The four-year-long project is a long-awaited solution to the increased demand for more facilities to accommodate the rising engineering enrollment at UC Berkeley
Engineering Dean Tsu-Jae King Liu’s statement at the opening stressed the college’s commitment to transforming the culture of the engineering field to be more welcoming and inclusive
and that she hopes the new facility will serve as a symbol for that change
The light glass and steel facility will include flexible spaces for classrooms

When the Philadelphia 76es acquired Quentin Grimes from the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline back in February
it's hard to believe they expected him to produce the way that he did
and 4.5 assists while shooting 46.9% from the floor and 37.3% from deep
He started 25 games and was a key part of this group on a nightly basis in terms of helping the scoreboard move and giving the Sixers some type of offensive production in a time where they didn't have many pieces to turn to
one has to wonder about free agency this summer as he is a restricted free agent
The Sixers don't have much money to use after the 2024 offseason when they locked in a lot of core players
Philadelphia has the non-taxpayers midlevel exception and the biannual exception at its disposal as it looks to re-sign Grimes as well as Guerschon Yabusele
So what is the best case scenario for Grimes and the Sixers? As Bleacher Report puts it:
The best-case scenario for Philadelphia may be that Grimes takes a deal starting near the $14.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception
although he may feel that's too low of an offer
One has to wonder if there is a team out there--like the Brooklyn Nets
for example--who is willing to offer Grimes a deal thinking the Sixers won't go over their budget too much for him
This will be a tricky situation for President of Daryl Morey and Co
They are already pushing up against the luxury tax which then brings the dreaded aprons into play
it feels as if the Sixers are convinced that Grimes is a good piece to fit around Joel Embiid
but one has to believe they will be able to find a way to make it happen
Ledecky’s world record in the 800 free proves that age is seemingly just a number for her
but it also makes the Rio 2016 swim she beat out more memorable
having tight battles in both the 200 and 400 IM but ultimately touching 2nd in both
Ledecky’s world record in the 800 free came 4,295 days after she set her first all-time mark at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona
Denis Petrashov of Kyrgyzstan took the win in the 100 breast in Ft Lauderdale
Leah Hayes showed off her breaststroke chops to take third in the 200 with a new best time
May 02nd, 2025 National, News, Pro Swim Series
as today marks their 2nd straight day of scratches
A few other names popped up on the scratch report, but it seems to be just workload management. Top seed in the 200 free, Penny Oleksiak has forgone a spot in the event, instead opting to race the 50 fly. Katie Grimes
as is she had she would have had the very hard triple of the 200 free
As it is she still has the latter two events back to back
After a great 1500 free on day 1 and a stellar 400 last night, Ryan Erisman seems to be sticking to the freestyle events as he has dropped the 400 IM
where he was the 8th seed in favor of the 200 free
While Hunter Armstrong and Caeleb Dressel still appear on the heat sheets in the 50 fly
the pair were no-shows in their events this morning
so it’ll be a wait-and-see approach to determine whether or not they will swim

who was traded for the third time in a year
they’ll have an opportunity to match any offer sheet that Grimes signs
but it could put Philadelphia in a situation to potentially go beyond their budget if a rival team drives up the price
With free agency still months away, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus recently laid out each team’s toughest free agency decision. For the Sixers, the future of Grimes was the highlight.

Mandatory Credit: Kyle Ross-Imagn Images / Kyle Ross-Imagn Images“The best-case scenario for Philadelphia may be that Grimes takes a deal starting near the $14.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception,” Pincus wrote. “Although [Grimes] may feel that's too low of an offer.”
Unlike last season, the Sixers don’t have money to blow. They locked in some core players, extending Tyrese Maxey, and added Paul George with a max deal. Several short-term additions could also return, depending on what they do with their contract options.
When Grimes got to Philly, he was coming off a 47-game stint with the Mavs, where he averaged 10 points on 40 percent shooting, along with four rebounds and two assists per game.
In 28 games with the Sixers, Grimes’ value likely skyrocketed. Seeing the court for 33 minutes per game, Grimes produced 22 points per game on 37 percent shooting from three, while taking eight attempts per game. He also averaged five rebounds and five assists.
Despite a lack of looks at Grimes with the core group, the Sixers are convinced he’ll be able to remain productive when the regulars are back in the mix. Reality has to be kept in check, though. Grimes was starring for the Sixers during the second half of the injury-filled season, but his usage will take a hit when Embiid, Maxey, and George are back in the mix.
If there is a team out there willing to invest more because they have the space to give Grimes more of a role, it could get tricky for the Sixers’ front office.

Marilyn Grimes believes staying sober is all about routine
“Addiction really takes out the patterns of everyday life," she said
But those daily patterns — a job to report to, a bed to return to — can be difficult or impossible to find for folks getting out of rehab or prison. Nearly 20% of those who go to rehab are homeless when they’re admitted
More than that are unemployed or suffer strained family and friend relationships
Courage to Change
a Bloomington sober living organization that Grimes co-founded in 2016
Sober living houses provide a space for recovering addicts to “reintegrate” into daily life
promoting social accountability through recovering roommates and case workers and providing additional paths to recovery like a 12-step program
sober living houses are also about rebuilding trust with friends and family
“It shows families that they’re recovering, and committed to recovering,” Grimes said. “It helps to show people that you’re putting in the work.”In 2016, while working at the criminal justice reintegration organization New Leaf New Life
Grimes noticed that many people leaving prison or rehab in south-central Indiana were moving clear across the state
Grimes had no experience working with sober living
she’d previously led a family-owned plumbing company in Bloomington
she was working at New Leaf New Life while earning a bachelor’s degree in substance abuse counseling at Indiana University
But with little more than a spare bedroom, a trusting landlord and co-founder Brandon Drake, Grimes started Courage to Change
it’s grown into one of the largest sober living organizations in the south-central region
Grimes says manning a sober living house is difficult work
involving complex layers of bureaucracy and ever-growing demands
But even as she celebrates her 70th birthday this year
Grimes remains committed to maintaining and nurturing an organization that she believes is vital to sustained recovery
places and things are what usually need to change,” Grimes said
“This is a place where people can really say
When Grimes was arrested at age 53 for selling drugs
Grimes got hooked on painkillers in her late 40s after being prescribed OxyContin, the most infamous contributor to the opioid epidemic
Grimes had spent years saving face at work and around family and friends
all the while slipping further into opioid abuse
going to greater lengths to get her hands on the painkillers
When she began dealing drugs to support her own habit
part of her knew it was only a matter of time before she got caught
“It only takes so long for word to get around.”
Grimes was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2008
she knew being sent to jail was her opportunity to reset
Grimes got clean and was granted an early release from prison
She returned to Bloomington and found a job at New Leaf New Life
which helps people released from incarceration integrate back into society
“It’s what I should’ve been doing all along.”
Courage to Change emerged out of casual conversations between Grimes and co-founder Brandon Drake
another recovering addict who later relapsed
Grimes was staying in a two-bedroom apartment with a landlord open to renting to felons
When she agreed to let Grimes host two women in the spare room
The organization then moved to Ellettsville, where Grimes’ parents owned a rental house. They increased the number of residents and expanded the program, eventually receiving nonprofit status and obtaining an official sober living certification through the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction
Grimes said certification was a costly and timely process that took more than a year, involving applications, inspections and bureaucratic delays. The certification is critical, she said, allowing her sober living houses to receive benefits from the Indiana Affiliation of Recovery Residences (INARR) and appear on official lists of certified sober living houses in the state
Grimes said the Ellettsville location proved problematic
making it difficult for residents to get to work or attend court hearings in downtown Bloomington
she rented two houses in Bloomington owned by the same landlord who allowed her to launch the first sober living space
“She knew I always paid rent on time and saw that we were legit
Board members well-versed in grant writing helped secure funding to offer residents benefits such as rental assistance
United Way of South Central Indiana supplies basic living essentials such as toilet paper
At the beginning of 2025, Courage to Change opened two new sober living houses with help from a $615,000 grant from the homelessness-reduction organization Heading Home
Grimes now serves more than 40 clients in six houses
a Courage to Change sober living home resembles a college house you might find in downtown Bloomington: simple
but it’s clear residents do more than just sleep there
“There’s always a community inside the house,” Grimes said
if you’re really there for the right reasons
the whole house is going to become a community.”
submit to drug tests and commit to a 12-step program
residents develop friendships and grow closer to one another
It's a night-and-day contrast to the risk of relapse for recovering addicts who continue to hang around old friends who still use
And while there’s strict expectations for accountability
Grimes says respect and autonomy are vital to the program
There are no monitoring devices or cameras in bedrooms or bathrooms
and residents choose when to leave the program after their initial 90 days
Grimes voluntarily shares her own experiences with addiction and sobriety with the residents
a common ground that she believes builds trust with them
“They can know I know what I’m talking about
her organization has grown from an informal one-bedroom operation to a certified sober living organization with hundreds of former residents
Grimes hopes the community will continue to support Courage to Change as it tries to help everyone it can
“We know the need isn’t going away,” Grimes said

