Garnett Hollis Jr. is a long and physical cornerback from West Virginia, boasting a 6'0", 203-pound frame that provides the ideal size to contend with bigger receivers and tight ends at the NFL level. A former Northwestern transfer, Hollis uses his length and physicality effectively but is limited by movement inefficiencies that impact his ability to consistently cover faster and more agile receivers.
Hollis thrives when he can leverage his length and physicality
He does a good job of timing his disruptions and remaining calm with his back to the ball
his high pad level and slower change-of-direction skills hinder his ability to stick with receivers on shorter routes
and his limited top-end speed leaves him vulnerable to separation on deeper routes
Hollis flashes solid footwork and the ability to sink his hips for transitions
leading to late reactions to threats in his area
Hollis lacks natural ball-hawking instincts and has not shown a tendency to generate turnovers
Hollis is an aggressive and physical presence in the run game
His size and strength allow him to take on blocks effectively
and he holds his ground well against bigger opponents on the edge
While his block destruction skills are above average
This is often due to his limited movement skills
which make it difficult for him to adjust quickly to ball-carriers
Hollis' aggression sometimes leads to missed tackles as he over-commits or comes in too high
projects as a developmental prospect who will likely find his role as a physical outside cornerback in zone-heavy schemes
and aggression make him an asset against bigger-bodied receivers and in run support
but his movement limitations and inconsistent tackling could cap his ceiling as a backup or rotational player
Hollis will need to refine his technique and improve his consistency to carve out a role at the next level
— Very good length and size with filled out thicker frame
Uses his size and physicality to his advantage when taking on blocks and holds up well against bigger receivers and tight ends
— Aggressive when contesting through the catch point
Shows good timing and the ability to stay calm with his back to the ball
— Flashes very good footwork and the ability to sink his hips to transition
— Lacks the desired movement skills to be an elite cornerback
— Doesn't show ball hawking tendencies
Inconsistent eye discipline in zone coverage

Jeremy Hollis, a graduate research assistant in the Campbell Lab at Fred Hutch Cancer Center, is one of 10 graduate students across the world who has received the 2025 Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award
His research examines a historic protein component implicated in a variety of diseases and disorders and will provide a foundational understanding of cellular evolution
The award is named for Harold “Hal” Weintraub, MD, PhD, a molecular biologist who helped found Fred Hutch’s Basic Sciences Division and immensely contributed to the understanding of embryonic development in vertebrates
Weintraub died of brain cancer in 1995 at age 49
and the namesake award honors his scientific leadership and legacy as an extraordinary mentor
Now in its 26th year, the Weintraub Award has celebrated the exceptional achievements of graduate students in biological science since 2000
Take a look back at half a century of leading-edge research and compassionate care
Though the award has its roots at Fred Hutch, it selects winners from an increasingly competitive international pool of applicants each year. Hollis is the first Fred Hutch winner in four years. Emma Wrenn, then a graduate student in the Cheung Lab, received the award in 2021
the award represents Weintraub’s legacy both literally and metaphorically
“The physical lab I work in, now the Campbell Lab, is in Hal Weintraub's old lab space,” he said, adding that his team still uses Weintraub’s monogrammed serological pipettes. They also continue a special tradition of recreating a photo of Weintraub at work
Melody Campbell, PhD
praised his “strong determination and boundless optimism.”
“It's really an unbelieveable honor to be identified by my colleagues and mentors at my own institution as worthy of this award,” said Hollis
Part of the Campbell lab’s research focuses on proteins
“You can think of them like Legos,” Hollis added
His research centers on the domain “I” (or “inserted”)
a 500-million-year-old domain found in the integrin family of cell receptor proteins
This protein domain provides critical functions and has links to cancer
irritable bowel diseases and immune deficiencies
These impacts make it an attractive therapeutic target
The endgame of his research will develop specified treatments and a fundamental understanding of protein evolution
Campbell called attention to his role in assembling the project entirely himself
“He orchestrated the collaboration between my lab and [Dr
The Malik Lab studies genetic conflicts between opposing genes and proteins that drive evolutionary change
Hollis’ collaboration brings together structural and evolutionary biology
which makes the outcomes of the project particularly unique and exciting
And his drive to lead and collaborate doesn’t necessarily stop in the lab
Hollis has led the lab to win every creative competition they’ve entered — from building gingerbread houses to decorating doors to designing ugly sweaters to carving pumpkins — four years in a row
“The natural world contains answers to so many questions we're asking … we just need to have the courage to find them.”

