Voters approved more than $1 billion in bonds for the construction of new schools and the expansion of existing schools in Austin-area districts
Hays CISD voters passed money for buses with seatbelts and campus technology upgrades while rejecting money that would have been used for a stadium expansion
Approval was overwhelming for a new high school in Dripping Springs ISD
in addition to tech upgrades for staff and students
The district's student enrollment is expected to nearly double in the next 10 years across all grade levels
Hays CISD asked voters to pass multiple propositions to address this anticipated growth
Prop A totals about $499 million and is the largest proposition in the bond package
It will pay for expanding and building schools to increase capacity across the district
Some funds would also be used to install artificial turf at middle schools
purchase new school buses with seatbelts and equip career and technical education classes
Prop B totals over $396 million and will fund a fourth high school in Buda set to open in 2029
Prop C totals over $6 million and would have paid for a stadium expansion at the proposed new high school funded by Prop B
Prop D totals nearly $51.4 million and will fund the construction of four outdoor multipurpose activity centers to be used for fine arts and athletics classes
Prop E totals $16.2 million and will fund technology upgrades at all campuses
The district is looking to address growth after seeing a 61% increase in student enrollment in the last decade
Dripping Springs ISD placed two propositions on the ballot
Prop A totals about $399.7 million and will fund the construction of a new high school expected to open for the 2028-2029 school year
The proposition will also help the district renovate other schools
purchase new school buses and retrofit old buses with seatbelts
Prop B totals about $2.6 million and will fund technology upgrades for teachers
'We’re thrilled to have him back': Stephenson activated from ILHays (hamstring) placed on 10-day IL as corresponding moveMay 2nd
But following an eight-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville, Stephenson was back at Great American Ball Park on Friday, serving as the DH and batting seventh in the Reds’ series opener against the Nationals
“We’re thrilled to have him back,” Francona said
Stephenson appeared in 138 games last season
delivering 46 extra-base hits and catching 127 games
Asked what he missed most while he was out
I haven’t really felt anything since I’ve been back swinging
After two rainouts in Louisville, it was tempting for Stephenson to declare himself ready, but he benefited from the extra time. And with the Reds' catching duo of Austin Wynns and Jose Trevino performing well behind the plate and producing offensively
“Could I have come up and competed and done the best I could
“But to go get the extra three games of at-bats
Stephenson batted just .107 in eight games at Louisville
but in the three games leading up to being activated
he walked five times and fanned just twice
I’m seeing the ball well,” Stephenson said
“These past couple games have been the best that I’ve felt leading up until now.”
The Reds will keep three catchers for the time being
Francona said the plan at least initially will be for Stephenson to DH against left-handers and catch against righties
Wynns and Trevino have helped make that plan a little easier for the Reds skipper
losing one of your top guns,” Francona said
In a corresponding roster move Friday, the Reds placed Hays on the 10-day injured list
who's batting .365 with five homers and 13 RBIs in 13 games
tweaked his hamstring while running the bases and scoring in the sixth inning on Monday
“He’s actually doing really well,” Francona said
“There’s a decent chance that he can come off when it’s time
The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list Friday and activated catcher Tyler Stephenson from the IL
The move involving Hays is retroactive to Tuesday, one day after he tweaked his left hamstring while running the bases in the sixth inning of Cincinnati's 3-1 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals
batting .365 with five homers and 13 RBIs in 13 games
An All-Star in 2023, Hays is a career .264 hitter with 73 homers and 261 RBIs in 592 games with the Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies and Reds
opened the season on the injured list with a left oblique strain
he batted .258 with a career-high 19 homers and 66 RBIs in 138 games
this marks Hays' second stint out with injury in 2025
having missed the start of the season with a calf strain
Once again needing to replace Hays in the lineup
the Reds will have a challenge replicating his early-season production.

It is a small sample size, yet one that displayed the Reds offensive potential if fully healthy. The team is 8-5 overall in games that Hays plays, averaging seven runs per game. This does include the 24-run outburst against the Baltimore Orioles
and the Hays-led Reds average 5.5 runs per game.
all four times the Reds have been shut out in 2025 have come when Hays has been injured
they need to find ways to win regardless of Hays' status
When the Reds signed Hays to a one-year deal in January
they knew the durability concerns that came with him
he played in only 85 games and had a long injury even before that
the team made sure to have plenty of positional flexibility in case of this exact scenario
neither of them can provide the same spark Hays had so far in 2025 at the plate
The fact of the matter is the Reds face an uphill battle in replacing Hays' production on offense in the coming weeks
this is a test the team must figure out a way to overcome to prove to be playoff contenders in the long haul.