key benefactors and the legendary Oski the Bear came together Monday for a festive celebration of the opening of the Grimes Engineering Center
UC Berkeley Engineering marked this exciting milestone — just two years after the building’s groundbreaking — with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Chancellor Rich Lyons
Situated at the heart of the Berkeley Engineering community
light-filled design will provide a welcoming space for engineering students to gather and collaborate
as well as the college’s flagship entrepreneurship program
the newly relocated Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology
Lyons expressed his excitement over the new building’s impact on the student experience
“It’s not just the benefits of new physical space
it is also a matter of what that space supports and what it catalyzes,” he said
I am quite certain that this new center is perfectly suited for the constructive collision of ideas — big and small
brilliant and crazy — for all that makes Berkeley
engineering dean Tsu-Jae King Liu noted that the new center reflects the college’s commitment to transforming the culture of the engineering field into one that is more welcoming and inclusive
“The Grimes Engineering Center is the physical embodiment of this transformation,” she said
“It will empower generations of future engineering innovators and leaders to be effective agents for positive change in our society.”
A light glass-and-steel pavilion added more than 35,500 square feet and two floors to the former Bechtel Engineering Center
This innovative adaptive reuse strategy significantly reduced the overall embodied carbon impact of the renovation and expansion of the former facility
The project is on track to earn a Platinum LEED certification later this year
the highest possible rating for the green-building certification system
The new four-story building was developed with architectural and engineering firm Skidmore
Owings & Merrill and general contractor XL Construction
Given the center’s proximity to the Hayward Fault — a mere 1,300 feet — seismic resilience also factored into the building’s design
including an innovative system of tension rods that use shape-memory alloy cables that stretch and absorb energy during an earthquake
then return to their original shape like a rubber band
This is the first time that this special material has been used in new construction
the cables were tested on the earthquake shake table at the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center and in the structural engineering lab in Davis Hall
The center’s modern design also reinforces its role as an educational hub
Its transparent profile puts the vibrancy of student life on display while showcasing new building technologies
Every structured system in the building is exposed and can serve as a teaching tool
allowing engineering students to examine connections
The dynamic mix of specialized spaces and programs was welcomed by the engineering students in attendance
who were uniformly enthusiastic about how the new building will shape their campus experience
“This engineering center will not only be a place where students come to study
have meetings and meet with their advisers,” said Vivian Chung
a senior majoring in bioengineering and materials science and engineering
“It will be a place where students know they’ll have a home to go to throughout the day
come up with and execute the most outrageous yet innovative ideas late into the night
and gain the knowledge and support they need to succeed here.”
The Grimes Engineering Center was funded entirely by philanthropy
Lyons and Liu expressed their deep gratitude to key benefactors and highlighted the important role the Engineering Advisory Board played in getting the project off the ground
“It began with the members of our Engineering Advisory Board
whose early feedback on the building design and leadership in philanthropy propelled this forward,” said Liu
“It was heartening to see how the vision resonated with so many people
Among those attendees were Michael (B.S.’87 EECS) and Janelle Grimes (B.A.’86 PoliSci)
the center’s lead donors and the building’s namesake
Liu thanked them for their many years of service to UC Berkeley
Michael Grimes served on several UC Berkeley advisory boards
including 14 years on the Engineering Advisory Board
And Lyons honored them for “enriching the educational experience of Berkeley undergraduates” through their role in developing and launching unique campus programs
Liu also recognized Eugene Jarvis (B.S.’76 EECS)
founder of arcade video game entertainment company Raw Thrills
The Eugene Jarvis Auditorium and the Raw Thrills Lounge in the building are named in his honor
Michael Grimes focused on the new building’s purpose: to provide students with a place to research
discover and develop breakthroughs with far-reaching
would not have been possible without the contributions and shared vision of many in the Berkeley community
“You have not only the tremendous gratitude of the thousands of students who will inhabit this space
but also the extended gratitude of the millions
of people whose lives will be improved by the breakthroughs inspired in this transcendent edifice with a supremely worthy purpose,” he said
Liu shared how she expects the new center to become the “nexus of student life” for current and future Berkeley engineers
“I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has made this possible!” she said

Grimes is questioning the beauty messages introduced to young women
The singer took to X this week to question if anyone else was experiencing being "choked to death on beauty culture" after a targeted makeup ad interrupted a "nice calm super bro mens" podcast
"The beauty ads chasing me into the men's podcast realm is another level of psychological horror I have to say," the Canadian artist added in a separate post on April 14
"Can I go somewhere where someone isn't shoving 'DONT YOU WANT TO BE BEAUTIFUL' down my throat," Grimes
"I'm getting like radicalized just out of pure desire to not have to engage with this sick notion of beauty that follows me like a wraith ..
doing some targeted ad about beauty while I try to listen to the history of war on the American frontier."
The musician expressed dread over the effect of "beauty culture" on the next generation
"The insidiousness of what our culture does to young women is insane
I feel enraged knowing I won't be able to protect my daughter from this
Last month, Grimes opened up about her unsuccessful attempts to limit her children's exposure to the internet
Grimes says she 'tried begging' Elon Musk to keep their children off the internet
After debunking an online rumor that she wrote a post about the "sexuality and kinks" of Fortune 500 CEOs
Grimes responded to a user who asked if she could remove the post and "protect your children" from the content
"I unfortunately do not control the internet and cannot wipe this from the internet," Grimes wrote
"I have tried begging the public and my kids' dad to keep them offline
The Philadelphia 76ers had a miserable 2024-25 season so one might not think there are many highlights from the season
this is the NBA and these guys are the best of the best so there is always something to look back on and take as a positive from the season
Now is the time to look back at the season and some of the highlights the Sixers were able to come up with in what was an overall dim season
Up next in the 2024-25 look back is Quentin Grimes who made a big impact right away after joining Philadelphia at the trade deadline
he averaged 21.9 points and shot 37.3% from deep
but on a March 1 night against the Golden State Warriors
Grimes scored a then career-high of 44 points on 18-for-24 shooting while knocking down six triples in a 126-119 win over the Warriors
He was phenomenal as Golden State was unable to come up with any answer for the 4-year man out of Houston
Grimes will be a restricted free agent when that period begins on June 30
but one has to believe the Sixers will retain his services
He is still so young and has the ability to be that No
1 scoring option when Philadelphia is missing the likes of Joel Embiid or Paul George in the future
Affectionately known as “Eddie” or “Bubba”

