who can contribute significantly to the Kings’ offensive depth in the future.” Greentree was named Captain last season in just his 2nd with the club What jumped out about his character to earn him the 'C' Liam Greentree was appointed captain of the Windsor Spitfires before I came in as the Head Coach I have previous experience naming a second-year player a captain Back in Owen Sound we named Colby Barlow captain being in just his second season highlights his standout leadership qualities and maturity beyond his years Coaches like myself and his teammates often cite several factors that set him apart and maintaining a professional approach resonated with his coaches and teammates Greentree has shown the ability to stay calm and make smart decisions in high-pressure situations His poise and confidence in critical moments have earned him trust from coaches and teammates alike Greentree holds himself accountable and sets high standards His humility and focus on continual improvement exemplify the qualities of a leader and a team-oriented attitude made him an ideal candidate for the ‘C.’ The Spitfires clearly saw in Greentree a player who could inspire those around him and embody the values of the organization highly producing 1st round talent and team Captain many people paying attention to junior Hockey were shocked at Liam getting left off Canada's World Junior camp roster Since that decision was announced December 2nd Liam has only had 3 games where he has been left off the scoresheet Did the perceived snub fire him up?   It certainly seems that being left off Canada’s World Junior camp roster served as extra motivation for Liam Greentree His response on the ice has been amazing since the December 2nd announcement The numbers speak for themselves—only three games without a point since that decision and a sustained level of dominance in his play He has 12 goals and 14 assists in his last 13 games where teams like to get the oldest players with the most experience I think he could have been on the team this year but Greentree just turned 19 on January 1st and I can see him making the team this coming December Marquette.edu // O'Brien Fellowship In pick last month at the 2024 NHL Draft A player the Kings are excited to add into the system Greentree was the first step towards restocking the cupboards of a prospect pool that has seen several players either graduate from prospect to NHL player or leave the organization via trade or other means More on the team’s first selection in the first round since 2021 below his options for this and next season are either the NHL or the OHL He is not eligible to play the full season in the AHL with the Ontario Reign All signs would point to another OHL season with Windsor where he is Team Captain and the best offensive player in the organization Greentree posted strong offensive numbers last season on a team that didn’t have many other options and finished at the bottom of the standings there could be even more to come as he enters his draft plus-one season Another strong season with the Spitfires is a good path for Greentree with hopes of either playing some playoff games in the OHL or perhaps joining the Reign at the end of the season on an amateur try out as the icing on the cake Greentree’s deal is eligible for an entry-level slide this and next season he would get his signing bonus but his contract would still have three seasons remaining The same process would take place if he plays in the OHL during the 2025-26 season Greentree’s first year would only kick in if he plays in the NHL at 18 or 19 for 10+ games his contract would simply slide back until his age-20 season when he would be both NHL and AHL eligible From the team’s official release – Selected by the Kings 26th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft Greentree served as the Captain for the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Windsor Spitfires this past season Greentree finished the 2023-24 campaign among the top 20 players in the OHL in goals earning OHL Third All-Star Team honors at the conclusion of the season 215-pound forward spent the last two seasons with Windsor appearing in 125 OHL games and accumulating 135 points (61-74=135) Greentree’s 25 tallies were the most amongst OHL rookies and earned him a selection to the OHL First All-Rookie Team Greentree represented Canada at the 2024 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Under-18 World Junior Championship this past spring Greentree’s four points (2-2=4) in seven games helped Canada capture their fifth gold medal in tournament history Of course, there is feeling physically safe, where your body is not in danger of physical harm. But at Greentree-Teutonia Apartments, the subject of a recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel series Legally, the Greentree and Teutonia Apartments are separate entities. Located alongside each other, the two function as one community, "Greentree." Together they house about 700 residents in 328 units. Rent is calculated based on income, and the units are managed by the Housing Ministries of