ExpandNathan Hernandez of Hinsdale Central returns a shot during the Hersey Boys Tennis Invitational Saturday
(Brian Hill/bhill@dailyherald.com/Brian Hill/bhill@dailyherald.com)
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Barrington sophomore Will Delach toted his rackets and towels and water thermos off the court after his last match at Saturday’s Pitchford boys tennis invite at Hersey
“Ate three bananas out there,” said Delach
smiling above three peels resting atop the tennis stuff in his arms in chilly
Delach, that’s who. One week after topping the singles field featuring Nos. 1 and 2 players at the Jay Kramer invite at Hinsdale Central, the Bronco excelled again, edging Hinsdale Central sophomore Barry Zhu 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 for the No. 2 singles title.
“I needed to dig deep,” said Delach, who relies heavily on heavy topspin groundstrokes to dictate points and exhaust foes.
He found himself down 15-40 while serving at 2-3 in the third set but earned an ad-in chance with a down-the-line forehand laser. Zhu got it back to deuce shortly thereafter.
They battled through three more deuces before Delach made it 3-3 via another resounding forehand winner off a short ball.
“Will,” Broncos coach John Roncone said, “plays such a physical, punishing style of tennis. He’s a fighter, just like Hadi is.”
Barrington junior Hadi Dossani reached the No. 1 singles final Saturday, taking on Hersey sophomore Matthew Sikorski, the fourth seed who had defeated top-seeded Shashwat Srivatsa of Fremd 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (8) in a double-knot-tight morning semifinal.
Sikorski trailed 5-1 in the third-set tie-breaker before winning 9 of the next 12 points.
A state doubles qualifier last spring, Sikorski smacked an ace to open the title match against Dossani and held serve. Dossani—talented and fearless, especially from the baseline— went up 2-1 and later broke Sikorski’s serve in the seventh game, paring the Husky’s lead to 4-3.
But Sikorski, blessed with the ability to either pound shots or carve effective slices to create a better opportunity to finish a point emphatically, won the next 2 games to secure the first set and exited the court as a 6-3, 6-2 victor.
“Variety keeps them off balance,” Sikorski said. “Overall, my game plan in the final was to pressure him often and focus on my serve.”
“Matthew,” Huskies coach Andy Walton said, “has been locked in, and he’s super competitive and composed. It’s hard going up against a player who has as many elements to his game as Matthew has.”
Reigning Class 2A state champion Hinsdale Central, under first-year coach Pete Alex (a Hinsdale South graduate), deployed a wealth of talent over the weekend, amassing 64 points to capture the team championship. Barrington (52) took second, ahead of Hersey (47) and New Trier (40). Conant, Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South tied for fifth with 39 points apiece, and Fremd, Stevenson and Oak Park-River Forest each netted 36 points to tie for eighth place.
Each of HC’s four entrants — Nos. 1 and 2 singles, Nos. 1 and 2 doubles —reached at least a semifinal round. Juniors Kyle McCain and Nicholas Marringa claimed the Red Devils’ lone title, solving Glenbrook South sophomores Shaan Harjani and Gavin Johnson 6-3, 6-3 in the final at No. 2 doubles.
“This is such a great invite, because it lets you know what’s out there, what you’re going to have to be ready for later this month (at sectionals and state),” Alex said.
HC senior Nathan Hernandez, fourth in singles at state last spring, took third at No. 1 singles Saturday, while Red Devils Bodie Teuscher/Winston Stangle bronzed at No. 1 doubles.