Bishop Grimes defeated Bishop Ludden in a softball matchup on Wednesday
(Marisa Marie Pankow | Contributing Photographer)Marisa Marie Pankow
.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Ryan Storie | rstorie@syracuse.comIn the final chapter of Bishop Grimes softball
the Cobras are scripting a season to remember
Bishop Grimes exploded offensively to take down Bishop Ludden
The win was the Cobras’ fourth of the campaign
a feat they had not been able to accomplish since 2018
It took Bishop Grimes just six games to reach that mark this year
The last time the Cobras had a winning record after six games was in 2016
“It’s them putting in the work and being a little bit older,” Bishop Grimes coach Marc Ascioti said
and they know this is their final run as a Cobra
The electric Bishop Grimes offense that has terrorized opposing pitchers came to play against Bishop Ludden
The Cobras recorded multiple runs in every inning
including 11- and seven-run bursts to close out the contest
Pankow went 4-for-5 from the plate with four RBIs and three runs scored
Butler recorded two doubles to knock in six runs while crossing home base three times on her own
The offensive showcase wasn’t limited to just the top performers
Every Bishop Grimes player either drove in a run or scored themselves
“The team came as one today,” Ascioti said
Everyone got to play and everybody contributed.”
Defensively, the Cobras shut down the Gaelic Knights at the plate early on. Pitcher Antonella Ascioti struck out six batters in five innings of action
1/28Bishop Ludden Girls Softball hosts Bishop Grimesthe
Bishop Grimes has scored double-digit runs in five of its six outings
The Cobras’ average of nearly 15 runs per game is good for second out of all Section III Class C squads
Ascioti credits the team’s success to a strong senior class
“We’ve always been a young varsity team,” Ascioti said
“I’ve had these girls since junior varsity
They finally have five seniors this year and they’ve been buying in.”
Bishop Grimes will be closing and merging with Bishop Ludden next year to form Bishop Ludden/Grimes. Many of the Cobras’ softball players will be donning the Gaelic Knights’ green next season
“Some of the girls are going to go to Bishop Ludden
They’re always going to be Cobras and just go out there and have fun and win as many games as possible.”
Bishop Grimes (4-2) is set to face off against Tully on Friday
Bishop Ludden (1-4) hosts Cato-Meridian on Friday
“It’s a great group of kids,” Ascioti said
They’re going to do the best that they can and represent Bishop Grimes one last time.”

many Sixers fans are already wondering what’s next for Quentin Grimes this offseason
On Wednesday, we asked you for the top offseason questions on your mind as the Sixers circle the drain on this season
Before we dive in, I’m planning to do these every Wednesday moving forward. So if you have something else on your mind after reading these, drop them in the comments or hit me up at Bluesky and we’ll save it for next week’s mailbag
we got multiple questions about Quentin Grimes and how he might affect the Sixers’ options with their mid-level exception this offseason
Is there any possible Grimes contract that could push the Sixers into the second apron
Affect their ability to use the MLE or BAE
Do you see the Sixers being able to use the full MLE (14M) or does a Grimes signing put that out of reach
I recently wrote about Grimes’ future—a special shout-out to this comment, which aged like spoiled milk—and how that could affect Guerschon Yabusele as well
The TL;DR version: Between Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain, the Sixers already have $149.1 million on their books next season. The first apron is projected to be $195.9 million
If the Sixers use the $14.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception to re-sign Yabusele
they can’t cross the first apron under any circumstance
If they use the $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception to re-sign him
they’ll be hard-capped at the $207.8 million second apron instead
I’m assuming Andre Drummond will pick up his $5.0 million player option for next season (he’d be crazy not to)
so that brings the Sixers up to $154.1 million with five players under contract
If they pick up their team options on Adem Bona ($2.0 million)
Jared Butler ($2.3 million) and Lonnie Walker IV ($2.9 million)—or add five veteran-minimum contracts in their place (roughly $2.3 million each)—that adds another $11.4-11.5 million to their books
They’d be up to around $165.5 million for 10 players
Using the full non-taxpayer MLE on Yabusele would push them near $180 million
which would leave roughly $16 million for Grimes and their other three roster spots
Grimes alone might garner more than $16 million based on how he’s played over the past month
And that’s not even counting the possibility of Kelly Oubre Jr
($8.4 million) and Eric Gordon ($3.5 million) picking up their respective player options
nor the Sixers keeping their top-six-protected first-round pick
it would have a cap hit between $8.3 million and $13.3 million.)
I’d say it’s far more likely than not that they won’t have access to the non-taxpayer MLE to use on Yabusele
They still might be able to keep all three of Grimes
Yabu and Oubre and stay under the second apron
but that would require convincing Yabu to take the taxpayer MLE
I would defer to the many draft gurus that we have here at LB. Watching the Sixers was painful enough this year; I couldn’t subject myself to a below-.500 Rutgers squad
even if it did have two likely top-five picks
(I’m saving my draft prep for post-lottery in case they do keep the pick.)
if Harper and Bailey are the consensus top two picks after Flagg
I’d consider trading down in that scenario
The Sixers are in a position where they may need to accumulate assets to eventually offload Embiid or George’s contracts if their health continues to go awry
They also aren’t necessarily in need of more star power
(I doubt Harper or Bailey would be thrilled to be relegated as backups right away
my inclination would be to explore the trade market and see what they could get for a pick in the 2-4 range
If they could land a lower first-round pick in this year’s draft along with another future first-rounder or two
Among the recent additions to the team over the last several weeks
who do you think has the best chance of coming back next season
This has flown somewhat under the radar given
*gestures wildly at everything else that happened this season*
did Daryl Morey and the Sixers front office low-key cook ever since the trade deadline
Taking a flier on recent first-round picks such as Jalen Hood-Schifino (No. 17 in 2023) and Chuma Okeke (No. 16 in 2019) is the exact type of low-risk, high-upside strategy that can help the Sixers salvage whatever’s left of this godforsaken season. If any of them pop, the Sixers still have enough flexibility under the luxury tax—roughly $850,000 at the moment—to waive someone and sign them to a rest-of-season contract
these guys are getting more run now than they ever would if the Sixers were fully healthy
as much as I enjoyed seeing Okeke gobble up 15 rebounds (including seven offensive boards!) in Wednesday’s blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder
it’s fair to wonder what place a career 31.7 percent three-point shooter would have on this team moving forward
Hood-Schifino had a rough game against OKC
he’ll be a restricted free agent this offseason if the Sixers tender him a qualifying offer
They might not want to commit that many roster spots to young players if they keep all four of Bona
but I think they’re better off taking home run swings on younger guys rather than signing another AARP veteran
If Embiid and George can’t stay healthy moving forward
hitting on cheap lottery tickets might be the only way to salvage whatever’s left of this era
If the Sixers lose their pick and cheap out Grimes
This is a trick question. As LB’s Dave Early wrote Wednesday, the answer in that scenario is “never.” With that said: The Eagles just won the Super Bowl