I became a Catholic—after seven years of teenage atheism—because of the lyrics of the album
“The Colour of Spring,” by the English band Talk Talk
and I don’t claim that he actually practiced what he preached
First
I should just continue grading finals—which is my main job and my primary task at the moment Third
I really just need a year’s sabbatical to write about the English band Talk Talk
The topic: Why Mark Hollis strove to be as Catholic as possible in his lyrics
After reading the frustratingly stunted and anemic biography
Ben Wardle’s Mark Hollis: A Perfect Silence—which could have been brilliant with another paragraph here or there getting into the soul of the admittedly elusive Mark Hollis—I’ve just finished reading
such as noting that Talk Talk is progressive rock
but he completely misunderstand’s Hollis’s lyrics
The religious aspect can’t go without comment
Mark has been quoted as saying that “Happiness is Easy” was about the holy wars
hence the reference to the “little ships of Galilee.” From this point on
Mark’s lyrics will be scattered with Biblical references and imagery
leading to suggestions that he was secretly religious
he denied the inference and it seems likely that the Christian imagery was simply a mechanism to convey meaning through the cultural references he grew up with
and other musical poets like Leonard Cohen
have often called upon such imagery in their work
It’s one of the great ironic/sarcastic song titles.”
My beloved Steven Wilson in his autobiography
and several histories of (progressive) rock do as well
All religious gibberish that means nothing
Most critics seem to think that Hollis’s lyrics are just balderdash
If Hollis had sung about Christianity on only a song or two
there’s a huge continuity of Christian lyrics in what he sings
He might not have lived them out in his own life
he clearly strove for something greater than himself
if someone were someday to list Talk Talk as “Christian rock,” I wouldn’t completely balk
though I would probably add something such as psychedelic and non-practicing Christian aspirational rock
but let me admit again: Talk Talk’s lyrics to The Colour of Spring significantly affected me
And I became a Catholic—after seven years of teenage atheism—because of those lyrics
I had been in love with The Colour of Spring since the spring of 1986
but it wasn’t until the spring of 1988 that
I finally read the lyrics (the lyrics weren’t printed in the U.S
I could never recount the emotion that overcame me as I read:
but I read those words as intensely personal
“gather us in love.” How dense do you have to be not to realize that Hollis means this
There’s nothing cynical at all in the song—only a proper acknowledgement of love
“kissing a grey garden” seems like a reference to purgatory
arguably the finest statement of progressive pop ever written
“The Rainbow,” itself divided into three parts
take over the world and rule through your might power
the real meaning of 1988’s Spirit of Eden comes in the final song “wealth.”
Hollis’s version is a re-telling of Ignatius’s
we get to Talk Talk 1991 masterpiece album
With innumerable references to Christ and the gospels
it’s no longer even plausibly Anglican/Church of England (with its two sacraments
It’s either Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox
we’re way out of the realm of “playing” religion here
How could we not believe that Hollis is serious about the faith

I have those three Talk Talk CDs not far from where I’m lying on my couch
but the sparseness of it all gives it a singular beauty
I think the lyrics continue the continuity from TT
I find it strange that the albums you loved from age twelve to age sixteen haunt you later in life
but only if the music contained something eternal and wasn’t merely pop
But mostly the first two Scott Merritt albums
I never was into Kershaw (out of ignorance)
and Howard Jones (especially Human’s Lib) all meant (and mean) a great deal to me
Will check out the first two Scott Merritt albums
I should have said Scott Merritt’s third and fourth albums: Gravity Is Mutual and Violet and Black
I’ve neither seen nor heard his first two albums
I had the opportunity to read another article from you on this topic some years ago on progarchy.com and I really appreciated it
Best wishes for a Saint Christmas and greetings from an Italian reader
I think Hollis is one of the most interesting intellectuals/artists of the past 100 years
Glad to know that Italy still loves Christmas
I prayed for Mark’s soul a long time ago
all based on a perception after listening to his most famous songs that did not seem Christian at all
I listened to the radio and his songs appeared very insistent and they induced me to pray for his soul “feeling” that he was in need
But I wanted to know if I was praying or not
for a Christian… and if possible a Catholic
Your post appeared in my search engine and with great joy both things were confirmed
Talk Talk is the only band allowed to use muted trumpets
the next book about Mark Hollis’ music will be by you
they seem to exploit Hollis’ life by stripping away his privacy
might just be the tribute so richly deserved and these days – needed