IL – The 900 block of Monroe Street is unlike most in Hinsdale
The village plans to hire an engineer to design a road project for the block between Ninth and 55th streets
"It's like the street that Hinsdale forgot about," Trustee Scott Banke said at a Village Board meeting
"Is there a reason why we're not doing storm sewers there and basically making it like every other street
I realize there's not an insignificant cost."
said the street appeared to be one of those "unimproved old township-style roads." During the design phase
the village would look at options for the street
"We'd really have to see how that impacts the budget," he said
"It's an unusual block where we have this open ditch system."
Officials identified other unusual areas that are similar to the 900 block of Monroe
They included The Woodlands subdivision northeast of County Line Road and 55th Street
which forms the northern boundary with Oak Brook

2025 at 2:40 pm CT.css-79elbk{position:relative;}Hinsdale Village President Tom Cauley said Tuesday he likes that a proposed housing development is code-compliant
IL – Something unusual has happened in Hinsdale: A residential developer is proposing code-compliant homes
developers typically come in with plans that are denser than zoning allows
Downers Grove-based Oakley Home Builders proposed seven houses for the property where the old Hinsdale Baptist Church
It's at Fuller Road and Oak Street in northeast Hinsdale
The developer paid nearly $3.3 million for the 1.7 acres in November
The houses are expected to range in price from $2.5 million to $3.5 million
higher than the $1 million median-valued house in Hinsdale
"I think it's a win for the village," Village President Tom Cauley said at Tuesday's Village Board meeting
"No one is asking to put a three-story skyscraper there."
Usually, he said, developers request smaller lots or put more homes on a particular parcel. Such has been the case with proposals for the Institute in Basic Life Principles property in northwest Hinsdale
"You guys didn't try that with me," Cauley told representatives of the developer at the meeting
a developer is supposed to make a small fraction of land available for parkland
so the village will get $109,000 in cash for parks
The board voted to change the zoning for the property to residential
which is for churches and similar buildings
The development next goes to the Plan Commission for a review of the subdivision plat

IL – A French restaurant is expected to open in the train station in downtown Hinsdale
Le Jolie – meaning "the pretty" – would offer oyster and raw bars
Its food is described as a "touch of coastal French with American ingenuity."
The restaurant would replace Casa Margarita
who was a partner for seven years at La Grange's Nicksons Eatery
Hinsdale leases out the space for Casa Margarita
but must consult with BNSF Railway before changing tenants
"We really feel like this building is positioned to serve a rhythm of commuters
locals and visitors alike," Baca said at Tuesday's Village Board meeting
Baca plans to install a door and specialty pickup window facing Hinsdale Avenue
He also wants to move the dumpster to make room for outdoor dining
the restaurant is required to offer breakfast
"They did not follow through on that," he said
"They opened (for breakfast) what for two days and then they closed it down."
Baca said his restaurant would offer artisan coffees and items such as ham and cheese croissants for breakfast
the restaurant would be more like a supper club
He hopes to open the restaurant in about a year

2025 at 12:32 pm CT.css-79elbk{position:relative;}The Hinsdale Village Board voted Tuesday for union contracts that mean raises for police officers and firefighters
IL – Hinsdale is increasing the starting salaries for police officers and firefighters
which an official said would improve recruitment
the Village Board unanimously voted for new union contracts for the police and fire departments
An officer with eight years of experience with the department is set to get $124,514
officers will get 3 percent annual raises under the contract
"I think everybody's happy with the outcome," Village President Tom Cauley said
"We want to make sure we get the best police candidates we can get."
A firefighter with eight years of experience will receive $112,156
Three percent raises are planned for the next two years
"We've had difficulty hiring new firefighters," Cauley said
I understand that a lot of you guys are working overtime
I don't think you really like to work overtime all the time."
He asked firefighters in the audience whether he correctly described the new contract
were killed in the deadly crash along with three others
IL – A Hinsdale-based conservative political action committee gave money to two candidates for the Hinsdale High School District 86 board in the recent election
The Concerned Parents PAC reported it gave $3,500 to Andrew Catton and $520.51 to Baron Leacock
It also donated $1,000 to the Downers Grove Township Republican Organization
This is according to the required quarterly report that the group submitted to the state Board of Elections on Tuesday
Leacock said he was working on his financial disclosures Tuesday night
He said the donation in question was received electronically as a personal contribution from one of the mothers at his son's school in January
"I have not received any donations from any PACs
unions or political parties to my knowledge," Leacock said in the email
I’ve refunded the contribution to avoid any confusion."
Listed as the committee's chairwoman is Hinsdale resident Kristina McCloy. She also manages the "Concerned Parents of Hinsdale" Facebook page
She was the parent who gave the $520 to Leacock
Last year, McCloy, a former Chicago Bulls cheerleader, asserted on the Facebook page that schools are hiding the issue of African American children attacking white children
who was appointed as a Downers Grove Township trustee in 2023
African Americans make up 4.5 percent of the township's population
In the April 1 election, Leacock won one of the available seats on the board
Republican candidates for Downers Grove Township offices lost
Last fall, the Concerned Parents PAC advertised a gala at a top-tier Chicago restaurant to support "our mission of fostering a brighter future for our children."
the committee had nearly $10,000 in its bank account

