HIGH POINT — With pricing uncertainty in the background due to potential tariffs, nobody knew how attendance at the April 26-30 High Point Market was going to shake out
there wasn’t as much of a drag as some might have anticipated
as those who came made it a point to ask more questions of their vendor partners
we heard a lot of positive comments,” Covington told the board
That optimistic feeling was echoed with anecdotal comments from most board members
building owners and other industry stakeholders
buyer company registrations were down 3.9%
but buyer contacts — individuals from the companies — was essentially flat
Non-stocking designer traffic was down 6.6%
while stocking designers represented a stronger segment
“Those retailers and those who stock product
we saw strong numbers there,” Covington said
international traffic was 14% off the fall’s pace
On the new buyer front, Covington said the market was 10 companies short of qualifying the same number of new buyers as the last market
“We should be in single digits because we qualify some folks on the last day,” she said
Among the dignitaries who toured the market included state legislators
North Carolina First Lady Anna Stein and the Ugandan ambassador to the U.S.
who was accompanied by a designer with a goal of furnishing the embassy in Washington
The funds that come from the state are being put to use
said Sunday was the busiest day for the Red Line and Green Line shuttles
Venable also noted that the market’s park and ride system is undergoing changes
it maintained spots at the old Oak Hollow Mall and near Davis Furniture
But Venable said Davis is looking to expand its footprint and will need to take back some of the space
so all marketgoers who use the park and ride service will need to use the Oak Hollow Mall location
as the 2,000 parking spots that the Market Authority contracts with High Point University

A High Point man is charged with operating a disturbing international child exploitation network targeting young people and vulnerable populations
the men are affiliated with a nihilistic violent extremist (NVE) network known as 764
defined as "a violent online network that seeks to destroy civilized society through the corruption and exploitation of vulnerable populations
Former FBI agent Chris Swecker said the alleged crimes were shocking
"I don't think you could come up with a more disgusting case and type of crime than this."
Both men held leadership roles in the organization
which operated between late 2020 and early 2025
the men face a maximum penalty of life in prison
the men and others produced child sex abuse material facilitating the "grooming
manipulation and extortion of minors," ordering victims to "commit acts of self-harm" and engage in "psychological torment and extreme violence against minors."
The content included "cut signs" and "blood signs" and encouraged children to cut symbols into their bodies
victims were encouraged to participate in self-mutilation
sexual exploitation of siblings and others
"These defendants are accused of orchestrating one of the most heinous online child exploitation enterprises we have ever encountered — a network built on terror
and the deliberate targeting of children,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said
The 764 network aims to achieve social unrest and the downfall of the current world order
“The allegations in this case are not only disturbing
they are also every parent’s nightmare,” said U.S

“We live in a world that our children can be victimized even in the perceived safety of their own homes by offenders located almost anywhere,” Barefoot said
Traffickers typically target unsupervised teens online
"They target these children and they know how to get to them," Swecker said
"They know the apps the can meet them on."
hopefully better than anyone else," Barefoot said

PHILADELPHIA — It’s almost a given Richmond will be a game away from the NCAA tournament on an annual basis
the Spiders have never played a full season and not advanced to a conference title game
so moments like Saturday’s 16-10 defeat of High Point in the Atlantic 10 final at Sweeney Field are to be savored
That’s especially the case a year after Richmond fell a game shy of the postseason
Daniel Picart and Joe Sheridan scored three goals
and Max Merklinger added two goals and two assists for the top-seeded Spiders (13-3)
They will play in their third NCAA tournament in the last four years and their sixth since debuting as a program in 2014
“It’s absolutely relief,” coach Dan Chemotti said
now we can breathe,’ because this is what it’s all for
Every team does so much during the year for this day
to hopefully have the chance to extend their season and go to the NCAA tournament
We’ve been very fortunate that we’ve played in a number of these championships
I guess maybe it’s a little greedy when you don’t go one year
So was the pressure Richmond applied to second-seeded High Point (7-9)
which got two goals and two assists from Ryan Hynes and 11 saves from Zack Overend
The Panthers had as many turnovers as shots entering the final two minutes and finished with 20 giveaways
but they choose points in time both in the ride and on the defensive side of the ball to extend a little bit,” High Point coach John Crawley said
It was exactly what we saw in the first game we played against them.”
Richmond won that matchup 11-6 on April 12
and the scrappy Panthers were prepared to take advantage of what opportunities they could generate against the Spiders this time around
Richmond seemed ready to pull away when it went up 6-3 early in the second quarter
but High Point got two back (including a man-down goal) to keep it close
Spider midfielder Gavin Creo milked the clock near midfield
only to charge toward the cage and fire in a goal with 6.4 seconds left to establish a two-goal halftime advantage
And when High Point closed within 8-7 in the third quarter
who also scored twice in the five-goal run to bust open a 13-7 lead
It was a career day for the athletic young midfielder
who had yet to score more than once in a game before Saturday but did not surprise Chemotti with his breakout effort
so he has some freshman moments,” Chemotti said
so maybe that’s why he played the way he did today.”
Defensemen Mitchell Dunham and Hunter Smith and long pole Tommy Stull each caused three turnovers for Richmond
which was in line to keep an opponent to single digits for the 11th time until High Point scored twice in the last 91 seconds
the Spiders allowed just 6.3 goals per game in seven games against A-10 competition
“[Defensive coordinator Paul] Richards just coaches us to the max every day
Richmond’s balance and discipline were on display throughout the afternoon
The Panthers’ greatest strengths — Overend and faceoff ace Luca Accardo (18 of 30) — helped keep them in plenty of games
they were still within a goal with 20 minutes to play
Crawley — a 100-point scorer as a player at Johns Hopkins and a former assistant at Colgate
Lehigh and Hopkins who is in his first season at High Point — knows a bit about what it takes to play into the second half of May
He sees Richmond creating problems for whoever it faces next weekend
“I think that’s a quarterfinal team — I think at the very least,” Crawley said
“I think our conference has proved this year to be a really competitive one top to bottom
to essentially be 7-0 in conference and to win that championship game so handily on the scoreboard
I think they are a really complete group.”
An NCAA tournament victory has been the Spiders’ next logical step for a few years
and there is a strong case Richmond is the best program in Division I without a postseason triumph
It nearly pulled off a first-round upset in 2022 at Penn and lost at Virginia in its most recent tournament trip in 2023
The latter team returned the bulk of its starting lineup
which only added to the misery felt after last year’s A-10 final loss to Saint Joseph’s
This group waited a year to return to the postseason and has big plans after Saturday’s celebration
“We definitely felt disappointed last year,” said Sheridan
who was named the tournament’s most outstanding player
Our goal at the start of the year was to win a tournament game