An amazing and all-too-brief glimpse into Hollis’s lyrics and artistic intentions
and website in this browser for the next time I comment

and it's about to be a new era in Michigan State athletics
Alan Haller, a longtime university administrator and former MSU football player, was let go as athletic director, it was announced Thursday. A national search is underway to find his replacement
The last five Michigan State athletic directors were promoted from other roles in the athletic department or at the university: Clarence Underwood
Here's a look at some possible candidates Michigan State could consider for its third athletic director in the last seven years after possibly looking outside of its current athletics buildings for the first time in 25 years
Michael AlfordAlford has strong ties to the booster side of the business ― a side of the business that's becoming more and more pivotal by the day
Alford was athletic director at Central Michigan before leaving to become head of Seminole Boosters
he was promoted to athletic director at Florida State
and secured a new revenue-distribution model
A national search might lead MSU right down to the ride to Kalamazoo
where Bartholomae is athletic director at Western Michigan
He's got a strong track record of nearly quadrupling WMU's fundraising efforts since he arrived less than four years ago
and he's got a bit of visibility with the Broncos coming off their first-ever national championship in hockey
Bartholomae has a couple other things going for him: He's a Pittsburgh native
and he's got a good relationship with football coach Jonathan Smith from their time at Oregon State
The Flint native is the athletic director at North Carolina
and who would blame him if he's ready to get out of there amid all the drama over new football coach Bill Belichick (and his girlfriend
He's reportedly been looking for other options
after more than a decade running things in Chapel Hill ― where
he did secure a massive boost in NIL dollars flowing into the UNC coffers
where he was twice honored as an athletics director of the year by the NACDA
There are no direct ties to the state or the university here
but Greene was a finalist for the job four years ago when he was athletic director at Auburn
where he's trying to undo the financial damage left under the administration of former AD Heather Lyke
Lyke is a Michigan alum and former Eastern Michigan AD who talked to MSU last time around
but it's unclear if she would get a call this time
a former Notre Dame and minor-league baseball player
was athletic director at Buffalo before landing the Auburn job
Mark HollisDon't be surprised if this is a name that generates buzz from MSU fans
was Michigan State's athletic director for more than a decade
until he resigned in the wake of the Larry Nassar scandal and subsequent sentencing
The MSU alum was one of the great forward-thinkers in college athletics (outdoor hockey
Hollis has worked on the PGA Tour's Rocket Classic since leaving MSU
teaming up with pal and major MSU donor Dan Gilbert
Here's another candidate who was in the mix for the job four years
but he opted to stay as athletic director at UCLA
starting his administrative career in East Lansing as an assistant AD from 2003-09
before moving on to the Ohio State athletic department
becoming the youngest AD among the power-conference schools
having played basketball at UNC-Wilmington
Jeff KonyaIn this era of college athletics
folks often talk about looking for so-called "innovators," forward-thinkers not content to just do things the way they've always been done
gets that description a lot when you talk to his colleagues
he has doubled fundraising efforts since his arrival in 2021
He's a two-time winner of the Under Armour NACDA athletics director of the year award
Mississippi State's athletic director made the Sports Business Journal's prestigious "Forty Under 40" list two years ago
He's been AD at Mississippi State since 2023
worked in athletic departments at Oklahoma and North Carolina
and in the first months on the job at Mississippi State
and raised money for significant multiple facility upgrades
Selmon played tight end in college at Wake Forest
Hunter YurachekHe's the current athletic director at Arkansas
where last spring he pulled of a stunning move in bringing in Hall-of-Fame basketball coach John Calipari
He's also worked in athletic departments at Wake Forest
He played basketball as an undergrad at Guilford College in North Carolina
Tom Izzo and Jen SmithHere are the interim co-ADs
Nobody would be surprised if Izzo was interested in the job
He once floated his name for football coach

With the 2025 NFL Draft in the rearview mirror and undrafted free agent signings all but done, the focus for the Pittsburgh Steelers has shifted to rookie minicamp invites. After reports of South Carolina linebacker Debo Williams and Rhode Island TE/WR Tommy Smith receiving invites
That would be William & Mary standout receiver Hollis Mathis
who is a Pittsburgh-area native as a Penn Hills High School graduate
Mathis’ invite to Steelers’ rookie minicamp was shared by his agency, LA Sports Group (@LASportsGroup) on Instagram.