(Courtesy of Hinsdale High School District 86)HINSDALE
IL – The Hinsdale High School District 86 board on Tuesday decided to let go its director of equity and inclusion when his contract expires in June
the board voted unanimously against keeping Chris Biddix
It is unclear whether the board plans to keep the position
The decision was in light of the Trump administration's opposition to programs for diversity
couldn't be reached for immediate comment Friday
the board must discuss the elimination of a position in an open session
who previously worked for seven years at Pritzker College Prep
earned a bachelor’s degree in global studies and linguistics from the conservative Liberty University
a private Baptist school founded by Jerry Falwell Sr
The outcome of Tuesday's school board election may impact whether the board fills the 4-year-old position
In June 2023, the board voted 5-1 to hire Biddix at a starting salary of $112,000
Waters appeared to be against the position
In an earlier discussion at the June 2023 meeting, Waters brought up the school's controversies in hiring an anti-racist consultant over the previous two years
DEI has become a major target of conservatives
Trump's Department of Education has signaled a crackdown on DEI programs in schools
At a February 2022 board meeting, Waters, a conservative, backed up the idea of DEI
"(P)lease don't think this board is not committed to the importance of DE and I work," Waters said
"I encourage you to watch prior board meetings
please watch prior board meetings to understand what I just said."
He said his issue was with the district's leadership
who ran as a team with Waters in the April 2021 election
"The community doesn't seem to be aware of the fact that board members have been commenting on DEI issues and concerns for a while now," James said
"It's very clear that no one wants children to feel unsafe or unwelcome in the school
this board member would expect that any initiative that is brought forward would be inclusive to all students and all areas impacting DEI — race
2025 at 6:30 am CT.css-79elbk{position:relative;}Hinsdale officials said this week that a program that promotes preserving historic homes is working
IL – Hinsdale has seen a lot of takers since it launched its program three years ago for preserving historic homes
"You cannot deny the program has worked," Village President Tom Cauley said at a Village Board meeting
homeowners can propose things such as rear additions while keeping the historic character of their houses
the village gives grants and property tax rebates
building fee waivers and sped-up processing of applications
more bureaucratic process for proposals to tear down historic houses
the village earmarks a total of $50,000 for grants for improvements to historic houses
the village is on track to approve $40,000 of its $50,000 in grants
"It's a good thing when these incentives are being used
which everybody needs to be aware of," said Luke Stifflear
the village will likely have to push back some to next year
a trustee who previously served on the village's Historic Preservation Commission
said the larger point is that the renovations benefit the town as a whole
"So while it's not helping the village's bottom line
I think we should be cognizant that it is enhancing property values," she said
"Some people do not think we should be involved in this
He and others said they have heard owners saying the program convinced them to preserve their homes
"One of the benefits of this village is we don't have cookie-cutter homes," Cauley said
which I think enhances the attractiveness of the village."
2025 at 5:53 am CT.css-79elbk{position:relative;}Six candidates vied for four four-year seats on the Hinsdale High School District 86 board
IL – Four candidates appear to have prevailed in Tuesday's race for the Hinsdale High School District 86 board
three of the seven members of the Hinsdale High School District 86 board will remain
They are board President Catherine Greenspon and Asma Akhras
Jeff Waters is running unopposed for a two-year board seat
No one will have served longer than four years
After the last election, the board suspended Superintendent Tammy Prentiss during a closed-door meeting. In so doing, members broke the Open Meetings Act, as the attorney general pointed out in response to Patch's complaint
During that time, the board rejected teachers' proposed social studies changes, drawing the union's condemnation
Superintendent Michael Lach took the reins in July
Five of the six candidates live in the wealthier Central attendance zone
she will join one other board member from that zone
All six candidates oppose an attendance boundary change between Central and South
Some South residents support redrawing the line because South has half the students
meaning the school's course offerings are less
During a recent forum, all six candidates promised they would disclose to the public any closed-door discussion that violated the state's Open Meetings Act
At the same event, they were asked about the board's consideration of a nondisclosure agreement for members
Leacock and Mitha said they would not sign such an agreement
so there were qualifications to his answer
Patch asked candidates whether the district was teaching critical race theory
"In regards to ideologies being taught in the classroom
that is certainly a concern as evidenced by having a Director of Instructional Equity on staff," he said
"DEI is defined by this theoretical basis in CRT
so it’s incumbent upon the district to ensure there is not subject matter creep that degrades the quality of education
there is no metric or policy in place to govern this
Satchwell and Mitha said they were not aware of critical race theory
Marxism or other ideologies being taught in District 86
Leacock said he was unaware of any critical race theory at present in District 86
"Our district's role is to prepare students for success in higher education and life by teaching them how to think critically
This means students should understand various historical and contemporary perspectives while developing their own informed views."