American Baptists in Wisconsin Reporter and photographer Angela Peterson led the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel series by spending 15 months visiting the community at Greentree, through the O'Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University But it did not take long to get a sense of what makes the place special "That's what I took away within two days of being there." Peterson notes that not only do the kids at Greentree feel physically safe They feel safe to be in a space where they can learn They feel safe to be where they could be encouraged," she says At the center of that safe feeling is Vicki Davidson Vicki Davidson is the program director at Greentree-Teutonia Community Learning Center and lived in the apartments for almost half that time the center offers equipment and employment services for the Greentree community to find stable income it offers everything from scholastic support to field trips to African dance classes and back The result is a center where children feel safe to ask for help "When children remember something with joy that's where the joy comes in," Davidson says but those are the moments that we live for." Davidson will be the first to tell you that progress can be slow unable to meet the expectations set by the learning center or apartment complexes public housing communities like the Greentree and Teutonia Apartments and the Greentree Community Learning Center have found a way to get countless Milwaukeeans back on their feet Davidson gets her share of Greentree alumni coming back to give her life updates and to thank her for giving them a space to become themselves and a lot of people have come through our doors But you know what the most rewarding thing is "For you to see from whence they've come and where they are now The full Milwaukee Journal Sentinel series contains more stories, journal entries, photos and videos. Photojournalist Angela Peterson's work features six black-and-white prints onto which she hand-painted color, outlining one man’s glasses in a vibrant red and rouging the cheeks of faces she brought to life. Peterson, part of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel staff, spent 15 months capturing images of the residents of Milwaukee's Greentree-Teutonia Apartments through the O'Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism, part of Marquette University's Diederich College of Communication. The color work is a process that requires Peterson to apply photographic paints with toothpicks and cotton swabs. Her aim: To highlight details in the portraits she's captured. In this medium, Peterson brings a different sort of creativity than in typical news photography. It’s a technique she returned to for this project after about a 10-year hiatus. Each image makes her consider how the color of a boy’s shirt, for instance, will look against the rust red, bright white and pink of those worn by those surrounding him. These images are gateways to the stories and lives of people at Greentree. Defenceman Grady Spicer, who spent the entire season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with Brockville, played his second playoff game along with forward Max Brocklehurst, who spent the majority of his season with the LaSalle Vipers. “It’s just awesome to watch these guys play,” Spitfires’ head coach Greg Walters said. But while the young faces have helped fill some void, the Rangers have had no answer for Windsor’s top unit of Greentree, Ilya Protas and Noah Morneau, which has produced  “I think this might be the best line I’ve ever played on,” Greentree said. “Protas has the hockey  IQ of a genius and Noah Morneau has stepped it up and we’ve leaned on him.” With injuries piling up, Walters had planned to move Morneau to a different line for Game 3, but in the end opted to keep the trio together. “I was going to,” Walters admits. “Thank God I didn’t.”  “That play there speaks volumes for our team,” Walters said. And while the big line has indeed been big, the same can be said of goalie Joey Costanzo, who made 28 saves on Monday, including a dozen in the third period when Windsor was outshot 13-6 and 31-25 overall. “I think Joey Costanzo has been our best player in the playoffs,” Greentree said. Costanzo now has a playoff-leading 1.83 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. “Joey was real good to start the game,” Walters said. “Kitchener had a good push at the start and and he made two big saves.” Greentree, on a two-man power play, and then with another goal had Windsor up 2-0 after 20 minutes. Twice Kitchener was able to make it a one-goal game, but Windsor responded each time. Luke Ellinas made it a 2-1 game, but Greentree responded 93 seconds later. After Cameron Mercer made it 3-2 game, Protas responded to restore Windsor’s two-goal lead after 40 minutes. Greentree added his second power-play goal in the third period, which was Windsor’s sixth in three games. Tanner Lam got the Rangers back to within two goals before Greentree scored into an empty net. First period: 1. Windsor, Greentree 10 (Cristoforo, Abraham) 13:37, 2.