He’s dealing with a left hamstring strain
His IL placement is retroactive to April 29
With Stephenson returning and backups Jose Trevino and Austin Wynns hitting well
Cincinnati will carry three catchers on the roster for the time being
Stephenson has plenty of experience at first base
if the Reds want to plug him into that mix
and he has more than enough bat to justify being deployed as a designated hitter
The 28-year-old bounced back from a down showing in 2023 to hit .258/.338/.444 (112 wRC+) with 19 home runs in 515 plate appearances last year
Stephenson is a career .267/.343/.427 hitter (106 wRC+)
This will be the second IL stint of the season for the 29-year-old Hays
who’s been on an otherworldly tear when healthy enough to take the field
He started the season on the IL with a calf strain in this same left leg but has decimated opponents with a .365/.431/.712 output between the two IL trips
Hays has already clubbed five homers in just 58 plate appearances
and he’s walking at a career-high 10.3% clip against a manageable 22.4% strikeout rate
Cincinnati Reds Austin Hays Tyler Stephenson
Glad to see QB1 back even though the other guys held the fort excellently
Hate to see Hays will be out a spell though
Or are they still keeping him at 1B/DH to protect his arm
McClain and Stephenson to step-up until Hays is back
Reds 1B are currently 30th in the MLB in WAA; 12th in DH and 2nd in C
Stephenson helps this somehow…but exactly how will be up to Francona

CINCINNATI — Catcher Tyler Stephenson is back with the Cincinnati Reds
but the team is losing outfielder Austin Hays for at least a week
The Reds activated Stephenson (left oblique strain) from the injured list and put Hays on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain
Both Stephenson and Hays began the 2025 season on the IL
Hays missed the team’s first 16 games with a left calf strain
while Stephenson has yet to play this season
Hays made an instant impact when he came back from the IL
notching four RBIs in a victory over the Seattle Mariners
Hays hit .365/.431/.712 with five home runs
sharing the team lead with Elly De La Cruz
Hays last played in Monday’s victory over the St
he tested out his hamstring before the game against St
Hays said he was feeling better but was being cautious
Hays spent significant time on the IL with leg injuries
and at times exacerbated those injuries by pushing through them
The team was being cautious not to repeat that mistake
Stephenson played in eight rehab games for Triple-A Louisville
going 3 for 28 (.107) with a home run in his time with the Bats
He started five games behind the plate during his rehab assignment and served as the designated hitter in the other three games
the Reds’ catching duo of Jose Trevino and Austin Wynns has combined to hit .347/.391/.594 with eight home runs
The two combined to give the Reds the best batting average among catchers in all of baseball
the second-best slugging percentage and third-best on-base percentage

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain and activated catcher Tyler Stephenson on Friday
who is batting .365 in 13 games with five home runs and 13 runs batted in
injured himself while running the bases during Cincinnati’s 3-1 victory on Monday over the St
The Reds chose to retroactively start Hays' stint on the injured list on Tuesday
Stephenson has been sidelined by a left oblique strain since the regular season began
He is a big part of what we want to be doing,” Reds manager Terry Francona said before Cincinnati hosted Washington on Friday night
he gives us that veteran right-handed bat.”
Stephenson — who had career highs with 26 doubles
19 home runs and 66 RBI in 2024 — will share catching duties with Jose Trevino and Austin Wynns
signed to back up Stephenson behind the plate
Wynns is hitting .394 in 12 games as Trevino’s backup
Francona said having three catchers on the roster is “probably not going to be something that lasts forever.”
Francona rejected the idea of Stephenson playing first base
Texas - Hays County Criminal District Attorney Kelly Higgins announced today that Hays County District Judge Sherri K
Tibbe sentenced 33-year-old Kevin McLean to a total of 60 years in prison on April 29
McLean entered a plea of “guilty” to six counts of possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 10 years on each count
Judge Tibbe ordered that the sentences run consecutively
McLean was a teacher at a middle school in Hays County when he was arrested in 2022
The child pornography was found through a search of McLean’s phone during an investigation into alleged inappropriate behavior toward students
His wife had called the police to report finding inappropriate communications with several female middle school students on his phone
Law enforcement seized McLean’s phone and interviewed the students he had communicated with
it was determined that McLean had been grooming the female students by sending them nude photos of himself and trying to convince them to send him pictures
The investigation further revealed that McLean had sold or provided some students with alcohol and illegal narcotics
including THC vape pens and prescription drugs
No child pornography involving students from the middle school was located
and there were no reports of sexual contact with a student
The case was investigated by the Hays County Sheriff’s Department and the Austin Police Department
Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hansen prosecuted the case
“We hope this verdict provides healing and closure to the families whose lives were impacted by this defendant’s abuse of trust as an educator in our community.”