Mathis is a versatile athlete who played quarterback
running back and receiver at William & Mary
He made the switch to receiver full time for the 2024 season and put up a strong season
hauling in 52 passes for 602 yards and three touchdowns
Hollis Mathis measures in at 6013, 174 pounds with 9 3/8-inch hands, 32 3/4-inch arms, a 77 1/8-inch wingspan and clocked a 4.59 40-yard dash with a 1.59 10-yard split. He also recorded a 36.5-inch vertical, a 10’10” broad jump, a 4.43 short shuttle and a 6.90 3-cone, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler.
He finished his college career with 87 receptions for 1,005 yards and five touchdowns
Mathis also recorded 260 carries for 1,091 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns and 1,716 passing yards
10 touchdowns and four interceptions on 126-of-251 passing
though most of that came in 2019 when he threw for 976 yards
Mathis is just one of two players in college football history to achieve that mark
Penn Hills alum Hollis Mathis has made HISTORY at the D1 level at William and Mary
He is the 2nd player in CFB History to throw for 1,000 yards
A WPIAL round of applause for Hollis 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/0fj7IKObZp

Mathis was a full-time QB at Penn Hill High School
lining up in the backfield as a traditional running back
He never thought of transferring to a bigger program
sticking it out at William & Mary and graduating with a degree in kinesiology and health sciences in 2023

Sterlin English and Hollis Harris showed that “quirky” horses can still cash big checks, winning the #13.5 Succeed Shootout at the Cinch USTRC National Finals of Team Roping in Fort Worth, Texas, worth $55,000.
The horsepower was English’s hard‑running gelding “Keystone” and Harris’ grumpy palomino “Sunshine.” The team roped four steers in 28.35 seconds, winning from the second‑high call position.
“We won the most tricked‑out saddles I’ve seen in a while, so I’m excited,” said Harris, 59, of Stephenville, Texas. “To have a chance to win ropings like this keeps you going. The USTRC is the best thing for kids—and it’s the best money.”
Their day began in the John Justin Arena with a 7.33‑second opener.
“On the first run I’m thinking, ‘Get the horns and get out of the way,’” said English, 22. “Hollis is a rodeo guy—if you bend their head, he’s going to put it down.”

Harris cleaned up every heel shot English gave him
“I took a bit of a risky shot,” Harris said
That sorrel horse of his can really open the steers up.”
but the gelding anchoring the run was palomino Sunshine
Originally a horse Harris got in for training
it became apparent Sunshine was so unfriendly that nobody would want to buy him
The pair are still building their camaraderie together
but Harris’ confidence in him is growing with every check
Their fastest trip—6.03 seconds in Round 3—propelled them to a short go that paid more than $250,000
“I blacked out during the short go,” said Harris
I didn’t even hear what time we had to be—just
but once he was “looking down the pipe,” it was game on
but you just have to stay focused and do your job,” Harris said
“Some people rope only for first; I just try to rope the steer as well as I can
English spun the black Corriente—and it took a big hop as Harris threw his loop
ensuring that Keystone finished the job for him
The victory is English’s second major Shootout title
He won the #11.5 Shootout nearly a decade ago
“That was probably the best win of my life,” English said
“I like watching Dad win more than I like to win myself.”