With the Sixers’ key deadline acquisition set to hit restricted free agency this summer
the front office will have to decide how much of his production can translate to a contending team
we’re certainly revisiting a lot of discussions we haven’t had in nearly a decade
Perhaps one of the more challenging parts of The Process days was deciphering whose production was legitimate and whose stats were empty
points are going to appear on the scoreboard
Determining if they got there in a way that is sustainable for a good team in the future is the difficult task
Michael Carter-Williams was a lottery pick and won Rookie of the Year with the Sixers in 2013-14
He was then traded at the following deadline in what ended up being the perfect sell-high from Sam Hinkie as Carter-Williams bounced around from team-to-team from the 2014-15 trade deadline until 2023 and is now not even in the NBA
there are obviously a few success stories from The Process as well
We’ll stick to the guard theme and point out that undrafted free agent T.J
McConnell also logged a ton of minutes in the backcourt on some awful Sixers teams
He stuck around for some of the team’s first playoff appearances with Joel Embiid
He has become a regular rotation player for an Indiana team that got to the conference finals last year and will be back in the playoffs this season
As this season’s Sixers play out the string with the entire fanbase seemingly now united in achieving the highest amount of ping-pong ball combinations heading into the May draft lottery
this conversation is once again resurfacing surrounding newly-acquired guard Quentin Grimes
Grimes appeared in his 15th game of the season for Philly after being traded away from Dallas last month
The 29-point effort from the 24-year-old was his fifth game with at least 25 points in the month of March
It is worth noting however that Grimes turned the ball over six times — a season high — and only had three assists in the 118-105 loss to the Raptors
getting to the bottom of the statistical profiles of guards on bad teams is clearly a challenge
Guards are the ones with the ball in their hands more often than not on offense
Bigs do a lot of their scoring off of dump-offs in the paint or catching and shooting from the midrange or three-point area
the more the chief scoring guards on any team are likely going to look to take matters into their own hands
No one is disputing how good Tyrese Maxey is but it is worth noting
that Maxey’s 21 field goal attempts per game this season are a career high
his usage rate has gone up considerably since joining the Sixers
It was at 18.5% in Dallas and currently sits at 24.1% in Philadelphia
Even the season-long aggregate rate between both teams of 20.3% is his highest full-season usage rate of his career by close to five percentage points as his previous usage high was 15.8% last season
one that he also spent with two different teams having started the year in New York before finishing it in Detroit
Grimes was carving out a role for himself in Dallas
contributing admirably on both ends of the floor
Acquiring Grimes last month was exactly the kind of move Daryl Morey and the rest of the front office needed to make in an effort to get younger and salvage a future piece from this abysmal season
Between his time in Dallas and Philadelphia, Grimes is shooting 47.8% from the field and if he can stay above 46.8% for the rest of the season, he’ll have a career year in the field goal percentage department. He is currently at 60.5% from a true shooting percentage standpoint, which is slightly below the 61.9% true shooting percentage he posted in 2022-23 with the Knicks
That 2022-23 season in New York is one we should also highlight if anyone thought that his production in either Dallas or Philadelphia was inflated
Grimes appeared in 71 games and started 66 of them for a Knicks team that went 47-35 and made it to the second round of the playoffs
He had played well enough to go from a bench player to a starter and rather than being retained by the Knicks
was used at the 2024 deadline as a trade chip which can often be the case with younger players on contending teams looking to acquire more established rotation players for the stretch run
changes of scenery are nothing new for Grimes as he experienced similar changes both in team and in role in college
Grimes was a five-star recruit out of high school and a McDonald’s All-American
Grimes did not hit the ground running in college
But he contributed sparingly and shot just 38.4% from the field and wound up transferring to Houston at the end of the season
Grimes started 21 out of the 30 games he played in
but his numbers were better across the board
he started every game and was a third team All-American selection in addition to being named the co-Player of the Year in the American Athletic Conference
it took Grimes some time to find his footing in college
but he became a high-level player by the time his collegiate career was over
Grimes looks like more of a player that just had to find the right situation for himself than a stat-padder
He’s shown enough promise in New York and Dallas to make fans believe the right combination of coaching and teammates around him would allow Grimes to settle down somewhere
It’s unrealistic to expect his statistical performance of this season
will continue on what we all hope are some more winning Sixers teams
But he should be the top priority for Morey and company this summer when it comes to the team’s free agents
Arguments can be made that both New York and Dallas moved on from Grimes too soon and the Sixers must not make the same mistake
They need to be the ones to empower Grimes to get the most out of him on a consistent basis
That’s the biggest difference between what Grimes is currently doing and what Carter-Williams and McConnell were doing during The Process
We’ve seen Grimes have success in small stints elsewhere
There’s enough talent in his game for the right franchise to unlock him and have a guard good enough to start for contending teams
If the Sixers return to contention in future seasons and Grimes is a part of it
this season will have at least given us something good

This week we dive into your questions about lottery odds
the draft and the Sixers’ complicated offseason ahead
So unlike playoff seeding, there are no tiebreakers for lottery odds. The ping pong balls are simply split up if teams finish with the same record. You could get into a coin toss scenario depending on how it all shakes out. It would behoove the Sixers greatly to finish with a worse record than the Nets as I’m sure everyone is aware by now
Obviously, Flagg is the guy at No. 1. I said last week and I stand by it — if their pick lands in the top four they absolutely should take a player
Rutgers’ Dylan Harper would be a weird fit but he’s also awesome
Rutgers’ Ace Bailey probably fits the best here because of his size
His biggest issue at the moment is shot creation which isn’t necessarily the Sixers’ biggest need
Edgecombe is also a slightly weird fit as a pure two but he’s so incredibly dynamic that you take him and figure it out
I’ve seen many people suggest trading back if the pick falls to five or six. I get the idea, but I’m also not sure which team is trading up and if you’d get proper value. Maybe a team falls in love with Duke’s Kon Knueppel, who was excellent in the ACC Tournament while Flagg was out
maybe the Sixers are better off taking a guy like Knueppel — it’s not like 6-foot-7 guys that can shoot the lights out and put the ball on the deck grow on trees
If someone like San Antonio is willing to give you two picks inside the top 20 for pick five or six
I’ll start by saying it’s nearly impossible to know these things going into the draft
Would I have thought that Jared McCain would look this good as an NBA starter and (at one point) become the runaway favorite for Rookie of the Year
And I say that as someone who loved the pick and was super high on McCain
If the Sixers were actually whole this season
I think he would’ve played a huge role in any type of playoff run
Are there guys that could potentially do that between pick three and six
The two guys that probably fit the best right now in that range are Bailey and Knueppel
They both can shoot and both can play on the wing
Edgecombe is a tricky fit as a two guard but he could make an immediate impact given his elite athleticism
His shot is streaky but it’s far from broken
but I’m curious how he’ll hold up physically in the NBA on the wing
he’s another guy that can really shoot it and score at 6-foot-6
I have been and always will be a proponent of best player available
Whether that guy can play now or two years from now
He chose the 20-year-old McCain over 23-year-old Dalton Knecht
Everything suggested Knecht was the more NBA-ready player
I think most NBA executives would take McCain right now
That’s not even getting into the fact that the Sixers absolutely should have one eye on the future given the uncertainty of Joel Embiid and Paul George’s health
If this scenario plays out you simply take Flagg and get the most you can out of Embiid and George until the wheels fall off
Flagg would be an exceptional fit between the two of them to compete right now
He’ll then become another franchise cornerstone to join the likes of Maxey
The Sixers would be in a rare spot where they can try to win now while knowing another bigger (and likely more promising) window is right around the corner
This is definitely a better question for Bryan
As we’ve pointed out, the only true threat to sign Grimes to an offer sheet as of now is the Brooklyn Nets
Given the Nets will actually have work to do just to hit the salary floor let alone go over the cap
them throwing money at Grimes would make a bit of sense
The guess here is it will likely fall between $15-$20 million per season — something like four years and $60-$80 million
Letting Grimes walk after pulling that trade off during a miserable season would be a disaster
So it’s my theory that if the Nets do offer Grimes a big contract
it will likely be just to jack up the price on the Sixers — a tactic Sean Marks has deployed several times before
There are other intriguing restricted free agents Marks could target
but given Grimes’ explosion here to end the season he might be the most sensible one
The biggest implication of matching an expensive Grimes’ offer sheet would be the team’s ability to re-sign Guerschon Yabusele
If Grimes’ deal falls in the $20 million per year range
it could mean the end for Yabusele’s time here
For something more in-depth on Grimes’ next contract, I would check out Bryan’s most recent article on it
but I would be pretty surprised if Daryl Morey is fired
he’s one of the highest-paid executives in the NBA and recently signed an extension through the 2027-28 season
It would be very costly for the Sixers to move on from him
I also think the ownership group will give him at least another season given how disastrous this one was from an injury standpoint
Morey took a couple big gambles signing 34-year-old George to a four-year max contract and giving Embiid an extension coming off another meniscus surgery
George dealt with multiple injuries all season long and Embiid’s knee was never right
This will get a collective groan but if ..
the Sixers can turn this around quickly — especially if they add a high first-round pick into the mix
there will be no excuses if George and Embiid can’t stay on the floor and the rest of the roster is unable to win games without them
as much as the big swings were big misses this season
signing Justin Edwards as an undrafted free agent
trading for Grimes and Jared Butler — that’s a third of a roster worth of quality players added over the past few months
Morey is a guy that’s always gone big game hunting but with the Sixers
I can respect that he wants to look into more radical treatment plans
PRP injections are actually more common now in the U.S
Embiid has reportedly received those before
What you’re referring to is something called Orthokine — very similar from my understanding
He had to go to Germany because it’s considered experimental and it’s not done in the U.S
Bryant did it ahead of his age 33 season and wound up having two outstanding seasons before all the injuries caught up to him
but it took Lonzo Ball years to get back to playing NBA games after having it done