"Students and their families should be able to trust that school is safe
We will hold anyone who violates that trust accountable.”

If it weren't for Austin Hays' most recent injury
there's a good chance that McLain would be finding a seat on the Reds' bench
Matt McLain has been given an extremely long leash so far this season. The Cincinnati Reds second baseman broke out in a big way during the first week of his 2025 campaign, but after a brief stint on the IL, McLain has been absolutely atrocious at the plate
Hays is on the IL for a second time this season
A calf injury sidelined the Reds' newcomer at the outset of the 2025 season
and Hays has since landed on the IL again; this time with a strained hamstring
But if Hays were healthy and producing like he had before his injury
Reds manager Terry Francona would have no choice but to swap out McLain for Santiago Espinal or Gavin Lux
or bump the former first-rounder down in the batting order
both Espinal and Lux are filling in for Hays in the outfield
though both players are much better suited to play second base
McLain is hitting an inexcusable .136/.269/.182 with a 34wRC+
If McLain's last name was Fraley or Benson
he'd be riding the pine right now or battling through his slump at Triple-A
But as a former first-round pick and player who's proven he can hit at the major league level
McLain has received the benefit of the doubt (so far)
While McLain is scuffling at the dish, the duo of Espinal and Lux are thriving. Espinal has forced his way into the Reds starting lineup and is hitting .484/.543/.581 with a 213 wRC+ going back to the Reds' series in Baltimore. During that same timeframe, Lux is hitting .341/.442/.545 with a 170 wRC+
If you were curious about McLain's line
he's hitting .136/.239/.186 with a 22 wRC+
Players go through slumps, and Francona has been very complimentary of his infielder during this extended period of futility. "He’s just going through a little bit of a tough time...You can tell he’s not entirely comfortable," Francona said
Perhaps he could fight through this slump in the No. 7 or No. 8 hole, you know? McLain has been hitting second behind the Reds' leadoff batter all season. The Reds' No. 2 spot in the lineup is the worst in the league with a .187/.310/.261 slash line and a .571 OPS
Allowing McLain to play through this slump and figure things out is the appropriate strategy
but Francona needs to push him down in the lineup
Spencer Steer dealt with a similar issue earlier this season
and after hitting seventh for most of the season
the Reds first baseman has been steadily moved up the batting order
It's time for McLain to receive the same treatment

You're going to have to do better than that
Hays school district voters on Saturday approved $962.3 million in bond projects for local schools
including the construction of a fourth traditional high school and the purchase of 30 new school buses with seat belts
which calls for $498.9 million to renovate campuses and buy new buses
The $396 million Proposition B to build the new high school received 56.8% of the 2,566 votes cast
which calls for $51.2 million tobuild four covered
outdoor athletic and fine arts facilities at district high schools
narrowly passed with 50.1% of the 2,565 votes cast
The $16.2 million Proposition E to upgrade technology got 60.5% of the 2,560 votes
The only school bond measure voters rejected was Proposition C
to expand the sub-varsity stadium at Bob Shelton Stadium
The measure got 47.8% of the 2,568 votes cast
The Hays district’s student population has grown 35% since 2014 – from 17,205 to 23,235 students – and could reach 45,019 students by 2034
according to district and Texas Education Agency projections
The bond projects approved by Hays voters also included Proposition B
which calls for the construction of a fourth traditional high school with a 2,800-student capacity
planned for Main Street and Turnersville Road in Buda
the district will build an 18th elementary school and initiate planning for a 19th primary campus
In addition, the bond money will purchase 30 buses with seat belts. The measure's approval comes about a year after a deadly crash that killed a Hays County prekindergarten child during a field trip from Tom Green Elementary School to the Capitol of Texas Zoo in Bastrop County
The 2011 bus carrying the 44 children and 11 adults didn’t have seat belts when a concrete pump truck crashed into the school vehicle and it flipped over
all 111 of the Hays district’s regular route buses had seat belts
It plans to use 22 of the 30 new buses for daily routes and eight for activities and back-up use
Proposition A also will fund expansions to Hays and Lehman high schools and Small Middle School; additional classrooms at Hemphill
Kyle and Tom Green elementary schools and athletic upgrades
Proposition E will replace outdated network
power and phone systems and purchase tablets and laptops for on-campus use
he was more concerned about finals than his health
I just thought I had a weird cold,” he said
super tired and I couldn’t concentrate in class
I just figured I’d push through the week.”
