On Sunday, May 4, 2025, three zodiac signs experience a turn of fortune. The Half Moon is similar to a New Moon, in terms of being a signal that we are halfway there and need to keep going. During the Leo Half Moon, we have the optimism on lock
We will see this thing through all the way
the good fortune of a Leo Half Moon comes in just in time
We recognize that we've been on the fence with a particular decision
we know we're not going to be sitting on that fence for much longer
We show the universe that we are open to having good things happen to us
and the universe is all too happy to provide exactly what we need
This is nothing less than a grand experience
and it couldn't have come at a better time
even you’ve wondered if the payoff is coming
It’s as if the universe waited for you to be ready
No more delays, no more self-doubt. You know what you want, and the Leo energy gives you the extra boost of self-confidence to go after it full force
It’s not a lucky break; it’s your courage finally cashing in

You’ve been weighing your options, Virgo, but you’re also tired of spinning your wheels. The Leo Half Moon on May 4 cuts through the overthinking and lights a fire where you need it most
This energy reminds you that fortune favors the brave
and you are braver than you’ve been giving yourself credit for
What looked like uncertainty yesterday now feels like opportunity
This is a cosmic green light disguised as a gut instinct
and you are most definitely paying attention
The shift you feel on this day isn’t just emotional
The universe starts meeting you halfway because you finally took that first real step

Long before the words quiet luxury were ever uttered
The Row established itself as the archetype of anonymous chic
When Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen launched their brand The Row in 2006
the goal was to create the perfect T-shirt
It’s safe to say that the mission has been accomplished and then some
The Row has become synonymous with effortless
In fact, the name of the label itself is rooted in sartorial excellence, paying homage to London’s high-class Savile Row, the British road known for producing impeccably tailored men’s suiting and exceptional fabrics. Over the years, that same attention to detail married with a love of simple silhouettes has carried over from clothing and into The Row’s coveted collection of handbags
many of The Row’s luxurious styles offer a no-fuss attitude that we’ve come to love from the brand
we take a deep dive into all of the need-to-know silhouettes to add to your closet
The Row’s India bag, new for 2025, feels like an instant classic. With its softly structured silhouette, rolled top handles, and subtle padlock accent, the India toes the line between heritage elegance and modern minimalism. Offered in an array of rich hues and sizes (from petite to plus-size carryall), it’s quickly becoming the next must-have for collectors of the brand.
For a more architectural option, there’s the Devon. Introduced in late 2023, this bag is The Row at its most precise: think clean lines, sculptural shape, and an unembellished surface that lets the craftsmanship shine. The top-zip closure, structured handle, and optional shoulder strap make it as functional as it is beautiful. Available in mini and medium sizes, as well as a clutch version, it’s a power move in handbag form.
Meet the Marlo, The Row’s slouchier answer to the (no-longer-in-stock!) Margaux. This under-the-radar tote offers the same effortless elegance but with a more relaxed frame. Its pliable structure and exaggerated size make it the kind of bag you can toss everything into—and still look polished.
Meet the newest bag from The Row, which arrived this fall/winter 2024 season, The Blake. Think of Blake as a slouchy, roomy tote bag but with a shoulder strap—genius! Constructed with grained calfskin leather, an exterior back pocket, and a removable interior zip pouch, this bag’s defining feature is a belt buckle-like trap, which allows you to shorten and lengthen the handle. Plus, a neat little tab helps to keep the Blake closed. The buckle comes in a gleaming silver for a subtle glinty touch.
For the fall 2023, The Row gave us the Dalia–the slicker, more polished, bigger sister to its ’90s bag. Featuring a zipper that lines three of this trapezoid-shaped bag’s four sides and a spaghetti-thin shoulder strap, the Dalia is beyond elegant. Its glossy goatskin leather fabrication adds to the sumptuousness of it all. The Row’s site bills the Dalia as an evening bag, but we’d argue that she’s appropriate for all-day wear.
With the Edith Bag, which arrived in the fall of 2023, The Row gave us its first proper barrel bag—The Row continues to mine the 1990s and 2000s for inspiration! Defined by a fully cylindrical shape, the Edith bag features two top handles, a top zipper, and a leather zipper fully crafted out of calfskin leather. At the moment, the bag comes in only four shades: an inky black, a bright red, a chalky white, and a deep navy.
The Row took design to the next level with its Half Moon bag. The curvy silhouette is ergonomically designed to fit snug under the shoulder. Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski are just a few of the many celebrities who are proud owners and constant wearers of the sleek design. And if you’re thinking it’s just a bag of the moment, think again. This one has been around for nearly 10 years now, making its initial debut in 2014.
Count on The Row to make a subtle carryall feel exciting. With a capacious interior and short yet wide straps, this bag is the epitome of casually cool confidence. The Idaho bag comes in durable cotton twill or Italian leather, and a detachable pouch on the inside will keep those small essentials tidy.
slouchy Banana large leather crossbody bag
More than five years ago, The Row’s Slouchy Banana bag made its debut in the label’s spring-summer 2019 collection. And it continues to be a favorite, thanks to a hand-free crossbody design that has malleable curves (similar to a banana) that hug the body when worn slung over the chest. Take your pick from durable canvas or calfskin leather in neutrals.
Slouchy Banana Large leather crossbody bag
Timeless isn’t always the antithesis of trendy. The Row checked both boxes with the release of its ’90s bag. The nostalgic design feels like a staple that a supermodel would have worn just before the Y2K era, and that retro silhouette continues to be a favorite among today’s It girls, like Kendall Jenner.