The newest building to open at UC Berkeley this spring will be named after Michael and Janelle Grimes
generous benefactors who have made impactful contributions to the university and its students
sits at the heart of the Berkeley Engineering community
providing a home where they can engage in expanded opportunities for collaboration and innovation
The building will serve as a central hub for the north side of campus
hosting academic and social events in addition to advising
The building’s name honors Michael (B.S.’87 EECS) and Janelle Grimes (B.A.’86 PoliSci)
Michael Grimes would go on to become a successful technology investment banker
becoming managing director and head of Global Technology Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley
Together, Michael and Janelle Grimes co-founded the flagship dual-degree Management, Entrepreneurship, & Technology (M.E.T.) Program
enabling students to earn two bachelor’s degrees from the College of Engineering and the Haas School of Business through a four-year integrated curriculum
Michael Grimes highlighted the synergistic benefits of bringing engineers and business leaders together when speaking of the new center’s light-filled forum
He saw its potential as a “nexus point for events that bring founders
CEOs and other technology leaders together with students and faculty to drive more innovation.”
UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons was dean of the Haas School of Business at the time the M.E.T
He recalled the active role Michael Grimes played throughout the multi-year process of taking a new degree pairing from an initial idea to a thriving program that now has more than 400 students and alumni
“It’s fitting that a building dedicated to student success would be named after Michael and Janelle,” said Lyons
“Over the years they have been passionate champions for UC Berkeley’s students and our public mission through the development of programs and improvements in student experience that make the world a better place
I’m grateful and honored to celebrate the contributions of these dedicated alumni with the naming of the Grimes Engineering Center.”
The Grimes Engineering Center will also house the M.E.T
Program as well as the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology
“Berkeley has offered us the ‘give back’ opportunity of a lifetime with so many projects to create
and immerse ourselves in,” said Janelle Grimes
They’re also founders of the Spieker Undergraduate Business Program at the Haas School of Business, and Michael Grimes served on the advisory boards of the College of Engineering, the College of Computing, Data Science and Society and Berkeley Changemaker
an academically rigorous campuswide certificate program that enrolls some 20% of undergraduates at UC Berkeley
“It has been a joy and inspiration to work with Michael during his tenure on the Engineering Advisory Board
His enthusiasm for elevating our students’ learning experience is contagious,” said Tsu-Jae King Liu
“I am grateful to Michael and Janelle for their leadership in realizing our vision of a welcoming and inclusive academic home for all of our students and broader community.”
The Grimes Engineering Center is funded entirely by philanthropy with support from more than 135 donors
including members of the Engineering Advisory Board
The new facility literally builds upon the foundations of the former Bechtel Engineering Center
The four-story center adds 35,500 square feet across two floors
providing ample space for collaboration for college and campus communities
“I passed the Bechtel Engineering Center at least once every day
I dropped my resume off for my first internship application,” said Michael Grimes
recalling his time as a student at UC Berkeley
and what they accomplished with architecture and construction across our great nation
To stand on the shoulders of those giants and play a small part in furthering their legacy is a dream fulfilled.”
Both Michael and Janelle Grimes are Builders of Berkeley
a designation given to the university’s leading philanthropists
The Berkeley Engineering community will be celebrating the grand opening of the Grimes Engineering Center later this spring
The first time I found myself enraptured by Grimes was on a quiet afternoon in the fall of 2020 — while clicking through my friends-of-friends’ Spotify playlists
Much of my life at that point was soundtracked by my constantly running bedroom speaker and Zoom classes
and Grimes’s album Art Angels suddenly parted the clouds and opened my ears to a whole other world of music
While I don’t consider myself a Grimes superfan by any means
I would be lying to you if I said I didn’t like her music at all
I have been inclined to examine my own relationship to Grimes
is a singer-songwriter born in Vancouver to her well-to-do parents
after being expelled from McGill University
went on to pursue music and has been making waves from the start
launched her career in the Canadian indie scene and planted her firmly in the spaces of the fledgling social media culture
winning her the Electronic Album of the Year at the 2013 Juno Awards
Lead singles “Genesis” and “Oblivion” are still being featured everywhere
cementing her prevalence in popular culture with more than 700 million streams between them on Spotify alone
Her music blends electronic and synth-pop and is a sonic treat to listen to — one that has been a cornerstone of indie since her debut in the music scene
she and a friend tried floating down the Mississippi river until their impoundment in Minneapolis
she revealed there was a period of her life where she “only ate spaghetti.” While there’s a sharp awareness of her distance from normalcy
I think she’s incredibly open and honest with her fans and the internet as a whole
Grimes has curated herself as a sort of brand
has become more faded for me over the last few years
Her self-stated role as a feminist artist began to ring hollow as her online activity shifted into more controversial spheres — notably praising patriarchy for its role in “developing society” and selling her art as NFTs
she’s best known on the internet for dating Elon Musk
a man she is still affiliated with to this day for having three children with him
well before Musk rose to infamy in the U.S
but their partnership didn’t exist in a vacuum then
I won’t give you an exhaustive biography of Elon Musk
There are enough people examining his upbringing
his life as a child of emerald mine owners in the wake of South African apartheid and his current role within the U.S
Buying out Tesla and founding SpaceX made the name Elon Musk synonymous with progress prior to recent years
he worked hard at attaching his name to a future that would be full of electric cars and trips to Mars
But Musk’s problems couldn’t be overcome by this glossy idea of the future
Apart from taking credit for the work of Tesla prior to his actual involvement
he has taken both of these companies and made these objectively cool things accessible only to people willing to pay the price
his “Tesla Tunnels” under cities like Las Vegas are not only reinventing the public transit wheel but also overcomplicating and overcharging for something that already exists
His Tesla vehicles themselves are riddled with paywalled features and updates — under Musk
Grimes’s partnership with Musk came about from their mutual love for posting online — specifically
it was a pre-Musk Twitter that brought them together
Grimes and her interests in the unusual and science fiction would make sense with Musk — his less savory traits don’t seem to have turned her off
Grimes has said that X Æ A-12’s life “mirrors Paul-type stuff” from the same Dune novels that inspired her first album
critics (and myself) argue that Paul’s white savior-esque path is a cautionary tale
Projecting this “chosen one” mentality not only on her child but onto herself (in the books
Paul’s mother is integral to the prophecies he eventually fulfills) just feels weird
was given opportunities that others aren’t by way of her family’s wealth
her being comfortable with putting a starving artist veneer over her currently glitzy life does not sit well with me
spaghetti-diet persona to lighten her actions done in the context of people like Musk
Even her lofty delusions for their shared child can be shrugged off with the understanding that she just really likes the Dune books
There is nothing damning for Grimes herself
only for the people she surrounds herself with
after Musk’s “Roman salute” at Donald Trump’s inauguration
Grimes went on X (formerly Twitter) and denounced Nazism — but definitely not Musk
Despite Grimes’s current distance from problematic topics
it is not as reassuring as I would like it to be
I’m not sure if I want to salvage an artist in my mind who hasn’t taken issue with things that I would in my own personal life
this is a long-overdue examination of Grimes
I didn’t want to look at her critically because of her contributions to the Canadian indie scene and general musical talent
The void she’s left behind in my playlists is felt
but nothing that some deeper research into similar artists hasn’t been able to fix
but my patience with Grimes has run out with her constant alignment with the alt-right and fascist people
There’s a saying that’s been floating around online
you would have hated Grimes,” implying that the old Grimes
the person who created music that shifted the scene and was beloved online
would have despised the Grimes we see today
I don’t hate this analysis — it’s one part death of the author
one part separating the art from the artist
still alive and well and attending parties celebrating Donald Trump’s inauguration
Maybe this is the person she was all along
but I don’t think it can fully eclipse my own problems with its creator