Library’s Interior to be Transformed with New Reading and Multi-Purpose Rooms
Administration Has Invested More Than $300 Million in City’s Libraries in Three Fiscal Years; Nearly $900 Million Committed in FY 2025 – FY 2028 Capital Plan
NEW YORK – New York City Mayor Eric Adams
Queens Public Library (QPL) President Dennis M
and New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) Commissioner Thomas Foley today broke ground on a $7.4 million project that will completely modernize the interior of the Hollis Library QPL branch with new reading rooms
and additional features for visitors and staff
Mayor Adams also celebrated three years of significant investments in the city’s libraries
with total investment in the city’s libraries approaching $900 million in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 to FY 2028 capital plan
“I am proud to be here to break ground on this major renovation of the Hollis Library
a $7 million project that will improve the library experience for this entire community,” said Mayor Adams
“New York City’s libraries are so much more than just a place to check out a book
our public libraries are the hearts of our communities
That is why our administration has invested more than $300 million in the city’s libraries over three fiscal years
with nearly $900 million committed in the 2025-2028 Capital Plan.”
“Our administration is focused on providing world-class libraries citywide
ensuring no neighborhood is left behind,” said First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer
“The renovations to the Hollis Library will provide the neighborhood with the state-of-the-art features that New Yorkers deserve
This is just one great example of how our library systems
are providing New Yorkers with access to knowledge and resources.”
“As we break ground on the major renovation of Hollis Library
we are reminded of all the ways that New Yorkers use their libraries in the internet age — not just for quiet study but for play
and so much more,” said Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi. “Our hardworking team at DDC is up to the task of delivering public spaces that meet the diverse needs of New Yorkers
which the governor has on her desk to sign into law
will help us renovate our aging civic buildings like libraries more quickly and affordably.”
“This DDC in-house design will completely overhaul the current interior into an environmentally-efficient
and spacious library with more natural lighting
and ADA-compliant restrooms,” said DDC Commissioner Foley
we hope we can use a faster method of construction management for library renovation projects called CM-Build
which provides a lot more flexibility for dealing with issues that arise in the field after we start work
we’ll be able to complete projects like these even faster and more efficiently.”
“The upcoming transformation of Hollis Library represents our commitment to providing modern
inviting spaces that inspire people to learn
and Councilmember Linda Lee for their substantial investment and for their constant support of our libraries.”
Renderings of the Hollis Library Renovations
Improvements to the Hollis Library QPL branch
funded in part by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and New York City Councilmember Linda Lee
The library’s entrance will be upgraded with a new reception area
and the façade will include large perimeter windows for extra lighting
The renovation will create three reading rooms — a main reading room with an area for teenagers
and a multi-purpose room with a visual and audio system
The design also allows for more computer space
Wireless internet will also be available throughout the building
The interior renovation will follow the latest ADA-accessible standards
The project will also replace and upgrade all building mechanical systems
the library’s interior and exterior lighting and mechanical systems will be made compliant with the New York City Energy Conservation Code
it is expected that the 1973-built library will be certified as LEED Silver for efficiency
The project is expected to be completed in spring 2026
The project replaced the library’s roof and heating
the administration has added more than $300 million in investments to the city’s three library systems
bringing the total commitment in the FY25 to FY28 capital plans to nearly $900 million
“Hollis families deserve a spectacular
state-of-the-art library to call their own
and that’s exactly what we’re working to deliver
starting with today’s groundbreaking,” said Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr
“I'm so proud to have allocated $1 million to this vitally important project
which will make a world of difference for this community
and to have put more than $26 million into the Queens Public Library system as a whole since taking office
Our libraries are the lifeblood of our neighborhoods
and it’s critical that we ensure every single branch sees the investment it needs to best serve our families.”
“Libraries are essential hubs that provide students
and receive supportive services they need to be successful,” said New York City Councilmember Linda Lee
“I am proud to join my colleagues in fully renovating and modernizing the Hollis Public Library for our community
Residents deserve to feel a sense of pride living in their neighborhood
and this investment to upgrade our community library will serve as another reason to be happy to call Hollis home.”
“The iconic Queens Public Library system is one of the biggest and busiest in the world
its branches are hubs of community activity where job seekers receive career guidance
I am proud that we reached a fiscally responsible FY 2025 to FY 2028 capital plan that invests almost a billion dollars in our libraries
opening the door to the renovation of the Hollis Library branch,” said New York State Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar
and furnishings to preserve the Hollis library as a neighborhood institution
we will make these investments so that New Yorkers have the world class libraries they deserve.”