“If you look on the coastside and throughout San Mateo County
finding affordable housing is very difficult,” said Supervisor Ray Mueller
“It’s just a really exciting project both for what it means for our community and what it means for farmworker housing in the state.”
The homes are manufactured by Skyline Homes
a company specializing in factory-built mobile homes based in Woodland
the homes are trucked to the site in Half Moon Bay to be installed in the new community
about two-thirds of the site’s infrastructure
including the laying out of new roads and placement of utilities underground
which should open to farmworkers by June 16
initially only included 28 homes on the site
“After we identified the lot with the city of Half Moon Bay
we quickly did an assessment and realized it could accommodate even more homes,” he said
Officials collected $16 million in federal, state and local funding, including at least $6 million from the county’s own budget to fund the project
Approvals for other housing developments for farmworkers are moving their way through the city and county. Just last June, city leaders approved a 40-unit affordable housing project for very low-income senior farmworkers
despite receiving appeals from locals who sought to block the project because it could lead to more traffic and have impacts on parking

The Half Moon Bay City Council has approved plans for a proposed hotel at 1200 Main Street in Downtown Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County
The project will bring over a hundred hotel rooms to a former auto dealership after nearly a decade of review
Greg Jamison of RGJC South LLC is the project sponsor
The City Council unanimously approved the hotel in spite of a recommendation for denial by the city’s Planning Commission
The project has been under review for nearly a decade
The City of Half Moon Bay has adopted the Environmental Impact Report and determined that plans for the 129-key hotel have been approved
and monitoring plans were made as a condition of the approval
The EIR had been informed by over a hundred comment letters submitted in 2022
Hyatt Place Proposal stoops overlooking the footpath
The proposal will create 102 rooms across 66,270 square feet
The project will dedicate two acres of the five-acre property as open space habitat restoration and a natural buffer area
The site plans allow for the potential development of around 16 dwelling units along Seymour Street in the future
AXIS/GFA Architecture and Design is responsible for drafting the plans
The illustrations show a Farmhouse Modern design language imbued across the complex
influenced by the oceanside city’s rural and agricultural character
Facade materials will include wood board and batten siding
The five-acre property is located at the south end of Main Street
Future guests will be less than a mile from the town center and a roughly 25-minute walk from Poplar Beach
Construction is expected to last around a year and a half from groundbreaking to completion. Speaking with Coastside News
the developer shared his plan to start construction within the next five years