Roosevelt ISD voters gave the district's $58.5 million bond package the go-ahead
with nearly 68% of votes supporting the proposal
according to final but unofficial results released by the Lubbock County Elections Office on election night Saturday
aimed mostly at campus facilities including a new elementary school
with 223 against in the May 3 municipal election
RISD Superintendent Dallas Grimes told the A-J he's thankful for the vote of confidence from residents in the east Lubbock County district
because I do believe in divine intervention and we are committed to making the best decisions we can for our students," Grimes said
The bond package comes in response to the district facing aging and inadequate facilities that need some upgrades or that need to be completely rebuilt
"This was a big ask -$58.5 million for a 3A school district is a big ask - and we're just glad we were able to get the support of our district to invest in our schools and our students," Grimes said
Saturday's results come after RISD voters rejected a similar $58.5 million bond package last November
Grimes said that message didn't go unnoticed
"That told us we needed to do a little better job of explaining the why," Grimes said
"I know voters in our area are typically conservative
but I think the numbers conveyed and they see the need to (make this investment in our schools.)"
his district is committed to getting work started soon
"It was a big ask and now we have a big responsibility to deliver for our district and our students," Grimes said. "I'm just confident our current Eagles in the building will benefit- and future Eagles that haven't been born yet - will be able to look back and be thankful that we made this commitment now."
Schools have two means of support funded through taxes
A school's maintenance and operations (M&O) tax rate is set by the state and can only be used to help the district to pay salaries and daily operational expenses
The interest and sinking (I&S) tax rate is what the Texas school district can leverage for bonds to help pay for capital projects and improvements
Ahead of the election, Grimes said the proposal is asking residents to consider a 21-cent increase to the district's current I&S rate, which is set at 19 cents, according to the Texas Education Agency.
RISD's I&S tax rate has been dropping since the Fiscal Year 2020-21 rate
which was at 28.16 cents per $100 home value evaluations that fell to 21 cents in FY 21-22
this tax increase will not affect homeowners over the age of 65 who have filed for an "Over 65 Exemption," according to RISD
RISD stated that it would cost homeowners with a $150,000 home valuation approximately $8.34 per month
What will the RISD 2025 bond help fund?"In the last 65 years
this community has not passed a bond for a brand new academic campus," Grimes said
to maximize the growth that has moved into the district."
Grimes said the new elementary facility would be able to house 600 students
He also said the need for the build stems from the average age of the district facilities being around 65 years old
with parts of the elementary being 90 years old
"There's a (Works Projects Administration) plaque on there."
WPA was a New Deal initiative from the Franklin D
Grimes said the new elementary school would be located directly behind the existing one
the district will demolish the existing structure
Other projects would include upgrades to the secondary campus for the district
including interior renovations and expanding the dining hall
"We're out of space in our dining hall - our freshman class eats in the practice gym on the bleachers," Grimes said
The district would also fund upgrades to its septic systems
and expand the existing awning for buses to accommodate more buses
ensuring the district's investment in the fleet lasts longer
Grimes said the district has to wait 90 days after the Election day
but it would take about three years to complete every project on the district's to-do list
probably what we would turn loose first on just trying to get all that stuff out of the way so that we can tie into the new buildings," Grimes said
Why now?Grimes said it's because of the Leprino Foods factory that was recently built in the district's area just east of Lubbock
"That factory is valued so highly that they would basically pick up at least 50% of all these improvements - that's just how much valuation there is in that factory," Grimes said
Grimes said now is the time to do so because the factory will depreciate over the years
meaning their contributions will also shrink
"To get the max contribution from these recent industrial improvements
we really need to pass this now; otherwise
construction costs will go up and their contribution will go down," Grimes said

Grimes slammed the pervasiveness of beauty messaging in everyday pop culture
expressing concern over how it will affect her and Elon Musk’s daughter Exa Dark Sideræl
Grimes is worried about her daughter’s future
She took to X
“Do any other women feel like ur being choked to death on beauty culture?”
The singer went on to note how she’d been listening to what she described as a “super bro mens podcast” which usually gives her “laughably misdirected” ads when she instead received an ad for Sephora
“Can I go somewhere where someone isn't shoving ‘DONT YOU WANT TO BE BEAUTIFUL’ down my throat,” she added
“I'm getting like radicalized just out of pure desire to not have to engage with this sick notion of beauty that follows me like a wraith.”
And in a follow up message
Grimes worried about how Exa might be affected in the future
“The insidiousness of what our culture does to young women is insane,” she wrote
“I feel enraged knowing I won't be able to protect my daughter from this
All the large tech and media companies are complicit in this.”
While the “Genesis” singer didn’t name her ex—one of the United States’ biggest tech moguls—as part of her criticism, Grimes has previously called out Elon over his choices to bring their children into the spotlight (including X Æ A-Xii’s viral visit to the White House’s Oval Office)
“I have tried begging the public and my kids dad to keep them offline
and I've tried legal recourse,” Grimes wrote on X March 13
“The state of my children's lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day
It's insane to me that theres[sic] no way to deal with this.”
Grimes has been locked in a legal dispute with Elon since 2023 when she filed a petition to establish parental rights following the pair’s 2022 breakup after four years together
"I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives," she continued
"but I don't even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it tbh."
News reached out to reps for Musk at the time but did not receive comment
And after her son’s February visit with President Donald Trump went viral, Grimes reflected on the concept of fame
“I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere,” she said in an interview with TIME published Feb
“I think fame is something you should consent to