He made a plan to stop by the campus clinic that Monday morning
‘Hopefully I can get some medication to get me through finals week
and then I’ll worry about it when I get home,” Hays remembered thinking
What he didn’t expect was to be told he needed to go to the hospital immediately
“They couldn’t see my heart on the X-ray,” he said
“There was something along my trachea and mediastinum
Hays had drifted from his faith during middle and high school as his competitive hockey schedule pulled his family away from regular church life
Just help me get through the mental side of this.’ That was the moment of surrender,” he recalled
Doctors initially believed Hays had lymphoma — a curable cancer with a strong prognosis
But then came a crushing update: “They told me it wasn’t lymphoma
the biopsy results came back from a clinic in Iowa
“They told me the cancer was lymphoma and was curable
The only two options were: either a Mayo Clinic MD pathologist got it wrong
I choose to believe something changed,” he shared
“The chemo itself almost killed me several times,” he said
It was during that time that the community around him stepped in
and he really helped me walk through it,” Hays recalled
They gave me the same responsibilities as the other men
“I would take quizzes and exams while getting chemo,” he said
college is only going to take me four years with cancer and all.”
Hays is pouring his energy into service and building something bigger than himself
He volunteers regularly with the CU Boulder campus ministry
Scholastica and remains active with the Knights of Columbus
“The hardest part of my cancer journey was seeing how it affected friends and family
and also watching other kids go through it; I was under pediatrics through most of my treatment
and watching kids suffer is really difficult,” he shared
“That October while I was in remission but still actively receiving treatment
we dressed up and handed out candy to all of the kids that were also in the hospital.”
This is where he founded his most ambitious effort: Hospital Homies
a nonprofit that ministers to both children and their families
and watching him love people really inspires me
the name ‘Hospital Homies’ popped into my head,” Hays said
The nonprofit is now a registered 501(c)(3) dedicated to visiting children in hospitals and supporting their families
“We don’t hide that we’re Christians and Catholics,” Hays said
Visiting the sick is a Corporal Work of Mercy
And sometimes those visits open the door for deeper conversations.”
“I’m so excited to come back in 20 years as an alum and see what these students are doing,” he said
Devin’s next venture is a startup business: a brick-and-mortar and online shop focused on collectibles
“The idea is to create a stable income that can help fund Hospital Homies,” he said
so this is how I hope to fund my dreams of service.”
Devin sees a transformation in himself far deeper than the physical
hockey was definitely my idol,” he admitted
“I’m extremely grateful to have gone through this because it changed my perspective on everything
It taught me about the immense hurt in the world
but it also taught me about the extreme grace that Christ brings about through that hurt.”
And it’s that grace Devin hopes to share for the rest of his life
For his own profound journey of faith-filled surrender to the Lord’s will and his deep devotion to serving others

Austin Hays' left hamstring was "tender" after a first base-to-home sprint in the sixth inning during the previous night's win, Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona told media members on April 29
Hays received an MRI on April 29 but the results weren't known as of around 4 p.m
'Not just about getting hits': Reds manager Terry Francona on sitting Jeimer Candelario
Hays started the season on the 10-day injured list (calf) and debuted April 15
Hays was the Reds' designated hitter in the opener against the Cardinals
with Santiago Espinal sliding into left field
Jake Fraley returned to the starting lineup in right field after sitting out the opener due to a right quadricep contusion he suffered in Denver during the Colorado Rockies series finale
Francona also announced that Christian Encarnacion-Strand would receive a second injection for his lower-back soreness
The hope is the second injection will conclude his fight with his ailment
Encarnacion-Strand was placed on the 10-day IL April 17
Jeimer Candelario is going for an MRI on April 29 night for a lower back issue he’s been dealing with
Hays proving to be the spark the Reds' offense neededApril 26th
DENVER – If the Reds’ offense went into the first full month of the season like a lamb, it’s going out of April like a lion. Questions about run support and lack of production have faded. The addition of Austin Hays is a big reason
Two home runs by Hays gave the Reds two leads on Saturday, including the one that gave them the final go-ahead run during a 6-4 victory over the Rockies at Coors Field
"We’ve been a different team since he’s been back," Reds manager Terry Francona said
It was a 3-3 game in the top of the sixth inning when Hays led off by driving Antonio Senzatela's 3-2 pitch over the fence in straightaway center field
Hays also provided Cincinnati with a 3-2 lead in the fourth when he hit Senzatela's 2-1 pitch to left field for a leadoff homer
Because of a left calf strain that happened at the end of Spring Training
Hays opened this season on the injured list and didn't debut until April 15
he is batting .386 (17-for-44) with five homers and 11 RBIs
Hays is the first player in Reds history to record at least 15 hits, five homers and 10 RBIs in his first 11 games. Not a bad early return for a free agent who was signed to a one-year, $5 million contract on Jan
“I think it just starts physically," said Hays
who has seven multihomer games for his career
there’s a level of confidence that goes into that
You don’t necessarily have to try to pull the ball to hit a home run
You know you’re feeling good and strong enough to drive the ball out of the ballpark to center field or right-center field.”