IL – Incumbent Neale Byrnes is one of the four candidates for three seats on the Hinsdale Village Board
Here are his responses to the Patch questionnaire:
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government
sales and marketing to operations management for a multinational chemical company
Previous or current elected or appointed office:
The single most pressing issue facing the village is _______
the most pressing issues are to continue the work that’s been done to improve the Village’s infrastructure and remain ever vigilant about continuing to improve safety throughout the Village
A great deal of money was spent in the 2009 MIP to improve infrastructure
Many of these roads are coming up or will soon come up for re-paving and I will work with our Public Works Department to continue these road improvements as well as improve drainage and improve our water distribution system
the Village is undertaking safety reviews by a consulting firm and I look forward to seeing and evaluating the firm’s recommendations
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post
Matt Posthuma and I are running as a slate
We are current Board members and each served on a Village Commission before joining the Board
We are all long-time residents of the Village
are committed to do what is in the best interests of the Village
but focus on different areas in our work for the Board
Michelle focuses on parks and beautification
I do not know the positions of Carlos Aparacio
but note that he has only lived in Hinsdale since 2021 and consequently may not have a good sense of the character and priorities of the Village
he has not served on any village commissions which I feel is critical before serving on the Village Board
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job
Some of the accomplishments I can point to are as follows:
Are the village government's taxes too high
The Village is one of the few communities in the State of Illinois that has an AAA credit rating
It is a delicate balance to maintain a high quality of Village services and infrastructure
while limiting unnecessary expenses and minimizing increases in taxes and fees
The past few years of high inflation have been challenging
but we have kept Village taxes and spending under control
The Village continues to have cash reserves exceeding 25% of expenses
which is a key metric desired by the credit rating agencies
the Village finances are in excellent shape
What is your view of the village's maintenance of its infrastructure
33% of the roads in the village were judged to be poor or very poor with only 35% considered excellent
In 2024 68% were judged to be excellent with only 6% poor and none very poor
we need to continue to take care of our roads
Roads re-surfaced in 2009 will very possibly require re-surfacing soon
We’ve also made significant progress with improving drainage
New stormwater vaults have been installed to eliminate water pooling in areas previously prone to flooding
we are making a connection with Burr Ridge’s water distribution system which when complete will give us an alternate source of water should there be a problem with the DuPage County water pipeline (this system actually down for two days in January)
What is your assessment of the police department's performance
Chief King and his team work hard to keep us safe and are proactive in identifying places for improvement (e.g.
The Village is very fortunate to have them
Was the village right to provide incentives for owners of historical homes
Hinsdale is very unique in its inventory of historic homes
The Board has tried to give incentives to homeowners to preserve their historic homes without restricting property rights
Most of these incentives are zoning and permit relief
Modest financial incentives can show alignment with homeowners
but should not limit the financial priorities of the Village
Should the village allow video gambling or recreational marijuana sales in town
these are inconsistent with the character of our Village
State law requires towns such as Hinsdale to submit affordable housing plans
but the village is late by nearly a decade
The deadline to submit AHPAA plan is June 2025
The Village intends to comply with that deadline
Gated neighborhoods are generally not appropriate in a mature community with dense housing stock like Hinsdale
Should the village president and trustees take political contributions from village contractors or those with zoning or other matters before the board
Our slate is self-funding our campaign and is not taking any political contributions
Is there any reason you would not serve your full term of office
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions
Matt Posthuma and I are running for re-election as Village Trustees
and all three of us currently serve as your Trustees
We are long-term residents of Hinsdale and believe that raising our children in this vibrant Village is a privilege
We are dedicated to Hinsdale and will energetically work to provide a continued level of excellence and professionalism
it will be important to have an experienced Board who can provide knowledge
continuity and stability as we work together to make our Village an even better place to live