The book also stated that around Father's Day 2022
off-again couple welcomed a child named Techno Mechanicus
Though Grimes would prefer other salient details be kept private
"I have tried begging the public and my kids dad to keep them offline
and I've tried legal recourse," she shared on social media in 2025
"The state of my children's lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day
It's insane to me that theres no way to deal with this."
In 2022, Business Insider published court documents that stated Elon welcomed twins with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis in November 2021
He also seemingly weighed in on the report on X
"Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis
A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far."
Walter Isaacson wrote in his 2023 biography Elon Musk that the twins' full names are Strider Sekhar Sirius and Azure Astra Alice
On Feb. 28, 2024, Elon and Shivon welcomed their third baby together. The billionaire confirmed the news in June 2024, telling Page Six
"All our friends and family know," adding
Roses are red, violets are blue and on Valentine's Day 2025, conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair had a little sharing to do
“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father,” the Elephants Are Not Birds author wrote on X Feb. 14 of her son Romulus
in honor of Rome’s legendary first king and founder
“I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child's privacy and safety
but in recent days it has become clear that the tabloid media intends to do so
“I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment,” she continued
I ask that the media honor our child's privacy
Weeks after her rep called on Elon to “publicly acknowledge his parental role with Ashley,” she accused him of cutting his child support payments for the baby
prompting him to address the matter on social media
“I don’t know if the child is mine or not, but am not against finding out,” he wrote in a post on X March 31
I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year.”
She'd actually had a chance to pocket even more, an April Wall Street Journal article alleging that Elon's staffer Jared Birchall offered Ashley $15 million and $100,000 a month in child support in exchange for her silence about her baby
“I don’t want my son to feel like he’s a secret.”
They were inspired to share the news while marking their third child's first trip around the sun
we felt it was better to also just share directly about our wonderful and incredible son Seldon Lycurgus," she wrote on X
With the Sixers officially eliminated from the playoffs
I ask the fans for their thoughts and questions
The Sixers, currently 23-54, have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. They also currently sit in the fifth spot for next month's NBA draft lottery
After a nightmare of a season there could be a beam of light at the end of the tunnel
I asked the fans for their questions and thoughts for my final Sixers mailbag of the regular season
In a season that has already been a nightmare
a scenario in which the Sixers lose their draft pick (top-six protected) to the Oklahoma City Thunder would be the ultimate doomsday for the organization and its fans
One of the few glimmers of light to come from this disaster of a season is the hope that the Sixers retain their draft pick in a loaded draft class
In the scenario that the Sixers do not get their pick
a lot of questions will have to be asked within the organization
What would the Sixers’ immediate plan be for the 2025-2026 season
Do the Sixers try to offload Paul George and Joel Embiid and fully lean into a rebuild
What would the cost be to get off of those contracts
A lot of questions that I — and I don’t even think the Sixers — know the answer to right now
would be to retain Quentin Grimes on a long-term deal
Grimes has blossomed in his opportunity with the Sixers and shown that he is capable of being much more than just a 3-and-D guy as he was relegated to in Dallas and New York
The first question I think the front office should ask themselves is how they best optimize Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain and try to build out the rest of the roster to fit to their strengths
What do you think Quentin Grimes role will be if sixers keep their pick and they have a healthy roster next season
Grimes has been a revelation for the Sixers ever since they acquired him from the Mavericks at the NBA trade deadline
Grimes has had the best season of his career and has likely played himself into a sizeable new contract this summer as he enters restricted free agency
22.0 PPG4.9 RPG4.3 APG38.5% from three61.0 TS%
Grimes not only has the highest usage rate of his career
but he’s also done it on some of the best efficiency of his career
which they currently sit at 64% odds to do so
then you’re adding another high-profile young player to the roster who will likely garner a lot of minutes and touches
I believe the Sixers will target a forward or potentially a center depending on where their draft selection falls and who is available
I do not think that will affect Grimes’ role
if the Sixers do have a fully healthy roster next season
that would obviously change things for Grimes from where they are now
Grimes has shown he’s far more capable than just standing in the corner and shooting catch-and-shoot threes and attacking closeouts
I foresee Grimes’ role next season being one of two things — the first being the starting shooting guard in the backcourt alongside Maxey
the second being the sixth man and first guy off the bench
Grimes can take on the tougher nightly guard assignments defensively
while being able to play both off and on the ball as Maxey can do both of those things as well
As the sixth man Grimes could lean even more into a creation and scoring role as a microwave go-to guy while also still providing a positive impact on the defensive end
Grimes could be one of the leaders for Sixth Man of the Year or form one of the better starting backcourts in the NBA next to Maxey
If Embiid and George are on the team and healthy
all the better as the Sixers would have no shortage of scoring options and floor spacing
In the scenario that all these things fall into place the Sixers could be looking at a sharp and swift turnaround back towards the top of the Eastern Conference next season
if the sixers do get flag what is this teams ceiling
The dream offseason for the Sixers starts and ends with winning the NBA Draft lottery and acquiring Duke star do-it-all forward Cooper Flagg
who I have gone on the record proclaiming as the third-best overall prospect I have ever scouted dating back a decade
would change the fortunes and outlook of the Sixers’ franchise overnight
The ceiling for the Sixers in the immediate and long-term would be winning the NBA championship and the ceiling for Flagg would be All-NBA player and a future MVP of the league
Flagg is one of the most flawless prospects to enter the NBA this century — a legitimate two-way superstar who can take over games with his scoring
Thinking of an immediate future of Flagg plugged into a lineup alongside the likes of Maxey
McCain and Grimes — and potentially Embiid and George — is downright euphoric
The 18-year-old Flagg would sooner rather than later become the face of the franchise and one of the poster boys of the NBA and the next generation
We can only hope the lottery and basketball gods smile down on the Sixers like they did in 2016 and 1996
Cooper Flagg will be a top 10 NBA player before the end of his rookie extension. There is no such thing as too much tanking if it gets you Cooper Flagg pic.twitter.com/d0BPT0rale
the Dallas Mavericks were the laughingstock of the NBA due to one man's move
For the final two months of the regular season
Nico Harrison decided to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis
Harrison had concerns with Doncic's conditioning
and he thought the best action plan was to trade him in the middle of the year in the season after he was third place in MVP voting
He thought that the Mavs would be better off without him
except for Patrick Dumont (who isn't a basketball mastermind to begin with)
Dallas plummeted in the standings and ultimately ended up missing the playoffs after losing in the second round of the Play-In Tournament to the Memphis Grizzlies
The Doncic trade destroyed an entire era of Mavericks basketball due to Harrison's insistence on trading him
but another move of Harrison's at the trade deadline has panned out horribly as well
Dallas gave up the better player in the deal while also losing an extremely valuable second-round pick, but Harrison didn't see it that way. He believed that Martin was the better player in that deal, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Especially when taking into account how dominant Grimes was for the Sixers
and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from downtown
Grimes was on an absolute tear during his time with the Sixers
and the newest NBA rankings reveal just how special he truly is
In FanSided's NBA 99 update, Grimes was ranked as the 76th-best player in the NBA
as he truly took the NBA by storm over the final two months of the season
and it shows how badly Harrison messed up by trading him
Grimes showcased that his offensive game was much more advanced than anyone gave him credit for during his stint with the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons over spurts during his time with the Mavs
He wanted to acquire a player who he thought would be an elite wing defender for their hopeful playoff run in Martin (although Grimes is an outstanding defender as well)
and this trade will haunt the Mavs for years to come if Grimes develops into a star and Martin doesn't pan out in Dallas
76 ranking would make him the third-best player on the Mavs (if only going off the rankings)
as he would only trail Davis and Kyrie Irving
Grimes would have been the perfect player to re-sign this summer and keep for their future
and he was ready to contribute for the Mavs right now
Harrison knew that his team was going to lose tons of self-created offense with Doncic gone
and Grimes was one of the only players on the team who could generate his own offense consistently
Harrison being set on winning the NBA Finals as soon as possible and trading the better and younger player in the Grimes-Martin swap is confusing to say the absolute least
and Mavericks fans' eyes will be glued to Grimes' trajectory to see just how badly they lost this trade
Harrison's bets against young guards have not worked out for him over his time as the Mavs' GM (Jalen Brunson and Luka Doncic)
and Grimes is in contention to join this list