Without Hays, Cincinnati's run production was often scarce – including a 35-inning scoreless streak and three consecutive 1-0 losses. Since he joined the lineup, it has had six games when it has scored six or more runs, including last Sunday's 24-2 romp at Baltimore
Hays is also hitting cleanup most of the time behind No
The Reds' shortstop extended his hitting streak to 10 games with two singles
pitching to De La Cruz knowing that Hays is behind him because he’s dangerous," Francona said
continued his hot stretch with a two-run homer to left field in the second inning that gave the Reds their first lead
In his past seven games – all on the road – Marte has three homers and 12 RBIs
In a bounceback from a rough outing last Saturday at Baltimore
Reds starter Hunter Greene provided a quality start against Colorado
he allowed three runs and seven hits without a walk while striking out eight
Greene lost his leads by allowing home runs and Hays picked him up
man.’ Then he came through again," Greene said
Two add-on runs came in the ninth inning because of some great efforts
De La Cruz worked an 11-pitch at-bat and delivered an RBI single through the right side for his second hit of the game
Spencer Steer also hustled on a grounder to third base for a two-out RBI infield single
Sign up to receive our daily Morning Lineup to stay in the know about the latest trending topics around Major League Baseball
"Steer got down the line on that ball
plus he dealt with other issues – including a kidney infection after being traded to the Phillies
He has already equaled his homer total for all of last season
“It was hard for me last year," Hays said
"I dealt with some soft tissue stuff early
“The thing that comes with that is being in and out of the lineup and having to take a few days off of not hitting
‘Is this OK?’ You’re trying to feel it out if you’re back yet.”
There has been no such issue in 2025 for Hays

Hays keys offense in triumphant Reds debut: 'We missed him'April 16th
CINCINNATI -- Austin Hays was smiling and excited inside the Reds’ clubhouse on Tuesday afternoon. For the first time during the 2025 regular season, Hays was in Cincinnati's starting lineup after missing the first 16 games with a left calf strain
"I finally get to wear the Reds’ uniform," said Hays, a left fielder who started his first game as the designated hitter. "This is like my Opening Day. It’s cool it’s on Jackie Robinson Day."
Hays' performance in the Reds' 8-4 come-from-behind win over the Mariners made his debut that much sweeter
including a three-run home run against Luis Castillo during a four-run fifth inning that put Cincinnati ahead
"It doesn’t always work that quickly when a guy comes back
but I think we just missed him," Reds manager Terry Francona said
have won four straight games and six of their last seven
they are above the .500 mark for the first time since May 2
The club has been banking on Tuesday's transactions changing that trajectory
Besides Hays being activated from the 10-day injured list
so was second baseman Matt McLain after he had been out since April 5 with a left hamstring strain
"Having Haysie back helps a ton," said Gavin Lux
Obviously getting him back and Matty helps a ton."
Hays, 29, was the lone major position player the Reds added via free agency when he signed a one-year, $5 million contract on Jan
"He can do damage in the middle of our lineup
We’re all excited for him," McLain said
A 2023 All-Star for the Orioles, Hays endured a down 2024 season with Baltimore -- and with the Phillies, after he was traded -- because of injuries. They included an early-season left calf strain and a life-threatening kidney infection near the end of the season
Hays appeared healthy and driven to have a rebound season with his new club
He batted .310 with three home runs and a team-leading 14 RBIs over 16 spring games
Following the final game of camp last month, Hays felt tightness in his calf that worsened ahead of Opening Day
During his three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville
he hit a home run and felt good about where his swing was
I felt really comfortable in the box," Hays said
When you know your swing is in a good spot
It’s about building a good game plan with our guys and our team here and all buying into it."
McLain hit three homers over his first eight games and had some well-hit balls
despite batting .214 before going on the IL
"I was just glad his stride looked good to me.”
To get the lineup completely whole again, the Reds just need the return of Tyler Stephenson
who has been out since Spring Training with a left oblique strain
could begin a rehab assignment with Louisville as soon as next week
Seattle had a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Lux hit a two-out RBI single
and Hays followed with a game-tying RBI single into left field that scored McLain
The Mariners retook a two-run lead in the top of the fifth inning on Dylan Moore's second homer of the game
a two-run drive to left field off Nick Lodolo
Castillo walked his first two batters before Lux drove in McLain with an RBI single
A throwing error from left fielder Randy Arozarena put runners on second and third before Hays lifted a 1-1 fastball to center field for the three-run homer
I thought I missed under it," Hays said
Hays became the third Reds player to notch four RBIs in his team debut since it became an official stat in 1920
“We got two good players back," Francona said
"They’re going to help in a lot of ways.”