Weeks before the business filed for bankruptcy
IL – Fuller's Car Wash and Service Center in Hinsdale
did not appear to be headed toward bankruptcy before it filed for such protection in January – if court records are any indication
Recently, the Hinsdale business released financial information as part of its bankruptcy filing
including a Mercedes and a Cadillac Escalade
The information showed that Fuller's owes a total of $452,000 for 14 of the cars
The Fuller's name is on 19 car washes in the Chicago area
but the bankruptcy documents indicate the filing is just for the car wash and service center in Hinsdale
In the 13 months before January's bankruptcy filing, the five co-owners received nearly $1.2 million in compensation and dividends from the Hinsdale business
co-owners Doug Fuller and Susan Groenwold each received $51,402 on Dec
less than a month before the bankruptcy filing
This money was outside their regular payment cycle
In the two twice-a-month cycles before the filing
the same co-owners increased their regular compensation to $8,950
Fuller's is represented by attorney David Welch of Chicago's Burke
He did not return messages for comment this week
The car wash and service center are across from each other on Chicago Avenue in downtown Hinsdale
On July 17, 2023, Sean Patrick Richards, a Hinsdale 14-year-old, was walking on the sidewalk in front of Fuller's on Chicago Avenue when an employee driving a car hit him, crossed the street and crashed into Fontano's restaurant
In an interview in January, the boy's father, Brian Richards, said the bankruptcy filing postponed everything in the lawsuit that he and his wife, Kristine Richards
filed against Fuller's and the then-employee who struck his son
He said the 16-year-old employee's deposition was set for two days after the bankruptcy filing
while Doug Fuller and Susan Groenewold were to be deposed the following week
we both sat and answered all of the Fullers' lawyer’s questions under oath
but they are not willing to do the same," Brian Richards said in a statement at the time
"Why are they so afraid to tell the truth?"
Here is information on the cars in Fuller's debt list and the amount of debt for each (book cost in parentheses):

it could become more difficult to add sidewalks in Hinsdale
IL – Hinsdale is considering a policy that would require unanimous neighbor backing for a sidewalk before the village builds it
the sidewalk doesn't get approved," Trustee Neale Byrnes said at Tuesday's Village Board meeting
He noted that sidewalks can be controversial in town
with residents expressing concerns over the impacts on trees and other landscaping along streets
In recent years, battles over sidewalks in Elmhurst and Western Springs have divided neighbors
Hinsdale officials said they were looking to replace sidewalk policies from 2002 and 2010
Hinsdale may pay for all or half of a sidewalk project
depending on the village's master plan map
The memo said the village does not intend to mandate sidewalks and that new sidewalks should be considered incrementally with a "flexible and balanced approach."
Hinsdale appears to differ from Elmhurst's approach to sidewalks
In February, the Elmhurst City Council enacted a 40-year plan for adding sidewalks along every street in town
neighbor support is not a factor in the city's decision
Under another Elmhurst policy, a neighborhood can get sidewalks ahead of the city's timeline by covering a quarter of the cost
Such a project would require a simple majority of neighbors' backing
the threshold for neighbor support was 60 percent