This unease is because agentic artificial intelligence opens the door to use by threat actors that could result in more powerful
This scenario was documented in a recent blog post by Roger Grimes (pictured)
data-driven defense evangelist at KnowBe4 Inc.
titled “Autonomous Agentic AI-Enabled Deepfake Social Engineering Malware is Coming Your Way!” Grimes makes the case that the security industry is already seeing expanded use of AI in attack vectors
and it will be only a matter of time before agentic AI comes into play
“We’re absolutely seeing AI come in a big way
with 70% to 90% of social engineering attacks now seeming to have some indicator that AI has been involved,” Grimes said
we’re seeing just an explosion of agentic AI
that the whole malware hacking model is going to be really heavily agentic AI.”
Grimes spoke with theCUBE’s Dave Vellante and Jon Oltsik at the RSAC 2025 Conference
SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio
They discussed the impact of AI on the cybersecurity community
The security researcher makes the case that AI’s ability to create believable, realistic deepfakes will allow attackers to successfully target entire industries, employing knowledge and keywords that will avoid suspicion. Much of this will be fueled by vulnerabilities already seen in the large language models themselves
talks with theCUBE about the impact of AI on the cybersecurity community
“These AI bots are going to be able to look at the industry
use industry vernacular and terminology with people,” Grimes explained
“This AI bot is going to know how to perfectly respond
We’re already seeing indications that they’re testing it
Every good LLM seems to be jailbroken like every single day
There is a flip side to this sobering scenario
and it involves the use of agentic AI to defend against attacks
Security practitioners can leverage autonomous technology to improve patching capabilities and automate human follow-up
“Agentic AI is the idea that you send out this autonomous bot [and] it analyzes this device,” Grimes said
“It already has the parameters to know what should be patched
maybe that it has to do a backup first to do testing
and we’ve got a ton of AI and agentic AI.”
a true measure of success or failure will be the data
This means finding the right set of metrics that accurately paints a picture of the security landscape
I think we need to use the data,” Grimes said
“We need to make sure we’re measuring the right thing … your decrease in cybersecurity risk in a measurable way
meaning that you’re actually getting less breaches [and are] less likely to be breached
‘Am I more or less at risk this year than last year or the previous time period

The stakes haven’t been this high since Jimmy Butler’s free agency and you know how that went
There’s at least a chance to get this one right
If Quentin Grimes plays just amazing enough to win a game or two more, and it costs the Sixers their 2025 NBA Draft pick
and then the team doesn’t even bring him back in free agency??
I wouldn’t blame any fan who simply checked out after that
Many New York and Dallas fans on X have been busy self-soothing by vocally dismissing this shocking Grimes explosion as mere garbage time stat-padding. But for those who have been watching on a nightly basis recently (or those who’ve read what our Greg Frank concluded upon further review of this very topic)
Based on the Kansas (same as Joel Embiid) product’s staggeringly rapid ascension towards the NBA’s most recent top performers list
it all begs the questions: will the Sixers steer this tank the right way and next
will managing partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer be willing to shell out major cash if that’s what it takes to retain Grimes this offseason
Our Bryan Toporek took a look earlier this March at whether or not the Sixers could afford to re-sign the soon-to-be restricted free agent this offseason
The 76ers possess the right to match any offer Grimes — a 6-foot-4 shooting guard with the 6-8 wingspan — may fetch on the open market
Teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons pose the biggest threat
Grimes has been a consistently stalwart defender throughout his career
Texas native is teasing fans with signs of potential stardom — all at the ripe young age of 24 years old
According to Yossi Gozlan of thirdapron.com
Maybe Oubre opts in [to is 2025-2026 salary with Philadelphia] and [Andre] Drummond opts in
maybe you can put those salaries together [and trade for] a $20M player
Talked with @YossiGozlan about the Sixers salary cap outlook in re-signing Quentin Grimes a few weeks agoThe organization absolutely cannot let Grimes walk away this summer pic.twitter.com/yCZELG7d2T
Toporek noted that teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons could potentially even offer up to roughly $25M annually for Grimes this spring — forcing Daryl Morey and Elton Brand into some very difficult decisions — as the team’s front office will soon look to fill out a roster around an already pricy Big 3 of Tyrese Maxey
But would Harris and Blitzer back up the Brinks to keep the team’s newest stud if Morey and Brand wanted to
Like it or not, they’re going to try to compete next season. And Grimes
may very well wind up even bumping one or two of that Big 3 down a peg on the 76ers’ pecking order
It’s crazy to even muse about this idea but here we are
Bizarro world with an almost Linsanity-like heater
Now I know what some of you are thinking..
Morey will have landed an absolute goldmine of riches by trading away Caleb Martin and a future second-round pick for a two-way dynamo; but then Grimes will play well enough to cost them a top-five first-round pick
and then ownership will get stingy and allow him to walk for nothing
That specter of agony is unfortunately a very real threat fans must prepare for
Morey and Brand may dread the idea of having to build a contender while facing restrictive apron penalties and hard caps intended to make executing future trades nearly impossible for the highest salaried franchises
The scariest part about this version of Quentin Grimes? He's maintained his elite defensive impact while compounding his offensive usage. Tonight he has 37 (12-20) points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block against the NBA's second best defense.pic.twitter.com/tIa5U4cPrb

People act like Thibs didn't love the Defense and natural shooting form of Quentin Grimes. He did.Unfortunately Thibs isn't the "Salary Cap Guru" because that's the job of Leon Rose.Unfortunately Quentin Grimes was traded because of an inspiring contract by acquiring Bojan.… https://t.co/7CnM9TbPtu pic.twitter.com/WOjb8G7X21
My man is averaging 34.5 points per game over the team’s last four games. And he’s still a ballhawk on defense who has now developed under three of the NBA’s best defensive minds in Tom Thibodeau, Jason Kidd and Nick Nurse. The former Knick and Mav has frankly been better than what the New York Knicks hoped Mikal Bridges (acquired by Leon Rose for five first-round picks and one first-round pick swap!) would be this season
QG was retained for Martin and a second-rounder (though the team was later forced to send a second-rounder Dallas’ way because of Martin’s injury)
What a fleecing — making the Mavs’ intentionally parting with Luka Doncic
Kristaps Porzingis and Grimes in just a couple seasons one of the most nightmarish slews of squander perhaps not even Bryan Colangelo could muster
But it could all go south for Philadelphia
There are two extremes right now and they’re just about as far apart as you get in sports:
Door A: the Sixers lose enough games to earn a top-five NBA Draft pick (including the chance to select and/or trade future star Cooper Flagg) and also pony up to keep Grimes in his RFA
they win a few more games than Brooklyn or Toronto down the home stretch
their pick conveys to the odds-on favorite to win it all
and then Grimes walks because they didn’t want to match his salary
The best possible road in a world of sports devoid of sure things is simply trusting the process

How the Raptors haven't been investigated yet is beyond meThey once again sat their best players in crunch time of a close game and blew a 9-point lead 4Q to Portland. Barnes and Poeltl played 28 and 25 minutes, respectively. pic.twitter.com/g50BlDd9Uu
Perhaps Nurse can make up for his share of the blame when he allowed Embiid to continue playing in Golden State now 13 months ago. To begin, he might have to limit Grimes’ minutes substantially. The team’s refusal to do tank well (like OKC’s Sam Presti has done very well now) could cost the team dearly, as Toporek argued (very persuasively).
perhaps fans will continue rooting for other teams well beyond the final 10 ballgames
A significant traffic shift is planned for April 1-2 at the intersection of A.W
traffic will be shifted to the north side of the roadway to facilitate construction on the south side
Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to avoid the area if possible
The work is part of the Gattis School Road Segment 3 project
which will widen the roadway from four to six lanes
The project is expected to be completed by early fall 2026