Traffic in HMB is often gridlocked on summer weekends
It’s best to avoid driving as much as possible
I’d like to think a more beautiful hospitality-inspired location would have been possible
Especially in a town where so little gets built
bur its bureaucracy (both state and local) is ridiculous
This long ‘review’ process is typical of CA
Anyone with a Superior Court filing fee can stop a project in its tracks
If someone finds a bug or a plant that only ‘researchers’ have ever heard
a project is stopped for two years at least
the project comes to a grinding halt until it is determined whether the bones are those of a long dead native American that no-one knows or has ever heard of
I sent in a comment decrying turning farmland into suburbia instead of infilling in the city
My recent comment posted to this story should have been posted to the one on suburban sprawl along Silver Creek road
If this plan includes townhomes/condos for sale and not just rental units
Hard to “nurture community” if the residents are just tech workers living in the Bay Area for a few years before they move on
If the plan includes townhomes/condos for sale and not just rental units
Hard to nurture community if they residents are just tech workers living in the Bay Area temporarily
Make sure the Developer create a Local Hire Policy to ensure opportunities are afforded to Small Local Construction Contractors and San Mateo local hire Policy to ensure opportunities San Mateo residents in the Building Trades work on the Project
too many commenters here worry about ‘climate change’

CA – Half Moon Bay has a new venue for community fun and activity: a beginning line dancing class offered through Half Moon Bay Parks and Recreation
led by local dance enthusiasts and community leaders Hilary Stamper and Carol Hunter of Coastside Country
the class has already outgrown its original venue
with 60 participants registered for the six-week series—an incredible testament to the enthusiasm for country dance on the Coastside
Enrollment in the full series is waitlisted
first met 16 years ago with Coastside Green Mother’s Club and have been deeply involved in the community ever since
and Parks and Recreation Commissioner with the city
while Carol has been a reporter for the Half Moon Bay Review
the regional commissioner of Coastside AYSO
and currently works as an associate program manager for Healthy Living at Stanford University
Their shared love for dance and community engagement led them to create Coastside Country
a platform dedicated to bringing people together through movement
“It is so special to be able to share an activity we love with the community that we love,” said Carol
“Line dancing has the ability to bring people from all ages and ideologies together
We are thrilled to bring this experience to the Coastside.”
“I love how line dancing makes dancing so accessible to so many people who otherwise feel shy to dance in public
By taking a lot of the thinking out of the equation
people can enjoy moving with others in a less self-conscious way,” added Hilary
“Plus it’s a great workout bundled together with a country music flash mob
We’re beyond excited to see so many folks showing up.”
Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a complete beginner