But Superintendent Michael Lach expressed a "bunch of misgivings." (David Giuliani/Patch)DARIEN
IL – The superintendent for Hinsdale High School District 86 last week expressed "misgivings" about giving an exception to marching band students
Recently, students and parents blamed a drop in marching band participation on a 2021 decision to bar band students from using the gym class exemption for a full year
band students are allowed to use the exception during football season
This means they don't have to take a physical education class during that time
Other sports can also get out of taking gym during their seasons
Some school board members seem open to allowing the exemption for a semester or a full year
the matter came to a head as the district considered making Grace Adduci
Hinsdale Central's assistant director of bands
That is attributed to falling participation
member Jeff Waters asked why the district was not considering extending the exception to a full year
Superintendent Michael Lach voiced a "bunch of misgivings" with a semester or a full year
"I worry about treating marching band as a semester when we treat other sports just as a season," he said
He also said he feared making school all about putting points on a transcript and tallying up courses
particularly given mental health challenges
He said students can pick up a variety of athletic activities that would allow them to be physically active for their entire lives
Lack also said gym classes are a good place for students from different backgrounds to interact and play sports
"I think that's a powerful place for kids to get to know other students," he said
He said the district needed to investigate what problem it was trying to solve
Board member Heather Kartsounes supported increasing the band exemption to a semester
"It just seems a little confusing to do it for part of a semester and then have students join a gym class mid-semester after other students were in it for a little while," she said
"It just seems disruptive for a schedule."
The board is expected to take action at a later meeting

wine and mixed cocktails at its new location
Pronto's owner is Peter Burdi, who also runs Il Poggiolo and Nabuki sushi restaurant in Hinsdale
The village said it has had no issues with Burdi's liquor licenses at the two other restaurants