Several brands reported surges in attendance—outperforming not only their last year’s numbers
all of them had invested in marketing their story; they saw designers reward those efforts by showing up in droves to see the latest
It was a good reminder that while the event’s attendance goes up and down
each building and brand still has the opportunity to shape its own fate
Registration data on the retail side showed buyers out in force: While there were 3.9 percent fewer companies represented than at last fall’s event
individual contacts were only down 0.2 percent
signaling that the brands that did make the trip brought enough extra team members to bridge the gap
those buyers explored Market more adventurously than usual
looking for new manufacturing partners with less exposure to tariffs (more on that later)
A sense that the sidewalks felt wider this spring may also speak to the ever-expanding duration of Market
but designers and boutique retailers shopping for one-of-a-kinds or looking to get dibs on floor models arrived as early as Wednesday—and some of the biggest retailers touched down on Tuesday and were long gone by the weekend
leaving the rest of us to worry about the lack of crowds
Others relied on messaging to convey the unknowns
The most compelling example could be found at Rowe
which has traditionally offered more than a thousand fabrics—many of which come from China
Rather than restrict its offering or issue across-the-board increases
the company chose to create a volatility scale
sorting its program into low (domestic fabrics)
he stressed that his goal was to give buyers the clarity to make educated sourcing decisions
For domestic manufacturers—some of which may only need to regrade a few imported fabrics to reflect a shift in pricing—opportunities seemed abundant
One told me that the company had been inundated with retailers looking for new partners—people who came in sheepishly saying
“I’m so sorry I’ve never returned your emails
but I’d love to do business now.” (While domestic manufacturers seemed to relish a flood of new faces
most were approaching the influx with caution
The recent pandemic boom-and-bust is close enough in the rearview window that none were in the mood to rapidly expand
and most were only looking to take on new partners that would foster modest

HOLLYWOOD - SEPTEMBER 18: Members of Fleetwood Mac from left: John McVie
Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham on the SECOND ANNUAL ROCK MUSIC AWARDS
The masterpiece remains one of the most commercially-beloved and critically-adored titles of all time
The pop-rock band's hit-laden collection is one of a number of releases that has earned a constant presence on the Billboard charts
but this is an especially busy week for the project
it climbs higher than ever on one in particular
proving that there’s still an insatiable desire among fans to revisit the singles that turned it into a behemoth in the first place
Billboard only introduced the Top Streaming Albums chart a relatively short time ago
so classic releases and superstar musicians regularly reach new peaks as listeners turn to past favorites — sometimes turning them into streaming successes for the first time
Rumours jumps 15 spaces on the Top Streaming Albums ranking
That’s a new high point for the full-length
and since it’s the only title from Fleetwood Mac to ever appear on this tally
As it rockets up the streaming-only ranking
Rumours also climbs on four other Billboard charts
The title nears the summit once again on both the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums rosters
it also returns to the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart
which focuses on the bestselling releases in the U.S.
The collection is also rising on the Billboard 200
Luminate reports that in the past tracking week
Rumours sold 4,400 copies — enough to make it one of the top 10 bestselling releases in the country
A large number of those must have been on wax
as the collection reenters the Vinyl Albums chart at No
It’s the only list where the project had to return
since last week the chart was flooded with Record Store Day exclusives
As Rumours climbs the Top Streaming Albums list and reaches a new peak
“Dreams” is one of Fleetwood Mac’s most beloved cuts
It also inches back into the top five on the Rock Streaming Songs ranking
2025-Stump issued the following report about the spring 2025 High Point Market
“2025 was supposed to be the year for revival and growth in home furnishings: remember the saying: ‘survive to ’25
The initial harbingers of the Trump bump after the election
and hope for lower interest rates seemed poised to push our industry back into growth mode
and the stock market correction have complicated the picture…for now
“These concerns echoed throughout High Point this past week
and attendance seemed off-likely due to a mix of some international holdouts and certain retailers pulling out last minute (we also heard some cite Spring Break conflicts as putting a damper on attendance)
“Most CEOs still believe the underlying fundamentals support long term growth for home furnishings
and strong players are making talent and technology investments to take advantage of the uptick