Louis Cardinals and provided a couple of updates on Austin Hays
Mike Petraglia shared Francona's update on X.
Hays tweaked his hamstring while scoring from first base on the Noelvi Marte triple in Monday's game against the Cardinals
Candelario spoke up today regarding a lower back issue
Encarnacion-Strand will get another injection for his back
The Reds plan to make a decision on Tyler Stephenson after Thursday's game with Triple-A Louisville

With student enrollment expected to nearly double in the next 10 years across all grade levels, the Hays Consolidated Independent School District is asking voters to pass a nearly $1 billion school bond in May
“We're already behind because of the growth that none of us could foresee,” School Board President Raul Vela Jr
said as the board finalized details of the bond at a meeting in January
so voters don't have to pass the whole thing; they can choose to pass funding for certain projects and not others
It’s the largest proposition in the bond package and would pay for expansions at the following schools to increase student capacity or address the need for more space:
“The bigger the classrooms … that becomes really difficult for some teachers
which eventually hurts our student outcomes,” school board member Johnny Flores said
are truly going to give relief to many of these teachers and these students.”
Prop A would also fund the construction of a new elementary school in the district's Northeast for about $78.7 million and the design of another elementary school for about $4.6 million
All middle schools would get artificial turf installed to decrease the district’s water use
and several middle and high schools would get weight room expansions
“ We have athletes that are getting injured because they are not properly trained in a proper weight room that is the proper size,” board member Courtney Runkle said
“It really is a safety issue that our coaches deal with on a daily basis.”
The proposition also includes $7 million to buy new school buses equipped with seat belts. This is part of the district’s effort to improve safety after a deadly school bus crash last year
Another $2.2 million would fund career and technical education improvements
including a new burn tower and breathing apparatus packs for the Firefighter Academy program
Prop A funds would also help maintain school buildings across the district
That includes replacing any needed mechanical
plumbing and safety systems and maintenance on roofs
Prop B totals over $396 million and would fund a fourth high school in Buda set to open in 2029
The new high school would be designed to fit 2,800 students
Prop C totals over $6 million and would pay for the expansion of the stadium at the new high school in Buda as a second place to host varsity competitions
Hays CISD currently uses the Bob Shelton Stadium as the central
Prop D totals nearly $51.4 million for the construction of four outdoor multipurpose activity centers
These facilities would be used for fine arts and athletics classes
Hays CISD officials said the activity centers would be covered
Every projection you look at in the next 10 years
it's just going to get more hot and more dry,” Flores said
“All of our high school teams have had to go to 6 a.m
practices because of that heat during the late summer and fall.”
One would be built at each of the following high schools:
Prop E totals $16.2 million and would fund technology upgrades at all campuses
computers and laptops for students to use on campuses and replacing old
outdated or broken sound systems in schools
The proposition would also fund new photocopiers and phone systems for all campuses
District leaders said the bond will not result in a tax rate increase

Hays begins rehab assignment with Triple-A LouisvilleApril 12th
CINCINNATI -- A key part of the Reds' offense has reached a big milestone in his bid to return to action. Left fielder Austin Hays began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Friday, going 0-for-2 with a third-inning sacrifice fly in the Bats' 6-3 loss to Indianapolis
Hays has been out since the last day of Spring Training with a left calf strain
and he opened the regular season on the 10-day injured list
He went to work out and take batting practice with High-A Dayton on Wednesday
but [the game was rained out]," Reds manager Terry Francona said
As Louisville hosts Indianapolis through the weekend
Hays is slated to play in three of the four scheduled games
“He’ll play five to seven [innings in left field on Friday]," Francona said
"He will DH for nine [Saturday] and play the outfield on Sunday."