The single most pressing issue facing the village is public safety and this is what I intend to do about it
Public safety is at the heart of a thriving community
prevention-first approach to keeping our village safe
Every resident deserves to feel secure in their home
We can drastically reduce this by ensuring our police have the tools
and community partnerships needed to deter it before it happens
That’s why I am committed to working hand-in hand with our police
and state and county leaders to implement smart
responsible safety strategies that strengthen our community’s protection while respecting our village’s character
I bring a unique combination of hands-on experience in government
and community leadership that sets me apart
collaborated with local and state agencies
and tackled real issues that matter to residents
My focus isn’t on politics but on practical solutions
and ensuring that every decision benefits Hinsdale families and businesses
working across political lines to get things done
and ensuring transparency and accountability in every decision
I’ve led initiatives that required smart financial management
I have worked with police departments as a civilian and sworn officer
coordinated efforts across multiple levels of government
and even helped draft legislation that still has an impact today
I understand how to navigate government complexities
and bring people together to make meaningful progress
I’ll use that same dedication to ensure Hinsdale remains a safe
and well managed community for generations to come
Hinsdale’s tax structure is fair and balanced
ensuring we can fund essential services like public safety
and community programs without overburdening residents
I believe there is always room for improvement when it comes to fiscal responsibility and smart budgeting
My priority is to make sure every tax dollar is spent wisely and that we’re taking full advantage of available state
and federal funding to reduce the strain on local taxpayers
and find innovative ways to fund critical services without raising taxes
Hinsdale’s financial future depends on responsible planning and transparent budgeting
That means regularly reviewing revenue and expenses to ensure that our taxes remain fair
and residents get the most value for their money
Hinsdale’s well-maintained infrastructure is one of the main reasons our village remains such a desirable place to live
While we’ve done a solid job keeping up with roads
we must continue investing strategically in preventative maintenance to avoid bigger
proactive approach that ensures our roads stay smooth
and our public services run efficiently without unnecessary costs to taxpayers
we can enhance and modernize our infrastructure while keeping taxes fair and reasonable
and I’m committed to making sure that Hinsdale continues to thrive for generations to come
Hinsdale is incredibly fortunate to have a highly dedicated and professional police department that goes above and beyond to keep our community safe
and proactive engagement with residents make a real difference in ensuring Hinsdale remains one of the safest and most welcoming places to live
I believe in continuing to invest in our officers by providing ongoing training
Expanding the use of retired officers and community service personnel for non-emergency tasks would help ensure that our active-duty officers can focus on crime prevention and emergency response
I fully support our police force’s commitment to excellence and community trust and will work to ensure they have the resources and support needed to protect and serve all Hinsdaleans
Hinsdale’s historic charm is part of what makes our village so special
These incentives help homeowners preserve the unique character and craftsmanship of their homes while ensuring that future generations can continue to appreciate our town’s rich architectural heritage
By encouraging thoughtful restoration and responsible upkeep
maintaining the beauty of our neighborhoods
and keeping Hinsdale an attractive place for new families and businesses
Investing in our past is an investment in our future
and I fully support smart policies that help preserve the heart and soul of our community
I am opposed to any support for permitting video gambling or recreational marijuana sales in Hinsdale
Our community is built on values of family-friendliness
Introducing these types of businesses could challenge the character and social fabric that residents cherish – this is a main staple of why Hinsdale is very attractive to families
I believe that any business venture in our village should align with the vision of maintaining a secure
and I believe Hinsdale should take a thoughtful and community-driven approach to addressing this requirement
any plan must prioritize what’s best for Hinsdale residents: protecting property values
and ensuring any decisions align with long-term fiscal responsibility
transparent process that includes meaningful input from residents to ensure that any approach balances state compliance with the needs and character of our community
I believe a community's true strength lies in its openness and inclusivity
Gated communities can sometimes inadvertently contribute to social isolation and limit interaction among neighbors in adjacent areas
I support neighborhood designs that foster community engagement
and an environment where every resident feels welcome and connected
I firmly believe that transparency and the avoidance of any conflicts of interest are vital to maintaining public trust
Accepting political contributions from individuals who have matters pending before the board creates the appearance
I am fully committed to serving the entire term and dedicating my energy to the needs of Hinsdale
I take my responsibility to this community seriously
and my years of public service reflect that dedication
I would step aside if faced with truly unforeseen circumstances
My wife and I make important family decisions together
Her support was unwavering because we both believe in protecting and strengthening the community we call home
As a family with young children who will grow up in Hinsdale
my commitment to ensuring the best future for all of us has never been stronger
I am deeply committed to protecting our village's character
and prosperity so it remains a place where families thrive for generations to come
With experience in both government and the private sector
I understand the importance of transparency
This campaign is a commitment to safeguarding the future of the town my family and I cherish
work tirelessly to find fiscally responsible solutions that strengthen our community
and ensure Hinsdale continues to be a place we are all proud to call home

Hinsdale Central sophomore Luke Vatev talked about the Red Devils’ chase for a title three-peat
Hinsdale Central won the state crown in 2023 and 2024
and Vatev was confident a third straight victory was in the works
“I think it’s going to happen,” said Vatev
That’s been our goal throughout the year — we’re aiming high.”
The sophomore’s prediction proved to be right on the money
as the Red Devils won this season’s competition going away at FMC Natatorium in Westmont
Hinsdale Central triumphed with a total of 338 points
Vatev gave a big assist to the Red Devils win by taking the first place medal in the 100 free (43.57) and the 100 back (46.95)
and I think I connect quite well,” said Vatev of his win in the freestyle
“Just hold on and make sure nobody catches me.”
The sophomore gave a ton of kudos to his teammates
“It’s amazing,” said Luke about swimming on the same team with his brother
We have so many great swimmers on our side
Marmion’s runner-up finish was sparked by sophomore Brayden Capen
who placed second in the 200 individual medley
taking first place in the time of 46.52 and setting a state record in the process
“It was pretty nerve-wracking,” said McMillan