“The Queens Public Library at Hollis is a fantastic neighborhood resource
and I’m pleased to see local branch renovations and reopening across Queens,” said New York State Assemblymember David I
“The improvements to QPL Hollis will boost services for children
As the former chair of the Assembly Task Force for People with Disabilities
ADA compliance is very important to me and I’m glad that these critical infrastructure upgrades are being made to ensure accessibility for all at QPL Hollis
This effort will not only enhance the library’s functionality and accessibility but also provide a vibrant
welcoming space for the community to gather
I look forward to celebrating the completion of these comprehensive renovations soon.”
provide workforce development opportunities
and enrich our everyday lives as New Yorkers,” said New York City Councilmember Carlina Rivera
“The investment to modernize the Hollis Library QPL branch will benefit thousands of residents at a time we see library usage rising
helping connect New Yorkers to vital services and programs.”
“We’re thrilled to have the long-awaited renovations to the Hollis Library QPL Branch,” said Martha Taylor
“Community Board 8 has advocated for the improvement of the library
We know that former board member Marc Haken
These improvements will create a more modern
accessible space that reflects the spirit and resilience of our community
providing a welcoming environment for learning

it’s tempting to look outside ourselves for answers
We distract ourselves with any number of vices
But what if the clarity and comfort we’re craving is within us
That’s the question at the heart of Living With Borrowed Dust
Hollis invites us to explore what it means to be human in all its messiness: to grieve
his hope is that these essays serve as “a companion
and a reminder that we carry within what we are so anxiously looking for in the crazed world out there.”
and how all of us can begin a dialogue with our own souls to live less reflexively and more thoughtfully and authentically
you offer tools we can use to have deep conversations with our souls
we learn that our dreams are coming from some part of our psyche that knows us better than we know ourselves
we have to adjust to the powers and principalities of the world outside of us
we lose contact with those inner sources telling us what is right and wrong for us
we defer to the authority of parents and to the various systems we have to report to in the outer world
I wrote this book to help us find and access the insights that our own nature has already begun telling us about how to conduct our lives
we have to find the courage—or sometimes the desperation—to try to live that in the world
A theme in your book is understanding our inner callings and using them as inspiration for personal growth
we ask large questions—questions that are essential
What is it that my own inner life tells me is right for me
and I did all the things I was supposed to do—create relationship
Why has my own psyche withdrawn its approval and support from all the things I’m doing
Because I’m doing what I was supposed to do
That’s what sent me to my first hour of therapy.
there was a lot of unfinished business from childhood
there were some large decisions that I needed to address in the outer world
which is what ultimately sent me from life as an academic to training as an analytic psychologist.
You say you were “blessed” with depression at midlife
because depression was robbing me of my energy
But it was also calling into account how I was conducting my life
how quickly do we get rid of a person’s symptoms
and how might I respond to this in a proactive way
and we don’t have the capacity to live our own journeys
A child can’t pack a suitcase and move out of town
I had lived the model in the outer world of professional and social development
But I wasn’t yet living out of what was most profoundly true for me
a lot of what I was living was a defense against that
one of the most important things I learned in several years of analysis was that what you become—namely a series of adaptations and deals we make with the outer world—is now your chief problem
What is this trying to call our attention to
Most of us never spend any quiet time in the course of any given day to reflect on what our choices are about
If we don’t have regular appointments with ourselves
we’re going to be living mostly reflexively by the condition patterns
counterproductive things I’ve done for decades
What is really wanting expression in the world through me
It doesn’t diminish the quality of our relationships with others
it can improve our relationships for the simple fact that we’re a more evolved and more authentic person than a person who’s simply been well-conditioned to fit in and adapt to the conditions of life
It sounds like this work makes us more trustworthy in relation to others
because it means you’re living with integrity as opposed to what history imposed upon you and the various adaptations that you had to make as a child or as a young adult
It means you live less reflexively and more thoughtfully
because it does often mean leaving our comfort zone
It means moving in the direction of more authenticity
And what that really means is that I must recognize I have unfinished business
parts of ourselves we would prefer not to have the world know about or that we don’t even want to look at ourselves
But under no circumstance do these parts disappear
They continue to infiltrate our relationships