Hays, 29, signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Reds on Jan
he was one of Cincinnati's more productive hitters as he batted .310 with a 1.060 OPS
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain and activated catcher Tyler Stephenson on Friday
Stephenson — who had career highs with 26 doubles, 19 home runs and 66 RBI in 2024 — will share catching duties with Jose Trevino and Austin Wynns
AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb
The Cincinnati Reds have activated catcher Tyler Stephenson from the 10-day injured list
He will be taking the spot on the 26-man roster of outfielder Austin Hays
who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain
The Hays transaction is retroactive for April 29th
Tyler Stephenson has not played in a game this season with the Reds
In the middle of March he suffered an oblique strain and shut things down
He was not ready to begin the year and missed the first three weeks of the regular season before he was sent on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Louisville on April 22nd
Stephenson has been with the Bats over the last week-and-a-half
but he’s struggled to get things going
The ctcher has just three hits in eight games
Over the last three days he has walked five times and struck out just twice
but he’s also 0-11 in those three games
Cincinnati is going to carry three catchers for the time being
While Stephenson has been out the Reds duo of Jose Trevino and Austin Wynns have been outstanding at the plate for the club
Trevino has hit .324/.365/.544 and already has nine extra-base hits while striking out just eight times in 25 games
Wynns has played in the other 12 games for the Reds behind the plate and he’s hit .394/.444/.697
While he’s been limited to just 13 games due to injury
he was hitting .365/.431/.712 in the middle of the Reds lineup and when he first came off of the injured list in the middle of April he helped turn around a struggling offense
The earliest he will be eligible to return is May 9th against the Houston Astros
Austin HaysTyler Stephenson
Doug Gray has been covering Cincinnati Reds baseball since the 2006 season
Past bylines at The Athletic and a few other places I've forgotten and or cease to exist
At least this gives Tito Francona a full roster to work with
TS has looked a lot better behind the plate with a glove on his hand than at the plate with a bat in his hands
The numbers are close enough that it doesn’t seem to effect him if he’s Catching or DH’ing
His biggest variation is his SLG when he’s pinch hitting
regardless of whether he was catching or DHing
I’ve been waiting for the bat to come around
I’d guess they’d prefer to keep him rehabbing if Hays wasn’t injured
The calculation had to be would a 60% to 70% Stephenson be better than any other options currently in AAA
His last at bat yesterday gave me a slight glimmer of hope that he might be getting closer
He’s already in shape….that’s what rehab was for
Hays made a splash while he was in the lineup
Hays on the IL doesn’t become a repeated theme as the year progresses
If anyone is interested the FG top 45 Reds prospects is out
TySteve gets to DH (perhaps 1b) for a while
and at least to either of Trevino/Wynns cool off
even with the generally wasteful 3-catcher issue
Take more time now to get it right than repeated IL trips thru the season
Long term would be when Hines comes into play if he continues at or better than his current performance
Moving him to CF and leaving him there seems to indicate he is a long term project/ Perhaps it’s an effort by the Reds to manufacture an internal a Luis Robert Jr type player
he’s been heating up and is tied with EDLC for leading the majors in steals
I am thinking that the move to CF is a savvy way to increase his floor and value (ie a 4th/5th OF with speed
a big arm and some pop) while letting him still work on that ceiling of the prototype RF
but i will exercise caution stating that in these parts
We might also be into reading his CF play too much
as he is better there than Benson or Hurtubise
has been held back due to 40-man priorities (or so it seems)
I’m not sure why Hinds name keeps showing up
He’s a long term project at best IMO
Break glass in case of emergency type of guy
Learn how to make contact and stop striking out so much (especially at AAA-Level) then we can talk about a chance of bringing him up
I came to the conclusion early that the Reds would not fulfill their obvious top need in the offseason…power hitting OF
but otherwise I thought they saw a significant upside for Hinds within the next year or two
Otherwise there is no reason for what they did and didn’t do
If Rece is able to show appreciable upside for the last months this season
The Bull will be riding the wave…and maybe the team as well
Having gone through the failed expectations on Senzel and Aquino
I’m starting to have a bad feeling about Hays and availability
That’s got to be why he’s not still with the Orioles
I have already come to the conclusion he will spend more time on the IL than the actual MLB roster
In Hays’ first three years playing full time in the major leagues
Last year he played 85 due to a kidney infection
he played three years in full season ball and averaged 98 games in leagues that played 130-140 games
He had a 7-day IL stint in 2018 that went 9 weeks due to a stress fracture and ended in ankle surgery
he had a fractured rib and missed two weeks
one for a thumb injury and one for his hamstring
he’s played in 86% of his games until last year when he only made it into about 50% of them
rib fracture and somewhat standard muscle/joint injuries
Seems with his calf issue and now the hamstring
A player hustles and pulls a muscle/tweaks and we wonder if he is injury prone
A player doesn’t hustle and we criticize player
Hopefully it’s only a tweak like Mclain had and he is able to come off il May 9th
While I have been wanting 3 catchers lol… it seems calling up a outfielder is best option
If a player does all he can to be in condition and does not take careless risks
durability becomes a legitimate evaluation criterion
Yes – and just took a glance at Hays on BRef – nothing to indicate a chronic injury status