Hinsdale Central was victorious Saturday in all three relays
Bey won the 200 IM (state record 1:43.96) and the 100 breaststroke (53.32)
Chase Maier of Oswego co-op was one of the top performers of the meet
He won the 200 free (1:35.91) and the 500 free (4:19.36)
“He means everything to the program,” said Oswego coach Erik Enslen of Maier
said that he had to “come back a little faster” today after finishing seventh in the 200 free in Friday’s preliminaries
“Nice to come back as a senior and get the win,” he said
Maier added that possibly his favorite memory of his four-year career in the Oswego program was his school-best performance in the 100 fly during the 2025 season
“I’m not really a butterflyer,” said the senior
“but I wanted to go out there and set the record and I got it.”

the state’s best male swimmers warm things up at the Illinois High School State Championship meet
In the first event of the prelims on Friday
the boys from Hinsdale Central High School swam a new National High School Record in the 200 medley relay
The team of sophomore Luke Vatev, senior Josh Bey, senior Henry Guo
and junior Matthew Vatev combined for a 1:26.75
That shaved .13 seconds off the old national public high school record in the event
The youngest member of Hinssdale’s relay, sophomore Luke Vatev, was the hero leg, opening up the race three-tenths better than the record line. He handed it off to US Junior National Teamer Josh Bey
before Guo and Vatev wrapped it up on the back half
which scored the top five spots at the Big Ten Championships on Friday evening in Minneapolis
The back-half of the relay Guo and Matt Vatev are both committed to swim at Penn in fall 2025 and fall 2026
Hinsdale Central took control of the meet with the top seed in all three relays
and Frankie Adamo combined for a 1:21.82 in the 200 free relay
The sophomore Luke Vatev swam 43.50 in the 100 free and 46.52 in the 100 back
which even at 15-years old rank him 16th and 7th all-time in the 15-16 age group
His previous best times were 43.93 in the 100 free and 46.87 in the 100 back
His older brother Matthew Vatev led the field in the 100 breaststroke (53.85) and was 3rd in the 200 IM behind Bey
Thaat 100 breast time took .66 seconds off his previous best from Winter Juniors just three months ago
Guo was the top qualifier in the 100 fly in 47.15
Other top prelims performers included Biko Hooper Haviland from St

and 4:23 (in December at Winter Juniors) in the three seasons since
New Trier’s Stuart Timmerman leads a tight 50 free field that saw the top 8 spread by only .38 seconds

Illinois swimming is far underrated and underreported…… Lea Hayes
Biko Hooper-Haviland is an underrated story as well
Not at the level of those four or Luke Vatev
but his improvement curve is something special
He didn’t break 5:00 in the 500 till his sophomore year
Really excited to see what he can post in finals
went 1:37.7 unrested at sectionals last weekend then 1:37.0 in prelims here (1:39 in prelims last year IIRC)
I remember beating him in the 500 at an invite 2 years ago
but then getting lapped at sectionals last year
IHSA swimming is in a renaissance right now and the younger guys are showing the future of how high school swimming will look from a very depth driven state like IL
That’s true – Brayden Capen’s gonna be interesting to watch as a sophomore
as well as freshmen like Leo Zhang who made NCHS’ alternates
however a handful of events (2/5 free) had very
Will have to watch the trajectory on that the next few years
Yeah….would’ve been a show-stopper on his own if it weren’t for the rleay
THAT RECORD WAS NEVER AN “IF” RED DEVILS ON TOP!
I’m guessing this was your guys goal this season
Found someone who doesn’t enjoy losing to Hinsdale
They still have Luke’s brother Matt breaststroke as well as an up and coming flier
HC is winning this meet by a lot but the race for 2nd is gonna be interesting