The best thing I can do is present to the people around me who I really am
It’s about accountability for the integrity of one’s own soul
You say that there’s “another other” inside of each of us that knows us better than we know ourselves
Why is it important to listen to that other
Most people—and I say this without criticism
I say it with sympathy—lead lives that are on automatic pilot
and try to get their needs met as best they can
But what if this way of being conflicts with something that is wishing expression through you in this world
You have to seize hold a permission to ask those questions
you learned that was not particularly safe
But these questions lead to a certain humility
You’ll likely find yourself living in service to something that is very deep within you
There is a question at the end of our journey: Did I live my journey
most people live lives responding to whatever the pressures are in their environment
it widens a deepening gap within each of us
For those who’d like to live thoughtfully and consciously rather than reflexively but don’t know where to start
What is it that has always fired my imagination
What is the talent or interest that I’ve always set aside because I didn’t have time
The more honestly you address these questions
the more your psyche will start giving you some responses over time
Jungian analytic psychology is really about addressing what is most meaningful in your life
More people suffer pathologies of one kind or another because they’re disconnected from a meaningful journey
And what often evolves from that disconnection is their own treatment plan
investment in popular culture with all of its distractions
one has to ask: What is it your life needs to be in service to
the answer will involve serving the commitments we have to our relationships and to our work
if you’re not serving something very deep within you
you’re going to be serving something that ultimately is trivial or about someone else’s life
Life in America feels very heavy to many of us right now
Would you say this is an especially good time to go inward and listen to our deep wisdom
Apart from whatever you can do as a citizen to express your point of view
you have to realize that who you are is most defined by your values
children depend on you continuing to serve your values in difficult times
The world depends on parents being parents
continue to do what you do as a calling—not just as a job or duty
But also realize that whenever your own values are at stake
it’s time for you to show up in the way that makes sense to you

CANTON − As some of America's best-known sports ambassadors, the Harlem Globetrotters have thrilled fans around the world with their wizardry and jaw-dropping skills on the basketball court
The storied team will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026. For more than 60 of those years, the Globetrotters have played — and won — nearly 17,000 exhibition games against their main rivals, the Washington Generals.
the Globetrotters' most famous foils have a Canton connection in Hollis "Scamp" Alexander II
The 2013 McKinley High School graduate and former teacher just signed on with the Globetrotters as a member of the Washington Generals' West Coast touring team
the Harlem Globetrotters have been a big thing for almost 100 years now
it was a very exciting into humbling experience."
Alexander saw the Globetrotters perform in Canton as a child
the Washington Generals have played about 17,000 games against the Globetrotters
Prior to joining the tour, Alexander, a three-year starting point guard for McKinley's team
and was an assistant coach with the Lady Pups
McKinley's girls basketball team under head coach Ryan Grazier
Alexander said he was still coaching when he got the call
"Hollis 'Scamp' Alexander has always represented McKinley High School well," said Principal Sean M
he has exemplified our core values of excellence
This newest experience with the Harlem Globetrotters will give Hollis the opportunity to continue to represent the McKinley community well
We are very proud of him and all of his accomplishments

"I was so excited and so happy for him," she said
things don't go the way you like them to go
'What's for you is for you.' He played at the collegiate level
this is not really going to happen for me.'
"But I feel like God has a sense of humor and showed him because it wasn't a situation where he was just trying to get back in basketball
Make no mistake, it takes skill to be a Washington General. The roster includes professional and college-level players. Prior to playing in Leone, France, the 5-foot-8 Alexander played for Salem University in West Virginia
Playing for the Generals requires the same skills as the traditional game
but the difference is in learning when I can
said his overseas experience has helped him to deal with the amount of travel involved with the Globetrotters
The two teams will play 80 to 100 games this season
Alexander said one of the best experiences has been playing in some of the same venues that host NBA games
"We played in the Moda Center (Portland Trailblazers) where C.J
Holisha Alexander said her parents recently saw her brother play in Alabama
and that the extended family is planning a trip to Las Vegas soon to see him play and to celebrate his 30th birthday
The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to the Canton Memorial Civic Center later this month
but Alexander won't be part of that visit because of being assigned to the West Coast