Ayudando Latinos A Soñar (ALAS) founder Dr. Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga poses for a portrait at the ALAS office in Half Moon Bay, California, on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024. Hernandez-Arriaga founded ALAS in 2011 to support the Latino community in Half Moon Bay. (Juliana Yamada/KQED)This story was reported for K Onda KQED, a monthly newsletter focused on the Bay Area’s Latinx community. Click here to subscribe.
On a rainy morning a few weeks before Christmas, Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga arrived at California Terra Garden, a mushroom farm in Half Moon Bay, with about two dozen staff and volunteers from the nonprofit Ayudando Latinos a Soñar
The group emerged from the Farmworker Equity Express Bus
carrying bags filled with handmade tamales
Christmas gifts and groceries to give out to farmworkers
A priest and a musician played Christmas carols in Spanish
Hernandez-Arriaga donned a green Santa hat to match her green hoodie, which read, “Our veggies are Moon Raised.” The 53-year-old, with bright pink lipstick, imparted the cheerful vibe of the event, a welcome contrast to the history of this farm as the site of a mass shooting in January of 2023.
ALAS brought aid to workers at California Terra Garden for years before the shooting and has continued
Hernandez-Arriaga founded the organization in 2011 with the mantra “cultura cura,” which means “culture cures.”
Everything ALAS does — from distributing basic necessities
putting on events and offering immigration services
music classes for kids and adults and mental health counseling — is infused with Latinx culture to empower the community
Hernandez-Arriaga never imagined how vital the healing part of the group’s mission would be after a mass shooting, which thrust Half Moon Bay’s farmworker community into the national spotlight and exposed the decrepit living conditions hundreds of farmworkers are forced to live in
farmworkers in Half Moon Bay have contributed to the region’s economy with their labor but were largely left out of the broader community
“[Latinos] are present in the economic workforce
We’re present in the job industry,” she said
“Farmworkers here are putting food on the tables for our community
Mothers are caring for the children of the community here
We’re not present in the way of cultural citizenship
When traditions are really alive in the community and there are spaces to bring us together
that creates healing and that centers healing and pride and joy and visibility in a collective way.”
I met Hernandez-Arriaga in the fall of 2023 when I reported on a program ALAS created to bring accordion classes to farmworkers as a form of music therapy
The arts are often treated as just a “tradition or custom,” she said
but it really is what’s known in psychology as “cultural sensory intervention.”
“Cultura is our medicine,” she said
“This is not something that I’m developing or that we’re seeing as new.”
Hernandez-Arriaga’s background is in social work and counseling
She earned her master’s in social work at Our Lady of the Lake University before moving to the Bay Area nearly 25 years ago to work as a social worker for incarcerated youth in Santa Clara County
She has since earned a doctorate in education from the University of San Francisco
She moved to Half Moon Bay in 2002 with her husband and three daughters — one now 20-year-old college student and 18-year-old twins
She volunteered as a counselor for young people and began to notice a familiar condition — kids feeling embarrassed about their heritage and like outsiders in their community
similar to what she felt growing up in rural Texas
Both of her grandfathers were lifelong farmworkers
Her mother picked cotton and went to segregated schools
Even though she was an award-winning high school student
she felt that she had to be ashamed of her Mexican roots
“I felt the slow death of the loss of my culture
the loss of being proud of who I was,” she said
“I grew up with a lack of connection to cultura
“I realized after several years that this community of Half Moon Bay was
suffering the same experiences that I had growing up in Texas: a lot of racism
Hernandez-Arriaga’s comments made me think about what representation really means
BIPOC communities talk about wanting to feel seen
but true representation goes further than that
celebrated and respected as integral members of the community
Her response was to start a nonprofit that would address the needs of the community from food to cultural pride. ALAS’s operating budget grew to $5.3 million in 2024, up from $232,652 in 2018.
‘We need to change living conditions,’” she said
As it turned out, ALAS was already working on a housing development. The group partnered with Mercy Housing, a nonprofit developer, in 2022 to build senior housing on a city-owned lot in downtown Half Moon Bay. The project, known as 555 Kelly
calls for 40 apartments in a five-story building with a community center on the ground floor
Hernandez-Arriaga thought that the outpouring of outrage and concern over farmworker housing would translate into urgency for 555 Kelly
the project was delayed by community opposition
and it came to a really surprising halt when the planning commission and so many in our community said
We do not want farmworker housing — or we do want it
but not here in our downtown space where you’re proposing,’” she said
“Why are farm workers always hidden in the fields
Why can’t we have them downtown walking to their medical appointments
Criticism of the project included boilerplate opposition to development — the building is too tall and doesn’t have enough parking — but there was also significant pushback against the community center and communal kitchen on the ground floor
to create a sense of community for the building’s residents
Half Moon Bay’s planning commission and city council approved the project last June

elegiac documentary attempts to address that question through a portrait of Kinan Azmeh
New York-based clarinetist and composer and his reflections on home and the Syrian uprising turned into war
Scheffer follows Azmeh over several years as he attempts to navigate this crisis of identity and purpose
travelling the world for concerts with other world-class musicians (including Yo-Yo Ma)
and developing his own unique style of improvisational composition
Through collaborations with fellow displaced artists

Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line are teaming up to rebrand their Bahamian private destination as "Relaxaway
Half Moon Cay" and load it with more features
including a pier to accommodate Carnival's Excel-class ships
The Carnival Corp.-owned lines expect to complete some of the enhancements by summer 2026
with work on remaining projects continuing through the end of that year
The partners will develop the north side of the destination with a new pier that can accommodate their largest ships
island-themed bars and a shore excursion pier
The existing development on the south side will get a new beach club
Lounging areas will be expanded and cabanas added
A new tram service will make getting around the island easier
guests will continue to arrive via tender boats from the cruise ship
In between the plazas will be over one mile of white-sand beach
The lines said all upgrades will be designed "with nature in mind," including architecture that complements the island's authenticity
Holland America Line president Beth Bodensteiner said the island's south side
where HAL has visited since Half Moon Cay opened in 1997
"will remain the secluded paradise our guests are accustomed to and a marquee destination for almost every cruise visiting the Caribbean
The new beach club and refreshed food and beverage spaces will embrace and preserve the island's pristine beauty while enhancing our award-winning experience."
In addition to upgrading Half Moon Cay, Carnival is opening Celebration Key
There will be cruises that call at both private destinations