He doesn’t seem tightly wound and he’s not a speed/running type of player
barely informed opinion is that this should not be much to worry about
but I think Hays needs a big year in 2025 to establish that the medical issue is history
If he plays this year like he is worth less than $12m
then the Reds have a decision to make in the off-season
Alot of guys hustle and do not pop hamstrings though
Its not a “playing hard” question as much as its a “can his body handle the wear and tear” for a whole season
This team needs to add a legitimate big league quality outfielder and I feel they could be special this year
We know Lux wont hit .330 all year and Trevino will come back down to earth eventually
A couple of pulled muscles in the early part of the season (when there are a lot of cool
rainy nights) does not make him injury-prone
exceptionally conditioned athletes pull muscles
I dont think there’s any replacing Hays
This is when I’m thankful for a 162 game season
The forecast isn’t much encouraging for today and tomorrow to have play ball
I’m waiting for the Bats game to start which is evidently in a delayed start in Memphis
@memphisredbirds has posted 2:45 (Central Time) as the new projected start time but cautioned everyone to stay tuned on social media because the weather could still pose an issue
And they are playing in Memphis (345pm EDT/245CDT)
some names left off that are very surprising
I thought it was very heavy on very young potential after the top 10 or so
With Fangraphs it is also where they rank players in comparison to other sources
they rated Sal Stewart number 35 in the Reds system
i have a hard time taking them seriously at all
Trevino & Wynns are both 70~80 career OPS+ hitters
dWAR seems to like both of them more than Stephenson
it seems reasonable to ride the 2 of them at catcher with Stephenson at DH (or 1B) until Wynns and Trevino cool down
Wynns will be a big upgrade in L’ville over Banfield & Higgins
As long as Wynns makes it through waivers and someone doesn’t offer a larger amount of money to him to elect free agency over outright assignment
there are probably rules about officially contacting a guy before he declares as a FA but the information superhighway grapevine seems to get messages through around them
But at no point does Wynns elect to be a free agent or have the ability to negotiate with other teams
given his positive value as a solid backup C
he almost certainly wouldn’t get past step 3
I thought Wynns had 5 years of ML service but he only has 4
Wynns has been outrighted multiple times and as a 3 year MLB Service Time player
has the right to decline outright and select free agency
Page #110 (internal numbering) of the the CBA

Sounds like you have the final rule on this Jim
and agree – he will be claimed quickly if waived
SO – it will be very interesting since he will have significant (not outlandish) trade value
and even bad clubs value 2nd catchers while good teams need #3s
so it may be worth more than a random lottery pick to someone; say
I didn’t see the reference for 3 year rule after the 5 year rule
it wouldn’t get that far as he surely has value to other teams and would be traded or claimed
https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/designate-for-assignment
the CBA says that a player who has been previously outrighted can select free agency upon a subsequent outright assignment (no service time provision at all)
The gained benefit of 5 year status in outright situations is that the player can refuse the outright versus simply electing free agency and thus force the team to pay him (via release)
the 5 year guy still retains the right to elect free agency up front
Some of us were discussing this last week
I believe it is in a subsection of article XIX of the CBA “Free Agency”
It is no wonder teams often have an employee whose primary
function is knowing contract stuff like this and reviewing things before the team steps off a cliff
I think there are a lot of folks over valuing Wynns and there’s maybe a 50/50 shot at best he would be claimed when he hits waivers which is totally dependent on if there is a team in desperate need of a backup catcher at the time he is DFA
“- Do the Reds have a good shot at getting Austin Wynns and his split contract passed through waivers again if they DFA him when Stephenson comes back from the IL
I would lean toward expecting someone to claim him just because he’s been passed around waivers before and teams clearly like his glove and game-calling
but I wouldn’t have high extremely high confidence in him being claimed.”
I don’t think the Reds will mess with what they have going on with the catcher position
Think if the Reds had signed a DH in the offseason like JD Martinez
they’d have the same situation they have now with Stephenson anyway
So I don’t really think of it as rostering 3 catchers
I think of it as rostering 2 catchers and a DH who can also catch if needed
But Espinal being able to play corner OF as well as backup IF enables this situation
along Lux’ flexibility and Candy on DL
They have enough crossover position players to keep all 3 of Trevino
We don’t need a third catcher–especially one whose rehab has been awful to date
Should have brought up Hinds and let Stephenson keep working off the rust
Might be seeing more Espinal and Steer in the outfield
The .100 hitter (Stephenson in AAA) is having a good game
Just like the .200 hitter (Hays in AAA rehab) is having a great season so far
Caution against reading too much into rehab stats
Stephenson’s bat won’t replace his
Not sure Stephenson will see time at 1B though
Some different starting times with Flying pig marathon weekend and fireworks Friday
Tonight with the 610 start looks good for baseball but wet for fireworks
Tomorrow is just dreadful and looks like a wash out
Tread carefully on those derby bets in the mud
Late start sunday -410 with marathon in am
Logistics a nightmare for playing 2 on sunday though for that
Reds night game in atl and nats same in cleveland on monday
Reds may just play fri sun this weekend which would help stephenson and bullpen and starters and hays
A team can never have too many sun .200 hitters
especially hitters closer to .100 than .200
